lot of ooc posts today sorry but shoutout to elijah who was born into a grieving household and didn’t have anything that made him particularly stand out in his family which had a hand in his parentification

finn was the oldest son which meant something to mikael for certain and seemed to be esther’s favorite based on how much she had to dote on him to get him to keep her secrets (highly unconvinced esther would have given him so much attention otherwise), klaus was the affair baby she had to keep an eye on, kol was the only kid who could do magic (canonically anyway) which had to worry esther because of dahlia, rebekah was the only girl, and henrik was the baby.

that left elijah in the wake of their grief over freya which wasn’t lifted in the slightest until klaus was born and then he just got bumped to big brother, the only one who wasn’t grieving and therefore the only one who took on the role of big brother to begin with. poor man never stood a chance.
