ninjamuffin newgrounds post!
tl;dr
fuck ads!! use adblocker whenever you can!!
the crew tries to make fnf as ad-free as possible, not just the game but where you download it- it's why it's on itch/newgrounds and not anywhere that offers ad revenue
that being said, fnf mobile will likely have a free version which... will have ads. they will try not to make the ads too obnoxious
(there will be an ad-free paid version too!)
extra note from me, not the post: if you're an android user you totally shouldn't use youtube revanced and purpletv or anything for mobile youtube and twitch adblockers. it would be such a hindrance to the advertisers. ha ha
full post copied below ⬇️
greetings and merry xmas newgrounds
on my brain for a very long time has been advertisements. Something about ads that stick in my brain ever since I came across this little thing from Lichess.
Tumblr media
In due time, unfortunately this post will become a bit hypocritical, as we will eventually publish FNF onto mobile, and that will very likely have a free ad supported version. Hopefully that doesn't undermine my thoughts too much, however FNF is more than just me and my brain! Not everything I say goes in terms of FNF decisions! So with all that being said, let me begin shouting about everything I hate about ads.
I use adblocker on everything, and you should too. UBlock Origin has been my reliable go to. Online ads are especially an insidious breed. I'll try not to be some tinfoil hat, but I do often wonder what the internet would look like if the online ad model *wasn't* fruitful back in the early days of the internet. Would Facebook, Google, etc. have an arms race to the bottom to get infinite amounts of data on every single person ever? Would social media algorithms optimize for a different experience other than *spend as much time as possible on our site*? Ads have existed before Youtube, Google, internet though. They exist on TV, on subways and buses, on radio, in newspapers. I think for the most part my deep hatred of ads is for online kind, I do think there can be "irl" ads that I find very unpleasant. Going on a subway or sitting at a bus stop, I think people deserve more dignity from their city public transit than to have something sold to them! I don't think an ad free life should be only reserved for those who can pay for spotify premium, youtube red, etc. I think everyone should be entitled to that DIGNITY.
X (the everything app, formerly Twitter ) has a Premium subscription that costs 10$/month (CAD), and they will only give you *half* the ads in your feed. How generous of them. I will be dramatic, and say that I look at ads with disgust. I hope to think I'm somewhat justified, as most ads look like dogshit, and are pretty worthless.
For a very long time (and currently, as of writing/posting) FNF has been entirely ad free. We did stand up to putting it on other web portals that offer ads and ad payments/rev share, because we do somewhat want to be part of the change we'd like to see in the world. We want to believe in a world where someone can put out a free game on itch/newgrounds, and have the development be supported purely off donations (which FNF was supported by that in the early days / first 6 months of development!). We definitely could have made much MUCH more money if we put FNF on websites that offer ad rev share, but we didn't, and I hope that doesn't fall on deaf ears.
However we do promote our own things from within the game, Kickstarter, merch, etc. I suppose I'm less upset or even thinking about that, I think there's a big difference if we had a lil Kickstarter trailer in-game that played, opposed to having an in-game advertisement for some fuckass mobile game or some cosmetics or somethin. We specifically are still curating what we are putting in the game with our lil links to merch, kickstarter, etc.
We also provide the soundtrack on Spotify / streaming services, which do indeed get money from ads. I think I'm so detatched from Spotify ads and being angry at them, since I've been spotify premium user even at the brokest poorest in my life... i need them album downloads!!! I do think that's an aspect where there is an adfree alternative, which is Bandcmap, where you can listen to the FNF OST as much as you want, and if you pay some coin, you can download it in high quality!
My thoughts on FNF mobile with ads is that they will make me very unhappy and deeply sad. I do sincerely apologize to those of you who would be unable to play FNF on anything other than a mobile device, and aren't able to get the full mobile version, so you become punished with ads. We do hope to not be obnoxious with mobile ads. If you have a computer, even a shitty busted one that runs slow, I personally hope you end up compiling the mobile version yourself to get past ads. The thought of that lets me rest easier just a little bit. The FNF will be proudly open source forever.
There will also be a paid version of FNF mobile, that will have no ads. Pay for that one if you please.

Imperial Grace FAQ
When will the game be out?
Hopefully, early 2025, we will communicate an official date when we have more visibility. At the moment (16/08/2024) the full script is written, but we are still missing some key arts (all the CG, 5 sprites, and some MC customization), and a portion of the script still needs to be properly edited and translated.
I want to smooch the Master of Murmurs 🙏
Thanks to our generous backers, the MM will get a proper romance DLC after the game release, so you just have to be patient <3
I want to smooch another character 🙏
Unfortunately, it’s not possible; we do not have the time and resources, but that’s why fanfic and fanart exist, and they are always welcomed. 😉 (You can see more about our fan content policy.)
Is there any DLC plan for the game?
On top of the MM romance DLC, we plan on doing a marriage DLC (with a standalone storyline for each love interest) and a short prequel telling the story of Mellissandre of Terinfel. Both have been funded on Kickstarter, but I have no dates to give you yet.
How much the game will cost?
The final price is not completely set yet, but it will be somewhere between 20€ and 30€. 💸 After careful thought, I also decided I will do proper regional pricing. 🎉 I was dubious because I know a lot of people are abusing the system with VPN but I don't want to punish the people who actually benefit from it. 💖
On which platform will the game be available?
The game will be available on Steam, GOG, and Itchi.io; at the moment, we are working hard to make it completely Steamdeck compatible! At the moment, a switch port is not possible but not excluded; if the game does well enough, we might be able to get a special partnership for this.
A mobile port is not on the pipe either, as it would require a full UI overhaul and regular updates to comply with stores, and our economic model is not appropriate for the mobile market.
In which language will the game be available?
The game will be available in French and English on release day. At the moment, we do not have the budget to translate the full game into another language but we are looking for solutions to allow the most people possible to enjoy the game.
Where can I follow you?
The most reliable platform for news is Discord as I am very active on it. We also have a mailing list (with exclusive gifts upon joining!) and a twitter account.
What is the game rating?
The game doesn’t have official ratings (that cost money), but considering the mature themes in it, I would say 17+. Imperial Grace includes verbal (but not visual) descriptions of violence and consensual sex.
The game, especially through the petitions, also alludes to topics that may be sensitive, such as arranged marriage or suicide. The list of full trigger warnings is available on steam (beware spoilers). It might be subject to change depending on the petitions we include or not in the final game, I want to make sure that every sensitive topic is treated with care and really brings something to the story or denounces a social problem close to our hearts.
Sexy time, you say? 👀
The game features plenty of hot kisses and two optional sex scenes; they can be stopped (in game choices) and not happen at all or censored (fade to black). The text is explicit (anatomical parts are mentioned; it’s not all metaphor, but there is no vulgar words either.), and some suggestive but not pornographic images illustrate them. In other words, even the uncensored version of the sexy time will be safe enough to be streamed on Twitch but more steamy than what we usually find in otome games!
Is the MC customizable?
MC physical appearance is customizable to some extent: you can choose her skin color, her hairstyle, her eye colors (heterochromia possible!), and minor details like moles. The skin color options are not just recolors; the features are actually slightly different to reflect different ethnicities and bring more variety.
All customisation will be reflected in CG, except hairstyle (you can learn the difference between hairstyle and hair type on this post.)
Tumblr media
What do you mean by “meaningful choices”?
Imperial Grace has over 200 choices during the main storyline; contrary to traditional Japanese otome game where there is usually a “good” and “bad” option for each choice leading to the best/good/bad ending, we have a more Dragon Age-like approach where most of the options are valid just entails different consequences to shape a more custom epilogue with tons of little variation to reflect your decision as Empress. (And there is instant game overs when you take very very bad decision :p)
You have more questions? Our ask box is always open! <3

I was suddenly hit with a burst of inspiration for this one. Like, my original idea was maybe three sentences long and then I looked into how to remove grass stains before modern laundry. That was a surprisingly interesting rabbit hole to go down.
@owl-bones
First, Previous, & Next Day
Bad Sansuary II: Horror - Stained
Word Count: 1,020
In the morning, Maul busied himself with general chores around the camp, like replenishing the firewood supply and checking the traps he'd set up a couple days ago for small game. Your mobility was still pretty limited, so you mostly stayed put, doing smaller but still important tasks like cutting up kindling. You also offered to monitor the fire when Maul decided to make a stew for later.
There had been a bit of tension in the air when you woke up that morning. With nearly dying by your teammate's hand and then having a heart to heart chat afterwards, you weren't really sure if you should acknowledge what had happened. Maul seemed equally as clueless, but talking had never seemed to be his strong point since you met him. There wasn't anything more to discuss anyways since neither of you had any answers to the obvious questions and weren't keen to go find them either.
Between Maul's trips of carrying firewood and stacking it near the fire pit, you requested a basin of water with the intention to do some cleaning. He was more than happy to help and soon brought you a bucket of water from a nearby stream.
You had noticed a grass stain on the back of your shirt when you got up, likely from getting pinned to the ground last night, and had decided to try getting it out. Now, you weren't an expert on stain removal, but you were confident that with a bit of elbow grease, you would get it out in no time.
How wrong you were. Not only had the stain already set into the fabric, but also no amount of scrubbing could remove it. You tried soap, you tried beating the stain with a stick, and you tried rubbing the fabric against a coarse stone. The trouble was you had limited supplies in the wilderness. Your mother probably would have known what to do in a heartbeat, but you really only knew what to do for blood and basic grime.
Maul returned with a pot of water and set it near the fire to boil. After checking how the stew was coming along, he glanced over at you curiously. "...havin' some trouble?" he asked.
You sighed and dropped the shirt into the bucket. "I guess, I now know why my mom would get upset when I came home with grass stains."
The giant of a skeleton let out a soft chuckle, eyeing the shirt with an amused glimmer in his eyelight. "there's a better way than what you're doin'."
"Oh? Do enlighten me then," you grumbled, crossing your arms with a huff.
He held up a clawed phalanx and went to go retrieve something from the supplies cache. When he returned with a metal banded cask, you raised an eyebrow. What could he possibly know about getting out stains? The whole time you had known him, he hadn't seemed to care if his clothing was stained and, beyond maintaining his armour, you had never seen him do anything remotely similar to laundry.
He poured out the water you had been using, leaving the shirt in the bottom of the pail. As you watched, he opened the cask and poured just enough of the surprisingly clear liquid to cover the stain. Your nose twitched as you caught the distinct scent of strong alcohol.
"let it soak for a while," Maul said as he closed the cask.
"You think that will actually work? Where did you even get spirits that strong?" You wrinkled your snout before adding, "Even if it does get the stain out, the whole garment will stink of alcohol."
He shrugged and motioned to the pot of water. " 's only to get the stain out. clean it again afterwards." He glanced down at the small cask and then shrugged, "bought it last time i was in the undercity."
Your mouth dropped open in shock. "Wait, you've been to The Undercity? And got out without being robbed or murdered?"
His permanent grin widened and he motioned to the crack in his skull. "not many are foolish enough to bother someone like me. i usually make the trip once or twice a year to buy stuff ya can't get anywhere else."
"I guess that makes sense." You eyed his sharp claws and chuckled. "With all the gang violence that goes on, I don't think I would last a second if I went there. I'd probably offend someone and get shanked, if I didn't get kidnapped by one of the local dons for being illegally adorable that is..."
Maul let out a sudden bark of laughter. It actually startled you for a second since he wasn't normally a loud person. He nearly had to brace his hands on his knees to keep from losing his balance.
"...boss would hate that," he managed to say between lingering chuckles. " 'specially cause it's true..."
You felt your cheeks grow unnaturally warm and quickly looked away to hide your blush. Since when was he so smooth with his words? You hadn't been expecting him to find your admittedly awful joke funny, as he usually only responded to your attempts at humour with a grunt or a huff.
"True, he'd tear the whole city apart if someone did that," you murmured.
"hey."
You turned to look at Maul again.
"promise ya won't tell either reven or dirk about this," he said quietly, motioning to the metal banded cask he was holding. "i mostly keep it for sterilizing bandages and they might steal it if they find out."
You pressed your paw against your chest and nodded. "I promise I won't breathe a word of it to them. They can find their own liquor to drown their sorrows in."
He gave you a stiff nod and went to put the cask away, leaving you wondering how he had figured out to use that specific alcohol for removing stains. There seemed to be a lot about him that didn't make sense, but it was fun to think about. Maybe you would ask him about his travels sometime.

reread your jealous!jack excerpt again and i have Thoughts.
That fuckass podcast host had been flirting with Nico. <- OOF! STRAIGHT TO JAIL! i know jack is clenching his jaw
A fourth rewatch of a forty-five minute long youtube clip in the same evening is probably a bit much, but neither Quinn nor Luke are currently around to witness this, so Jack does what he currently do with his limited mobility: seethe. <- i’m just imagining ellen, hearing the same podcast four times and deciding to ignore whatever her son is up to rn. small mercies.
Timo deadass looked into the camera at that exact moment. <- timo knows jack’s eye is going to start twitching
Nico had texted him earlier today that he was going to push their usual post-game facetime by a little bit <- AND FOR OLLIE? i know jack is planning something rn.
watched with an almost grim satisfaction as Nico hastened to walk that back. Good. <- cunty jack i will always love you
“and I'm proud of the boys for pulling it together for this win,"(…)"It's a team effort," Nico demures. "I may be the captain but it's a team sport. Everyone's hard work counts, even for those that can't physically make it onto the ice." <- he loves his boys so much😭 making me emotional on this fine friday morning?? jail.
"Jack gives the best hugs, that's for sure," Nico says warmly. "I'll have to wait 'till next season, but I'll be looking forward to them again. <- we all know he is not waiting until next season for that hug😈
He exits the livestream, switches out of his burner account, and goes right back to join in again as jackhughes <- the devs have a sign that says _ amount of days since last unhinged nicojack action and the 0 might as well be permanent
and Jack grins snarkily to himself as Oliver's smile drops a milimetr and his eyebrows go up in surprise. <- cunty jack cunty jack cunty jack cunty jack🥰
“Is that what I'm seeing? You guys aren't trolling me, right?" <- certified facebook mom does not know his bf joined the stream!
(a very sappy shot of him lounging on the ground playing with a tiny rescue puppy they'd done photoshoots with) <- they are so in love😭😭😭 i miss them so much!!!!!!
Jack, watching like a hawk on his iPad, doesn't miss a second of it, and there's a part of him that wonders if he's a bad guy for relishing in the complete and utter derailment of the livestream. <- “cunty possessive jack” the nation chants
to see the complete outpour of positive comments and faith in him. <- JACK😭 we all love and miss you so much!! i know he’s working his hardest right now
That was productive. <- oh my god. that was perfect. you write him so so well. cunty jack forever in my heart
I know you're playing dumb but I am not getting between the two of you weirdos. <- timo, probably: why am i always at the scene of the crime😭 get me out of here😭 (he loves his friends dearly but he did not sign up for this)
He'll get exactly what Nico offers to him, and not a section more. Because unlike Jack, he doesn't belong in the Devils' locker room, isn't an integral part of the team as a whole, isn't the most important person in Nico's life. <- MOST FAVOURITE DYNAMIC MYL YOU ARE AN ICON LIKE ALWAYSSSSS
i just love how you write jealous jack and jealous nico. nico’s all silent possessiveness (because he the youngest child) and jack’s is just so loud and obvious (middle child). perfect, no notes!
this is a message that keeps on making my day, I hope you know this. I've re-read it so many times at this point now and I'm so happy you enjoyed that quick fic! 🥹
(and now that the devils are in playoffs and Jack's still out and Nico is captaining the team all by his lonesome (jk, jk) what will Jack do next?? who else dares to put a hand on his man??) 👀

Okay I actually just recently rewatched RTGame's playthrough of American Arcadia, which is a story based game about a guy living a Truman Show-esque life in 2023, with a few differences in concept. Mainly that the whole town doesn't know they're in a tv show, everybody living there still thinks it's the 70's, and you can come from the outside to visit it as a tourist location (DON'T break the fourth wall)- kind of a mashup between Walt Disney's original EPCOT idea and the Truman Show.
The people in the town of Arcadia are broadcast on their own individual twitch streams, and ones who get no views are eventually given a Retirement Package and removed from the show. The main guy we follow in the town is named Trevor, and his best friend at work gets the retirement package. The job itself is dull, and Trevor leads a boring lonely life, so it's sad when his friend leaves. But when he's alone he can suddenly hear music playing that says "don't be a fool..." and sees signs edited to tell him "YOUR FRIEND IS DEAD" and stuff. Eventually Trevor also gets the retirement package, but he gets a call from an edited voice calling themselves "Kovacs" (named after the head scientist in the creation of Arcadia, also a guy who had a tv show in the 50s/60s, so Trevor also knows who he is). Kovacs tells him not to go for the vacation, that it's dangerous, he needs to leave town, it's all a lie! So he runs away from his boss, and security, and starts following everything Kovacs tells him to say.
The game cuts to a first person view and we now play as Angela, an employee in the corporate offices of the company that runs Arcadia, who is the one going by the alias of Kovacs. She is in contact with a group of six people who escaped Arcadia decades ago - the only ones to ever do so. They advise her on what to do while her manager is always getting more and more suspicious that she's doing something against the rules.
As the story progresses, we get introduced as well to the character that's like, the great granddaughter of Arcadia's Walt Disney or something. She's the face of all the channels they run. The big one in charge. I forget her name so I'll call her Miss Disney, I guess.
Trevor gets very close to escaping early on, but it becomes clear that every Arcadia resident comes equipped with either some kind of brainwashing or an implanted chip that makes them able to hear a specific frequency of noise that's played from large speakers at any possible exit, at every highway leaving town, and it's an unbearable noise that makes you unable to move or do anything because it hurts really badly. This is called The Jingle. Visiting tourists can't hear it. This is when Trevor realizes how trapped he is, and fully commits to working with Angela to get out.
It's a really fun and engaging story. Angela is helping him get out but she's not all-knowing, she calls the big six group a lot and they give her advice. At one point the group gets raided by the police and they have to mobilize, but they call her from the car, only cutting contact when different police pull them over for speeding. Meanwhile, Trevor finds an old abandoned Pre-Arcadia town, where he is able to undergo a ten hour brainwashing process that removes The Jingle from his brain! But he still can't actually find a way out. It turns out Arcadia is in a giant dome.
The story climaxes when he goes back to Arcadia headquarters, confronts Miss Disney, and presses a big button that's supposed to unlock the dome. It doesn't actually, but it opens up a discussion. It turns out Miss Disney is one of those six people who escaped - she's not actually the real heir, the lineage died off long ago. But she escaped, faced reality, and wanted to go back to Arcadia, so she volunteered to pretend to be a long lost great granddaughter, and reassimilated herself into Arcadia.
She then reveals that this entire plot that Trevor had to unravel was part of a new spinoff series, Escape From Arcadia! She shows clips from Trevor's escape, and there's branding, a whole trailer. A popular jock character will get a crack at it next week.
She tells Trevor, I hated it on the outside. It's so cruel and the adjustment to jumping 50 years forward is too much. He should stay in Arcadia. But he chooses no, and then it cuts to like a year later and he's happy living on his own, with Angela, and that's that.
But something about the big final reveal bugs me.
Why stage a police raid if you're not getting raided? Why did she put so much effort into all that? I don't doubt that Miss Disney was one of the six that escaped but I didn't understand her motivation for some things in the end. The reveal of "Escape From Arcadia" felt more like a coverup than something she'd actually been planning, because they were using deadly force the entire time Trevor was trying to escape. She assures - to the audience watching - that he was never in real harm's way. But the guns, the dogs, the electric shocks and more, cast so much doubt in my mind that the escape was intentional. Angela wasn't in on it, she really was an individual employee who thought she was conspiring against her employer.
It feels like just rearranging a couple things would make the end align better for me. Like there's so much hidden information, even when Trevor is looking it in the eye the people in charge are denying it until the very end. At the same time, I don't think the company should be so all-powerful that the whole story was according to plan, either! Multiple times they capture Trevor and try to make him sign an NDA, try to offer him a high quality retirement for not speaking up, and then use deadly force when he says no. And then they turn around and we're supposed to believe they wanted Trevor to escape,,, like the narrative of the story says that's what happened, no tricks this time!
I like the idea of Miss Disney being one of the escaped six, I don't mind her being manipulative or whatever. But I think it would've landed better if the spin-off show was a coverup, not a planned all along thing. I also don't get all the charades they played, because some of them ended up being pointless. Man, there was one more thing I was gonna say in this post to tie it all together, but I wrote so much I forgot what it was. Uhhh. If you have seen or played the game let me know your thoughts.

I wonder how the "crediting L-5 with rights in the description" thing is supposed to go when streaming on Twitch seeing as how Twitch doesn't seem to have a description area when setting up a stream (asking since I may plan to stream LMJ once I can either get it on mobile or get an actual Switch that can use a capture card)
Hi! Disclaimer again: I have no idea about how laws work. I'd say that, if there's no description, as long as you put a border or a logo or something so that it is clear that you're a fan playing a game you own, that'd be good.
This question made me recall the stream guidelines to the Vision events. Here's the link to the english version: https://www.level5.co.jp/vision2023-2/en/mirror-guideline/
Here's one of the guideline images if someone cannot be bothered to click through: (1 0 days since stealing official imaginery off the webs)
Tumblr media
And this guideline for the Vision is more stric than today's thing, even saying only commentary over the direct stream was forbidden. This new thing allows for gameplays with commentary.
If you have a standard streaming set up, with a border or background, and/or maybe you or a chat in a corner, I'd say you're clear. And then after the stream if you upload/keep the video, I take it that there's a description available then?
The main purpose of the thing(tm) is to differenciate fan stuff from official stuff. @cherub014 also posted some great tags in the previous ask, saying that, with the emphasis in the spoilers, this feels like they expect NWOS to bring a lot of new people in/old fans backs and they will want them to buy the mobile games. And thinking it a bit, it does feel like it's because they want the future new people to not be confused and go to the official sources directly.
So the problem would be if your stream could be mistaked for an official thing, or if someone could cut your stream to make it seem like it was an official thing. It that's clear, you're good!

Big changes on the horizon! DotS updates and more!
Happy New Year!! With a new year in front of us, there's new opportunities awaiting us all! This year I've decided to finally go for it, and chase a dream I've been running away from for years!
I'm finally going to launch a YouTube channel sometime this year alongside dusting off my poor old Twitch account! Right now I've got a lot to prep, but this is something I've been wanting to do for a very long time, and never thought myself prepared or good enough for it. Well, last year was all about taking big leaps and just gunning for it, so that's exactly what I'm doing
The channel will (unsurprisingly) be about games, and bringing a new method of reviewing games based on multiple factors. Throughout the next few months, I'll actually be reaching out to gaming communities and asking you all various questions to help me identify different types of gamers! I'm creating a gamer spectrum and multiple profiles to help gamers find their matches.
No more confusing numbers and biased reviews! Finally asking the most important question at the core of every game: is it fun? Visuals, style, narrative (or the lack there of) can be easily cast aside if the core of the game is just fun! That's what a game should always be at base 💖
It's a huge ambition, aiming to shake up the reviewing world, but it's something I'm passionate about! I hope it'll take off, and inspire more people to give the system a shot. I don't plan to do it forever, and eventually move on to new things or just focusing on let's-plays (which I intend to do in addition to reviews, clips from Twitch streams and the like).
This is basically gonna be my day job that I'll juggle alongside my comic, and since I won't be under time constraints or physically exhausted, it shouldn't affect my comic any!
So how's DotS:MMM going to look like going forward?
My posting schedule for DotS:MMM is going to likely be 1 page a month for the time being until I can really make headway on pages! Frankly I've been stuck on one page in particular, since I've needed to remake it entirely, and it's been bugging me for months. I believe I've gotten something down finally, so with the Holidays finally behind us, I should finally have a bit more time to work on pages. My mobile tablet setup helps so much with my art away from my computer!!
My drawing energy has been really low in past months since it was so busy, but I'm getting the itch again as I'm shaking off the holiday glaze! You guys will know I'm back in action when a page suddenly appears, hehehee!
In conclusion—
The comic won't stop anytime soon, just pages are gonna be slow for a while! I have loads of graphics to make for my new channel, and I'm also making a Live2D model to accompany. My reasons for this is simply that I don't like putting my real face on the internet, and prefer my privacy, so I'm creating a cartoon avatar that represents me— much like Saberspark has, with still images in various poses, and of course an actual live model to represent my face on both videos and livestreaming. It's a lot to learn and program, so I've got a bunch of work ahead of me!
I'll do my best to involve you guys in the future of this channel, asking questions and what you all think I should name things for the channel!! You all have been with me for so long, it only feels right, y'know?

how do i become a fan of the mariners
^ still coping with blaseball end. went to a couple games as a kid but all i remember is a player named raul
man baseball has helped me SO much with losing blaseball so i get that. start with the Dorktown Mariners doc, if you haven’t already! it’s on YouTube. it’s a history of the Mariners (and Seattle baseball in general) up to about 2019, so that’ll give you a good overview of the team (and how wild it is that the team even exists in the first place)
if you want to get to know the current team, there’s an excellent Mariners blog called Lookout Landing, and every season before Spring Training starts they do a series called 40 in 40 where they write 40 articles, one for each of the players on the Mariners 40-man roster. a handful of the players detailed here aren’t on the current 40-man (Ty Adcock and Taylor Trammell wound up on waivers and were picked up by other teams, Prelander Berroa, Blake Hunt, and Zach DeLoach were traded, and Matt Brash and Jackson Kowar both needed surgery and won’t be back until next season) but it’ll give you a fairly good overview of who’s here, particularly our main guys on the 26-man roster (so the guys who are active with the big league club)
Lookout Landing is just really great reading, in general - every article is truly well-written, from deep-dives into players and stats to write-ups on literally every single game the Mariners play. god, i gotta see if i can dig up my favorite article, gimme a sec…. ah! found it. it’s from a random July game, in a season where the Mariners would wind up finally, FINALLY making the playoffs for the first time in 21 years (thanks in large part to Cal Raleigh, who is featured prominently in the article, though of course we couldn’t know that at the time), and the end of it just… gets me every time.
speaking of Cal Raleigh, i would be remiss in not mentioning the Truth Meeting article - this all happened when Cal (and Logan Gilbert, one of the Mariners starting pitchers) were in the minors together, but it’s really good insight into the type of guy Cal is and the relationship he has with Logan (and other pitchers in general - he’s become such a leader with both the pitching staff AND the team as a whole and it’s been very cool to watch)
after that, if you wanna watch games, 🏴‍☠️ is gonna be your cheapest (aka free) options. i unfortunately don’t have a ton of insight into that front but i do know that options are out there. otherwise, if you’re in-market the Mariners are on Root Sports (which is carried by Comcast and Fubo, among others) and if you’re out-of-market you can watch them on MLB TV. both options have subscription fees, which can unfortunately be kinda pricey. if you’re a T-Mobile customer you can get a free MLB TV subscription, but it’s only available at the start of the season, so unfortunately it’s passed for this year. there’s also radio, which is free but i’m not 100% sure if you need to be local? (i’m assuming you’re probably local if you’re looking to get into the Ms + you mentioned Raul who i’m assuming is probably Raul Ibanez, but there’s lots of out-of-town Ms fans too so!) there’s an online option and also an app as well!
some other random Ms content:
Felix Hernandez’s perfect game is on YouTube
Tayler Saucedo (one of our relief pitchers) streams on Twitch - he’s more active during the offseason, obviously, but recently he’s been on the IL (has a minor knee injury and should be back pretty soon) and has been occasionally streaming DURING the games which has been pretty funny (he went viral on Mariners Twitter the other day for his reaction when we had a very exciting comeback win against the Yankees). he’s also a local guy who grew up an Ms fan so it’s been very cool to have him around!
Jen Mueller, one of the Mariners on-field reporters, has a YouTube series called “I Cook, You Measure” where she cooks and chats with various Seattle athletes, including some of the Mariners. so far she’s done episodes with Cal Raleigh, Logan Gilbert, Tayler Saucedo, Bryce Miller, Luis Castillo, and Bryan Woo, as well as former Mariners Mike Cameron and Tom Murphy (Tom was on the team when the episode was filmed but went to the Giants this season). there’s also the Bonus Bites which are just outtakes from the eps that are also really worth watching, there’s some fun stories in there!
okay uhhhh this is way longer than i anticipated it being so i’ll stop here but if you have any other questions lemme know! also if you ARE local and have any questions about coming to a game, the stadium, etc let me know as well, i basically live at T-Mobile Park during baseball season so i’ve got plenty of tips 😅

Fic Prompts: Snippet Monday
A short scene that doesn't have a story to go with, and is therefore free to incorporate into just about whatever.
Viper
"-look, all I'm saying is we need a break!"
Damas paused to listen to the voices floating up from the elevator shaft. Ah. He'd been beginning to wonder when, exactly, the boys had been planning to turn in their report on the sandstorm evacuation. He stifled a smile and went back to watering the date palms nearest the window as he listened to them arguing.
"A break? Dax, just being here is a break!"
"...you've been out in the sun too long, pal. You seem to have forgotten the life-threatening nonsense these people keep putting us through!"
Jak's laugh grew louder as the elevator rose higher. "So? We have entire days where we don't have to go anywhere or do anything! And we get to go wherever we want! C'mon, Dax, you can't possibly tell me this place isn't like a vacation compared to Haven."
The elevator locked into place and Jak ambled out, looking perfectly at home amid the artificial streams. He lifted a hand in irreverent greeting when he spotted Damas, and made his way across the stepping stones. And if he seemed to be making a game of skipping every other stone, well, Damas wouldn't tell anyone.
"All scouts accounted for!" Jak announced cheerfully as he landed on the last stone, right at the foot of the dais. "Oh hey, the Crawler's making some weird noises though. I think you should have Kleiver do some maintenance on it."
Damas raised a brow. "Hm. A mobile sandstorm shelter won't do us much good if it breaks down. I'll make a note of it."
He set down the pitcher he had been using to water the tree and made his way back to his throne, looking for one of the data recording devices he kept to hand.
"I don't have any other work for you at the moment. If you can find a way to amuse yourselves that doesn't involve violent destruction of private property, the rest of the afternoon is yours to spend as you wish."
Daxter snapped his fingers in a pretense of disappointment. "Darn, well, that rules out all your plans, doesn't it, Jak?"
"Swimming doesn't destroy private property," Jak suggested, bouncing his shoulder.
"Not during a storm," Damas cut in. "I don't want to hear that someone had to take a boat out there and haul you out of a rip current."
Jak was about to argue when he felt Daxter go rigid on his shoulder. Following Damas’s surprised gaze, he found his friend squinting around the room. His ears swiveled and rotated like satellites, as if trying to catch a specific sound.
"Dax? What's wrong?"
"Say, uh, Jak?" Daxter piped up nervously, "Anyone else hear hissing?"
Hissing? Jak frowned and scanned the room, wondering what his friend was hearing. As his eyes swept across the dais, something caught his attention. It wasn’t that noticeable, just the barest hint of motion. But when Jak reached for just a hint of dark eco, suffusing his sclera in darkness, it stood out as clear as lightning.
Instinct took over and Jak had a knife out of his boot before he could even process what he was seeing. In an instant he'd hurled the dagger at the throne, just missing Damas’s calf.
"Jak!" Damas snapped, "Watch it!"
With a pained squeal, something began to thrash beside his foot. Pinned to the leg of the throne by Jak's knife was a massive snake. A Dust Demon viper, slowly losing its camouflage as death throes sent it thrashing in pain.
Damas examined the creature impassively, then slammed down his boot, putting it out of its misery.
"I thought something felt different," he remarked, entirely too calmly. "Next time, aim for the head for a cleaner kill. There's no need to make it suffer."
Daxter’s fur stood on end like static electricity as he clung to Jak’s shoulder in an arch.
"How long was that there?!" he demanded, "Is this a regular problem for you?!"
Damas prodded the still twitching viper with the butt of his staff. "Hardly."
His eyes narrowed in thought, and lowered himself into a crouch to examine the animal. "This little one did not get here on its own power."
Jak was already thinking on the same track.
"Someone brought it here," he realized, and his face twisted into an angry, inhuman snarl.
He jumped up onto the dais to crouch beside Damas and glared at the offending creature.
"So...so what? This was an assassination attempt?"
"Hm. That is very likely," Damas agreed. He didn't seem particularly bothered.
Glancing up, he directed a smile at Jak and Daxter. "Very well done. I commend the both of you. This will not be forgotten."
Daxter perked up, glowing at the praise like he'd had a spotlight shone on him.
Jak missed the praise entirely. He was fully focused on the words assassination attempt. Who would try to kill Damas? And in such an underhanded way? If someone had a problem with the king, there was a perfectly good Arena to settle the dispute in!
Well. To be fair, Jak supposed that would be a fight the dissenter wouldn't walk away from. He wasn't even sure he could beat Damas in a fight. So what did that make this? Cowardice?
Jak hated it. It reminded him of the backstabbing he used to see among the prison guards under Praxis's reign.
Jak glowered at the dead snake, and jerked his knife out of it. He just missed Damas’s approving nod when he bent to clean the blade on his boot before sheathing it again. The snake lay sprawled in unnatural angles, no longer twitching. With dark eco rumbling in his chest like a warning growl, Jak reached down and picked the viper up by the tail.
"I'm gonna find out who did this," he vowed, looking Damas in the eye, "And they're gonna pay."
He started to stand, but a hand on his arm anchored him in place.
"Leave it," Damas commanded. He stood and jerked his chin towards the foot of the throne. "Let everyone who enters this chamber see it there."
"Why?" Jak furrowed his brow and stood to follow, viper dangling from his hand. "Won't that just show the assassin they should try something else?"
Damas settled into his throne with a scoff. "No no, think, Jak. What did I teach you about choosing battles?"
Jak blinked. Was this a test of some kind? He looked to Daxter, who only shrugged. Damas had that secretive glint in his eye, which meant it probably was a test. Jak closed his eyes and tried to think.
He's not facing this head-on, or at least not the way I would. Which means he's probably taking a more subtle approach. Jak, admittedly, was not very good at "subtle". He wracked his brains for an answer, looking between the snake, the throne, and the doors before realizing that Damas was watching his facial expressions intently.
Oh.
"You're...going to watch everyone's reactions? When people come in, right? If...if the assassin or an accomplice comes in, seeing the snake will send a message. Or...or it might spook them into giving something away?"
The answer lacked his usual brash confidence. Jak hoped the king wouldn't pick up on that, but at the same time he knew it was unlikely that he wouldn't. But he couldn't help a little trepidation! Damas clearly expected him to know the answer and he didn't want to get it wrong!
To his relief, Damas dipped his head and smiled proudly.
"Excellent! That is precisely what I intend to do -- so I can't have you running around the city to threaten people with a dead snake."
He gestured to his right meaningfully.
"And as you have no other tasks for the afternoon, I think this would be a good opportunity for you to hone your observation skills. After how quickly you two picked up on the viper's presence, I can think of no better choice to help me suss out our would-be killer."
This time Daxter wasn't the only one to light up and stand a little straighter in response to the commendation. Jak may not have been familiar with ranks and hierarchies, but he understood the gesture of trust Damas was extending to them. And he understood that being asked to stand by at the right hand of a warrior like Damas was no small thing. Damas was asking them to help him find an assassin in the ranks as though he hadn't the slightest doubt that they would be successful.
Jak squared his shoulders and nodded sharply. "We won't let you down," he said firmly.
Damas returned his nod with an almost fond smile. "I know."
Jak leaned on the pillar right of the throne and considered the viper thoughtfully before tossing it to land closer to Damas’s feet. Then, after perhaps a minute of silence, he asked,
"Can I have the fangs though?"
Damas let out a startled laugh. "The fangs?!"
"Yeah," Jak shrugged, suddenly sheepish. "It's- I have a- there's a thing. I need them."
Daxter translated with narrowed eyes. "He means his horrible, horrible, bone collection that he's been making jewelry out of."
Leaning back, Damas laughed again. "Then by all means." He smiled indulgently, gesturing, "Take the fangs! Just be careful of the venom."
"I will." Jak waved off the warning just a touch too nonchalantly. "How long do you think before people start showing up?"
Damas checked his data device. "Four meetings this afternoon, two more after evening meal. The next one is in approximately twenty minutes."
Daxter hopped down and settled into a more comfortable position on the dais steps. "Welp. Sounds like we're gonna be here a while. Jak, you brought snacks, right?"
"We could eat the snake if you're hungry enough," Jak teased.
Daxter made a disgusted sound and looked to Damas, pointing an accusing finger at Jak.
"Will you please do something about him?!"
"Don't eat the evidence, Jak," Damas snorted. "Go get some roasted crickets out of the kitchens if you're hungry. You have a few minutes."
"CRICKETS?!" Daxter shrieked. He clasped his paws to his head in horror. "You're an enabler! Jak! Don't listen to the man!"
Jak pushed off of the pillar and rolled his eyes at Daxter. "If you'll eat a decapod, you can eat a hexapod. Besides, they're good! Damas, you want me to bring you some?"
"Naturally."
Daxter groaned and pulled his ears down over his eyes. "Great. Lunatic and Lunatic Junior are sharing meal plans now. Goodbye, normal diet!"
Jak looked just a little too smug about being labeled "Lunatic Junior".

I've been putting off making this post for a while now, but I think it's time for me to talk about/shamelessly plug my youtube.
First of all, I know I don't have a consistent upload schedule and I've been working on the same projects for over a year, but I swear I will have something done by Saturday. Please be patient, it just needs to be dubbed. I want to try to have it dubbed by Thursday depending on how many people there are. But here's my youtube anyway for when that does happen.
If I can't get that done then I'll try to stream on twitch to make up for it. I'm still not very experienced with twitch (especially since twitch studio was discontinued and I now have to figure out OBS) so it probably won't be that entertaining but I'll try to stream a bit more soon. (I can't link it on mobile unfortunately because the link I have doesn't work
Also, regarding the voice acting thing. I only had like one person actually message me about it. It's still open but I kinda went into this knowing I was going to be doing the majority of it and that at most there would be one or two people if I'm lucky. I'll reblog my previous post again just in case.
And about the GD character roles because I only have the jsab characters, I'm working on that too. I'm probably going to do all the robtop levels and canon characters in the first google doc and then put everyone else (user levels/unofficial levers from either game) in a separate doc so everything will be organized. I do have at the very least somewhat of an idea of every robtop level but I'm still trying to get them all fully figured out, but I will do something with them soon, I swear.
That's all. Not sure what else to say so I'll leave it there.
(Also didn't know how to tag this)

Are gaming communities becoming less about play and more about monetisation?
In an age where entertainment and technology are developing at a neck-breaking pace, gaming communities have seen a metamorphosis that goes beyond conventional play. What was once a large leisure activity has developed into a vibrant hub of entertainment and business, posing fascinating queries about how these digital communities are changing. The entire foundation of gaming communities finds itself at a crossroads as the industry observes the integration of monetization tactics, from in-game purchases to the thriving sphere of esports and content production. In exploring the changing dynamics, we dive further into the topic of whether these communities are becoming less about the pure joy of play and more about the complex web of commercialization that now permeates virtual worlds.
Tumblr media
These days, microtransactions and on-game purchases are common in contemporary games, enabling users to purchase in-game cosmetics, virtual goods, or other upgrades. Both platform providers and game creators will benefit from these transactions. Older generations can now afford more expensive games on different digital distribution platforms and can afford to pay for in-game microtransactions or to support their favourite streamer or online celebrity, playing video games has become an increasingly important social activity for young people (Bankov 2019). Through the streamer, gamers would be more likely to purchase the in-game item due to how good it looks on the streamer’s interface so they get an idea of how it works. As an example, in a simple mobile game like, ‘Subway Surfers’, most of the characters require the user to spend the in-game currency to buy the characters. Most of the time people would not be pros at the game and would end up buying the in-game currency to buy the character. Even though it is a free game, players would spend extra money to purchase the extra things in the game.
There is a heated argument about how these trades affect what play is really about. While some contend that these transactions provide gamers a way to customize and enhance their gaming experience, others are worried that they might lead to an unfair playing field where those with larger wallets have a clear edge. The problem of commercialization in AAA games is one that both consumers and developers must consider equally as regardless of how well a game is designed, the financial influence that players believe they may have on creators supports the continued use of monetization strategies (Ahmadu 2023).
Tumblr media
The growth of esports is another aspect of the trend toward commercialization. What started out as amicable buddy competitions has grown into a multibillion-dollar business. Esports competitions draw enormous viewership, and their financial appeal is bolstered by lucrative sponsorship and advertising partnerships. One topic that comes up is whether the competitive scene or gaming communities are more important to the spirit of play, or if money is the primary motivator. According to (Rauth 2023), esports are now so popular that they compete with regular sports for price money and viewership that professional gamers can compete in competitions for millions of dollars, or they can broadcast content on websites like Twitch. Similar to conventional professional sports, esports teams are valued at a total of $1 billion because of their owners, franchises, endorsement deals, cash rewards from tournament wins, and other factors (Shalabi, 2023).
Tumblr media
For gaming communities, the emergence of game streaming websites like Twitch and YouTube has opened up new horizons. These days, gamers may create their content by sharing their gameplay experiences with hundreds, perhaps millions, of viewers. This phenomenon has elevated gaming to a new level of popularity among internet users, but it also begs the question of how monetization affects the process of creating original content. A major factor in opening up Esports to a worldwide audience has been the emergence of internet streaming services like Twitch and YouTube gaming (Sponsored Post, 2023). Most gamers earn a large sum of cash from competing in esports competitions while others would livestream their pro-gaming on media sites such as Twitch and YouTube.
It’s important to understand that there is a positive link between play and monetization even as gaming communities struggle with these changes. Many contend that revenue generation gives game creators the means to produce and support top-notch games. The money made may go towards further content development, enhancements, and upgrades, which will enhance their entire game experience. Finding the ideal mix is crucial. People run a risk of offending the same people who helped to make the game popular in the first place when you tilt the balance too much in favour of commercialization. It is a challenge for developers and the gaming community to carefully traverse this terrain while maintaining the primary focus of the enjoyment of play.
