Supporting Character Supplemental - HERBIE

H.E.R.B.I.E. (or Highly Engineered Robot Built for Interdimensional Exploration) is a sophisticated a robot possessing advanced artificial intelligence designed and built by Dr. Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four. HERBIE was initially created with the assistance of Master Xar of the Xandarians for the purposes of tracking the cosmic entity known as Galactus.  

Afterward, HERBIE continued on as an ally to The Fantastic Four and accompanied the team on a number of adventures. The android has acted as a  protector and caregiver to both Franklin and Valeria Richards and has also been a lab assistant to Dr. Richards.

There have been multiple iterations of HERBIE and Richards later created a dozen extra HERBIEs to keep an eye on the students of The Future Foundation when the Fantastic Four ventured out into space.  One of these HERBIEs would later become an ally of the young heroine, Moon Girl.  

HERBIE debuted in a Fantastic Four animated series, the android’s first comic book appearance was in the pages of  Fantastic Four Vol. 1 #209 (1979).
