hear me out! if kalton had adopted a boy instead of morgan, how would thatve played out?🤨(just for fun u don’t have to answer!)
his name is elijah, he’s five months old when they adopt him, and he’s somehow the most happy baby kevin’s ever met.
unless neil is holding him. not to say that he doesn’t like neil, but instead of laughing, he tends to go quiet and just stare at him. sometimes he puts a hand on his face. no one knows why.
that’s how neil becomes the one who gets stuck with him whenever he’s crying and can’t be calmed down.
it takes elijah about two weeks to get accustomed to life with kevin and dalton, but once he does it’s like he never knew life without them.
he sleeps like a champ, just like kevin. it made dalton nervous at first, that something was off, but the doctor and mommy blogs all said it was perfectly normal. a blessing, even.
sometimes dalton will stick him in bed with kevin when he gets up early for work, and by the time he circles back to the room for his work bag before leaving elijah has always managed to make his way on kevin’s chest or curled up against him in some way.
his first word is “no”, and everyone is convinced that it’s from kevin.
once he’s old enough to walk, he follows wymack and/or andrew around like it’s his job. when he’s in both of their presence, however, he chooses to follow andrew. when he’s in both of their presence on the sofa, he’s on top of or in wymack’s lap. always.
he’s not loud besides when he’s laughing.
one time, andrew is babysitting him for a mere three hours. they don’t do anything but sit and watch dora the explorer in near silence (aside from the small sounds that elijah makes, where andrew responds as if they’re actually in conversation). it’s the best way andrew could’ve imagined spending the day with him.
when he brings him to the court to pass off to kevin, he holds elijah on his hip. they’re wearing matching sunglasses because andrew buys him things he doesn’t need, and when he goes to pass him off to kevin elijah puts his arms around andrew in what he assumes is a hug, and gives a squishy smile as he blows andrew a kiss with a “muah” sound.
it’s the cutest thing andrew has ever seen and he will never tell a single soul.
kevin is lowkey butthurt because he’d been the one trying to get elijah to blow him a kiss, and he does it for the first time unprompted to andrew.
oh yeah, elijah has dirty blonde hair and green eyes. he looks nothing like either of them, and he only gets up to be 5’9. he plays baseball and exy in high school, which is so hard for kevin but the exy part saves him.
he goes to school at penn state, and ends up working for an exy team as their athletic trainer or whatever abby does.
why do i now wish kalton had morgan and elijah? is it too late?

ML Kennedy explains NXT WarGames!
Your guide to Saturday’s NXT: Takeover Chicago WarGames!
Currently, only four matches are listed. Survivor Series is also this weekend, which is all about (ugh) brand supremacy and hangs over everything like a wrestling Sword of Damocles. It’s Raw vs. Smackdown vs. NXT and is basically like the wrestling pro-bowl. You know, if in the NFL a team of Bears and Packers had to pretend to like each other in order to interrupt a game between the Jets and Dolphins to show the superiority of the NFC North over the AFC East?
Match one – Standard Match: Matt Riddle vs. Finn Bálor
Matt Riddle is a stoner dude-bro who wears flip flops to the ring and wrestles barefoot. Somehow he is likable enough to be the good guy here. Riddle is also a legit MMA guy who is freakishly strong and has a twitter feud where he dunks on former WCW champ Goldberg.
Finn is a skinny Irish guy who looks like he has never touched a carb in his life. He’s a former Universal Champion on the main roster who has come back to NXT to get his mojo back. Somehow, this process involves being a dickhead to everybody. You know he’s officially a bad guy because he performed the bad guy NXT ceremony (i.e. beating the shit out of Johnny Gargano.)
They are fighting because Finn says that NXT has been overrun with children since he left. Man-child Matt Riddle takes umbrage to that statement.
Match two – Triple Threat: Pete Dunne vs. Damian Priest vs. Killian Dain
Pete Dunne is an Englishman who likes nothing more than to break people’s fingers. He is a tough guy and weighs less than 15 stone, therefore he is called the Bruiserweight.
Damian Priest is a tall, tattooed, and lanky Latino. His gimmick is that he looks like a vampire and shoots invisible arrows (question mark). He’s relatively new to the brand and trying to make a name for himself despite being the oldest guy in the match.
Killian Dane is basically a human/grizzly bear hybrid from Northern Ireland. He was part of an Anarchist group called Sanity that got called up to the main roster and promptly forgotten about. He likes to hang out in dark rooms and project movies.
Priest and Dunne have had some matches where each one has won by hitting the other in the dick. Dunne passed Dain on the ramp once, didn’t like how he looked at him, and broke Dain’s fingers. Dain and Priest hate each other because each of them wants to murder Dunne and they are. . . bad at sharing, I guess.
Match three – WARGAMES: Rhea Ripley, Candice LeRae, Tegan Nox, and Mia Yim vs. Shayna Baszler, Io Shirai, Bianca Belair, and Kay Lee Ray
This is the first Wargames match. Wargames is like a tag team match, but with no tags. There are two rings next to each other with one oblong cage covering the whole thing.
The first team are the goodies and the second team are the baddies.
Rhea Ripley is the team captain of the goodies. She’s a badass, kinda butch lady who wears a leather jacket to the ring. She’s the tallest one of these ladies at 5’9” and has a pair of shoulders like Captain America. (It’s a trick though, she’s Australian.) She was the women’s champ on NXT UK, which is a thing, and now she is on NXT USA which is just called NXT. She wants a shot at Shayna’s NXT women’s title.
Candice LeRae is a blonde lady and a very good wrestler. She’s finally been allowed to be a character on the show aside from Johnny Gargano’s concerned wife. She’s a white meat babyface who likes to stand up to bullies or whatever. LeRae was helping out Io Shirai when Shirai was feuding with Shayne Baszler. Io lost that feud and snapped, which lead to Io beating the hell out of Candice and turn full supervillain. Candice had a shot at Shayna’s title, but came up a little short.
Tegan Nox is recently back from a long-ish injury. She’s Welsh, likes to kick, and has an infatuation with Kane. She is friends/ partners with a fellow kick enthusiast named Dakota Kai. (Kai was not invited onto the team because Shayna Baszler always eats her lunch and has done some sort of long term psychological damage to her psyche. Nox’s response to this was basically, “sorry your mom wouldn’t let you go to the prom, anyways here is my dress.”)
Mia Yim is a black and Asian lady with blue hair. She calls herself HBIC and pretends the B stands for Baddie. Yim basically took Dakota Kai’s spot by not being afraid of Shayna Baszler. Yim came close to beating Shayna a few months ago by taking every short cut in the book and basically cheating her ass off. Shayna has previously offered Yim a job as one of her flunkies. (Shayna has two flunkies, neither of which she trusts enough to put on her WarGames team.)
Shayna Baszler is the captain of the baddies. She’s a badass, kinda butch lady who wears a leather jacket to the ring. Shayna is Ronda Rousey’s friend and basically better than her. She has been champion forever now, and hasn’t really lost a match to anybody that is still in NXT. Shayna is my birthday twin and sounds like Binky Barnes (1) when she talks. She’s the best.
Io Shirai, the genius of the sky, is a tiny Japanese lady who is basically the most dangerous person on the show. She will murder you. She hates Candice LeRae because Candice tried to be her friend. She recently busted up Mia Yim’s nose with a ladder. She and Rhea have been in each other’s faces a lot as both think they deserve to be number one contender to Shayna’s title. I would not expect her to work well with others.
Bianca Belair is the E S T of NXT. She calls herself this as she proclaims to be the greatest, strongest and other words that end with those three letters. She is incredibly strong and athletic, and she will whip you with her long ass braid if you get on her nerves. She also thinks she should be the number one contender to Shayna’s title and came as close to beating Shayna as anybody not named Kairi Sane. She’s egotistical but not really malicious.
Kay Lee Ray is the NXT UK women’s champ. She doesn’t even go to this school. She is Scottish, skinny and a third thing. She wants to be on the baddies team for reasons.
Match four – Men’s WarGames: The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, Kyle O'Reilly and Roderick Strong) vs. Tommaso Ciampa, Keith Lee, Dominik Dijakovic, and TBA
Individually, the second team (the goodies) would seem to have the advantage. However, the Undisputed Era (the baddies) have an edge due to the power of scumbag friendship. (Friendship is a bad guy quality in WWE for some reason.)
The Undisputed Era is a team of 4 different kinds of douchebags. They currently have all the men’s championships in NXT. I’ve heard them described as Millennial nWo. But unlike the original, each member of the Undisputed Era seems to both enjoy wrestling and be good at it.
Adam Cole is their leader and the heavyweight champion. He’s skinny, has long hair, and says “baby.” He’s the sort of guy who would bring a signed photo of himself to the Christmas party’s pirate exchange.
Fish and O’Reilly are the tag champs. O’Reilly is basically a white version of Genan Shiranui (2) from Samurai Shodown minus the Freddy Kreuger glove. He likes to strum his belt like an air guitar and is affectionately (?) referred to as Scumbag Kyle. Fish has a hipster mustache. . . and. . . is also a member of Undisputed Era.
Roderick Strong has the look and personality of a K-mart ripoff version of a 1980s action figure, and is almost as tall. He wrestles like an annoying AI in a WWE video game. He does 100 different versions of a backbreaker and is thus called the “Messiah of the Backbreaker” which is a nickname that I think is part of the war on Christmas.
Leading the good guy team is Tommaso Ciampa, evil made flesh. But, he’s recently back from an injury and is thus a good guy. He’s bald, has a beard, and loves violence more than god, family or country. I believe if you shot him with a cannon, he would still kick out at 2.
Keith Lee used to play defensive end for Texas A&M. Picture a guy who used to play defensive end for Texas A&M, now make no changes to that image. He’s 6’2” over 300lbs, can do just about anything in a wrestling ring, and by all rights should be able to toss any member of the Undisputed Era into the upper balcony any time he wants.
Dominik Dijakovic is Keith Lee’s blood rival. He’s 6’7” 270lbs and is basically Sagat (3) from Street Fighter if Sagat from Street Fighter was from Worcester, Massachusetts.
The fourth member of the team is as yet unannounced.
***
There you have it! No titles are on the line, every match is people who dislike each other are going to settle their differences through violence, even if they have to team up with people they hate.
Also, there are two other rosters worth of wrestlers in town ready to fuck shit up for no reason other than brand supremacy.
What could go wrong?!

AVP Champ
Recently, I’ve been watching and playing a lot of beach volleyball, which sparked a new role model for me. His name is Taylor Crabb, a professional beach volleyball player who’s a multi AVP champion. He’s a really experienced player, but the reason as to why I admire what he does is because he’s the smallest guy out on the court. He’s 6’0 tall, and although that seems pretty tall to most, it’s actually considered pretty short to the other pros that play. Most of the “smaller” guys that play are around 6’3 or 6’4, but what makes Taylor special isn’t just his height, but how high he jumps. Even though he’s the smallest guy out there, he’s one of the strongest hitters. He’s able to jump and get his head level or higher than the net, and either hit a smart cut shot or just hammer away. I’ve been watching how he plays, and I’ve been trying to sculpt my playstyle around his. I’m only 5’9, so seeing someone else that’s considered short competing with all the big boys, gives me hope.

Dart Adams presents The Top 50 Hip Hop Albums, EP’s & Mixtapes Of 2009 (The Final Top 200)
This is a list of what I consider to be the Top 200 Hip Hop LP’s, EP’s & mixtapes from this year so far. Please keep in mind that in order for me to even narrow this list to 200 I had to exclude all instrumental albums with the exception of Exile’s “Radio” (as it could’ve easily been Album Of The Year) otherwise it would’ve just been ridiculous and impossible to narrow to just 200 Hip Hop albums. This is the final time I do this, after three years I’m sure you all get the point I’m trying to make by now.
Also keep in mind that I’ve heard slightly less than 700 different projects this calendar year (my gmail account was bananas). I’m sure that my Bloggerhouse brethren Eric & Travis have quite a few projects in mind that I missed. That should give you all an idea as to just how deep 2009 was with quality material that you probably never even heard of.
In the comments section feel free to gripe, bitch and/or moan about Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Wale, Fabolous, Busta Rhymes or “insert wack rapper’s name here” lackluster ass album not being in my top 200. Also feel free to add albums, EP’s & mixtapes I missed (like Pill’s). I head mad albums that are still in my rotation that missed this cut (Moka Only made so many albums I stopped him at one so “Summer Notations”, “Carrots & Eggs” & Ron Contour’s”Hot Dog” aren’t on this list).
I’m sure listened to WAY more Hip Hop than you this year (and I probably suffered irreparable damage because of it). All you gotta do to check every Friday of 2009 (both the reviews & Late Passes (For Doz Dat Slept) sections) on this blog for proof. Enjoy (or don’t) my final Poisonous Paragraphs list:

You thought these NBA prospects would be busts. They turned into stars
Boy were you wrong. (Hint: We were, too.)
On Thursday, we asked Twitter a question. Following a prompt from Celtics Blog, we wanted to know who your biggest busts were: players you thought for sure were headed for stardom but fell way below your expectations.
Here were your answers.
Today, though, we asked the reverse. Who were the players you felt were busts that turned in pretty successful NBA careers?
Now, we're doing the reverse! Who did you think would be a bust that turned out to be a solid player, or even a star?
— SB Nation NBA (@SBNationNBA) August 4, 2017
It’s simple: There’s a lull in the NBA. Free agency is all but over, and aside from pending Kyrie Irving and Carmelo Anthony trades, we have a good idea of what the 30 league rosters will look like next season.
So what better way to kill time than to reminisce about past judgment calls we made that were just flat-out wrong. Here were some of the names you threw around:
Kawhi Leonard
I thought Kawhi Leonard's ceiling was @Bowen12
— Gervin (@GervinTwittiot) August 4, 2017
A zillion percent Kawhi Leonard and I’m owning that one. https://t.co/S6U2HdCqHd
— Mike Prada (@MikePradaSBN) August 4, 2017
When the Spurs sent George Hill to the Pacers for the 15th pick in 2011, most people were confused. Hill was a solid combo guard who gave Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili relief at either back court spot. Why move him for an unproven rookie who, at the time, wasn’t perceived as much more than a perimeter defender?
Today, Kawhi Leonard has an NBA championship and Finals MVP under his belt and has become arguably one of the five best players in the league. He can legitimately defend four of five traditional basketball positions and has developed into an all-world scorer.
Stephen Curry
Steph Curry. Didn't see the passing, defense, or frame to handle the NBA. Easily the most wrong I've ever been. https://t.co/9kYZw39ST0
— Bryant West (@BSWest5) August 4, 2017
Steph Curry
— 6'11 (@Sethdiddy) August 4, 2017
Curry was rated a 69 in NBA 2K9. He could shoot the lights out when he got hot, but that was about it. Then the injuries came, and he looked nothing like a top-7 pick.
But then Monta Ellis got traded and the Warriors drafted some talent to put alongside their super shooter. Today, Curry is a two-time MVP, a two-time champ and arguably the greatest shooter to ever touch a basketball.
IT4
Isaiah Thomas: even without handcheck rules and with a softer league, I thought his being a zero on defense would keep him off the court.
— Will Dickeson (@WillDickeson) August 4, 2017
Sure, Isaiah Thomas went dead-last in the 2011 NBA Draft, but given his stature, the odds were already stacked against him. A few years later, the 5’9” guard became one of the best success stories in the NBA, crashing into giant defenders in the paint or making defenses pay from downtown. And he’s the star of a Boston team that had the best record in the Eastern Conference last season.
Gordon Hayward
Gordon Hayward
— Don (@chewie93) August 4, 2017
Gordon Hayward. https://t.co/kmTnAEP4iG
— Thomas Duffy (@TJDhoops) August 4, 2017
i said gordon hayward should stay at butler lol https://t.co/gcV0V20U4V
— Whitney Medworth (@its_whitney) August 4, 2017
Hayward was coming off of an exceptional season at Butler, falling just short of winning it all in the National Championship Game. But in a 2010 NBA Draft thought to be loaded with names like John Wall, Evan Turner, DeMarcus Cousins, Wesley Johnson and Derrick Favors — remember, these guys were STUDS in college — Hayward’s name didn’t stand out from the pack.
Today, Hayward is a max player on the Celtics after making the All-Star team with the Jazz last season. He could be the piece that pushes Boston over the hump.
J.J. Redick
I was only a kid at the time so it was mostly just Dukie hatred, but: J.J. Redick.
— Peter Nygaard (@RetepAdam) August 4, 2017
Definitely JJ Redick...he's turned out to be more than a shooter https://t.co/tky8n47Yur
— Bodega J. (@Gym_Jaaames) August 4, 2017
JJ Redick. Thought his nonsense wouldn't work in the NBA but he worked and made himself a player. Jimmer, tho...... https://t.co/NjpeppUXAF
— grundlefly (@jerry_eldred) August 4, 2017
The career J.J. Redick has carved out for himself continues to shock me. https://t.co/8z6S1tj4hY
— Eric McKay (@EricMcKay_NCN) August 4, 2017
At a time where the three-point shot wasn’t nearly as valued as it is now, J.J. Redick was a specialist. He still is, but his savvy approach to the game has endeared him across the league as one the best veterans to have on a roster: case-in-point — the Sixers gave him $23 million next season to hit threes and mentor their young guys.
DeMar DeRozan
DeMar DeRozan!
— Adam Voge (@adamvoge) August 4, 2017
I am still slightly confused by the ascension of Demar Derozan to NBA superstar. https://t.co/DMguq5LKqB
— David Ray Allen (@davidrallenjr) August 4, 2017
DeRozan was somewhat of a raw talent when he entered the NBA in 2009. He was a freak athlete who used that athleticism to his advantage on both ends of the floor. Now, the Raptors’ guard is the best mid-range shooter in the NBA, one of the league’s best finishers and an All-Star starter.
Kevin Love
Kevin Love, a lot.
— Steve McPherson (@steventurous) August 4, 2017

Kevin Love spent one season at UCLA as a dominant rebounder, outlet passer and post-scorer with decent range. At the NBA level, he’s been a carbon copy.

Isaiah Thomas – Pound for Pound King Written by Jarrett Adams on April 2, 2017
While the NBA season comes to a close and players get geared up for the playoffs, NBA pundits are mostly talking about Russell Westbrook shattering Oscar Roberson’s record for triple doubles. Consider what Westbrook accomplished this season as a 9 on the Richter scale for earthquakes, as the NBA universe is still in aftershock. Nobody knows what can happen in this year’s playoffs as far as individual performances go. But while we wait for the playoffs to start April 15th, why not pay homage to the NBA’s undisputed pound for pound king, Isaiah Thomas from the Boston Celtics.
Has a little guy ever had a better season? The 5-9 185 pound lefty point guard out of Seattle is absolutely burning up the league. When we talk about little guys in the NBA, Thomas is giving the title a new meaning and showing height truly doesn’t matter. I’m not talking about Chris Paul, Kyle Lowry small either. I’m talking about the shortest guy in the entire NBA. Remember Dunk Champ Nate Robinson, and how he could single handedly win you playoff games (albeit against the Nets)? Well watching Thomas play basketball this season puts whatever Nate Robinson ever accomplished to shames. When we talk about true little guys in the NBA, 5’9 and under guys, there is no doubt we have just witness the best short player NBA season in the history of the league.
Even more impressive is the competition of the NBA of today. Watching Thomas bob and weave his way past defenders and score over bigger and stronger players on a daily basis really has become an underappreciated art form. Look at his stats, and remember this guy was the very last player taken in the 2011 NBA draft, and a guy Phoenix traded away for peanuts. Despite being a two time all-star, according to Basketball reference he’s only earned 16 million and some change in his five years in the NBA. With his play this year, he might be the first player under 5’10 to earn a max contract.
The first stat that really jumps out at you is the 28.9 points per game. He’s not a big assist guy or rebounder, but 28.9 points per game speaks for itself. This year he’s up in pretty much every advanced statistic, with career highs in player efficiency (26.5), win shares (12.5), and VORP (4.8).
Did I mention the Celtics locked up the number one seed in the Eastern conference? If it wasn’t for Russell Westbrook, Thomas would be gaining more momentum for League MVP. Instead, he’ll be crowned by me as the leagues’ pound for pound king. The Celtics are at best a playoff team without him. He is the engine that drives the C’s. I won’t call the Celtics a favorite any time soon, but with that home court advantage in the East there’s no telling how far they will go. Did I mention he leads the league in 4th quarter scoring, aka “Crunch Time”? It’s only fitting that the league’s smallest player would come up big in the biggest moments. Keep an eye out for Isaiah Thomas in the 2017 playoffs. All I expect to witness is the pound for pound king taking every opportunity to solidify his title.

Eastern Conference First Round Playoff Preview
I tell ya, the Eastern Conference had absolutely no business being as dramatic as it was. Now, it’s still not better top to bottom than the Western Conference but it’s was a breath fresh air that not only did defending World Champs Cleveland Cavaliers fail to nab the first seed even when it seemed they really wanted to but the only got the second seed via a tiebreaker. There are signs of a power shift in the East and the events of the playoffs may help solidify this theory.
This was a wild race. The eight seed was decided on the final night of the season (also via a tiebreaker) and the bottom four seeds were in play until the very end. The top gave us a three way fight between Boston, Toronto and Cleveland. Hopefully the Eastern Conference playoffs will not disappoint, the end of the regular season surely didn’t.
#1. Boston Celtics vs. #8. Chicago Bulls
Well looka here, the red hot Bulls winning 7 of their last 9 drew the one team at the top of the conference they haven’t enjoyed unusual success against one of the top seeds in the East. Boston won the regular season conference title but here comes the hard stuff. Starting with the Bulls.
Celtics will win if they………
Have IT4 answer the call and use the versatility of their roster to create mismatches against the bound to come down to earth Bulls. Thomas, Boston’s 5’9” point guard put together quite the Hurculean body of work this season with a line of 29 and 6 assists per night. But as is with most of the top tier teams in the league their real strength lies in numbers. The addition of Al Horford has appeared to be quite the strange fit at times throughout the season but he and his 14 and team leading 7 boards per night is exactly what this team needs for the postseason run. Defensive stalwarts Jae Crowder and Avery Bradley will most likely wreak havoc on the hot shooting of late Bulls. Bradley and Crowder also provide a decent scoring punch at 16 and 14 per night respectively. Boston also boasts one of the best 2nd units in the game featuring Marcus Smart, Amir Johnson, Kelly Olynyk and rookie Jaylen Brown.
Bulls will win if they…………
Continue to let Jimmy Butler do his best Russy impression. Butler has been the spark behind the Bulls’ recent fortunes. Amid all of the on and off the court turmoil this season Butler put up a superb 24-5-6. A diminished or at least more focused role for Dwayne Wade may help this also. Funny how when Wade was sitting out with injury the Bulls began to find their groove by giving young guys Denzel Valentine, Paul Zipser and Bobby Portis much more reps and essentially a green light to shoot. Nikola Mirotic also began to look like the much needed stretch 4 gunner they expected him to be so his production here will be a must. The Bulls also stand to control the boards especially offensively which can really help them operate in transition which has silently been a fixture of their recent hot streak.
H.B. says…………..Celtics in 6
#4. Washington Wizards vs. #5. Atlanta Hawks
Normally the 4 x 5 matchup provides quite a bit of excitement since they usually feature two of the more evenly matched teams in the first round and it provides a window into who the top seed will play in the second round in most cases. Hell, the 4 x 5 matchup on the Left Coast is a humdinger but this……this right here party people is one bleak looking series. These are two teams who’s production has tapered off a bit to end the season although it’s quite clear to most who has looks to come out of this one.
Wizards will win if they………
Take full advantage of their clear cut advantage over Atlanta in the backcourt. Four time All-Star John Wall and All-Time All-Star snub this year Bradley Beal are the vastly superior to Atlanta’s Denis Schroder and either Tim Hardaway Jr. or Kent Bazemore. Their ability to spread the floor will also heighten their chances of pinning the Hawks’ back against the wall (get it?). The Wiz feature 5 guys that log considerable minutes shooting the three ball at a 35% or better clip. If Ian Mahinmi can return from injury during the series Washington will be able to provide a second body to put on Dwight Howard as well as establish himself as the clearly superior big when comparing both second units.
Hawks will win if they………
They can establish a clear second option on offense. Milsap will be able to eat but second leading scorer Schroder will most likely have his hands full trying to evade Wall so it would behoove the Hawks to get someone else going. Eyes turn directly to Hardaway Jr., and Bazemore. Both very capable of getting hot but it’s really hard to talk myself into believing that they can sustain the required level of consistency needed to make the impact they desire. Ersan Ilyasova and Mike Dunleavey Jr. may be able to provide a scoring punch but lack the defense to stay on the floor for an extended amount of time. Speaking of defense, Atlanta is actually well equipped to challenge Washington’s shooting. The Hawks finished the season ranked 4th in defensive rating and between the usual suspects (Milsap, Sefolosha and Howard) the Hawks have gotten promisingly consistent defensive play from rookies Malcolm Delaney and Taurean Prince.
H.B. says…………….Wiz in 6
#3. Toronto Raptors vs. #6 Milwaukee Bucks
This is going to be one helluva series. Which is why you may find it strange when I say it also a series breaks my heart for a few reason. For whatever reason, someone at the league office decided that THIS is the series that should be relegated to NBATV for at least two matchups (couldn’t think of ANY other series you know like the one y’all just read about), it’s going to be hard to look at this matchup without thinking of how it would turn out if they had Jabari Parker and the Deer drew the one team that matches up PERFECTLY with them. Although it definitely be argued vice versa.
Raptors will win if they………
Get performances from Lowery and DeRozan that will go a long way in shedding their dubious reputation for petering out in the playoffs. Luckily for them there’s evidence supporting the likelihood of this. Lowery looks to be ready to roll coming off of his injury, DeRozan’s offensive game took a mini-leap (a hop if you will) but most importantly they’ve added reliable shooters in P.J. Tucker and Serge Ibaka both making their treys at a 40% clip. On the other side of the coin their defense look to be spearheaded by the same duo. This paired along with whatever contribution Demarre Carroll can chip in and having the clear cut superior post man in the series in Jonas Valanciunas will pose a threat to the scoring ability of the young and spry Bucks.
Bucks will win if they……….
Make them fear the Deer. Milwaukee may not be the matchup nightmare for Toronto like they are for just about everyone else in the league but that doesn’t mean they’re going to be resigned to play conservatively. The key is work to keep Giannis operating in space. And if you read the Raps portion of this preview (I certainly hope you did because if not that’s just weird) you’ll notice that this is much easier said than done. Both Rookie of the Year candidate Malcolm Brogdon and irritant savant Matthew Dellavedova will be tasked with this and may see some success as Lowery will look to take Khris Middleton in most cases and that will leave them to operate against the much less defensively inclined Derozan. Also, finding some shooting will help. Middleton will be big here as well as Mirza Teletovic, and surprisingly Tony Snell.
H.B. says……………Drakes in 6
#2. Cleveland Cavaliers vs. #7 Indiana Pacers
Man, someone failed into a good situation here. Somehow (looks shadily at Adam Silver…..j/k) the defending World Champions Cleveland Cavaliers were able to secure the 2 seed which relatively put them out of harm’s way by drawing the Indiana Pacers a team that at times struggled to beat a heavily resting Atlanta Hawks team on the final night of the regular season. This allowed them to avoid the Bulls who for reasons I’m not sure anyone knows appears to have their number (Cavs were swept by Bulls this year in the season series 4-0) and the Bucks who would have really made life hard for LeBron and the Brontones’ really shaky defense. But, we will be treated to at least four games of sweet LeBron vs. Paul George action.
Cavs will win if they………
Use their depth and shooting to take control early and make PG-13 do all of the work. Sure, they have their fair share of defensive deficiencies and it is something they need to address but this is a team that shoots the 3 ball with 38% accuracy (good for 2nd in the league) and almost everyone on their playoff roster can knock em’ down. Also, outside of their situation at center Cleveland can go a legitimate 2 deep at every other position (hell three at some). Outside of his assignment on George this will most likely be an exercise to get James into playoff ready mode and his supporting cast should assure that it stays this way.
Pacers will win if………..
They can put enough scoring together to expose Cleveland’s faulty defensive tendencies and deploy capable defenders to help shoulder the load from George since he has to be at his best offensively here. PG-13 WILL have at least one breakout game that then forces James to yell at everyone and they would be smart to build off of that. George will also have some damn fine defensive performances. Now if you can point out a recurring theme of the paragraph to this point what would it be? Exactly. Thaddeus Young, Jeff Teague, C.J. Miles and whatever fumes are left in the tank of Monta Ellis will be needed and the return of Glenn Robinson III would be boss here to boot. But where Indy can really make an impact and expose the Cavs is if second-year breakout center Myles Turner can have a big series.
H.B. says……………Cavs in 5
