Flowers - what’s the nicest thing someone has surprised you with?

The first thing that comes to my mind is a Christmas present from a couple years ago. I had asked my grandparents for a scale model of a car, but they surprised me with two.

The first was a Lamborghini Marzal, of all things. The other one, however, was a Matchbox Duesenberg Model J from 1970. In its original box.

As in, the toy car was from 1970. The car's model year was 1932.

Now, I don't think I've been very vocal about my affinity for Duesenberg, on here or IRL, but I do like them quite a lot. They are probably my favourite pre-WW2 cars, even. Which my grandparents were quite unlikely to know. They just saw a neat looking model car (at a pawn shop of all places, so I've heard) and thought of me. I was pretty extatic.

The Duesenberg Model J is a total poster car of mine, the fastest and most expensive car of its time. How a 50+ year old model of one got to a pawn shop in east Slovakia is a mystery, but I am very glad it made its way to me.

Introspective - what’s one thing you would have done differently in your life?

Look into coding earlier in life probably. I feel like it could have been fun to me IF I had tried it at my own pace. Not like there weren't enough resources, just... the experiences I did have with it made me not feel like continuing, let's say that.

You art is fab! I have a question: how do you manage to draw so often? You seem like you pump out sketches constantly, it’s amazing! And they’re of such great quality too

Many of those initial sketches are weeks or even months old at this point. They just accumulate until i finally decided to do a house cleaning and then you see a lot of stuff suddenly appear at once.

(But also the power of summer and sun and being lucky to have several weeks off + new blorbos)

On a more technical level , I have always been someone who enjoys sketching most. I have ideas, many of them, and if one drawing takes forever then i’ll never get around to do all the other ones, let alone comics!

When i draw traditionally (which i was able to do a lot again this year) I mostly draw straight with pen, no pencil. And i have done so for many years. I’d say that definitely helps a lot too with becoming very efficient and getting things “right” on the first try more often.

(Other than becoming better at anatomy) Drawing slow, really thinking about your line placement , trying not to move your hand faster than your brain can think will make you faster at doing drawings. The more you get right the first time the less there’s to fix later. Ideally I just do a drawing that’s fairly clean and solid from the start so I only have to do a little clean up later. I’ve never really done the classic -do a detailed sketch first and then do clean lineart ontop of that -thing. Which doesn’t mean that i never have a sketch i draw ontop of. I usually just try to keep the sketch extremely basic without many details. Sometimes i just brain vomit a bunch of idea doodles to get them onto paper.

When my colleagues at work ask me what I do for fun, it's hard to explain that while I love sewing my own fashions, cosplaying, biking and snorkeling, mostly I spend time drawing, writing about and reading about two grumpy old cartoon men and the circumstances of their lives. I get a lot of sympathetic, troubled looks.

Just thinking about the time when I got into the show glee solely because I had looked up 'best gay TV show couple' and it was on the list because of Klaine. No other reason. I binge watched an entire show for nothing but one couple that didn’t even kiss until 2 SEASONS IN. And I had looked up what episodes their moments together were. I could have skipped. But I wanted all the context. I watched like hours every single day just to get to the next like 5 minute scene of both of them together. To this day I absolutely love the show. It’s a cinematic masterpiece. But I do feel like a Psychiatrist should take a look at that. Maybe. Possibly. Did not feel so normal looking back on it.

Actually, fuck it, maybe fun details will get more people on board. My list of random reasons why you should watch/listen to The Old Man And The Old Moon without major spoilers:

Shadow puppets! Absolutely gorgeous shadow puppets!

Puppets in general, actually. Some pretty, minimalistic puppets that help with the suspension of disbelief for the audience. (When the show was first written and produced, it was by poor college students who made a dog puppet with an empty bleach bottle and a mop.)

The opening monolog changes every night, depending on the phase of the moon.

The music, dear God, is beautiful, and the actors all play the instruments on stage.

There is an accordion. That is all.

One of the songs is not recorded, and there is only a segment of it on youtube. It is called Prison Fish, and if you do not watch the show, you don't get to hear it, ever.

When they needed to show two ships interacting, they just had the actors yell "And ship!" before running to make the shape of the bow.
