Back to school challenge
Uh-oh. School is starting again soon. A new year is always exciting but can also be really stressful. I've made a semi-challenge to help us get started this year. While it kinda is a challenge, most of all it's a checklist to prevent you from forgetting important things. This challenge is designed to be started 2 weeks before your first day of school. Below are some tips to help you on your way to and during the school year.
Good luck everyone!
14. What do you know and what don't you know? Make a list today of stuff you have to figure out still. It can be anything, from classroom locations to student organisations to class requirements. Write down your questions!
13. Do you know your goals? Goals are motivational, they help you focus on the bigger picture of why you're doing this! Get some goals, big and small, to start the year of with a banger! Small, short term goals are just as important as large, longer term goals that take lots of time and efford.
12. How's your closet doing this year? Check your clothing and put away stuff that doesn't fit and isn't your style anymore. Fresh clothing can help boost your mood a lot. Buy some new shirts that you like!
11. Student unions or whatever they're called for you, the unions that are sepperate from your study and are more focussed on your free time, like sport or plain parties. Do you wanna join one? Which one? This is a good last moment to decide on that, most have deadlines!
10. Today we want answers. Remember those questions? Try to see if someone can answer them for you! Use google or email, call someone or visit people and ask them for help.
9. What are you doing besides studying? Do you have a sport or hobby? Do you (want to) have a job on the side? What will you be doing for fun and just for you? 3 important questions to ask. All 3 are gonna be helping you get through your student time.
8. Networking! Do you know some of your future classmates? Get to know them, get some phone numbers and start a (group)chat! Socializing is a great way to relax and get friendly with people. Besides, people can help you when you need it!
7. Bag check, how's the bag doing? Your bag is very important, since it'll have to hold all (books, notebooks, laptop, stationary, food, etc.) your stuff. Is it sturdy? Is it waterproof? Is it large enough? Make sure to check this today!
6. If your timetable is out, make sure you have a basic understanding of it! Do you know the buildings'/classrooms' locations? Do you know what class you're in? Make sure to check on that today!
5. Check-up! Do you have to buy books and supplies still? If so, this is THE time to do so! You've got a list and know of the places to look in so get going!
4. Medic! Get a small pencil case or tin box to keep some basic medication. Painkillers, bandages, your prescription medications etc. I usually have half the selfhelp section in my tin, whoops...
3. Food and drinking is important kids! Stay hydrated! Do you have a good waterbottle or thermos? Do you know where to lunch and do you have your own lunchbox? A lunchbox and waterbottle will save your life or someone else's some day.
2. It's a fun day! A free saturday is all you'll need to have a bunch of fun with friends. Go out (or not) with some friends and enjoy eachothers company before embarking on a new adventure. Maybe your university has some great adventures enabled for you? Enjoy your free time now, the coming weeks or maybe months are going to be heavy while you figure out how to have some time for fun.
1. The final day, today we rest! You've done everything you've needed to do, all there's left to do is wait until tomorrow. So have some fun and get a good night's rest while you still can. Good luck to you, that you may not only achieve your goals but have fun and feel good while doing so.
Tips!
• Go to your lectures, not because you have to, but because you should want to. You'll get valuable information explained to you, you get to hear someone explain the dry stuff differently than how it's written so you'll have an easier time remembering and understanding the material. You've also probably paid a big sum of money for this, so make it worthwhile...
• All-nighters aren't worth it in the long run. If you must then there ain't no way around it but avoid them at all cost. Cramming like this is gonna help you forget, not remember. You might know things the day after but next week it's gonna be gone.
• Find a quiet spot to study. This might mean that your spot isn't even at home. You can't focus on your study well if you can hear your parents watching series, or your sibling playing Fortnite. Libraries and designated spots on campus can be lifesavers!
• Find a study buddy! When you go to the library to study alone the temptation to do something else is bigger than when you have someone else with you. You can motivate eachother to go and to stay focussed. Besides, your 10-minute breaks will be more fun now!
• Bag no longer or just hasn't ever been waterproof? Shoe stores sell waterproofing spray for sneakers, but you can use it on your bag as well! Save money and buy the spray instead of a new bag. The sprays meant for bags are the same substance but they often cost more, this way you save money. You can always do a second layer if you fear the spray isn't strong enough.
• Smelling nice isn't hard. Use deodorant. Shower often. Wash your clothing. Here's the real tip: put a soapbar at the bottom of a clothingpile to ensure a fresh, clean smell! Works best for socks and underwear that's inside a box or crate.
• Get a hobby. Hobbies help you relax, de-stress and maybe even develop a (new) talent. Use your hobby as a way to get out of the study lifestyle and get chillin'!
• Have a utility pack in your bag. It doesn't litarally all have to be in a pack, but have some basic stuff in there. The medkit, a hairbrush, deodorant, chewing gum, a powerbank etc. If you or someone else might need it you won't have to worry this time.
• Have a stapler. You'll get handouts, you'll have to print some packages of paper. You will be hailed a god when suddenly you have to staple some notes together.
Good luck everyone, I hope to havee helped you get started! 😊
