GOOD GEAR TO GO – HAZARD4 SIDEWINDER
As the guys prepare to kit up to head out to Germany it made us realise that there’s one piece of kit that Bill has used constantly since he got it in 2015 both in-game and for EDC, and that’s the SIDEWINDER SLING PACK from HAZARD4. He told us... “A good few years ago I came across some great gear from US brand HAZARD4; the name is inspired by a standard threat-classification index: ‘1’ low, ‘2 & 3’ moderate, and ‘4’ deadly, and their gear is designed to be the last line of defence for its owner when things turn bad . Their parent company, Civilian Lab, has great experience in manufacturing top quality outdoor adventure, extreme sport, and travel gear in innovative configurations and forms, and as with many manufacturers these days the tactical community has lapped up their output. "Originally called the SWITCHBACK, the SIDEWINDER updates this classic EDC-design, and now this quality sling-pack has generous size to accommodate laptops in its padded retainer, yet is nimble enough to be rotated from back to chest. Common to all HAZARD4 sling-packs, such as the EVAC™ series, this ability gives on-the-go access to frequently used gear while carrying heavier loads on the back the rest of the time. It's also more secure in crowds and tight spaces since you can keep it in sight and access the entire pack close to your body, and an included but removable stabilizer strap keeps the bag from sliding forward. "The generously padded and ventilated main shoulder strap is also ergonomically cut for hours of comfortable wear per day, and it is covered in modular (MOLLE compatible) webbing to attach pouches for phones and the like at hand's reach. Generous side modular webbing provides lots of expansion options and the thermoformed best-in-class moulded back panel provides variable rigidity, air ventilation, and a durable surface. A drop-down fast access gear organizer can also hold an iPad-sized tablet like a shelf and the main compartment is lined in fuzzy loop for attaching hook-backing dividers, patches or HAZARD4 holsters. "Now I am going to put in a word of warning here that HAZARD4 gear is not the cheapest in the world, but it works very well indeed, is massively innovative, and makes use of the best design and components married up with superb construction methods. This little pack has travelled the airsoft world with me over the past nine years and has stood up to the abuse I’ve given it both when playing OPFOR roles and travelling internationally… and it’s all set again to head to IWA with me… again! "Mine originally came from www.military1st.co.uk and it has been a worthwhile companion for a considerable time, so although it wasn’t the cheapest bit of kit I’ve ever bought, you really are getting your money’s worth!" Clown Cat Crochet Pattern Listed Below!
Full disclaimer, this pattern has not been tested by anyone but me yet. I haven’t had the chance to make a second clown cat and take pictures of the process yet. I only have the pattern written for a bi-color hat and body for now but it would be pretty easy to convert to once color. Feel free to message me if you have questions about any part of the process and I can hopefully explain a little better! *instructions listed are specifically for a cat, but the ears, face, and tail can be altered to be a different animal. crochet the head as instructed below, embroider your desired face, and find a good pattern for ears you want. just make sure to use two strands of yarn and an H hook so the size isn’t off.
Materials: - 2 balls of yarn in chosen head color (white) - 1 ball of yarn in color A (½ main colors. I chose red) - 1 ball of yarn in color B (2/2 main colors. I chose yellow) - 1 ball of yarn in color C (1/1 accent colors. I chose blue) - Tiniest amount of yarn for nose (I used red for that classic clown nose look) - safety eyes (I used 12 mm, you can also embroider them or use buttons) - stuffing/wadding - H/size 8/5.00 mm hook - F/size 5/3.75 mm hook - bell (optional, for nose) - pompoms or buttons (optional, for body and hat decoration. I opted to make my own tiny pompoms because I didn’t want to buy any. Instructions are listed in this pattern) - embroidery thread (optional, I used thread to embroider eyelashes and mouth) - makeup or fabric paint + clean brush to apply (optional)
Abbreviations (US Crochet Terms): ch - chain sl - slip stitch sc - single crochet dc - double crochet inc - increase dec - decrease fo - finish off st - stitch
Special Terms/Techniques: Intarsia/Mosiac/Jacquard crochet - used for hat. Daisy Farm Crafts’ gingham blanket patterns explain the technique really well. Here’s a link! You have to scroll a bit to find the explanation. Popcorn/Bobble stitch - used to make pompoms on hat and body Ladder Stitch - Used to stitch parts together, join halves of body, and minor tailoring of the “hip” area.
Head (head color) x1:
*Use H hook **Head is worked using two strands of yarn at once
Worked in the round. Start with a magic ring

*dec* repeat 6 times (6). FO and stitch shut, leaving a long tail to attach head to body later.
Ears (head color) x2:
*Use H hook
**Ears are worked using two strands of yarn at once
Worked in the round. Start with a magic ring.

sc in each stitch (12). FO, leaving a long tail.
Flatten into triangle and stitch to top of head. I positioned the ears between row 3 & 4 of the head and sewed down the side.
Nose x1:
*use f hook from this point on **use one strand of thread at a time from this point on
Worked in the round. Start with a magic ring.
sc 6 in magic ring (6)
*sc inc in next stitch* repeat 6 times (12)

*dec* repeat 3 times (3). FO and stitch shut, leaving a long tail.
Sew one or two rows below the eyes, directly between them.

*sc inc* repeat 12 times. (24)
*sc inc* repeat 24 times (48). FO leaving a long tail.
Weave the end of color C towards the center of the hat, between the space where the hat ends and the ruffle begins. Sew the hat to the head, adding stuffing to the hat to make it stand. Pompom will be added later.
Because the hat is worked in the round, the colors may create a kind of swirl instead of a true half and half look. I chose to block my hat out by dampening it with warm water and twisting it until I was happy with the way the colors sat.
Arms (head color, A or B) x2:
*work first arm in color A, second in color B. Ruffles are worked separately in color C and sewn on
In Head Color, start with magic ring
sc 6 in magic ring (6)

Arm Ruffle (color C) x2: ch 18, join to make a circle 1. sc inc in each chain (36) 2. sc inc in each stitch (72). Sl in next stitch and FO. Sew onto arm where body color meets color A/B.
Body (color A or B) x2:
*body is worked in halves and stitched together **body is worked in rounds for feet, then rows for chest/belly ***the “hips” of the body are angular due to decrease; I ladder stitched over the angles after stuffing and constructing to make the body look smoother on the sides
In color A or B, begin with a magic ring

sc 6, sc dec, sc 7 (14) Ch 1, turn.
sc 6, sc dec, sc 6 (13) Ch 1, turn.
sc 5, sc dec, sc 6 (12) Ch 1, turn.
sc in each stitch (12) Ch 1, turn.
sc in each stitch (12). FO and weave in end.
Stitch the halves of the body together with a ladder stitch. Stuff the feet to desired firmness. You should have about 24 total stitches at the top of the body where the “neck” is – it’s okay if you’re missing a stitch or two though. The neck ruffle will be worked directly to the top of the body and will be made in the round.
Join color C to neck.
sc inc in each stitch (~48)
sc inc in each stitch (~96)
dc inc in each stitch (~192). Sl in next stitch. FO and weave in end.
Tail (head color) x1:
*tail can be made longer or shorter. add or subtract repetitions of row 3 to desired length **i chose not to stuff the tail but you can if you’d prefer to
start with a magic ring

*sc inc* repeat 6 times (12)
sc in each stitch (12)
sc in each stitch (12)
sc in each stitch (12)
sc in each stitch (12). FO and leave a long tail.
Pompoms (color C) x4: *regular fuzzy pompoms or buttons would work just fine for this project but in case you don’t have access to either of those and don’t want to buy them, here’s a fast lil tutorial. it’s basically just one single popcorn stitch tacked into a sphere shape. ch 3 in 3rd ch from hook, dc 5 (5). remove hook from loop and reinsert in the top of first dc. insert hook in loop and pull through. ch 1, FO and leave a long tail. Sew your popcorn stitch into a sphere. I sewed the top of the stitch to the bottom chain, then the side of the first dc to the side of the last dc. Play around with tailoring your popcorn until it looks like a pompom.
Construction:
At this point, you should have a head (stuffed with eyes and mouth), nose, hat, two ears, body, two arms with ruffles on the wrist, a tail, and some pompoms.
If you haven’t already, stitch the ears, hat, and nose to the head.
Attach the head to the body using the long tail left after FO. Finish stuffing as you sew. I used a ladder stitch and aligned row 15 of the head to the neck opening since both have ~24 stitches. It’s okay if part of the neck ruffle is tacked to the head.
At this point, I tailored the “hips” of the body to be smoother. Originally it was pretty angular. I used a ladder stitch to hide some of the “extra” fabric on the hips. You can leave it if you choose, of tailor it to whatever hip shape you like.
Attach the arms to the body. I, of course, used a ladder stitch. The arms are sewn to the side of the body, right underneath the neck ruffle.
The tail is sewn to the back of the body. I chose to place mine towards the bottom, where color A and color B meet.
Sew pompoms onto your clown cat. I put one on top of the hat, then three on the center of the body like buttons.
Finally, add makeup. You can do any design you like! I’ve used fabric paint before but I don’t like the texture it has, so now I use cheap makeup and brushes. (Because I sell/gift plushies, the pallet and brushes I use have never touched human skin and are consistently cleaned but if you’re making a plushie for yourself, you can use whatever you have. Finish off with a little scotch guard if you want to protect the makeup or leave as is. Of course, if the plushie is being gifted to a pet or a child, don’t put makeup on it – embroider or use non-toxic paint instead).
That’s it! Now you have your very own clown cat (or other animal, if you decided to use a different head pattern).
Again, this pattern has only really been tested by yours truly and I haven’t had a chance to take pictures to go with these instructions, so if you run into any problems, go ahead and reach out to me! Happy crafting!
This pattern is available for free here because I don’t believe in gatekeeping crafts but if you’d like to show me some love, support my yarn habit through kofi!

June 15, 1952 | 9:15 AM
It wasn’t my alarm clock that woke me up on Friday morning.
Three weeks into summer and I was living in sinful bliss with the man of my dreams. After graduation and my eighteenth birthday, my life slipped into a peaceful routine. I would sleep in until nine-thirty before waking up slowly. I would join my Mother downstairs for coffee and we would spend an hour talking about our plans for the day. This particular Friday morning, my Mother had an appointment that pulled her away from our daily coffee routine. That left me with a little more time to sleep in before I actually had to start my day.
Or so I thought.
When I opened my eyes, the bright sunshine beaming into my eyes, I heard a series of tapping from my bedroom window. I groaned, sitting up slowly before I glanced over to see the one person I least expected. I scrambled out of bed, quick to push my window up so that Harry could fall into my bedroom before anyone in the neighborhood saw him. I looked back at him with wide eyes when he fell into my room, reaching out to grab my arms as a method of steadying himself. It took him all of ten seconds to trail his eyes over the nightgown that I had chosen the night before. It was a light blue material that was definitely more sheer in the daylight. I cleared my throat, crossing my arms over my chest as he flashed me his signature smirk.
“Well what do we have here?” He said softly, brushing his fingers down the material as my face grew hot. “Do Mummy and Daddy know that you sleep like this?”
“Don’t start teasing me, Harry.” I pouted my lips out. “I’ve just woken up, barely opened my eyes before I heard you knocking at my window like some kind of burglar.”
“I’m sorry babyhoney.” He lowered his head, pressing a soft kiss to my forehead right below my hairline. “Will you forgive me for disrupting your beauty sleep?”
“I suppose.” I grumbled, fighting off my smile as he chuckled. “I thought we were meeting up at the park?”
“I couldn’t wait.” He shrugged, sliding his hands up to grip my sides tightly in his long fingers, he pulled me forward, brushing his nose against mine. “Missed my girl too much. Couldn’t wait any longer to see her.”
“You’re ridiculous.” I sighed, tipping my head back as he kissed gently over the apple of my cheek. “I shouldn’t have told you that my Mother was away this morning. Then again, I didn’t know you’d turn into such a desperate man at the prospect of spending time in bed with me.”
“Who said anything about spending time in bed?” He pulled back, lifting a hand up to cup my cheek with his palm, brushing his thumb over my hot cheek. “I’ve changed you, haven’t I? Turned you into a sex crazed little honey.”
“I am no such thing Harry Edward Styles!” I gasped, playfully pushing at his shoulder as he chuckled along with me. “You take that back.”
“I will not.” He shook his head. “Now give me a proper kiss babyhoney, my lips are feeling a little lonely.”
“Tell me why I should kiss you after a statement like that?” I pouted, pulling my head back as he leaned forward. “Give me one good reason and I’ll give you a very nice, slow kiss.”
“Hmm, because you love me?” He asked, raising his brows. “Is that good enough?”
“Well, I guess.” I let out a dramatic sigh, rolling my eyes at him. He chuckled, shaking his head before he leaned forward.
I carried out my promise, kissing him soft and slow. It was just how he liked it, something I learned within our first week of dating back in junior high. We had been together for nearly five years now, our entire relationship a secret to the outside world. I pulled back from our current kiss, shaking my head as a whine broke from Harry’s throat. I opened my eyes, looking up at him with a soft smile. It took him a second to open his eyes, basking in the afterglow of our kiss for as long as he possibly could. I kissed his chin before pushing up on my toes, kissing up his jawline.
He tilted his head to the side, digging his fingers into my sides as I looped my own arms behind his neck. It didn’t take long before Harry was pushing me back towards my bed, his lips finding mine once more. When I fell back onto my bed, Harry wasted no time before dropping to his knees. His palms massaged over my outer thigh as he pressed soft kisses over my kneecaps. I smiled down at him, lifting a hand to push the long hairs at the top of his head back.
He glanced up at me, a cheeky grin on his mouth.
“Do you have work today?” I asked softly. “I don’t want to disrupt your schedule?”
“I go in later.” He said softly. “I promised you lunch in the park, remember? M’gonna give you just that.”
“But I thought we were going to the drive-in tonight?” My brows furrowed as he slipped his fingers higher up, hooking them in the waistband of my panties. “dreamboat, you promised we would go see the new film with Grace Kelly. You know that I love her.”
“I know, babyhoney.” He cooed softly as I shifted on my bum, allowing him to slip my panties down to my knees before he pulled them off of me completely. “We’re gonna go to the drive-in, I promise.”
“Okay.” I said softly, sliding my fingers from his hair to grip his chin. “We don’t have time for this, dreamboat. You’re gonna be late and we won’t get to have our picnic.”
“Baby, stop being so anxious.” He mumbled, turning his head to kiss my inner wrist. “I have enough time for a little taste, I promise.”
“Well...if you’re late don’t blame me.” I said softly, releasing his chin as he shot me a toothy grin, his dimple carved out just for me. “I suppose a little taste wouldn’t hurt.”
“Think it’s better than breakfast if I’m honest.” He started to litter soft kisses to the inside of my thighs, his hands pulling my legs further apart as he made his way up. “Really is a good way to start my day.”
“I do quite like the glow I get after we fool around.” I giggled, dropping my upper half back onto my bed. “Can’t buy that in a bottle, that’s for sure.”
“Oh honey.” Harry laughed loudly at my statement. “What am I going to do with you?”
12:00 PM
Harry kept his promise to me.
When I hopped on the back of his motorcycle, there was a small picnic basket attached to the back that didn’t normally sit there. We went to a park outside of town that we frequented. The locals knew us there, but we never ran into anyone from our own town during our trips. He confessed that he stole his Mother’s kitchen tablecloth and he worked with Gemma to fix up lunch for both of us. There was a full spread laid out in front of us. Harry took great care in making sure my favorite dessert was tucked away in his picnic basket. When we were done eating, I curled into his side while he read aloud from his favorite book. It was like a small piece of heaven, lying in the sunshine with him. I loved to hear his voice reciting romantic words from the likes of Jane Austen and Emily Bronte. My eyes started to slip shut when he neared the end of a chapter of Emma, the current romance novel we were indulging in together.
“Babyhoney.” Harry kissed the top of my head several times. “You need to keep your eyes open, my sweet little sloth.”
“So tired, Harry.” I let out a loud yawn, turning in my spot so that my face was hidden in his side. He chuckled softly as I groaned. “Your voice lulls me right to sleep.”
“S’that a compliment?” He asked, a teasing lilt to his voice.
“Yes, dreamboat.” I let out a heavy sigh, pushing up on my arms before pressing a sloppy kiss to his lips. “Love you.”
“I love you more.” He rubbed the tip of his moan against mine and I giggled. “We better get going, I need to be at the shop in an hour.”
“Alright.” I let out another sigh before sitting up. Harry stood up as I started to put things back in the basket. When I was finished, I looked up to see Harry with his hand extended out. “Thank you, dreamboat.”
He pulled me to my feet, catching my lips when I stumbled into his chest. It didn’t take long for our innocent little kiss to turn into something more. My fingers found themselves tangled into his hair around the same time he was hoisting me up with a low grunt. I wrapped my legs around his, giggling as he started walking us towards whatever flat surface would support me. I broke the kiss with a giggle when he pushed my back into a wide tree trunk.
He wasted no time ducking his head down to kiss up my neck, suckling softly at the soft junction of my jaw and my neck. I tilted my head back, letting out a soft sigh as he nipped softly at the already wet skin. It didn’t take long for Harry to slip his hand under my dress, pushing aside my panties before he brushed his fingers up my wet folds. I closed my eyes, clenching around nothing as he brushed his fingers over my clit softly. He smirked into the skin of my jaw as he rubbed in soft circles, ignoring my desperate pleas for him to sink his fingers into me. After a few moments of his fingers circling over my clit, he dipped his forefinger into my entrance. I gasped when he hooked the first half of his digit up, massaging that soft spot inside of my walls before he pulled his finger away. I was seconds from complaining, my mouth ajar as I snapped my head up. I was quickly cut off by Harry adding a second finger into me.
My heartbeat picked up as he grunted softly, adjusting so that my back was firmly pressed against the tree. There was no way he could hold me up anymore.
“Harry, please.” I dropped my forehead to his, my breath fanning over his face as he looked up at me. “Fuck me.”
“Are you sure?” He gulped, pulling back to glance around the park. “Honey, someone could walk by and see us.”
“I don’t care.” I whispered, brushing my fingers over his cheek. “I need you now, dreamboat.”
“Bloody christ, woman.” He whined, closing his eyes tightly for a second before he was nodding. I tried to conceal my triumphant grin, but it was no use. “Who taught you to be this naughty?”
“You, Harry.” I let out a soft laugh as he shook his head, mumbling a soft curse under his breath. “Thought you needed to be at the shop in an hour, dreamboat? Are you sure you have time?”
“Gotta give my girl what she wants, don’t I? Gonna have to make this quick.” Harry mutters.
I look back at him with a mischievous smirk on my face. “Then, stop talking and show me what you can do, please.”
It took him a few minutes to maneuver around holding me and pulling his pants down, but when he finally got them down, he wasted no time sinking into me. It took my breath away when he settled against me, the tip of his cock brushing so deep in me that I clenched down around his shaft. He groaned, dropping his head forward before he pulled back. I whimpered at the empty feeling, but it didn’t last long. Harry settled into an impressive speed as I tangled my fingers in his hair. We were fucking against a tree in broad daylight as if it was perfectly normal and something about that turned me on even more. I closed my eyes, sliding one hand down to press against my clit as Harry continued to drive his hips into me.
“Gonna play with yourself for me, babyhoney?” He gasped, lifting his head up as I moaned softly in response. “That’s my sweet girl.”
“M’your sweet girl.” I opened my eyes, pressing my forehead to his. “I’m so close.”
“Yeah?” He asked, licking over his bottom lip. I took the cue, leaning down to press my lips to his in a desperate kiss. “Go on babyhoney, let go for me.”
His words sent me over the edge, my body picking up on his demand as I clenched around his shaft. I let out a loud gasp, burying my face in the crook of his shoulders as he bucked his hips a little harder. His thrusts turned sloppy as I started to come down and I knew that he was close. It didn’t take long for him to grunt, pressing his forehead against mine as he spilled into me. I would worry about the consequences of it later, my eyes and mind focused on Harry’s face as he tried to keep himself quiet. When he was finally finished, he pulled out slowly. When he hissed out in discomfort, I whimpered at the empty feeling left in the pit of my stomach.
“I need to keep an eye on you.” Harry chuckled lowly, shaking his head as I giggled. “You’re starting to get a little too wild baby.”
“Only for you dreamboat.” I lifted my hand up to pinch his cheek. “Now we absolutely have to get back to my house. You’re going to be late for work.”
“I’ll be fine, baby.” He brushed his nose against mine before pressing a soft kiss to my lips. “I actually have something I want to ask you.”
In all the time that I had known Harry, I’d never seen him nervous like this before. I could tell he was nervous by the shifting of his eyes and the deep frown pulling between his brows. My heartbeat started to pick up as I watched him fumble for his words. He cleared his throat, tapping his fingers against my thigh. I slipped my legs from around his waist, pressing my feet flat to the ground. He shifted around, sliding his pants back up over his hips before buckling them up. I smoothed my hands over my dress after readjusting my panties. Harry let out a deep sigh before wiping his hands over his trousers. I watched with raised brows and wide eyes as he looked up towards the sky before looking back down at me.
“You know that I love you, right?” I nodded at his question, crossing my arms over my chest shyly. This felt more like a breakup speech than a confession of love. “You’re my entire world, honeybaby. I adore you.”
“I love you too, dreamboat.” I gave him a sad smile, stepping forward. “Is everything okay? Oh no!”
“What?” His eyes grew wide as tears started to pool in my own eyes. “What’s wrong?”
“You’re moving back to England, aren’t you?” I sniffled, my heart breaking. “You’re going to leave me here and go back to that stupid old country and I’ll never see you again!”
“Honey, no!” He cried out, moving forward to wrap his arms around me. “I’m not going anywhere, I promise.”
“Why would you scare me like that!” I groaned, pressing my palms over my face as I leaned into his chest. “You sounded like you were about to break up with me dreamboat!”
“I - what?” He pulled back, reaching up to wrap his fingers around my wrists. He pulled my hands away from my face and I sniffled, trying to control the tears flowing over my cheeks. “Never, babyhoney. I wouldn’t...I was trying to-fuck.”
“What?” I asked, my brows furrowing as he reached into his back pocket with one hand. When he brought his hand back into view, I noticed the small velvet box immediately. “Oh my god.”
“I had a speech prepared but…words aren’t enough when it comes to you.” He said softly, reaching over with his other hand to open the box with shaky fingers. “You are the reason I wake up every morning. You’re the reason I smile at nothing in the middle of a conversation with someone else. You’re the reason I wake up in the middle of the night, petrified because I don’t have you by my side.I know you still want to go to Harvard to earn your degree and I want to be there to support you every step of the way, as your husband.”
I didn’t even look at the ring, my eyes trained on Harry’s.
He was tearing up as well, the rims of his eyes red and the light green shade just a little darker.
“Will you marry me?” He asked, his voice breaking a little. “Please, babyhoney. Say something.”
“Yes.” I whispered, nodding my head. “Yes I will.”
“You will?” His frown was replaced with a smile, his eyes lighting up as a few tears fell onto his cheeks. “You didn’t even look at the ring.”
“You could have proposed to me with a piece of string and I would have said yes.” I chuckled. I moved forward, tossing my arms around his neck before another round of tears released from my eyes. I turned my head, pressing my nose into his shirt as a soft sob broke free. “I can’t believe I let you make love to me against a tree before proposing to me.”
“That’s what are you crying about?” He laughed, sliding his arms around my waist.
“No, I’m crying because I love you so much.” I pulled back, pressing my lips to his. “I’m going to love you until my heart stops beating dreamboat. I know it.”
5:00 PM
The plan that I had told my parents was a complete lie.
They thought that I would be going to the drive-in theatre with my best friend, Imogene, and her boyfriend Tommy. It wasn’t completely a lie. Imogene and Tommy would probably be at the drive-in tonight, but I wouldn’t be with them. I would be with Harry, pressed against his side as I watched Grace Kelly on the silver screen. We would split a strawberry shake like we always did and I would steal half of his fries. He never complained when I did it though. When I kissed my Mother and Father goodbye, I told them not to wait up for me. They never had a problem with me staying out late when I was with Imogene. She was a good girl with a good head on her shoulders as my Father would always say. It was half of the reason I used her as an alibi. She never knew I was with Harry but she knew I was off having a secret love affair with someone.
When I walked out of my house, I turned my head to the left expecting to see Harry’s motorcycle parked down the street. Sitting there in its normal spot was a pink and white car with white wall tires. I knew that wasn’t him because he didn’t actually own a car despite the fact he was working in an autoshop. I was just about to retreat back inside when I did a double take. My jaw dropped as I watched my fiance step out of the car, ruffling his hair slightly before turning my direction. I could see the grin on his face from my parent’s front porch and it made me shake my head in disbelief. I jogged down the steps before running down the sidewalk. I crashed into Harry at full speed, giggling as he wrapped his arms around me.
“Whose car is this?” I asked breathlessly, looking over at the Ford Fairlane convertible with wide eyes.
“It’s ours.” He said. “My boss bought a newer model for his wife last week and he promised me this one if I pulled some extra hours at the shop when he asked.”
“Really?” I looked back at him, my smile so wide that it actually hurt my cheeks. “I can’t believe you have a car!”
“We have a car.” He corrected me. “What’s mine is yours, remember?”
“Oh my god we have a car.” I cheered, jumping up in excitement. “You’re already the best husband a girl could ask for.”
“We’re not even married yet.” He chuckled, reaching down for my hand. “Come on, let’s get you fed before you get grumpy.”
“I am not grumpy!” I frowned, my brows pulling together. “You take that back right now.”
“Come on babyhoney.” He kissed my cheek before leaning down to open the passenger side door. “You’re already turning into a sourpuss.”
5:30 PM
Halfway through our split strawberry milkshake, Harry pressed his hand against my thigh.
Part of me wanted to wear pants to the drive-in because I knew when the sun went away, the air would get colder. The other part of me wanted to drive Harry crazy with a beautiful, yellow summer dress that I bought on clearance months ago at Sears. Harry always loved when I wore yellow, even if I disliked how the color looked on me. As his fingers softly brushed against the sensitive skin of my inner thigh I found that I couldn’t care less about the color yellow. As long as I got this kind of reaction from my dreamboat, I didn’t care if I was in a paper bag. When Grace Kelly appeared on the screen, I gasped. Harry let out a soft chuckle as I moved forward in my seat to get a better look at her. His hand slipped off of my thigh momentarily and I passed the shake back to him before I reached down to turn the dial on the radio higher.
“She’s so beautiful, isn’t she?”
“Think you’re much prettier, babyhoney.” He pressed his palm against my lower back and I let out a soft chuckle before leaning back into his embrace. “I bet you would be a much better actor, too.”
“I don’t think I was meant to be on camera.” I shook my head at his words, glancing back at him with my nose scrunched up. “That’s more your speed, I think.”
“Why do you say that?” He chuckled.
“You’ve got such a handsome face.” I cooed, reaching up to pinch his cheek as he groaned. “And you’re so charming. Like Cary Grant.”
“I wouldn't want to be an actor either.” He mumbled as I pressed my palm against his chest. “I think I would want to be a musician. I’d be happy as a backup singer or something.”
“Dreamboat,” I rolled my eyes at his words before shaking my head. “You’d be the frontman, I know it. You have such an amazing singing voice.”
“Alright, you’re gonna blow my head up.” He patted my hand softly, trying to distract me from the pink dusted across his cheeks. “Pay attention to your movie.”
“Suddenly I’m not very interested in the movie, dreamboat.” My soft whisper was enough to pull his gaze from the screen, his attention back on me as I grinned. “I think there’s something else I would rather be doing right now.”
“What’s that?” His voice was strained as he spoke and I felt his warm palm land back on the skin of my thigh.
“Can I have a kiss?” I asked, brushing the tip of my nose against his. “It’s been so long since you’ve kissed me.”
“Kissed you for ten minutes when we got in the car.”
“Not the same.” I whispered, shaking my head. “I want a really good kiss, dreamboat.”
“Baby, I don’t think I know what you mean.” He hummed, pursing his lips out as if he was deep in thought. “Show me?”
“My pleasure.”
I pressed my lips to his seconds later and he gripped my thigh tighter in response.
I let out a soft sigh of content, tilting my head to the side before pressing up in my seat. I slipped the hand I had resting on his chest to his neck. I let my fingers trail over the skin of his neck softly as I tried to deepen the kiss. I slipped my tongue over the seam of his mouth, but he didn’t budge. I let out a frustrated whimper when I felt him smirk against my lips.
Before I could pull back to scold him, he cradled the back of my neck with his own hand. My hand fell back to his chest, my fingers sliding down the fabric of his baby blue sweater before I pushed it up. I rested my palm on his tummy, my heart fluttering when I felt him tense beneath my hands.
It was my turn to smile into the kiss as he tried to guide my hand closer to his cock. I didn’t give into his needs, sliding my hand up towards his nipples instead. I brushed my thumb over his right nipple, pulling my lips away to trail over his jawline as I tweaked it gently. Harry let out a breathless moan, tossing his head back as I kissed over his Adam's apple.
“Babyhoney?” His voice was deep and raspy and I wondered if I had anything to do with the change in mood. “Please touch me?”
“I am touching you, Dreamboat.” I whispered against the skin of his neck as I moved my fingers to his left nipple. “Touching you just how you like it, aren’t I?”
“Yes, but-”
“But?” I pulled back, a faux pout settling on my lips. “You don’t like it?”
“You know I love it.” He let out a frustrated chuckle, shaking his head. “Want your hand down my pants babyhoney. Wanna feel you touch my cock.”
“Oh.” I pressed my lips together, nodding my head at his words. “Do you want to show me how?”
“You know how, baby.” He whimpered, shuffling his hips around. “Pull me out, sweet girl.”
“I wasn’t quite finished kissing you.” I sighed dramatically before dropping my hand down to the waistband of his pants. “I guess that will just have to wait.”
“Yes.” He nodded, licking over his bottom lip as he lifted his hips up. I smirked at his eager attitude, popping the button on his trousers before I tugged the zipper down. “Want you to put your mouth on me. Want you to show me how good you can really be, baby.”
I wasted no time pulling him from the confines of his boxers, wrapping my fingers around his shaft firmly before giving it a few tugs. It never took me long to get him hard. When I brushed the pad of my thumb over the tip of his cock, I felt the wet traces of his pre-cum on my finger. I glanced up at him with soft eyes, shuffling myself a little bit further away so that I could lean down. I pressed a few, soft kisses to the tip of his cock before flattening my tongue out. I slipped it further down his shaft before closing my lips around it. I could tell that Harry was having a hard time staying composed above me. He had already slipped his fingers into the hair at the nape of my neck, tugging softly as I tried to push myself lower onto his cock. I pulled back, quickly, hollowing out my cheeks. Harry gasped, bucking his hips to chase the feeling of my mouth.
“Baby,” Harry tugged at my hair gently as he tried his best to pull his hips away. “The carhop is coming.”
“Fuck.” I groaned out, sitting up before I swiped the back of my hand over my lips. “Just...sit still, okay?”
“What?” Harry furrowed his brows as I climbed into his lap, hovering over him before I reached down to grab his shaft. “Fuck, baby. Are you going to sit on my cock?”
“Yes,” I gasped when he pushed his hips up, the tip of his cock pushing into me. “I can’t...don’t want the carhop seeing you. You’re mine.”
“M’yours.” He grasped at my hips, steadying me as I let his cock stretch me out. I let out a low whine when I settled into him fully, his fingers digging into my sides. “Feels so good to be in you like this. Can’t….all I feel is you, babyhoney.”
I rested my hands over his, linking our fingers together as I tried my best not to move my hips. I needed to sit absolutely still if we were going to get away with this. When the carhop finally made it to our car, I smiled over at her the best that I could. Harry pressed his chin onto my shoulder, pretending to watch the movie as I waited for the carhop to finish speaking.
“We’re done with everything.” I tried my best not to gasp when I absentmindedly shift my hips, the tip of his cock sending a shockwave through my body. “Thank you.”
“Have a stellar night you two!” She called out before walking off to the next car.
“Fuck.” I gasped when Harry shifted under me, his hips pushing up and catching me off guard. My thighs tensed up as Harry bit into my shoulder, sliding his arms around me. “I just...we’re missing the movie, Harry.”
“I don’t care about the movie.” He growled, shifting his hips up again. “I need it...know you do too, babyhoney.”
“I have to watch the movie, dreamboat.” I sighed softly as he sponged a few wet kisses up my neck, stopping at my jawline. “Gotta tell Mama about it when I get home.”
“We’ll come back tomorrow.” He tried to reason with me, sliding his palm over my lower stomach before pressing down. “Feel how full I make you? That’s me in your belly, babyhoney.”
“I know.” I bit my lower lip, rolling my eyes up towards the ceiling in attempts to control myself. I wanted so badly to move my hips, but listening to him beg was worth the wait. “Gotta be good for me, dreamboat.”
“Baby.” He whimpered in my ear. “Please don’t leave me hanging.”
“Shh, Harry.” I turned my head to look at him, ignoring the soft blush on his cheeks and the furrow in his brow. “I’m watching the film.”
Harry let out a frustrated sigh, but he didn’t say another word.
I kept my eyes on the screen, watching Grace float around each scene. I wasn’t really paying attention to what was happening, the feeling of Harry fidgeting behind me a distraction. Every few moments, he would move his hands. From settling on my thighs to my hips to my stomach to my sides. He moved them so much that it almost felt like he was making sure I was still okay. A few times, I squeezed my walls, shifting around to keep him on his toes. Each movement earned a gasp joined by his fingers digging into my skin through my dress. When we were nearing the end of the movie, I decided that enough was enough. I couldn’t hold out any longer, my hips moving on their own as I inhaled sharply. It didn’t take long for Harry to catch onto my motive, his hands falling on my hips as my body moved.
The stretch of his cock sent a shockwave through my body with each rise of my hips and by the time I fell back onto him, he was already praising me. My movements were slow and unsure, the confidence I’d had at the beginning of the night completely gone. My legs were starting to grow sore and I wasn’t sure that I could carry myself to an orgasm in this position. Something in the way Harry leaned forward, gripping my hips tighter, told me that he was aware of my struggle. He leaned forward, kissing up my neck before lifting my hips up. When I started to settle back onto him, he pushed me back up to the awkward crouching position.
“S’enough of that baby.” He grunted. “Want you to lay down for me, yeah?”
“Someone will notice.” I shook my head, looking back at him. “Just let me turn around, please? I want to...I want to finish making you feel good.”
“You make me feel good no matter what position we’re in.” He let out a soft chuckle as I turned around, climbing over his lap. “Babyhoney, I know your legs are tired.”
“They are.” I nodded, pressing my palms to his cheeks as he brushed his fingers up my bare thighs. “Maybe you can help me with that? Be a gentleman like you promised me, dreamboat?”
“Okay.” Harry nodded as I reached down with my right hand, holding his shaft before I slipped the tip past my entrance. “Don’t sit all the way, just...wait right there.”
“Why?” I asked, my brow furrowing as I settled towards the middle of his shaft.
My answer was a sharp thrust from Harry’s hips nearly knocking me over.
The air left my lungs in the form of a loud moan and I ducked my head down, burying my face in his shoulder as he pulled back out. The feeling before was good, but this was so much better. Harry lifted his hips again with a grunt, angling them slightly different and holding himself in me for just a few moments longer. I laced my fingers behind his neck, holding onto him as he started to find a steady rhythm. It wasn’t fast, but it felt so good. I could feel my own wetness starting to coat my thighs and my fingers started to slip apart, slick from perspiration as Harry pushed my closer to the edge. I knew that I was done for when he opened his mouth, his words sending chills down my spine.
“Gonna be such a good wife to me, I know it.” He grunted in my ear and I nodded. “Gonna be my partner, yeah? Gonna treat you like a bloody queen, baby. Gonna fuck you like this every night.”
“Harry.” I lifted my head up, pressing my forehead into his. “I’m close.”
“Yeah?” He let out a breathless chuckle, licking over his bottom lip. “Hold tight for me, baby. Gonna get you there, gonna make you cum.”
He did as promised, driving his hips up into me at an impressive speed. He had to kiss me to keep me quiet, the moans ripping from my mouth far too loud for our little rendezvous. When I came, it felt like the world stopped. Harry pulled my hips down flush against his, spilling into me with a grunt of his own. I rolled my hips forward, welcoming the soft sting as I continued to pulse around his cock. I pulled back from his mouth with a loud chuckle, tossing my head back.
“Surely someone saw that.” I let out a heavy sigh, trying to catch my breath.
When I finally felt calm enough, my chest no longer heaving, I lifted my hips up. Harry winced when his cock dropped back against his stomach and I kissed him softly as an apology. When he was tucked back into his trousers, I kissed him again.
“I can’t believe we just did that.” I chuckled into his mouth.
“You’re something else.” He shook his head before dropping it back to the seat behind him. “I’m gonna have to keep a close watch on you. Putting that ring on your finger has changed you, huh?”
“I just want to make my husband happy.” I hummed softly, pressing my lips to his. “Are you happy?”
“So happy that my heart could burst right out of my chest.” He whispered. “I can’t wait for it to be official.”
“I would go to the courthouse tomorrow to say ‘I do’, you know I would dreamboat.” I whispered, pulling back to brush my thumb over his chin. “You tell me when you’re ready and I’ll meet you at the altar.”
“I want you to have a proper wedding.” He frowned, his brows pulling together. “Everything we’ve done so far has been....it’s not been by the book. You deserve to have something normal and proper.”
“Harry, I-”
Before I could get the words out of my mouth, I heard my Father’s voice.
My blood ran cold as I looked at Harry, my eyes growing wide. Harry’s look mirrored mine, his fingers digging into the skin of my thighs before I slipped off of his lap. I was quick to grab the door handle, getting out of the car. I cursed when I felt the wetness between my legs. It slipped my mind that Harry didn’t pull out, his release still inside of me. I quickly rushed around the front of the car when I saw my Father barreling towards Bertha. My Mother was hot on his heels as Harry stepped out of the car, settling by my side with his hand on my lower back. In the distance, I could see Imogene and Tommy standing there with shock on their faces.
“You better get your hands off my daughter, you hoodrat.” My father was dangerously close to Harry, pointing his finger at him angrily.
“Daddy, it’s okay!” I said quickly, sliding between the two men. “It’s...Harry is harmless, I promise. He’s my boyfriend, Daddy.”
“Johnny is your boyfriend.” My Father didn’t take his eyes from Harry’s.
“He’s not.” I swallowed around the lump in my throat, closing my eyes as I took a deep breath. “I broke up with Johnny a long time ago. He’s with someone else now.”
“How long have you been lying to us then?” My Mother asked quietly.
When I looked over at her, she was clutching her pearls with sad eyes.
“I’ve been with Harry for five years.” I whispered. “I really love him, Mama. I swear that I do.”
“You don’t know what love is!” My Father snapped, his eyes finally landing on mine. I felt Harry stand up straighter behind me, his chest brushing my back as he rested his fingers lightly on my hip. “You’re just a child.”
“I’m not a child, daddy.” I whispered, the familiar burn behind my eyes catching me off guard. “I love him.”
“We’re going home.” My Father said, reaching down for my hand. I pulled it back, holding it to my chest. “Y/N we are going home, you don’t have a choice.”
“Sir, maybe we can take this somewhere more private.” Harry spoke up behind me. “We can all talk this out and-”
“You don’t speak to me.” My Father snapped at Harry before looking back at me. “Let’s go.”
“I’m not a child anymore. If you insist on making me choose between you and Harry, I’ll pick him. I will always pick him. He’s my soulmate.” I said.
“If you don’t come home with us right now, there’s no coming back. There will be no university in the fall or summer trip to the beach.” My Father seethed, but I didn’t budge. “You would give up your family for a lowlife like him.”
“Yes.” I didn’t hesitate. “I’m sorry that you don’t believe me, but Harry is my soulmate and I...I can’t leave him. Not even for you.”
It was silent for a minute, the whole world standing still as my father and I stared at each other. I tried to hold it all in, hiding my fear behind a deep scowl. The only thing keeping me grounded and steady was Harry’s touch. I waited, watching my Father’s face turn red with anger with each passing second. It didn’t take him long to turn around, booking past my Mother. I looked over at her, my face softening as I realized that maybe I shouldn’t have kept it from her. She stared back at me with a look of sheer disappointment in her eyes and it nearly broke me. She looked back at Harry, letting go of her pearls as she let out a heavy sigh.
“He’s going to need time to adjust.” My Mother said quietly. “I’ll pack up your things. You can come pick them up on Sunday after church.”
“Okay.” I croaked out, reaching up to lace my fingers with Harry’s. “I’m sorry.”
She didn’t say another word, turning on her heels before walking away.
When she was out of sight, I stumbled back into Harry. I pressed the fingers of my freehand to my lips, muffling the sob that burst out of my chest as I watched my parents peel away. Harry wrapped both of his arms around me as my knees started to grow weak. I turned in his arms, burying my face in his chest as he cooed softly above me.
“It’s going to be alright.” He said softly. “They just need time, like your Mother said.”
“I don’t think time will fix it.” I hiccuped, looking up at him. “Are you...are you okay?”
“I’m alright, babyhoney.” He smiled softly, reaching up to brush his fingers over my wet cheeks. I sniffled, nodding my head. “Stop your cryin’, alright? Let’s go home. I’m sure Mum will be excited to have another girl around.”
“You don’t think she’ll be upset?” I asked.
“Never.” Harry said softly. “You’re family now.”

A Fond Farewell
Short Story by Nathaerus Reauloix ~ Mateus
“Grab your cups, lads!” Nathaerus called out cheerfully as he approached his crew at the long table in the galley with a fresh round of ale, “And lasses!” shouted a Miqo’te woman at the far end of the table. He laughed heartily at that, and gave the woman a wink, “Of course. I would never forget the lasses, especially one as lovely as you, but for my error of making you think you’d been forsaken, I will deliver your ale personally.”
He set down the tray of steins and slid two aside as the remainder were set upon immediately by the parched crewmates as they offered scattered thanks and grunts of acknowledgement. As the Elezen hoisted the claimed steins for himself and the woman at the opposite end of the long communal table, a rough looking Roegadyn the size of a bear gave him a jarring pat on the back before resting his lumbering arm over the Elezen’s shoulders, “You’re alright, lad. At first I didn’t think you’d be a lick of help here, what with you lookin’ like a scrawny sack o’ shite like you do, but, this has been a smoother tour than I’ve had in ages, thanks in part to yer skills. Ye’ll be missed, my boy.”
“Don’t get sentimental on me now, Hareswerd! We’ve still got one more night to get through together, hm? It’s not over until we reach the airship dock in Limsa. There’s still plenty of time for me to disappoint you!” Nathaerus said, voice full of mirth as he nimbly pivoted out of Hareswerd’s grasp and made his way to the Miqo’te.
She swished her tail excitedly as he approached. Circling around behind her, he bent down over her shoulder, chest pressed lightly to her back. He placed his mouth close to her ear as he set down the ale in front of her, “And for you.” he said lowly before dropping his voice to a whisper to continue, “We’ve one more evening on this vessel. Last chance to make good on my offer. Give it some thought, Khipi.” The woman blushed furiously as Nathaerus stood, letting his touch linger gently on her shoulder before making his way to the head of the table.
He cleared his throat and raised his own glass in the air, “To clear skies, honest gil, and the hardest working crew in Eorzea!”
The motley group at the table cheered and clattered their steins together in a symbol of camaraderie before downing the contents. Nathaerus brought his own mug to his lips then paused, setting it on the table. He snapped his fingers as if realizing something brilliant for the first time, “I should bring a little after dinner drink to some of the skeleton crew for being so kind as to allow us this final farewell.” He grinned conspiratorially, “You all won’t sell me out to the captain for giving the men something to lift their spirits for their selfless deeds will you?” the group scoffed and waved him off. He gave them an apologetic grin for his oversight that would leave his friends deprived of his presence for a short while.
Nathaerus wandered back to the barrels along the wall of the galley, kneeling down to reach the tap. Filling each stein one by one, he tapped an extra ingredient from a vial hidden up his right sleeve ; a simple sleeping powder he’d purchased from an apothecary, to help him get some rest from the constant noise of the airship engines, he’d claimed.
Some people found the droning of the machina soothing, but no, not Nathaerus. His senses were simply too delicate, and he couldn’t possibly manage without something to help him rest. He would let his crew down if he worked sleep-deprived. He’d be fired, and his poor mother counted on his wages too!
The apothecary had taken the bait and given him enough to last an entire contracted stint on an airship or, to lace the drinks of the lookouts the night before the end of his contract to allow him to work in peace.
Offering Khipi a final wink on his way out of the galley, he wandered over to the slim crew that had been left to stand watch over the cargo room making sure to give a wide berth to the helm and the captain’s quarters on his way. The lookouts offered him a nod of thanks and well wishes on wherever his next job would take him. Nathaerus stayed to exchange a few pleasantries before heading back down to the rest of the group.
He turned the corner of the narrow corridor back to the galley and nearly ran directly into Khipi. She jumped back in surprise and then averted her gaze quickly.
“I - was getting tired, and I...I wanted to make sure I saw you before I went to bed.” her cheeks flushed as she spoke, voice barely above a whisper.
Nathaerus smirked, olive eyes shining with interest at her sudden bashfulness , “Did you now? What could I, a simple sailor, possibly help the Chief Steward with at so late an hour?” his voice was filled with amusement as he slowly closed the distance between himself and Khipi. For every steady step he took, she shuffled back with equally unsure steps until her back hit the wall at the end of the corridor. Nathaerus placed one hand beside her head on the wall and ghosted his fingertips over one of her shoulders with the other, “Well?” he asked and paused, awaiting her answer.
In response, Khipi took a deep breath, pushed herself from the wall and jumped, hooking her legs around his waist and digging her hands into his hair, kissing him deeply. Nathaerus returned the kiss while he grasped at her waist, sliding his fingers along her side to fish for the small key ring which she always carried. When his index finger hit the metal ring, he deftly found the clip and released it from her belt loop, tucking it into his pants’ pocket. He laughed softly to break the kiss with the woman, “Now now, Khipi. What would the captain say if he saw you behaving this way, really?”
The Miqo’te released her grasp on the man and dropped down to the floor with a huff and a light thud. “I’ll be in my room then!” she declared and stared at him meaningfully for a moment before smoothing her hair down and heading off in the opposite direction. That had been a lucky break and easier than he’d expected. He’d planned to spend another several hours drinking with the crew to get an opportunity to free the key ring from her.
He whistled a jaunty tune to himself as he made his way back to the galley which was in an uproar. Deep in their cups, the rest of the crew had begun a bare knuckle boxing match between some of the rougher members, and the din of the blows combined with the cheers of the spectators was enough to drown out most anything happening on the ship at this time of night. Nathaerus peered in from the doorway taking care not to be seen.
This was as good a time as any.
He retraced his steps back to the cargo hold, and laughed lightly as he bent down to pat one of the passed out guards on the cheek. “Sweet dreams, my good man.” Nathaerus checked over each shoulder for unwanted lookers-on before he flipped through the key chain, trying several before finally the door gave way with a click of the tumbles falling into place. Nath slipped in and pushed the heavy door shut behind him.
He knew what he was looking for, a crate from the goldsmith’s guild in Ul’dah shipping a custom order necklace for some relocated merchant’s daughter in Costa del Sol by way of Limsa. It would be small, and bearing the emblem of the guild, and he need only find it, pry it open, take the necklace and be gone before anyone noticed he was missing from his own farewell party.
He made his way around the room methodically by the dim light available in the hold. Boxes of textiles, food, and other mundane goods were available in abundance, but the small box of jewels remained hidden like buried treasure. After several false starts, from the corner of his eye he caught the emblem of the Goldsmith’s Guild burned into the wood of a crate in the back corner of the room. He dashed over, and with a practiced hand, prised open the lid.
There it was, silver chain with a large emerald set in a ring of diamonds attached to the chain. Nathaerus whistled, impressed, as he lifted it from the crate and held it in front of him, the light dancing off the jewels, mesmerizing him. So much so that he didn’t hear the door open behind him.
“What in the Seven Hells do you think you’re doing in here? What happened to the boys out fr-” the bellowing voice stopped and Nathaerus heard the click of a gun, “Yer trying to steal from me, you filthy sky rat! I ought to take the brains out of yer head since you clearly ain’t usin’ ‘em!” Nathaerus slipped the chain of the necklace around his index finger and slowly stood, raising his hands in surrender before pivoting to face the voice he already knew.
The captain was a hulking Roegadyn man, his face was turning red and his rage was punctuated by the barrel of the rifle that he had aimed directly at Nathaerus.
“Captain! I wasn’t expecting your delightful company!” Nathaerus cautiously watched the man as he began, “You could, in fact kill me here, but I suspect that might bode poorly for your operations.”
The man tightened his grip on his rifle, “ An’ how do ye figure that? I kill a thief on board my vessel, and I’m a bloody hero.”
“Hm, not quite. First, you’d run the risk of damaging your cargo since all you’ve got to kill me is that inaccurate rifle. But let’s say for fun you do manage it. You’d still need to answer for why there’s a body on your ship once you dock. You could throw my body over, but I am well beloved by the crew, more than you, with all due respect...sir. The crew would notice my absence and be disinclined to believe your tale about me being a thief all along and get the officials involved when you dock. Then, of course, they would conduct a thorough investigation of your vessel.”
The captain raised his rifle to aim at Nathaerus’s head, “Make your point, and make it fast, you knife-eared piece of shite.”
“Well, sir. I think this might be an issue.” Nathaerus kicked the wall beside him and knocked loose a plank on the wall, sending large satchels of somnus spilling forth. The captain seemed shaken and his grip on the gun faltered.
Nathaerus left no time for the man to reply, “I chose your ship for a reason. Two, really, but only one that matters to you at the moment.” His face broke into a grin as he continued, “You can either let me walk off of this ship with this trinket whose value pales in comparison to that of your real cargo, or, you can risk having your entire operation exposed. Entirely your call, Captain” he said, the last word dripping with sarcasm.
For what felt like an eternity, the Roegadyn kept the gun trained on Nathaerus before he finally relented with a groan of frustration. “Take the bloody necklace, but you will never work for me again. I never want to see that shite-eating grin of yours for the rest of my cursed life, you hear me?”
Nathaerus spun the necklace around on his finger before catching it in his palm and casually tucking his hands in his pants’ pockets as he made his way to the door. “That was always the plan.”

Having the Time of My Life Overanalyzing Voltron Science, A Visual Novel
The team’s little mantra in the original show was “ Activate interlock! Dynotherms connected! Infracells up! Mega thrusters are go! Let’s go Voltron Force!” And they said this each and every single time their 5 lions formed together into the combined robot.
In today’s essay I will be deeply examining and wildly speculating about what exactly interlocks, dynatherms, infracells, and mega thrusters are, why it’s entirely crucial that these 4 items be part of the Voltron preflight checklist, and explaining why (or at least inferring that) you should take it all seriously.
Interlock
The Interlock is easy. It’s probably whatever system is used to attach the 5 lions together. So what are they? Magnets? Docking rings like on spacecraft? Just mechanical latches? Hard to say. But something as simple as a mechanical latch isn’t something you’d have to ‘activate’ or actively call out during pre-flight, so I would suspect ‘interlock’ is likely a catch-all term for not only the mechanical attachments, but also the control circuit used to synchronize the computers onboard all 5 lions. It would be a complex integrated system within the black lion, which also explains why they refer to it in the singular instead of plural.
Without the interlock, Voltron would just be the 5 lion with their individual brains tied together like duct-taped dogs. The interlock synchronizes them into a common intelligence, under the direction of the centralized black lion.
I don’t know what the mechanical structure of the interlocks would be. Conventional material science would suggest that a robot as large as Voltron wouldn’t be able to even stand, let alone run and jump and fight, so even if we assume nearly-indestructible exotic alien materials, I think you would still want something more than hooks and pins to connect the various pieces together. It would be best if the actual structural elements could somehow fuse at the molecular level. Welding is the most obvious method for that, but there’s also Vaan-Der-Waals forces, which could bond together flat surfaces that could then be slid apart. And maybe if you had superconducting cables running between the elements and then ran a ton of current through them, then you could use magnetic binding? I’m not sure if that would work, but it sounds futuristic enough to be true. IDK.
Dynatherms
I can’t tell if this is ‘dynatherms’ or ‘dinotherms’, but the first sounds less prehistoric, so I’ll go with that. So it sounds like pieces of the words ‘dynamic’ and ‘thermal’ mashed together, which don’t really mean anything except in the context of thermodynamics, so.... What is this? A reactor? A steam engine?
Of all the various components this one puzzled me longest, but I think I’ve got it.
The dynatherms are the cooling system, meant to radiate away the massive amounts of heat its engines and motors would generate. Most spacecraft, heck most vehicles in general, have a system analogous to this. Here’s the one the ISS uses:
Voltron doesn’t have any weird extendo-wings like this, but it’s conceivable that they could be built directly into the outer layer of its armor. The black lion’s little red wings are likely a part of the system too. If you ask me, the surface area of its armor isn’t nearly enough to dissipate enough heat to keep a thing like this cool, but I think I can ignore that.
So anyway. At first this explanation doesn’t seem to fit, since they say ‘dynatherms connected’, not ‘coolant pumps started’ or ‘refrigerant levels maximum’ or something. You don’t ‘connect’ the heat radiators, they’re always connected. You just pump water through them. Right?
Wrong! Here’s my sufficiently futuristic explanation: Voltron’s cooling system doesn’t use coolant and pumps or any type of conventional refrigeration at all! Instead, the ‘dynatherms’ are a network of thermally superconductive cables connecting all its motors and engines to radiative armor panels on the exterior. Thermal superconductivity is a concept I learned from Star Wars and later found out is a real-ish thing. Basically any vibrations in any part of a thermally-superconductive material can frictionlessly travel to any other part of the material. Since temperature is based on vibrations, this means that if a hot thing touches one part of the material, everything else touching the material can instantly feel that heat, and even dissipate that heat. You can think of it as Marvel vibranium or as warmth communism.
Since there’s no fluid flow, the only way to control this cooling system or increase or decrease its dissipation is to connect and disconnect individual cables. Hence why they would have to connect the dynatherms before forming Voltron; combat in combined robot mode is one of the most taxing conditions of the machine’s operation, so they need all the cooling they can get.
Infracells
Now HERE’S where it starts to get interesting. ‘Infra’ roughly means ‘below’. To take the most common example, take ‘infrared’ light, that is, light existing at frequencies lower red light, which is itself the lowest frequency in the visible spectrum. Infrared is invisible, so the only way to describe its color is ‘somewhere below red’.
So as far as I can tell, ‘infracells’ could mean one of three things. They could be some kind of infrared light sensors, like FLIR imagers used for night vision and targeting on modern military equipment (which I consider unlikely, since that’s not the type of thing you would specifically call out during the preflight, or something intrinsically useful to the Voltron assembly process.) Or it could be an armor layer consisting of some kind of cells literally ‘below’ the rest of the armor (which I also consider unlikely, because why would that be important to the Voltron assembly either? You wouldn’t need to even worry about it until you take damage to the outer armor layer, right?) Or, finally and most interestingly, it could have something to do with lower frequencies or lower speeds in general.
Here’s my theory:
The infracells cause time itself to run differently. You all saw the movie Interstellar, where time aboard the spacecraft passed slower for the crew whenever they were inside powerful gravity wells. If you had high buildups of negative energy within cells inside Voltron, it would produce the opposite effect, causing time to move faster inside the cells than outside. Anything inside would experience the rest of the universe in slower motion, meaning lower acceleration, lower forces, and lower stress.
Therefore, if such ‘infracells’ were installed around Voltron’s skeletal frame and motors, it may explain the machine’s great strength and indestructibility. And it would make sense that this would be the type of thing they would call out during the pre-flight, as even one down infracell could spell disaster once that section of the frame is attempting to support the entire weight of the robot; it would buckle and break. Every infracell needs to be up before forming Voltron.
Mega thrusters
Now, this just sounds silly. They’re likely the engines that Voltron uses to fly, but the show creators put ‘mega’ in front of the name to sound cool. Might as well call them ‘super rockets’ or ‘the ultra drive’, right? But mega is an interesting word, as it’s actually a scientific term in the metric system meaning to multiply by a million. Like a kilometer is a thousand meters and a kilogram is a thousand grams, a megameter is a million meters, and a megagram is a 1000 kilograms. You may have heard of ‘megaton’ when referring to nuclear explosives; a three-megaton bomb is a bomb with the explosive yield equivalent to three million tons of TNT. A lot.
So, uh,
Why would you call a thruster a ‘mega thruster’, then?
Well, I know approximately jack-diddly about the original show, but I know that in the newer show, most large spacecraft in the universe get their energy not from nuclear reactors or solar cells, but rather from Balmeran crystals. The crystals are able to produce apparently infinite energy so long as you don’t damage them or overtax them. I don’t know where the crystals get their infinite energy, but that’s not what I’m here to speculate about, so I’ll just treat that as one of the universe’s rules, like bending in Avatar.
So! How do you set that up to make an engine? Well, infinite power is good! Higher power to the engine means hotter, faster exhaust, and hotter, faster exhaust means higher fuel efficiency and higher thrust. So the question becomes, how do you get the most power in the safest and most efficient way possible?
For the sake of some rules, let’s say that you need to give the crystals a little bit of stimulating energy to make them produce energy. That seems fair, I think. Let’s say they produce 5 times the energy they absorb.
So you give a crystal 1 watt, you get 5. That’s great; that means if we need 50 billion watts to run the thruster, we just need to get a big crystal, and feed it 10 billion watts. However! Where do we get that initial 10 billion watts? Well we could just take a portion of the crystal’s own output and cycle it back around to the input, but that’s a dangerous game to play, since if the percentage you cycle around is even slightly more than 20%, you could create a “positive feedback loop” where more input means more output, which leads to greater input which leads to even greater output, and so on and so on until the crystal breaks or the ship blows up or something generally unfavorable happens. This is approximately the experience of the people at Chernobyl, and is not recommended.
So instead of having crystals feed themselves, you’d instead want them to be fed exclusively by an external source, like a battery or an entirely separate smaller crystal. So the initial crystal would feed larger ones, which would feed larger ones, and so on, each stage in the chain becoming more powerful, but always stable and dependent on some initial external input, so as to never go out of control.
And now, I’m thinking it would be nice from an engineering perspective to have all the crystals together in one shielded location. And from a tactical perspective, it would be nice not to have a bunch of bulky, vulnerable, high-energy cables running around the entire vehicle. So, you would want as many crystal stages as possible in the places where the power is needed most. Namely, the engines.
Therefore, a big part of the engines would be made of armored shells to contain dozens of stacks of crystal beds. They would accept a small amount of power at the top, and multiply it internally to get enormous output at the bottom. Hence, ‘mega’ thruster. It multiplies input by a million.
Boom.
Done.
Headcanon deployed.
So now the next time you’re watching some stupid show and think that something doesn’t make sense, pause to consider that maybe you’re just not using enough imagination, or else I will be with you in spirit to wrong-shame you.
(If you use your imagination and it still doesn’t make sense, then don’t worry. This means that the show is trash and you are right.)
Now go to bed.
#Boom#Voltron#voltron: legendary defender#lion#fan theory#engineering#some cool food for thought#I don't even watch this show what am I doing

heart removal: instructions
(it's halloween I'm feeling creepy and also Anxious let's have some creepy and angsty writing)
there are six known ways to remove your own heart
the first: tie it to someone else. use ropes or chains or IV tubing, it doesn't matter, but it must pierce your heart (needle or tentspike or grappling hook all work) and loop gently over theirs. do not tie it tightly; they must be able to remove it easily. for after you're done. or while you're still tied. whenever they want, really. when (you know it's when) they have drained you of love and joy and grief and anger, the husk of your heart will be paperthin and dry, easy to crumble to dust and sweep away. have a dustpan handy.
the second: vomit it up. this will take practice; have a bucket prepared for the blood and bile and panic and pain that will come first. leave those in the bucket for as long as this method takes (minutes or days or months or years). wash most of the taste from your mouth, but not all of it. this will help with your next attempt. keep trying until you feel you are choking on a lump in your throat. you're almost there. keep trying. keep trying. your heart tastes bad, but not as bad as what came before. spit it into the bucket, on top of your indeterminate-time-frame of blood etc. let it stay there. let it sink.
the third: let it rot. stop using it. stop listening to it. don't touch it. don't let anyone else touch it. it must lie still and undisturbed in the squalid stagnant cavern of your chest. make sure it's wet in there. drink. drink more. keep drinking. make sure there's trash in there to help the rot along. consume garbage. let it pile up. do not clean it out. you won't be able to see your heart anymore. good. it'll be rotten before you know it. don't check on it, in case you remember what it felt like. do not try to grow things here. a rotten heart does not make good compost.
the fourth: cut it out. you will need the sharpest, coldest blade you can find. try thoughts. or words. or glances. if you are not an experienced surgeon, this is not advised; you may accidentally cut yourself before the surgery. or during. if you do it right, it won't hurt at all, perfectly sharp and fast and angled, freezing and numbing as it goes. did it hurt? you did it wrong. well, it's done. you'll bleed after, but without a heart you shouldn't feel it. does it still hurt? you missed a bit. try again.
the fifth: bargain it away. find a witch, a fae, a sorcerer, a demon, a priest. they will all be happy to collect it as payment. ask for a boon (to see clearly, to gain power, to hold a secret, to finish a task). remember you will have to live with that boon. remember it will be easier without your heart. remember whoever you bargain with will have your heart, so try not to be too attached to it, or they'll use it against you. are you detached? are you sure? really sure? you're probably wrong.
the sixth: reach inside your chest and tear it out. place it, still beating, where it has been all along. it's about time you let them see it.

Yugioh S3 Ep 2: The VR Zone Has a Hell Ton of Trees
Alright guys I am regretting the hell out of this teriyaki ramen bowl I just ate, so it’s a better time than ever to go back into this VR arc. Now that the Big 5 have made their speech, all of them quite fat and one with a cane although he doesn’t even have a body anymore, they are ready to send everyone down a series of...plot-shaped holes.

Like they were JUST in some sort of tropic zone, to go back to here and then go somewhere else and so like--this is still VR I think? Like I’m assuming they went VR the moment they entered this room but it is quite vague at what point they were officially in VR. Was it when their vision went fwisssh and everyone split into RGB layers or was it that they got knocked out with gas quite a long time ago and were just unaware that it happened? Probably a bunch of these things.

With this announcement we find out that everyone--and I mean everyone--has to play cards now, although I’m pretty sure half of them have duel disks and the other’s are like...not equipped? I mean it’s VR, so hypothetically no one at all needs a duel disk anymore but you gotta sell toys, so no matter what, Yugi’s going to be lugging this heavy sharp thing on his wrist, even when he knows he will soon be shot down a wacky hole.

The title of last episode, ps was “VR Nightmare,” but like, it’s actually fairly pleasant, compared to the blimp hell we were dealing with just a few episodes back. I mean I guess people are actively trying to kill us here but when are they not?

The audacity of this show. Every state in the US has huge ass fake castles in it leftover from the Rockefeller era. Where else are our Moms supposed to drag us on Day Trips so we can get our history credit for Girl Scouts?
Americans are hella good at creating fake historical sites--all you need is a 50+ year old house and some turret work possibly made by a reasonably well known architect and it’s like “yeah that’s a good enough castle for me! Can we say it’s haunted, too? It’s hella haunted! Come to my castle B+B!”
(read more under the cut)
Tea landed in some concept art that kind of looks like the underside of a mushroom. I dunno how I’d classify this rock structure.

And then Kaiba landed in his worst nightmare which was being in a normal park with one single straight road but somehow still completely lost. At least Mokuba managed to fall into the same hole as his brother to ensure that Seto wouldn't be lost for like the rest of this arc. Which was actually kind of an unintentionally hilarious animation.

*rare shot of the Kaibas actually taking a break*
Man, this is the closest they’ve gotten to a real hug in kind of a while. Like when was the last time these bros hugged? Pegasus’ castle?
Meanwhile, Noah is admiring his work from this throne room and it would be a whole lot more intimidating if he wasn’t in calf-high black socks.

His outfit is like a white school uniform so what gives with the black socks? Like of all the things to complain about on Yugioh (especially since I see Yugi’s hair looking right at me in the next cap) those socks though. Those are pretty inappropriate with this outfit, Noah. Especially matched with this God Throne you’ve got going on. Did not see socks like that matched with a chair like this.
Meanwhile Yugi is all by himself but that doesn’t matter at all because he is 2 (3) people. This strategy to isolate everyone only really worked on Serenity and Joey, TBH, since Tea is also accompanied by slightlylessevil!Marik (who hasn’t really said anything since the VR started).

I knew Bakura would be out for a while, but I didn’t realize it meant everyone else wasn’t even going to once acknowledge it, it is baffling. I mean I get they’re super distracted right now but your friend is DEAD.

Honestly I would not mind if the big 5 succeeded and we had to see some old men try and work with Yugi’s hair and alt rock clothing, deal with Pharaoh sassing them from a brain labyrinth, go to Yugi’s school where people get savagely beat up like every other day, deal with Bakura and Marik trying to body snatch and other magic assholery during class breaks, and through all that watching the Big 5 attempt to take over the world with their megacorp that no longer sells guns but actually sells like...children’s entertainment supplies which include the dueling roombas from S1. How on Earth do they actually think that getting a body would help them at this point? They would be Yugi Muto and that is the last face anyone would ever take seriously.
Pharaoh pops up and is like “I guess we’re doing this right now? Really wish we weren’t doing this right now.”

Anyway, because they don’t physically exist in this digital world, neither do God Cards, or any other card in their deck. So, now they have to make new decks out of a pool. Very convenient for the writing team, bad news for Kaiba’s intense and vaguely romantic relationship with his Blue Eyes. Really glad we spent a full season talking about how much these cards meant to all these people, from the magicians, to Joey’s Red Eyes, and then that one card that was Mako Tsunami’s Dad or something--really glad we learned all of that to just completely erase it this arc.
I sounded sarcastic just now, I actually wasn’t for once, I am so glad to just purge my mind of all those card memories for a little while. Just allow myself to forget. Ah. My mind is already so much clearer. It feels so good. I am very much ok with this soft reset, I kinda needed it.
Since Yugi is supposed to choose a Deck Master from his set of cards for this particular type of duel monsters duel, he goes right for the dark magician--since that’s his MO, but for some reason Kuriboh chose himself? Like this greasy thing just hopped out of the card and played himself.

Anyway Kuriboh is now their new Pikachu and well...this show has done worse cute-character-that-does-literally-nothing-else type things to me, speaking of, lets see what Serenity is up to.

This is a digital hellscape, Serenity.
Serenity, you are going to die here.
Serenity.

So because I just realized just now in Season 3 that Duke’s necklace is a hot, over designed disaster (much like Duke himself) I figured I should like...see what this necklace is supposed to look like. So I typed into Google “duke devlin necklace” and guys, turns out there is a LOT of Yugioh jewelry--and I don’t mean like fanart (which there is also a lot), I mean like officially, a lot of people in this show wear a lot of jewelry and so it was sort of hard to find a good pic of a Duke Devlin specific necklace--especially since it feels like most people just go for the dice earring because that’s way easier.
But what’s interesting about the Duke Devlin necklace, at least from my quick search, is that when we bring it to the real world, it gets a little lost, like a game of telephone.
Cuz I assumed that was a clown on his necklace--and there’s quite a few clown necklaces, but I’m also seeing skulls, I’m seeing gothic crosses, I’m seeing spikes and knives instead of crosses. Bro thought it was a flower for some reason--I kinda blew his mind just now when I pointed out it was a clown. Some people think it’s made of silver, other people think it’s sort of painted? (I assumed the cross was entirely blinged out with rhinestones--my honest assumption) No one can actually agree. Especially since Duke apparently changed his necklace for the movie. I know that because it looks a lot like the Legend of Zelda emblem, and some people had the actual Legend of Zelda emblem mis-tagged as Duke Devlin. Which sucks a whole lot for their SEO, and sucked a whole lot for me in my search to find a real actual Duke Devlin necklace.
Like, feel free to attach a link to a reply -- is there an official physical Duke Devlin necklace that Yugioh inc sells? Like I just want to know--officially--what the hell I’m looking at.
Anyway, back to the show, much like everyone else, these two are hopelessly lost.

Kaiba seems to keep forgetting that his Dad is clearly behind all this and would obviously have his old tech but like...Kaiba forgets so much I can forgive him this.
So, faced with roads that lead no where, Tristan decides to do his tried and true method of solving all of his problems.

And at the other end of the VR zone Tea is getting kidnapped after...being kidnapped by Noah while she was already kidnapped by Marik. This is three levels of kidnap, yes?

OH SHOOT IS THAT A ONCE DOOR. DID SOMEONE DO WHAT I HOPE THEY DID? OH SHOOT.
I will read their fanfiction start to end I swear to you I will do it if it exists and I will report back to you who dates Captain Hook and who is related to Henry Mills.

OMG It didn’t exist.
You have got to be kidding me.
I am beside myself, this is the only property known to man that has not been turned into a OUAT fanfiction.
Incredible.
That or I’m just really bad at searching for fanfics since I haven’t actually read any since my LiveJournal days. Like, when you’re basically immune to shipping, as I am, you just really lose the desire to read about 90% of fanfiction.
Anyway, the closest we have to a OUAT Yugioh fanfiction, to my knowledge, is that cap I made just now right there. Your welcome, Once community.

This is absolutely made of load-bearing drywall. Why do none of the sets of windows line up with each other and how many stories is this? Like 2.5? And you can stand on the roof I guess because it has handrails? It’s super weird.
Anyway, I just made a OUAT joke and maybe it’s because I knew shortly after we were gonna get--that’s right--an orphanage flashback. OUAT was basically 6 seasons of effed up orphan flashbacks so I feel pretty well prepared. Like bro was worried how I’d handle this filler but y’all, I watched the Lily arc in OUAT. I can do anything.
*slaps hands together*
Totes ready for these boys to have been given up for adoption via a magical tree and a memory curse, only to find out their real parents are 3 years younger than them because of a time loop. Make it weird, Yugioh!
Anyway, as always, if you want a link to read these from the beginning in Chrono order and without any comments and all that jazz here’s a link
#Yugioh#photo recap#recap#S3 Ep2#yugi muto#seto kaiba#big 5#Noah#joey wheeler#tea gardner#duke devlin#tristan taylor#mokuba#Anyways I'm gonna go make cookies at 9 PM#because I have a headache and I feel like this will fix it somehow.

Best Games to Play in 2021
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
While 2020 was a landmark year for the gaming industry thanks to the release next-gen consoles and PC graphics cards, there are plenty of exciting new games coming in 2021. From highly-anticipated sequels like God of War: Ragnarok and Resident Evil Village to brand-new experiences such as Chorus and Deathloop, there’s plenty to look forward to this year.
To start the year off right, we’ve curated a list of the 2021 games we’re most excited about, including big AAA blockbusters as well as imaginative indie titles. Keep in mind that we’ve only included games that at the very least have a vague “2021” release window attached, which is why we’re not including games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel or Final Fantasy XVI. We’ll of course update this article as new 2021 titles are announced.
Here’s what you have to look forward to this year:
The Ascent
TBA | Neon Games | XSX, XBO, PC
The Ascent was originally planned as an Xbox Series X launch title before it slipped into 2021. A twin stick shooter at its core, The Ascent features a cover system as well as the ability to target high and low points on enemies, all in a destructible, open world cyberpunk setting. You can also fully customize your character with a variety augments.
Though Neon Games is a small studio, Epic Games was so impressed with early work on the title, that Neon was awarded a grant to help cover development costs. We’re really looking forward to this smaller take on the cyberpunk genre.
Axiom Verge 2
TBA | Thomas Happ Games | Switch
Metroidvanias from indie developers are a dime a dozen nowadays, but the original Axiom Verge stood out thanks to its tight controls, varied weapons, and compelling story. Axiom Verge 2 looks to largely be more of the same, but with even better graphics and more complex enemy patterns. The game has been in development for the past four years, but should finally be out in early 2021.
Balan Wonderworld
March 26 | Balan Company and Arzest | XSX, PS5, PS4, XBO, PC, Switch
Balan Wonderworld has positioned itself as a modern take on classic platformers of the 32-bit era. You’ll choose from one of two characters, exploring a variety of worlds mixing reality and imagination, but the real hook is the 80 different costumes that will unlock new abilities for your characters.
The game is being directed by Yuji Naka of Sonic the Hedgehog fame. And the trailer has already been favorably compared to his other seminal work, Nights into Dreams. Platformer fans won’t want to miss this one.
Back 4 Blood
June 22 | Turtle Rock Studios | XSX, PS5, PS4, XBO, PC
Valve may not have been able to get its act together to make a new Left 4 Dead game, but the developer behind the best-selling franchise has a spiritual successor in the works. Just like in Left 4 Dead, you’ll team up with three other players to take on waves of the undead in missions that change every time you play. There will also be a competitive 4v4 mode with one team taking the role of the zombies.
We went hands-on with the Back 4 Blood alpha, and so far, it does play a lot like Left 4 Dead with updated graphics, which isn’t a bad thing at all if you miss the classic horde shooter. The card system, which bestows interesting perks (and buffs) to players and zombies, does add a bit of variety to the usual formula that make this one a sleeper hit in the streaming world.
Bravely Default II
February 26 | Claytechworks | Switch
The first two Bravely Default games released on the 3DS were typical fantasy RPGs bolstered by their unique risk-reward battle system. Players could use brave points to stack up attacks for big damage, or default to save them up and take less damage in a turn. It kept those games fresh, even if they sometimes dragged on for too long.
Bravely Default II brings the series’ unique combat exclusively to the Switch for the first time. And true to its Final Fantasy inspirations, the characters and story will be completely original, so you don’t need any familiarity with the earlier games.
Chivalry 2
TBA | Torn Banner Studios | XSX, PS5, PS4, XBO, PC
Chivalry: Medieval Warfare was a huge multiplayer hit on the PC when it was released in 2012. Unfortunately, with lagging developer support, most of the community moved on to other games long ago. Now, Torn Banner is hoping to bring players back with the sequel, which boasts next-gen graphics, improved combat, and massive 64-player battles. Needless to say, Chivalry 2 could be the next big thing in multiplayer. The game is currently in Closed Alpha, so you might be able to check it out before release if you sign up here.
Chorus
TBA | Fishlabs | XSX, PS5, PS4, XBO, PC, Stadia
There’s been a serious lack of good third-person space combat shooters in recent years, but Chorus looks to rectify that. In this single-player game, you’ll play as Nara and her sentient ship Forsaken as they work together to track down the cult that created them in what Fishlabs is calling a “dark new universe.” It kind of looks like Goth Star Fox.
Unfortunately, we haven’t really seen anything more from Chorus since it was announced last summer. Hopefully, the radio silence ends soon.
CrossfireX
TBA | Smilegate Entertainment and Remedy Entertainment | XSX, XBO
CrossFire is a hugely popular tactical first-person shooter in China and South Korea, even though it’s barely made a mark in the West. Fortunately, Microsoft is bringing an updated version of the shooter exclusively to its consoles in hopes that it’ll catch on. Expect lots of tense, objective-based multiplayer action, and though the series isn’t known for its single-player, we’re looking forward to what Remedy can do with this mode hot on the heels of the excellent Control.
Like several of the titles on this list, CrossfireX was planned as a launch title for the Series X, but was delayed into 2021 due to development issues caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait that much longer for this one.
Deathloop
May 21 | Arkane Studios | PS5, PC
What if you could combine the movie Groundhog Day with the Hitman series? It’s likely that no one had actually asked that question before Deathloop. You play as Colt, an assassin stuck in a time loop on an island in the midst of a party that resets every day. You have to eliminate eight targets before midnight and avoid dying yourself, or you’ll end up at the beginning of the loop again.
Deathloop also features a multiplayer component that allows players to jump into your game as an assassin named Julianna, who is tasked with taking Colt down before he can complete his mission. This PvP aspect should result in some very interesting playthroughs.
While Microsoft now owns Arkane as part of its purchase of ZeniMax Media and Bethesda Softworks, don’t expect Deathloop on the Xbox any time soon. It’s still launching exclusively on the PS5 and PC.
Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny
TBA | Nippon Ichi Software | Switch
After a couple of well-received remakes, the first new Disgaea title in more than five years should be out in 2021. This time around, the offbeat story focuses on Zed, a zombie who attempts to use something called “super reincarnation” to stop the seemingly invincible God of Destruction who is slowly destroying all worlds.
While both the PlayStation 4 and Switch are dialed in for Japanese releases in January, so far only a Switch version has been announced for the West.
Evil Dead: The Game
TBA | Boss Team Games and Saber Interactive | XSX, PS5, PS4, XBO, PC, Switch
The Evil Dead movies are considered all-time horror classics, but success has always eluded the franchise in the world of video games. But that could be about to change. Announced at The Game Awards, Evil Dead: The Game sees Ash and friends taking on waves of Deadites on several maps, including the iconic cabin in the woods. Gameplay appears to be similar to Saber’s previous adaptation, World War Z, which was a solid title that never quite seemed to find an audience.
Far Cry 6
TBA | Ubisoft | XSX, PS5, PS4, XBO, PC, Stadia, Luna
By now we all know what to expect from Far Cry: hop into a tropical paradise, blow up a bunch of outposts, and methodically take back the land from the big bad guy. After a detour into the American wilderness with Far Cry 5, the next entry in the series heads to Yara, a fictional Caribbean country heavily based on Cuba. And with Giancarlo Esposito of Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian fame playing the big bad El Presidente, you know we’re in for some especially awesome villainy.
Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach
TBA | Steel Wool Studios | PS5, PS4, PC
The Five Nights at Freddy’s series has been terrorizing gamers for more than a half decade now, and Steel Wool Studio is looking to up the scares with the power of next-generation graphics. We don’t know how exactly the game will play yet, but the announcement video showcased a very cool looking shopping mall with an ‘80s motif. On the PS5 and PC, Security Breach will support real-time raytracing, so Freddy and the gang should look better than ever.
Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection
February 25 | Capcom | Switch
After a lengthy absence, the crushingly difficult Ghosts ‘n Goblins series is just a few weeks away from a new release. The debut trailer from The Game Awards shows off the series’ classic 2D gameplay, with the knight Arthur fighting his way through hordes of familiar enemies. Of course, the new graphics look much better than the old NES and SNES games.
Start honing those classic platforming skills now, because if Resurrection is anything like the previous games, you’re going to die. A lot.
Ghostwire: Tokyo
TBA | Tango Gameworks | PS5, PC
Tango Gameworks has only released two titles to date: The Evil Within and its sequel. Anyone who played those games can tell you, the developers know horror. With a variety of deformed enemies and a mind-bending plot, The Evil Within titles are two of the scariest games of the last decade.
Ghostwire: Tokyo is a brand new IP that moves the action to the third-person. Instead of the typical firearms, you’ll be dispatching ghosts with psychic powers. Expect an exceedingly creepy experience regardless.
God of War: Ragnarok
TBA | SIE Santa Monica Studio | PS5
Sony has said almost nothing about the next God of War game except that it’s coming next year. One thing we do know is that Ragnarok is the mythical battle leading to the death of the Norse gods. With Kratos’ history of deicide, it only makes sense that he’ll be killing a whole lot of them in the next game. The previous title also hinted at a showdown with Thor, the god of thunder (no, not the Marvel guy), which should be pretty epic.
Gotham Knights
TBA | WB Games Montreal | XSX, PS5, PS4, XBO, PC
Batman is finally returning to PC and consoles in 2021, or rather, his sidekicks are in Gotham Knights. With Batman and Commissioner Gordon apparently dead, it’s up to Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood to clean up the streets of Gotham. The entire campaign can be played solo or in two player co-op, with each player able to level up their character as they tackle increasingly difficult missions.
Guilty Gear Strive
TBA | Arc System Works | PS5, PS4, PC
The latest in the long-running Guilty Gear franchise should be out early in 2021 with some interesting new fighters as well as exciting returning characters. There will be a dedicated dash button and a new feature will let opponents who are knocked into walls cling to them. If you can land enough attacks, you will break through the wall and initiate a stage transition.
Arc has promised “a completely new Guilty Gear” with Strive. We’re not sure about that, but the trailers showcasing the franchise’s trademark mix of 2D and 3D graphics look better than ever.
Halo Infinite
Fall | 343 Industries | XSX, XBO, PC
After a disappointing reveal last July, Halo Infinite was bumped from the Series X launch to Fall 2021. The game has been described as both a sequel and a “spiritual reboot” for the series, so it will be interesting to see how far 343 Industries handles Cortana’s heel turn after the fan backlash Halo 5: Guardians received.
Many fans weren’t happy to hear more microtransactions will be added to Infinite in the form of “coatings” (shaders) that can be purchased to customize Spartans in multiplayer. It doesn’t help that players have yet to even see any multiplayer gameplay from Infinite.
Hopefully, the delay will give 343 the time it needs to put out a game that lives up to the series’ reputation.
Hitman III
January 20 | IO Interactive | XSX, PS5, PS4, XBO, PC, Switch, Stadia
IO’s rebooted Hitman games are among the most underrated titles of the last few years, streamlining the series’ once finnicky systems and placing Agent 47 in huge sandbox levels with more ways than ever to eliminate his targets. If you own the previous two games, you can import maps and progress to take advantage of Hitman III’s improvements on any platform, but only the PS4 version will support the PSVR headset for the ultimate Hitman experience.
Hogwarts Legacy
TBA | Avalanche Software | XSX, PS5, PS4, XBO, PC
Hogwarts Legacy is about the closest any of us will ever get to a Hogwarts acceptance letter. Set in the 1800s, you’ll get to choose your House, learn spells, brew potions, and live the life of a young wizard in an open world. But don’t think you’ll be stuck behind Hogwarts’ walls for the entire game. The trailer also showed off Hogsmeade and the Forbidden Forest.
Horizon Forbidden West
TBA | Guerilla Games | PS5, PS4
Thanks to its unique post-post-apocalyptic setting and fluid gameplay, Horizon Zero Dawn was one of the best open world games of the previous generation. The sequel looks to out do the original with even more varied environments like deserts, beaches, and the ruins of San Francisco. And there will of course be more mechanized prehistoric beasts than ever before.
While Forbidden West is coming to the PS4 as well, the PS5’s DualSense controller should provide the definitive experience thanks to its haptic feedback. You should finally be able to feel what it’s like for Aloy to pull back on her iconic bow.
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
TBA | Traveller’s Tales | XSX, PS5, PS4, XBO, PC, Switch
There have been plenty of Lego Star Wars games, including one that already adapted the “complete” saga, but this will be the first to feature the entire Sequel Trilogy. Even if you’ve played through those other games, The Skywalker Saga will feature never-before-seen levels and gameplay.
Traveller’s Tales promises an absolutely massive game, too. Each of the nine films features five levels, and the movies can be played through in any order. Nearly 500 playable characters are expected to be included in the final game. We’d love it if Mando and Grogu make the final cut, too.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum
TBA | Daedalic Entertainment | XSX, PS5, PS4, XBO, PC, Switch
Making a pure action game or an RPG based on The Lord of the Rings is the obvious choice, so it’s a pleasant surprise to see a developer try something different with the franchise. Since Gollum isn’t exactly known for his combat prowess, this titular adventure will largely focus on stealth, following the creature on an adventure set between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring. Unlike most recent Tolkien media, Gollum is based solely on the books and not the movies, so we should see some new visual takes on the usual orcs and trolls as well.
Mass Effect: Legendary Edition
Spring | BioWare | XSX, PS5, PS4, XBO, PC
Nearly a decade since its conclusion, the Mass Effect trilogy remains a favorite among many gamers. BioWare hasn’t commented too much about what to expect from this remaster, but we know the visuals will be upgraded to 4K, and all of the excellent post-launch DLC will be included. The developer has also promised other upgrades to bring the titles up to modern standards, so maybe we’ll see some changes to the first game’s finicky combat. And if Bioware is feeling particularly ambitious, we might even get a few hints as to what they have planned for the upcoming sequel.
The Medium
January 28 | Bloober Team | XSX, PC
Originally announced way back in 2012 for the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U, The Medium was shelved for years due to technological constraints before finally resurfacing in 2020. Gameplay focuses on a medium who can instantaneously travel between the real world and the spirit realm to solve puzzles, something that just wasn’t possible until the current crop of consoles adopted solid state drives.
Bloober Team has quietly built a reputation for itself excellent single-player horror games like Observer and Layers of Fear, and The Medium looks to be their best and most ambitious game yet.
Monster Hunter Rise
March 26 | Capcom | Switch
The excellent Monster Hunter: World helped the series find a large audience in the West, although the game’s more demanding performance requirements kept it off the Switch. But that’s okay because Rise is coming exclusively Nintendo’s portable-console hybrid. And rather than a watered down port of World, Capcom has said it’s a full-featured sequel with a new, more vertical map and all 14 weapon types from Monster Hunter: World and Monster Hunter Generations.Capcom has also announced that Rise will have some sort of compatibility with the upcoming Switch RPG Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, although we don’t know what that’ll entail just yet.
Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139…
April 23 | Square Enix | PS4, XBO, PC
Before Nier: Automata was hailed as one of the best games of the last generation, there was simply Nier, a quirky, slightly janky action RPG that nevertheless found a devoted fanbase on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Square Enix has been cagey on exactly what improvements we’ll see in Replicant, an updated version of the original, saying only that it’s somewhere between a remaster and a full remake.
The screenshots we’ve seen so far look absolutely gorgeous, and the combat system will also be updated to more closely resemble Automata’s gameplay. Considering that Nier‘s graphics and combat were criticized at the time, Replicant could end up being the definitive version of the experience.
No More Heroes III
TBA | Grasshopper Manufacture | Switch
Another game that was bumped into 2021 at the last minute, we actually haven’t seen that much from this one, even though it should be out soon. Screenshots show Travis Touchdown wielding his trademark beam katana and performing pro wrestling moves on enemies. And everything looks much better on the Switch than the first two games originally released on the Wii.
As we’ve all come to expect from Suda51 and Grasshopper Manufacture by now, the story sounds absolutely bonkers, involving a weird parody of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and aliens posing as superheroes who Travis must now defeat to save the world. It doesn’t make a ton of sense, but No More Heroes fans wouldn’t have it any other way.
The Outlast Trials
TBA | Red Barrels | PC
While The Outlast Trials will be the third game in the Outlast series, it won’t follow the plot of the previous games and instead will focus on the subjects of some sort of Cold War experiment. Those earlier games didn’t feature any combat, instead forcing you to evade enemies to survive, and it’s a safe bet that The Outlast Trials will follow a similar gameplay structure. It’ll also feature four-player co-op, a first for the horror series. Knowing Red Barrels, you should expect something really scary.
Outriders
February 22 | People Can Fly | XSX, PS5, PS4, XBO, PC
Outriders combines the shooter and RPG genres in some unique and engaging ways. At the start of the game, you’ll pick from one of four classes: the time manipulating Trickster, fire-controlling Pyromancer, the seismic-powered Devastator, or the Technomancer, each of whom has a full-featured skill tree. The three-player drop-in, drop-out gameplay showed so far looks a lot like Gears of War with sci-fi powers. Some have compared the title to live service games like Destiny and The Division, but People Can Fly says that’s not accurate and that Outriders features a story campaign with a definitive ending.
Persona 5 Strikers
February 23 | Omega Force and P-Studio | PS4, PC, Switch
It’s a tradition at this point for Atlus to spin-off a Persona game into as many other titles as possible. We’ve already seen rhythm and dungeon crawler spin-offs of Persona 5 (and even a Super Smash Bros. cameo from Joker), but this will be The Phantom Thieves’ first foray into the hack and slash genre. Gameplay is a mix of the usual Dynasty Warriors combo attacks, but there will also be turn-based persona battles as well. And of course, expect plenty of Persona 5’s usual style and flare.
Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis
TBA | Sega | XSX, XBO, PC
Wait, didn’t Phantasy Star Online 2 just come out? Well yes, but only in the West. Japan has been playing the game since 2012, which is why the MMORPG might feel a little dated. New Genesis is a half update-half sequel with updated combat, and for the first time in the series, open world areas. It’s more like the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn update instead of a whole new game. The best part is that you’ll be able to transfer over your character from PSO 2 to New Genesis, and like its predecessor, it will be completely free-to-play.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake
March 18 | Ubisoft | PS4, XBO, PC
The Sands of Time was arguably the best game of the PS2 era, which is why a remake is long overdue. Fan reception regarding the new art style has been mixed, though it certainly does look better than the original 2003 release. But how this remake plays remains to be seen.
While lauded for its tight platforming and time-bending mechanics, The Sands of Time always suffered from lackluster combat. Let’s hope Ubisoft has ironed out all of the kinks with this remake, though.
Originally planned for a January release, Ubisoft recently pushed the game back to March 18, so we’ll have to wait just a little bit longer for the return of the Prince.
Psychonauts 2
TBA | Double Fine | XSX, PS5, PS4, XBO, PC
Fans have been waiting for a Psychonauts sequel for 15 years now. Fortunately, it looks like Double Fine’s follow up will finally see the light of day in 2021. The first game was praised for its varied levels and puzzles, and Psychonauts 2 will again see Raz delving into the psyches of other characters, with hilarious and frightening results. Raz won’t be completely alone for this journey as Double Fine has announced that he will be joined by a new glowing companion voiced by Jack Black.
Rainbow Six Quarantine
TBA | Ubisoft | XSX, PS5, PS4, XBO, PC
Rainbow Six Siege is still one of the most popular multiplayer games on the market years after its release, which is why Ubisoft isn’t looking to get in the way of its own success with Quarantine. While Siege focuses on PvP combat, Quarantine takes its inspiration from that game’s popular limited time Outbreak mode. In this spin-off, teams of three work together to eliminate an alien threat controlled by the AI in dynamic missions. The game won’t be completely independent from Siege though, with at least some of its roster of operators also being playable in Quarantine.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
TBA | Insomniac games | PS5
There hasn’t been a bad Ratchet & Clank game yet, and Rift Apart seems poisted to continue that trend. The basic gameplay will be similar to the excellent 2016 reboot, but Insomniac is taking advantage of the power of the PS5’s SSD to introduce instant travel between completely different worlds. From what we’ve seen in gameplay trailer so far, the mechanic is very impressive in action. Equally stunning are the game’s visuals, which will support real-time raytracing and full 4K resolution.
Resident Evil Village
TBA | Capcom | XSX, PS5, PC
Resident Evil Village is a direct sequel to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, but don’t call it Resident Evil 8, as Capcom is emphatic that the focus will be on the mysterious occurrences in a European village and not the larger Resi universe. From the one trailer we’ve seen, we know that Ethan Winters will be returning from the previous game, and this time around he’ll be joined by series regular Chris Redfield.
Gameplay will again be in first-person, so you should notice quite a few similarities with Resi 7, but with improved graphics and much shorter load times since this will be one of the first major next-gen releases that won’t have a PS4 or Xbox One version.
Scorn
TBA | Ebb Software | XSX, PC
Scorn looks like an absolute nightmare, but in the best possible way. It is, after all, directly inspired by the art of H.R. Giger of Alien fame and Polish painter Zdzisław Beksiński. In Scorn, you play as a skinless humanoid searching for answers in a horrific techno-organic open world. At the very least, it promises to be the most disturbing title of the year.
Shin Megami Tensei V
2021 | Atlus | Switch
While the Persona spin-off series gets most of the attention nowadays, the original Shin Megami Tensei franchise is still going strong, and the latest title in the long-running series should be out worldwide next year.
This is the first Shin Megami Tensei developed using the Unreal Engine 4, so it should look fantastic, but expect similar gameplay to previous titles, including turn-based combat and lots of negotiating with demons to try to get them to join your party.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury on Switch
February 12 | Nintendo | Switch
When it was released in 2013, Super Mario 3D World was easily one of the best Mario games in years, effortlessly combining the 3D movement of newer games in the series with the level design and multiple characters of the original NES games. You could play as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Toad, or Rosalina, and they could each don catsuits that opened up all sorts of new platforming opportunities. But maybe 10 people played it because no one bought the Wii U.
Nintendo hasn’t said exactly what Bowser’s Fury is, but based on the trailer, a few new levels seem like a safe bet. Even if there aren’t a ton of new features, this is a welcome re-release of an underrated gem. And it will definitely be played more widely on the Switch.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2
TBA | GSC Game World | XSX, PC
The original S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games were praised for their horrifying atmosphere, survival horror gameplay, and unique setting in the radioactive Chernobyl zone. Even now, almost 14 years after its release, Shadow of Chernobyl holds up pretty well, even if the graphics are dated.
At this point, we know more about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2’s troubled development than the game itself. The title was first announced in 2010, cancelled in 2012, and then revived in 2018. The trailer released in 2020 looks promising though, and Microsoft has announced that the game will be available via Game Pass on release day.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
TBA | Hardsuit Labs | XSX, PS5, PS4, XBO, PC
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 may be the most unlikely sequel of 2021. The original game, released in 2004 exclusively for the PC, was a sales flop, criticized for its poor combat and myriad technical issues. Still, anyone who powered through the game was treated to some sharp writing and top-notch roleplaying. Needless to say, the game has built up a sizable fanbase over the years, with fan mods resolving many of its technical issues.
Bloodlines 2 moves the series to Seattle, with a new storyline emphasizing the struggle between vampire and human. Gameplay, which will mostly be in the first-person, focuses on choice, from which factions you side with to how you tackle each mission. If Hardsuit can avoid the technical problems that plagued the first game, this could be the redemption story of the year.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide
TBA | Fatshark | XSX, PC
Fatshark’s previous Warhammer Vermintide games were among the best co-op titles of the last generation, featuring heart-pumping four-player multiplayer action against hordes of rat men. The latest installment, Darktide, has a lot in common with previous Vermintide games, except that the setting has moved to the sci-fi-heavy Warhammer 40,000 universe. Players will control members of the Inquisition, who are sent on a mission to exterminate a heretical cult known as The Admonition. The game will feature the same visceral melee combat as its predecessors, but this time all that killing is done for the glory of the God Emperor.
Werewolf: The Apocalypse-Earthblood
February 4 | Cyanide | XSX, PS5, PS4, XBO, PC
Despite their lengthy history in folklore, there have been remarkably few games that let you play as a werewolf. So, while there’s admittedly not much competition, Earthblood is already looking like the definitive lycanthrope experience.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
You play as Cahal, a werewolf seeking redemption in the Pacific Northwest after accidentally killing a member of his tribe. The game will feature the obligatory player choices and skill tree, but the real is the ability to shift between human, wolf, and werewolf forms at will. Should be interesting!

Basic Carp Fishing Pointers
Frustrating as it is, carp fishing is awesome. Carp are really good at sucking in and blowing out suspicious baits. It’s such an exciting thing to see the whole action in a fraction of a second as you hang on for dear life while the reel is trembling with a loud noise.
Carp happily devour on the surface as long as you keep the pellets, biscuits, chic peas, bread and re-hydrated corn coming in and these are inexpensive baits as well. Just attach them to the hooks, most preferably the bread. Have the biscuits softened by dipping them in the water for about 2 minutes then place them in a sealed sandwich bag for about an hour. Since different brands have different textures just experiment to know which is firm enough to cast. Another way to hook baits is super gluing the pellet into the shank.
Once they get into feeding let them feel comfortable around the bait. This gives more opportunity for the fisherman since they begin to not feel picky. This tactic can be useful for zig rigs.
As soon as they’re feeding cast the bait but make sure not to drop the bait directly onto the feeding carp. Cast away from the feeding area then slowly draw it into position. While the bait is till hanging keep the food coming in so as to keep the carp from going away.
How to Set-Up?
• Use a hair rig to increase your chance of catching the fish. As carp taste food first, if they don’t like the taste they won’t come near it.
• You may also use a Spider Line, 50 lbs test, then use a leader material that fits the situation.
• Thread the bait on the baiting needle and hook the hair loop. You may also use foam dipped in a flavor as this enhances the attractiveness of the bait.
• Also make a baiting needle by just straightening a long shank hook. Slide the bait on the shank then slide the bait from the needle onto the hair.
• Using a float is also an advantage because it adds weight for further distancing and the location is easily identified.
• Don’t forget the controller float rig. A leader can be used which is attached to the swivel to its mainline of at least 3 feet length with a 10lbs Drennan double strength. A low diameter mono will do just as long as it floats well enough for visibility.
As experts say, it is not the bait that catches the carp but the method in which the bait is introduced. Pre-bait everyday in one spot for a few days. This makes the carp think that there is a regular source of food for them and by “word of mouth” they'll soon be a school of fish around. Just be patient and it will all work out.

Different Attachment Methods
After my sound tests with the marimba prototype, I was trying to find ways to reduce vibrations from each key travelling to the other keys, after getting some unwanted triggering where the pickups on the surrounding keys would sound when I was hitting the desired key.
The advice from the hive mind was that the screws I was using to connect the keys and rubber to the frame, were likely to be the biggest culprits, transferring the vibrations from the hit down into the frame and subsequently up into the other keys.
A few alternative methods were suggested - using glue to attach the pieces to the frame and key, using Hook & Loop picture hanging hooks ( like a very strong velcro ) or some combination. OR using a piece of rubber tubing to shield the screw so that it wasn’t actually touching the key and shock absorber. The other angle to work on was the suggestion that using a softer material for shock absorbing than the ugg boot rubber I was using would be more effective - the more the key could actually move and vibrate, the less vibration would be transferred to the other parts. I tried out several of these methods and took some slow motion videos without plugging the marimba in, just to see the different responses to pressure, mallet hits and how much rebound ( or bounce ) I could get for each of the different attachment methods. From LEFT to RIGHT I’m using: A) Very soft, springy foam, glued to the frame, with they key attached with HOOK and LOOP picture hanging tabs
B) Screw going all the way, shielded by rubber tubing on top of the frame, all on ugg boot rubber
C) This is very similar but I made this one slightly differently and the rubber actually goes down into the frame a bit as well. This seems to work much better, there is a lot of room for the key to move up and down, but it is still firmly attached.
The key is only touching the rubber tubing at first, which in turn is supported by the ugg boot rubber. The ugg boot rubber is also slightly elevated from the frame, it’s not entirely touching it on the bottom when the key is not depressed. The key has a lot of movement around the screw for this one.
D) Uggboot rubber glued to the frame, with the key attached with HOOK and LOOP picture hanging tabs
Pressure Test
youtube
Really interesting to see the different ways the keys move. A moves far too much, B not enough. C and D are the best - although D had a tendency for the key to detach entirely from the rubber
Hitting Test
youtube
Hitting A feels very strange because of how much it moves... B, C and D all feel pretty normal although D feels the best because it wobbles the least.
Rebound Test
youtube
Big difference here - D has easily the most rebound because it is the firmest. A has almost no rebound because the key moves so much, absorbing all the force. B and C feel alright although not as good as D.
RESULTS - ( not plugged in )
The springy foam (A) is not good for both the feel of hitting it and the rebound. The D setup felt the best although came off entirely during all my tests which is definitely not usable. I’ll have to play around with this further because the A key also used the hook and loop tabs and never came loose.
Keys B and C probably worked the best, so now we’ll have to see how they perform plugged in in terms of actually reducing triggering to the peizos!

Rockin’ Around the Oyster Tree: Day 3
On Black Friday, construction began!

[ID: a package of small green zip ties and a pair of snippers in front of a roll of green chicken wire on a brown paper covered table ]
So it turns out the pattern I made was somewhat useless, mainly because our roll of coated chicken wire was only half the height of the tomato cage we were wrapping so we had to cut wedges into both layers to make them lay properly on the conical frame. Oh well.
We still got some use from the pattern though; I used it to protect the tabletop we were working on.

[ID: a man wraps green chicken wire around a red tomato cage set on a table in a garage]
I always forget how stiff chicken wire is & expect it to unroll as easily as a roll of paper, but you actually have to bend it out of its roll.
We attached it to the frame with tiny zip ties - we used the green ones Dad had because of course we’re using the ones in festive colors - starting at the bottom to be sure we had enough to go around the widest part.

[ID: a view down the barrel of a red tomato cage wrapped in green chicken wire set on a table toward the widest part of the cage where a man attaches the wire to the cage with zip ties, the ends of which all point inwards]
Then we cut wedges out of the upper edge of the wire. We positioned them so that the cut edges of the wire came together along the vertical supports of the cage so we could zip tie them together & to avoid weak points in the structure of the tree. We did do the math on how much the circumference of our upper ring differed from our larger, lower ring but in the end that measurement was only useful as a starting point & we mostly eyeballed it on how much wire to cut out.
This part we had to pioneer our techniques on since we didn’t fit the wire to the frame this carefully on last year’s oyster tree. (On that one we just folded in an overlap on the wire & scrunched until it lay sorta flat.) One of the things Dad figured out pretty quickly was to cut near the point of the hexagons in the wire leaving long struts at the edges which could be folded back to hook over the adjoining edge - sorta zipper-like - or the vertical support, reducing the number of zip ties needed & increasing overall structural integrity.

[ID: rough wedges of green chicken wire laid on a brown parer-covered table ]
We had to cut a lot more out of the top than we expected, partially because we had to use the pressure exerted by the chicken wire to bend the ends of the tomato cage together into a point since they don’t naturally meet. It made the top of this one look so much better than the first one we made though.

[ID: green chicken wire being loosely wrapped around the small end of a red tomato cage]
Now we light the tree!
This we did pretty much the exact same way as on the first tree with one important step added: we twist tied the plug end to frame were we wanted it to emerge from the tree so we wouldn’t have to worry about pulling our trailing cord up into the tree if we wren’t holding it.
We had the plug emerge next to where the original edges of the wire overlapped because that’s the “ugliest” part of the whole thing & thus the “back” (in quotes because there really isn’t a proper back to these trees, but that’s how I think about it).

[ID: the male plug end and a few inches of wire from a string of multicolored Christmas lights sticking out from were it is twist tied to the rim of a red cage wrapped in green chicken wire. A bundle of the rest of the lights are visible inside the cage]
Our method is to run the string of lights vertically up & down the inside of the tree structure, positioning the actual lights so they poke out of the chicken wire. This makes it so the oyster shells won’t cover them & means we’ll be able to replace a burnt out bulb with fairly little fuss when that eventually becomes a concern. More zip ties were used to secure the lights to the cage ‘cause we have a bajillion of ‘em & they’re effective, even if I do have to go through & snip off all the sticky-outy ends.

[ID: the wire tree structure laid on its side on a table. A line of multicolored Christmas lights pokes out of it while most of the string of lights emerges from the open bottom of the tree]
The issue with this method is it means someone has to be able to stick their hands in at the top of the tree to pull the string of lights up into that part of the structure - and by someone I mean me, as the one of the two of us who doesn’t have giant man hands - which means we had to undo some of our wire wrapping so I could get my arm in there.
This gets more annoying the further into stringing the lights we are as, for reasons of even distribution, the lights don’t have to come as far up the inside on later loops as they do on the first few which means I have to get my arm down farther into the thing on each loop. Also, I have to pull my arm back out every time we rotated the thing ‘cause it wouldn’t spin smoothly around my arm. There’s not really a good alternative though, so whatever; I’ll cope.

[ID: the fully strung tree structure. Small red, yellow, green, and blue lights bristle out of a conical wire cage]
The trailing end of the lights is always a bit of an issue because we can’t really adjust our loops so the string comes out evenly, which means we either have an under-lit or an over-lit section at the bottom of the tree. We opted for the latter but positioned it near the “back” of the tree, folding the female end of the string up into the tree as far as it would go.
I don’t think it’s visible in the picture, but I actually had to use two zip ties because I frickin’ missed the chicken wire with the first one, only getting it around the plug so it did absolutely nothing to attach the plug to the cage. Embarrassing, but given that that was the biggest actual mistake of the whole project I’ll take it.

[ID: the female plug end of a string of multicolored Christmas lights zip tied to the inside of a cage of green chicken wire between two vertical lines of the same lights]
Last year, I mildly gouged my thumb on armature wire making jump rings. This year I merely scratched the heck out of my hands on the chicken wire, so that’s a step up from before. I did have gloves - you can even see them on the table in a couple of the pictures in this post! - I just didn’t wear them because they kept getting caught while I was trying to get my hands in & out of the cage and I got frustrated & gave up on them.

[ID: a white left hand palm down with scratches on the wrist and along the second metacarpal]
With the lights in we could finally start hanging oyster shells!
I work bottom up so I can overlap the shells a bit & cover the jump rings they hang from. It also makes it easier to get pliers in there to help close the rings I can’t do by hand. I try to place shells so they fit around lights & each other without leaving too big of a gap between them.

[ID: the tree structure on a table with oyster shells hung along the bottom edge]

[ID: the tree structure on the table about a third hung with overlapping oyster shells. There are more shells on the table around it]
Unfortunately, because we had a lot fewer large shells & I hung them closer together, my estimate of how many shells we would need based on a rough count of how many were on the first oyster tree (about 90) was WAY off for this one. I ran out of shells about a third of the way up the tree, at which point we had to stop & go put more shells in to bleach clean. I also ran out of jump rings so that was the end of work for the day.

Something awesome update #03 - Learning powershell & Major work finished
Spent the past week exploring how idiot I am:
Summary: Now that I’ve finished the scripts for password stealing (Windows) using Mimikatz and file exfiltration (OSX), just a few more tests needed to be done to adjust the delay time to the system response speed.
The script for password stealing basically downloads Mimikatz from GitHub repository, runs the Mimikatz.exe corresponding to the 32/64-bit system, puts in some simple commands then outputs the activity log to designated folder, which is sent to the attacker’s burner-email. All evidences, including files downloaded and created, windows run history and command line history, are cleared.
ToDo: Video on the threats of rubber ducky; ways to prevent the above attacks and other attacks by ducky in general.
Major progress:
Had no experience with powershell at all, so did a bit research before I started to figure out the correct way to implement my idea. Some of the methods, such as invoke-WebRequest, did not work for me and I wasted a few hours figuring out that it’s probably due to different versions. So I searched up some methods that actually worked for my powershell 2.0 (E.g. System.Net.WebClient).
Spent a solid day on trying to figure out why I couldn’t download file using System.Net.WebClient. Error message read: “Exception calling"DownloadFile" with "2" argument(s):"An exception occurred during a webClient request.” Somehow in the first few hours I searched up “web client access denied” instead of “web client exception” which showed no useful information and got me stuck in a deadlock. Eventually I was reminded of my own stupidness by solution here - the second parameter should have the filename appended to the path as well.
Then, half a day of research was dedicated to “the remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden”. The eureka moment was brought by this answer, which suggested that the problem might be “Scripts should use an informative User-Agent string with contact information, or they may be IP-blocked without notice.” So I went on to search up how to set up user-agent header in powershell, and this dude here saved my life.
To unzip the downloaded mimikatz: this solution here doesn’t really work for me, so after an hour of trial-and-error I simply got rid of the loop and it worked…computer is amazing.
Attempted to send email via smtp but error message popped up “server not specified” when trying SMTPInfo.send. This dude suggests a possibility of firewall rules blocking access to server, but requires testing with telnet. Research was done to figure out how to install telnet. Tested “telnet 101.198.198.198 587” resulted in “cannot open connection to server. Port 587: Connection failed”. Another half of day of research was dedicated to hook that connection up :( Some suggested to add inbound and outbound rule to allow port 587 to connect to ISP server, but sadly that did not work for me.
Changed the port from 587 to 25 solved the problem. Speechless.
Gmail automatically blocks email from suspicious senders, so in order to receive the attachment we have to enable less secure apps in Google Account of our burner email. Aw, Google you’re nice and ethical.
Researched on how to clear up Windows run history. This solution pointed me the right direction. Further research such as here, here and here allowed me to arrive at the right place.

Okay. I was scrolling through your blog, and saw the wire hanger post. My girlfriend has a huge, CLAMP artbook Nunnally vi Brittania dress that must weigh at least ten pounds. The only way I've gotten it to stay hanging (due to the weight and the off the shoulder design) is to bend the wire hangers so when it's hanging, it looks like an organza zombie in my closet. But I don't want it to tear like that jacket! How else can I hang it so it's safe? Should I be good with padding the hangers?
This is a great question! Hanging heavy garments can often strain the fabric or cause unwanted stretching, even on non-wire hangers. Depending on the particular style of the dress, you have a few possible solutions.
Option 1: Install hanger straps.
You know those annoying little ribbons that attach at the armpits in a lot of commercial formalwear? They’re actually really helpful for preventing fabric strain and preserving the integrity of clothing in storage. You can make your own hanger straps by sewing loops of grosgrain ribbon, cord, or twill tape to the strongest structural part of the garment (usually that’s inside the top of the bodice, though on some really heavy dresses it may be at the waist) and use those to support the dress on the hanger.
This option is the best solution for garments that have open shoulders, spaghetti straps, or delicate material at the top.
For example: The material over the shoulders of this gown is thin elastic mesh, which can’t support the weight of all the beads and ruffles (it’s actually quite heavy!):

On this dress, the hanger straps (which are made of a strong shoelace-like cord) are sewn in at the reinforced waistband:

When I’m wearing the dress, the straps just hang down inside and aren’t visible. But in storage, the straps hook over the hanger and support the entire weight of the skirt. The delicate shoulder elastic only rests on the hanger to retain its shape, so there’s no risk of it stretching or tearing.

While not strictly necessary for structural reasons, hanger straps can also be a good way to hang skirts or trousers on a regular coat hanger, if you want to store all the pieces of a costume together!
Option 2: Pad the hanger.
I curate a large antique clothing collection, with some pieces dating back to the 1830s. These garments are extremely fragile; a wire hanger would tear right through the material! When I must use a hanger, I pad it by wrapping it in thick layers of quilt batting, then in unbleached muslin (to avoid chemical damage to the vintage material). The wider and more padded the surface, the better, as spreading the weight over a larger area helps reduce strain on the fabric.
This method is best for very fragile garments, or for fabric that is likely to stretch or lose its shape.
Example: This cheap plastic hanger has been padded with batting and muslin to better support the shoulders of an 1860s Civil War militia coat:

If you don’t feel like making your own, you can also buy commercial padded hangers for just a few dollars. They’re usually sold in the lingerie section (though I’ve actually seen them at the dollar store, on rare occasions!).

Option 3: Store it flat.
Some costumes just aren’t hanger-friendly. Just as wedding dresses are often preserved in flat boxes to prevent hanging damage, very long or oddly-shaped costume garments are sometimes better off stored flat. If you have the space, you can carefully fold costume pieces and place them in a dresser drawer or a large box.
This is great for sheer or delicate garments that can’t safely go on a hanger, as well as pieces that are too bulky or too long to hang efficiently in a closet.
For example, because of its odd shape (the skirt collapses without the steel hoops underneath, and the dress has a four-foot train off the back) and the thin, delicate silk it’s made of, this dress can’t really be kept on a hanger without damage. Instead, I store the whole thing rolled up loosely in a large box.

Any clean, sturdy box or storage bin will do the job, though if you’re thinking of preserving your costume long-term, you’ll want to find something that breathes (not solid plastic!) and is acid-free. Breathable nonwoven fabric boxes are pretty easy to find. You can also buy acid-free garment storage boxes. These archival boxes came from The Container Store, and are sized to fit under a bed. (The prices have gone up a lot since I bought mine, though, so keep an eye out for coupons and/or sales if you’re looking for something like this!)

When folding delicate fabrics for storage, it’s a good idea to loosely roll some fabric or acid-free tissue paper to pad inside the folds, so you don’t end up with hard creases in the material. Creases create weak spots in the fiber, and can damage the fabric over time.
For example, this antique garment is too long to fit in the box, so it must be folded over on itself. I’ve rolled up some unbleached cotton batting to place inside the fold:

Now when the delicate material is folded back, it is supported in a loose curve rather than being pressed into a crease:

There you go! Storing costumes can be challenging, but in the end it’s worth the effort to prevent damage to a costume you really care about. I hope this helps you find a storage solution that works for your dress!

Introduction to Some Common Cable Ties
For better cable management, there are various methods put forward and the corresponding devices have been published, including cable ties, labels, cable managers and so on. In contrast to other devices, the cable tie, as a tie for holding cables together, seems not special at all, which may be easy to be ignored when deploying the network. But is this statement right? Doesn’t the cable tie play an important role in getting rid of messy cables? In fact, it is of great importance for getting cable well managed and able to improve the working efficiency of the network deployment. If you choose the right kind of cable tie to deploy your network, you can gain a neat and smooth wired network in a very fast manner, just like the cabling network shown in the following figure.

Nowadays there are several kinds of cable ties available on the market for different applications, which feature different colors, sizes and materials. Since both of them can be got at very low prices, you are highly suggested to choose a most suitable cable tie to manage the cable and make your system neat. Which kind of cable tie is proper for your system? The following will introduce some common cable ties, guiding you to select one type that really meets your need.
Self-locking Cable Tie
Self-locking cable tie is one of the most widely used cable tie that has a flexible nylon tape with an integrated gear rack on one side and a ratchet within a small open case on one end. Its oval lock structure is a very classical design for easy and fast installation that facilitates the firm locking of the cable. Compared with other cable ties, the self-locking cable tie is shorter and thinner so that it is a good choice to be used in small spaces and light wire management. Besides, this kind of cable tie can be available in various colors, as shown in the following figure. From the figure, you can also learn its structure advantage that its curved tip is easy to pick up from flat surfaces and allows faster initial threading to speed installation.

Stainless Steel Cable Tie
Clearly different from the self-locking cable tie made up of nylon, the stainless steel cable tie is made of steel as its name implies. This kind of cable tie has the ability to withstand the temperature ranging from -100 to +1000 degrees Fahrenheit and has a tensile strength of 100 lbs. Hence, you can use it in the environment with extreme temperature or where additional strength is needed. Meanwhile, it is also of high rotproofness so that it can be applied in the application with corrosive chemicals. Due to its low and high temperature resistance, high tensile strength and high rotproofness, the stainless steel cable tie is the first choice to manage the cable in the extreme environment as mentioned above.

Velcro Cable Tie
Velcro cable tie, also referred to as hook and loop cable tie, is made of a self-attaching hook and loop material. In comparison with the previous two cable ties, the greatest advantage of velcro cable tie is that it can be reusable and adjustable to support frequent moves, adds, and changes of cables. Therefore, it is very convenient for cable management in factory or household applications.

From the figure above, it is easy to learn that the velcro cable tie is also available in different colors and usually ordered in rolls. When you decide to use this kind of cable tie to manage the cables in your system, you can choose one color of cable tie to manage one kind of cable and cut it down to any length you want for easy management and use. Besides, there are also many other types of velcro cable ties with different shapes such as the T type velcro cable tie, the voltage type velcro cable tie and the buckle velcro cable tie.
Conclusion
Cable tie is really a cost-effective tool for deploying the network if there are large amount of cables in the cabling network. At present, there are various kinds of cable ties published for different application, such as self-locking cable tie, stainless steel cable tie and velcro cable tie mentioned above. The self-locking cable tie is a good choice to be used in small spaces for it shorter and thinner character, while the stainless steel cable tie is very suitable for extreme environment such as very low or high temperature or high corrosivity. As for the velcro cable tie, it is reusable and adjustable to support frequent moves, adds, and changes of cables. Considering that the cable tie can be simply and fast installed to completely get rid of messy deployment and ensure the performance of the devices in the network, you are highly recommended to choose a proper kind of cable tie to manage the cables in your network.
