a rough basic idea for a centaur character i have had floating around in my head for a long time, it doesnt fit with my main OC world but wouldnt call this another project bc its literally just "what if centaurs bc centaurs kinda cool" with little story or worldbuilding other than its all centaurs lol

(the only background is really a vaguely noble couple wanting to hire a new soldier/guard after their previous one is retiring but not being able to afford any highly valued ones (build, color, training- the kind of things horses are often priced with) so they opt for the cheapest to hire they can find which is this enormous draft centaur (vaguely based on the blue roan coat type) that no one wants bc he doesnt talk and never really responds otherwise to being talked to (so he dumb haha (he isnt)- to be clear he DOES what he is told but he doesnt like, sign an ok, he just "stares" and then wordlessly does it), doesnt have any well known parents and is too big to fit comfortably in most buildings, also a little unkept (mostly just in his fur looking pretty rough, not caring much for treating scratches etc- though its not that clear in this sketch)

over time said couple both falling for him, completely seperately/not aware the other also has, bc they actually started to get to know him instead of just going with what he was "sold" as and treating him accordingly (badly)- leading to him being caught in a very awkward "triangle" he doesnt know what to do with and just goes along with everything (hes very calm and stone faced in public but privately socially awkward, always been extremely lonely/isolated and never had to deal with any sort of interest in him as a person instead of just how much he can pull/work until collapsing)

The way Hosea talks about Bessie is genuinely one of the sweetest things ever I just. How fondly he still reminisces about her, how dearly he holds her memory. From areas that remind him of her to little things like playing dominoes with Arthur, she’s always on his mind. He left the gang for her and it didn’t last but he did leave, he tried to live a normal life for her, and she understood when he drifted back into things. Even with his approaching death, he’s worried that he won’t get to see her again, that she’s gone to heaven and he won’t end up there with her, and even still he says he’s ready for his own death. He loved her and he still loves her and he loves her until his death does find him. Every time he talks about her you can just feel all of that love he still has for her and it makes me so emotional. I post about my opinions on shipping culture every other week so im going to share one of the latest ones, but tldr is i find both terms of pro and antishipping reductive and meaningless in the grand scheme of media analysis outside fandom infighting, which in itself is not very meaningful either. Sorry if this is an annoying or pretentious take but it's been my opinion for a long time. I find it a fascinating topic how fiction can affect reality through the messages and ideas inbedded by the author but not only, also the power of the fans who can change the perception of the work. I'll try to get back on track to the original question... there can be patterns indicative of an individual's personality and morals through the media they frequently engage with and by extension ships they like, and if you mainly engage with loli incest because you consider it hot then like. Thats offputting and i will be avoiding that personally. But i dont agree with policing what type of media can exist and which relationships are okay to explore and push to get an interesting character or story, or what certain relationships can mean to individuals. I will never stop people from engaging with things in a way i dont personally agree with, so nowadays i subscribe to the age old "dont like dont look" mindset, but i also question why im uncomfortable with certain depictions when i encounter them to better understand myself and maybe even the other person.

I hope this made sense? It's a topic i think there can be a lot said and im afraid i cant give a yes/no answer when i find both sides are limiting compared to my actual beliefs about engaging with media (i hate calling it media, i wish to call it art, but i fear thatll make me sound more pretentious if i refer to the games or shows i like as art considering their reputation...) I end up making fun of the labels especially when theyre used as character descriptors when theyre very situational... i dont think someone in a fantasy world would have the same mental framework about relationships as an internet user engaged in shipping wars. Thats what my post was about, since i think this ask was a result of that tag, just poking fun at fandom culture as i tend to do^_^
