As for those who believe and whose descendants follow them in faith, We will elevate their descendants to their rank, never discounting anything ˹of the reward˺ of their deeds. Every person will reap only what they sowed.[1]

🌙 Fasting on Ashura – A Day of Victory & Forgiveness
When the Prophet ﷺ arrived in Madinah, he found the Jews fasting on the 10th of Muharram (Ashura), saying: "This is the day when Musa (AS) triumphed over Pharaoh." The Prophet ﷺ said: “We have more right to Musa than they do,” and he encouraged Muslims to fast on this day. 📖 Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 6, Book 65, Hadith 4682
He also said: “Fasting on the Day of Ashura, I hope, will expiate the sins of the previous year.” 📖 Sahih Muslim
🌟 Ashura falls on Saturday, 5 July 2025 It is Sunnah to fast on the 9th and 10th or 10th and 11th

Celebrate Allah’s Greatness with Ramadan 2018
For billions of Muslims around the world, the Holy month of Ramadan is a time for fasting, praying and charity. It is also a month where they need to follow a strict schedule too. One of the biggest challenges is to keep up with the ever-changing times of the dawn, sunset and the prayers. Thanks to their smart phones, they can now keep track of everything during this Ramadan. Yes, we are talking about specific apps that have been developed for Ramadan.
One of the most popular apps going around is the Ramadan 2018 App. It won’t be wrong to state that it is a treasure house of information for any Muslim. You want to see at the countdown to the Ramadan festival, all that it takes is a few seconds with the app and you will get it. While it is relatively easy to keep track of dates and timings of certain other things, it becomes a lot more difficult during the Ramadan period. This is because the timings of the sunset and sunrise differ from day to day. This is where the Ramadan android app will come in handy.
After the traditional fasting for the whole day, families gather at the sunset for what is known as the ‘Iftaar’. Now with the help of your Ramadan 2018 you can keep alarm alerts and be ready to have your meals, wherever you are. Similarly, the app also gives you alarm alerts before the pre-dawn ‘Suhour’ meals too.
In recent times, after the advent of the Smartphone, an entire industry has grown around apps meant for Ramadan. It is however not surprising given the huge population of Muslims around the world and the modern-day lifestyle, which demands that technology is used for observing the rituals that have been now carried on for 1400 years.
Given this scenario, it is not surprising that the Ramadan app is counted among the most downloaded in the world. The good news is that the entire process to download the app and install it in a smartphone is also very simple. In fact, anyone can do it with ease. Now you can set fasting schedules in over 250 countries, thanks to the app.
The app also helps you keep track of the Hijri Calendar. You can use the Islamic date converter option in the app to find out the number of days left for Ramadan.
Ramadan as we have seen is also primarily about offering prayers to the Almighty. Remembering prayer times is therefore important and you can now depend on the app to keep reminding you. Imagine you are out on the streets on work and there is no mosque near you to offer prayers. What do you do in such a scenario? Thanks to the apps, Qibla Compass, you can now find out the direction of the Holy City of Mecca and offer your prayers, wherever you are.
So, if you are a believer, then you cannot be without the Ramadan 2018 app. While you spend your time in deep spiritual concentration, the app can take care of all other aspects, from offering you reminders to helping you learn Quran verses.

Ever wondered how the Muslim calendar started? How the months were derived and why it was actually composed like how it is now? Did you know that it was another reason that strengthen the unity of Islam? Ma sha Allah. Like the event of choosing the Adhaan, the choosing and deciding of making the Muslim calendar went through same process, the Companions Radiyallahu Anhum also went thorough study about this, they also suggested similar ways as other nations. Some companions Radiyallahu Anhum suggested that it should be like the Roman calendar but then it was rejected due to the many reasons like it was too long and was filled with many events that were specific to other different nation. Then some suggested about the Persian calendar but then again the idea was rejected because with Persians every time a new king was put into the throne, their previous dating would be abolished. That is why, 'Umar Ibn Al Khattab Radiyallahu Anhu based the Muslim calendar on the Hijrah (migration) of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam. Hence making him the first person to number the Muslim calendar. _____ But then, the basing of when it started was again a discussion, Ibn. Hajr Rahimahullah said: 'Umar consulted the companions about dating the Muslim calendar, they found that they could base the beginning of their calendar on four events: the birthdate of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam, the month and year during the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasssalaam first received revelation, the migration of the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam and the month and year during which the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wasssalaam passed away. Yet the Muslims would disagree about the exact date of the Prophet's birth and of the first Time the Prophet received revelation, also they didn't want to base their calendar on the date of the Prophet's death, since it would only arouse feelings of sadness and pain. So it was only the Hijra that remained. _____ Indeed through this simple act of establishing a unique Muslim calendar, 'Umar helped promote further unity among the Muslims. Muslims were already united by a single religion; by a bond of brotherhood- a bond that took only faith into consideration, and not other factors such as skin color, race or lineage. They were united by a single Qiblah, the direction they all faced during Prayer, no matter where they were on earth- and now they were also united by the same calendar, by the same means by which they would record the events of their collective and proud history. Allahu'akbar. About the Muharram being the first month, Ibn Hajar Rahimahullah further says: "They agreed upon Muharram instead of Rabi'ul-Awwal because the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam first made a firm resolve to migrate to Madinah in the month of Muharram. The second pledge of Al-'Aqabah took place in Dhul-Hijjah, which represented the first stage of the Prophet's migration. After the second pledge of Al-'Aqabah took place, and after the PropheT Sallallahu Alaihi Wassalaam made a firm resolve to migrate to Madinah, the first new moon that appeared was the new moon of Muharram, thus making Muharram the appropriate first month of the Muslim calendar." _____ May we become great holders of historical triumphs of Islam, that in our hearts these great events that happened in the Muslim history and world history will continue to live in our heart even if written history couldn't give justice to it, but like how the ahadith survived, let our Muslim historical events shine through our lives. Amin Zohayma _____ Al Mustadrak, Al Hakim: 3/14 Note: This is part of the collection of Golden Stories of the Sahabah Stories, which narrates and shares the amazing stories of the Sahabah Radiyallahu Anhum as taken from excerpts of their lives.
