Welcome to My Blog

Hello, My name is Rachael. I am not 100% sure what exactly I am supposed to be doing here. But I am a writer and the Writer’s Market told me that a good thing to do was make a blog. So, here I am. It is a way to help get noticed and market yourself which is what I am trying to do. I’ve been writing on and off for 16 years. I write a range of things but it mostly comes back to Dungeons and Dragons fantasy books. I read a lot of those types of books which is probably why it makes it so easy for me to come up with ideas. I don’t currently have anything out that has to do with that genre though. Instead, I am self published on Amazon for my books Tearing Down the Wall and The Sound Within. The Sound Within is a compilation of poetry I have written over the years. It is about love and depression. Sometimes even the will to survive. It is the pain I had felt and couldn’t talk about. Writing was my outlet and I want to share it with the world. Tearing Down the Wall: Adolescence is a book about my life from the years 9-19. It is about the abuse I went through in those years. How alone I felt. How I got my freedom back. I wrote it to help me but also to help other people. There are parts in that book to remind those in that position that they are not alone. Because a lot of times, victims forget that.

There is another book in the works going forward into more of what happened to me as an adult. I broke it into two books because your life can change a lot in a little time. Especially if you feel you are finally doing better. As well, I wanted to end the book on a good note, so people could feel how I felt when I got my freedom for the first time. I want to use this blog to reach people as well. I want to put my writing on here because I am hoping that it will fall into the right hands. Someone that may have never noticed my book and needs help can see this blog and feel like there is someone there with them. Thanks for reading :)

Putting myself out there and hoping for the best

What a wonderful day today was so I put my best foot forward and I saw someone that looked like they needed a friend so as they were leaving the building I said them aside and first asked if they were all right and we were able to have a conversation just the two of us and it was great she thanked me for taking the time out of the day for caring and we actually were able to talk about making potential plans and getting together in the future.  I was so proud of myself for being able to not only talk to her but to make her feel better about her situation and afterwards my boyfriend noticed that I had the conversation and told me that he was so proud of me for making that effort and that it really is amazing to watch all the positive things that are beginning to happen especially once you open yourself up to other people.

Friendship doesn't come with a rule book. There aren't a set of rules that you have to follow if you are a friend or have a friend. There is nothing that tells you that you have to do or not do something when it comes to friendship. It is your choice, and I think that is the most beautiful thing about it.

A friend helped me the other day by listening to some of the problems that I was trying to deal with. Nothing told her that she had to; there was not underlying consequences if she didn't help me. She chose to. She chose to listen to me. She chose to give advice. She chose to be there for me in a time of need. The thing that made this experience quite significant for me, was that when I tried to thank her, she said I didn't have to. But I did. I had to let her know how much I appreciated her act of friendship and kindness. Because that is the thing about friendship. Just because we are friends, it doesn't mean that she has to do anything for me. Even though there are societal structures in place that tell us what we should and shouldn't do, every action that we make is out of choice; there are laws but people still break them. I guess what I am trying to say is, that while friendship is built on expectations, there is nothing to say that those expectations should or will be met. My friend. My foster sister, because I still call her that even though we do not live together anymore, did not have to help me. She chose to and therefore I need to say thank you. Because even though we are friends, I never expect anything from her; the kindness that she showed me was a selfless and beautiful act that she didn't have to perform, and that's what makes it truly special.

So if you have a friend, who helps you or is just there, thank them because they don't have to be there. They chose to and that's what true friendship is all about.
