i don't actually think maisie loved being in japan for like, first 6 months she had moved there minimum LOL. like some parts were fun and she was excited and it was a nice change of pace! but the entire move was not a good idea and she knew it.

she was in the midst of grieving and pm moved to run away from her problems and get a new change of pace to shock her out of her slump! neither of which happened. like yeah sometimes she was too busy to be worried about her problems but she could do that back home too. if anything her problems just got worse bc then she was thousands of miles away from and in the opposite timezone from her entire support system LOL.

she was fairly established where she was and definitely would have had an easier time healing (or being able to heal at all really without waiting a couple extra years) BUT she was hyperfocused on moving and put her blinders on to Rationality

the first year was kind of wobbly and for the majority of it she was highly considering moving back once her work contract expired. even after meeting and starting to date ichi she was just not settled enough and she was homesick...

now she's settled and happy and has a sexy husband though so it all worked out ☝️
