I can't stop thinking about the post from a few days ago about how Critical Role has been great at doing personal faith but didn't put the necessary work in to discuss the religious/god angle of c3 in-depth. Like the fact that Cardinal Respa was linked to both the Dawnfather and the Chained Oblivion is, on a personal level, very interesting (fallen/corrupted priest goes hard) but like does that mean that there's a Papacy somewhere in Exandria dedicated to the Dawnfather? If so, are there more cardinals who ordain the bishops of the Dawnfather? Are there Conclave-level intrigues going on in the Dawnfather's Sistine Chapel? Why is the Dawnfather so Christianity-coded in vibes alone if there's no actual outline of his religious organisations? With Downfall the Dawnchild/Dawnfather thing makes the allusions to Christ as Son of God co-existing with the Father textual - was there a Dawnfather Schism around whether the Dawnchild was a separate mortal? Was there a Reformation about how the Dawnfather's Pope kept selling indulgences? Is that why the priest of the Dawnfather Grog & Pike offer a drink to doesn't partake because of a cultural shift between Protestant-Temperance-League-coded and Catholic-coded Dawnfather congregations? Why do I have so many questions about the religious organisation of one of the most important Prime Deities in Exandria and to Critical Role's 3 campaigns? How on earth were the cast (and us as the viewers!) meant to care about the gods if all they had were "really tall kings" instead of interrogating how religious organisations provide both a place of healing and community to a wide range of people and also a place of horrific harm and abuse for a wide range of people?

The kids are finally here, yay. I promised I'd show you them, and I finally stopped being an asshole and followed through. Almost got 200 followers and I'm very grateful for it - really, I'm nobody. I'm just some clown who says dumb stuff and makes dumb memes and writes cringey stories, and yet I convinced almost 200 people to tune in. Thank you all so much, users on here and anons in my inbox alike. As a token of appreciation, you can all endure my rambling about my OCs and witness a person in their early 20s draw like a 12 year old.

The boy is Pepper Jack (or Pepper Jack Cookie). He's the firstborn and older than his sister by a few years. He takes after his mother in a lot of ways, primarily in her appearance (save for nabbing his father's red eyes). He's incredibly bright (and a smartass lol), preferring to think his way out of conflict rather than fight his way out... not that he's above violence at all, if that glaive doesn't give it away lol. He harbors a deep sense of love and loyalty towards his family and his peoples, and carries the weight of his responsibilities and heritage with as much confidence and poise as he can muster. (There are/will be times where he stumbles, of course. He's not perfect. He struggles a lot more than he lets on, really. But he tries his best, for everyone's sake.)

The girl is Matar Paneer (or Matar Paneer Cookie). Again, she's the younger one by a few years. She was all but made in her father's image, save for inheriting her mother's eyes. She's a little firecracker: lively and fun-loving and stubborn as a mule. She doesn't ask "can I have/do this thing", she tells you "I'm going to have/do this thing". Golden is proud as anything to see her daughter be so greedy... until that greed comes into conflict with her and Spice's authority lol. But she's a good kid, despite being such a handful. She has an enormous heart and is not afraid to stand up for others/what's right, and she loves her parents and brother more than anything in the world. She might doubt her own capabilities, she might secretly fear that she's not strong enough to do what she needs to... but she keeps pushing anyway, because she'd honestly choose death over quitting.

Your eyes are not deceiving you, Pepper Jack's wings are blue lol. There's an actual reason for that. And that USO (Unidentified Sitting Object) in Matar Paneer's hair is a lotus (the cheese one in the GCK decor set lol). There's a reason for that, too. I thought it would be cool to give Jack a glaive and swap out the normal blade for that of a khopesh sword (glaives are not Egyptian, they only saw use in Asia and Europe, but I just HAD to give him a glaive), to add that Egyptian touch. Paneer's supposed to be wearing a pattu pavadai, it's a traditional Indian dress for young girls. It's a blouse plus a skirt. She's holding katar, Indian knives (Cilantro Cobra has them, too). And her hair's supposed to be in a low ponytail.

Merchant thinks that if they explain what their terrible drawings are supposed to convey, people will understand their intended vision and the pain will stop

I sat down and did research into both Egyptian and Hindu mythology for the sake of drawing inspiration for them both. I'll explain in detail in another post, but basically: both of them take after one Egyptian god and one Hindu god each. Golden takes after Ra and Spice takes after Shiva, so I figured I'd follow along that line.

Please flood my inbox with questions about them now. I've really been dying to talk about them for ages now. I've drafted extensive character sheets for them both, I even made up in-game descriptions for them lol. They're my little fankid blorbos and I love them :') I hope you all come to love them, too

(Also, I'm sorry they're on lined paper. I'm visiting family rn and that's the only paper my grandmother has in her house. I'd have to drive to a stationery to get printer paper and I'd really rather not drive in this particular country lol (shit roads, even shittier drivers). hands down tho my favorite part of those two episodes was the taivan dine and dash sequence. why, you ask? bc that's the closest ive ever felt so far to understanding the mechanics of the magic system at play here. like that scene was so short but by GOD was it critical to the narrative.

so she is definitely a star of some kind. i mean she is an angel but in that story in particular The Stars are kind of angels. like they’re otherworldly beings and they jus kinda hang out. cosmically. it’s a different dimension separated from the human one but like, obviously stars still exist for humans, they just don’t do anything crazy because the rules of the world dictate that their realities shouldn’t interact. angels can observe the other world from far up above yet they still exist on a different level. But tbh zavijava had never enjoyed the otherworldly ethereal whatever lifestyle—she just didn’t feel like she fit in there. she is a #1 humans fan though so she knows that’s where she’d fit in. so she does just that. she fits in perfectly :) and normally :) yay :)

FEN'HAREL & THE EMERALD KNIGHTS PART II

(cont. of this, how it relates to ameridan).

while many statues of fen'harel were created in the time of the elvhenan, a great number of those scattered throughout the dales were raised in the time of the elven nation, primarily by emerald knights. they were a symbol of the order as well as of the god. anyone could leave offerings and ask for guidance at these statues, but the emerald knights used them most frequently.

the image of fen'harel the rebel works despite them believing in the evanuris as their creators, because the old dalish legends still remembered the creators as fickle, dangerous and sometimes cruel (like gods in most real life pantheons). they pray to the creators and hope for their return, but they don't believe them to be perfect. fen'harel is a necessary part of the pantheon as without him the creators can do what they want; the creators are clearly necessary as without them, the elven people fall into ruin. for those same reasons the elves of the dales do not condemn fen'harel for locking away the creators, even if they believe it caused elvhenan's downfall. he was acting according to his role in the pantheon.

fen'harel wasn't worshipped in the same sense that the creators were. his name would be invoked in battle, but they weren't asking for his divine protection, it was more a way to honour his fight (as they knew it) and indicate they were continuing it. the use of subterfuge, psychological warfare and similar tactics meant to minimize the time spent in actual open battle was known as the vir harellan, from harel the way it's used in the word mien'harel, meaning rebellion. It was taught along with the vir tanadhal as a way of conduct and strategy.

following fen'harel still set the emerald knights a little apart from the rest of dalish society. it was seen as a mark of bravery but also danger, and to some indicated that they shouldn't be crossed. some knights embraced that, enjoying the status they perceived it giving them and even the way commoners were intimidated by them, while most took a more careful approach (and this was also encouraged by those of higher rank, who had no need for the knights to be feared and wanted to keep it that way).

as fen'harel would later be invoked to protect dalish camps from malicious spirits, the fade-hunters, who protected the dales from threats from the fade, were especially drawn to him. the vir harellan involved methods for how to deal with demons, where brute force is rarely useful.

ameridan, personally, wore the vallaslin of dirthamen and was most drawn to the god of knowledge; secondly to the maker. dirthamen is no god of battle though, and before a fight ameridan sometimes did and still does invoke the name of fen'harel. sometimes it is just a thought for mental strength; sometimes it is a whisper for courage; sometimes it is a shout, as encouragement to his allies and warning to his enemies. outside the dales, he is more likely to call upon the maker, because he believes the maker has more power in lands where faith in him is strong, and vice versa with the creators.

calling his wolf companion da'harel/little dread was still seen as quite disrepectful, his superiors expected more of him, his parents are getting a call.

So we have two, contradictory messages in this game : Duma BaD and Gods BaD and must go because BaD and they "make humans do BaD things"...

and you have the "gods might be bad, but humans are still BaD without their influence" message at the end - when the entire game (and the timeline and supplementary materials!!) has been pushing the first message.

So...

In a sea of "Gods BaD" waters coming from the remake, you still have the lone "evil remains in the hearts of men" raft that is, somehow, pushed to the forefront in Part 6 where both Celica AND Alm call Thabes the result of human folly, and the player knowing that Grima - who was originally the RED CAPSLOCK eldritch monstruosity before FEH retcon'd them in a tits'n'ass character to uwu about by stealing Anankos' backstory - was "man-made".

And yet, given how the "last word" about FE15 - as in last material revealed - was the timeline in the Memorial Book, we close FE15's book by "and Duma was BaD".

I mean, look at all those mentions of Rudy being so brave and strong and uwusome -> Duma's degenaration is directly tied to how awesome Rudy needs to be in this calendar.

Maybe you should spend an hour in Skyrim, trying to get to that fuck ass fishing hut to learn how to fish better, discovering it's not in riverwood OR the place you were supposed to go next and following the marker out to the middle of nowhere, walking through the frozen mountains to a town in the middle of fuck knows where that apparently has some thief stuff going on that you don't actually have any reason to engage with yet, walking around and through it several times because the hut is not INSIDE the town but the only way to get to it is to go THROUGH the town, and then just being forced to fish some specific fish for the guy when you talk to him instead of having any actual buff increase for fishing or anything. Maybe then you'll calm down.

Elio having the same reaction father paul had when he encountered the angel but instead of thinking he's being guided through a path towards salvation by god through this angel elio believes the maker has sent solas specifically to try to tempt him into corruption/because he is the only one who can resist solas' manipulations + that way elio seeing arihs (who he actually genuinely believes was sent by andraste and does her bidding) try to beg solas to not destroy the veil and crumble down in his presence shatters elio's delusions about arihs and maybe reinforces his beliefs that he was sent here by the maker himself because even andraste's chosen wasnt able to resist solas' lies
