I am MOTIVATED to work on lore today. alrighty. first struggle: picking an aesthetic clan name that fits better than ‘clan’ for traveling, merchant-heavy group of interconnected community spread across several different locations…that isn’t too flight specific, either. Hrrrm.

hey so i recently became co-gm for a fallen london ttrpg group, the conceit is that there's like 20-ish players and they're all members of the ministry of public decency. each week a mission gets put up and people can choose to apply to it (hence the high player count. its worked out fantastically for us but im aware its unorthodox).
for my first mission i wanna run something that you can just explore in a single three-to-four hour session, sort of episodic. do you have any ideas for things in the lore that'd be good for that sort of setup? my first idea was doing something with the spider symposium, i just think its really cool worldbuilding- but im very much open to other ideas!!
(also while they're technically part of the ministry of public decency it doesnt really have to be strictly within that line of work, we've done all sorts of things in the past)
hmmm, off the top of my head:
nefarious cat politics (with optional snake involvement, but really, cat politics by itself could be fun)
anything to do with the neathbow (irrigo is the most popular color, but you can never go wrong with any of the others)
the island where undelivered mail (no elaboration needed)
the island where snails (still no elaboration needed)
the city where mirrors (yet still no elaboration needed)
the island where screaming (polythreme. this one is polythreme.)
most ports in sunless seas would actually work for this ngl. they've got that episodic charm
anything to do with the dawn machine (a very brief anything, mind you! maybe the new sequence is causing trouble, who knows)
a top-secret mission to scritch mr fires behind the ears (joke suggestion. don't actually do this one)
the disease that sets you on fire if you have too many feelings (good for drama)
blemmigans
prisoners honey, and its far more sinister red variant (always a classic!)
anything to do with the captivating princess (gaslighter gatekeeper girlbosser)
anything to do with the rats (i just think they're neat)
escaped hellworm (escaped hellworm)
aside from those there's the spider symposium (as you mentioned) and you can always take pages out of the official TRPG quickstart's book if you need even more ideas! the in-game candlefinders adventures are also really good prompts in of themselves, you could totally take notes and adapt them to fit the session. feel free (and encouraged!) to mix/match concepts as needed. hope this helps ^w^

The more I rotate my FLPC the more I realize
It is not making it out of this.
Probably
What I, externally, want to happen is victory. They do the impossible (is there such a thing down there?) and save the world (what world? how much of it? at what cost?)
What I, externally, feel needs to happen is earning it.
Which is one half "an excuse to gather treasures and complete stories", and one half "an explanation for why someone would gather the Neath's treasures and do literally everything they can in the game, including SMEN"
Like my first goal setting out was The Hellworm. But now there's a character, there's lore. That worm acquisition isn't just for the funny expensive pet/mount. It's because something about it defies all sense, and in a way that seems dangerous to the powers that be. It can be milked for all sorts of things - how? Where is curator blood coming from?
We're going to need that. We're going to need to exploit the principals behind that.
And that's not enough. Draining the blood of curators, somehow, across space and perhaps time? Not enough!
The love of all the Neath. Armies, power akin to gods, immortality, a complete understanding of the principal nature of all things.
And even then? Is that enough?
Of course not.
This can only end in tragedy.

7. The ideal perfect dragon (scry ok!)
ouhh hard question... I think it's gotta be Reverie; my obelisk from the dustcarve dig event
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he's absolutely perfect with just the genes, but the accent really adds something to it. wasn't sure how I felt about his eye type/element at first, but it goes perfectly with the accent. even his name is perfect for him, and it was randomly generated :D W for the built-in flight rising name generator
19. What is your lair situation? (lore, gen 1, a mess, etc)
uhhhhhh 🙈 aspiring lore lair
I had lore, but at some point realized I didn't like it and started redoing it. so it's still a Huge work in progress and my lair is a complete mess rn
every day I grow more and more tempted to just throw everyone in the same tab and go back to ye olde days before the lair revamp (at least until I figure out my new lore situation). I might do that today actually now that I'm thinking about it

SO SHALL HE NEVER DIE
After about two fucking years of grinding in Fallen London, I finally accrued enough cash to buy some Hesperidean Cider. I have drank from it, and so shall Most Esteemed Sir Kale never die.
In the game itself, this amounts to very little, aside from the status symbol, but in the lore it is implied in several places that drinking Hesperidean Cider is the only thing that can allow someone who has died in the Neath to safely return to the Surface. My character has always dreamed of feeling the sun on his skin once again, eating real food, smelling real flowers, and walking the streets of a city not haunted by eldritch horrors. While he will forevermore remain a denizen of the Neath, I like to imagine that now he can finally visit the Surface from time to time, and that makes me very happy.
What next? Time to start grinding for a Hellworm, I guess!

seeing a lot of people in lore shares going with the 'multi-clan in one' idea and I love that. I think my lair is more of a multi-faction traveling clan, though. All considered one clan but not all in one place.
