Been working on a 100% completion of Pokemon Sun this year, and while I'm mopping up every single item in the game, I noticed that all the type plates are located somewhere on the southern part of Melemele island, so I put together a little chart just to show where the locations of them all are!
Every plate, except the ones that can be found at the Antiquities Of The Ages in the mall are hidden items, meaning you'll need to use Stoutland to find them. The plates, regardless of location or acquisition method are also completely unobtainable until after beating Nanu's grand trial, where Team Skull will messily intercept the AOTA shopkeeper's delivery of them outside of the mall (This happens off-screen but is confirmed by the shopkeeper who sells the eight recovered plates after you buy one from him.)

Title/Prompt: The Moon
Pairing: Prof Aurea Juniper/Fennel (Scientificshipping), though they aren’t actually together yet here.
Rating: PG maybe? Nothing graphic at all but a lotta shit with ptsd related things.
Fandom: Pokemon
kind of based on an idea @crazychooklady had sent me, but then I fucked up and made it sad.
The professor had been at home for nearly an hour before the time she realized she hadn’t eaten all day. She only realized it because the sun had disappeared from the sky, the moon’s light doing a poor job of lighting the room now.
It was easy to forget to eat when she stayed so busy all day, feeling as through she made fifty laps around the entire lab by the time the day was over. Trainers arrived to pick out starter pokemon, back to her office to fill in their information, more paces in the other direction to switch out and receive pokemon from trainers farther along in their badge quests. It seemed as though the work never stopped, not that she was annoyed by it, just that there never seemed to be a moment to gather herself in the midst of it all. If the lab didn’t have set hours of operation for trainers, she was sure she’d never find time to do anything else. Keeping in touch with them in her off time was one thing, but she was certain she’d never get any sleep at all if trainers arrived at all hours to pick out starters. All of this on top of her own research.
Peering in her fridge, there weren’t many choices. Some frozen dinners, some fruits and vegetables she felt obligated to buy that she was pretty sure had been in there for a while, some hard boiled eggs and...not much else.
It felt like she always ordered delivery from the same three or four places, not that there were many to choose from in Nuvema. The microwave dinners didn’t seem all that bad.
Grabbing two of them at random, she uncovered the contents and put them in the microwave one at a time, throwing them both on plates and retiring to her bedroom.
“Here, I made you some dinner. Please eat something.”
Fennel pulled the covers off over her head, pushing herself upright. She looked over the plate Aurea had put on the nightstand, back at the professor, then back at the plate. Macaroni and cheese, something that resembled mashed potatoes, and breaded chicken. “I’m not really hungry right now. Thanks, though.”
Her Munna nudged her shoulder, letting out a soft cry. The Pokemon rarely left her side these days, either hovering over her or snug against her side as she was now.
“When was the last time you ate?”
Fennel gave her whimpering pokemon a pat, “Yesterday? The day before? I don’t know, I had some water while you were gone.”
Aurea chose to ignore this for now, settling next to the other woman in the bed and helping herself to dinner.
“Your appointment is tomorrow at 4. You’re not skipping it this time, I’m leaving work to take you.”
Fennel made some sort of dismissing grunt, sliding back down in to the bed. “I really don’t want to, but if you’re making me.”
“Your Munna has been sick for weeks, Fennel. Please, do it for her, at least.”
The dream scientist wasn’t about to argue with Aurea on her Pokemon’s welfare, especially because she was right on this one, and it was something that could be helped. The nightmares she was having constantly, while she didn’t remember vividly, were all the same. No wonder Munna had getting sick from eating them when it was all she could provide for her. She couldn’t even take care of her dearest Pokemon anymore without fucking it up even subconsciously.
“I said I would, Aurie.” Munna nuzzled against her again in clear concern of her master.
The professor accepted this answer, returning to shoving food in her mouth. If Fennel wasn’t going to eat, she easily could of finished her plate as well. But this was no time to be selfish. She held up the fork in front of Fennel, who stared at it for a few long seconds before hesitantly taking a bite.
“That’s not too bad,” she admitted as she pushed herself more upright.
“Well, yours is right there, help yourself. Before it gets cold.”
The scientist finally placed the plate on her lap, stirring the noodles around and taking a few lazy nibbles, but mostly moving the food around on the plate.
Such was how Professor Juniper spent her free time lately, eyeing the other woman like a Pidgeot, ensuring she was getting some type of nourishment. She couldn’t recall how long Fennel had been there now. Three months? Four? Six?
There was no point in asking Fennel of her long term plans anymore, because she didn’t have any.
Fennel outright refused to return home to Kanto, even though they both knew it was probably for the best that she did. She wouldn’t go back home until she proved her point of her studies in Unova, and even Professor Juniper hadn’t the slightest clue what that was anymore. Hadn’t the Dream Yard been her end game?
Fennel had remained in her apartment in Striaton for about two weeks after the explosion at the Dream Yard. Technically one week, spending a few days in the hospital as a precaution despite her repeating that she was fine. Until one day she had called the professor, sobbing that she couldn’t take it in that city anymore, and without a second thought, was whisked away to the apartment above the Juniper Pokemon Lab.
But the thoughts and the nightmares didn’t stop.
Aurea caught her talking to her mom on the phone a few times. She wasn’t lying, but she wasn’t telling the entire truth, either. Fennel had told her that she was staying with her friend until she figured out what she was going to do, which was partly true, but she wasn’t actively trying to do anything, either. The explosion at the Dream Yard had made international headlines, she couldn’t have hidden it from her family even if she wanted to. They had made the trip to Unova to visit her in the hospital and stayed with her for a few days, but Fennel wanted them gone. They had went as far to book her a flight home, which she refused.
The professor felt like she was intruding if she had been there while Fennel’s family was. She had never met them, either, though Fennel always spoke fondly of them in the past. It just didn’t seem like an appropriate time to meet her best friend’s parents and sister.
She managed to visit her twice in the hospital, even admitting to Fennel that she wasn’t sure why she was there besides more than a wellness check. Fennel had made it out of the building with nothing more than a few cuts and bruises, while she knew others on her team weren’t as lucky.
The only thing Fennel cared about initially was finding her beloved Musharna – that was, until, she realized how lucky she was to of made it out. Or maybe she knew it all along and it was using it as a distraction to her guilt. Either she had given up or her waking life became as hellish as her nightmares, because it was shortly after that she found herself where she was now, crashing in her best friend’s bed.
It was coaxing from both Aurea and her own mother that drove her to finally see the doctor about her uncharacteristic insomnia and nightmares. She wasn’t sleeping, she wasn’t eating, she wore the same pajamas for days at a time. Then she complained that the medicine prescribed to her only made her want to sleep, which only resulted in the panic attacks and nightmares that seemed more frequently than not lately.
The pair had been sitting in silence for a while – Fennel still barely picking at her food, the professor tossing her own empty plate aside.
“Have, um...you talked to your family lately?”
“My sister is thinking about moving here, to Unova. She developed a new PC system that the League took interest in,” eyes still on her plate in disinterest.
“I heard something about that.”
“So stupid. It’s like she’s coming here just to show me up, that she’s successful here, and I’m not.”
“She wanted to bring it to Unova to come help you, Fennel.”
“Then why here? Of the tons of other regions, she happened to pick the one that I moved to, to get from far away from home as I could? She’s doing it to shove it in my face, how is that going to help me?”
“Because she cares about you, and so do I.”
“I don’t know why,” Fennel placed the still mostly full plate back on the night stand.
Aurea never knew what to say when Fennel made such statements about herself, only deciding that her actions would speak louder than words eventually. She knew agreeing with her sister moving to the region would only make her more hostile, and despite Amanita having the best intentions, Fennel had only seen it as a ploy to humiliate her for some reason.
Aurea must have shifted her weight unintentionally, probably in the discomfort of the conversation, which caused Fennel to latch on to her arm, pulling it against her chest and holding it between her arms.
“Please stay with me,” Fennel pleaded with her in the same tone as she had just about every night she was there. Affection was never something that came naturally to the brunette, but she never seemed to mind when Fennel did this, despite her feeling extremely stiff at the initial gesture. Nor did she understand why Fennel always seemed terrified that she was going to leave at any given point. Once she was in the bedroom with her, it was usually where she needed to stay until the next morning if only to quell both of their worries. The full size bed was an upgrade from the twin mattress on the floor that they shared in their old apartment, but it probably wasn’t meant for two people. Aurea had become accustomed to sleeping alone in the larger bed with room to spare, but anymore it didn’t make a difference to her if Fennel shared it with her or not.
“I don’t care if you get your laptop or phone or whatever and do work, but please just stay here. Wake me up if you think I’m having another nightmare, if Munna starts acting funny...or just wake me up in general, so I don’t sleep deep enough to have a nightmare.”
The professor had lost her share of sleep just as well over the last few months, even if it wasn’t for the same reason Fennel had. She lost count of the nights she had purposefully kept herself awake to keep an eye on her if she was having a particularly bad night, thankful both in the moment and in the morning that coffee existed. “Hopefully they’ll give you some different medication tomorrow, or something, I’m sorry that I don’t know how this works.”
“They keep telling me it takes a while to get in to my system to do whatever it’s supposed to do...but I know what it’s doing, and how I’m feeling, why do I need to wait?”
“That’s why you need to go to your appointments and tell them.”
“I’m so, so, sick of this. I just don’t want to feel like this anymore. I’ve been such a burden to you.” Fennel tightened her grip on Aurea’s arm for half a second before letting go entirely, if only to push her hair out of her eyes. “You know...I always used to look forward to dreaming...good dreams, bad dreams, whatever. I know for a fact it makes different types of dream mist, and it was something I wanted to study for a while, but not anymore.”
“I think that you should try to sleep, but if you don’t want to, I’ll stay up and watch some movies with you, or whatever you want to do.”
Fennel gave a shrug at the suggestion, not caring one way or the other. “I’m okay with us just sitting here, especially if you have stuff to do. You can sleep if you need to.”
Aurea removed the remote from the night stand, hitting a few buttons and scrolling through various streaming services until she found something that would keep the other woman distracted. For some reason, Fennel always liked the cartoon Ponytas. She never appeared to react to anything happening on the show, but it seemed to calm her down. It wasn’t that the professor was annoyed with her, let alone mad or even upset, it just felt as if she repeated herself every single day since she had been there with no improving results. Every conversation seemed to put Fennel on the defense when there was no reason for her to be, or the opposite to which she became confrontational over nothing and never an in between.
She’d stay up all night watching silly cartoons if it meant a few hours of peace for the dream scientist.

Let’s Talk About Pokemon - Arceus
youtube
493: Arceus
Here we are. The end of Gen 4, and here at the most ultimate Pokemon of them all. Yes, a bunch of Legendaries have magical powers, mythology, and are even deity-figures. But Arceus here is basically PokeGod himself. Creator of Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, and the whole stinkin universe. And you can capture it and make it do whatever you want. Pet it and feed it muffins and beans all you'd like. Name it Mr. Wiggles and it can't say no. Little did we know the Pokemon protagonists are god-controlling, godless omnipotent monsters themselves.
But beyond all that, you can also give Arceus a set of items unique to its own use, 17 plates for all the non-Normal types to turn it into any type in the game you wish. Interestingly enough, the Z-Crystals for the respective types from Sun and Moon have the same effect. Whether that's a gameplay thing or some lore implications is yet to be known. Maybe we'll find out in those Sinnoh remakes everyone's clamoring for. But yes, each one change's Arceus' color scheme slightly to better reflect which type it currently is.
I think Arceus is a design that works only within the context that it is the God of all Pokemon. It's pretty extraneous and overall really “holy” looking to a point where it's dangerously close to looking out of place for Pokemon, but it just barely manages to not look weird in the wrong ways. And I love that the God of Pokemon gets to look like this. It looks and feels angelic and serene, but in a really strange and otherworldly way. Which is of course all the more befitting for something that apparently existed before the universe did. It's odd and fleshy, and even if its base design is clearly that of a horse or goat, it still looks like nothing from that plain of existence.
And easily the most eye-catching part of its design is that big halo around its midsection. The main object that changes color in the presence of a Plate or Z-Crystal, and basically the symbol of Arceus itself. So much so that once another Pokemon got a similar-looking pattern on it, the theory crafting just went absolutely nuts. And I kinda like that honestly. Arceus is getting closer and closer to 10 years old now, and there's still such an air of uncertainty around it. And that's even after we were given a mythological story about how it created everything. Out of all Pokemon, it's the most deserving of the title “epic.”
Personal Score: 10/10
Spooky
As per usual, there’s going to be a slight break between now and the Gen 4 recap. See you then!

What are the top 5 weirdest dreams you’ve ever had?
Holy bloody jack, I didn’t even know this was in my ask. I don’t know what’s up with my inbox, but if you’re readin’ this, I got your message and I apologize if it was late!
Who’s ready for some acidic, bizarrest, and very nonsensical dreams you have to witness? I sure am.
5.) Bombing Barbecue
This particular dream was recent, and even though I had been reluctant to put this up, I also cackled about it the whole day.
In the dream, I happened to be featured as the new judge for “Shark Tank,” upon getting that much exposure for making music (I wish I did make music, ehehehe). As a judge, I had shown no mercy to any contestant, only doing so for anything involving art and art only, and I had reviewers calling me a “tsundere” because of that. Bloody jack, one of my famous quotes in the show was, “Those millions of dollars would be used to buy myself Cuphead. I’m out.”
One day, two certain owners from a dead-end company that was infamous in a Kitchen Nightmares episode appeared, introducing us a whole new way to get your barbecue to be cooked even faster. Of course, I immediately eliminated myself from the situation, because I was literally frightened from such a sight. In agreement to what I had to say, they did the same.
Want to know why we did as such? The two owners basically fired a ballistic missile in an empty area that has a plate of raw meat on it, and the whole area was wiped out, leaving behind the same food, but now perfectly cooked.
One of the judges did give them an offer, but the two went hostile, saying that the offer was as useless as Gordon Ramsey, and they left. That same judge fired an army of ducks to attack them, one of them ramming into my face before I would wake up.
4.) America’s Got Marshadow
This was during the chase for Marshadow, in where everyone was begging for codes of the new Mythical Pokemon. In this dream, it didn’t go as I originally planned.
I was heading to Gamestop, and I was basically buying a new 3DS game that was said to be critically acclaimed. The person who managed the place told me he has one last Marshadow code just for me, and told me to never give it to anyone. In excitement, I went home as if I were in a movie, heading to my room (that was purple and filled with Chandelures), and got myself the beloved Pokemon.
However, once I achieved it, Marshadow immediately broke out of the game, and invited me to a brand new episode of “America’s Got Talent,” with a promise of money for my family. In delight, I accepted it, and thus was teleported to the front stage.
There were four judges that were there: Micheal Bay, Hau Memes, my fucking sister, and Darky. All of them told me that I claimed to master and perform every last Z-Move in the book, and wanted to see if it was true. So I did so, and I was surprisingly good at it. The audience was in awe from how I performed one move after another, complete with explosions and fireworks. Hell, at one moment, the cameraman showed Markiplier’s reaction, who was basically frightened from what he has witnessed.
Once that was done, the four judges had their jaws dropping, and Marshadow didn’t like how I got this much attention. Out of nowhere, it turned into Arceus and tried to kill me, but not before the said duck rammed into my face.
3.) Hau-stagram
This dream is exactly what it says on the label. In the dream, Generation 9 had arrived, and the new region was based on the Middle East as a way to share their anti-nuclear weapon propaganda. The game was considered the “Watership Down” of Pokemon games, because it was the game that hit home to the victims of war.
However, there was one particular moment where the rival goes back in time to help a baby Normal/Ghost type legendary find its true self, aka Hau, and I was helping him out as well. One of Hau’s selves wasn’t island kahuna, but instead a social media critic that’s popular on YouTube. Upon realizing who I was, he asked if I could help him out with a couple reviews, and didn’t take no for an answer.
The first contestant was a newbie, and had an Instagram on hand with a couple selfies and stolen pictures to go with. They were immediately eliminated from the contest, Hau saying, “Instagram is for bigots. Why don’t you try something trendy, like Tumblr?”
The next contestant was an artist, and a professional, but only had an Instagram. Showing a bit of sympathy, Hau gave the said person a 6/10, only because their art managed to make up for it.
The final contestant… Oh golly, the final contestant, in which was my sister out of all things. Hau was shocked to see her, and found out that you can play the story-mode in multi-player without fail. My sister didn’t back down, showing off both her Twitter and her Tumblr, in which made him faint and gave it a “Necrozma out of ten.”
King Dice was somehow there was well, being the inspector of Hau’s said reviews. He congratulated him on his success and me for helping him out. While I was forced into a Pokemon battle (a note to add was that he had a Ribombee and a Chandelure in his team), things still went as usual. King Dice gave him the new title as “Mister King Critic.”
And then I awoke from bed.
2.) Ultra Dice
This fever dream was the origin of the Emperor Lunacy AU, although I did replace the said Necrozma fusion with Chandelure.
In this dream, the creators behind Cuphead had a new DLC, and was bought by Nintendo in order to keep the traditional 1930s animation. When the Direct had announced a new DLC for one of the sequels, many of us were excited and weren’t afraid to spend money on it.
One of the DLCs was, well, a bit weirder than it was. They brought back King Dice to mark the yearly anniversary of the game, but also marked the anniversary of Ultra Sun and Moon, in which a few people found confusing but was okay with.
Now, you think because it was a DLC made just for King Dice, it would be as normal as it is? Well, you’re bloody wrong.
King Dice had a second stage, and it involved him breaking out of his own dice head to reveal a prism-like void. His attacks mostly involved cards that turn into “burning lights” and sucking the player into his head to leave it with one HP left.
Once you battle him, there’s no going back, and exiting the game won’t do much, either. Winning to him means you’re free to go, but lose to him, and he mercy-kills you by destroying your computer, the only game over text shown in Morse code below before the blue screen:
.- .-.. .-.. / .. … / .- -. / . -. .. –. – .- –..– / .- -. -.. / - …. ..- … / -.– — ..- .-. / – .. -. -.. / – . .- -. … / -. — - …. .. -. –. .-.-.-
1.) The Empty Ones
I won’t say this is a dream, but rather something I had in mind all through the night.
In the “daydream,” my younger self and my pack of goth friends were wandering through the night, laughing and talking while one of my friend’s dad drunk drives us to a party that was a after-Halloween party. Bluntly ignorant, we entered the house without any warning, and somehow crashed it.
As the party progressed, I slowly became self-aware of what was happening outside, and decided to see what it was. There was a group of goths just like us, but in a form of a cult instead. They didn’t mind me “joining,” since they said it was “the ritual to end everything.” Turns out, this was a ritual to bring back the ghosts of “wound and flesh” in order to protect us from a rising threat, and when the ritual functioned, I saw the pain in their eyes.
The ghosts started to possess one person after another, a massacre that struck just immediately, but I didn’t see any bloodshed, the party members became ghosts as well, going after the racists in the neighborhood, leaving a trail of candy for children to eat. I wasn’t effected because one of the cult members said my “Pokemon type,” could be the case (I did a quiz before, and I got Electric/Dark, so there’s something).
I eventually saw a pond that was two yards deep, and figured that the only way to put an end to this is if I joined them, and so I took my life. The ghosts saw that I was “chosen,” and followed me into the waters below as I delve into a permanent sleep.
If you thought the dream was scary, it all turned out to be one giant movie, and while it did get positive reviews, it didn’t do well in the box office. I never did die from drowning, because I was jumping on one giant pillow.

Moonvale's Pokemon Commentary: #115 Kangaskhan
Congratulations! A Kangaskhan and its child hatched from the egg! ...Wait. What?
Just for Looks:
The only thing that Kangaskhan has that resembles a kangaroo is the fact it has a pouch. Could be named after any other marsupial and have the same traits... Its also supposed to have elements of the armor used by Genghis Khan's soldiers. I mean, I guess you could say that if you starch up helmet flaps so they're stuck pointing out like you got wings on yer helmet. And I guess the shoulders look like the shoulder armor? But they also look like any other epaulette to me. Kangaskhan: Yep, it technically fits the references!
Bulbapedia also mentioned a tree-kangaroo that I just now learned exists... but Kangaskhan doesn't resemble that any more than a normal Kangaroo to me.
I imagine Kangaskhan's supposed to look like the segmented scale-like armor as well but... look at her. Does this woman look like she's got scales? Not to me. She looks like she's got a tough leather hide with thicker pads in random places, and a softer hide on her stomach to comfort her baby. She's a really nice shade of brown and then creamy sandy brown. The colors look nice together. The baby is super cute, smaller, and its hide hasn't hardened yet so its a soft purplish grey instead of brown with a creamy sand colored belly.
Now then, this pokemon also has a mega evolution! Except the one who mega evolves is the baby! Mom stays the same! The baby stays the same shade of purple-ish grey, but grows a few years worth in size, has some extra spikes under its ears that its mother doesn't have, and has developed some of the hardened pads its mother has. Except... those pads are different. They cover the baby's abdomen. The baby/child lacks a pouch of any kind. If you saw the anime, the baby's never been shown with a pouch either as far as I know. I'm pretty sure pouches don't just show up on marsupials. My headcanon is that there are male Kangaskhan, but we have never seen them because they stay deep in the caves around where Kangaskhan call home and keep an eye on the children that have grown old enough to no longer need to stay in the mothers' pouches!
Anyway enough of my lore building (can you tell this was the other pokemon I had started doing in-universe lore on years ago for that project I mentioned in the Larvitar review? That's right. The generator gave me the same two it gave me years ago, just in reverse order). Onto the shinies! Shiny adult Kangaskhan are a more brown grey than brown. Its head plate is a dirty brown green. The baby is a similar shade to its mother, but becomes more pink-purple when it mega evolves. I don't hate these colors. They still look really nice together! Good job, Kangaskhan!
What's in the Name:
I mentioned it before, but Kangaskhan's name comes from Kangaroo + Gengis Khan: the notoriously violent leader of the Mongolian empire. I guess this references how violently protective the mom is towards her baby? Personally I'd have called it Kangabearsaur. Because it's basically a kangaroo dinosaur that's as protective as a mother bear is to her cubs.
The Japanese name, Garura, is apparently derived from the Japanese way of saying Kangaroo (the garu part of its name) as well as ruler (rura). Kangaroo Ruler!
The 'Dex Says:
Mother Kangaskhan carry their babies until they're three years of age. (It's at this point where I like to theorize the never seen fathers take their turn to raise the young ones.) One of the Alola dex entries state that at this time the mother will cry wildly because she misses her baby. Aw. Poor Mama doesn't like an empty nest.
When they find a place they feel is safe, they'll let their children out of their pouch to play, but never stray far and always keep an eye on them. That's why, if you see a baby Kangaskhan playing in the wild, you should not approach it and instead turn around and go back the way you came and pray Mama didn't put herself between you and surviving the hike you decided to take in Kangaskhan country. Because no matter how injured a mother Kangaskhan becomes, even if it is dying from those injuries, she will not give up fighting until she knows her baby is safe. But you wouldn't hurt the mother that badly, would you? You're not an awful person, right? You'd never kill a Mama Kangaskhan to capture its now Cubone’d child? That's how you get angry mom ghosts. And I imagine a Kangaskhan ghost is a much bigger nightmare to deal with than a Marowak ghost.
Now then, onto the entries for Mega Kangaskhan! In Alola the dex seems to have a split personality disorder on discussing the infant's growth. In sun the mother is said to beam with pride at the growth of her child, and that pride in turn strengthens the little one even more. Meanwhile Moon states that the child's growth has led it to only know fighting and it causes its mother to worry about its future. Ultra Sun adds onto the latter, while Ultra Moon just mentions seeing her child grown reminds the mother that the child will have to leave her some day. And then you have the Let's Go games. Mom and Baby fight in harmony. Gosh the Let's Go games look more and more like the Nick Jr. of Pokemon every day to me.
It's Rating Time!
Both forms get a 4/5 from me. I love Kangaskhan. I love the Mega since it's not actually physically harming the pokemon. It's just basically the kid growing up with a step parent teaching it that YOU ARE A FIGHTER AND THAT IS MOST IMPORTANT like some kind of Sports obsessed Step Father trying to raise the next star player for [INSERT SPORT OF CHOICE HERE]. If anything the bad side of Mega Evolution is because you're a terrible parent! Mama Kangaskhan wants a divorce and full custody of the child. Officer Jenny will be serving you your papers for the divorce proceedings soon.
But Wait, There's More:
Good news, Pokemon conspiracy theorists! Kangaskhan, Cubone, and Marowak WERE MEANT TO BE RELATED! While you'll have to scroll down to find the section about this on that page (use the find feature and type in “146 Marowak Evolution”) to see the sprite, I'll at least share the important text with you.
The Marowak evolution is separate from Kangaskhan, but they share the same theme. In the end, it would have become a loving parent to its baby Cubone, maybe even having adopted it (after all, it still has a skull on its head.) It could be holding the baby, or it may have a pouch like Kangaskhan. We can’t tell for sure what’s going on in those pixels.
I'm so tired of typing the word Kangaskhan. You'd think after this I'd know how to spell it but I still keep screwing it up.

Holy fuck. I don’t even know where to start.
Well, first of all, we’re okay. Neither of us are hurt, so there’s at least that going for us. But otherwise…what the fuck.
Early the next morning we took a Charizard Glide back to Malie City, grabbed some coffee, fruit, and breakfast sandwiches at some place called Bewear Boba before heading over to the pier. Gladion and Hau were both waiting at the dock, ready to board the Aether-emblazoned boat, but before we could board Nanu called out after us, saying that we couldn’t consider Ula’ula “complete” without battling him, the grand Kahuna. I looked around and asked….here? Now? To which he just shrugged and said “I doubt you’re coming back after anyway, so…yeah.”
It was a tough battle for me—those fucking Alola Persians and their thick fur make them a REAL pain to take down, especially with a mostly physically-oriented team like mine. Tesla was the one who ended up FINALLY taking down that purple cat with a powerful Thunder. Vera and I were both given Darkinium Z. Vera didn’t even ask why she was being given this Z-Crystal without having to battle him, so I did instead. Nanu shrugged again and said “You beat me and I think she could beat you. Plus, I don’t want to battle again. Have fun at Aether, or whatever.” Charming guy.
Gladion was quiet the whole way over. I kept asking him exactly who he was involved with, and how he knew both Aether and Skull, and how he knew Lillie, but he doggedly ignored me. Vera was pretty quiet, too. Seemed pensive. Staring out the window. Only Hau was talking, babbling like a fountain. He was trying to play it off like he wasn’t nervous at all, but I could hear the strained laughter and see his hands fidgeting and shaking. Mine were, too.
Once we arrived, we were greeted by Faba and a team of Aether scientists, who all said that it didn’t matter if we were here, we’d never make it through to the President anyway, that there were already “plans in action that we were powerless to stop,” etc etc. All these big words coming from someone who’s so easy to push over in battle! As a “courtesy” to us, Faba unlocked the elevator, which was SUPPOSED to go to the top floor but instead led us to the basement. We split up and poked around the different research rooms, hoping to find some information on Nebby/Cosmog and what they were planning to do with it. The room I was in contained information on a prototype they were working on called “Type: Full,” which was intended to serve as a Beast killer with a plate system similar to the one Arceus uses. But apparently the three prototypes went berserk and had to have a mask put on them to nullify their powers. They were renamed “Type: Null” and cryogenically frozen. How in the fuck did Gladion have one of these Type: Null creatures?
I scoured the rest of the room, but it was just filled with case studies and notes on Type: Null. I eventually left, but I was filled with a burning curiosity as to where the other two Type: Null were. I hated to think of them frozen. But then again, was it better to have them out with someone like Gladion, who just pushes it to fight constantly? I don’t know. I hoped they were okay, wherever they were.
Turns out Vera found the information that we needed to know about Cosmog: it has the ability to open wormholes to another dimension. That’s when the research I read on Type: Null made sense. Aether was deliberately trying to capture these Ultra Beasts that people keep talking about. To what end I’m not entirely sure, but I didn’t trust that it was for any good reason. This whole Aether Paradise was probably just a front.
We were ambushed by scientists on our way back to the elevator. When we finally reached it, Wicke was waiting for us. She greeted Hau, Vera, and I warmly, but was especially kindly with “young Master Gladion,” who for once wasn’t scowling. She used her ID to badge us up to the top floor of the foundation. Before I left, she grabbed my arm and asked me to look after Gladion, that what we were about to encounter wasn’t going to be easy for him. May I remind you that at this point NOBODY has told me anything about what’s going on with Gladion, and I’m starting to get tired of it.
A tall, sterile building stood before us; we had to battle our way through Skull grunts and Guzma to get in. This bug dude just does not know when to quit. As we went to open the door he shoved Gladion, asking him if he was ready to face his mom and sister after a few years apart. Wouldn’t you know it! Lusamine is his mom and Lillie is his sister. I looked over at Vera, who in turn just rolled her eyes and shook her head and mouthed “I know.” Gladion had his fists up, shaking all over with anger, ready to beat down on Guzma. I put a hand on his shoulder and led him inside with us.
You remember those total weird beards that I keep running into? The Ultra Recon Squad? These fashion space bitches? I shouldn’t say bitches, they’re actually pretty nice. But they were there, and they were super upset that they’d been double-crossed by Lusamine, who had recruited them under the premise that they’d be helping protect the Ultra Beasts. They challenged me again with their Poipole, just to make sure that I was prepared to take on Lusamine. I won and we pressed on to Lusamine’s laboratory.
The first things you see when you walk into this lab are the Pokemon suspended in ice, cryogenically preserved. The rest of the room is harsh and sterile, just aggressively white and clean. Lusamine was standing with Lillie and Nebby in the center of the room. Lillie was desperately pleading with her mother to leave Nebby alone, that it would expend all its energy, perhaps fatally, if she were to use its power in the state it’s in. Lusamine paid no heed, and said that since her own rotten children did not love her that she would lavish her love upon these Ultra Beasts instead. Yikes! She then turned her gaze on me and said, “And you? What would your mother think about you interfering in family business like this?” And I was suddenly unaware if she knew about who Mom was specifically (very possible, Mom’s a well-known businesswoman) or if she was just referring to my mom, generally speaking. I didn’t care. Hau pulled Lillie off to the side as Lusamine and I squared off in battle.
She was a tough fight, but not anywhere close enough to beat my amazing team. I reached over to pick up the bag holding Nebby, but this bitch steps on my hand, then kicks it away! Takes the bag, shakes it until a wormhole opens up behind her. Yells something about how they’ll miss her once she’s gone, once they can’t feel her love…something to that extent. Jumped in the wormhole and disappeared from sight. Before it closed, Guzma leapt through after her. The wormhole collapsed on itself behind them and suddenly the room was eerily still, except for the humming of the cryogenic machines. Lillie ran over to the bag and unzipped it; Nebby was in a catatonic state, completely unresponsive. She put it back in the bag and held it close.
Lillie and Gladion regarded each other wordlessly before they hugged. He said that we were welcome to stay for a night or two to recover. The Ultra Recon Squad greeted us back in the main building, where they said that in order to find Lusamine and stop Necrozma that we’d need to head over to the Altar of the Moone over on Poni Island and summon one of the legendary Pokemon. I thanked Gladion for his hospitality, took my room key, and as soon as I was alone took the longest, hottest shower that I could. This all felt super unreal. A few weeks ago I was getting drunk at a hotel, and not to sound to trite about it, didn’t have a care in the world! Now it was beginning to feel more and more like the weight of the world was resting on my shoulders.
A few hours later and I was drinking from the mini bar in the room, watching a Johto sitcom that Dad sometimes watches when he’s cooking, when I heard a knock on my door. It was Vera, freshly showered, looking so sad and tired! I invited her in. I made her a Pinap cocktail and flopped back onto the bed. We talked about what had happened today, whether or not we were willing to traverse different dimensions to chase after a terrible mom and the grown man she adopted as her child (very tentative yeses from both of us), what the next steps were. Poni Island seemed inevitable, even if we were just going there to finish our Island Challenges. We agreed that we were in no rush to find Lusamine, but that the threat of Necrozma emerging from a wormhole and…eating the sun? Stealing the light? Was a pressing issue we could not avoid.
I kinda miss my job. Or more accurately, I miss doing work. I don’t think I’m built entirely for leisure like this. I need to be active, be doing something. I think I’ll start to look for jobs next week. You know! If the world as we know it doesn’t come to an end. I should be asleep right now. Vera’s totally conked out in the bed next to me. She came to just lie down for “just a little bit” before she headed back to her room, but once she laid down she said that it felt strange to be in such a quiet and empty room, that she was used to sharing a bed with Leon and sometimes Julian and sometimes that stupid Rockruff, Biscuit. I for one am still super uncomfortable about the thought of Leon sharing a bed with my sister, but that’s not a Here And Now problem and besides, I kind of like having her here, too. Nice to not feel so alone. Guess it’s time to turn off the TV and try to sleep, too. If! My thoughts can turn off long enough for me to do that!

Meet the artist drawing millions of YouTube views
Ross Tran steps out of his Californian apartment. The sun shines in the sky above and a car idles on the road below. Holding a couple of large canvases, he climbs over a balcony, shimmies down a tree and speaks to camera: “Welcome to another episode of Ross Draws. It’s my graduation episode!”
Get Adobe Creative Cloud
He runs to the waiting car. Animated sparks fly. He throws his artwork through the open window, jumps into the driver’s seat and speeds away. The hand-written personalised number plate taped to the back of his Chevy reads: COLOR DODGE.
In just 20 seconds, we see why the 23-year-old artist’s videos have earned nearly two million views on his YouTube channel: the quick cuts, the playful tone, the breathless, almost hyperactive presenting style; whistle-stop tours of his art school, apartment and various locations around California; interviews with the smiley, unbelievably healthy-looking friends and teachers who populate those places…
And, of course, the thing that underpins the channel’s success, Tran’s art – bright, stylised, painterly, with tutorials explaining how to paint his work. What you’d never know by watching these videos is that the channel “came from a dark place.”
“A piece from my Astro Series. It’s a collection of portraits involving some kind of white garment and shapes as the influence.”
Personality is key
Tran is a recent graduate of Pasadena’s ArtCenter College of Design. He won his first concept artist job at the nearby West Studio when he was just 17. A couple of years later, he worked as lead character designer on his first feature film – creating Echo for the 2014 animated movie Earth to Echo. He now counts among his clients Disney, Samsung and Microsoft, and has since worked on the upcoming Halo Franchise and several more films.
How did he win so many big jobs at such a young age? “You have to personalise your portfolio so it represents what you really want to do,” he says. “For instance, if you love character design and want to get hired for it, make your portfolio and online presence character-based. I’ve seen a lot of people put too many types of work in their portfolio. It makes them look disposable. The last thing you want to be is a robot. Show the world who you are and what you want to do.”
“This was one of the few pieces I did in my year off art to pursue acting. I just loved to paint and felt the need to express myself artistically.”
He says some people may be familiar with his earlier work, but most of this success has come through Ross Draws, the YouTube channel that he started at the end of 2011.
“I actually grew up really shy,” he says, an image very different from the boisterous character he presents in his videos. “I had a lot of insecurities growing up. I think Ross Draws represents a side of myself that depicts transformation and self-growth. I consider myself an introvert, but one who’s learning extroverted skills.”
“This was from the third episode on my YouTube channel, drawing Nidalee from League. She’s one of my favourite characters and I had to draw her!”
Even after earning a place at the prestigious ArtCenter College of Design, Tran says he felt something was missing in his life. He was passionate about art, but also loved making people laugh. So he took a year off and pursued an acting career.
Tran juggled art school and auditions. He took extra classes in improv and scene study. The nearest he got to a big break was an audition for a pilot on the Fox network.
“My work has recently taken a more stylised, graphic approach, while still pertaining to my painterly roots.”
The small part called for a designer who freaks out a lot. “My perfect role!” Tran says. The producers of hit shows Psych and Scrubs were in the audition room and he made them laugh. They gave the part – which the script labelled “Asian Best Friend” – to a white person.
“I’m not sure the pilot even got picked up,” he says. “But it was a great experience. I also auditioned for a lot of commercials.”
“I always got tons of requests to draw my dog and found a perfect opportunity – to celebrate one year on YouTube.”
How to draw and paint – 95 pro tips and tutorials
Branching out on YouTube
“I grew up watching The PowerPuff Girls and wanted to do my take on it. I was bringing my love of graphics in the piece.”
A friend suggested he start a YouTube channel combining the two things: art and making people laugh. “I hesitated, thinking it wasn’t really my thing. Prior to the channel, I felt like I had no purpose. I was waking up and feeling really unmotivated to do anything. Uninspired, unwilling, defeated.
“Acting helped me to commit. Because, in acting, you have to commit 110 per cent or else no one will believe you, not even you. You can’t be in your head. Going on those auditions and to classes helped me to commit to the moment and just do it, no thinking. It’s a practice I’ve also taken into my art. If you have an idea, don’t be afraid to voice it.”
“This piece is quite special to me. People often mention that this was one of the first episodes/pieces they saw when they discovered me.”
When Tran reinvented himself as Ross Draws, it shook up his personal life and kickstarted his career. But the success of the YouTube channel brought new problems. “My schedule is different every week, every day,” he says. “Sometimes I feel I overload myself. I’m definitely what they call a night owl. I go to sleep anywhere from 2 to 5am. As my channel grows, so do my opportunities – conventions, signings, gigs – and it’s been harder to have a set schedule. It’s still currently a learning curve. But most of my week consists of editing my videos and painting.”
Growing up, Tran was into TV shows like Pokemon, Sailor Moon and Power Rangers – you can see those influences in his art and on his channel. He has a few key rules when making videos. Our attention span is getting shorter and shorter, he says, so he keeps footage under the six-minute mark. It’s also important to be yourself, connect with your audience and collaborate with other people. He’s made videos with artists he looks up to, like Dan LuVisi and Anthony Jones, but also collaborations with non-artists, such as Jimmy Wong and Yoshi Sudarso, who plays the Blue Ranger on the new Power Rangers show.
“This was another one that sat in my folder for about two years. I never knew how to finish it, but one day I opened it up and let the story breathe.”
The YouTube channel brought Tran new confidence, which was mirrored in his art. When he started at ArtCenter College of Design, he knew he was a capable painter but felt his work was too heavily influenced by his favourite artists. Then he painted a piece called Journey – a landmark in which he found his own voice and techniques.
Tran works with Premiere and After Effects for his videos, Photoshop and Lightroom for painting. Using all Adobe software helps him easily switch between apps. One website recently labelled him the “Master of Color Dodge.” The blend mode creates extra depth and makes colours really pop off the screen, an almost glowing effect that’s present in much of Tran’s work.
“This has been sitting in my WIP folder for about three years. A lot of my pieces sit there until I can see the piece turn into something unique to me.”
It’s not cheating
Tran hadn’t always used such techniques. “At a young age, I thought that using certain methods as cheating, only to realise now that it doesn’t matter. You can learn from anything, any method, anywhere. Have an open mind and you can absorb information easier and faster.”
After graduating college, Tran left the apartment that features in many of his YouTube videos. He now rents a house with friends, a place just outside Los Angeles. “We call it The Grind House,” he says. The Grind House? “It’s where we’re going to grind on our stuff for a year and decide what to do from there. There’s not much of an art scene in my area, but I love the motivational energy that the house has.”
“This piece was commissioned for the deviantART+Blizzard Campaign ‘21 Days of Overwatch’. It’s probably my best seller at my first convention, Anime Expo.”
“Motivational energy” is a perfect term. It’s in everything Tran says and does. You can still see his influences in his work. There’s a bit of Jaime Jones in there, some Craig Mullins and Claire Wending. But despite his youth, he has found a style, voice and motivational energy of his own – and, perhaps most importantly, a platform on which to share it. That’s the one piece of advice he’s keen to get across: do it your own way, on your own terms.
“My videos are funded by my amazing supporters on Patreon. I’m blessed to have fans who love what I do and who want the exclusive content that comes with each episode. Patreon is definitely a career option for artists.” Tran’s endorsement of Patreon comes with a caveat, however: only launch when you’re ready. “I held off on making my page until I knew I had quality content for the people who supported me.
“There’s always a whimsical element to my work, either in the colours or the composition.”
“If you do what you love, numbers and finance shouldn’t matter,” Tran adds. “I have friends who absolutely love their studio jobs and want to be surrounded by people. I also had friends who quit those jobs, made a Patreon and earned less, but loved what they do.
“I think it’s about finding your own instrument and how to operate at your fullest potential. In today’s industry – and society – we too often compare ourselves to others, which fuels our inner self-critic. We’re all on our own journey at our own pace. We all have different inspirations, a different drive that propels us forward.”

Hints
An Easy Way Of Defeating Dialga
Get a Pokemon learn “Mirror Move” (Torchic learns “Mirror Move” around Lv.37). So when Dialga uses Roar Of Time, the damage you take will be returned to Dialga itself. Also take around 4 reviver seeds with you in case you need it (Note: You can use this trick against other bosses or other tuff Pokemons)
Golden Apples
Golden Apples are extremely rare food items. They completely refill and greatly increase the size of the eating pokemon’s belly. To find them, complete a job that involves exploring a Golden Chamber. The boxes in the chamber will contain the apples when you get them appraised.
Secret Slab/Mystery Part
To get the Secret Slab or the Mystery Part (needed for finding certain special pokemon), check the job listings board for a client looking to go on a mission and find either item.
How To Get Hitmontop, Hitmonchan, Or Hitmonlee
First, you have to get to Mt. Travail. Then, keep fighting till you get to a tyrogue. Beat it and recruit it. Keep leveling it up to at least level 20. If you want a hitmonlee make the attack greater than defense. If you want a hitmontop make the attack equal to the defense and if you want a hitmonchan make the defense greater than the attack.
Darkrai
To get Darkria to join your team you need a mystery part.
Unlocking The “Secret Rank”
After you beat the game(defeating Dialga) do some missions and you will eventually find a Mr. Mime at the Treasure Town. Talk to him and he will tell you about Blizzard Island and how a long time ago Scizor got trapped deep in Blizzard Island. Then you gain access to Blizzard Island. Get through the 20 floors and you go to Crevice Cave. Get through its 10 floors and save at the Kangaskhan Statue and get through another 14 floors. Then you meet Frosslass. Fight him and then you will save Scizor and he will thank you by giving you the Secret Rank.
How To Beat Mew
To beat mew you’ll need about 4 X-eye seeds. If you don’t have any X-eye seeds, you will need tons of reviver seeds. You would a lot need a psychic pokemon, in that case you would not need reviver seeds. Do not bring any rock pokemon with you. When your attacking mew throw one of you X-eye seeds at it. If Mew dodges the seed, throw another one. After being hit with an X-eye Mew can’t see straight. Use Psychic and Confusion to bring down Mew. (Hint: You can also use Crunch or Bite to bring down Mew)
Easier Way Of Defeating Tough Bosses Or Outlaws
Using sleep seeds, stun seeds, x-eye seeds, etc, will make it easier to defeat tough enemies.
Evolving Starters
After unlocking the ability to evolve pokemon by graduating from the guild, recruit palkia to be able to evolve your starters
Golden Mask
My friend has the Golden Mask and he says that you make new recruits faster with the golden mask. To get it, go to one of the Zero Isle dungeons and complete the dungeon.
Beat Dialga
Here is a quick way to beat Dialga. Use ground moves! It took me 5 digs (3 missed) to beat him.
Final Maze
When you beat the game [beat dialga] go down to the dojo. You will hear a loud noise and there you have it the Final Maze.
Pokemon Training
If you feel that you need to strengthen yourself and collect new items, you should train at the Marowak Dojo. Here, you can train without risk of losing any items if your KO’d. But, you must first place all your current items in the Kangashghan Storage, or you’ll lose all of your current items.
