nhl teams graded on attractiveness by me, a self-proclaimed judge of all hot men
ana: B+
strongest contributors: trevor zegras, jamie drysdale
despite losing josh manson (he’s in a better place now <3) they are a solid team but there’s definitely room to improve.
ari: F
there’s is literally nobody who contributes to the hotness of this team
bos: B
strongest contributors: charlie coyle, matt grzelcyk
knowing absolutely nothing about anyone really on this team, they’re a very (slightly above) average looking team
buf: C+
strongest contributors: owen power, dylan cozens, tage thompson
there’s a few that bring the average down but overall, not bad
cgy: B
strongest contributors: matthew tkachuk, elias lindholm
look, they might not be everyone’s favourite but i think the main group of guys are all cute. however marks taken off because most of them are married i think
car: C
strongest contributors: andrei svechnikov
almost all of them look like different variations of the same average looking man
chi: B-
strongest contributors: kirby dach
honourable mention to dylan strome.
col: A+
strongest contributors: everyone except jack johnson
this one doesn’t even need an explanation
cbj: A-
strongest contributors: nick blankenburg, boone jenner, cole sillinger
their original mark was B- but then i watched that new video and bumped them up. they fly under the radar (literally because i sometimes forget they’re a team) but they’re surprisingly good looking
dal: D
strongest contributors: tyler seguin, roope hintz
i’m just not interested in them tbh
det: D-
strongest contributors: mo seider, lucas raymond
this is very generous of me
edm: D
strongest contributors: leon draisaitl, dylan holloway
these two are the only attractive ones, there’s a couple others who aren’t bad looking but… let’s just say i feel bad for oilers fans
fla: C-
strongest contributors: ben chiarot, gustav forsling
i actually got bored while i was looking through their roster photos
lak: C
strongest contributors: alex turcotte, alex iafallo
there’s a couple other decent ones but meh
min: B
strongest contributors: matt boldy, tyson jost
literally a 50/50 split. they do have potential though and the boldy/josty duo really bumps up their mark
mtl: C+
strongest contributors: josh anderson, nick suzuki, cole caufield
they kinda look like soccer players also why does cole look 12 in his headshot
nsh: C-
strongest contributors: roman josi
josi carries. they aren’t bad but also not amazing
njd: A
strongest contributors: jack hughes, ty smith, nico hischier
they have a few cute guys but then the rest are just meh. i feel like there’s a lot of old guys so that brings them down too
nyi: C
strongest contributors: anthony beauvillier, matt martin
they seem very old. if tito leaves, their mark is taking a serious hit
nyr: D-
strongest contributors: braden schneider, dryden hunt?
i actually can’t stand them so yeah😐
ott: D+
strongest contributors: josh norris, tim stützle
i literally know like 5 people on this team. they’re not bad though, honestly was pleasantly surprised when i looked at their roster
phi: F
strongest contributors: carter hart
sorry gingers just aren’t my type
pit: B
strongest contributors: sidney crosby, richard rakell, john marino
they collectively give off dilf energy and i kinda love them for it
sjs: D+
strongest contributors: thomas bordeleau, william ekland, jasper weatherby
not even bordy can save them. i don’t know anyone else on this team and i don’t think i want to anyway
sea: B+
strongest contributors: jordan eberle, matty beniers, haydn fleury
this one feels controversial but i think for the most part, they’re a fairly attractive team
stl: D-
strongest contributors: jordan kyrou
kyrou is the only one i can stand on this team and even that is being nice
tbl: D-
strongest contributors: ross colton, brandon hagel
ew
tor: D-
strongest contributors: mitch marner
this one is actually shocking, maybe if they had cuter players they’d do better in the playoffs
van: A-
strongest contributors: quinn hughes, elias pettersson, brock boeser, nils höglander
they hold a special place in my heart (would be A+ but tyler myers and brad hunt)
vgk: F
strongest contributors: brendan brisson
i think bren might be the only attractive one?
wsh: D-
strongest contributors: tom wilson
honourable mention to dilf tj oshie because i believe he’s a girl dad??
wpg: D+
strongest contributors: pierre luc dubois, nikolaj ehlers, blake wheeler
i thought pld would be the only one so props to them.

If one were interested in learning more about the USNTDP boys, where would that person turn? Are there any primers, seminal texts, etc you recommend? Thank you!!
oh boy oh boy oh boy! a chance to compile so many links that i have been helplessly texting my pals for the last eight months as i fell all the way down this rabbit hole!
first, let's define our terms. by "the USNTDP boys," i assume we are referring to the core members of the USNTDP class of 2019, most of whom were drafted in the first round in 2019 and also formed the core of the 2021 team usa world juniors gold medal squad. theirs is considered to be the best class the NTDP has ever produced, and also a uniquely close and fun group.
to my knowledge there is no single picture of all eight key dudes in this pack. this one comes close, or this one. or this video, which captures the group dynamic as well as anything. also, the night of their draft they had a karaoke party and wore each other's jerseys. (god, look at trevor and cole and jack's expressions in that first pic, just daring you to question them.)
if you want to get more of a feel for the group dynamic, just read their commentary on pretty much any one of their instagram posts. this podcast, in which the interviewers ask cole, turcs, and trevor to describe each of their teammates in one word, is also seminal. for example:
interviewer: matt boldy? trevor: quirky. interviewer: he said you were dumb. trevor: ok, i'm gonna say he's a little chubby then.
here's a quick summary and some links for everybody. i'm gonna focus on material that is relevant to the group dynamic, so this should not be considered a comprehensive primer on any of these individuals. but please know i am happy to expound further on anything mentioned below.
trevor zegras: westchester county prep school rich kid, drafted ninth overall by the ducks, one-and-done at boston university. trevor is cocky, charismatic, and creative. his prep school coach called him dennis the menace. he is incapable of sitting still. he looks like an absolute idiot at all times, and he is fully aware of that and does not mind it a bit. he is my favorite.
cole caufield: wisconsin native, drafted 15th by the habs, spent two years at wisconsin. absolutely shattered the NTDP record for career goals. you are probably aware of his pretty impressive rookie showing in the playoffs. he is always smiling and he has the kind of confidence you can only get away with if you're short. asked to describe cole, the only word matt boldy could think of is cute.
alex turcotte: suburban chicago kid, drafted fifth overall by the kings, one-and-done at wisconsin. nothing ever seems to go right for turcs. he was drafted higher than everyone else except jack but stalled in the AHL while they all made their NHL debuts. he was the 1C of the future, and then the kings drafted quinton byfield a year later. he was supposedly the next best center after jack, and then trevor outshone him at world juniors. fiercely competitive and maybe even more driven than most to play through injury. was in charge of the aux cord in the ntdp locker room.
spencer knight: connecticut native, drafted 13th by the florida panthers, spent two years at boston college. he's your typical goalie, weird and hyper-focused, like carter hart if carter hart was an east coast prep school bro. trevor and spencer went to avon old farms together before the ntdp.
matt boldy: another boston-area boy, drafted 12th by the wild, spent two years at boston college. boldy is the serious, quirky one. he and cole got very into bowling. the running joke is that he has a dad bod. trevor adores him.
cam york: socal roller boy, drafted 14th by the flyers, played two years at michigan. these dudes all voted cam to be their captain. turcs is awed by his hockey smarts. extremely into fishing, seems even more bro-y than the rest of them. has ginger hair that stands straight up every time he tries to grow it out, and thighs that i spend a completely normal amount of time thinking about.
patrick moynihan: boston-area native, drafted in the sixth round by the devils, currently of providence college. pat is important because he is everybody's favorite. here is a video of jack convincing the devils to draft pat. the naked fondness on his face should be illegal.
jack hughes: thanks to jack going 1OA, you can google plenty of material about him, so i'm not gonna bother to summarize. jack was the only one of these guys to skip college entirely, and maybe he shouldn't have. of relevance to the group dynamic, turcs lived with him during the program. hosted a gathering at the hughes summer compound in august 2020 that should feature in every team usa fic ever.
go forth down that rabbit hole, anon, and come back here and suffer with me anytime.

2019 NHL Mock Draft: Could Hughes or Kakko save the Red Wings?
VICTORIA, BC – JANUARY 2: Jack Hughes # 6 of the United States skates throughout a quarter-final video game against the Czech Republic at the IIHF World Junior Championships at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre on January 2, 2019 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Could Jack Hughes or Kaapo Kakko end up on the Detroit Red Wings? And if so, does either player have the prospective to move the momentum of the franchise? Let’s explore what a March 5 NHL Mock Draft would look like.
As we get in into the home stretch of the 2018-19 NHL campaign, the line between pretender and contender grows progressively obvious.
With playoff matchups all but determined in the Atlantic, the attention of lots of has moved towards hockey’s other three divisions.
And while numerous playoff positions in the Western Conference will likely stay up for grabs up until the bitter end of the present season, it’s reasonable to conclude that various groups are currently expecting the next phases of their particular rebuilding processes.
As it stands, the Colorado Avalanche remain in a prime spot to land the most seriously acclaimed prospect available in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft– 17- year-old center Jack Hughes.
They hold the Ottawa Senators’ first-round choice in what has the potential to be kept in mind as the most head-scratching aspect of the notorious Matt Duchene offer.
Yet equally wanted– however sometimes overlooked– is another elite player in Kaapo Kakko of HC TPS (Finnish Liiga). Frequently compared to none besides the Winnipeg Jets’ Patrik Laine, the 18- year-old winger assures to raise the level of competitors of whichever organization he joins.
And if the structural dynamic of the league continues to take its current kind, it promises that a person of the abovementioned prospects will end up in Hockeytown– therefore translating the aspirational hopes of fans into a reality, undoubtedly.
Our March 5 mock draft is as follows.
Colorado Avalanche— Jack Hughes (C)
Detroit Red Wings— Kaapo Kakko (RW)

Ha if u want to um. Elaborate on that d/s spectrum we’d love to hear it ahahahah :D
thank you kindly for this ask! let's take this from the top (by which i mean we're going to start with team usa's dommiest dom and end with the subbiest sub, and yes i am being intentionally just a bit sloppy about conflating dom/top and sub/bottom.)
cam york: they voted him their captain, so. also there is this video. also there is this photo. don't try to tell me cam york is anything other than the alpha dom of team usa.
cole caufield: i just get the feeling that cole knows what he wants and he's always kind of one step ahead, you know what i mean?
matt boldy: listen, it would be completely understandable to combine team usa's running joke about boldy having a dad bod (see e.g. comments here) with team usa's obvious daddy kink and slot boldy right into the dom category. HOWEVER. i am interested in his teammates' descriptions of him as "quirky" and "serious" and in how he is seemingly not the greatest at picking up on social cues (seriously matty nobody asked you to act out that tiktok?) and i like to think of him as just a little bit out of step with the group. THEREFORE in my heart of hearts i headcanon matt boldy as asexual and baffled but tolerant of team usa's entire deal. AND YET i think that if trevor was bored and up for it he could absolutely trick boldy into domming him.
ok we're gonna put the subs after the jump bc this is getting long and also more filthy.
trevor zegras: listen there is no human alive who embodies the spirit of "i am gonna be SO OBNOXIOUS because deep down i really want someone to Make Me Behave" more than trevor zegras. the only reason trevor does not land further down on this list is that there is a lot of sub competition on team usa, OK? (and also i think that sometimes jamie drysdale gets the sneaking suspicion that he is being topped from the bottom, like, jamie kind of thought he was in charge here but all of a sudden trevor's telling him he's not allowed to come yet?)
jack hughes: look, it's hard going 1OA, OK? and then having a disappointing rookie season where you're constantly second-guessing your decision to not play NCAA hockey for maybe just a year? will somebody please just tell jack how to be a good boy? give him some very clear directions and when he fulfills them please just tell him he did a very good job and he has earned a treat. pet his hair. make him breakfast. (thanks, ty, glad you're on top of this one.)
alex turcotte: omg TURCS. there is an entire separate post here. i disagree with some of the fanon characterization of turcs because it's just not how his teammates characterize him. he's the tough guy with the netfront presence who's gonna slash your knuckles if you take the puck from him in practice. soooooooooo i really like the idea of alex's older AHL teammates getting a load of the hot shit future 1C with the NHL bloodline and deciding he needs to be Put In His Place. i like turcs getting knocked around hard at practice and hazed in the dressing room and him and his teammates gradually coming to the realization that turcs likes the humiliation A Little Too Much, you know what i mean? i dream about turcs hanging out with trevor and jamie and feeling a little smug about it. like, trevor and jamie's whole puppy love thing is cute or whatever, but turcs is getting dicked down by Men.

ok, i am perseverating on this topic because it really did worry me. so i did a full usntdp audit of my blog. i’m jotting down my reflections only for my own future reference, although they may also be useful for anyone who’s trying to decide whether to unfollow and/or request that i filter something for you (which i’m always happy to do).
so, i went back through my entire blog starting with the date trevor zegras zoomed across the foreground of the team usa photo and straight into my heart. i was greatly relieved to find that i have not made any explicit references to individual minors. everything of possible relevance to the topic was either a general reference to the usntdp, or a specific present-day reference to an individual member of the usntdp class of 2019, all of whom are currently 20 years old. because hopefully reviewing everything i’ve said in the past is going to help me be more mindful going forward, i’m gonna break it down:
references to the usntdp
--as i suspected, joke tags were indeed the problem. my general ustndp tag was a bad idea and has been retired. i regret it, and i regret another similar one i used a couple of times. now i no longer have a general usntdp tag, but i decided i’d rather leave all my references to the collective usntdp class of 2019 unsearchable instead of making them accessible in the general usntdp tag or coming up with another supposedly fun tag that might turn out to be a bad idea.
--along similar lines, i found one reblog of the joke “usa hockey is fuck or die.” the source material that led to this joke is a locker room video from the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship (a U20 event). i checked DOBs and everyone involved is over 18. still not going to reference that joke again on the blog, or anything similar.
--i have made multiple references to the concept of usntdp spin the bottle. i have thought about this, and my conclusion is that it falls on the non-explicit side of my bright line, and i will continue to reference this cherished headcanon. teen kissing: approved!
references to individual members of the usntdp class of 2019
i did not find anything in this category that i felt violated my bright line about not writing anything explicit about minors. i did find occasional suggestive content related to 19- and 20-year-olds. gonna jot down my thinking about each of those instances:
--i have said a couple of highly complimentary things about about cam york’s thighs. the pictures that prompted those references all appear to postdate his usntdp era and therefore contain legal adult thighs. i am going to continue to allow myself the occasional thirsty thigh comment when circumstances warrant, although reminding myself that is really not the purpose of my blog.
--i have made some explicit references to trevor zegras in fic scenarios, all self-evidently pertaining to the post-usntdp era.
--i have obliquely referenced my cherished and elaborate humiliation kink headcanons about alex turcotte and his AHL teammates (i.e. in circumstances in which everybody’s 18+), and i will continue to do so. obliquely.
--as noted in those pearl-clutching tags the other day, i have referenced writing porn about cole caufield, who is currently 20 years old. i don’t think it’s reasonable for someone to see an undated reference about porn and assume that a minor is involved. everyone was a minor once. if someone personally still thinks of a current 20-year-old as the minor he was more than two years ago,  that seems like it could be related to fandom’s pernicious desire to infantilize rich famous white men, and that’s not a me problem. i have decided that i will not be adding an explicit “...and this all takes place after their 18th birthdays!” qualifier whenever i reference writing porn about current legal adults.
--relatedly, the current forecast is that i’m gonna have some thoughts about cole caufield’s 20-year-old body, and i may air those on this blog at a level of explicitness similar to my thoughts about jordan martinook’s body. i can’t help it, it’s... like... transitive horniness as a symptom of writing fic? idk. i am not gonna stop writing sex scenes about consenting adults (even if those adults are 5′7 and have the face of a cavalier king charles spaniel puppy),* and i am not gonna stop enthusing about that writing process in tags.
one overall takeaway for me is that some people may have a different comfort zone than i do about explicit material pertaining to people who fandom has known as minors in the not too distant past. maybe this isn’t an issue for me personally because that set-up was inherent to 1D fandom? i’m comfortable with my bright line of “no explicit writing about minors but anything 18+ is fair game,” and if anybody has a different personal comfort zone, i’m satisfied that the appropriate solution is for them to unfollow and not for me to stop lovingly crafting this quarantine facetime wank scene. however, in order to be responsible about lovingly crafting porn involving consenting adults, i have to make sure i’m not sloppy about general usntdp references that could be read to encompass minors, whether or not that’s an interpretation i intended.
*hmmmm this does make me notice that nobody said boo when this blog included explicit material regarding 20-year-old andrei svechnikov. it’s interesting to consider whether people look at svech differently than the 20-year-old alumni of the usntdp because svech is 6′2 and built like an ox, or whether national origin could be a factor here.

Could Jack Hughes or Kaapo Kakko end up on the Detroit Red Wings? And if so, does either player have the potential to shift the momentum of the franchise? Let’s explore what a March 5 NHL Mock Draft would look like.
As we enter into the home stretch of the 2018-19 NHL campaign, the line between pretender and contender grows increasingly apparent.
With playoff matchups all but determined in the Atlantic, the attention of many has shifted toward hockey’s other three divisions.
And while several playoff positions in the Western Conference shall likely remain up for grabs until the bitter end of the current season, it’s fair to conclude that numerous teams are already looking ahead to the next stages of their respective rebuilding processes.
As it stands, the Colorado Avalanche are in a prime spot to land the most critically acclaimed prospect available in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft — 17-year-old center Jack Hughes.
They hold the Ottawa Senators’ first-round pick in what has the potential to be remembered as the most head-scratching element of the infamous Matt Duchene deal.
Yet equally desired — but at times overlooked — is another elite player in Kaapo Kakko of HC TPS (Finnish Liiga). Often compared to none other than the Winnipeg Jets’ Patrik Laine, the 18-year-old winger promises to elevate the level of competition of whichever organization he joins.
And if the structural dynamic of the league continues to take its current form, it seems likely that one of the aforementioned prospects will wind up in Hockeytown — thus translating the aspirational hopes of fans into a reality, indeed.
