local coffee shop exists; i go there from time to time

local coffee shop is very proud of their in-house roasted coffee (normal)

i am a coffee wanker, but am willing to drink a lot of different types of coffee. i have had coffee from 100+ roasters (written down! i have records!) in the last 5 years. i have bailed on one bag of beans in that duration (sorry, furry roasters; you weren't very good).

local coffee shop is firmly at the bottom of that list

once a year, i ask myself if i'm wrong about them, i get a latte, and i say 'damn, this fucking sucks'

their pastries are really, really, really good though

i have seen other people go to the adjacent-ish other coffee place, get coffee, and then go to Local Coffee Shop to get pastries, so i'm not alone in this viewpoint, i think.

did this as a quick scribble at like 1 AM last night and...immediately lost all motivation to ever clean it up. ( ᐛ ) but I had to draw my son being the fanciest little flower boy who ever threw petals down an aisle. oh my god.

I know some people think that Emily's desire to play another character instead of Fig was the reason why she was so all over the place and lost, especially in the first half of JY.

But I honestly feel like her arc was actually incredibly needed and necessary to close her character evolution in a satisfying way. (While still leaving open doors for possible future plots with the Dawn and Sandra Lynn stuff)

Fig has been struggling to find herself since the first moment. She has had to come to terms with being a completely different race than what she thought before and deal with all the consequences of that. She had to grow out of the toxic habits that were born out of her deeply rooted insecurities that finding out about her identity and lineage caused. She had to learn to be kinder to herself. I love sophomore year, it's my favorite season for so many reasons, but I feel like Fig's arc in JY was actually her best one.

Fig being so lonely at the start of the show and her innate devotion made her becoming so focused on holding others' needs over her own an inevitability. She was always aimlessly moving through life, so talented and gifted in many ways but with no real purpose outside of being the protector.

The way JY explored her struggles with introspection and her need to devote herself to others to such an extent that she ignored a curse on herself for far too long was beautiful.

Finding Ankarna, becoming a paladin of dawn and justice and coming to a point where she could let herself choose what felt right instead of what her friends needed was incredible to watch.

I feel like Junior Year gets a lot of criticism because the overall vibe from the IH was lighter and they were having a lot of fun throughout, but the story of the season was actually beautiful to me and the overall character work was so interesting.

#when it comes to characters' arc i feel like fig gorgug and kristen took the cake in jy and they did the work wonderfully #i have already talked abt how much i get kristen and how i get her journe even tho it is frustrating to witness #fig and kristen both needed wake up calls to understand where they wanted to go with their life #and i love how they found growth while walking on a somewhat parallel track with their married goddesses #i could talk about the IH characters and campaigns forever #d20 #dimension 20 #fantasy high #fhjy #fig faeth #fantasy high junior year #yapping time

Remy’s birthday is coming up on Feb. 3rd. I cannot believe. He’s going to be 4 years old. 🥺

I don’t plan to make text posts regularly or anything but I also really wanted to say ❗️thank you❗️again to everyone who has ever tagged me in anything, replied to my posts, recommended anything, or messaged me. Literally every single person who has interacted with this blog has been so considerate and kind. I haven’t needed to block anybody or reinforce any boundaries. That is huge.

#we looked into custom roomba cakes but our small town doesn’t have bakeries like that #I could try myself but I fear it would just be a lumpy grey circle #Mario cake would probably be more attainable

Once, you said Charlie sings tenor with his pub-guys-who-sing-sea-shanties. Is this like a Port Isaac's Fisherman's Friends level of thing, or is this a hobby that's widespread enough in the UK that he's on a more amateur level?

(in reference to Killie the jockey OC's horseless brother Charlie and this post.)

Charlie’s neatly-trained-but-insufferably-twee warm tenor voice is very portable, and costs nothing but his dignity to use. Once a week he sings sea shanties down the pub with his middle-aged mates from grad school, where the baritones drown him out. That’s Thursday nights, so you can avoid it.

It’s a hobby! Charlie is by nature an eternal amateur - unless you have plot-related needs to call on a bunch of auxiliary fools and weirdos in the Killieverse for, like, a talent show. The other folks are a loose collection of people from Charlie's days in grad school and probably some tagalong boaters.

There are enough people in sufficient density in the UK for such things to coalesce regularly, although in my experience it's often in a sort of private and secretive way. you hear about them from word-of-mouth or invitation.

the actual real-life informal pub sea shanty group I knew best was actually all people living on narrowboats, who would manifest for the purpose on Thursday evenings at The Cross Guns at Avoncliff if you wanted to avoid it - except the Cross Guns, like so many boatie bastions, has now been sold. Where now are the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing? Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the ---- (gunshot)

Charlie’s admittedly bizarre decision to Get More Educated was influenced by Ken, his best friend in undergrad. Ken is a good-natured guitar-playing guy who lives on a narrowboat, who was - at the time - going on to do a PhD in geology. Ken is exactly as sweet and weird as you'd expect a geologist boatie to be; and, Charlie lacking all direction, and being lost and lazy, followed him to grad school in a panic. He applied to the same programme, bunking on the boat - he's short enough that you could just sort of park him sideways across the dinette, without even turning it into a bed; he was an absolute liability in boating life, but Ken's too chill to care much - and, like, did the chores (he's terrible at chores; but Ken is a geologist boatie) and fell into the canal a lot. It is extremely on-brand of Charlie to be so lazy and confused that he did a PhD largely by accident.

and that is how Charlie got one (1) normal friend, and what he does with him.

Anyway, Charlie and Ken and their weird mates are very annoying, with their increasingly complex and silly a capella harmonies, but no pub is going to turn away that many punters on a weeknight - and some people say they like it.

and some day they might enter a contest if you want to laugh hysterically at the idea of charlie being in a sea shanty contest.
