Hi! We seem to have gotten off on the wrong foot. While I’m by no means an expert on German culture either today or historically, I’ve studied fairy tales both in academic and independent contexts for many years and am very familiar with the long and widespread history of certain tale types within the indo-European language group.
If you haven’t read it you might be interested in da Silva and Tehrani’s 2016 paper on phylogenetic analysis of tale types to determine their age! I’m happy to send you a link since it sounds like you are also someone who enjoys this kind of thing.
That was my error to assume you were coming from a place of pop-history without checkingI have a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to some of the more common “myths” around fairy tales and their evolution.
My studies with fairy tales are more comparative than culturally/linguistically specific. I was referring more to the developmental stage of adolescence, rather than the social construct of childhood or teenagers (which, as you pointed out, have not been universal throughout time and place).
I can see where we also may have been talking past each other regarding the specifically German elements of the stories the Grimms collected. As an American I still sometimes fall into the trap of using the Grimm’s stories as shorthand for “old-world-y ‘European’ fairy tales,” especially as they’re often presented as such in our schools with little reference to the context of the nationalist and romantic movements that motivated their collection in the first place.
I enjoy a joke about fucked up German fairy tales as much as the next nerd, but it's genuinely striking how often the source for the really fucked up stuff turns out to be "yeah, this is only in the Brothers Grimm version and doesn't appear in any extant oral tradition, and we're like 80% sure they added it themselves". To a large extent it's not German fairy tales that are fucked up, it's two specific German dudes.

The “Home Care Attendant” ™️ DCA AU
(all subject to change as i expand on this au)
Fazbear gets into some legal trouble that nearly puts them out of business, forcing them to lie low for a while and shut the plex's doors to visitors while things are sorted.
In an attempt not to lose money, Fazbear had the idea to use their daycare attendant as a ‘home care’ attendant. Considering it was already reprogrammed once to look after small children, Fazbear thought, 'Why not?' A caregiver wasn't that much farther off, right? :)
Rebranded as the "Home Care Attendant"(™️)
Takes place after Security Breach, Gregory does not mutilate the other animatronics to be able to escape the plex/stay safe until morning.
This AU uses the idea of Vanny being the one to infect Moon with a virus that makes him hostile in the night.
But as Fazbear lies low, Moon finds he’s.. in control of himself again? And it stays that way as they are reprogrammed and fitted for their new job.
Sun and Moon got to coexist with each other without fear, catch up, and grow close again in the couple of weeks it took for Fazbear to get them all sorted.
Cut to one of Cio’s (my insert/sona) online friends seeing this ad for an in-home caregiver robot, ‘for any age!’
They know their friend has been struggling lately, even though she doesn't think so.
So one day there's a knock on Cio's front door and there's a truck unloading this giant ass box???
She tries to make her friend take it back cause ‘omg wtf how expensive was this???’
Friend said too bad, the company they bought it from was adamant about no refunds, and they didn't need an in-home robot caregiver.
“If you rly don't need it, just resell it.”
Cio eventually accepts, at the end of the day, when is she ever going to be able to see a robot in person ever again, let alone own one? In this economy???
Especially as a former retail worker on unemployment, using art as a secondary income.
Has to sign a thick pamphlet of liability forms to be able to use it.
Cio skims and signs (we all hate reading terms, but girlie pls)
Comes with a concerningly thinner user guide, as if it was hastily put together or written with the bare minimum legal content needed to ‘sell’ the DCA to the public and generate extra money for Fazbear.
As well as only a singular, fine print, Fazbear branding in an inconspicuous spot on their packaging.
Shit feels sketchy but there are also no refunds/returns.
“The HCA comes fully charged and ready to help you in your day-to-day life!”
That was a damn lie.
[Mini drabble for their beginnings below]
Cio squinting at the vague ass instructions of this, intimidatingly larger than she thought, robot is sat in the middle of her living room floor.
“So I just…” squints at the pages, “Wait, why do I have to plug it in if it's supposed to be charged?? Ugh, this is feeling more and more scammy by the second..”
She looks closely at the robot again, its blank sun and moon-themed face and well-built body.
“But it is like an actual fully made robot or- whatever, so maybe not?” Shrugs as she opens the back panel and connects its cord to the extension cord she had plugged into the wall to be able to reach it.
Lights flicker but don't quite trip the breaker
“Oooo boy.. you take a lot of power. I better go unplug some stuff;;”
Comes back and looks the bot over, wondering and checking with the bare minimum instructions on how long this “fully charged” robot was going to take to turn on.
“Bro.. They shouldn't have even included these instructions if they were gonna be this vague about them-” eyes widen as she reads down, “ ‘charging can take anywhere between 5 and 15 hours???’ Ughhhh…”
Cio sighs, looking around, then looking at the bot, “You better be worth it,” she huffed, booping its flat nose.
It takes halfway into the night for Sun and Moon to be fully charged. And by that time, in the dark/very dim ‘candlelight’, it's Moon who comes out first, Sun's rays tucking in and his hat popping out.
They hadn't been turned on since Fazbear tweaked them to be what they are now. Why waste the power of a currently closed plex on charging animatronics waiting to be bought?
Moon groaned, body's joints stiff from lack of motion for who knows how long, Fazbear left them uncharged.
[[🌙: Ugh.. Sunny..? ☀️: I'm here.. are we.. 🌙: Yeah.. I think so.. Oh- huh ☀️: what?? What is it?? 🌙: I think I just met our charge. ☀️: Really?? Oh I wanna meet them too!! Do they look nice?? 🌙: That'll have to wait, they're asleep ☀️: Asleep?? Aww…]]
Moon looks down at the sleeping form on the floor in front of him. Hair tousled, cheek smeared with graphite from their sketchbook, as they breathed quietly.
Moon huffed.
They had no knowledge about the person in front of them or what they were like, but it wasn't in his programming to leave someone uncomfortable as they slept.
He unplugged himself from the extension cord and closed their panel. His metal strained as he stretched, flexing his fingers and such before gently and carefully picking up the short human, taking care not to disturb them.
In such a small home, it didn't take him long to find their bedroom. If he had a working nose it would have wrinkled at the messy state of the room.
[[🌙: it's a good thing you're aren't out right now, Sunny ☀️: what, why?? 🌙: messy.. ☀️: Mmmmm- 😣]]
Moon snickers quietly as he lays the human down in their bed, covering them with their blanket. Cio shifts a bit to get comfortable but doesn't stir beyond that.
On a full charge, Moon takes the time to poke around the home, while getting scolded by Sun about privacy and such.
And after tidying a little bit, takes a seat on the bay window in their new charge’s room, looking up at the night sky. A bit in awe, they'd never really gotten a good look at the outside, having been in the 'Plex their entire lives.
...
Unsure if I will make an actual fic about this AU, but this is the world any art of my sona and the boys will be based in!
Thank you for giving it a read! ♥
And feel free to hop into my asks with any questions you may have!

So.. uh.. an update I guess...
What's been happening is basically mother's health has greatly declined.
She seems to be experiencing dementia like symptoms which has come on very suddenly.
She's very much not herself. She's clearly seeing and hearing things. She'll have some moments of clarity but then she's gone again.
We're not sure what happened. Whether its medication related (she already has Parkinson's) or if she has an infection.
I guess either way I was kind of holding on to hope that she will come back to us. It's seeming that that's not likely.
On the one hand myself and one of my sisters were HCAs so this isn't a brand new experience for us. We're not as shocked as our other siblings. But of course it's quite different and difficult when it's your own parent.
I guess I'm just kind of grieving for her at the moment. I wish there was something that I could do to fix this. To bring her back to us. The thought that she's gone forever (even though she's physically there) is the most unimaginable pain.
So I guess I'll be back at the hospital tomorrow with my siblings and we'll have to decide what happens next.

can you do NANA hca with the girls?
Nana ~Girlfriend headcanons~
Manga/anime: Nana
Warnings: nothing
K. Nana (Hachi)
To be with Hachi you need to be a very patient person: she's very cheerful, but also naive and a little childish, and after all the disappointments in love and the difficult relationships she's suffered, she needs a patient and balanced person, who helps her to love herself and who "guides" her towards a healthy relationship
You and Hachi almost never argue: you both don't want to hurt each other by yelling at each other or saying the wrong things in the heat of anger. Nevertheless, if there were arguments, they'll never be particularly serious, they'll be at most small squabbles, the kind that last less than a day and that you quickly forget about
Your and Hachi's dates are all kinds of things: you two do all kinds of imaginative activities together! For instance, some of them are the classic ones, like going shopping together or for walks; sometimes, instead, she suggests some less conventional dates, such as watching BLAST rehearsals together
I think Hachi's first love languages are physical touch and gifts: as for the first, she's a very affectionate person by nature, so she spends a lot of time touching, hugging or cuddling you. Indeed, very often her friends tease her because she's always clinging to you. Regarding the second, she brings you lots of trinkets she sees in shops or stalls while walking around Tokyo, and sometimes she has no more money because she spends too much on you...
Hachi calls you with every imaginative, original and strange name possible: sometimes she calls you with the names of typical Japanese sweets, like "mochi" (sometimes even "my mochi"), other times she nicknames you like some characters from movies or TV series or manga or anime she likes, other times again your nicknames are related to fruit, for example "little strawberry". However, she only uses them when you're alone or with trusted people: when you two are in public places or with unknown people, she uses slightly more sober and classic nicknames ("love", "darling"...)
O. Nana
Nana needs someone who can stand up to her and she can also depend on: she's very independent, she considers herself totally alone and thinks she doesn't need anyone, so she's used to doing everything on her own, which is why you've to make sure she trusts you enough to ask you for help
Nana never publicly dedicates a song to you, as she doesn't want neither to be known you two are dating nor to be embarrassed by dedicating something to you. Once, the other BLAST's members pointed it out to her, but she replied there was no need for her to dedicate something to you, since you knew (actually you found out that day) any song she sang would automatically be dedicated to you
One of Nana's favorite dates with you is cooking together: she knows it's banal and cliché, but she really likes doing it, especially because she can see you at work. In fact, many times she watches you while leaning against the kitchen door jamb, although there are days when she really gives you a hand, even if you always have to make sure she doesn't put a kilo of salt in the food... She also likes more classic dates, like walking through the streets or parks of Tokyo; furthermore, she'll appreciate if you come to see her sing at BLAST concerts or rehearsals
If I had to choose Nana's first love language, I would indicate acts of service: if you ask her for help or to do something for you, even if she's tired and in pieces after a tiring day spent between rehearsals and work, even if she's in your bed and about to fall asleep, even if she complains and doesn't want, she does it anyway. Sometimes her actions are silent, and she makes sure not to hold them against you
In public, Nana calls you strictly by your name: she absolutely doesn't want to show too much affection for you in front of people she doesn't know. If you're in the company of your friends, though, her nicknames become a little more affectionate, but they still remain quite classic: they generally vary between "darling", "love" and "dear". Instead, when you two are alone, she calls you with sweeter nicknames, such as "my little one" or "honey"
S. Reira
Being a woman who's at times naive and childish, Reira probably wouldn't feel particularly comfortable with someone too serious, who would limit her and make her feel almost wrong; in my opinion, she would need someone who's either like her or almost the opposite, so a person who knows how to balance her naivety and childishness, which in too abundant a way could make her suffer
Reira always dies of embarrassment at any compliment you give her: do you tell her she's beautiful? Her face will make a tomato jealous. Do you compliment her hair or her eyes? She'll melt in your arms like butter warmed by the heat. Do you say she has a wonderful voice and her lyrics for her band's songs are fantastic? She might faint from emotion and embarrassment...
Reira doesn't have a favorite activity or date with you: she's fine with whatever you like, whether it's something classic, like a walk in the park, going to the amusement park or a date at home, or a more adventurous activity, for instance going to the zoo or taking a trip to another city or country; she'll even agree to let you watch her band rehearsals if you want
I think Reira's first love languages are quality time and gifts: not having much time, she dedicates all her free moments to you, doing all the activities you want; sometimes she also runs away from Trapnest rehearsals to be with you and then gets a huge scolding from Takumi. In addition, she often spoils you a lot, buying you everything you look at for more than five seconds ("Reira, and this?" "You looked at this necklace for ten seconds in the jewelry!")
When she talks about you or when you two are in public places, Reira either calls you by your name or uses classic nicknames (usually she calls you "my love"). Instead, your friends have become accustomed to you being called by all the strangest, most imaginative and affectionate names when you two are with them: "my muse", "future wife", "dango-chan" are at the order of the day
If you didn't know, the saying "to be at the order of the day" (essere all'ordine del giorno) is an Italian saying which indicates something that's part of everyday life.

Thanks y'all I'm OK now. <33 I do get some petty satisfaction knowing he got chewed out by a pissed supervisor at least. The man has always been unpleasant but this time he blew up. Scary.
crying at work because of an Incident with a male coworker (Nothing physical just a lot of loud swearing and throwing things around and it triggered me because I'm weak + have mild trauma) if any of my mutuals are online can you say something affirming for me or something. I gotta pull myself together

With credit towards @jhaernyl who shared some fantastic doctor/surgeon humor with me that ended up leading to.....
The ZoLaw AU No One Asked For...
Where Law is a surgeon on some small Northern Island.
Recently Transfered Nurse Sabo: Excuse me, sir, there is a man here? Roronoa Zoro. He's apparently suffered a small injury.
Law: *sighs* Let me guess, that loudmouthed robot made him come in.
Nurse Sabo: No, he-
Law: Robo-ya's wife then. At least one of them is sensible.
Sabo: He came alone, sir, said he was training and suddenly felt something was off balance. I couldn't -
Law: *Going completely still*
Law: *Turning and grabbing the poor new trainee by the shoulders* QUICK! Answer me this: did he finish his training?
Sabo: Err, no, he said he was worried and he came right in so-
Law: BEPO GRAB THE CRASH CART! WE HAVE A CODE GREEN!!!
Law rooming down the whole hospital.
Law: WE CANT LET HIM GET AWAY HE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED *Pointing dramatically as Shachi and Penguin nod to one another, both grab jing gurneys and blocking off the ER exit*
Zoro: *Raising an eyebrow, though also still suspiciously holding onto his arm* Honestly, Torao it was no big deal, I feel fine now.
Law: *sighs* Zoro-ya... *looking down at the floor.*
*....And there is just a trail of blood on the floor leading to Zoro who is holding into his arm which he has (roughly) bandaged on.*
Zoro: What?
Law: .... Zoro-ya, give me your arm. Now.
Zoro: Torao, I told you, its fine, I just needed some ba-
Law: Give. Me. Your. Arm.
Zoro: Tch *hands over his stupid traitor arm*
Trainee Nurse Rebecca: *passes out cold*
Law: Zoro-ya, what has Law said about cutting off your own limbs!?
Zoro: But you always fix it and it was easier than-
Law: That's not the point Zoro-ya! You can't just cut off limbs whenever it's easy!
Sabo: So are they always like this?
Older HCA Ikkaku, who is used to these idiots: *holds out popcorn bucket to share*
No words. Her show is on.
Sabo: But none of the TVs are-Ooooh HCA Ikkaku: I said shhh!
Ikkaku: Roronoa just mentioned Doctor Trafalgar just being sour over Zoro's ankle stitches. That ALWAYS leads to drama.
2nd HCA aka Perona: *appearing from nowhere to grab a handful of popcorn* Doctor Trafalgar hates those scars. Everyone in the hospital - depth, probably the whole town - knows as much. Law doesn't exactly make it a secret.
Like catching someone up on a your favorite long running television show.
Only its live and one of the people is holding a detached bloody arm.
Ikkaku: *ignoring the wide eyes stare from young nurse* Ooh, Looks like Roronoa is going to let him attach it.
Perona: *giggling* Doctor Trafalgar is gonna give him such a hard time! Horohoro, I'll bet he wouldn't even call for the anesthesiologist!
Law: AND DON'T BOTHER GETTING CESEAR! WE'RE DOING THIS NOW!
Ikkaku: Yo, new guy, stop just standing around and get your pal there off the floor.
Perona: And hurry up, we doesn't want to miss when Roronoa finally smiles. Doctor Trafalgar goes bright red! It's SOOO cute! 💕
She's right, too, as anyone whose worked there long enough will attest. It's the best part of the whole show.
The trainee and new transfer are not sure about all this, but the employees who have worked there awhile seem to be.... enjoying it?
Law: WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU, IDIOT!? WHAT IF I WASN'T HERE TODAY!? AND DON'T JUST ACT LIKE IT WAS A MINOR PAIN!!!
Zoro: Hey! Last time, when Robin made me come (damn noisy witch) and I showed the lady what was wrong, she passed out and you got all-
Law: Because you can't just show our poor check in team a gaping chest wound, Zoro-ya!
Law: *eyebrow twitching* Still! You're supposed to mention when you've CUT OFF YOUR OWN ARM!
It doesn't seem fair for Torao is getting so upset with him, especially since this time Zoro came in without even being made to. Oh, and he knew it wouldn't be a problem! Torao is the best surgeon in the world, Zoro knew he'd be able to fix him.
Sure enough.....
Zoro: Oye, Torao! Look at that! It's good as new! *Bright, sharp smile* See, ai knew there was a reason we kept you around!
Law: *immediately frozen*
HCA Ikkaku: *nudges nurse* Wait for it...
Law: *frozen*
HCA Perona: *holding onto the trainee Nurse too tightly, eyes wide* Here it comes....
Law: *whole face turns bright pink, pulling his surgery mask up as if hiding* Whatever you idiot! Now, stop getting yourself hurt! I'm not sewing on any other limbs for another month at least, I swear!
Zoro: You are the best, Torao *smile getting even brighter*
Perona: 💕 Ahh, aren't they so cute? 💕
Rebecca: Are they?
Sabo: Or are they just scary?
Zoro: *still with that sharp smile as he twists his arm, practicing all his sword moves. Absolutely glowing with pride* Not even a scar, doc. You really are the best.
Law: Of course I didn't leave a scar! I'm not some useless sack of flesh like that Hogsback asshole. I would never leave you with an unwanted mark.
Zoro: *still studying his arm, smile becoming softer, warmer* You know... I wouldn't mind a little mark. So long as it was from you.
And Law's mask gets pulled up so high he's practically got his eyes covered.
(It's both.)
(They're both adorable and scary.)

https://www.tumblr.com/lexi-the-demon-69/755903674133446656/i-made-a-character-ai-bot-for-projection-dark?source=share
Ngl I tried this bot and it turned into a version of y/n x projection dark choco so fast and now it got me wondering...idk if you do hca or not but just something to do a funny brainstorm of since I daydreamed about it...what would a y/n x this dark choco be like? Like if dark choco and/or (preferably and) the projection fell for y/n? Sorry for thought out of nowhere but wanted to ask incase the creator of this amazing character and this amazing bot themselves had any ideas...unfiltered ideas that aren't controlled by an ai lmao! If ya don't do hcs, that's OK! I just wanted to spark up a fun thought lmao!
That is a great question in all honesty. To be frank, I honestly never thought of Projection Dark Choco x Y/N headcanons before, since I mainly focus on his character and lore. I've always considered Projection Choco Aroace or at least on the Ace spectrum like Dark Choco (Dark Choco is canonically ace in this AU), but this looks like a fun challenge!
Here are some that I could come up with:
-Projection Choco never really cared much about romance since his existence is nothing but spreading pain and misery to others (*cough cough* Dark Choco-) and always saw it as just a form of weakness and "disgusting" in his own words... but that all changed when he met y/n.
-A MAJOR flirt. Projection always sees flirting as a game of establishing dominance over another, like threatening someone but socially acceptable. He loves seeing others cower before him in fear, but seeing y/n redder than his cuffed wrists just makes his heart sing.
-Even though he is a major flirt... that doesn't mean he can handle what he dished out. Pin this spirit to a wall and that will be MORE than enough to rile him up!
-A big tease! He loves teasing y/n whenever he's bored or when Dark Choco refuses to acknowledge his existence.
-This spirit is 100% touch-starved and does not know how to handle physical affection. So, whenever he gets a hug or a smooch on the cheek, that'll make his face go red and he'll be left absolutely dumbfounded that someone dared to show him affection.... he does like it tho.
-Poor guy has a shit ton of problems since, well, y'know: a literal incarnation/reflection of Dark Choco's trauma and stuff? Not to mention that he's been left alone for YEARS until Dark Choco picked up the sword, so my guy needs some love. That doesn't mean he'll stop bullying Dark Choco tho...
-Call him an it and he will get very offended and will get grumpy until y/n apologizes. He thinks people calling him an "it" is EXTREMELY offensive and rude. So what if he's a spirit who psychologically torments his other half because he wants to get revenge against Dark Cacao? That doesn't mean you get to call him an "it"! You big meanie!-
-----
And there you go! This was pretty fun to do! If you guys want me to make more of these headcanons then let me know! (Helps keep you guys occupied while I work on the next comic page lol)

Living in London, I feel like a lot of incidents are isolated attacks that you dont hear about as opposed to organised riots. Whilst there have been some riots in the more conservative areas (like Walthamstow and Chingford) and more towards Central, in East London especially, I've experienced and heard of isolated anti-immigrant/muslim 'attacks' where it's one or two people that are perpetrators.
East London is the MOST multicultural place you'll find, but my dad's car was kicked in by some white guys literally two days ago. Thank God he was already in the car and was able to drive off, but I've found that it's mostly incidents like these.
In Whitechapel, which is literally full to the brim with Muslims, a young girls hijab was ripped off a month or two ago. Whilst I don't live in Whitechapel, me and my mum have been called nasty names to the point where my mum didn't feel like it was safe wearing her face veil anymore. Islamic private schools have been subjected to attacks as well and generally havent been perceived well, but this is nothing new. It's been happening for years, but you don't really hear about them because it's isolated incidents. I only know because I've been in those spaces and environments and have experienced it personally.
Loads of my friends don't feel like it's safe to go out being women because of the new wave of anti-muslim/poc sentiment and people mainly targeting women. Again, whilst this is nothing new from my experience of being born and raised in London, the anti-muslim/immigrant sentiment has only grown, and certain individuals are feeling braver because of the nationwide riots.
But there's a sense of community in London because of its multiculturalism that other places up North and around the UK don't have. Where you have some people committing hate crimes, you have others that are staunchly outspoken against it and that are really supportive, which I'm forever grateful for. My neighbours are absolutely wonderful, and I know that I'm completely safe with them, I know that if anything was to happen, I'd have people supporting me.
Its weird though because London is one of those places where you'll find there are extremely wealthy areas right next to some of the most destitute places, driving through Bow Road/Mile End Road/Whitechapel Road to Aldgate is a perfect example of that, you can see where it immediately changes and switches up. Same with Hackney and Shoreditch, you walk for 5-10 minutes, and it's like you've entered a whole new realm, likewise with Canary Wharf. It's kind of dystopian, tbh and literally, all the new buildings being built are high-rise 2/3 bedroom flats that obviously aren't for families.
It's like the with the new architecture too is trying to push families out. Alongside the serious underfunding of government facilities like public libraries and gyms. Over the past couple of years, dozens of libraries across have been closed, and public gyms have been sold off to private organisations. Youth facilities are horrendous, too. I've gone completely off on a tangent here, and I do apologise. But I just think it's so crazy that London has some of the poorest areas in the whole UK with poverty being at 25% I think (correct me if I'm wrong) just after the North and West Midlands which is around 28%.
I really shouldn't complain because I know in London we are so fortunate to have such an interconnected train/tube system and that our health care and schools are much more funded than those outside of London. But with more business and wealthier people coming in, the costs in London are increasing so much more disproportionately to wages.
My mum works in the NHS, and what the government did is before increasing the London living wage, they increased the NHS staff wages by 5%, compared to the London living wage by 10%. The NHS HCAS didn't increase, however, and stayed the same. On top of that, NHS staff are subjected to higher national insurances. I think it's just ridiculous. Anyways, I apologise for the long and rambling ask, and I totally lost focus. I hope you have an amazing day, and there's no pressure to answer this whatsoever <33
Nothing further to add here, as I'm not that familiar with London - call it a northerner's suspicion - but will definitely provide further insight to people less familiar with the UK.

ok so the tests of faith are basically just an excuse for komaeda to play kink games with hajime with some level of plausible deniability (aka an excuse for me to depict them). plays heavy into their dom/sub relationship, with a certain level of pred/prey and whatever they’re up to. i’m a little freak so maybe i’ll indulge my cnc kink a little (although it’s kinda dubcon from the start with this au). i’ve actually been thinking abt komaeda getting hajime drunk on communion wine but maybe we could turn that idea into one of their later-on tests of faith. could an inebriated hajime remain in the glory of god when faced with temptation, or would he stray from the light? idk i’m kinda spitballing, i don’t have too much in mind with regards to the tests of faith rn bc i’ve been focusing on trying to get hajime’s backstory properly fleshed out lately. dw though i ABSOLUTELY will be getting to the tests of faith eventually they are like. a routine thing for them once they get settled into their dynamic. komaeda explains them away as a straightforward way to check on hajime’s progress, and hajime buys it because the alternative is much much scarier.
as for the thingy i wrote. HEEHEHEE thank youuuu i don’t really consider myself a writer so it’s very affirming to see so many ppl respond to my writing well. extra thank you for picking up on the “you can handle hard things” euphemism— i was worried it was a bit too subtle actually. i was gonna have it be something like “you can take it when things get hard” but i couldn’t phrase it in a way i liked so i settled for “handle” instead lmao. and yesss komaeda being a subtle creep is a huge part of this au. bc it’s from hajime’s perspective his actions are going to be excused and depicted in a rose-tinted manner but if you actually look at what he’s doing he’s like objectively being creepy (who the hell comforts someone who’s fallen to the ground crying by pressing their face into their hip?) but hajime is both too whipped and too caught-up in his own self-loathing to really notice. he’ll accept anything and everything komaeda offers him, due in part to his desperation to be saved and in part to the thoughts he fears will drag him screaming into hell 👍, but i really like the idea of komaeda’s actions being genuinely inexcusable and fucked up when you take the time to look at it objectively. i <3 unreliable narration

Heya! Was looking at your banner again and was wondering if you had any headcanons for Schez and Hans if they interacted more? What do you like most about their dynamic?
(Visibly shaking like a chihuahua) no I don’t have any whatsoever
- HCA did read 1001 Nights as a child (according to recounts of his childhood), and considering some of his stories I wouldn’t be surprised he took some inspiration from it! So I like to imagine in Fate, Hans is actually a big fan of Scheherazade!
- following that, I like to think when she first showed up in Chaldea, he was actually rather shy about meeting her. Like how you’d be shy upon meeting an idol. I think she’d be equally as shy considering she has a low self image upon arriving due to her past and actions, so having someone who read her stories and inspired them would probably be a little overwhelming.
- ultimately I think she and Hans get along pretty well, but I think their biggest tension would be along the lines of how pointed his criticisms can be and in return how destructive her self preservation can become.
- amongst the writers I think they have the closest style and so I can imagine them sharing recommendations more regularly.
- it’s far more headcanon than based on their actual appearances, but I sometimes like to think Scheherazade and Hans have a mentor-student relationship - more on the casual side since they remain in a similar position of power but in that Hans admires her as a writer.
- I can also see a romantic relationship , but I don’t think either of them is capable of being sexually imitate. Mainly due to both their traumas relating to sexual situations (very different traumas for clarification). I also don’t really see either of them as interested in that sort of thing in a relationship. It’s a bit harder to imagine it without some serious body dysphoria on Hans’ part due to being placed in a younger body (if we’re using his normal body and not the one from the summer event, that one is the one I imagine most would prefer to use here though) and the effects of his Innocent Monster and also his historic issues , which may slow any progression for a long time.
- ultimately though, I think they two could find the place to see each other as confidants.

Cassandra Jaramillo and Kavitha Surana at ProPublica:
Josseli Barnica grieved the news as she lay in a Houston hospital bed on Sept. 3, 2021: The sibling she’d dreamt of giving her daughter would not survive this pregnancy. The fetus was on the verge of coming out, its head pressed against her dilated cervix; she was 17 weeks pregnant and a miscarriage was “in progress,” doctors noted in hospital records. At that point, they should have offered to speed up the delivery or empty her uterus to stave off a deadly infection, more than a dozen medical experts told ProPublica.
But when Barnica’s husband rushed to her side from his job on a construction site, she relayed what she said the medical team had told her: “They had to wait until there was no heartbeat,” he told ProPublica in Spanish. “It would be a crime to give her an abortion.” For 40 hours, the anguished 28-year-old mother prayed for doctors to help her get home to her daughter; all the while, her uterus remained exposed to bacteria. Three days after she delivered, Barnica died of an infection. Barnica is one of at least two Texas women who ProPublica found lost their lives after doctors delayed treating miscarriages, which fall into a gray area under the state’s strict abortion laws that prohibit doctors from ending the heartbeat of a fetus. Neither had wanted an abortion, but that didn’t matter. Though proponents insist that the laws protect both the life of the fetus and the person carrying it, in practice, doctors have hesitated to provide care under threat of prosecution, prison time and professional ruin.
ProPublica is telling these women’s stories this week, starting with Barnica’s. Her death was “preventable,” according to more than a dozen medical experts who reviewed a summary of her hospital and autopsy records at ProPublica’s request; they called her case “horrific,” “astounding” and “egregious.”
The doctors involved in Barnica’s care at HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest did not respond to multiple requests for comment on her case. In a statement, HCA Healthcare said “our responsibility is to be in compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations” and said that physicians exercise their independent judgment. The company did not respond to a detailed list of questions about Barnica’s care. Like all states, Texas has a committee of maternal health experts who review such deaths to recommend ways to prevent them, but the committee’s reports on individual cases are not public and members said they have not finished examining cases from 2021, the year Barnica died. ProPublica is working to fill gaps in knowledge about the consequences of abortion bans. Reporters scoured death data, flagging Barnica’s case for its concerning cause of death: “sepsis” involving “products of conception.” We tracked down her family, obtained autopsy and hospital records and enlisted a range of experts to review a summary of her care that ProPublica created in consultation with two doctors.
Among those experts were more than a dozen OB-GYNs and maternal-fetal medicine specialists from across the country, including researchers at prestigious institutions, doctors who regularly handle miscarriages and experts who have served on state maternal mortality review committees or held posts at national professional medical organizations. After reviewing the four-page summary, which included the timeline of care noted in hospital records, all agreed that requiring Barnica to wait to deliver until after there was no detectable fetal heartbeat violated professional medical standards because it could allow time for an aggressive infection to take hold. They said there was a good chance she would have survived if she was offered an intervention earlier.
“If this was Massachusetts or Ohio, she would have had that delivery within a couple hours,” said Dr. Susan Mann, a national patient safety expert in obstetric care who teaches at Harvard University. Many noted a striking similarity to the case of Savita Halappavanar, a 31-year-old woman who died of septic shock in 2012 after providers in Ireland refused to empty her uterus while she was miscarrying at 17 weeks. When she begged for care, a midwife told her, “This is a Catholic country.” The resulting investigation and public outcry galvanized the country to change its strict ban on abortion. But in the wake of deaths related to abortion access in the United States, leaders who support restricting the right have not called for any reforms.
[...]
“They Should Vote With Their Feet”
Texas has been on the forefront of fighting abortion access. At the time of Barnica’s miscarriage in 2021, the Supreme Court had not yet overturned the constitutional right to terminate a pregnancy. But Texas lawmakers, intent on being the first to enact a ban with teeth, had already passed a harsh civil law using a novel legal strategy that circumvented Roe v. Wade: It prohibited doctors from performing an abortion after six weeks by giving members of the public incentives to sue doctors for $10,000 judgments. The bounty also applied to anyone who “aided and abetted” an abortion.
A year later, after the Dobbs v. Jackson ruling was handed down, an even stricter criminal law went into effect, threatening doctors with up to 99 years in prison and $100,000 in fines. Soon after the ruling, the Biden administration issued federal guidance reminding doctors in hospital emergency rooms they have a duty to treat pregnant patients who need to be stabilized, including by providing abortions for miscarriages. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton fought against that, arguing that following the guidance would force doctors to “commit crimes” under state law and make every hospital a “walk-in abortion clinic.” When a Dallas woman asked a court for approval to end her pregnancy because her fetus was not viable and she faced health risks if she carried it to term, Paxton fought to keep her pregnant. He argued her doctor hadn’t proved it was an emergency and threatened to prosecute anyone who helped her. “Nothing can restore the unborn child’s life that will be lost as a result,” he wrote to the court.
No doctor in Texas, or the 20 other states that criminalize abortion, has been prosecuted for violating a state ban. But the possibility looms over their every decision, dozens of doctors in those states told ProPublica, forcing them to consider their own legal risks as they navigate their patient’s health emergencies. The lack of clarity has resulted in many patients being denied care. In 2023, Texas lawmakers made a small concession to the outcry over the uncertainty the ban was creating in hospitals. They created a new exception for ectopic pregnancies, a potentially fatal condition where the embryo attaches outside the uterine cavity, and for cases where a patient’s membranes rupture prematurely before viability, which introduces a high risk of infection. Doctors can still face prosecution, but are allowed to make the case to a judge or jury that their actions were protected, not unlike self-defense arguments after homicides. Barnica’s condition would not have clearly fit this exception.
This year, after being directed to do so by the state Supreme Court, the Texas Medical Board released new guidance telling doctors that an emergency didn’t need to be “imminent” in order to intervene and advising them to provide extra documentation regarding risks. But in a recent interview, the board’s president, Dr. Sherif Zaafran, acknowledged that these efforts only go so far and the group has no power over criminal law: “There’s nothing we can do to stop a prosecutor from filing charges against the physicians.” Asked what he would tell Texas patients who are miscarrying and unable to get treatment, he said they should get a second opinion: “They should vote with their feet and go and seek guidance from somebody else.”
The consequences of strict abortion bans are being felt, as Josseli Barnica died as a result of delayed miscarriage treatments in Texas.
