i swear, rub n buff is a unique kind of magic that i wish more cosplayers used! i've used it for propmaking as well and the color stays on and doesn't leave for anything, not even after heavy use. rub n buff i love you rub n buff my best friend
Yeah, especially after my spray paint job went wonky, I am ready to sing the praises of the Rub'n Buff. I had it in mind as a back up plan but honestly it should have been my go-to -- it even looks significantly more like metal, especially when paired with the thinness of the HDPE sheets I used for the armor versus say craft foam. The only thing is it's going to absolutely kill my arms to buff 23 pieces of armor, but it's worth it for the look.
Honestly this cosplay has been an object lesson in trying out methods that aren't exactly the "normal" or "popular" way of doing things in thr cosplay community. Making my armor out of something other than craft foam was absolutely the right choice for me, and now doing something less conventional for the finish is turning out great. I get why certain methods and tutorials get popular, but experimenting with other things is still really worth it sometimes!
