"someone bagged the rockstar" a han jisung oneshot by @cosmicalily
"someone ran homе empty handed, someone bagged the rockstar. but how sweet, sweet, sweet it'd be, be, be, just to dream, dream, dream, next to me." - 'sweet to dream' by tv girl & jordana
author's note: "guys i'm gonna be inactive" okay so why are your pants on fire lily? warnings: implied sex (no actual smut, you nasties), making out, mentions of alcohol
Tumblr media
You woke up with Jisung’s bare chest pressed tight to your back. “Whore,” you’d mumbled under your breath, letting your eyes and hands wander down his arms. Tattoos littered his chest and collarbone, ones you hadn’t noticed in your frenzied state last night. It was strange seeing them on his skin; physical memories he’d chosen to have needled onto him, maybe for fear of forgetting.
“You got it,” a sleepy voice murmured, warm arms slipping around your waist. He nuzzled his head into your shoulder, and you breathed in his scent. It was musky, with a mix of aftershave and your pomegranate perfume.
You let your finger trace the tattoos littering his torso. He didn’t seem to care; he simply watched you outline each drawing, each piece of him.
You’d never gotten tattoos, nor did you ever feel inclined to. You thought they were meaningless, permanent sketches on someone’s skin.
You suddenly got the desire to cover yourself in delicately traced ink, linking all the parts together that were important to you. It was a quick thought; it came and passed.
“You like them?”
“They’re pretty.”
“I’ll get one for you next,” Jisung yawned, pulling your body flush against his again. “What do you want? Or do you want to sketch it yourself?”
“So are all these tattoos of other girls you’ve taken home?” you teased, pushing his hair out of his face.
Jisung pouted. “I’m not that whoreish. As a matter of fact, I haven’t gotten a tattoo for a single girl. Except for my mom.” He shifted his body slightly to show a small magnolia on his hip bone.
“I didn’t take you for a ‘gets a tattoo for his mom’ kind of guy,” you giggled.
“Yeah, well, I didn’t take you for a ‘goes home with a guy she’s known for barely a day’ kind of girl.”
You wrinkled your nose a little. You didn’t take yourself for that kind of girl either, but here you were. And it wasn’t like you regretted your decisions either, though you were beginning to regret that final round of beer pong. Of course Jeongin’s terrible coordination had only worked in his favour when alcohol was involved.
Oh well. Maybe it was worth it. You’d ended up with a pretty boy, his arms around your waist, pressing kisses into your shoulder.
You could be in worse situations.
Your dark hair was in a messy braid, one you remembered Jisung putting it in for you. Your makeup was on his pillowcase, and your eyeliner smudged. You hadn’t brushed your teeth, and your mouth still tasted like alcohol, sour gummy worms, and him.
He didn’t care. He pulled you in by the nape of your neck, just like you’d remembered he had before you’d fallen asleep, and pressed a soft kiss onto your lips.
It wasn’t worth it, was it?
He wasn’t going to stay.
They were on tour.
He’d leave you behind.
Your mind clearly didn’t comprehend these thoughts. You found yourself kissing back, running your tongue over his bottom lip.
His fingers played with the soft hairs at the back of your neck.
You’d known him all of twenty-four hours.
He was barely doing anything. His kisses were soft and sweet, occasionally accompanied with a soft mumble of incoherent words against the lips. You shoved your face into his shoulder, and he continued pressing kisses into your collarbone.
It was the way he could so easily make you fall for him,
Even though you knew that tomorrow, he might not be there.
You pulled away from him, and Jisung stared at you in confusion, lips glossy, eyes wide.
“Do you want me to stop?” he asked, looking at you worriedly. “I’m sorry. It’s probably too much. If you want to go home now, you can. I can drive you home or walk you or you could go by yourself if you don’t want me to-”
“No, it’s not that. Can I draw my tattoo on you?”
His eyes softened and he nodded excitedly. He rolled over, his lower body tangled in the sheets, and retrieved a Sharpie from somewhere beside his bed. You didn’t question why it might be there. You didn’t question a lot of things about him.
He laid down on his back, and you sat down on his lower stomach, hair falling in your eyes as you drew a design on his collarbone. You weren’t exactly sure what it was initially, but Jisung encouraged you to just sketch whatever came to mind. So you did.
A black cat, a pair of cherries. A small guitar pick.
As the black marker outlined illustrations on Jisung’s skin, he stared up at you, eyes full of stars.
Oh, there weren’t even words to describe how mesmerising you were to him. As he took you in, all of you, his heart would beat a little faster. And those lyrics he’d write frantically in his notebook, the words that would melt off his tongue so seamlessly when he sang?
Gone. Traceless when you were within some kind, any kind of proximity.
You did all that to him, something so intentionless. In the way you breathed, the way your bangs fell in front of your eyes no matter how many times you tucked them back agitatedly. In the way you bit your lip in concentration as you traced and coloured and dotted, until at last, you were satisfied.
Once the cap was on the Sharpie, Jisung gently but firmly tugged your body down on top of his, hands resting on your hips.
“You should come with me,” he mumbled into your ear. “On tour.”
You’d known Han Jisung for all of twenty-four hours,
And yet you found yourself answering him with a kiss.

I'm sure #Billy Joel didn't write his new song with #GoodOmens in mind, but as a fan, I hear this as #Aziracrow coded. Imagine #Aziraphale saying these words to #Crowley in S3. The longing for forgiveness, the hope that it's not too late. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hexZ5hwia08
Billy Joel, Turn the Lights Back On
Please open the door
Nothing is different, we've been here before
Pacing these halls
Trying to talk over the silence
And pride sticks out its tongue
Laughs at the portrait that we've become
Stuck in a frame, unable to change
I was wrong
[Chorus]
I'm late, but I'm here right now
Though I used to be romantic
I forgot somehow
Time can make you blind
But I see you now
As we're laying in the darkness
Did I wait too long
To turn the lights back on?
[Verse 2]
Herе, stuck on a hill
Outsiders inside the homе that we built
The cold settles in
It's been a long winter of indifference
And maybe you love me, maybe you don't
Maybe you'll learn to, maybe you won't
You've had enough, but I won't give up
On you
[Chorus]
I'm late, but I'm here right now
And I'm tryin' to find the magic
That we lost somehow
Maybe I was blind
But I see you now
As we're laying in the darkness
Did I wait too long
To turn the lights back on?
I'm late, but I'm here right now
Is there still time for forgiveness?
Won't you tell me how?
I can't read your mind
But I see you now
As we're layin' in the darkness
Did I wait too long
To turn the lights back on?
[Outro]
I'm here right now
Yes, I'm here right now
Looking for forgiveness
I can see as we're laying in the darkness
Yeah, as we're laying in the darkness
Did I wait too long
To turn the lights back on?

(italics are lyrics from this song)
====
Jay was a ghost, stuck to haunt his only friend he had at the end of his life. He was stuck to Tim after he died, and had to watch everything happen. Tim had… he lost everything, and it was clear he didn't care anymore in his actions.
Fighting Alex, calling out for a fight, the stalking.
Recording everything, and uploading it — if not just for Jay's memory. It made his dead heart squeeze with emotion.
Tim got into the last, real fight with Alex. Jay's spirit cheered him on as Tim stabbed him over and over again, making his body and face unrecognizable as blood got everywhere. He had limped out of the room, before falling and collapsing onto some stairs.
You can't believe that you're still here.
It was clear Tim was expecting to die when he confronted Alex. But he didn't. The blood was flaking on his skin when he woke up, and Jay was by his side the whole time. Jay never realized how quiet Tim really was. Jay was always doing something in the hotel rooms — talking outloud, walking and pacing, working on a new video, typing on the keyboard or messing with the camera.
But now, as a ghost, unable to do anything or say anything… it was quieter than Jay liked. Tim was at least playing his banjo or ukulele when he was waiting for Alex to make a move, but now… he just sits and stares at the walls now, or watches a clock tick by.
You're lost to time,  You keep counting, waiting, For the chance I come back.
Jay talks to Tim, even as a ghost, even if he can't hear it. He says so much he never said when he could have — and a lot of it is apologies. After all, it was Jay's fault, Tim would have been fine without Jay forcing himself back into his life.
Jay hugs Tim a lot now, too. The other can't feel it, but… it's a mock comfort Jay can have now. Wiping away Tim's tears when it's late at night. Even if it doesn't matter, Jay's still there, in a false sense of comfort neither of them could feel.
As you lie there all alone, You listen for my voice, Although I'm not quite there.
It's been a few weeks since Alex died. A few weeks since Jay's been haunting Tim unwillingly. A few weeks since Tim lost everything.
Tim spent a lot of his time sitting in bed, sleeping or just laying there. As more and more days pass, he doesn't do anything to help himself. He only leaves when the hunger pains get too much.
"C'mon, Tim, you need to get up," Jay muttered. It's been who knows how long since Tim last ate, again. "You need food. You can't keep going like this."
Tim simply turned over, now laying on his side, looking at the peeling wallpaper. Jay sighs, sitting on the bed which doesn't react at all to him. His hand falls onto Tim's shoulder, as he silently begged the man to be able to get up and do something.
We can't heal еvery wound, So let it bleed.
It's been two months since Jay had died. Maybe more. Time was hard to tell, now, when so many of the days blurred together.
Tim had actually left the house yesterday, and found Jessica, who was still alive. Tim promised her he would meet up again soon, to discuss the side effects of this sickness and to recommend a doctor for her.
It… God, it was nice seeing Tim happy (even somewhat) again. Jay missed his smile.
You want me back, I want you homе.
Jay hopes that with the introduction of Jessica back in Tim's life, he can start to heal, and get better again. That he can move on, confide in her, help her when she's struggling and she could help him.
Jay hopes that Tim could start to live his regular life again, the one from before Jay came back for the first time so many years ago. Jay wants what's best for Tim, even if he has to continue watching as a silent spector. Jay wants Tim to be happy again.
So cut the link, between you and me.

I'm so normal about Chalk Tablet Towers by Gorillaz. I'm so completely normal about how if you switch the perspective, you can turn it into a story about the original narrator's loved one trying to reassure them in rehab to not give in to self destructive tendencies.
Or if you want it to be even more depressing, the loved one reminiscing on what they should have said to prevent the narrator from dying.
I love the original lyrics and how well the isolation of the song is written. At the same time, I think there's something so painfully beautiful about the idea of the narrator feeling shame and like they have to isolate themself for being in rehab. Then, the loved ones' perspective works as a response to this.
No, the narrator doesn't actually want to hurt themself. They want to come home. If they leave, they aren't just hurting themself. No, the narrator does not need to worry about everyone abandoning them. The loved one still cares for them regardless of their mental state, and they say this in a way where the loved one feels it should be obvious how much they care.
So many times in media and writing, characters struggling are often depicted as all alone and only able to help themselves. While it is true that it is ultimately up to the person struggling to make the choice to save themself, I think the reminder that there are still people there to support them is important. It gives some hope.
I love call and response songs (To Binge and Souk Eye or the English and Spanish versions of Latin Simone for example), and I love the idea that even if two characters aren't communicating face to face, they're still trying to speak to one another, which is what I feel when switching the perspective on Chalk Tablet Towers.
I'll attach the og lyrics with my own response lyrics below here. There really isn't much change, but I feel like the differences in how the narrators feel is important.
My own:
Chalk tablet towers like drawing shadows
Chemical distraction, you are not with me
You departed in the spring to a distant star
But you could not get back, you had gone too far (oh-oh-oh-oh)
You wanna get drunk?
You wanna get stoned?
You wanna give up?
You wanna come ho-o-o-ome.
Watching rockets take off
From the parting sea
How will I ever touch you
If you are not with me? (oh-oh-oh-oh, out here)
There's only silence (out there)
No form of contact (out here)
You am dreaming
Looking into the darkness (oh-oh-oh-oh)
Home (Home)
Home (Home)
Home (Homе)
Home (Home)
Home (Homе)
Home (Home)
Home (Home)
Home (Home)
You say you won't be back 'til the end of summer
Y'know I'll still be here.
I won't give up on you, darling
You know that I care
I don't need no trophies
No cell with a view
There's nothing I wouldn't give
One minute with you, ooh, ooh, ooh-ooh
You, ooh, ooh, ooh-ooh
You, ooh, ooh, ooh-ooh
Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh
Original:
Chalk tablet towers like drawing shadows
Chemical distraction, you are not with me

But I could not get back, I had gone too far (oh-oh-oh-oh)

One minute with you, ooh, ooh, ooh-ooh
You, ooh, ooh, ooh-ooh
You, ooh, ooh, ooh-ooh

Alright, thanks for coming to my not so eloquently written Ted talk.

Simone Simons ➢ Dark Night of the Soul
Tumblr media
[Verse 1] Stars shining above me Wait for my soul Free me, so you can take me home Light of my heart That once burned so brightly Will need to die and be revived
[Chorus] Dark night of the soul Moments reigned by fears All the tears that I have been hiding fall on me Dark night of the soul I have walked alone From the mountains to the valley of my dreams When I close my eyes
[Verse 2] My soul has the answers Secrets untold They play a mournful melody I feel in my bones It's time to go homе Cast off the weight that held mе down
[Chorus] Dark night of the soul Moments reigned by fears All the tears that I have been hiding fall on me Dark night of the soul I have walked alone From the mountains to the valley of my dreams When I close my eyes

Songs are often not about just one thing I'm not saying I have a deep spiritual connection with Billy Joel that no one else does, but I do have a good track record at understanding the meaning of Billy Joel songs, even when they're widely misunderstood (because I have a deep spiritual connection with him that no one else does) and I think at least to some extent Turn the Lights Back On is about his music.
[Verse 1] Please open the door Nothing is different, we've been here before
The door to the recording studio perhaps... it's also less literal, just opening something back up. It's something familiar! He knows about writing lyrics and recording songs. It's this reassurance that he remembers, that it isn't new.
Pacing these halls Trying to talk over the silence
Silence... from the lack of music.
And pride sticks out its tongue Laughs at the portrait that we've become
Pride could refer to a lot of things, but it's certainly a feeling that can go with creativity. Taking pride in his work... In some ways he has become a portrait of himself. He's been playing music that reflects who he was thirty forty, fifty years ago.
Stuck in a frame, unable to change I was wrong
He hasn't changed, he's been playing, in his words, the same old shit. He thought he was done writing songs, that he had nowhere left to go artistically, but he was wrong.
[Chorus] I'm late, but I'm here right now
His last album was in 1993. He's also been touring and playing his residency for over ten years now, and he hasn't released any new music. People have asked, and he's always brushed them off. So maybe he's late. It's been a long time. But he's here now.
Though I used to be romantic I forgot somehow
He used to write a lot of love songs. He hasn't written any for a while, or any lyrics. He feels like he forgot how, or forgot what he liked about it. He's also used romance and being romantic as somewhat of a metaphor before.
Time can make you blind But I see you now As we're laying in the darkness
It's easy to forget how much you loved something when you haven't done it in so long, but he remembers now.
Did I wait too long To turn the lights back on?
He wonders if it's too late. After all, it's been decades, and he's turning 75 this year. Turning the lights back on evokes literally turning the lights on in a long empty room, like a recording studio, but also more generally suggest starting again, starting back up.
[Verse 2] Herе, stuck on a hill Outsiders inside the homе that we built
Maybe the hill is an obstacle, a thirty year bout of writer's block. Or maybe it's a peak. Maybe he hasn't written songs all these years because he felt like he'd already peaked creatively and there was nowhere left for him to go. He feels like an outsider in his own career now, because he's not writing. He's also influenced a lot of younger musicians, so maybe the home we built refers to that too.
The cold settles in It's been a long winter of indifference
He hasn't cared much about writing songs in a long time, but now he's starting to notice it feels like something is missing. The Genius annotation also tied this lyric to the early fall references in Famous Last Words. The teaser video showed him turning a page from Famous Last Words to Turn the Lights Back On so there's definitely some level of connection there. Famous Last Words was about feeling he had nothing left to say, but even then he left hanging the possibility of other words some other day. These are the words.
And maybe you love me, maybe you don't Maybe you'll learn to, maybe you won't
I think you here refers to both the personification of music--his muse--and the audience. Maybe his muse will be good to him, maybe not, maybe he'll get back in the swing of it, maybe not, this is new and he's trying. Maybe the audience will love his new music, maybe they won't like it and won't buy it. I think this also works in the reverse, where he's the second person. Maybe he realizes he loves songwriting again, or maybe he doesn't at first but he does with time, or maybe he doesn't and this song is it, just one experiment.
You've had enough, but I won't give up On you
He had previously had enough of writing songs, maybe his muse had had enough of him, but he's not giving up on doing this art.
[Chorus] I'm late, but I'm here right now And I'm tryin' to find the magic That we lost somehow
He wrote some really magic songs. As much as he claims lyrics are just what you have to write to sell songs, he wrote twelve albums worth of songs over twenty years, there must have been some magic in it for him. He lost that along the way and he's trying to rediscover it now.
Maybe I was blind But I see you now As we're laying in the darkness
He couldn't see what he liked about songwriting for a longtime, what the draw really was, but now, after all this time in the darkness not doing it, he sees it.
Did I wait too long To turn the lights back on? [Chorus] I'm late, but I'm here right now Is there still time for forgiveness? Won't you tell me how?
He's wondering if he still has a chance to go back. He's old, he's been away a long time. But he wants to figure it out.
I can't read your mind But I see you now
It's not easy to understand. Maybe it's his own mind he can't read, he can't understand where his creativity comes from or how to turn it on and off. But he sees that it's there.
As we're layin' in the darkness Did I wait too long To turn the lights back on? [Outro] I'm here right now Yes, I'm here right now Looking for forgiveness
He affirms that he's here now. Maybe the thing he's looking for forgiveness for is how negative he's been about the songwriting process, and how dismissive he's been about the idea of going back to it.
I can see as we're laying in the darkness Yeah, as we're laying in the darkness Did I wait too long To turn the lights back on?
Putting all of this in the context of his first new song in decades and the deliberate connection to Famous Last Words, which is also about his music, I think it makes sense. He's also done a lot of things in the last ten years or so that at one point he thought he was done doing: playing concerts, getting married, having children and now, writing songs. Or at least this song. It's about trying to find the lost spark in a relationship, not with a woman but with music. I think it does suggest the possibility of more music from him, although it's very far from a guarantee.
