This isnt the original Kris - Deltarune Theory(in progress)
Warning: there are spoliers for chapters 3&4 Quick intro - I was thinking what if the body of Kris we control in Deltarune isn't actually the original kris? I'm not saying that it isn't Kris, just that theres something weird going on behind it. Kris very clearly has their own personality that is shown through the Kris we control, but I feel like theres something more to it. I'm not usually one to create theories and I feel like there could be more to this/better explanations, but I can't stop thinking about it so thought it would be interesting to share! Theres not really any concrete evidence for this, just thoughts I had!
So the theory/ramble is under the cut:
First i'm going to just lay out what made me think of the theory in the first place: The Image that started this all:
Why is there another body of kris in Dess's closet? Some people have said that this is a bug, but I counter that bugs like this would have already been hotpatched out. Example, Noelle's Weird Route Animation being misinterpreted so it was quickly taken out then reworked. I've seen others point this screenshot out before, I feel like if it truly isn't meant to be there then it will be taken out. Until it is taken out however, I will count it towards this. I feel like this was intentionally put here.
After the closet door is opened, the body disappears, which could be counted towards the "its just a bug" BUT theres also a weirdly filled corner of hearts in the closet?
When rewatching this scene, this is one of the first frames of the closet. Kris had time to put the guitar on the other side of the closet. I feel like within the timeframe of susie & noelle talking, Kris definitely had time to shove the other body under the suspicious pile of heart pillows? Another component to the theory:
The prophecy in chapter 4. "With human soul and parts!" the "parts" part seem really weird to me lol. What does it mean by parts? I mean the cage is obvious- Kris is the cage to the player. But also Kris is caged by the player. It fits two ways, with how both limit each other. And one all the way back from chapter 1:
Before creating a save file of your own, Kris's appears. To me it feels like Kris has interacted with the dark world in the past because of this. Or it could just mean that you've officially taken over Kris's life. but to me it feels like Kris went to the Dark world- or at the very least saved. But this is a weak point to make since it does show 0 for the time, and this could just be the implication that the Player takes over Kris's file.
So the general theory I thought of this is that: The Kris we play is not the original body of Kris, maybe the "parts" implying a copy of Kris, maybe someone made another Kris, or maybe its universe shenanigans who knows! I'm keeping this vague because I genuinely do not have a clue but I feel like there's SOMETHING there ? My thoughts on it are: When Dess went missing, Kris was there with her. I think they could have possibly went into a dark world together. Dess went missing and Kris came back, but maybe something happened to Kris where it wasn't actually themselves that came back. Or maybe that didn't happen and it was years later when Kris began working with Carol that the whole "more then one body" thing happened, maybe the Soul's introduction caused that? I'm not sure! But I do think there is more then one body of Kris. Maybe Gaster or Carol or someone experimented with Souls and accidently killed Kris and went oh shit cant have that happen so they stole another universe's Kris and so now theres multiple kris bodies in our world. For what purpose? who knows! I sure dont, I'm just thinking of possibilities that could be fun Now I am absolutely not saying that Kris doesn't have their own feelings and wants, they do. If it is revealed that their current body is a robot or whatever please do not let the interpretation be "emotionless kris" because they are not that. It is shown again and again that they have their own wants separate from the player, even going against the player when the player tries to make them say something they don't agree with (the hand biting scene made me feel So Bad). Another thing, is the soul Kris's soul? or not? Is the soul itself the invader? Or were we, the player, put into Kris's Soul? because I feel like that would add a lot of things to this but im tired so this is all I have to say for now. I'm not sure if I completely believe this, but its fun to think about! Plus theres gotta be something with the other body of Kris in Dess's closet. There has to be I really hope we get answers to that extra body of Kris

It's always "funny" to remember that software development as field often operates on the implicit and completely unsupported assumption that security bugs are fixed faster than they are introduced, adjusting for security bug severity.
This assumption is baked into security policies that are enforced at the organizational level regardless of whether they are locally good ideas or not. So you have all sorts of software updating basically automatically and this is supposedly proof that you deserve that SOC2 certification.
Different companies have different incentives. There are two main incentives:
Limiting legal liability
Improving security outcomes for users
Most companies have an overwhelming proportion of the first incentive.
This would be closer to OK if people were more honest about it, but even within a company they often start developing The Emperor's New Clothes types of behaviour.
---
I also suspect that security has generally been a convenient scapegoat to justify annoying, intrusive and outright abusive auto-updating practices in consumer software. "Nevermind when we introduced that critical security bug and just update every day for us, alright??"
Product managers almost always want every user to be on the latest version, for many reasons of varying coherence. For example, it enables A/B testing (provided your software doesn't just silently hotpatch it without your consent anyway).
---
I bring this up because (1) I felt like it, (2) there are a lot of not-so-well-supported assumptions in this field, which are mainly propagated for unrelated reasons. Companies will try to select assumptions that suit them.
Yes, if someone does software development right, the software should converge towards being more secure as it gets more updates. But the reality is that libraries and applications are heavily heterogenous -- they have different risk profiles, different development practices, different development velocities, and different tooling. The correct policy is more complicated and contextual.
Corporate incentives taint the field epistemologically. There's a general desire to confuse what is good for the corporation with what is good for users with what is good for the field.
The way this happens isn't by proposing obviously insane practices, but by taking things that sound maybe-reasonable and artificially amplifying confidence levels. There are aspects of the distortion that are obvious and aspects of the distortion that are most subtle. If you're on the inside and never talked to weird FOSS people, it's easy to find it normal.
One of the eternal joys and frustrations of being a software developer is trying to have effective knowledge about software development. And generally a pre-requisite to that is not believing false things.
For all the bullshit that goes on in the field, I feel _good_ about being able to form my own opinions. The situation, roughly speaking, is not rosy, but learning to derive some enjoyment from countering harmful and incorrect beliefs is a good adaptation. If everyone with a clue becomes miserable and frustrated then computing is doomed. So my first duty is to myself -- to talk about such things without being miserable. I tend to do a pretty okay job at that.
#i know to some of you i'm just stating the sky is blue#software#computing#security#anpost#this was an anramble at first but i just kept writing i guess#still kind of a ramble

Top 10 Features of Windows Server 2022 Datacenter That Make It a Powerhouse for Virtualization

In an era where IT infrastructure needs to be more scalable, secure, and cost-efficient than ever, businesses are constantly seeking server solutions that meet these evolving demands. Among the top contenders in 2025, Microsoft Windows Server 2022 Datacenter continues to hold its ground as a virtualization powerhouse.
If your organization relies heavily on virtual environments, containers, and hybrid cloud setups, then the Datacenter edition is designed specifically for you. In this article, we break down the top 10 features of Windows Server 2022 Datacenter that make it the go-to platform for modern enterprise virtualization.
1. Unlimited Virtual Machines (VMs)
Perhaps the biggest draw of the Datacenter edition is its support for unlimited virtualization. Unlike the Standard edition, which limits the number of VMs you can run, Microsoft Windows Server 2022 Datacenter allows you to deploy as many virtual machines as your hardware can handle.
This is a huge cost-saver for:
Data centers
Hosting providers
Enterprises running multi-tenant workloads
You get maximum flexibility without worrying about license constraints per virtual machine.
2. Hyper-V Enhancements for Performance and Security
Hyper-V, Microsoft’s built-in hypervisor, has received significant improvements in Windows Server 2022. Key enhancements include:
Nested virtualization for AMD processors
Improved VM boot times
Enhanced VM security with Shielded VMs
Support for TPM 2.0 passthrough to VMs
These improvements make Microsoft Windows Server 2022 more performant and secure for large-scale virtualization projects.
3. Shielded Virtual Machines (VMs)
In high-security environments, Shielded VMs add a layer of protection that ensures VMs can only run on trusted hosts. This feature:
Encrypts VM disks with BitLocker
Prevents unauthorized host access
Works with Host Guardian Service (HGS)
If you're handling sensitive workloads, this feature alone makes Server 2022 Datacenter a compelling option.
4. Software-Defined Networking (SDN)
One of the core differentiators of the Datacenter edition is support for Software-Defined Networking (SDN). This lets IT administrators:
Create virtual network overlays
Use network security groups (NSGs)
Enable dynamic firewall rules
Implement routing, load balancing, and micro-segmentation
SDN is essential for managing modern, multi-tenant environments where agility and security go hand-in-hand.
5. Storage Spaces Direct (S2D)
High-availability storage is a must for any virtualized environment. S2D allows you to:
Pool storage across multiple servers
Build failover clusters
Use commodity hardware instead of expensive SANs
With S2D, Microsoft Windows Server 2022 lets you build scalable, resilient storage without breaking the bank.
6. Azure Hybrid Capabilities
The future of IT infrastructure lies in hybrid deployment. Windows Server 2022 integrates deeply with Azure to offer:
Azure Arc: Manage on-prem VMs as if they were native to Azure
Azure Backup & Site Recovery: Disaster-proof your VMs
Azure Monitor & Security Center: Real-time visibility and compliance
These features are perfect for organizations transitioning to a hybrid or multi-cloud model while maintaining on-prem environments.
7. Hotpatching for VMs (Preview to Broad Rollout)
While initially released as an Azure-only feature, hotpatching is making its way to broader Windows Server environments in 2025. It allows you to:
Apply updates without rebooting
Minimize downtime for critical workloads
Ensure 24/7 availability
For organizations running mission-critical applications, this feature can significantly reduce maintenance windows.
8. Secured-Core Server Architecture
Security is paramount in virtualization, especially when handling multi-tenant environments. Microsoft’s Secured-Core initiative builds protection directly into the server stack:
Root-of-trust boot protections
DMA protection
VBS (Virtualization-Based Security)
With Secured-Core, Microsoft Windows Server 2022 offers enterprise-grade defense from firmware-level attacks — an increasingly common threat vector.
9. SMB over QUIC for Encrypted File Transfers
One underrated yet powerful feature is SMB over QUIC, which allows secure file sharing without a VPN. This is especially useful for:
Remote workers accessing virtual servers
Organizations with mobile or hybrid workforces
Securing data transfers over untrusted networks
It provides TLS 1.3 encryption, and it’s built to work natively with your virtualized file servers.
10. Centralized Management via Windows Admin Center
Managing virtual environments is simplified through Windows Admin Center (WAC). With WAC, administrators can:
Monitor VMs
Manage Hyper-V settings
Perform remote server tasks
Integrate Azure services directly
It’s an all-in-one dashboard that significantly reduces administrative overhead, especially when managing dozens or hundreds of virtual instances.

Long-Term Viability in 2025 and Beyond
Microsoft has committed extended support for Windows Server 2022 through October 2031, ensuring a stable foundation for virtualization investments made today. Even as Server 2025 begins to roll out, many organizations are sticking with the mature and widely adopted Server 2022 Datacenter edition.
Its robust feature set makes it more than capable of handling future workloads — especially with frequent updates and cloud-connected capabilities.
Final Thoughts
Virtualization is no longer just an IT buzzword — it's the backbone of efficient, scalable, and secure infrastructure. In 2025, Microsoft Windows Server 2022 Datacenter remains one of the most powerful platforms for businesses that rely on heavy VM use, hybrid deployments, and centralized management.
From nested virtualization to Secured-Core architecture, its top 10 features represent the future of enterprise-grade infrastructure — available now.
