Rain Rituals || Z.CL

Pairing: Zhong Chenle x Reader
Genre: Comedy, fluff
Summary: Chenle's high school life was more than tedious to say the least. That is when he caught you screaming under the rain.
Warning: fluff. Comedy. Mentions of detention. Second hand embarrassment. Cliché
Wordcount: 2.8K (it's short)
A/n: please ignore my terrible editing skills and happy birthday Chenle!
Chenle was just a simple rich high school boy who, like any other student, just wants to get school and exams over with as soon as possible. He was bored of waking up everyday only for the same exact thing to happen over and over again.
Wake up. Eat. Go to school. Endure hell for 6 hours straight. Go home. Eat. Study. Sleep.
Repeat.
It was boring to say the least. Chenle wanted something to spice up his life, anything to make life more worth living. He wasn’t one to pay attention to whatever’s happening around him, he just wasn’t interested. But one faithful day, a chaotic social hazard of a Chemistry classmate of his decided to change that. Well, technically, the situation was unexpected and absolutely ludicrous for the young boy’s mind to comprehend.
It was a cold, raining evening. Chenle was just getting out of basketball practice, sweat trickling down his forehead as he slung his backpack over his shoulder. Chenle was just on his way to the parking lot, fumbling with the car keys in his hand, his uniform blazer draped over his head to prevent him from getting even more wet than he already is.
A loud scream pierced the quiet atmosphere, causing Chenle to flinch at the sudden sound. His head rapidly turned to see where the scream had come from before his eyes squinted at a blurry figure standing in the middle of the school garden.
‘What the fuck?’
Curiosity kills the cat, as they say.
Chenle went closer to the figure who let out another alarming scream, his brows furrowed in confusion as the figure became clearer and clearer with every step. The soles of his new Air Jordan’s making soft sounds as they made contact with the puddles that formed on the ground.
He leaned his head to the side when he was close enough to see the figure clearly. His eyes widened to see none other than you, the class clown of his grade. Also known as ‘That Girl Beside Me Who Wrote Three Pages Worth Of A Test Answer To Spite The Teacher’.
You were quite infamous for your extroverted demeanor. Making friends and cracking jokes left and right as if it was as simple as breathing air. Joking around and riling up teachers as if they were your closest friends.
To Chenle, you were quite peculiar.
But the sight before him was more than odd. You were standing soaking wet in the rain with your arms stretched out, your hair sticking to your forehead as you leaned your head up as if you were doing some kind of satanic ritual or religious sacrifice.
You let out another scream before groaning in frustration. “Jesus Christ!” you cursed out, kicking a puddle with your shoes as if it would do anything to make your frustrations go away.
Chenle just stood awkwardly not far behind you as he watched you throw a mini tantrum for whatever reason, his pupils dilating in concern with a frown on his lips. ‘This is just sad and embarrassing,’ he thought with a shake of his head.
The second hand embarrassment Chenle felt as he watched you push your wet hair back, letting the raindrops hit your face was almost as extravagant as the time when he watched his seniors attempt to flirt with one of his classmates.
A part of him wanted to just leave before someone (or you) catches him staring at you with a look of disappointment and sympathy. But another part of him was interested to see what you were whining on about in the middle of a heavy rain at 4:57 PM in the evening when you could be doing all this nonsense in the comforts of your own home like a normal person.
“God dammit!” you cursed once again. “Why the fuck am I single!?”
Chenle’s frown deepened when he heard those words exit your mouth. ‘Seriously?’ he thought with a click of his tongue, ‘she’s screaming out here like a lunatic all because she’s single?’
“Come on! Being single is a choice, right? I didn’t choose to be the only single one in all of my friend groups, so why the fuck am I single?” You rambled, letting out a loud groan afterwards. Chenle shook his head in disappointment, he wanted to walk away instead of looking at whatever you were doing. But yet again, he was far too entertained to even look away.
Oh God.” you clasped your hands together, intertwining your fingers and shutting your eyes tighty. “ If you can hear me up there. If you can hear me screaming my lungs out like a lunatic. Please, oh please, give me a fucking boyfriend! I think I deserved that much for being good for all my life, right?” You paused at the last part, opening an eye as if to rethink your words before you shut them tight again. “Well for the most part of it, anyways!” you added.
Chenle couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight, his arms crossing as he let out a soft laugh. ‘This is just getting really sad, I almost feel bad for her.’ he thought before looking down at his Apple Watch, eyes widened at what time it was. He turned to make a run to his car, pulling out his car keys to unlock it.
As Chenle dried himself off with the spare towel he usually keeps in the compartment box of his car, he made a mental note to himself to bring this up to you the next time he sees you. He’s sure that your reaction to him having blackmail is just going to be absolutely satisfying.
You were sitting in your desk, listening to your friend ramble about the things she did with her significant other after school the other day. A small sad smile forming on your lips as you try to listen to her conversation without feeling too sad about your pathetic, almost nonexistent, love life.
But yet again, it’s been a couple of days since you threw a tantrum at the school garden. Cursing at the sky and rain to give you a boyfriend. Only for the principal to come up to you to tell you to go home and get some rest, her expression filled with worry and concern. She probably thought you had your screws loose. And honestly, you couldn’t blame her.
You screamed till the boys at the basketball team had already gone home, your parents scolding you for being out so late in the rain. You spent two days in bed with a fever, worrying if anyone saw you acting like a delusional maniac for two hours straight. But you were relieved to see that it’s been a while since your little outburst and nobody had brought up the topic of you screaming and yelling in the middle of the rain.
Not even the janitors.
That is until you had your Chemistry class.
Your desk mate, who was none other than the infamous Chinese rich boy, Chenle came up to you with a grin spread across his face. You had never spoken to Chenle before, mostly because he was quite cute and you didn’t know what to say to someone so adorable and quiet.
You were just minding your own business, jotting down notes that your friend lent you because you couldn’t make it to school last class because of said fever. “Hey,” Chenle greeted, nodding at you as he placed his bag on his chair. You look up in surprise, eyes widening slightly at the fact that Chenle was actually talking to you and starting a conversation with you.
“Hi?” your throat was dry as your mind went blank, trying to use your extrovert powers to desperately try to come up with something to keep the conversation going. “What’s up?” you added, looking down at your notebook as you continued jotting down notes. Chenle sat on his chair, staring at you with a suspicious smirk spread across his lips.
“Can I ask you something?”
You hummed a small ‘yes’ under your breath, eyes scanning your notes.
“You have to answer it truthfully, though.”
You replied with another small hum, nodding slightly.
“Were you that girl screaming like a lunatic in the middle of the rain the other day?” he asked with a casual hum. His words made your hand stop writing, your eyes going wide as you felt your heart almost stop beating. ‘Shit. Oh god. Oh Dear God, no. You can’t do this to me,’ you thought with a nervous bite of your lip.
You attempted to shrug it off casually, keeping an emotionless expression as you continued writing on your notebook. “What? I don’t know what you’re talking about,” you responded, feeling your heartbeat nervously against your chest. Chenle’s smirk widened at the way you gulped nervously and avoided eye contact when he brought it up.
“You sure? I’m pretty sure I saw you kicking and stomping puddles the other day, cursing and what-not,” Chenle taunted, watching as your hand weakened their grip on your pen. You cleared your throat, “again, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Really? You sure you weren’t the girl who screamed ‘Dear God, give me a damn boyfriend already?!’ in the middle of the school garden like some kind of deranged maniac?”
“You saw that?!” you gasped, your head shooting up to glare at him with wide eyes. You then cupped your mouth when you realised you accidentally gave yourself away. Chenle let out a laugh, pointing a finger at your reaction. “Called it! So you were the girl doing a satanic ritual the other day!” he exclaimed, an amused smile playing at his lips.
You frowned, rolling your eyes as you looked back down at your paper. “Shut up, Zhong Chenle,” you grumbled with a small pout on your lips. “Come on, Y/n. What the hell happened to make you go all bat-shit crazy like that? I mean, not gonna lie it was quite amusing, you should definitely do it again,” he chuckled, leaning his chin against his hand, his elbow propped up on his desk.
You gave an exasperated sigh, looking up at him with a tired expression. “God I wished I took a video of it. Sadly, my phone ran out of battery at that time,” he added with an innocent smile. “You done? I get it, I publicly embarrassed myself. Is there anything you would like to add to that?” Your lips twitched in annoyance when Chenle took a moment to actually think of an answer.
“Give me a minute,” he hummed.
“That was a rhetorical question,” you frowned.
“I publicly embarrass myself on a daily basis, Chenle. What do you want from me?” you let out a soft chuckle, shaking your head at the boy. “Threatening to spread the information isn’t going to embarrass me that much. I’ve done worse things,” you added, finishing the last few words of your notes.
“No shit, you walked into the boys bathroom to hide from some guy.” Chenle exclaimed with a laugh. “Survival is a reasonable explanation. I still wanted to live, you know! I’ll have you know I only got two weeks of detention for it,” you closed your notebook with a huff, getting up from your seat.
“And was your little tantrum under the rain another part of your survival instincts?” Chenle provoked, causing you to clench your teeth. “I don’t think doing a religious sacrifice on a rainy school day can be called survival, Y/n. Especially whining about how single you are,” he snorted against his palm.
You flushed in embarrassment, turning your body away as you grabbed the notes you borrowed from your classmate. “Shut up. I should’ve performed a demonic ritual to wipe you off of the face of the earth instead,” you spat back, walking away from your shared desk to head on over to your classmate’s.
“It still won’t get you a boyfriend, though.” Was the last words Chenle said to you before you walked away.
It was safe to say you had to apologize to your friend for crumpling their notes.
“I still can’t believe screaming like a lunatic under the rain actually works,” you shuddered, sipping your hot cocoa with a traumatized expression. It’s been almost a year since then. You graduated high school, now you’re in your first year of college.
It was honestly a surprising journey but a couple months after your little tantrum, you manage to find yourself an actual boyfriend, who you now share a flat with. It’s all just ironic really, you screaming under the rain like a deranged psycho was supposed to be something to laugh at in the near future.
But now, the story became even more laughable when the world decided to drop your boyfriend right in front of you not too soon afterwards. Even though you didn’t get along very well at first, it was still pretty worth it, if you say so.
“You still can’t believe what, babe?” you heard your boyfriend call out from the kitchen, the sound of his spoon stirring inside one of your ceramic mugs hitting the air. You let out a soft laugh, shaking your head as you scrolled through your old picture file on your laptop. Pictures you and your friends took before you all graduated high school to capture your last moments with each other.
“Remember the day I screamed and cursed at the sky because I was tired of being single?” you laughed, remembering the moment as if it happened only yesterday. There was a small pause before a loud dolphin-like laugh pierced your ears. “Oh my god, that was so iconic!” he exclaimed, tapping the spoon against the edge of the mug.
“Right? God it was so embarrassing! I finally stopped when I realised the principal was going home. Damn, thank god I didn’t get detention,” you joked, opening a picture of you and your boyfriend laughing and smiling under the heavy rain. “I’m still pissed off that I didn’t record it, it could’ve pinpoint the day I decided to talk to you,” Chenle chuckled, coming out of the kitchen with a mug of his own.
“Shut up, I know for a fact you’re never going to let it go if you actually did record it,” you stuck your tongue out teasingly, scooting over to the edge of the couch to make room for him to sit. “Indeed, it could’ve gone viral, you know. I could post it on Tik Tok or Youtube with the caption ‘Girl Screams At How Single She Is Not Knowing That Her Future Boyfriend Is Standing Right Behind Her, Recording Her For Epic Black Mail!’” Chenle grinned, emphasizing his words with his hand.
You rolled your eyes. “Shut up, I hate you,” you huffed, pushing the laptop closer to the two of you so he could see. “What are you looking at by the way?” he asked, leaning over to see your screen clearly as he sipped his beverage. “Old photos from high school, you were way more annoying then,” you commented, giggling.
“I’m not annoying now?” he raised his brow at you, making you grin. “You still are, don’t worry. Just slightly less than back when we started dating,” you pinched his cheek gingerly causing him to chuckle. “That means I’m not doing my job as a good boyfriend,” he pouted, pressing a kiss to your cheek.
“Chenle, no.” You shook your head at him.
“Chenle, yes.” He nodded with a cheeky grin.
“I’m breaking up with you,” you deadpanned, turning away from him to continue scrolling. “Sure you would,” he said sarcastically, wrapping an arm around you lovingly. “You love me too much to even think about breaking up,” he said, grabbing your cheeks in both of his palms, turning your head to make you look at him. He pressed your cheeks together, making your lips pucker up for him to press a loving kiss against them.
“Remind me why I like you so much?” you mumbled against his lips before he pulled away. He hummed, thinking it over for a moment. “I’m just too damn amazing. Plus, a clown like yourself deserves someone to over-clown you,” he giggled. “I prefer the term ‘rival’ because over-clowning isn’t a thing but go off, I guess.” you let out a soft laugh, nuzzling your nose against his.
“Maybe you should do what I did and start screaming at the rain to make us rich,” you suggested.
“Y/n, no. You’re not funny.”

Angel’s Rising- Chapter Three
I jump from the feminine voice sounding behind me. However, when I meet navy eyes, I jump to my feet. “M-Midnight!”
The woman smiles and opens her arms to pull me into a bone crushing hug. “You look amazing, Aria. I see that you kept the outfit I had made for you.” I smile and pick at the tight sleeve on my arm. “Of course. It helps my quirk, so I had to keep it.” She grins and gives my head a gentle pat.
“I heard that you would be working with dear Eraserhead here. I was sad they didn’t put you with me.” I giggle and move my hair from my face. “I enjoy working with Mr. Aizawa so far. He’s kind.” She scoffs and gives him a playful glance. I can tell from his grunt that he isn’t in a playful mood.
“Come on, Shouta, you know she’s cute.” Excuse me? My face flushes, and Aizawa grunts again. “That’s inappropriate, Midnight. Shut up.” “You aren’t den-” “I said to shut up.” I flinch at his tone even though it wasn’t directed at me. He gives me an apologetic glance, but doesn’t say anything. Instead, he stands and walks out of the room.
“He’ll be okay. He’s mopey sometimes. How have you been, dear?” I smile at my old mentor. Midnight had me as a student all three of my years at UA. When she heard about my issues at home, she became like my mother. She would even make me take money from her so I could feed the girls and get them clothes.
“I’ve been okay. Rose and Lilith-” “I don’t want to hear about them, Aria. I know they’re okay. You took care of them, but I want to make sure you’re taking care of yourself.” I smile softly and lean against her. “I.. I’ve been okay. I promise.” She smiles and pushes me off so she can look at me closely. “You are just so pretty, girl! How have you not had a man sweep you off your feet?”
Oh wow, here we go. “The girls are more important than a man, Midnight.” “But they’re growing up, too. Hell, I see how they have their own crushes. Lilith actually smiles around that class rep boy, and.. Rose acts even more extroverted around Kaminari.” I smile with a tiny chuckle. “Good. They’re teenagers.” Her smile is soft, but a bit sad. I know what she’s thinking. I never allowed myself to be a teenager.
“I know those babies are proud of you, Aria. You’re their hero.” She grabs my shoulders and leads me back to the couch. Is it therapy time already?
“I try,” I sigh as I sit down with her, “I want them to have someone in their family that they can look up to.” She places her hand on my shoulder when she notices my voice strain. “They have you. You’re amazing to them.” “I’m just locally-” “You’re their number one. Trust me. They talked about you all the time when they first got here.” My eyes widen and I finally meet hers.
“You.. kept an eye on them?” She chuckles and pulls me into a hug again. “Of course I did. You became my daughter, so I felt obligated to watch your babies.” I close my eyes and let myself get comfortable in her arms. She never ceases to make me feel loved, honestly. She really was my rock through my high school.
“Am I interrupting?” She pulls back and smiles at the blonde man, who I guess is Present Mic. “No, Mic. Come on in.” He smiles kindly at me and goes to the chair in front of Midnight. “Aria?” “Yeah?”
His voice suddenly grows louder. “I’m pumped to have new faculty! We totally needed another healer. Recovery girl always seems to have her hands full with these kids.” “Well,” I laugh and reach to shake his hand, “I’m here to help.” \
“I gotta tell ya, girl, your sisters are some wicked fighters.” I smile softly. “I know. I’m glad that their father had offensive quirk. It made getting into UA easier.” “You went here, I assume?” I nod and smile at Midnight.
“I was by recommendation. My sisters are just talented.” Mic chuckles lightly. “That may be true, but you have to be hella smart to get in here the way you did. Don’t sell yourself short, Aria.” Midnight rubs my back comfortingly as I give Mic a thankful smile.
“I actually needed.. your blessing.” “My blessing? Mic, I barely know you.” He laughs loudly at my response. Even Midnight gives a small chuckle. “I wanted to ask you if I have your permission to train Rose.” “Why would you want Rose? She has- “ “An air quirk. I have a voice quirk. Plus, I just like her overall spunky attitude.” I look at Midnight, who smiles softly. “Mic is a childhood friend of mine. He’s trustworthy.”
“If Rose wants to, then I don’t see why not. Just expect me to show up and observe sometimes.” He smiles widely and shakes my hand again, but now there’s a sort of excitement to it. “Thank you. She’s in safe hands with me, I promise.”
My phone starts ringing, so I quickly pull it from my bag. Of course, it’s Rose, so I answer it quickly. I don’t mean to use her nickname in front of two other people, but oops.
“Hey, Rosebud, what’s up?” “Eeeewww! Anyways,” she giggles, “you should come eat lunch with us. I have Kaminari, Iida, and Lilith.” “I’ll meet you in the hallway.” Once I hang up, I give Midnight another hug. “I’m sure I’ll see you later, but the girls want me to eat with them, so I can’t refuse.”
I wave goodbye to Mic as I head out of the teacher’s lounge. Like I thought, the girls are waiting with the two boy near a large window. Kaminari and Rose are playfully shoving each other, but Lilith and Iida seem to be pointing at something in a book and talking about it. It’s a really good personality picture, so I decide to snap a quick one before they can notice.
Lilith catches a glimpse of me and smiles. “Hey, Aria. How was the teacher’s lounge?” I shrug and grab an orange juice that Iida offers me. “It was fine, I guess. Thank you, Iida.” “You’re very welcome.”
“hey, we haven’t officially met, but I’m Kaminari.” Rose gently shoves the blonde boy’s shoulder. “Call him Denki.” “Hey-” “Hush.” They both start laughing before they go back to playfully shoving each other around. I smile softly while watching them. “By the way,” Iida pats my shoulder softly, “there’s no need for you to be formal with me. Just call me Tenya.” I nod at him, which seems to make Lilith happy.
“Uh, sis,” Lilith points behind me, “I think Mr. Aizawa is looking for you.” I look behind to see the dark haired man glancing at us. He waves me over, so I rush towards him. “Are you busy?” “I was going to have lunch with my sisters, but if you need-” He holds his hand up, silencing me immediately. “I was just going to ask if you wanted to eat lunch with me. I got some soba for you.” He holds a bag out for me, but I just stare confused. “M-mr. Aizawa, let me pay you back.” “Nonsense. Here, you need to eat. Go enjoy it with your sisters.” Once I take it, he turns to walk away with his own bag.
“Hey, we should eat together.. once I get a bit more comfortable here.” I feel terrible leaving him like that. He glances over his shoulder and shrugs. “Sure. Just let me know when. okay?” I nod and give him a small smile. I barely notice the corners of his mouth turn up before he walks back into the lounge. Lilith and Rose stare at me dumbfounded as I walk over. however, Tenya and Denki aren’t paying attention.
“Why are you two staring at me like-” “Mr. Freaking Aizawa is.. being nice?” Tenya gives a tiny snort of laughter, but Lilith isn’t laughing. Rose scratches her head in thought. “I’m so used to seeing him frown. He seemed.. comfortable talking with you.” I feel my cheeks heat up a bit and chuckle.
“Have you guys ever thought that you see him differently because he’s your teacher? You aren’t supposed to see him as a friend.” Denki snickers and nudges me with his elbow. “Are you assuming that Mr. Aizawa is your friend?” “Hey,” Lilith snaps at him a bit, “only we can mess with her. Piss off.” He squeaks and hides behind Rose. “Control your twin!”
“Look, Denki,” Rose giggles, “Lilith has a point. Leave Aria alone.” He pouts, but the rest of us laugh. “But, to answer your question Denki, I believe Mr. Aizawa and I could eventually become friends. Hes been very nice to me.” “Maaaaan your standards are low, sis.” “Lilith Wren Williams!” She quickly grabs Tenya’s arm and laughs. “Run, Tenya!” “W-why me I- Okay!” They run off, both laughing their heads off. For once, Rose gives her sister the ‘lord help us’ glance. “We should go with them. They’re headed to the cafeteria.”
They already have a table for the four of us when we get there. I sit down while the four of them go to get their food., Of course, my mind is still clouded with worry since I kinda accidentally blew Aizawa off. I don’t want him to dislike me on my first day working with him. That would make this job suck.
“Sis,” Lilith sits beside me with a sigh, “you look like you’re worried.” I nod a bit and wait until the others get back to speak. “I just.. feel really bad. Aizawa got me lunch, and doesn’t want me to pay him back or anything, but I accidentally blew him off.” Tenya gives me a worried glance. “he should understand. It was an accident.” “Yeah,” Denki agrees while shoving rice in his mouth, “I don’t even think someone as hot headed as Bakugo would be mad over something like that.”
“I think I’ll send him a text or something. Maybe.. I don’t know.” “Hey,” Rose reaches and grabs my hand softly, “after you eat, go to the classroom. He eats in there after he gives Present Mic some food. Just go talk-” “Wait,” I interrupt her, “are you telling me that other bag in his hand wasn’t for him?” Does that mean he hasn’t eaten yet? All four of them look at each other and shrug. Okay, now i feel really bad.
I make quick work finishing the soba. “Here,” Tenya reaches and grabs my empty bowl, “you go ahead. I’ll handle the trash.” I smile at him thankfully before rushing towards the classroom. Somehow I remember the way to it, thank god. That would have been really awkward if I didn’t.
I knock on the door softly before entering. Like they said, Aizawa is in here, typing away at his computer. I do see an empty packet of.. is that applesauce? “M-Mr. Aizawa? Are you busy?” He turns his chair to face me. “Umm.. I mean, I’m putting grades in. Shouldn’t you be eating with-” “I did, but.. I worried because someone said you only usually buy food for Present Mic.” “Oh. Don’t worry, I ate.”
The way he turns his chair away from me is slightly concerning. “I mean, I see the applesauce thing on your desk, but if you’ve only had that and coffee..” “Is this all you needed? I’m rather busy.” I flinch from the annoyance in his tone. There I go, messing up the little bit of friendship we could ahve already had.
“I-I apologize, sir. Is there anything I can get for you?” When he turns, he seems a bit confused. “Are you okay?” Huh? “Why wouldn’t I be?” “You sound upset.” Do i? I tilt my head, but I guess I can’t deny the shift in my voice after hearing him get irritated with me. “Oh, no sir. I just realized that I was getting on your nerves.” I laugh awkwardly, but he doesn’t seem amused.
“You weren’t getting on my nerves, Doc. I’m just tired.” He rubs his eyes, and I realize just how red they are. Man, he is exhausted. “Please, call me Aria. I don’t like going by my hero name to everyone.” “Then quit putting Mr. in front of my name. you aren’t my student.” I smile softly and nod. “Alright. Still, Aizawa, let me get you something. You need real food.” He sighs, finally giving in. When he goes to dig his wallet out, I shake my head. “No, I’ll get it. It’s the least I can do since you’ve been so nice to me.” When I notice a small smile, my heart leaps a bit.
“Okay, you win. There’s a vending machine down the hall. Just a protein bar will be okay.” ‘Aizawa-” “I’ll eat a meal when I get home, I promise. Quit worrying.” I chuckle and head out into the hallway. When I make it to the vending machine, which is right outside of the teacher’s lounge, Mic and Midnight walk out.
Midnight smiles sweetly at me. “What are you up to?” “Getting Aizawa a protein bar and a water. He bought lunch for me, but didn’t get himself anything.” “I told you Nemuri! I knew that he had to have gotten something else!” Midnight holds her hand up with a laugh. “Sorry, I’m used to him only pampering you since you two are such good friends.”
I roll my eyes at their playful argument as I buy Aizawa’s so called lunch. “Well, I gotta go give this to him. Bye you two.” They laugh as I rush away from their teasing stares.
As soon as I give it to him, the bell rings. “Aizawa..” “Don’t worry,” he gives me the smallest smile as he stands, “I’ll eat it while we’re outside. Come on, lets go ahead to the training ground. The kids have to change into their costumes.” I nod and follow him out.
Some kids already beat us there, but they seem to busy stretching to say anything other than a quick ‘hello’. “Aria,” Aizawa snaps in front of my face to get my attention, “how skilled are you at combat?” “Honestly? I can handle myself, but I prefer being a support role during missions.” He nods understandingly, finally taking a bite of his protein bar.
“If you ever need some sparring, or just training in general, tell me. I’m happy to join you.” I smile and give him a gentle shove. “And here I was thinking that I annoyed the piss out of you.” He actually smirks now. “Oh? Not quite, but the day is still young. Your sisters piss me off a lot more, I promise.”
Once all the kids are there, the playfulness in his tone disappears. It seems to be all business with him. He starts off by pairing up the kids into sparring partners. It looks fine.. until I hear Lilith get mad.
“Ex-fucking-scuse me you little grape bastard?!” Aizawa and I rush over to where she was busy sparring with some boy that looks literally three feet tall. Two cloud knives are tight in her grip, but they suddenly disintegrate. When I look at Aizawa, his hair is straight up and his eyes are crimson. Is this his quirk?
“Williams,” he snarls at Lilith, “what are you-” “This little grape bastard started asking about my sister!” I raise an eyebrow, but that fire in her eye tells me that it’s something more than what my name is. Aizawa grabs her arm with the scarf around his neck and sighs. “What did he say?” “He asked how a girl like her was ‘blessed with such a cute face, but has a small gut’. I’m going to fucking-” “Language!” His yell makes her quiet down. Still, something about that comment makes me wrap my arms around my stomach. Aizawa notices, gives me an apologetic glance, and turns to the boy.
“Mineta.. why shouldn’t I expel you right now?” Mineta whimpers, scooting away from Aizawa’s glare. “I-I’m sorry! I won’t say it again Mr. Aizawa!” “Don’t apologize to me. Apologize to Ms. Aria this instant.” The boy’s putple eyes meet mine and I can see tears flowing down his face. “I-I’m so sorry. Please, control your sister.”
“No, I don’t think I will. It seems Mr. Aizawa is handling her just fine.” Lilith glares daggers at the small boy. “Look, Grape Head, I don’t need my quirk to wring your fucking neck.” “One more curse and you’ll have detention, Williams.” She rolls her eyes, but he ignores that.
I decide to take her from him while he deals with Mineta. “Come on, Lilith. Lets go over here for a talk.”
She follows, but crosses her arms over her chest. Once I’m away from Aizawa, I give her a tight hug. “Hey, I don’t blame you for getting over protective, but you know that you can’t full on try and kill someone for something as stupid as that.” She huffs, but I can see a bit of sadness in her jade colored eyes. “I know, Aria, but I also know that you got made fun of a lot for shit like that. I hate when someone says anything bad about you or Rose. It.. doesn’t sit right with me.” “I know, Lils, and that’s okay. I would be pissed if anyone said something that rude about you two.”
I kiss her forehead just as Aizawa walks over. He sighs and gives Lilith a stern, but understanding, stare. “Williams, I completely agree that Mineta should learn to be more respectful of any woman. Trust me, it disgusts me too.” “But he said it about Aria, Mr. Aizawa.” “I know. I promise that he is being dealt with. I should be giving you detention for the cursing and such, but.. I’ll let you off the hook.” She seems shocked. “You are?” “Yeah. I would be mad too if she was my sister. Just, please, control your anger in the future. If he does it again come to me.” She smiles slightly at him, which makes him seem a bit less stern. “Thank you, Mr. Aizawa.” “Go train with your sister and Ururaka before I change my mind.”
When she runs off, he glances at me. “I apologize about Mineta’s comment. It was inappropriate on many levels.” “You don’t need to apologize, Aizawa. I’m okay.” “I saw you cover your stomach.” I blush slightly and look at the ground. Yeah, he did notice, didn’t he? I guess my insecurities are pretty obvious. When I don’t say anything, he nudges me like I did to him earlier.
“Not to sound.. weird or anything, but you’re really... uh, you’re pretty.” When I look up, he smiles a bit, which makes me want to squeal like a little girl. he called me pretty? What the hell? “I-I.. thank you, Aizawa. You’re sweet.” “Not really, but sure.”
Once the training is over, Aizawa leads everyone back to the classroom. After a few words to end the day, the kids start packing their stuff up to go home. “Sis,” Rose rushes over to me as I’m about to talk to Aizawa, “can Iida and Denki come over to study for the test?” “I don’t care, but mom..” Lilith walks over, and I notice Tenya forces her to let him take her bag. “They know about her, but you’re the adult. If they’re there, you know she’ll stay away from all of us.” I shrug. She does have a point. “Fine, but I’ll be leaving later than you guys. If you want to go ahead and start walking you can.”
After they leave, I smile and start straightening papers on Aizawa’s desk. He notices and walks over to join me. “You guys don’t drive here?” “I have a license, but my mom doesn’t allow me to use her car.” He shrugs slightly. “Fair enough. Midnight mentioned she knew you once we heard about you getting hired, by the way. When she said that you had raised your little sisters, i never pieced together that there was a set of twins in my class.” I chuckle and pass him a random pen.
“You should let me take you home, Aria.” “I wouldn’t ask you to-” “Then don’t ask. Just come get in the car.” I giggle a bit and follow him outside. My sisters told me about how much of a hardass he is and I mean, he’s strict, but he seems to be really nice. At least, he is to me.
“Buckle up because I drive like a madman sometimes.” “Nah.” He gives me a stern glance, which makes me buckle up. His grey eyes seem lighter than they were when I first met him. Of course, that was only this morning. “Hey, Aizawa.” “Yes?” “Umm.. we don’t live in the best part of town. I really feel-” “I won’t judge you over something as stupid as that. I promise.”
The only words spoken during the ride are me giving him directions. At one point, we drive past the kids, and I wonder if they noticed me in the passenger seat. Once he pulls in front of my house, he sighs softly.
“I know you mentioned something about your mom. I assume she isn’t the best type of person if she made you raise the twins.” I shrugs and unbuckle. “I try not to judge her too much, honestly. I wouldn’t change anything even if I could.” “I don’t think the twins would have anyone else as their ‘mom’, honestly. I can tell that they look up to you, Aria.”
Can he really? Even after just meeting me today. “Still, there’s something I’m concerned about.” “What would that be?” His eyes fill with worry, but he tries to keep a stoic expression on his face. “Are you three in any danger with her?” “No. If she ever gets too drunk, she passes out.” “Are you sure?” “Positive, Aizawa. Don’t worry. If I thought she would hurt the girls, I would have her arrested.” He lets out a sigh, obviously relieved.
“That’s good and everything, but what if she tried to hurt you?” Shit. I don’t answer that, which makes him frown. “If you ever need help, with the twins or yourself, call me. Text me, do something. You aren’t alone in this.” I smile and lay my hand softly on top of one of his. “Thank you, Aizawa. I’m glad that I’m working with you.” “That’s a first.” “No, really,” I can’t help but laugh, “I feel like we can be good friends.. Does that sound weird?”
He looks in his rear view mirror with a sigh. “No. It doesn’t. I feel the same.” Suddenly, someone taps the passenger window. Of course, it’s Rose. Lilith is standing with the boys, but everyone has a confused look on their face.
“I should get out. They’ll think we were being weird or something.” “Alright. Hey, I’ll be here to pick the three of you up before school tomorrow.” I open my mouth to tell him it’s fine, but his raised eyebrow makes me stay quiet. “Okay, whatever, sir.” “Uh huh. Get out of my car, punk.” he chuckles while I get out. Once he pulls away, I place my hand over my still racing heart.
Yeah.. I can tell we’re going to be good friends.
