In the midst of all the clueless masses of people gawking at Nexus’ latest feats, Darren stood alone -- not particularly intrested in the event, just keeping watch like he was assigned to. It wasn’t th most fun of assignments but it beat being in the field chasing someone. Leaning against one of the nearby booths, he sees someone approach him asking questions about the device. “Sorry, I’m just working the event -- I have no clue what any of this junk is.”

Päivi has barely made it a few steps in when her hands are already overflowing with leaflets. She tries to glance through all of them but finds herself standing in the way of other people repeatedly, making it hard to concentrate. Her flatmate Camila has vanished, probably to meet some important people Päivi doesn't know. She should have researched the program in advance, Päivi realizes, but she hasn't been good at that sort of thing recently. So she glances up at the person next to her: “Now where do I start? Any....anything in particular that must not be missed?”

Now that he’s here, Joseph... really doesn’t remember why he thought it was a good idea to come. Not that, like, it’s a bad idea in terms of “Oh, I’m going to get in trouble”, but a bad idea in terms of “There is nothing to do here...” He’s a whole three inches shorter, and that’s probably the worst part of shapeshifting for Joseph. He hates getting shorter. Really don’t wanna be here right now, he huffs out under his breath, holding his can of Brisk a little tighter. Not that that’s how his identity would act, but.

Carmen doesn’t have any trouble finding Erica in the crowd, but that’s mostly because of old ties and being around each other for, like, a decade plus. Although, maybe even a wig wouldn’t have been able to deter her. Who knows. She hovers by Erica’s side and taps her on the shoulder to get her attention. You think if maybe we stand next to each other suspiciously for an extended amount of time, someone will finally figure out that we’re not supposed to be here? She chuckles under her breath, Of course, I probably shouldn’t say that because it’ll jinx things, not that I wholeheartedly believe in that. Overall, their chances are probably... pretty good at not getting caught. Carmen’s the one who almost ruined the party last time, so she’s the one that Nexus is more, in a way, aware of. Which is either good or bad, depending on the spin she puts on things. Nice sunglasses, by the way.

Wearing sunglasses and carrying a water bottle in order to create even more of an impression of someone frail worred about her health, Erica pushes her way through the crowds. She is stuck with her colleague’s name for the day, but at least that allows her to advance in her quest for keeping tabs on what those presenting have found out about ability mechanisms. She is just examining a hearing aid based on enhanced hearing (which leaves her puzzled, because there goes her theory on it all being chemical...or does this have chemicals in it to make it work?) when she takes a step backwards and bumps into somebody. Erica turns around and gives the sheepiest grin she can manage: “Sorry”. Then she waves the hearing aid: “Too fascinating, all that stuff here.”

Many people from PR told Peter he should have a Twitter to help with his public image and likability so he reluctantly got one. Though it’s really funny because @PeterPetrelli was taken so he’s stuck with @Peter_Petrelli. He tweets on every holiday and sometimes those fake deep inspirational motivation quotes. Everything else are retweets of PROTECT’s stuff or other co-workers (especially johanna--maxwell‘s tweets) and post-human related news.

Sylar stood in front of the building thinking of what he was actually doing there. He really didn’t want to go inside, because he really wasn’t interested. Maybe he could just go inside and do nothing at all. At least he’ll have proof that he has actually been there. He took his phone and looked at the schedule. He slowly walked towards the entrance and suddenly he bumped into someone. “Sorry.” He said quickly putting away his phone. “Was looking at the schedule.”

Jon chuckles softly into the mic. “You guys know how our events usually goes. Some one always has to give a boring speech before the fun starts. Don’t worry I’ll keep it short so you all can get your money’s worth.”

“Welcome to the first big press conference for Post-Human related innovations sponsored by your very own Nexus Corporations. I see some people flinching at our name but trust me, this day is much bigger than just us. This is about progress and all that good stuff that’s printed on your brochure/itineraries. Those are glossy and printed in full color by the way so please read those. They were expensive.” He pointed over to the tables by the entrances and free light refreshments with brochures spread out on top. 

“A lot of people are going to be selling you guys a lot of things today but I hope you will come out of this sold on our goal to empower both post humans and every day average joes like-- Well not like me but other average joes. Now that I name dropped the word empower into the speech like I’m supposed to, you’re all welcomed to roam free and update Instagram full of photos of the free food. Please enjoy your time here.

Say goodbye to the tattoos

“A long while ago a mysterious bracelet was found. As we announced before this is indeed something Nexus made. Now comes time for us to share the news about this innovation. 

We have monitored many talks and debates concerning the Post-Human situation right here in New York. The Post-human Identification Tattoos (PIT) are too demeaning. Too brutal. And on top of it all unnecessary. As the ones who made the serum to temporarily nullify abilities so the tattoos could be administrated by our good friends at PROTECT, we agree with all these sentiments. 

That’s why we and many other politicians are urging for the removal of the PIT and move towards something that doesn’t treat people like branded cattle. That’s where the bracelets come in. Though they are unnamed right now due to their premature release, we have worked through the prototypes and have begun making models that are fit for public circulation. 

What are these bracelets you ask?

This is a band that will act as a phone. For those who are not afraid of wearable technology, this is the future. With the built in projector on this thing you can project a phone screen onto your arm and use it as you would with any other touch screen. Phone calls and listening to music will require external headphones and bluetooths if you don’t prefer the speakers.

Now how does this tie into the post-human situation? 

Simple. These are made specifically with post-humans in mind. For those who are already registered and have the PIT, we will begin removing them and giving you a bracelet instead. For those who are not registered but wish to do so soon, you too will get a bracelet. Each of these bracelets are designed to be accessible to the owner that they are registered to only. If you are not a registered post-human, the bracelet will not turn on for you.

As with the PIT, this bracelet will also monitor your heart rate. Seeing as how the constant monitoring from the PITs factors into the dehumanizing aspect, post-humans will not be forced to wear these at all times. ( We will take this time to mention that they are waterproof so you can wear them all the time if you want to. ) If the bracelets ever pick up a distress signal showing that you may be at risk, a representative will call you through the bracelet. But the point is to put post-humans themselves in control and make them responsible for their own abilities. 

Since this news is coming out much earlier than intended, we hope that this will urge those to vote in favor of the policy that will free you of being branded and put under surveillance. The future is here and we are here to help you become empowered.“

Move past 20/20 vision...

Using research based on those post-humans who have been blessed with enhanced vision (EV), the development for eye lenses that increases one’s seeing abilities far past any lasik surgery. At the core of this development is a very basic understanding of one type of EV, but even with just that, prospects of giving humans three times the average 20/20 vision have become very real. Because these lenses will never decay, those who get these surgically implanted in will never develop cataracts. The goal now is to keep expanding research so that possibly within the next few years, eye contact lenses that will also allow people to see microscopic things, see through walls, or even various types of light within the electromagnetic spectrum.

Drugs aren’t the future of medicine — tiny electric implants are

There has been many fundings for different ways to control one’s post-human abilities. Fundings for more classes, specialized doctors, and coaches but some people want a quicker approach that will give them more control. They want to be able to tame their abilities with something that’s as easy as a press of a button. Pharmaceutical companies have invested in drugs, and some have even dangerously leaked out, but simply put they haven’t produced steady results and that’s a concern. 

Bioelectronics is the wave of the future. 

Some researchers believe electronic implants that hack the nervous system will one day replace drugs for many conditions. In the early years of development we have still had little understandings of how the body’s electrical language and nervous system worked. One thing we did know that if we could learn this language, it’d unlock the doors to gaining more control of our bodies. That’s where we turned to those with Neurokinesis to help further our research.

Now imagine a pyrokinetic losing control of his temper and his hands start to flare up. On a normal basis, maybe he’ll calm down and the fire will subside. Or maybe, he continues to become enraged and loses control. Research shows that scenarios where abilities and emotions are closely linked and people lack control over the two, chances are that the latter will happen. 

With these implants that will be custom tailored to deliver special electric impulses to temporarily mute powers to avoid situations like these. The dream is to deliver precise, targeted therapy to groups of cells to promote the release of the body’s natural hormone or immune responses, dial down over-production of cells, or deploy other types of therapy, such as releasing implanted drugs at certain times and doses.

The first premiere expo for all Post-Human related advancements made. At the Nexus Expo ( shortened to Nexpo ) the brightest and most innovative minds will meet here in NYC for three days to share and showcase their contributions to the push for progress and empowerment for everybody. Both long time experts and first time amateur enthusiasts are all welcomed to attend. Nexus hopes this will open the door to more collaborations and innovations in the field of Post Human abilities. Nexpo will help you become empowered.

OOC Notes for characters who are attending:

NEXUS members all get free entrance to the expo. Everybody will alternate from working patrol shifts and being regular attendees with VIP access.

Attendees must be registered in order to gain access to the expo passes and wristbands. ( This is a safety measure to keep out unwanted guests. ROGUES please take note of this. If you want to get into the expo, you’re going to have to get creative. )

PROTECT members are invited to the expo as long as they have their employee IDs.

For non attendees:

For this event it is possible for characters to not attend the expo but still participate. The expo will be livestreamed so anybody can catch all the announcements and such from the comforts of their own home or from the respective headquarter locations.

Specifically for this event, Nexus has launched a big social media campaign. There will be an open post on the main that’ll act as the Nexus’ main Twitter and you can leave as many replies or reblog it with Twitter replies. ++ You may also have your own Twitter threads if you want. johanna--maxwell will be running PROTECT’s Twitter page during this time so you may tweet to her too if you want.

Other notes:

Since the expo will feature many research discoveries and technology innovations, if you wanted to send in some suggestions or ideas of what can be showcased that’d be well appreciated! Anything that deals with Post-Humans or are inspired by Post-Humans are acceptable. ( Example: Someone adapting research about people with Chromakinesis/Color Manipulation to make better camouflage gear for the army. ) Keep in mind that all these showcasers are picked by Nexus themselves.
