So apparently... Honkai Impact 3rd's lost continent of Mu was a "real thing." At least as real as an old and debunked pseudoscientific theory can be, that is!

I was reading an interesting post about how "Murata" in Genshin might have been a mistranslation that doesn't refer to Himeko Murata, and one of the hints of this is that the original text from the old Genshin manga would be more accurately translated as "Mu-Natlan".

Interestingly, the "Mu" in that phrase is the same "Mu" that's used to describe Mu in HI3rd, and that Mu in turn seems to be derived from a real-life conspiracy theory: that there was a lost continent named Mu, allegedly the origin of many civilizations including the Mesoamerican people, Egypt, and Southeast Asia.

Of course this hypothesis is well-disproved by modern scientific knowledge of geology and plate tectonics, but it still makes sense for Mihoyo to turn to it as a literary device. And while it's mostly a bit of extra fun lore for HI3rd, it makes perfect sense for Genshin given Teyvat's history of cataclysm, its decay of civilizations, and entire lands sinking below the sea (Exhibit A: Enkanomiya).

While it wouldn't surprise me if someone has already pointed this out in the HI3rd community, I thought it'd be worth mentioning anyways.

It took almost 3 years for some of the lore theorists of Genshin to discover that "Murata" was a mistranslation and that it might really be "Mu-Natlan". Knowing how much more effort goes into lore theorycrafting in Genshin vs. HI3rd, it also wouldn't surprise me if this little detail in HI3rd lore was left unnoticed by most people... 'til now! ^.^

imo houkai3rd fans collectively might be a bit too smug about the fact that they play the game.

i also think the ship has long sailed for major structural changes to the game and the writing given that part 2 flopped and many long term criticisms haven’t meaningfully been addressed to so it doesn’t feel like a particularly productive conversation anymore at this point, especially given proportionally whatever tumblr has to say about the game holds even LESS sway than for the other games.

i agree with the broader point, and in general criticising someone for being a tourist has always been pretty self-defeating in my view since what people’s first impressions are matter, what they’re able to grasp at cursory glances matters.

i’m not sure if ‘hi3 fans should criticise their game more’ is what i’d take away, but ‘hi3 fans should be less defensive about critiques’ is something i’d agree with.

I wish hi3 fans learned how to criticize their game a little bit more or at least acknowledge aspects of it that are correctly assumed and not just what they think are ‘tourist assumptions’. Because why are hi3 fans cooking someone for saying the story is complex… it literally is

I haven’t played the broyna chronicles in years but I’m pretty sure fu hua just sorta stands there and does some shit (maybe with feng hua down?) so it’s not just first aid but it’s been a while.

The Shattered Sword VN author has a short story on their blog where Ling Shuang offers to heal Otto so I personally think Fu Hua has abilities beyond normal first aid. But yeah it’s really unclear how she actually does it.

Edit: god damn it I didn’t check the Reddit post before I linked it, she doesn’t actually heal Otto herself. I still think Fu Hua is doing something outside of first aid given the context of the other examples, but yeah.

Have there ever been any instances of healing abilities OUTSIDE of the Abyss Flower/Herrscher of Death's abilities?

I feel like there have been, and there prolly should be given how many whacky abilities exist in Honkai, but for the life of me I cannot remember.
