Look, I don't really ship ANYTHING, but these guys are just such a fascinating couple.

They would ... probably not be good for each other, long term. Tim wouldn't really respect Jubilee's discomfort with heroics, and isn't good at building insecure people up. He also forgets dates, and that would CRUSH my girl. Jubilee gets aggressive when she's worried about people in ways that wouldn't be great for Tim, and he'd ... just let her insult him.

But. There's a reason they got merged in a different Amalgam event, and it isn't ONLY that Wolverine was merged with Batman. Jubilee was created in conversation with Tim. (And the other Robins.) She wore his colours, had weaknesses in most places he had strengths, drowned where he flourished. She was a formerly rich street kid with a learning disability, a fast mouth, and acrobatics training. She ... fits around him, in ways that characters from different universes rarely do.

They're both destructively loyal to men who put other things first. They're both used to being forgotten about and abandoned. They're both bleeding a need to be seen and prioritized, and both accept that they don't 'deserve' it.

She has a LOT of the traits that draw him to Steph. And, she would be drawn to him for the same reasons all the other damaged, defensive girls are drawn to him! He's attentive and gentle, caring and kind, lets you project whatever you want onto him, and rarely says no.

That weird crossover is so in character for both of them! They WOULD be friends! They WOULD get along! He would kindly knock her out instead of fighting, and she WOULD let him!

Like, this is just an amazingly meaty relationship. Bewilderingly so. Has no right to be as fascinating and filled with possibilities as it is.

It's also impossible to write a fanfic of without a LOT of work. Neither of them could survive without their loved ones, so you pretty much HAVE to amalgamate the universes if you want a happy, in character, ending. They don't have compatible priorities. They don't have reasons to interact. Both would HATE the other's mentor. Like, virulently.

It's doomed. Not meant to be. But I WANT TO READ ABOUT IT WORKING!

I want them to gentle each other like they're both abused stray cats! I want Nightwing to give Jubilee head scratches while Tim self-combusts! I want Gen X to stare at Tim in disbelief, trying to figure out both what Jubilee sees in him, AND what he sees in her. Like, she's great! But how does someone like HIM recognize that???? I want Logan to only be allowed to enter Gotham when picking Jubilee up, and Tim to be ABSOLUTELY BANNED from ever going anywhere with him, and Jubilee hating Bruce so so bad. But Logan agrees with the rules. I want the Martha Wayne Foundation to be funding mutant charities. I want Batman to be as good with young mutants whose powers have just kicked in as he is with all the other traumatized, vulnerable people he helps. And also to be paranoid about mutants, and assume the worst. I want Cyclops and Batman to respect each other, work together well, and VIOLENTLY HATE INTERACTING.

And I want there to have been RULES and BALANCE and it wasn't good - it was actually really ugly - but it was WORKING. And now Batman and the X-Men and the JLA and SHIELD ... it's all falling apart because Jubilee wants to hang out on Gotham rooftops forcing Tim to try weird candies. Which shouldn't be a problem. This isn't Romeo and Juliet. These are reasonable adults. Heroes. Everyone KNOWS that this shouldn't be a big deal.

But she's a MUTANT, and Wolverine's a former ASSASSIN, and the X-Men keep adding supervillains to their roster, and Wayne Industries designs power-suppressors, and Batman USES those power-suppressors, and fear isn't logical.

Logan In Love

Yknow, I'm very torn with writing Logan being in love. On one hand, I feel like Logan would have a hard time accepting and being in love, I feel like he would be so hard- so used to being alone. The moment someone (you) would come along, stirring up those feelings he thought were honestly dead, he wouldn't know what to do with himself. Maybe he'd lash out, maybe he'd pull away, telling himself it was for your own good to not be around some like him. (and maybe he's protecting himself too in what he believes would be inevitable heartbreak)

Then I think, Logan has been around, lived long enough to be sure of his feelings, to not beat around the bush when it comes to dealing with things and Logan is very good at dealing with things. He's always been straight forward in his goals, his feelings. If he thought something was stupid, he'd say it. (I'm sorry I still can't help but giggle when I hear him call Xavier "Wheels" bc of the superhero names) For example, how he feels for Jean (think the X movies), he wasted no time in flirting with her, and honestly if Jean had any interest in him (Fuck you Jean Logan IS a good guy and he's the goodest and sweetest boy ever) and her and Scott weren't a thing, how quickly do you think they would have been together? bc Logan didn't seem to have many qualms about them being together at all and by the third movie (I mean, the time span isn't really that long, what, the three movies stretch 6 months to a year maybe? If even that? Honestly they felt like an extremely bad 3 weeks the gang had), he confessed he loved her (then had to kill her oop)

So maybe, when you come around (lets say your own special timeline, not the x movies or whatever) and you and Logan meet for the first time, Logan knew someone was it for him when he saw you. Something about you drew him in, the same way animals seem to know they met their mate. There was no doubt he liked you on a physical and emotional level, and soon after building something of a friendship with you- he knew he loved you. In something like the X-men, you build trust with each other, from having to live together, to dangerous missions, it was going to happen. What you and Logan gained together though, was something much more than trust and friendship.

Logan was sure of his feelings. His past, the fact that he had been roaming for the last 10-15 years alone, didn't matter in this equation. He knew what he felt and goddamn he was going to hold onto you and never let you go because you had become the best thing hes ever gotten in his life, especially after he gains his 200 years of memory back- he becomes even more sure in his decision that you weren't going to leave the adamantium grip he has on you (I mean, really, good luck getting out of that. Not that you would want too). He would protect you and keep you safe. He knew he could make you happy, and give you anything you ever wanted because honestly that's all Logan wants himself.

Logan was extremely observant, and he learned your quirks, your flaws, and all the sweet things he'd pick up over time. Maybe you thought he was just flirting with you, being Logan and everything, but no. Logan was dead serious about you, and he would wait for you to notice-and when you begin to notice that no other lady would turn his head, even the other ladies of the team, beautiful and strong that would turn the head of any man didn't have an effect on him. His eyes was always on you when you were in the same room. He always checked on you, concerned if you seemed tired, upset, angry, trying to get you to open up to him because it's not just him knowing how he feels about you but he desperately wants you to feel the same for him, to feel close to him the way he feels to you.

Maybe Logan does worry if he's right for you. Maybe he doesn't consider himself a good guy. With the things he's done, how could he be, surely he isn't? Its the X-men, and YOU, mainly you honestly, that makes him think that maybe he could be the good guy. Maybe he can make up for the mistakes he's made in his long life. Maybe, his sins don't matter because now he's in love, he'd found someone he wants to be better for, and no longer does he feel the need to let that weight sit on his shoulders because you were there and you made his world feel less bleak and hopeless. (Remember when he tells Jean "I could be the good guy" in that cute little way? the way he was desperate for her approval....I STILL HATE YOU FOR BEING MEAN TO HIM JEAN (okay but maybe logan should have backed off a woman that WAS taken and said no...gotta love me a stubborn man I suppose...)

It wasn't until a particularly dangerous mission that he finally breaks down, he's checking on you and you just can't handle it right now, trying to get him to just let you rest but he so desperately needs you, and needs you to be okay that he grabs you and kisses you. (Think of him and Jean in X2. He's just desperate for you.) He needs you to see how he feels about you before it becomes too late. It took you by surprise and took you a minute to even register what just happened but you kissed him back. He tells you he loves you, he's in love with you and he needs you. Things get heated after that, and afterwards you ask him when he began to feel this way for you, in which he'd teasingly say

"You got your heads in the cloud sweetheart. I've loved you the moment I met you."

"Deadpool and Wolverine": queercoding analysis of Poolverine in the movie

//Disclaimer: This is NOT a hate post to Vanessa/Wade shipp, but if you ship them, this post is probably not for you.

I've seen a few queerbaiting allegations and, frankly, don't agree with them. Now I'll explain why.

Starting with the fact that movie begins as a typical reasoning for a character to get a new love interest: we find out Wade and Vanessa broke up after roughly 7-8 years together.

Either we don't know (or I just don't remember lol) for how long they've been separate, but it was enough time for Vanessa to get in a new relationship.

And we know that the reason for this breakup is the core differences between the two. In the previous movie they wanted to get a child and Wade's entire motivation was based around Vanessa. In this movie tho, it seems like even if Wade is still not completely over breakup, he seems to be compliant with the fact they are not together anymore. You would expect Wade to go and do something silly to Nessa's new guy, but he doesn't. He respects her decidion.

Wade has more of an existentioal crisis than just hurting from the breakup. So I would assume he's not over because he feels like he messed up and keeps giving sad puppy eyes holding on this romantic relationship with Vanessa. Tho they are still soulmates and friends no matter what.

I don't know about you, but for me this exposition doesn't look like a foreshadowing of Vanessa and Wade getting back together. Vanessa is happy and self-actualised on her own, even if Wade is not.

I don't see Wade trying to change as an act of trying to get back with Vanessa. He reacts like this because his family member pointed out his flaws.

Secondly, the only other "hints" for a relationship between Wade and Vanessa is him remembering how they kissed and in the end Vanessa holding Wade's hand. Which, let me point out, is not a typical trope to show characters are back together. You know what's typical? A KISS! Which never happened btw.

Not to be this person, but we all know Disney/Marvel haven't got the balls to show a canon queer relationship. So the only "hints" for Vanessa/Wade seem to either read as platonic, or purely as an attempt of Disney to be like !look! female love interest!.

Now, other important part. If you really think about it, referencing the first part of the post, the movie follows an enemies-to lovers romantic movie formula:

(optional) breakup with previous partner;

annoyance first (previous deadpool movies);

admiration upon actual meeting (even if Wade acts cocky, when you listen to him telling the story about how his universe's Logan saved Laura, you can clearly see he adores the hero, who, as we know, is relatively similar throughout multiverse. Wade knows this Logan has the same morals as other ones, hearing how he regrets not being able to help his x-men);

"having to" go on an adventure/quest together even tho they are annoyed at each other;

enemies bickering and fighting because they have differences (which are actually similarities between the two which drive them insane when they see this mirroring);

the breaking point and confrontation (the Logan monologue in the car scene);

*the close proximity tention* hate fucking as a spicy way to get over the argument (in the car scene they are shown to fight just for the sake of letting out steam);

the cold period when characters ignore each other because they are still pissed (when Laura got the two to her base);

getting over it and working together, trusting that the other got their back;

saving the world with the power of love brotherhood with romantic soundtrack on;

both staying alive and having a heart-to-heart conversation;

one wants to leave, but the other stops them (usually it would be followed up with a kiss but oh well);

officially meeting a parental figure of one of the characters and moving in together as in an established relationship.

I don't think I'm delusional if I say I haven't seen brotherhood media (ones without queerbaiting or actual siblings) that would follow this formula. But I did see romantic storylines.

All in all, Wade and Logan go through a development and establishment of a relationship. And I'm not even talking about the obvious "one being there when other lost everything and giving them a new family and home".

In the movie there are so many romantic tropes of these CANONICALLY QUEER CHARACTERS, which make it safe to assume that queercoding is in fact happening. I would argue about it if both of them were straight in the source material, but this is the best and most important part, they are not :)

And this is why "Deadpool & Wolverine" is actually a romcom. Thank you for reading!

really fascinated with deadpool & wolverine less as a movie and more as a corporate response to the growing insecurity in relating to and creating meaningful art. like, never have we been more aware of the impact that the relationship between art and artist is oppressively mediated by Corporation than right now with marvel, whose movies grow continually worse and more forgettable under growing corporate control, and this movie bears the weight of a particularly complicated and contentious merger. what they decided to do about it is just. fascinating. disturbing, but fascinating.

the movie is incredibly aware that it is a Product and seems to have completely sidestepped any attempt at meaningful storyline in lieu of packing as much Content into 2.5 hours as possible. and I mean Content. they broke him up with his girl & separated him from all his meaningful character connections, then sent him through a very funny but disjointed and lackluster plot, putting all the meat in nostalgic character interactions or gratuitous fan-pleaser match-ups that can work as tiktok clips. don't get me wrong, i'm a basic x-men bitch. wolverine is one of my all time favorites, especially early angry fucked up alcoholic logan. i gasped at elektra and straight up screamed when wesley snipes came into frame. I laughed out loud at the list of cocaine slang terms disney apparently has. it was fun! it succeeded in making me not mind that it was barely a movie.

and that's the rub, isn't it? it was barely a movie, and it knows it’s barely a movie. but it still has to connect with its audience somehow. and that, i think, is what's really fascinating. it forges its connection with the audience not by building characters or stakes and giving any of them genuinely grounded emotional arcs but by using a fourth-wall breaking character to commiserate with the audience about the impact of corporate ownership & profit on their relationship and access to the stories we love. while being the impact of corporate consolidation on stories you love.

deadpool makes jokes about his stupid villain and mcguffin machine, but the plot is still motivated by a stupid villain and a mcguffin machine. he jokes about being banned from doing cocaine on screen & does not do cocaine on screen because he can't. the corporation that now owns his IP has deemed it against their values. he jokes about what things "have to happen" in the movie because there is actually a list that they were given. as a friend pointed out, “the climax was exactly as contrived as it needed to be to make it a statement: ‘you see how this barely-fleshed-out villain character is just gonna kinda stand there in front of the macguffin machine for as long as we need her to so that we can have the conversations and tropes and results we want? yeah we're just gonna do that. we're gonna keep cutting back to her just standing there going Mmmmm mwah haha to specifically highlight how dumb it is. On purpose.’”

by embedding it in the plot with a character that breaks the fourth wall, the movie stops being “about” the plot on screen and starts being “about” the collective relationship to the characters, embodied by ryan reynolds, whose personal desire for a good deadpool & wolverine movie motivated by his pure love for deadpool is the mythological origin of the movie, and who was allowed to break character and say as himself to hugh jackman as wolverine “you have no idea how long i’ve been waiting for this.” he’s turned into a sort of avatar of the pure fan, who’s there to love the character and have fun and isn’t too bothered by logistics and legalities. it wants you to feel like deadpool also hates it when stories get shuffled because of corporate stockowners, like this extremely expensive bullshit is his personal protest and he's going to give them a proper sendoff & ryan reynolds was around to hold everyone up to standard. the corporation soothing the audience and fan that people who love the stories are ‘in charge’ enough to create a good time, lowering your standards and expectations of a story to what’s profitable for them to create.

Who do you think has been the best at writing Kurt and what is your favorite stage of the character? Personally, Kurt from Excalibur is my big favorite.

Hey! I don't think I've actually talked about Kurt much, aside from complaining about his NPC status and bizarre priest coding (that was quickly reversed) in From The Ashes

It's hard to argue with Excalibur as a defining run for Kurt's character and his themes. He got to buckle his swash and I really enjoy the relationships built during Excalibur (except Brian. Dude sucks IMO) - even if those relationships and shared experiences have been backgrounded of late. I wasn't aware of different authors when I first read it but looking back Alan Davis if I have to pick.

My favourite stage of the character though is Krakoan Age Kurt. I enjoyed him under Hickman's pen (even if the third law was a mistake.) Si Spurrier made some pretty massive missteps in Way of X but I'm glad that his reaction to Krakoa generally and The Crucible specifically was explored. There's a lot of ways to approach 'I need to start a mutant religion' and zooming in on his personal crisis of faith and allying him with Legion really worked for me.

Focusing on people and examining the laws with the background threat of Onslaught was clever, and he reached the only conclusions that makes sense. I do wish it was longer and a deeper dive into the laws, but it'd break the premise a little if The Onslaught Revelation ended and Kurt said out loud that the Krakoan government is corrupt and we need to start from scratch. Everyone nearly died permanently because Xavier has too much power with no means of accountability.

I'd have hated it if he really did start a religion; The Spark was a secular philosophy that addressed his personal crisis and resonated with a certain kind of person. I've seen people call it a religion and it makes me wonder if they read the book. The foray into justice reform in Legion of X is something I loved on a conceptual level - yes he was using his QC position for legitimacy but at its core the Altar and Legionaries was about the little people, the younger folks, those working for redemption. Kurt's pointed and specific refusal to co-operate with Charles Xavier on his authoritarian bs was a great character beat, as was defending Juggernaut's agency and the chance to be better. I do wish the original sin of Sabertooth in the hole was touched on, but Victor LaValle nailed it elsewhere so I can't complain.

Combined with the Quiet Council dissolution in Immortal X-Men I think we'd have seen an upswell of younger, politically engaged mutants eager to reform their home. I digress.

I loved Kurt's time as Spider-Man (or spinnenmann lol) as a kind of back to basics during the worst time for mutants. It's relatable that he'd be overwhelmed by trauma and grief and just want to be 'a whole Kurt Wagner' for a while. Fight some bad guys, have a romance, eat pizza with Spider-Man. I definitely liked the retcons in X-Men Blue: Origins, the follow up in X-Men Forever, but most of all that he was allowed to be angry about it in Uncanny #700. Trust is earned and neither of his bio parents have done that.

As I mentioned, I'm unimpressed with how he's been used in From The Ashes. He's wasted as a background character and I think putting him on the Uncanny team was a mistake. If it was my decision I'd have him as a peacemaker, flitting from team to team and book to book. I especially feel like he'd visit Katschen himself and not be a party to Iceman spying on her. Kurt and Kitty have a much closer relationship. Tom Brevoort has been outspoken about the X-Men killing people in Fall of X - Kurt and Kitty are the perfect lens to explore that through.

I get that he was already taken by Uncanny, but focusing on Logan and Rogue (where their familial relationship 'upgrade' is recent and barely established) to the detriment of other longstanding relationships feels like a waste to me.

What if in some universe Victor had raised Laura after Logan was gone?

What if that blonde menace to society took an oath years ago to protect Logan's kits and despite how much he's glad the old fuck is dead, Laura didn't do anything wrong and theres still time "To teach her how to let 'it' out" it being the feralness and the "wild" as he calls it.

What if wade had met the one raised by sabretooth to be a cold blooded killer? Because obviously this wouldn't be right, so she would get pruned with the other sabre but- BUT.

What if, just for a second, Wade makes her feel understood. He's not angry at her for growling and biting him. Scratching or her following her insticts to kill first ask later?

What if for the first time, someone other then her father and her "uncle victor" seen her as more then just a wild child and more of someone who deserves love just for being who she is?

And yeah, Laura gets the Nickname Runt Jr? Sometimes just Runt, sometimes cupcake, or other demeaning names. But for once someone calls her sweet things because they want her to feel safe.

Sweetheart isn't an insult anymore, but a pet name (not that shes a pet or anythint NOsirey!)

Darling is genuienly said and not growled at her or teased.

And if you really REALLY wanna break some hearts? Have this universe's Wade remember Origins James and how similar Laura and him are. That would really hurt.

Someone needs to be here to hold this little girls hand when she grows up. And clearly Logan cant.

I kind of do requests. If it's something I feel I can actually elaborate on or write I usually do. For this I don't feel like I can I am sorry. I feel this way for 2 reasons

1) My interpretation of Victor (blame this fic) is not someone who should be around Laura. Or really anyone for that matter and especially not Logan.

However I feel that this is a perfect starting point for a different interpretation of the character than my own. I would genuinely love to read this if someone wrote it.

2) I have written them interacting before and Laura has more of an on-site thing with him. I think even as a child she would attempt to murder him. She read the comics and has opinions.

Anyways break down of what you did write:

I love the idea that even as fucked up as their relationship was and maybe how much they hated each other they did have an understanding. If it came down to it they would protect their own if they ever had kids and couldn't themselves take care of them.

Probably some pack mentality that was left over. Also the fact that no mutant child deserves to be by themselves let alone a feral.

I also agree that Victor would make everything much worse with her Logan is definitely the more tame of the two. Thus Victor would have no qualms teaching her to not be as reserved.

I love the idea that Wade has to deal with this because he would know what a typical Laura would be like so this would take him by surprise. There's no way he isn't charmed I don't feel like it's possible.

He would get it I mean considering he kills for a living so they would find a kinship in that, but also the fact that he just isn't afraid. Everyone else fears her except for this one maniac who just makes jokes.

She's never met anyone like him how could she not be enamored?

Wade being the first one to treat her with genuine kindness is fascinating. The idea that Victor is not doing anything other then the bare minimum treating her like he would almost treat Logan.

The idea that even if Wade didn't know who Laura was he would know immediately because of how much she acted like James is adorable. That is heartwarming and heartbreaking. Bravo bravo my friend.

The only person he wont do anything romantic with is Ben.

Ashlyn is the only person he ever says hes dating, but theres obviously more going on in the group.

Hes definitely got something going on with Tyler, he says that hes just experimenting a bit when asked by an outsider about it, but everyone in the group knows their dating.

Not much going on with Taylor and Logan, but he'll do almost anything for the thrill. Taylor is definitely more of a platonic thing then romantic. His relationship with Logan is debatable.

Ashlyn

dosent talk about her relationships.

She implied that she may or may not be officially dating Tyler/Aiden, her classmates are debating which one shes dating or if its both.

She and Taylor have definitely messed around a bit, not a secret amongst the group, although Tyler tries to avoid those conversations.

She doesn't do much with Ben, but when she does she enjoys the silence and quiet comfort.

She has called Logan a puppy in the comic. I dont know what to tell you man.

dating Taylor? Dating Ashlyn? Does he even like women? Is he dating Tyler or Logan? Who knows, he spend a lot of time with all of them. although he tends to stick closer to Taylor.

She talks openly about dating Ben. She isn't shy to talk about being bi and how she found out with the help of Ashlyn. She talks occasionally about dabbling a little with Aiden, but still only really seeing him as a friend after the small, 3 second, experiment. Kisses Logan on the cheek frequently and in public. Shes a huge fan of pda, unlike most of the others (besides Logan and Aiden).

Tyler

He will drop little hints about how he may be dating someone in his friend group. All eyes go to Logan, which isn't wrong. Tyler is definitely a bi-poly mess. Hes dating Ashlyn, Aiden and Logan, but only shows pda with Logan.

He leaves Ben to Taylor.

Logan

Bottom. No matter what or with who, this man is a bottom. There are whole ass debates in the school of who he is dating because he blushes at and shows pda with all of the sbg gang. Who is he actually dating? no one outside their friend group knows! It gets to the point where Ashlyn, someone who hates pda, does it just to mess with people and entertain Aiden. You could ship Logan with anyone in that friend group and I wouldn't bat an eye because of how much this man blushes at almost everyone!

"Tweet Of Fate" Chapter 3 (Damian Priest X OC)

Title: Tweet Of Fate Pairing: Damian Priest X OC: Sharlotte Taylor Summary: Little did Sharlotte Taylor know that her first little tweet to WWE wrestler, Damian Priest, would change her life forever. Hearing about his nasty breakup with his girlfriend, and seeing so many hateful tweets to him regarding his failed relationship, she wants to send him something encouraging, so she sends him an inspirational quote. It sparks Damian's interest and leads to a flirty, but close online friendship between the two. A friendship that turns into a little something more than either of them had counted on.

Note: I am completely making this up. I'm not modeling this after actual shows and matches or anything like that. I'm just making it up because it's easier for me to do that way.

Chapter 3

Sharlotte and Noah sat down on the large sofa with a big bowl of popcorn and cans of soda, just as Monday Night RAW's opening pyro blasted throughout the arena. A few short seconds later, Travis Scott's "4 X 4" began playing in the background as Michael Cole announced that RAW was live in Miami, Florida. He went over some of the matches set up for the evening, and then mentioned that Damian Priest had a big announcement to make later in the night.

Noah looked over at his aunt, "Do you think it's good news, or bad news?"

Sharlotte thought for a moment. She had a feeling it was bad news, due to the way Damian acted at Saturday Night Main Event. But she didn't want to voice her opinion to Noah. He really looked up to Damian Priest and she did not want to jeopardize that. "I have no idea," she chuckled. "Let's see what happens."

They both watched as Logan Paul came down to the ring and grabbed a microphone. He stood in the middle of the ring with his cocky smile, and thanked the fans for their support, despite the fact that most of them were booing him.

Then his facial expression went serious.

"To say I'm surprised by the outcome of the match last night, is an understatement," he said. "I thought we would have an honest, clean match and-"

Click.

Noah glanced at Sharlotte when the channel abruptly switched.

"Sorry," she said softly. "I just really don't want to hear him right now. Is that okay with you, or do you want to watch?"

Noah shook his head, "Nah. Let's keep the channel turned till he's done."

So, Sharlotte switched the channels back and forth to see when he left the ring. At one point though, she paused when she heard him mention the World Heavyweight Title. Curious to see if his Damian Priest bashing was done, she listened cautiously.

"The World Heavyweight Championship is where I'm setting my sights next," Logan said, with a cocky smirk. At all the boos, he stated, "Boo all you want. You are looking at the face of WWE!"

There were even more boos than before and Sharlotte rolled her eyes. "He wishes."

Noah laughed and then turned his attention back to the television and listened as Logan Paul spoke again about winning the world title.

"Oh, man," Noah said suddenly, as realization dawned on him. "I hope they don't have Jey lose the title to him."

"Me too," Sharlotte said softly. "I would not like that at all."

Finally, Logan left the ring and Sharlotte saw as he began posing and running his hands along his waistline; signifying that he wanted the title belt.

The cameras cut off then, and a video package prior to Wrestlemania aired of Damian Priest stating that if Logan Paul won, he'd lose everything.

Sharlotte shook her head smiling slightly, I sure hope he was acting when he said that line. "Lose everything"? He'll always have fans, no matter what happens. He's got a girlfriend... She chose to brush over that tidbit simply because of who he was with. He has a great job and success. I highly doubt a loss from that loser, Logan Paul is going to cost him "everything".

She and Noah sat through a match between Sami Zayn, against Gunther and then a three-minute squash match between Sheamus and Chad Gable.

Then finally, Damian Priest's entrance music blasted forth, and Damian emerged from the Gorilla position, heading down the ramp to make his announcement.

But, he was wearing a grim facial expression.

Uh, oh, Sharlotte thought. What's happened?

Damian got into the ring and motioned for the time keeper to hand him a microphone. He instantly brought the mic to his lips and motioned for his music to be cut.

"I'm going to make my announcement short, sweet and to the point. As you can imagine, corporate wasn't very happy with me last night. I've been fined, and suspended for a month due to my actions. So until then, I'm out of action."

Sharlotte could hear many loud boos break out through the arena. She could understand. It was not fair that Logan Paul got away with speaking about his girlfriend the way he did, and then Damian getting suspended and fined for retaliating–also, known in the wrestling world, as "cashing in a receipt".

"So anyway," Damian concluded. "Sorry to those of you who were unhappy with the match. I had every intention of a real wrestling match, till things unfortunately got very ugly last Friday. But seriously, to you—the fans—I do apologize sincerely."

Sharlotte couldn't stop the dreamy sigh that escaped her lips. There Damian Priest was, having the ability to swallow his pride and apologize. Now that's a man, she thought, smiling.

"What are you smiling about, Aunt Sharlotte," Noah asked, eyeing her strangely. "Damian's gonna be out for a whole month," he pouted.

"I know," Sharlotte said sympathetically. "It really sucks, kiddo. I just had my mind on something else." She ruffled his dark hair. "I'm sure the month will fly by, and he'll be back before you know it."

Noah nodded, though he still looked unhappy.

After Monday Night RAW went off, Sharlotte sent her nephew up to brush his teeth and to get ready for bed. She—on the other hand—had a strange feeling about Damian's suspension. She wondered if it was a legit suspension, or if it was for a work.

Growing sleepy, she went upstairs and got ready for bed while her laptop booted up. She did a quick surf of all the wrestling dirt sheet sites she visited most frequently, trying to find some of the "reporters" opinions.

She quickly found what she was looking for and glanced at the first report she saw in her Google search—a report which confirmed she was wrong in her suspicions.

Damian Priest was suspended for thirty days—as well as fined ten-thousand dollars—due to his conduct with Logan Paul at Saturday Night Main Event.

Irritated for Damian and disappointed he wouldn't be on TV for several weeks, yet relieved he wasn't actually injured, Sharlotte finally settled into bed and fell asleep.

Damian drove his BMW down the street which led to his large home and pulled into his driveway. He guided the car into the huge garage and killed the engine. Hesitating to go inside and face Jasmine's sharp tongue, he sat for a moment. He wasn't afraid by any means, he was just in no mood for a fight.

His girlfriend had done a lot of changing over the past few months since she injured her

shoulder in the ring. She'd had surgery, so he tried his best to be there for her and to support her. But simply put, she'd turned into a shrew.

"Eh, screw it," he finally said, pulling his keys out of the ignition. "Delaying the inevitable isn't going to help me out any."

He climbed out of the car and grabbed his bag from the trunk, then entered the house through the kitchen. Wheeling the rolling luggage to the hallway he looked up at the stairway.

"Jasmine," he called out. "I'm home, babe."

Why do I bother with endearments, he wondered, slowly making his way up the stairs. He faintly heard her giggle then, followed by a loud moan, and he paused.

The sounds were coming from their bedroom.

Clenching his jaw in anger, Damian cracked his neck, releasing some tension.

"Well, I may as well get up there," he muttered under his breath. He headed the rest of the way up the stairs and stood right outside the bedroom door. Seeing it was slightly ajar, an an idea popped into his head. Quickly, he reached into his pocket, and grabbed his phone. He tapped the screen a couple times and brought up the camera, and began recording. He turned it to face him and he spoke quietly.

"What you are about to see is my girlfriend—Jasmine Greenberg, to the wrestling world— in bed with another man. This is about the third act of infidelity to my knowledge, and the first act I've caught on camera."

With that, he quietly pushed the door open a ways, and stepped into the doorway.

Smirking, he saw Jasmine straddling the hips of an averagely built blond-haired man in their bed. Not caring to watch the union, he looked away and let his camera collect the proof he would most likely need in the near future. After a couple moments, he grew tired of waiting.

"Are you guys almost finished," he asked loudly.

He got the result he wanted. The man looked as though he would have a heart attack, and Jasmine looked right into the camera, in both shock and outrage.

"DAMIAN!" she shrieked and yanked the bed covers up around her.

"What is this," the man demanded.

Damian took one look at the guy in his bed and glared as he shut off his camera, "I'm not going to kill you. But you only have about ten seconds to get dressed, get out of my bed–and my home–before I do put a load of hurt on you."

The man scrambled from the bed and yanked on his jeans and grabbed his shirt and shoes, clearly not wanting to anger the larger man further. Then he was flying past Damian and sailing down the stairs to make his escape.

"Damian... I can explain," Jasmine said, already working on a batch of tears. "I was just... so lonely... You're gone all the time and I'm here- "

"Save it, Jasmine," Damian said. "How many times are you going to keep trying to fool me? You're only fooling yourself."

"But...but Damian, I love you. I do. I just-"

"Have a serious impulse control problem," Damian finished for her. "I'm sorry, Jasmine...but there's no room for that in this relationship, or my house. I also really don't feel like dealing with a disease that you could—and eventually will—bring home to me."

"Damian, please..."

"You've said more than enough," he told her. "I have had it, Jasmine. I'm not sure what I want to do, but I need some time to think. You can stay here at the house. I'm used to hotels."

He turned to leave the room, and headed for the door.

"Damian, please don't do anything brash."

"Oh, I won't," he told her, turning back around to face her. "You've done enough of that for the both of us. You can rest assured whatever action I take will be thoroughly thought through."

And with that, he left the room, headed down the stairs, grabbed his luggage and got right back into his car.

Seconds later, he was headed for the Best Western Bay Harbor Hotel.

I've always seen Quentin Quire as truly cynical, broken, insecure yet MAGNIFICENT young mutant with a bi-curious tendency, but very much girl obsessed, young man (canon material is right there, he always TRYING to flirt with all the girls). He has so so much potential, that Logan sees himself in him and basically becomes his adoptive daddy because he is so troubled and powerful that he knows, left unchecked, he is a major problem.

It's sad and extremely funny, in romance he fails every single time. Just like his "daddy" too, but in a way less charismatic way.

Sophie Cuckoo rejected him, died, got resurrected by him after he spiraled and prefered to stay dead than be with him.

He kissed time displaced Jean Grey and got rejected. (These men love themselves some Jean Grey)

Tried to flirt with Laura Kinney and got rejected.

Tried to flirt with Illyana Rasputin and got rejected.

Gwenpool hated his guts, but there still was chemistry, so they hit it off... but then she breaks up with him via text message. Then when he is pinning over her and helping her understand she is a mutant, she just ignores his romantic advances completely lol

Phoebe Cuckoo ( yes, ANOTHER CUCKOO; get the twin sister if you can't get with the first choice I guess ) hides him from her sisters, not because she wants him only for herself, which actually is pretty manipulative to say... because she is embarassed of liking him and entertaining him in front of them. Even when she takes him to Jumbo Carnation, she says he was always great to her, but she had set it all up for a makeover session... something he did not ask for; even while Quentin was venting about his trauma, she already set this up without informing him.

She broke up with him because and let me paraphrase, he cares too much for her and that scares her, making Quentin spiral.

He is unlucky, or makes himself unlucky, he sabotages himself, because the only truly decent relationship, seeing eachother as equals and having mutual genuine interest and attraction, he fucks up. Idie.

Idie thought Quentin was temptation (gurl; stand up 🥴💀) because Hope told her to no matter what, stay away from him, which Idie obviously did not do; Quentin thought she was really attractive and approached her first. Idie and Quentin were friends, they had banter, they communicated openly, they were classmates, they got into trouble together, they saved eachother, they pushed eachother to be better. I dare even say that, after he dated her, he became more selfless and tried to help others against his better judgement. Like when he gave up the remnants of his phoenix force to save Jubilee and re-store her mutant powers.

And their interactions are all bittersweet, because there still are feelings there, undiscloused desires? Mayhaps.

This last one is the least incendiary relationship (when we don't take into account their possible futures) but the healthiest, because the relationship does not radicate in humiliation and denial, I'mma be honest.

“How dare he! How dare he say that I am too immature and that’s why the relationship ended.” Y/N spoke to her friend Olivia who was sitting down beside where she was standing.

The girl had moved back to Cincinnati over eight months ago, her and josh had been broken up for a little over a year now. He had already moved on, seeing as he had made the news with an actress.

“Actually he said that he dated a lot of immature girls and that’s why he’ll never date someone younger than him again.” Olivia corrected Y/N as she gave the girl a look.

“I’m going to kill him.” Y/N grumbled as she plopped down on the couch.

“Woah, who’s going to face the wrath of Y/N today?” Joe burrow asked as he walked into the living room and gave Olivia a kiss before placing his bag down. Ja’Marr, Tee, Logan, Sam, and Tyler made their way in after him.

“Josh, that’s who.” Olivia spoke up knowing that Y/N was in distress right now. “Trying to ruin her reputation.”

Y/N huffed at what Olivia told the guys before glancing around at the Bengals players. “I’m pissed, but maybe it’s because I’m too immature.” She mocked, throwing her head back. “That dick acts like I was ten years younger than him. I’m 24, and he’s 26.” Y/N then turned to Logan who she knew had played college ball with Josh. "Did he ever try to ruin any of his other ex's?"

Logan shrugged not really knowing what to say. He had played with Josh in Wyoming, but was unsure about much else concerning his love life. What the guys did know was that Y/N was far from immature and everyone on the team loved her, the significant others included.

"He's just mad because he lost the best girl he ever had." Tee spoke up, the guys nodding in agreement.

It was no secret that Tee and Y/N were close. They were often mistaken for a couple when they were out in public together and the two had set the record straight multiple times. After Y/N moved to Ohio, Tee was the one to help her through the rough patch of healing from her break-up with Allen.

"Channel that anger into a number one hit and put him in his place." Sam suggested as he sat down on one of the chairs in the living room.

"I've already started," Y/N mumbled getting all the attention on her. Usually she shared her songs with Tee or Olivia. This one had been kept secret because she wasn't sure how she felt about it. "I don't know how I feel about because I wrote it about Josh and then one of my songwriting friends wrote one part and it doesn't even match him."

Olivia gave Joe a knowing look before he nodded and left the living room, returning with a guitar that Y/n had accidentally left. "You are not leaving this house until you give us a snippet." Olivia spoke sternly while Joe placed the guitar in Y/N's lap.

The girl rolled her eyes before gesturing for everyone to sit down, tee making sure to sit next to her, she opened up her phone and ran over the lyrics quickly. "you know what they say, you can't help who you fall for. And you and I fell like an early spring snow, but reality crept in, you said we're too different. You laughed at my dreams, rolled your eyes at my jokes. Mr. Superior thinkin' do you have all the space that you need? I don't have to be your shrink to know that you'll never be happy and I bet you think about me."

"That'll do it." Logan spoke before letting out a laugh. Y/N rolled her eyes and sat the guitar down on the coffee table.

"I bet you think about me, is the name of the song." Y/N mumbled before standing up, "I think I'm going to go. I have to record a podcast episode tomorrow and I need to get ready for that."

"I'll walk you out." Tee offered as Y/N told their friends bye.

Y/N collected her stuff before going to slip on her shoes. She and tee slipped out of the Burrow household and made their way to her Toyota. She carefully put her items in the backseat before turning to face her best friend.

“I, uh, I just wanted to tell you that I’m fully over Josh.” She spoke up her gaze locking on the guy she has liked for the past five months. “You’ve helped me through everything and I just didn’t want you to think that it was all for nothing. I just worry about my jobs and such.”

Tee nodded, “I know.” He assured her. He quickly opened her car door once he realized she was going to open it. “Do you want company tomorrow?”

A grin made its way onto Y/N’s face, “I’d like that.”

“Yeah?” He asked. His own smile growing in his face. Y/N nodded before biting her lip. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“See you, Tamaurice.” Y/N replied causing the man to groan.

“Really, why you gotta use my full name.” Y/N just smirked before getting in her car and slowly pulling out of the drive to head towards her house.

"What's your take on the whole "every NFL player cheats on their significant other" thought process?" Y/N asked as she sat across from one of her friends, Allison Kuch. Her husband had previously played for the Cleveland browns and that was how the two girls had gotten close.

"I hate it." She laughed as she glanced at the two guys sitting behind the camera. Isaac was sitting next to Tee as the girls recorded Y/N's podcast episode. "I don't particularly think that the NFL would make someone cheat."

"Right." Y/N nodded, "If they are gonna cheat then they will no matter their job." Y/N finished.

"I read many articles about that being your case and I was like.. that doesn't sound right. I think it's funny how the media takes things and runs with it." Allison spoke into the microphone.

Y/N let out a small huff before nodding her head, "yeah, they do. I remember when the news hit that Josh and I broke up, which we had been broken up for two months before media and fans put it together. There were articles saying I was out with another guy in New York and then there were some saying Josh was hanging out with his ex and others. It was definitely many lies being told." Y/N agreed before moving onto the next question.

"I have a question for you, actually." Allison spoke up gaining the attention of Y/N. "Do you think that Josh ruined any plans to ever get with a professional athlete again?"

The question had gained the attention of Tee who was talking to Isaac about the upcoming football season. Y/N let out a nervous laugh, "Uh, no. I mean, the whole immature jab was hurtful but if you have bitter ex's then." Y/N shrugged not knowing how to continue that sentence. "My thought process is that one guy does not define the entire population. Josh does not define the NFL men population, you know?"

Allison nodded before the two carried on with the episode and eventually called it quits. After the podcast was over, Allison and Isaac had told the two goodbye and left to head back to their hotel. Tee was helping Y/N pick up her podcast room and get her equipment situated before they had shut the lights off and closed the door.

"You hungry? I was thinking about making dinner." Y/N mumbled as she walked into her kitchen and leaned back against the counter. She was trying to think of what to make that sounded good to her. Truth be told, since her break-up she hadn't been eating as much which was causing her to lose weight.

"I'm good with whatever." Tee shrugged as he came to a stop in front of her and leaned against the island. "Does it bother you that people ask about Josh?"

The girl in front of him shrugged, "Not really. He's part of my past and people want to know, and I think talking about it can be healing." she explained thinking about her past with the NFL quarterback. "Does it bother you that people ask about him?"

Tee was taken back by that question. He was not expecting to have her reconcile that question back to him. "A little, maybe." He muttered not knowing how she would take the new information.

Y/N nodded, the butterflies swarming in her stomach. "Can I play you a song that I've been working on?" she asked almost shyly. It was strange for her not to be outgoing around him. He had been her best friend for almost a year now and she had never cowered under him.

"Course." Tee agreed as he followed Y/N to her living room. She had her guitar, notebook, and pen laid out neatly on her coffee table.

Y/N picked up her guitar once they got situated on the couch and started the chords for the song. It was an upbeat song which she would have to give him an idea of what the acoustic would sound like. "we kept everything professional, but something's changed, it's somethin' I like. They keep watchful eyes on us, so it's best that we move fast and keep quiet. You won't believe half the things I see inside my head, wait 'til you see half the things that haven't happened, yet." She sang carefully.

Her eyes stayed on the notepad as she sang, scared to see her best friend's reaction. "but what would you do, if I went to touch you now? What would you do if they never found us out? what would you do if we never made a sound? Cause I can see you waitin' down the hall for me, I can see you up against the wall with me, and what would you do? baby if you only knew. That I can see you, throw your jacket on the floor, I can see you make me want you even more, what would you do, baby if you only knew. That I can see you." She finished singing the snippet of her almost finished song.

Y/N carefully laid her guitar back in its previous spot and turned towards her best friend. "What do you think?" she asked nervously.

The Bengal's wide receiver nodded, "it's great." He told the girl his honest opinion. "Did someone inspire it or was it one of those late-night thoughts you get?"

"You, inspired it." Y/n mumbled knowing that it was now or never to get her feelings out there. She wanted to tell him before he met someone else and did not have the chance for him to see her like that. Tee stared at her for a good couple of minutes unknowing what to say. "Can you please say something?" she asked after the long silence. Her stomach was churning from nerves.

"You wrote a sexual song about me?"

"Now you make it sound horrible." Y/n muttered as she stood up trying to ease her stomach. The bile was slowly rising in her throat and she was unsure of how to take back what she had just said. "It's fine that you don't feel the same way, really. We can forget that I ever said anything."

"We could," Tee spoke as he stood up, causing Y/N's throat to burn even more. "Or we could make your song a reality..." he trailed. Y/n froze on the spot, her churning stomach coming to a halt as she felt relief flood her body. "What was it again?" He asked pretending to think. "I can see you up against the wall with me?" he asked. Y/N nodded unsure of his next move.

Without warning, he lifted her up by her thighs and placed then around his toned waist and carefully walked them backwards until her back hit the hallway wall. Y/n's heart was beating in her chest, her stomach was fluttering. The girl raised her eyes up to meet his brown ones, the closeness of them making her yearn for him. "You feel the same way?" she mumbled not sure what to say as her hands landed on the back of his neck. His braids tickled her knuckles a bit, but it was a feeling she loved.

Instead of answering, he carefully leaned closer and locked lips with the girl he had wanted since he met her. It was everything that they had both expected and even more than what they were expecting.

*About a year and some months later* (I guess around this 2023 season)

The last year had been going great for Y/N, she had her man that she was in love with, she had a successful album which consisted of her single about Josh and the one about Tee, and better yet, her relationship had been kept private for the most part.

The game had not gone as expected, many thought that the Raven's would lose but it turned out to be a loss for the Bengals. Y/N was still extremely proud of Tee, he had gotten 12 of the 24 points that they had made. Fans were leaving the stadium, most wearing Bengals gear, while some were in Raven's gear.

"Hi," a voice stopped Y/N as she was starting to head towards the Bengals locker room. "Can I get a picture?" The younger girl asked holding out her phone. Y/N gave the girl a smile and nodded before bending down to her level and getting a picture of the two. "Thank you. I really like you being friends with the Bengals, my dad makes me wear a raven's jersey because my mom likes Joe burrow."

Y/N gave the little girl a small smile, "well, I'll make sure to tell Joe and the team all about you." she said softly before she felt a presence beside of her. "It was nice to meet you."

"You too, thank you to much!" the fan replied before running off to find her family.

Y/N stood up and turned around to be met with Olivia who was probably heading to wait for Joe. Both girls headed towards the locker room and stopped outside when they could hear Zac Taylor’s voice. He was ranting while also trying to encourage them not to give up. It was obvious to Y/N that he was trying to get onto the team while keeping their hopes high.

Pretty soon after coach was done ranting, the boys started walking out talking amongst themselves. “Hey you.” Y/N greeted Tee softly once she seen him and pushed herself off the wall. “You did good out there.”

“Coulda been better.” Tee shrugged as his arms went to wrap around her waist.

“Hey!” Y/N scolded slightly. “12 points is still amazing.” She assured, her hands locking around his neck.

Tee gave her a small smile and pulled her into him. Their season was starting out horrible, and every single one of them hated it. Y/N squeezed her boyfriend before pulling back a bit, "You ready to get out of here?" she asked softly a twinkling in her eye that Tee had caught.

I read your post on Logan and the blame/hate he gets from the playerbase because of what happened with DE and I just wanted to say that, while playing, I understood why his relationship with DE suffered so much. I judged him for his decision, but I still liked him as a character. He was very human.

After reading the book myself, however, I've realized that any ill emotions I had towards him immediately shifted to Jennah herself.

She's been shown to be strong and calculating over and over again. She put an illusion on all of Ebonhawke to trick Kralkatorikk's minions and it was so strong that no one realized what was happening until she lifted the illusion and explained herself.

There was absolutely NO reason to call Logan to her. She would have been 100% fine.

It's not super clear if she was truly aware what he was doing at the time (aka literally about to fight Kralkatorikk), but their bond seems to be a lot more magical so... could Logan have not gone had he chosen to remain? Did he even have a real choice?

The book really changed my perspective of queen Jennah tbh. I've developed some nasty feelings about her.

Simultaneously, my feelings on Logan went somewhat into pity. No matter what would have happened on that day, what he would have chosen, he would have been ostracized by one side or the other.

Ngl that's a pretty common perspective a lot of people have, but I just don't see it. Let me explain.

Firstly, Jennah couldn't have cast that illusion without a lot of time and preparation - just looking into Kralkatorrik's mind nearly undid her. Logan being there bought her enough time to actually save what remained of Ebonhawke, and iirc she needed to draw from Anise's power as well to be able to cast it. That was a team victory, not a solo party. She would NOT have been fine without Logan - Branded hyenas had already killed Dylan, who was the only guard at the tower Jennah was in, and would have gotten in quite quickly.

(Something similar went down in S3 when she put a shield over the entirety of Divinity's Reach, which a lot of people interpret as her Just Being That Powerful. But it's clearly stated that 1) those spells were prepared WELL in advance, 2) with the help of some of the Shining Blade's best mesmers. All Jennah actually did was activate the spells.)

Jennah is a queen. You don't have a queen without a council of advisors, assistants, etc. You don't have a kingdom without people to delegate to. You don't have authority without the good will of the people - which can be pressed far but is not unlimited. Jennah knows all this.

She bonded Logan in part because she wanted a hero, and in part because she needed someone she could trust outside the politics of Kryta. If she were truly as powerful as to cast these spells by herself, she wouldn't really need Logan, nor have any reason go bond him outside of her own attraction to him. Now she IS powerful, no doubt - able to kill off assassins with a snap of her fingers. But she's not ALL-powerful.

As for whether Logan had free choice, that's a common question... but I do think he did. Jennah didn't make that magical bond until AFTER he'd (voluntarily!) sworn to come whenever she called. She wanted to be able to call him if needed - not summon him against his will. Also, if the summons was against his will, I don't see how he could have done anything else WITHIN his will while he was in Ebonhawke.

He was making assessments, analyses, and decisions from the moment he arrived - "the queen is currently safe, but the courtyard needs a better defense. We have charr prisoners that I'm uniquely situated to try to recruit," etc. He didn't arrive and go "gosh golly gee! How did I get here?? I'm supposed to be fighting Kralkatorrik!"

Jennah hadn't thought to recruit the charr prisoners - she had no friendliness to them until after they helped fight. That was Logan's decision given his history with Rytlock, and showed Jennah how valuable a treaty with the charr would be since the dragons were rising.

You can't have both "Logan was mind-controlled to come" and also "Logan was making his own decisions" at the same time.

But you're absolutely right: no matter what decision Logan made when Jennah called, come or stay, there would have been disaster. We saw what happened when he went: DE split up, Kralk alive, Jennah safe.

If he'd stayed, Jennah would have died and we'd have Caudecus and the Ministry in charge; Ebonhawke would be a Branded city; humans and charr would still be at war; Kryta would fall apart. If anyone knew Logan could have helped, he'd be blamed for most of that. But Kralkatorrik would be dead, the first Elder Dragon to fall, and the hope that that would put into the hearts of all Tyrians would be massive. Destiny's Edge would still be together, Snaff would be alive, and they'd be capable of trying the next Elder Dragon.

I don't think the narrative gave him a right choice.

Logan was doomed to make a wrong choice no matter what he did. I don't think he OR Jennah were at fault.

And I think that tells a story about us a lot of the time; we're faced with impossible choices and have to make the best of it. What matters is less the choice we make but how we handle it afterwards... and also, how do we treat our friends when they're in similar situations? Are we going to be like Rytlock and ruin the friendship over it, or can we be like Caithe and try to forgive and move on?

Thanks for the ask, as you can tell I love this subject, especially when it's not just This Side versus That Side but rather a nuanced, thoughtful conversation on the problems at hand. Logan's story is deliberately kept a complex topic to grapple with. "What if I did it differently" is, as you said, an incredibly human doubt to grapple with. I think Logan approaches it very maturely by concluding it was a bad choice no matter what: someone would have died.

Storm and Wolverine?

Ah, well. This is one of those pairings that I've always wanted to like more than I actually do.

It's kind of funny because a hundred years ago, when Marvel indicated that they were going the Storm/T'Challa route, I wasn't really on board. I didn't like the idea of Storm going off to some solo book rather than staying in a position of prominence with the X-Men. I even thought, at the time, that she should date someone like Logan instead. (In retrospect, Storm/T'Challa was a pretty great pairing and I'm always happy when they revisit them.)

And to be fair, the times that Ororo and Logan got together, I thought were well-written and very enjoyable.

But for me, the problem is Logan.

I like Logan, a lot of the times. More than tends to come across on this blog, where I spend a lot of time bitching about him or making fun of him. But this is going to be another time when I bitch about him. Sorry.

The thing is, Logan has always been one of those rough around the edges characters, who acts like a jerk, threatens violence unnecessarily (including to civilians, women and children), and I never really feel like the characters get to react to that the way they should.

Ororo Munroe is one of the most moral characters in the X-Men. Kurt Wagner is also one of the most moral characters in the X-Men. Both are very close friends with Logan, and to be honest, the comic book writers have very rarely made any real attempt to show us WHY.

It's like, if Storm likes him, if Kurt likes him, then he's clearly got a moral core and a sense of honor and is not the awful, uncouth, violent man that he presents himself as. And thus, we don't really have to SHOW that.

To be fair, there are plenty of Logan comics where he DOES show his hidden sense of honor and morality. But I still feel like there should be a little more conflict with what Logan prefers to present to the world and these characters. It really does tend to get tedious when someone else, often Cyclops in the earlier comics, would be all "Logan's so uncontrollably violent and hard to deal with." And Storm would reply "Logan is a much more noble and honorable character than you or anyone appreciates." When and where, Ororo? Please cite your sources!

So yeah, while I don't hate the pairing as presented, a part of me always sees it more as a reinforcement of that idea that Logan doesn't HAVE to be a better person as long as objectively better, more moral characters sing his praises.

(Like, take the time when the O5 were brought to the modern day. Logan literally stands there, with his claws pointed at a CHILD, telling a crowd that they could kill him now and get Xavier back. And, okay, Storm does tell him to stop. But I really feel like threatening a child in front of her should be at least a temporary obstacle to them sleeping together!)

The other issue, of course, is that so many writers refuse to move on from the Scott/Jean/Logan love triangle. And the uneven writing on Krakoa didn't really help.

Oddly, when presented as a throuple, it doesn't bother me as much. It's pretty clearly Scott-and-Jean as a unit, with Logan occasionally invited to take part. Logan might occasionally sleep with one or the other without the third, but that's just part of the whole deal.

But then you have the later period. And it might not be Percy's fault. It wouldn't surprise me if the writers were told to downplay/nix the throuple idea. But then you have a repeated refrain about Jean, Xavier and Jean, maybe Xavier, Jean, Quentin and Sage representing Logan's deep found family.

And, well...where is Storm? Where is Kitty? Where is Kurt? Where is Scott?

Admittedly, it's been a while since Logan has even mentioned Jean. He hasn't mentioned her being in space or being the Phoenix. Maybe he really has moved on.

Until some other writer decides he hasn't.

And do I really want Storm to be in a relationship with someone who is that obsessively infatuated with someone else?

Polyamory is all well and good, but I feel that Storm is the sort of woman who would not be happy coming second in someone's heart. (Unless it's to Wakanda or duty.)

I've been binging succession and I just got to Connor's wedding episode and something I haven't really seen people on this website talk about is how good the show is at depicting how... difficult it is to have a toxic parent, well into your adulthood. I've talked to my therapist about this a lot, but the hardest thing about having a toxic parent is no matter how much they hurt you, and no matter how much you hate them and resent them, you still love them. But it's not a mature love, because at a certain point, your love for that kind of person can't really grow. So the love you have for them is only the love you had for them as a child. And no matter how old you get and no matter how much you grow and do the work to overcome the trauma, there's moments of desperation where you just turn back into a child who will do anything to make their parent love them. I often think about how I will feel, how I'll react when my parents die. I've already spent most of my adulthood mourning my childhood, and the fact that although my parents were physically present in my life, they were emotionally absent at best and abusive at worst. A toxic parent's love is categorically NOT unconditional: every "I love you" is accompanied with a "but." But your love for them IS unconditional; it never goes away, no matter what. You are always waiting, ready to embrace them the moment they decide to really be a parent for once. I'm still working through my trauma, so I don't know if there's a point when you finally lose hope in that happening, but so far it's still there. I don't know if I will ever be able to have a real, somewhat "normal" relationship with my parents, even if they do own up to their shit and start to actually fucking change. How do you start to have a parent-child relationship when the child is not a child anymore, and spent their entire childhood without the nurturing a parent is supposed to give?

Anyway, the Roy kids are all terrible human beings, but I see a lot of myself in their relationship with Logan. I see how my life could have been if I hadn't walked away from my toxic parents. I see my older sister, who is too afraid of the unknown to truly step back and start to work on her own trauma, and is already perpetuating the cycle with her own kids (though she denies it). I see the work that I still have to do, especially if I want to have my own kids someday.

so i've finally finished Succession. i've been asked for my thoughts, so here they are in no particular order:

season 1 is one of the single greatest seasons of a tv show i've ever seen. brilliant. no criticisms.

seasons 2-4 gave me war flashbacks from my former life as a deal closer. i started to get really irritated by the whiplash and confusion of it all. i know better than a lot of people how fickle business deals are, but in a narrative format it started to bore me.

my main criticism which is not actually a criticism is that i would have liked to see clearer character arcs. the reason it's not a criticism is because character growth and deterioration is not the work of the show. the show exposes an endless cycle. so i get it. but that doesn't mean i like it.

extremely disappointed that roman/gerri just kind of fell to the wayside after a lot of promise. their relationship was by far my favorite aspect of the show, and it made me sad to see it get tossed aside for even more of what the story had already been doing.

lukas was probably my favorite character. sorry but i'm just always going to love a guy who's like, "i keep mailing her my blood. why doesn't she like me back? :("

i have no specific ideas, but if i *were* to write fic, it would be lukas/shiv. he's just so eager for her to step on him. there's something very fucky going on about his attraction to her as a person vs. repulsion of her as a business ally. there's a lot there about latent or even outright misogyny.

in the "controlling the narrative" BTS of the final episode (btw it's interesting they call it "controlling the narrative" - that's just a weird thing to say on a craft level), the director was like "we always knew it was going to be a tragedy. a good tragedy is in its inevitability." but...i never really saw that inevitability? the deal flopped back and forth so many times i didn't know whether i was rooting for them to sell waystar or keep it. i didn't know which sibling i was rooting for to take over the company, or even if that was a good thing? the director mentioned the climax as "seeing their true colors" but the whole point of the show, to me, was about the nuance of people. forcing the three siblings to just attack each other at the end felt a little cheap to me.

don't get me wrong, i love a good inevitable, true-color-revealing tragedy. i love king lear and all of the other shakespearean influences. but by the end it had veered so far away from those influences that suddenly yanking us back to them felt disingenuous. how can i be made sad by the failure of something i wasn't sure i wanted to happen anyway??

i really, really hated tom and greg's relationship. i love the potential it had and how a fanwriter might pick it up and play with it, but as it stood, it just took the bit too far too often. i can only bear so much power playing for comedic effect. again, i see the shakespearean rosenkrantz and guildenstern of it, but after four seasons i would have liked to see it change, grow, do anything other than the "am i supposed to laugh at this?" sort of abuse.

it made me think a lot about what it means to be great but not good, and witnessing the personal side of history-making people. that's why i read so many biographies, so seeing that same work in fiction was very fascinating. shiv refers to logan as a "world of a father" and that comes across so clearly. i think it's very difficult developing greatness in characters while also being able to dig inside them and pull out what's real.

the sibling dynamic. *so* sibling-y. i can't tell you how many times i thought, "thank god my family is too poor to have any assets to fight over." it's hard to say who i would become with that kind of wealth, but as it stands i can't imagine wanting anything so badly i would destroy my relationship with my sister over it.

i liked the depiction of the way logan chooses and changes favorites, and puts the kids in competition with each other. he seems to only have love for one of them at a time. i really, really relate to how it feels to be like, "i get to hold the love today" and then it gets taken away the next day for no reason.

overall though, truly iconic characters and character work. the performances were phenomenal. the direction, production--all fantastic.

tl;dr i think Succession is a brilliant show, and one of the most well-crafted of this century. but it disappointed me in many ways and went in directions that led me to exhaustion rather than catharsis. if it was meant to be a tragedy, i wasn't saddened by the end. i was just tired.

I’ve always disliked the idea that Rory was a pick me girl, most often not people use her conversation with Tristan of all people to prove that she is by using ‘substance’ line. A pick me girl is a girl who will tear down other women for the sake of male validation. Rory doesn’t do that, she especially doesn’t want Tristan’s attention or validation. If anything, she has a not like other girls' mentality, but whose surprised when her mother and town feed into that. That being said, Rory is incredibly cruel to other women, but it's not for male validation It's because she's judgmental just like Lorelei and Emily, it's a trait they all have in common.

I would agree that Rory does not tear other women down for male validation. She doesn't really care much about male validation in general (the Logan Era might be a slight exception, but Logan is a SPECIFIC guy, and there were other things going into that psychologically for Rory SPECIFICALLY) and would be insulted by the mere idea, haha. In the show, there are boys that like her, because she's the main character of a TV show, but she doesn't usually seek them out. Once she's in a RELATIONSHIP, she does tend to seek approval, but that's because she's a People Pleaser IN GENERAL, not because her boyfriends happen to be Male...

As far as the "not like other girls" thing goes... *sigh* Ok, look. Haha. These conversations are awkward for me, because you probably would have accused ME of being "not like other girls" in highschool. And this RANKLES me, haha! Because I did not put myself in that category. It was the "other girls" who decided I was "not like them," you know? And I guess I wasn't! But WHY should that be shameful?! And my misfit friends and I were probably a bit insufferable about it sometimes when we were teenagers, but that is a defense mechanism. You get told "You're weird" enough times, and you start saying, "Well maybe being Weird is a good thing! Maybe it's BETTER!" And if that's "problematic," shouldn't expecting girls to be "JUST like Other Girls" be problematic too? I just don't think the burden to "support all Women! And don't you dare criticize any of them ever!" should be placed on the girls who got REJECTED by the "other girls!" It just starts sounding like "Conform! Or else you must Hate Women!" "Women" are not all the same! And we shouldn't HAVE to be! I don't think girls should be obligated to like every other girl. Do we expect boys to like every other boy?

ANYWAY, I'm sorry, I'm getting way off track now. 😅 Here's the thing: Rory WASN'T "like other girls." She likes reading and studying and listening to weird music, AND THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT! Why is there something wrong with that?? And I know from experience that liking those things generally didn't make you really popular in school! Rory's classmates think she's weird! And she's not heartbroken about it, because she LIKES WHAT SHE LIKES, and if she thinks her interests are "better," isn't that kind of... Human and natural? Especially for a teenager? I just don't consider that a "red flag" or a character flaw, sorry! My goodness, can't I have ONE girl main character of a teen show who was a bit of a misfit instead of a "cool girl?" (I know I'm probably exaggerating, but Rory was one of the only tv characters I could actually RELATE to as a teenager! 😅😭) Should she have to apologize for it?

Anyway, I also would not say that Rory is "incredibly cruel to other women." I mean, this is the girl who went to her highschool MEAN GIRL BULLY and basically said, "If you're going through something, you can talk to me"!!! Like, that is going ABOVE AND BEYOND, haha! Is she perfect? NO! She's not perfect! Sometimes she's in a bad mood, or gets jealous or bitter! It's not great! Neither Shane nor Lindsay deserved her jealous sniping! (And I think Rory, in hindsight, would probably agree! Rory only had nice things to say about Lindsay before Season 4 anyway) She messed up! I have occasionally said things I regret saying also! And when she wrote the critique of the ballet, it was in the specific context of being asked to be more ruthless by her Editor. So she was ruthless. And felt uncomfortable about it later! But "incredibly cruel?" Rory's INCREDIBLY cruel? When there are characters like Blair Waldorf or even, in this very show, Paris Geller??? I just... don't see it!
