So, it turns out poaching eggs is just as easy as dropping them into hot water??? I was led to believe this was difficult. I found recipes telling me that I would need some fancy spoon and vinegar and to swirl the water and shit but people in the comments just said to crack the eggs directly into water between 65°C and boiling so I did that and they're perfect (delicious, anyway)! The least effort of all the eggs!

#Anna's cooking adventures#just made a vast plate of muffins spinach avocado smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce with my eggs#maybe I will add picture#eggs exactly how I wanted them#I took picture before I ate some#I made so much so I will not need to cook again until I have devoured it all!

Hey also you know that post about getting better at cooking and handling meat and stuff?
Meat is really expensive and it goes bad pretty quickly.
If you're a new cook and you're trying to figure out how to pan-fry something so that it tastes good, might I recommend tofu?
I'm not saying "treat tofu like meat and try to replace all your favorite meat dishes with tofu" (though, I mean, if that sounds good - go for it), I'm saying "it's a lot easier to practice heating a pan and flipping objects in a pan for a meal and seasoning objects in a pan when the objects in the pan cost two dollars instead of ten dollars."
Tofu lasts a lot longer in the fridge than meat does, is easy to season, and you can easily learn how to pan-fry it into a tasty snack (or main course) and only requires a little extra prep. You can also pretend that the tofu is raw meat (the texture isn't dissimilar) and start practicing for things like how to take it out of a package or cut it on a sanitizable surface, etc.
My favorite way to cook tofu is to press extra firm tofu for at least half an hour (you can get a cheap tofu press for around ten dollars, or you can put it between two plates with some books on the top plate - this is that extra prep i was talking about - tofu cooks best if you press the excess water out), then slice a 14oz cake of it into 8 slices. I lay these flat and sprinkle cayenne pepper, mushroom powder, and smoked paprika on all of the slices, then I rub it in and flip the slices and season the other side the same way. I cook it in a frying pan with a thin layer of avocado or olive oil over medium heat, flipping every two minutes until the flat sides start to crisp up a little. Just before the last flip I add about a tablespoon of tamari sauce (you can use soy sauce, I've just got allergies) to the pan, sprinkling it over the tofu so that both sides get a little bit of sauce on them.
I have that with steamed vegetables and with jasmine rice (with two teaspoons of rice wine vinegar per 3 cups of dry rice and 4.5 cups of water). I also make a honey-siracha-mayo sauce that I dip the tofu in.
It's really good. And now I end up eating leftover rice and sauce with fried eggs for lunch at least two days a week and that's also really good.
This has become one of my go-to low spoon foods because it's so easy to make, it's filling, it tastes good to me, and it has become extremely easy for me to keep a stock of tofu in the fridge compared to the effort of keeping un-expired meat in the fridge.
I find that a 14oz pack of tofu feeds two adults for one meal, though I can stretch that to three meals if I'm the only one eating.
It makes a very cheap, filling, easy dinner that I can keep the ingredients around for without too much concern for food waste or anything going bad (the tofu that I get lasts about a month in the fridge and these days I just buy three packs every time I'm at aldi and cycle in new stock - it costs $1.50 per pack)
If you're interested in becoming a better cook, rather than worrying about actual high-risk products like raw chicken that can be seriously dangerous and also cost a fair amount, tofu has a pretty low barrier to entry while also being a good way to learn on a new ingredient that has some similar properties to raw meat.

𝚢𝚘𝚞'𝚛𝚎 𝚓𝚘𝚔𝚒𝚗𝚐… || 𝚙𝚊𝚒𝚐𝚎 𝚋𝚞𝚎𝚌𝚔𝚎𝚛𝚜 𝚡 𝚛𝚎𝚊𝚍𝚎𝚛
in which you play a little prank on her
You’re already holding in your laughter when Paige picks up the FaceTime. She’s in the locker room—hair still wet from a post-practice shower, jersey swapped for a loose hoodie, earbuds in.
“Hey, babe,” she says, wiping under her eye with a towel. “What’s up?”
You clear your throat and do your best to look serious, even concerned. “Okay, so I did something…”
That’s always a great opener.
Paige pauses mid-motion, towel hanging over one shoulder now. “That’s never a good way to start a conversation. Especially coming from you.”
You shift the camera a bit so she sees your garage behind you, the hood of your car popped open. A few smudges of oil are streaked across your cheek. On purpose. Obviously. Needing to throw her off.
“I changed the oil.”
Her face lights up with surprise. “Wait. Seriously?”
You nod with fake pride. “Yep. Took initiative. Did some reading, watched like half a video. I even had gloves.”
She squints at the screen. “I didn’t even know we had gloves in the garage.”
You ignore that. “Anyway, it was all going great until I realized oil is, like… expensive. Like so so expensive. Like, extreme highway robbery.”
Her eyebrows knit. “What kind of oil were you trying to buy?”
“I don’t know. The one in the yellow bottle. But it was, like, $30.”
Paige blinks. “Okay… yeah, that’s pretty normal—”
“So I got a better idea,” you interrupt, keeping your voice light. “I used the avocado oil from the kitchen.”
There’s silence.
On the screen, you see Paige freeze—like you just told her you filled the tank with bath water.
“…Come again?”
You nod and spin the camera toward your car’s open hood. Balanced carefully in the corner of the engine bay is the empty glass bottle of organic cold-pressed avocado oil, a faint green smear around the spout.
“See?” you say. “It even pours smoother than the regular stuff. And it’s heart healthy!”
Paige sits back on the bench in her locker room, staring at the screen like it’s cursed.
“You’re kidding.”
You bite your lip. “No, I really did it. I even used the funnel. I’m not an animal.”
There’s a crash in the background on her side—someone dropping a water bottle—and then Paige pinches the bridge of her nose like she’s fighting for patience.
“You… put avocado oil in the car.”
You nod solemnly.
Paige closes her eyes. “Babe.”
You look at her, wide-eyed. “What?”
She opens her eyes and stares. “You do know that’s not… how any of this works, right?”
“But it’s oil,” you say, deadpan. “It says extra virgin right on the label. That means it’s clean, right?”
“Jesus Christ,” she mutters, yanking her earbuds out and holding the phone closer. “That oil is for cooking. For food. For salads!”
“I mean,” you shrug, “the car’s basically just a big hot pan, right?”
She groans and stands up, pacing behind the lockers now. “You could’ve just used our shared card. Or called me. Or literally done nothing. We have a mechanic for a reason!”
“But I wanted to be independent,” you whine.
Paige turns back to the screen, hands flailing. “Independent doesn’t mean killing our car with guacamole oil!”
You burst out laughing, finally unable to hold it in anymore. Your whole body trembles as you drop the camera low and wipe the smudged streak from your cheek.
“Oh my god,” you wheeze. “Your face. I’ve never seen your soul leave your body that fast.”
She freezes mid-rant.
Her eyes narrow.
“…You’re joking.”
You nod, gasping. “Of course I’m joking. What do I look like? I’m not putting cooking ingredients in a damn engine.”
She stares at you.
And then she slowly lowers herself onto the bench, her jaw slack. “You—you—oh my god. You’re dead. I swear. I was about to transfer ten thousand to our mechanic with a ‘sorry in advance’ memo.”
You giggle harder. “That would have been so iconic.”
She rubs her face. “Do you know how fast I Googled ‘what happens when you put cooking oil in a car’? Do you know how terrifying those results were?”
You lean against the frame of the garage door, snorting. “I can imagine.”
Paige fixes her stare on you. “You’re lucky I love you.”
You smirk. “Lucky? Babe, I’m a blessing.”
She points at the screen. “No. You’re a menace. You’re a gremlin with a death wish for our car.”
You tilt your head. “I even staged the bottle, you know? Like I put a little paper towel under it so it wouldn’t spill.”
Paige rolls her eyes. “I’m telling your mom.”
“No! Don’t snitch!”
She grins, pulling her hoodie over her head and sitting crisscross on the bench. “Actually, I’m telling everyone. I’m posting this on my story.”
You gasp. “I’ll sue.”
“On what grounds?”
“Emotional distress.”
Paige laughs. “You’re the one who fake-filled a car with kitchen oils!”
You dramatically press a hand to your chest. “But your reaction—so much love. You didn’t even flinch about the money.”
That softens her just slightly. She sighs. “Because I don’t care about that. You know that. We’re good on money. I’d rather you not DIY our car and burn the garage down, though.”
You smile. “So what I’m hearing is… you’ll change the oil next time?”
“No. I’m just revoking your garage privileges.”
You pout. “But I was gonna wash the tires with bleach next week.”
She blinks. “That better be a joke.”
You wink and blow her a kiss. “Love you, Paigey.”
She groans but grins back. “Yeah, yeah. Love you too, gremlin. Just—stick to salads next time.”
You wave your phone toward the car. “I dunno… the engine did smell kinda good.”
“I swear to fucking god woma—”
And you end the call right as she lunges at the camera.
You’re still giggling as you wipe your hands and grab your actual bottle of motor oil and got back to work.

Abbot or robinavitch with a daughter who’s terrified of hospitals? (Ironically enough) and idk maybe accidentally cuts herself while cooking and has to get stitches
Pairings: Michael Robinavitch x Daughter!reader
TW: blood. injuries caused by a knife. stitches etc.
Home Cooked meals were not all that common in the Robinavitch household. With your fathers’ twelve-hour shifts not ending until seven pm and your days being taken up by school and evenings by your part-time babysitting job, cooking has been placed on the back burner. The two of you mostly survived off of take-outs, deliveries and pity meals given to you by Dana once she realises what was happening but you were determined to change that today.
With a fridge full of freshly bought groceries, a flicker of inspiration lit up inside of you and you spent your journey home from school scouring the internet looking for recipes you could make. You had a couple of hours after you arrived home until your dad returned back from work and so you got straight to work.
With music blasting through the bluetooth speakers and the recipe you were using was pulled up on your ipad, you were in your own world. Chopping, sauteing, seasoning, you were on a roll and steamrolling ahead and so caught up in your mind that you weren't paying proper attention to how you were gripping the avocado that when you were slicing into it, it completely rolling out of your hand giving the knife free real estate to your palm and on-boy did it take the opportunity.
"Ah!" You jump back with a gasp, knife and avocado falling to the counter with a clatter. Blood bubbles up immediately along with a searing throbbing pain that spreads across your hand steadily.
"Shit..." You swear as you reach for a tea towel to stifle the flow. You wrap the towel around your hand and clench your hand into fist and clean the mess your blood made on the counter with your uninjured hand.
You attempt to return to cooking but your hand hurts too much and the adrenaline makes you shake, so you return to the living room couch to wait for your dad to return home.
You don't have to wait long. You soon hear the telltale sound of keys in the door as your dad finally comes home.
He calls out your name as he takes his shoes and bag off and hangs his jumper off of the hooks that sat in the entryway, "Are you cooking? Something smells amazing!"
"Um... Kinda." You stutter out, unsure how to answer him.
"Everything okay?" Your dad appears in the doorway, "You usually meet me at the door."
You feebly wave your injured hand. "I may have... injured myself."
Your dad doesn't waste a moment as he speeds to your side, taking your hand in a gentle grip as he tuts at you.
"How the hell did you do this?" He asks as he analyses your injury.
"I was trying to cut an avocado." You tell him, "How bad is it?"
Your dad looks at you with a sympathetic frown, "Bad. You need stitches."
"Stitches?!" You try to pull backs but your dad's grip is solid despite its gentleness.
"Yes, stitches."
"You can't do it here?"
"Afraid not."
You bite your lip as you realise that you have no choice, "Who's working tonight?"
"Abbot."
You make a face at Abbot's name. Abbot was a great doctor but you needed someone who was a bit softer and sweeter, considering how much you hated hospitals.
"Ellis is there too." Your dad adds, "You like her."
You calm slightly at the familiar name, "I do. Parker is nice."
Your dad stands and pulls you up to your feet before ushering you over to the doorway where your trainers sat, "C'mon get your shoes on and we'll go to the hospital."
"You don't want to eat first?" You ask, looking over your shoulder to peer at the kitchen as you leave the house.
"Did you even finish cooking?" Your dad asks as he locks the door behind you.
You shake your head no and your dad laughs as he guides you to his car, "It's okay, we'll get something delivered."
"Dr Robby?" Bridgette, the night shift charge nurse, looked at the day attending in confusion as the two of you approached the nurse station, "Did you forget something?"
Your father motioned towards you and you held your injured hand up, the tea towel now drenched in blood.
"We're in need of some stitches Bridgette. Is Ellis around?"
Bridgette looks down at her computer, searching for the doctor in question, "She's occupied but Abbot is available."
"What about Shen?" You ask, halfway prepared to run out of the hospital.
"He's busy too, sweetheart." Bridgette shakes her head, "It's either Abbot or your dad."
"What are you volunteering me for?" Abbot asked as he approached the station, head swiveling as he looked for answers.
"She cut her hand open, needs stitches." Your dad answers and Abbot's gaze finally lands on your injured hand.
He holds his hands out and you obey his silent demand by placing your hand in his and you wince as he peels back the towel to look at the wound.
He winces and lets out a low whistle as he examines it, "Damn, who'd you get into a fight with?"
"An avocado" You roll your eyes.
Abbot's lips quirk as he tries to not laugh at you as he rewraps your hand and sends you off to an empty room and tells you he'll be stitching up you. As you walk off, your dad pulls Abbot to the side and tells him about your fear of hospitals.
"Your daughter is afraid of hospitals?" Abbot looks close to laughter, "Daughter of a doctor is scared of your place of work."
Robby rolls his eyes, "Just be gentle…please."
Abbot realises how serious it was and nods, "Of course, I'll be…gentle."
You keep your gaze on your dad, injured hand to the side as you face the other way, desperate to not watch as Abbot got to work with your hand. You had been given painkillers and a numbing agent in the area so it no longer hurt but you still had no wish to watch Abbot do what he does best.
Your father realises that and so he strikes up a conversation in hopes to distract you enough.
"So, what were you planning on cooking tonight?"
"Some recipe I found online, nothing special."
"It's definitely special, you're making it."
You smile shyly at your dads words, he always had a way of making sure you knew you were loved and appreciated especially since his work took up so much time affecting the time he spent with you.
"Well I ruined it" You pout, "There's blood all in the salad."
"Gross" Abbot mutters from where he was hunched over your hand.
You nod at his words, "Exactly, gross."
"You can try again when you're healed up, maybe sans avocado. As for today, we can pick up some chinese or pizza. None of us are in any state to do any cooking today."
Abbot pauses in the middle of the stitches and looks up at you both, "You guys are getting chinese food?"
"Perhaps."
"If you order from the one around the block then it'll still be hot when it reaches here."
"Who said anything about you getting chinese food?" You dad questions Abbot but it was just lighthearted teasing, you knew your dad would buy Abbot a meal.
"I stitch up your daughter and I can't even get fried rice in return?"
"All you're getting is wonton soup, take it or leave it."
"I ain't taking shit."
You laugh at the back and forth bickering between the friends and before you knew it, Abbot was done with your hand and was wrapping your hand in gauze and gave you a comforting pat on the shoulder.
"You're all done here kid. A nurse will be by with your discharge papers."
You smile up at him, "Thank's Dr Abbot."
"No problem but do me a favour?"
You nod quickly, "Sure."
"Make sure your dad gets me that fried rice, I really don't want wonton soup."
You bite your lip to stifle the laugh that wanted to spill and nod seriously, "Of course. Fried rice, not soup."
Abbot nods at you one last time before he leaves the room, "Thanks kid."

"lie with you" / oliver aiku x reader
the realization hits oliver on a saturday morning.
he was half naked from the activities of the night before, but as he reached his hand over to where you fell asleep, he was only met with cold sheets. cracking an eye open, oliver realizes that you're no longer laying beside him — weird, given that your clothes were still in a corner of his bedroom.
the clock on the wall showed 8:32am. way too early for a saturday morning, and he knew you didn't have work today, so where the hell were you? with a groan and a stretch, oliver pushes the covers off him and starts walking towards his bedroom door, determined to find where you are and what you were up to.
that's when he hears it.
your voice softly humming a song that he recently showed you, and the clatter of cooking utensils. oh, morning craving, he thinks to himself. stepping more carefully now, oliver finally catches a glimpse of your figure. donned only in one of his tees, here you were, humming and dancing by yourself while you were cooking up breakfast.
"looks real tasty, doll," he says as he snakes his hands under your (his) shirt. jumping slightly from the sudden touch, you huff and give him a pout — the defiant yet adorable one that made him pursue you at first.
“you scared me. rude.”
oliver laughs, choosing to wrap his arms around your waist and leaning his head against your shoulder. you smelled good, he noted. better than any girls that came before you — but he pushed that thought away. after all, this was just a casual thing; oliver set up the rules himself.
raising your arm up and caressing his hair as an attempt to give some semblance of order in his messy bedhead, you speak before he can question you about what you're cooking.
"i wasn't too sure what to make for you, oli — with your footballer diet and all. i looked it up and tried to make something with enough proteins and carbs, but it might not be enough." the tips of your ears turned a light shade of pink, suddenly feeling self-conscious at how much effort you're putting into feeding the guy you're casually sleeping with.
the raven haired man's ears perked up, and he raised his head to stare at the counter. your phone was propped up against the knife block, "ubers sports nutrition guide," and "football player breakfast ideas" displayed on it, cut up fruits in a bowl, and scrambled eggs on toast with avocado slices on it, everything accompanied by a protein smoothie he mentioned liking before. the morning craving he thought you'd had, was actually a breakfast you'd carefully prepared for him.
it was then that oliver realized you were obscenely out of his league, and that maybe he was falling in love. a grin graced his face, one you were oblivious to, and his heart's pace picked up. oh, you were so out of his league, but if oliver was one thing, it was egoistic. that and persistent, and honestly, a little possessive. you had to be his endgame, right?
“if you don't like it, i can—”
“who said that i wouldn't like it? you're an angel. thanks, pretty girl.”
the butterflies in his stomach that emerged after making eye contact with you, the shy glint that let him know that maybe you also thought this could be more than a casual thing, the overly domestic moments you two shared made him ponder.
he was nearing his 30s, and the hookups with several different women, the soccer practices, and the games all over europe made him miss the feeling of home — and the closest oliver came to experiencing that feeling was when he'd hold you in his arms, your warm skin against his feeling like a hug.
your smaller frame and the comforting weight of your body resting against his, the warm scent was something he realized he missed, although you were with him right now.
oliver hadn't even slept with another woman since you two started seeing each other more frequently. funnily enough, it wasn't even because he didn't find other partners in bed — your essence just couldn't be recreated by anyone else. being with you came easily, with no practiced smile and forced laughter, and he found that he'd rather keep his bed and arms empty and face loneliness for a few more nights until he could see you again.
grabbing your hips and spinning you around to have you face him, he stared into your expectant eyes and took in how lovely you looked by his side. maybe you'd take the chance with him.
“say, why don't we call this hookup thing off? be less casual and go a little further, do some dates here and there — you know, maybe elope by date 5. sounds good?”
your flushed cheeks and subtle nod are confirmation enough for him to lean down and press an intimate kiss to your lip, one with no urgency but rather something that came closer to love.
perhaps eloping could happen by date 3, oliver thought.
