Have said it a million times and will never stop saying it.
Phannies whose first language is not English, please write as many posts and fanfics you want.
This includes phannies who aren’t completely fluent and or have poor grammar/spelling.
Please rant and engage and be as chaotic as the rest of us. Even if you cannot express it in English.
I personally have always found it so impressive and admirable when I learn a phannie mutual of mine has a first language other than English. Your ability to participate as much as you do while having to translate every video, every post, is something I am always so impressed by.
Please participate as much as you want in the phandom. Even if you only feel like posting in your first language, even if you know your grammar/spelling isn’t perfect, please share your thoughts and feelings!!!
#every time I see a phannie mutual every so often reblog a post in their first language or leave in the tags something not in English#I am never not amazed#I can’t imagine frequently engaging in media and fandom where everything is in not your first language#and I’ve seen so many of y’all apologizing lately whether in fics or posts because your grammar/spelling might not be perfect because#english is not your first language#and I’m always like we should be apologizing to you for having to go through the process translating and whatnot#as you can guess I don’t have anything even near a second language so idk how it works for people who speak English fluently and it also#isn’t their first language#but I just think it’s so cool how phannies still participate despite a language barrier#tldr: if English is not your first language please never apologize for poor grammar or spelling or for posting in your first language#rae’s rambles#dan and phil#phan

Occasionally I contemplate learning another language. Then I consider that I rarely speak aloud in English; do I really need to self-isolate in Mandarin, too?
#this is why despite having a vast interest in languages#and wanting to learn four other tongues#i stick to the english and some-spanish and little-french i know#because i don't need more reminders#that the world is vast and varied and yet so solitary#and that i am not likeable even when speaking fluently#this is the worst ted talk#“and that's how i did nothing and continue to do nothing!”

If I had a nickel for every time I helped a Japanese client at my job, and in helping revealed that I speak [some, limited] Japanese, and in doing so their entire demeanor changed and they began to smile and gesture excitedly as we had a [relatively short] conversation in Japanese, I'd have two nickels.
Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice.
#anyway if you recognize that the person you're speaking to does not speak English as a first language#and you know the language they do speak fluently#personally I recommend giving it a try to switch to their more comfortable language#it very visibly made their day to encounter someone who could speak Japanese with them#and I think it's nice to give someone the oppurtunity to not be at an inherent disadvantage in a conversation for once#both of these people told me no one here speaks Japanese with them#not even their family#and sometimes it makes them want to go back to Japan and never come back here#how miserable to be stuck somewhere that no one makes an effort to let you articulate in the way you're most comfortabke#but then I have a lifetime of watching that from my dad#who the only people who ever made the effort to communicate with him and his deafness on a level he's most comfortable#are his immediate family#no one else bothers even though they know he's deaf

((cw blood, reference to eating a person))
(OC) More Shiba drawings, but these are actually recent! This time I will share a bit about Shiba. A non-goat creature from the Nether (She is a Minecraft OC ww) who now walks with society. She can be briefly described as strange in any angle ww
#oc art#my art#Shiba uses any pronouns btw (they cant be bothered😭😭) You can use them interchangeably#He has emotions but they dont come out as outwardly or as what he intends it to be so it often comes off as him not caring ww HE DOES#hes just built differently so while he mimics human emotion to his best ability it comes off as stiff#though displayed here are some exceptions. this is because the emotions I portrayed were randomly chosen ww#She is a really simply OC story and personality wise really yet a lot can be said about the nuances of it#Thus why Ive been having fun drawing her as of lately. I cherish her simplicity yet the nuances of how her character comes off#I'd say she is a good personification of struggling to fit in with what is considered “normal” behavior ww#Their behavior can come off as ill-intended but at core they just work differently to other people and have different needs so i love shuba#albeit a bit extremely because they are a whole different species but it is also sort of the comedy of the character#aka HOW DO I EXPLAIN BEING BUILT DIFFERENTLY TO PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT BUILT DIFFERENTLY: the oc#(lighthearted)#OH YEAH IM AWARE “i will stay hiding the mouth” is not gramatically correct. shiba does not speak english fluently ww

Summer changes
Hi there!
It's summer (wow!) which means i'm not studying. But this doesn't mean i'll develop my game more often because i want to rest like a normal person.
Before the release of 1st interim i spent every day developing to release it as soon as possible. Now i'll rest more but try to maintain a frequency of one post per week.
I also thought i'll learn javascript to create a web-site for my game and multiplayer based on it. But now i realize more likely i'll just rest: walk outside and play games (maybe even read books!).
Have a nice summer and good luck!
#... and also i'll procrastinate...#...a lot...#changes#small changes#rest too#otherwise you can burn out#how are you?#i'm good#now i'll watch youtube#then i'll start passing irredeamable#then i'll wash face and clean teeths#then i'll just sleep#while writing this post i realized the chinese keyboard i installed to test chinese entry field interferes too much#and yes i'm translating some phrases into english using google translator#i think i know english quite well#but not enought to speak it fluently#i'm sorry...

okay so various headcanon rambling here quick about Zana cause she's my kiddo and I love her
I've been playing with the idea of her being bilingual for a while but couldn't quite decide on like, what that second language's irl equivalent would be? like Ishgard and French, I couldn't decide what language would work well for Ala Mhigo imo but I think for the time being I'll settle on Turkish, as suggested by my husband
that being said I've been recently reminded that the Echo just -- translates language for you??? and Zana suddenly gets the Echo in post ShB so what a TRIP that has to be
I don't even know which language it would translate into for her?? both, randomly, dependent on how she's thinking that day?? kid is gonna be going through it fr lmao
#like I'm not even bilingual - well now fluently - but will still randomly and on accident say an entire sentence in Spanish out loud#and then have to translate back to myself to remember what the fuck I just said#and my sister will randomly speak Spanish around the house and I would never be able to translate what the fuck she just said#if I was actually thinking about it#but we'll carry on a convo between Spanish and English for a few minutes before I notice sometimes#I can only imagine how much weirder that gets when it's suddenly being translated in your head for you#language is so weird#ffxiv#ff14#tagging these rambles cause I wouldn't mind some headcanon sharing aha#love hearing other thoughts from yall

I love languages but they can be so isolating too sometimes
#need to vent a bit I just received a bank letter from the last country I lived in#and it kinda hit me how even when learning that language for 6 years I wasn't good enough to speak it fluently#I would never be good enough#and every time I had to start by saying “sorry my language might not be good”#and I think in the end it kind of broke something in me#in past +10 years I lived in multiple countries and I put a lot of effort to speak the language as fast as I could#and I loved learning them and I'm glad I had a chance to live in those places#but damn was it lonely too#one of the things about being from a small insignificant country is that you're always the one who needs to adapt and change#sometimes people would be patient with me and speak slowly or offer to speak in english and I would be so grateful for that#most of the times it was just me sitting in a group at school/at work/at a friend gathering trying to catch the native language#and feeling extremely left out#it did push me to learn the language much quicker tho#and I've been feeling guilty too because those were amazing oportunities and other people have it worse#but maybe two things can be true at the same time#anyway I wrote back a reply to the bank after doublechecking 15 times the grammar I think it should be okay

Hazbin hotel is dubbed in other languages too, it’s not an ESL issue(from someone who is ESL). Anons just trying to be a jerk. Hang in there Clari
aw hehe thank you for letting me know this anon <33 you’re a sweetie!! i can see where that anon was coming from, definitely, but like i said, when we’re discussing media literacy we’re of course not talking about someone who understandably misconstrues something due to a language barrier or very poor translators. that isn’t at all a media literacy issue, nor is it the viewer’s fault, and a misunderstanding like that says nothing about that person’s literacy! <3
#slightly confused on how the subtitles would be misleading tho because shouldn't they be translating the words???#like shouldn't altruist have been translated to something like selfless or self-sacrifice or philanthropist or humanitarian etc???#it's obviously NOT on the viewer for misunderstanding if this were the case#it's a criticism of how poorly the translation was done#and sparks a different conversation about literacy entirely centered around the translator#but anyway! <3 i love u thank u for letting me know this as well#i only speak english fluently so i can't like confirm any of these things on my own#i hope your weekend has been going well anon bb!!!#stay safe and pls drink water <3#inky.bb#clari gets mail

Here’s how to tell if a language is easy to learn
None of them are easy
They’re all stupid and terrible and will kick you in the nuts
That being said
Languages similar to ones you already speak
Languages you have a lot of motivation to learn
Languages that have a lot of resources and media to watch and/or listen to and/or read
So, if you’re reading this with relative ease (aka you speak English fluently) probably French or Spanish
Do whatever you want though idk
Don’t just choose a language based on how easy it is
Unless that’s what it takes to keep you motivated idk
Go learn Frisian or something
