The decommissioned and former BRP Miguel Malvar (PS-19) Vessel of the Philippine Navy (PN) will be used a Target Vessel and sunk during the "Maritime Strike (MARSTRIKE)" Event of a Military Exercise in early next Month of May, 2025.
Before its decommissioning, the Vessel served for four and a half Decades with the PN, from 1976 to 2021. Before that, the Vessel served with the Republic of Vietnam or South Vietnam as the Ngoc Hoi (HQ-12) starting in 1966, but managed to escape to the Philippines in 1976 before the fall of that Country.
The Vessel started its long Service Life during World War Two (WW2) in 1944 as PCE(R)-852 with the United States Navy (USN), and later added the name USS Brattleboro. As we can see the Vessel has had a very long Career, and was often described by the PN as its "… most Decorated Vessel …" before its retirement.
So it looks like the Ship will now go down in a "Blaze of Glory", here are some Pictures of it when it was still in Service with the PN. The "BRP Miguel Malvar" Name though now lives on as the most advanced and heavily-armed Vessels of the PN now, with a new Pennant number, the FFG-06.

I have begun a journey to figure out what literature my local library has on certain topics such as:
Sexuality
Gender/transgender/transsexual topics
Hormone therapy
Queer history
Psychology: general and abnormal
Substance abuse disorders and recovery
Non-christian religions
Medicine
And other topics for funsies (occulttism, alternative medicine, folklore, mythology, botany, herbal medicine, mushrooms...etc)
Its been disappointing, but not surprising. The only book on hormone replacement therapy ive found is a trans panic book about some clinic prescribing puberty blockers. It was in the pediatrics section. Then there were 2 trans panic books in the gender and sexuality section. Oh, and if youre looking for that topic it's in social sciences--around the 305/306 neighborhood in dewey decimal, and HQ12-78 in library of congress classification.
I think the books we choose to keep in our libraries, how we classify them and what we have physical vs digital copies of, reflects the values and ideology of a community. Maybe more of us should keep that in mind. Think of the teenager looking for medical books on hrt or information about the queer experience and only finding trans/queer panic books on the shelves.
You can request your library to purchase material, so we should use that tool to show what we support. And dont neglect the nonfiction section--thats where we look for information that impacts our lives. It matters.

[ @hquinsel continued from here ]
Selina was one of the first people that Harley told the news to. It hadn’t even been on purpose, but the pain on her right side had been too much to hide, and Harley hadn’t had time to come up with a believable excuse. She’d had to hide this part in front of Joker, in front of Jonny, but she didn’t have to hide anything from Selina—Harley knew that. Knew that the bound the two had was enough to overcome it all, the other was just a yell away.
When Selina’s arms wrapped around Harley she finally lost it. All the pain she’d been feeling the last few weeks, all the turn her emotions had been taking—it was all coming out. She leaned against Selina’s touch and let herself break for a little. Knowing this would stay between them.
Tumblr media
This was exactly the kind of thing Selina had feared. Before now, it was easy to get out of the situation that Harley had put herself in. At least—it was easier than now. This just got things all tangled up, got it all confused and muddled in Harley's brain and in Selina's as well. All she knew was that she had to be as kind as possible, as understanding as she could be, and maybe, she could try and guide Harley as best she could.
Selina, thankfully, had never been in the situation before. And she was a little bit out of her depth, but she was going to try her best to say the right thing. "Whatever you want to do, I'll help you. If you want to keep it, if you want to - get rid of it...whatever you want. I'm here."

Sample Collection Development Policy
Scenario
This collection development policy will be developed for a university library, specifically for a gender studies department. It aims to be interdisciplinary as the collection itself approaches LGBTQA+ communities and their health. This can be the overall health of the community, health habits, and much else. For this reason, the collection is relevant to the Gender Studies Department, as well as the Health Sciences Department.
Implementation Steps
Assess the needs within the Gender Studies Department, as well as in the Health Studies Department Determine which courses have a relevant interest in this collection.
Develop the collection, as well as a policy for maintenance, weeding, and continued purchases.
Seek funding approval from the Provost.
Create basic collection.
Continually assess what items are needed, what items can be deaccessioned, and what digital holdings need to be maintained.
Directional Steps
Continual collaboration between gender studies and health science department librarians. Meeting each semester should ensure that the proper amount of communication is had between librarians so that if any changes need to happen within the collection they can be handled in a timely manner.
Embed collection materials     within relevant courses within both departments, as well as encourage     interdisciplinary work among undergraduate students. The nature of this     work will expand the skill sets being developed by students and will lend     to a broader more nuanced perspective as students prepare for further     study or work in their field.
Work with students and faculty     to determine the future of the collection, what is needed, what can be     weeded, and so on. As some items may be updated, become irrelevant, or go     out-of-date, it is important to keep a handle on what is in the collection     so that the best materials are provided to students and faculty.
Operational Steps
Create a partnership between  the gender studies and health sciences faculty librarians. An initial  meeting between these librarians will allow them to assess what items the library already has that can be a part of the collection, as well as give each the opportunity to discuss curriculum and course needs.
The two relevant librarians will discuss the creation of the collection with relevant faculty and students. With the curriculum in mind, the librarians will hold meetings with students and faculty to do further needs assessment. These meetings will allow for direct communication about the relevant needs of people who  would be using the collection.
A small group will assess what the library already holds that can be added to the collection and then  determine what needs to be purchased additionally. Once the small group has decided the scope (after step 2 above), a line item list will be made  of items that need to be purchased. Items should be assessed in terms of  relevance and importance: the most relevant and important items being  purchased first. The budget will come from the library budget and can be optionally subsidized by both the gender studies and health sciences  departmental budgets. As many of the items may already be held by the library, the budget is not expected to be large.
The librarians will purchase the necessary materials and present those materials to relevant faculty so that awareness of the collection is expanded. After the items have been purchased using the combined budget, a meeting will be held to introduce  the new collection to faculty and students. This meeting will be open to  all, so that any interested university community member can familiarize themselves with the new materials.
Introduction to Collection Development Policy and Subject Headings
The university Gender Studies Department seeks to build a collection about LGBTQA+ health. In doing so, the department recognizes the need to collaboration with the Health Sciences Department, so that the collection has an interdisciplinary appeal. Both departments recognize the relevance of such a collection, and understand that in order to find adequate monetary resources for it, they must work together to secure the budget. The university will benefit from this collection, as the resources will be embedded into Gender Studies, Health Science, and Nursing classes on campus. Additionally, this collection represents the possibility of interdisciplinary student collaboration, at the graduate and undergraduate levels, as well as the development of interdisciplinary courses that could bolster the overall prestige of the university.
The following subject headings are listed as 1) a guideline to where the collection will be expanded and/or relying upon previously purchased volumes.  In implementing the collection, it is important to be aware of what exactly we have that falls under these headings. And 2) to demonstrate to administrators what subjects in the physical library will be present in the collection. In order to fully realize the collection, a wide understanding of what could fall into that collection needs to be established for those who are approving of monetary lines items for that collection. Because administrators may not have time to scan the stacks for our current holdings, it is important to at least show them where these items will be coming from (if they are already purchased or not).

Vision and Mission
Gender Studies is an evolving and important discipline. One aspect of this is the health and wellness of LGBTQA+ communities. Both the Gender Studies Department and the Health Sciences Department already have pre-existing collections specific to their disciplines. By allocating funding from each department, this collection aims to address the diverse and important needs and challenges involved in the health and wellness of LGBTQA+ communities. The collection aims to add layers of nuance to the already complex studies of gender and health sciences. Also, the physical items in this collection will be available for interlibrary loan, thus enhancing the study of LGBTQA+ health at our fellow consortium libraries as well.
Purpose of the Policy
The purpose of this policy is to guide the interdisciplinary collecting of materials related to health and wellness in LGBTQA+ communities. The policy itself aims to establish guidelines for the assessment of need, purchasing of materials, retaining of materials, and weeding of materials. This will support the curriculum of both departments by allowing productive discussion between department librarians about what is relevant to each. Both majors are in constant development, and as such have determined that it is appropriate to collaborate on this level.
Collection Development Goals
The collection aims to be timely, up-to-date, and thorough. Subject librarians will work together to make sure that the collection holds valuable materials, purchases relevant materials, ensure relevant courses have access to materials, and weed items that are no longer relevant.
Annotated Bibliography
Note: These titles were chosen for one of two reasons: 1) they exist as examples of previous collection development policies that influenced the creation of this one or 2) they are relevant and timely articles and books that would be highly relevant to the collection and we would hope to include. This bibliography aims to demonstrate what kind of items would be included in the collection. Items would be added, updated, or weeded as necessary.
Bigner, J. J., & Wetchler, J. L. (Eds.). (2012). Handbook of LGBT-affirmative couple and family therapy. New York: Routledge. This book would be helpful to the collection in that it approaches LGBT relationships in an intentionally affirmative manner. As these relationships are often still stigmatized, this item shows the seriousness and acceptance that the collection needs in order to participate in relevant academic discourse.
Chrisler, J. C., & McCreary, D. R. (Eds.). (2010). Handbook of gender research in psychology. Volume 2, Gender research in social and applied psychology. New York: Springer.
This volume approaches gender research in terms of psychology with several different articles. Sex, sexual identity, gender identity, and much else are discussed in this volume, which makes it relevant to both gender studies and health sciences.
Collection Development - Women’s and Gender Studies. (n.d.). Retrieved July 31, 2017, from http://www.wellesley.edu/lts/collections/collectiondevelopment/cdpolicies/cdwost
This policy demonstrates the high level of detail that can be incorporated into a collection development policy. In referencing this policy, I hope that my own contains as much descriptive detail, as well as functional detail, such as the relevant Library of Congress Subject Headings.
Collection Policies | U-M Library. (n.d.). Retrieved July 31, 2017, from             https://www.lib.umich.edu/taubman-health-sciences-library/collection-policies-um-           health-sciences-libraries-medicine-nursing-and-pharma#interdiscipline
This overall policy points out especially useful practices in terms on interdisciplinary collecting, especially between medical libraries. As my own collection development policy aims to be useful to a variety of disciplines, this is an important reference.
Dow, B. J., & Wood, J. T. (Eds.). (2006). The SAGE handbook of gender and communication. Thousand Oaks, Calif: Sage Publications.
This volume is of immediate need for those pursuing gender studies, but it is included here so that those studying health sciences can have a volume that goes into detail on how gender is discussed and communicated. As future health professionals, they must be sensitive and have an understanding of the communities they serve.
 Hyde, J. S., & DeLamater, J. D. (2006). Understanding human sexuality (9th ed). Boston:  McGraw-Hill.
This book provides perspectives on sexuality that will be important to undergraduate courses in both the gender studies and health sciences majors. Being able to refer students and faculty to a text that approaches a variety of perspectives about sexuality is essential to the functionality of this collection.
Newman, M. L., & Roberts, N. A. (Eds.). (2013). Health and social relationships: the good, the   bad, and the complicated (1st ed). Washington, D.C: American Psychological  Association.
This collection links social groups with health. As such, it is an important part of this collection as it adds further detail to the thinking on health, wellness, and the LGBTQA+ community.
Piperato, J. M. (2014). Lesbian, gay, and bisexual college students’ knowledge, perceptions, and  beliefs about HIV/AIDS (M.A.). Indiana University of Pennsylvania, United States -- Pennsylvania. Retrieved from             https://search.proquest.com/docview/1608998892/abstract/8CCACE06942D40D3PQ/1
This article approaches a vitally important aspect of this interdisciplinary collection: perception and understanding. It is hoped that by having items such as this in the collection, students and faculty may be better prepared to do the research that is relevant to how health and wellness are perceived and understood in LGBTQA+ communities.
Talbott, D., Janzen, M., & Forth, C. E. (Eds.). (2012). Bodies and culture: discourses, communities, representations, performances. Newcastle upon Tyne, U.K: Cambridge Scholars Pub.
This collection, which discusses bodies and how they are perceived, is important to research on health as how students and faculty think of bodies can directly relate to how they think about health.
Umberson, D., Thomeer, M. B., Reczek, C., & Donnelly, R. (2016). Physical Illness in Gay,  Lesbian, and Heterosexual Marriages: Gendered Dyadic Experiences. Journal of Health and Social Behavior, 57(4), 517–531. https://doi.org/10.1177/0022146516671570
This journal article really speaks to the interdisciplinary nature of this collection. Appearing in The Journal of Health and Social Behavior, it speaks to how gendered health assumptions can be uprooted in LBGTQA+ relationships. This article truly speaks to how timely and relevant this materials, as well as this collection are.
 Women’s Studies | Columbia University Libraries. (n.d.). Retrieved July 31, 2017, from http://library.columbia.edu/about/policies/collection-development/subject/womens.html
This policy shows how to subdivide a policy productively, while keeping the policy itself concise. The hypothetical collection development policy made in this paper also aims to be productive in these ways.
