I love fictional world chronic illnesses/disabilities/disorders,, like for example in fairy lore there is stardust, which is a fine powder each fairy produces that give them both the ability to fly and 1 to 2 abilities specific to them

But fairies have been known to have Stardust Deficencies, where they cannot fly and either dont have or can only very sparingly use their powers. Additionally, their bodies are often teetering on hibernation all the time. Or on the other end, Hyperdust, where they have some much stardust their abilities are too powerful and often harm themselves as well being unable to be controlled, while also making it hard for them to hibernate. There are ways of managing both through dust deposits, with deficencies taking donated dust and pressing it onto their wings, which both fight off hibernation and gives them the ability to fly (but no abilities) and hyperdusts combing the dust build up from their wings, giving them more control over their own powers and allowing them to sleep. Both are a tedious process, but they help greatly.
