Republic Commando - Delta Squad

Welcome to my latest obsession (I've been calling it my hyperfixation within a hyperfixation within a hyperfixation)! After finally playing Republic Commando (2005) for the first time, I can't get Delta Squad out of my head. And since we never got a face reveal for any of them, I decided to make my own design (since I'm planning on drawing them a lot more 👀). I'll try putting my thought process during designing down below, but before I continue I want to say I was heavily inspired by the following amazing Delta Squad designs, so please go give those some love:

Alright, buckle up for some ramblings:

38 BOSS As squad leader, I felt like Boss had to look somewhat presentable, without too much self-applied adjustments (like tattoos or alternative haircuts). He has slightly longer hair than Rex, but he likes keeping it short. He does have some stubble on his jaw, because I also felt like he would slightly care about his appearance, but not that much. He has a scar on the left side of his face starting at his lower jaw going up across his cheek, and he has a scar on his right temple crossing through the end of his brow. His hair is the reg-like dark brown and he has the usual dark brown eyes.

40 FIXER I feel like Fixer would stick to the reg look, since he's a bit more into regulations than Sev and Scorch. I did give him slits through both eyebrows, because I thought it would fit with his slicing abilities. He is more careful than the others and wouldn't wrestle with some creature or ordnance (at least not without his bucket on). He does have a thin scar on his chin. I headcanon that he scratches or rubs his chin whenever he feels like he's taking too long slicing (like a tic), and maybe one day he accidentally tore open his skin with a sharp edge of his gauntlet plate; thus the scar on his chin. He has a reg haircut (dark brown) and his eyes are the usual dark brown.

07 SEV Sev, my fierce love.. I was doubting between a buzz cut or the mohawk. I ended up with the mohawk (with undercut) because it gave me the vibes of a hunter/predator. The mohawk is fairly curly at the front. Of course he has several scars, because he isn't afraid to come up close to any hostiles (whether it being enemies or feral creatures they encounter on their missions). The helix of his right ear is slightly torn on three places, like some creature took a bite from it. He has a scar crossing his left eyebrow and one across his lips, making the teeth behind it visible. His hair is the reg-like dark brown and he has the usual dark brown eyes.

62 SCORCH Wooo-ooh! BOOM! That might have happened in his face. You cannot convince me that there is no evidence of explosion-gone-slightly-wrong on this beautiful boy's face. He has a burn mark across the bridge of his nose, across his cheeks, around his right eye and through the middle of his right eyebrow. His right eye is slightly discoloured (lighter than the usual reg eye colour). I don't think it's completely blind, I just think looking at an explosion that close is very unhealthy. He has a bit of a mullet mohawk; broader than Sev's. It's pretty curly, especially at the front, leaving some playful locks dangling down his face. I loved all the partly blonde designs I stumbled upon, so of course I added some blonde streaks through those locks. Besides the streaks, his hair is reg dark brown. His left eye is the usual dark brown too, but as I explained before, the right one is lighter.

I love 'em all but Sev and Scorch are my precious babies but also Boss oh Maker, it's the Tem voice I tell you, I kissed him in my dream last night ahahaha (I'm down bad with the Delta Squad flu, folks). But Fixer is also really cute because he's so baby?? Alright, on to my next Delta Squad piece!

last series: i recently binged creature commandos!!! it was a lot of fun! the animation was stunning; the concept wasn't anything crazy (this is like the 2nd or 3rd (or 4th??) time they've essentially rebooted the suicide squad? lol) but i loved the bride and nina as characters :)

last movie: juror #2... it was okay... not a bad movie but not exactly saying anything new or especially interesting imo

sweet or savory or spicy: i do have a sweet tooth haha

favorite color: i've been decorating my room in green a lot lately! lots of frogs!!

tea or coffee: both!! green tea (genmaicha 🙏) and any kind of latte tbh (had a cherry blossom one recently yum)

last thing i looked up: "da2 best served cold" bc i was doing that quest last night LOL (i'm almost at the endgame so i'm doing legacy rn :') i have anders, sebastian, and carver w me and i feel like a pick-me but whatever 🤧 one of them is literally my brother so he doesn't count 💀)

I just watched episode 3 of Creature Commandos. I love Monster Mashups and I love found family as a trope but I'm not a big fan of Suicide Squad. That being said, I've been enjoying Creature Commandos, from the tragic backstory of The Bride of Frankenstein, to G. I. Robot and his obsession with killing Nazis. Episode 3 was more dramatic than I expected. It was good and also very emotional. I'm curious to know if Circe actually had (for her) good intentions by seeking to kill the princess. What does she know that we do not? I've seen similar scenarios with Marvel's Dracula trying to protect the world by doing something perceived as awful. (See the four issue Legion of Monsters from 2010). All I can say about this one really is, I'm glad G. I. Robot died doing what he loved. I suspect he probably won't stay dead. Nina seems very intelligent, maybe she can repair him.

December 2024 General Update Post: Break Recap and Plans for 2025

I said I was going to take a fanfic break back in September and I was expecting it to be two weeks, maybe a month max, but instead it was like 4 months. I started a new job that I was expecting to kick my ass but nope. It was a class. I was consumed like I have never been consumed before.

Other stuff happened too and I was kind of going through it but I survived so it's fanfic time again.

I decided to end my break about halfway through December and immediately wrote two Creature Commandos fics:

Artificial Souls Don't Make Artificial Families is a platonic soulfamily AU oneshot where soulmarks appear on first touch with your soulmates. It's mostly Rick freaking out that he's soulmates with a bunch of monsters.

Artificial Souls Still Feel Pain is a queerplatonic polyamorous soulmate AU twoshot with the pain sharing soulmate trope. The first chapter shows Rick through the years feeling the Commandos' pain, with some focus on their mutations/transformations, and the second chapter is more Rick freaking out that he's soulmates with a bunch of monsters.

These will probably be posted this week. They’re all edited and everything. I just want to wait until the good posting hours but I have been sleeping through them unfortunately.

The painsharing fic idea came from my IRL friend who was originally a client of mine then I very unprofessionally became friends with and turns out she'd read one of my fics before meeting me. Crazy coincidence.

Anyway, she's got my DC obsession going again so expect more DC fics maybe but I lost motivation for the two I was working on (a wingfic AU and a SuperLantern thing)

My other WIPS are the stepdad Magneto adoption fic and that monster au Submas fic that I've talked a little about but haven't posted.

He Died Loving You (stepdad Magneto fic) has one arc written that needs editing and two more outlined. Someone wrote a fic of the fic which gave me some inspo for more family-oriented stuff so look forward to that.

Idk what's going on with my Pokemon one. Love the idea but I started writing it like a year and a half ago and it's barely started. Might just be one of those ones I work on forever because it'll probably end up being a long one.

The Masking series is being moved out of my WIP folder. I know people would like to see more but I am feeling unmotivated about the ideas I was excited for, and I know the stuff I wanted to write wasn't the stuff people were really interested in seeing. A sequel/seeing Zoroark Ingo back in the modern world just isn't interesting to me.

I have a folder that just has loose ideas/outlines that I always think I'm going to write immediately but I know I'm not going to. Lmk if you're interested in any of these and that might motivate me to write them but otherwise they're getting tossed into the old idea bin:

Dreaming of Sunshine fic where Shikako and Sasuke escort the film crew from the Land of Snow movie to the Land of Rain to film the Utterly Gusty Ninja movie and instead find Pein (it is a real plot point in DOS that they never got to)

HalBarry fic where Hal thinks someone is impersonating the Flash on dating apps so he schedules a date with them but actually Barry just likes eating with people. Obviously turns into real dating lol

Submas fic in a world without Pokemon where Emmet becomes a Pokemon TCG player or streamer or something after Ingo disappears but Ingo is 100% convinced he got isekai'd to the Pokemon world when he comes back so Emmet has to give up Pokemon because he believes all his pokemon stuff is harming his brother's recovery

Submas fic where Ingo is an opera singer. That's it basically.

X-Men 97 fic about Morph deciding to use his real face because reasons

My long term hiatused things:

MCU/Miraculous crossover after the Snap. I wrote the beginning and outlined the rest of it but lost motivation. Not posted.

Young Justice/Naruto crossover focused on a Green Lantern Sai. I started working on it since 2019 and it's been restarted so many times. Not posted.

Ben 10/Sanders Sides crossover where the Sides are aliens. Wrote it in 2020 and lost motivation to keep updating.

My current abandoned fics are a Ben 10 Halloween fic also from 2019 and a TMNT fic from 2018. Pretty good record in my opinion.

My 2025 goals are to keep working on the stepdad Magneto adoption fic, ideally writing those next two arcs, and making progress on that Submas monster au. Maybe also do more oneshots? I always make plans at the beginning of the year and don't stick to them. I want to chase my whims more and not have bigger WIPs so I don't stop myself from writing when an idea hits and I am ready to obsess.

Tag Game!

Last Song Listened: Ready for Camarillo by Ambrosia. The only song I know of theirs is How Much I Feel, which I LOVE. I wanted to see if I'd like any of their other music, so I listened to the album How Much I Feel is on (Ready for Camarillo is the final song on the album). Turns out, the album wasn't for me. A lot of the songs are almost to my liking, but not quite. Anyway, would definitely recommend How Much I Feel.

Last Movie Watched: Okay, so the last actual movie I watched was Jingle All the Way. I'd never seen it before! Why is it called that? It was fun. Since I watched that, I have also watched a few other things that maybe count as movies, maybe don't: The Nuttiest Nutcracker (an awful movie from my childhood that is horribly animated), It's A Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie (more of a holiday special than a movie tbh), and Rankin/Bass's Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

Currently Watching: right now, at this moment, I'm watching a Drawfee stream vod. Other than that, I started Creature Commandos last night. Most of my time has been spent making a needlepoint for a friend, so I haven't had a chance to watch much tv lately.

Currently Reading: As with tv, my reading has been put on pause while I'm making this thing for my friend. Before I started that, I was in the middle of reading all of my DC books in chronological order. The next one on my list is Green Lantern: Traitor.

Currently Obsessed With: I can't stop thinking about that Superman trailer. Every time I see him save that girl, or when that boy raises that flag and calls for Superman, I start to get emotional. But also I got my ears pierced for the first time earlier this year and they've finally gotten to the point recently where they're healed and I can switch them out for different earrings! So I've been getting a bunch of fun and cute earrings :)

Last movie: I wanna say Hereditary? Pretty good movie, you can tell they really did their research on Paimon for that one which is a nice surprise as you often don't see that alot in movies of that genre or at least I haven't.

Last TV show: I don't watch much TV anymore, but I've been watching alot of Inysm & Mithzan on YouTube alot lately.

Sweet/Savory/Spicy: I LOVE spicy food to a degree that seems to make others uncomfortable lol Next would be Savory & honestly I love to pair the two together. Last is sweet, but that's because I've had sweet sensitivity my whole life, it hurts my teeth & jaw :[

Current obsession: Its a bit of a mixed bag right now??? There's some Xiaolin Showdown, Crime Scene Cleaner, Creature Commandos, Conrad Stevenson's Paranormal P.I., Batman- Just alot of like supernatural, angsty hero type shit.
