founded in 1683, the botanic garden is one of the oldest botanic gardens in the world and a must see when visiting amsterdam. its diversity is fascinating and at the same time it is an oasis of calm in the bustling city.

the photos are a mix of analogue and digital images taken in the summer of 2024.

der 1683 gegründete botanische garten, gehört mit zu den ältesten botanischen gärten der welt und wenn man amsterdam besucht, sollte man ihn nicht auslassen. seine vielfältigkeit in der bepflanzung ist faszinierend, gleichzeitig ist der garten aber auch eine oase der ruhe in der quirligen großstadt.

21-7 D-day Tromsø-2

Gisterenavond bakte ik een entrecote, die ik met de rest van de glutenvrije tagliatelle en een zak wortels opat. Ik vind mijn appartementje geen succes, op de wasmachine na dan. Het is donker, koud en vochtig en het laminaat staat bol. Er hangen twee televisieschermen, maar er valt niks op te zien, of je moet je eigen laptop met chromecast bij je hebben. Vlak boven de kookplaat hangt een soort rookmelder, die elke keer de pitten uitschakelde als er iets teveel stoom uit de pannen kwam. En tot slot en dan hou ik er over op, boven mij rende een klein kind de hele avond brullend van links naar rechts, terwijl het van alles omsmeet.

Vanmorgen slaap ik uit tot half acht, daarna droog ik de nog vochtige was op het elektrische kacheltje en hang beetje rond tot een uur of elf. Ik kan pas om drie uur het andere hotel in, dus ik besluit naar de hortus botanicus van de universiteit te gaan, waar je ook koffie kunt drinken en wafels eten en om inspiratie op te doen voor mijn eigen tuin! Ik maak fotootjes van alles wat ik leuk vind (en van de naambordjes uiteraard).

Intussen zit Mayke op Schiphol te wachten, met een overstap in Oslo komt ze om 18.10 vanavond aan. Haar vlucht lijkt geen last te hebben van de computerstoring op Schiphol, volgens de website vertrekt ze op tijd.

Dit is ook een goede dag om de ingekomen post weer eens door te nemen. H.K. uit N.S. schreef: Beste Frans, elke dag lees ik je relaas, bewonderend, medelijdend, lachend en "tjesus, moet je nou weer horen B.". A.L. uit L. vroeg wat het hoogtepunt van de reis wordt, het halen van de Noordkaap of de komst van Mayke naar Tromsø. Mijn antwoord was dat ik fietsen met Mayke het belangrijkst vind, als we die Noordkaap niet halen, is het ook OK. H.S. uit Z. heeft geprobeerd op een elektrische fiets zonder versnellingen door de Limburgse heuvels te fietsen, maar dat ging niet echt. Je hebt toch versnellingen nodig. En ze wenst ons veel fietsplezier samen toe. B.W.P. a/b Northstar Innovator leest de verslagen met plezier en constateert dat ik het niet zwaar heb. Wat mij tot de conclusie brengt dat ik mijn ontberingen op deze tocht niet dik genoeg heb aangezet.

Na de hortus hing ik nog wat rond aan de haven, in havens is altijd wat te zien. Vervolgens inchecken in het hotel dat Mayke geboekt had en toen naar de luchthaven. En daarmee begint een hele nieuwe fase in deze trip.

i mean that's pretty close to den haag and amsterdam so i would plan a day trip to both and also definitely visit the hortus botanicus of leiden

we’re definitely doing den haag rotterdam amsterdam and we’re gonna go into the van gogh museum and my bf wants to go cycling across amsterdam and i will make sure to tell him about the hortus botanicus thank u it looks rlly cute i love gardens 🫶🫶🫶

I actually take my bf to the botanical gardens regularly. We have one called De Hortus Botanicus here in Amsterdam and we love looking at all the cacti in the Desert Room and the carnivorous plants in the Jungly Room (not official names by the way).

My favourite thing that ever happened there was when he saw this:
