Ravi Propaganda

Who is Ravi:

Local mortician and slight recluse, Ravi comes off as everyone's favorite Weird Guy (positive). He has an encyclopedic knowledge of death and decay and he's passionate about his work. He's a little too easygoing, except when he isn't. He can throw on a smile and put together a beautiful funeral, only to uncomfortably stand in in the corner during the reception afterward. Beyond a select few people he loathes social interaction. Mostly because he isn't very good at it. He laughs easily and often, though not usually at the same things everyone else laughs at. Often morbid, the things that amuse him can be downright off-putting for others.

Ravi also has a bit of a smug streak. He's one of the few people in town who truly knows what is going on. His connection to the Fog is beyond anything anyone else understands. And, to him, that makes him a little bit better than other people. Empathy is something he struggles with at times, as is figuring out his own emotions. Ravi enjoys puzzles and knitting and hiking through the forest. He prefers solitude whenever possible. Sometimes when he's feeling contemplative he'll sit on his back stairs and watch deer in the woods. He's an enigma, and he likes it that way. He also is fascinated by the magic that the fog provides, and magic in general. The occult has always been something of an interest for him.

Ravi's Romance:

Ravi's romance is a lot of things. He's a romantic, once you get past his trauma...but that isn't easy. He lost the only partner he's ever had. It was terrible, and scarring, and he's never been able to move past it. The fact that MC makes him fall in love at all terrifies him. How do you love somebody genuinely and honestly when you barely feel like a human being? And it's all complicated by the fact that Ravi rarely tells the truth. Lying is easier, keeping secrets is safer, even when it involves the people he loves most in the world.

His route is a bit of a slow burn, in that he's hesitant to jump into anything, even as his feelings for MC grow. But, more than that, it's good for people who like a relationship that has angstier elements. It's a little bit about learning to love again and to let go of the past. But it's also the path where the MC and the RO can either make each other better...or make each other worse. Ravi's eventual love for MC is undeniable. It's what comes next that might complicate things.

it's extremely critical that you see the photo of the perp walk for luigi mangione as being propaganda. i've seen so many people wave it off and instead fawn over his looks. and trust me, i know it ended up being kind of pathetic and weird - but please don't brush it off as a "modelling opportunity" for him. it's a fucking terrifying message the police are sending.

i want to make a few comparisons here, in case you're not from the US or familiar with why the perp walk thing is something to pay attention to. just to set the groundwork for why this is a purposeful, unusual, and cruel act by the nyc police - for why this is not a common occurrence and for why that matters.

the prosecution alleges the show of force is due to the charge of "terrorism." for comparison, in june 2015, tsarnaev was found guilty for the boston marathon bombing, which killed 3 people and injured hundreds. his actions are considered to be an act of domestic terrorism. i have spent the last hour looking through google for pictures of similar to mangione's perp walk - and so far, i have found zero. i also just do not personally remember a moment like that, despite living in boston at the time.

they allege that luigi is a stone-cold killer who carried out a longterm plan, making him particularly dangerous. again for comparison: in nyc, recently cory martin was found guilty of the killing of brandy odom. the murder was planned and premeditated to steal insurance money. and yet no staged perp walk. why didn't her life matter enough for a "show of force"?

but mangione gets paraded by a veritable army of police officers as if he is a rabid animal. for a single citizen who allegedly killed one other single citizen, the "largest perp walk ever" occurs.

so what is the "strong message" that the mayor and the police were trying to send here? the mayor speaks as if mangione is already convicted of terrorism. there is a very thin number of people who feel threatened by the CEO's death. none of us felt like mangione needs to be under massive armed guard.

the message is that you shouldn't resist. they are trying to "make an example" of him - that if you behave badly and kill a single rich person, you'll be treated as if you killed hundreds of people. you will be treated worse than a man who was found guilty of terrorism. you will be considered guilty without trial. the message is that the rich are a protected class, and you cannot touch them without massive punishment. they are trying to prevent a revolution by showing dominance and force against you.

the message is that the police are a puppet of the wealthy and that the law is not equally applied across class disparity. it is "some are more equal than others." it is "one life is more precious than another."

the show of force wasn't for luigi. it was for us. it was a warning. they are trying to remind us who is really in control.

a minor headcanon that I will die defending is that reigen initially assumed that mob’s supposed “psychic powers” were just how he rationalized his autism to himself. like here’s an obviously autistic kid, one reigen clocks immediately because he’s, well, reigen, and he’s talking about extra sensory perception and having powers he can’t control, powers that are scary. obviously, he assumes, this is something the kid picked up from his parents, a way for him to rationalize his alienation from other children— that no, you’re not “different”, you’re special (not even going into the parents who think their autistic children are like, aliens) and the other kids can see that you’re special and so they treat you like you’re weird and creepy and they don’t invite you to play and they whisper behind your back but it’s fine, because one day they’ll see how special you really are. and adult autistic reigen arataka, who was also probably-definitely bullied as a child, decides to nip that thought in the bud and gives the whole spiel, that no, “psychic powers” (autism) don’t make you special, and yes, they do make you different, and that’s fine because everyone’s different, and at the end of the day you have agency and you get to decide the kind of person you’ll be, so choose to be a kind one, and he sees this kid hanging off his every word as he tells him the kind of stuff he wishes someone had told him when he was so little and alone, and he mentally pats himself on the back and hypes himself up for another cigarette.

and then the kid makes a teacup float in front of him and he’s like oh. damn. can you kill ghosts
