hmm something abt the parallels between shauna indirectly killing jackie vs hannah stabbing that guy 🤔🤔🤔 like the clear shift in motive and intention??? the fact that both were a “point of no return”???the overemphasis on it being the first! snow! of! winter!!!!
#oh also#they totallyyy overemphasize hannah’s crush on that guy#(which has no?? plot significance..)#however as a jackieshauna parallel….!!!!#yellowjackets analysis#yellowjackets#jackieshauna#yellowjackets showtime#shauna shipman#jackie taylor#shauna yj#jackie yj

i'm thinking thoughts
something something mike uses el (the first girl not weirded out by him) to project his feelings for will onto (bc she looks like will) something something shauna uses melissa (the first person not scared of her) to project her feelings for jackie onto (bc she looks like jackie)
#is this too niche idk#im sure there are more jackieshauna and byler parallels however i have not watched yj s1 in a while so i don't remember the specifics#yellowjackets spoilers#byler#byler parallels#jackieshauna#st parallels#strangerjackets

ugh, there is just something delicious about the parallel between mistynat and jackieshauna in the first two episodes of the new season. i barely know where to start.
obviously, misty and shauna lose their best friends. they're both to blame/blame themselves for nat and jackie's death, because essentially, they killed them.
misty actively kills nat whereas shauna passively kills jackie, which shows the difference in their relationship. but at the end of the day, once they realised what they'd done, they have a similar reaction. screaming 'no' in disbelief and holding them in their arms. they refuse to believe not only their best friend is dead, but they've killed them.
OH! and they're both too late to save them. shauna is too late to save jackie from the cold and misty cries, 'it's too late' when tai asks her how to save nat. i can't believe i almost forgot this!
another obvious parallel, misty wearing nat's jacket!! we see that shauna can't seem to let go of jackie's butterfly top, treating it as a security blanket, and now in the adult timeline misty clings onto nat's jacket. both items of clothing are physical reminders of their 'best friend' that they lost.
finally, what parallel stuck out to me the most: misty and shauna became the versions of their friends they THOUGHT they were. shauna marries jeff and becomes a suburban housewife, misty dresses like nat and goes to a bar to do whisky shots and pick bar fights.
however, nat was more than an alcoholic, despite being reduced by misty to a caricature. she feels purposeless after the woods, she's broken and from what we've seen, isolated. nat barely leaves her hotel room except to do risky shit like chase the blackmailer or help shauna dispose of adam's body. the most we see her reach out is to kevyn, who she immediately pushes away when he tries to break down her walls. she's built up this alcholic, uncaring, asshole wall to keep people out.
so when misty plays her as some rough, badass femme fatale, she's demonstrating to the audience that she hardly knows nat. she only knew nat's exterior, and nothing like her true character. to put it frankly, misty never truly knew nat because nat didn't want her to. so when misty 'becomes nat' she's becoming the shallow understanding she has of her best friend.
this ties into shauna never truly understanding jackie's true character. not because jackie hid it from her, but shauna's resentment of her did. every action we see from jackie is protective of shauna—giving her valium to calm down, saving her from the plane explosion, and even 'allowing shauna to eat her.'
however, shauna can't see how much jackie loves her because of her own bitter resentment. even as a ghost jackie is seemingly punishing shauna for letting her die, but most importantly, for hating her while she was alive.
'i don't know who you are anymore shauna.'
'maybe you never did.'
if anything, it should be completely switched around. shauna doesn't know anything about jackie. shauna is projecting this mean girl persona on jackie that just isn't there.
misty is projecting this badass, gets in bar fights and tries to light men's dicks on fire persona onto nat. sure, nat has done those things, but that isn't who she is at the core. just like how being a mean girl isn't who jackie is at her core (i've gone more into depth before, here).
i love mistynat as much as the next yellowjacket fan, but we have to be honest, for the most part, nat was always cagey with misty. something happened out in the woods that made her distrust misty, and i think they're going to explore that this season. especially with the whole, misty telling shauna that nat knows where coach ben is.
both misty and shauna make up these fantasies about their best friends to connect with them after their deaths. it's just so fascinating the writer's have decided to parallel these characters, because when i think about it, misty has always been written as this desperate character, craving attention and love. . . but so has shauna.
they've been narrative foils this entire time and it took natalie dying for me to realise it.

yellowjackets season 3 trailer takeaways/theories/observations/questions:
time jump: season 2 was firmly set in the winter and it looks like the bulk of 3 will be set in the spring (with some flashes to the Deep Winter)
how much time has passed & how did they manage to comfortably survive post-fire?
i think this time jump & whatever happened during the in-between time will explain how and why the girls seem much more deranged than they did.
they gave in to desperation and its circumstances, so nothing is really 'taboo' anymore. gimme scary evil cannibal lesbians pls
even shauna's narration references the fact that the girls "went completely nuts" out there
allusions to The Hunt: while i know most folks think mari has always been Pit Girl, i think her running in the trailer is a red herring.
this WILL, however, be what sets up the hunt and its rules/functions/the course
(because to ME, it has always looked like a cleared/intentionally set path, with s1ep1 showing their hand-made adornments hanging from the surrounding trees )
mari is 100% wearing the dress/nightgown that s1ep1 Pit Girl is.
tiktok fans have been theorizing that perhaps based on the rules of the hunt, mari will survive whatever the hell is about to happen to her while still later meeting Pit Girl's fate in the winter, but who's to say
"cant believe we didnt eat that bitch first" - says the one with the big brown eyes like a baby mf cow. she just wants to snack on her friends!
(y'all saw that part where shauna is biting and restraining mari, right?)
power struggle: it looks like there are going to be factions splitting up, or the girls will continue to show alliance to a particular 'leader'
van, misty, mari, akilah, and either New Gen or robin? potentially in support of lottie's leadership and connection to the wilderness?
them vs Everyone Else, who seems more focused on practical survival
coach ben seeing the snare trap and probably wondering if it was for a person or for an animal
(i didnt know what a snare was so i truly needed to google 'animal trap that looks like a n**se but isnt. sue me!)
shauna locking herself in a freezer because it was the only way she could talk to jackie. putting yourself into dangerous situations in hopes of manifesting the ghost of your lover? okay bella swan in new moon!
jackieshauna being connected by coldness, both emotionally and physically.
from the meat shed to the freezer, jackie taylor's ghost will never escape the ethel cain parallels!
theres probably someone out there in the world who wants to smash the man with no eyes, huh.........dont answer that actually.
taissa's grown out hair makes little tiny magical hearts float all around my head. wow. just wow.
are the yellowjackets going on a field trip in the wilderness together? where tf is natalie and did she find coach ben's hidey hole?
the envelope being addressed to shauna shipman and not shauna sadecki makes me think its from a person with ties to the wilderness, pushing the secret 8th survivor theory (perhaps hilary swank as adult Melissa CoolHat)
i WANT this ritual scene to be another dream-like allegory for them enjoying their descent.
if the snackie feast was the roman bacchanal, the political split between the girls and the power imablance could be going into a julius cesar-y territory? especially with the mistyshauna stabbing?
misty exploring someplace that looks like the one from lottie's visions? someone is on trial? natlie isnt in charge anymore?! walter has a mustache now?!!!!
van's new fixation on the fire, alluding to the idea that she could have been the one to burn down the cabin??? to quote you, girl, "REALLY? fire?!"
shauna with her knife to melissa's throat....is something gay happening there?
this creepy little song is really giving me the vibe that everything will NOT be okay!!!
in summation: women can be a little evil, as a treat!

Thoughts on ShaunaHat so far
Spoilers up to S03E06!!!
Before I say anything, I want to point out that I do not hate on anyone shipping them or enjoying their dynamic. I think everyone has their own right to ship whoever they like and I'm glad you guys have content to enjoy!
That being said my issues or, more so, concerns with ShaunaHat are purely narrative. Because what does this relationship mean for the narration? Well, it's definitely a confirmation of Shauna being bi. It has also given us a confirmation of JackieShauna (And I love it, I'm a number one JackieShauna shipper). However, I do feel like writers might just be spirling a bit too much into fanservice. I have recently read an article by Abby Monteil on Them (which I'm linking for anyone interested in reading the whole thing) and the author stated there something I am myself wondering: "How many Shauna-Jackie fics did these writers read before deciding to give Melissa vocal cords?" For me, the relationship between Melissa and Shauna is very random and something no one was expecting because Mel had like one line in season two and was one of the unimportant, randomly spawned extras.
This season some girls that have not been of interest before, seem to be getting bigger roles, especially Mari and Akilah. And I'm not mad about it. Mari's and Akilah's stories are interesting and help shape their character. I'm not even that mad about some of the fan service, it's funny like with Tai and Van's comments in episode 6 and sometimes it's a nice wink to the audience like with Mari and Pit Girl parallels (and I still believe it was a confirmation and a wink to reward the viewers and not a middle finger to the viewers) or even episode 3 Jackie reveal. It's not big things that influence the narrative really but a good way to acknowledge the viewers.
However with Melissa... do we really know anything about her beside the fact that she likes Shauna? And do we even know if she really likes Shauna or if this is some ploy? What are her thoughts on what is happening? Misty said that "Melissa can swing both ways" and honestly, yes, because I don't think there are any clear answers on her views and personality. She only appears in relation to Shauna and she usually says what Shauna wants to hear, instead of having her own voice (which I guess could be a point if she's supposed to be a new Shauna to Shauna's Jackie but it is taking away from the depth of the character). I'm still giving her a chance that there will be a turning point that will explain her actions beyond the idea of her wanting to score Shauna. Melissa barely stands as her own character. She seems to be playing a lady Macbeth role so far, encouraging Shauna and manipulating her actions (notice how she's giving Shuana compliments for being this chaotic and deadly and how she makes Gen vote against Ben first even though Shauna's screaming at other girls isn't doing much). If she does stay in this role, then maybe we will get some development for her. But I can't help but think Melissa was chosen as Shauna's new girlfriend, acolyte and servant because the writers have spent too much time on Reddit, watching edits and reading fanfiction during the hiatus, and they wrote it in to appeal to the viewers.
All in all, I'm not going to make any final opinions until the final of the season airs, but so far I've been getting a feeling that we're getting more of writers trying to appeal to their viewers than real hints and answers for the mysteries happening which is giving a feeling that they... might not know what they're doing. I am glad they are engaging with the fan base, I just hope their original idea for the show and story won't turn into a fanfiction.

okok. completely realistically. hopes and dreams aside. do you think there is a chance of lottienat happening in the teen timeline? I just keep thinking about the "lots of gay and gore" comment from the panel in Brazil, (and how the entire cast nodded and grinned.......) and my delusional brain is telling me it's got something to do with them.
I either need to be humbled or have my hopes reinforced.
I have gone back and forth on this sooo much. At times I’m like they are for sure going to have some unrequited LottieNat with Lottie having feelings for Nat and Nat never making it clear how she feels about Lottie. And then that would be paralleled with Lottie dealing with Nat’s death in the adult timeline👌👌 But other days I can recognize that I’m probably being so delusional and I’ve just been thinking about LottieNat for way too long (being on toxic yuri YJ Tumblr has rotted my brain for sure).
Realistically (and I know a lot of yall are going to hate me for saying this) I don’t think the writers wrote Lottie and Nat’s scenes with a romantic subtext in mind (at least originally). I think LottieNat has become so popular partially due to the long hiatus between Seasons 2 and 3 which has given the internet (and this show’s massive queer fanbase) a lot of time to over-analyze every single look and word between them (like I just did in the post before this!). I also think part of LottieNat seeming possible is the actresses (mostly Simone Kessell and Juliette Lewis) taking platonic scenes in the script and intentionally playing them a bit more ambiguous and suggestive (they have both admitted to shipping LottieNat).
I can see a reality in which the writers, even though they may not have intentionally written a romantic connection between the two, choose to make this canon in Season 3. I don’t think they will ever actually be together and I don’t think it will be fully requited, though. At the YJ panel I went to the writers did say that they have diverged from their original plans for the show in some areas based on choices the actors make that the writers have liked or just recognizing unexpected pathways opening up naturally as they tell the story.
However, I also see a reality (which is probably more likely) in which the writers stay on their original path and keep things platonic between them. We’ll probably get more scenes between them that we can over-analyze and make headcanons for, but nothing concrete. Another thing the writers said at the YJ panel was that, sometimes while people may think they want a ship to become canon, they don’t really want that ship to become canon (which could be them basically saying that ships like LottieNat or JackieShauna would actually have a negative impact on the story if they were confirmed in canon). They also said that they are firmly not giving in to fan service in their writing process. They specifically said they kept fan opinions out of the writers room completely this season and stuck with their own intuitions.
So, I really want it to happen, and I could see it happening, but I also don’t think it will. Does that make sense?

Yellowjackets + Song Parallels
"Sailor Song" - Gigi Perez
Jackieshauna/Shackie + Lottielee + Taivan

...

Side Tangent:
I almost didn't put in Taivan but I realized that they, out of everyone, encompass what happens after the song. The song begs for someone to weather the storm with them, for theirs to be a love that withstands everything like a sailor on a boat. For all intents and purposes, Tai and Van did that. They found someone to be in love with in a homophobic small town in 1996. But they didn't last, they broke up. Jut like everyone else, they never moved on, not really. However, unlike everyone else, they've had their chance and they also still have time. When the storm came back around they found each other again. Lottie and Shauna? They're still begging for their loves. Also Tai could have easily ended up like Lottie and Shauna because Van was almost the first to die in the wilderness several times. It's like fate is catching up to her by giving her cancer and then Tai will be like Lottie and Shauna.
I also thought of doing Lottienat but I am kind of a firm believer that regardless if Lottie and Nat end up having something in their youth before the 2021 timeline, Laura Lee was Lottie's first love. If anything, Nat was her second. That doesn't diminish Lottie and Nat's relationship, if there was one. It's just different and equally valid.
(The parallels between Jackieshauna and Lottielee are fucking insane. Shauna was pulling herself away from Jackie and Lottie was clinging to Laura Lee. Lottie was always pointed at as the "crazy" one, even by Shauna and yet Shauna was having hallucinations of Jackie. Laura Lee was burning in her last moments and you can see her accept her death in the moment itself, Jackie was freezing in her last moments and she accepted her death long before it actually happened. Parallel lines and they both ended up the same way.)
#whats another word for sailor? shipman#also doing this i was like “fuck man lottie lost both laura lee and nat”#yellowjackets#brainrot#headcanon#yj song parallels 09/?#jackie taylor#shauna shipman#lottie matthews#laura lee#taissa turner#van palmer#tai x van#jackie x shauna#lottie x laura lee#shackie#jackieshauna#lottielee#lottienat (mentioned)#taivan#sailor song

Nat and travis
All I’ve been doing is singing praises WELL LOL not for this one <3 I don’t like men I don’t like watching men I think that yellowjackets should’ve had travis’ exact character but a woman like why do we need to have a few token men in the woman show (I get it the stag shit etc whatever but I don’t like it) like travis himself in s2 I could get behind in a way if he was a girl like eating javis heart okay yes obsessed with that love the jackieshauna parallel and the way cannibalism is being viewed as an act of twisted love HOWEVER I am saying all of this to avoid any “you just don’t like men” asks because LOL YEAH I DONT LIKE MEN DING DING DING YOU FIGURED ME OUT
That said (this is where the brutally honest opinions part of the prompt comes in) I literally cannot fathom shipping them even beyond the man of it all lmao. We see Natalie’s father associated with the rifle and trauma and then we see Travis POINT A RIFLE AT NATALIE BECAUSE SHE PISSED HIM OFF???? NO THANKS???? Absolutely fucking not it’s a no from me <3
