writing my "fun essay" (about the history of fanfic and how it became a solidified/recognized concept in mainstream pop culture) and lowkey THIS SHIT IS HARD!!! expkaining wtf slash fic is in academic terms like i feel this be objectionable. somehow
#thoughts#its actually rlly perfect for this class tho cuz we literally just talk about#how media evolves and new genres/methods/forms of writing and information transfer get established#and idk i feel like tho a majority of gen z/millenials probably dont consume fanfic as a hobby#it has enough relevance as a cultural idea that u could say 'oh well its fanfiction of [x]' and most ppl in that age group could understand#what is being communicated. so idk. its abt how fanfiction became less niche with the advent of the internet + online fan subculture#and how it became mainstream enough to become its own recognizable like... THING. in media culture and how we talk abt it#fun and interesting but also hard to explain. and i have to make tough calls about how much i can talk about yaoi#so many of the earliest like true to the letter for-fans fanfic i can find record of#is star trek yaoi from the 70s. which was printed into physical books and distributed at fanclub meetings T_T#literally yaoi is at the beginning and end of it all. fujos are to blame for everything
