Welcome to the Shadowhunters Mini Bang 2025: Presented by the Malec Discord Server

The Shadowhunters Mini Bang 2025 is a collaborative fandom event that combines fandom talents! Writers create never-before-seen fic that artists will find inspiration in and together, they create magic.

You must be a part of the Malec Discord Server to participate. You must be over 16 to participate and over 18 to create explicit works.

Rules:

You must be part of the Malec Discord Server to participate in this event. 

You must be over 16 to participate and over 18 to create explicit works.

All content must be brand new and never before posted to any forum. All content must be polished and finished. No unfinished works or WIPs that you plan on continuing later will be accepted. Works that are added chapters/continuations of previously published works are not permitted unless they can be viewed/read as a standalone. 

Plagiarism and AI content will not be tolerated. All content must be the creator’s own original work. 

Writers are asked not to talk about their projects until after claims with anyone participating in this event to keep beta/artist claims fair. 

All content must focus on Shadowhunters universe characters (show and/or book verse.)

All Shadowhunters characters/ships are accepted. OCs/borrowed characters will be accepted as minor characters. 

AUs and crossovers are accepted as long as the Shadowhunters characters are the main focus.

Content of any rating and subject matter is accepted, but participants must make sure to include any relevant warnings throughout the entire event (I.e. warnings for betas/artists during matching) and properly tag their work. 

No blatantly hateful content of any kind. 

All participants are required to check-in with moderators at least twice throughout the event. All check-ins are integral to continuing to participate in the event. 

All participants must communicate readily with their assigned partners and vice versa. This is a collaborative effort. All participants must be open to the ideas of their partners. 

When you sign up for this event you are making a commitment to yourself, the mods, and your future partners to meet all posted deadlines and to communicate with the mods and your partners regularly. Please don’t sign up for the event unless you are confident that you can fully participate and be honest with yourself about what you can commit to. 

Please respect the mods and anyone working with you throughout this event. Certain complaints may disqualify you from this event.

Writer Specific Rules:

Writers must write a minimum of 5,000 words to participate in this event. There is no maximum limit but please keep in mind the time constraints.

Submitted summaries (provided at check-ins) should provide a solid framework of what your fic is about and the final fic should not deviate too much from those summaries. In the event that it does, please contact a moderator and your partners. This is to ensure all partners are comfortable with their role throughout the event. 

Writers are expected to be respectful of their partners’ ideas. Writers will make all final decisions on their fics, but this event is a collaborative effort.

Artist Specific Rules:

Accepted forms of submitted art include: 

- Digital/physical art: 1 piece, 500px minimum

- Photomanipulation: 1 piece with significant editing

- Gifsets: 4 gifs (without watermarks)

- Moodboards: 6 graphics

- Video: 1 minute

- Playlists: 10 songs and a graphic

Artists are expected to be respectful of writer’s ideas. Writers will make all final decisions on their fics, but this event is a collaborative effort.

CLARY: 0/10. lowkey i was convinced she would get killed off in queen of air and darkness but that didn’t happen and tbh i think she has lifelong plot armour by virtue of being the first ever protag. plus the two jaces inevitably fighting over her doesn’t work if she’s killed off in book 1.

JACE: 1/10. technically he died already in city of glass so uh. doesn’t seem fair to put him back here. in any case i don’t think cc would ever break up clace and also he needs to survive for the jace off but i’m giving him a 1 for wild magic purposes (and also because i can see his ‘died and came back’ thing from city of glass being dug back up for “”parallels””)

ALEC: 0/10. has yaoi plot armour on his side. will never ever die because malec is so resoundingly popular, alec in particular is popular on his own, and killing him off would alienate half the fanbase. next

MAGNUS: 2/10. also has yaoi plot armour + additional factor of everyone expecting him to cameo in each main series book. however marginally more likely than alec because a) shock factor, b) i think cc probably thinks it’s clever and romantic to subvert the idea of magnus outliving alec, y’know. but chances are low i’m not worried

ISABELLE: 5/10. okay i’m a little worried. would fulfil the lightwood sacrifice quota, sizzy has a history of being treated as a little bit more disposable than the other tmi ships (their engagement party is a CLARY short story, their official TMI ending was very open and bittersweet with their ‘endgame’ being relegated to what is objectively an optional short story collection), isabelle can be very angry and impulsive in a way that is conducive to being killed off AND objectively her death would be great angst fodder. however it’s likely that being an original main 6 TMI cast member will save her, as well as thule!jace’s open affection for her and alec. i hope so anyway

SIMON: 4/10. lowkey has suffered more than jesus already and in many ways is cassandra clare’s favourite guy to put in Situations, so it’s possible. i think killing him off would undermine his entire story arc and sacrifice in TMI but that has never stopped cc from making bad decisions in the past...still i’ll give her the benefit of the doubt. i’m mostly concerned because if i remember correctly we never did find out what happened to thule simon and we were told that this was a deliberate omission, but i think he’ll be ok

JOCELYN: 5/10. i actually think the main factor keeping jocelyn alive at this point is cc’s open disdain towards shadowhunters tv and its direction, and the show killed off jocelyn. she’s also technically ash’s grandmother and i imagine something will come of that. equally ash might lash out and have her killed. and she is in that sweet spot of relevant enough for her death to sting but not so major that the fandom would riot. a real coin flip.

LUKE: 7/10. would watch my back if i were him. downworlder married to a shadowhunter while the cohort are inevitably gathering sympathisers outside of idris? girl go into witness protection already. ticks a lot of maryse’s boxes in terms of relevance/how his death would play out. and to be so honest he’s too reasonable lmfao.

LILY: 7/10. her odds are only this low because i think her teaming up with thule jace to get raphael back might last more than one book. anyway. yeah she’s doomed and has been for years. am preemptively taking this very personally.

ELLIOTT: 5/10. makes it onto this list by the skin of his teeth btw since he cameos briefly in the dumort scene in city of bones. granted he’s a fairly minor character but he is lily’s second in command and it is possible he could be a victim of her plan to get raphael back. plus cc’s definition of ‘shock character death’ is subjective, she classed meliorn and maureen as part of her five notable character deaths in CoHF. watch out, is all i’m saying

MAIA: 9/10. has never been more doomed by the narrative in her life, by which i mean: she’s alive in thule. plus she has always been in an awkward position of not quite main tmi gang but too important to be relegated to the background, and killing her off ‘fixes’ that. would have emotional impact on all the main tmi gang, but also lily, which would push her further into trying to bring raphael back to cope. as a side note i am not happy about this and i sincerely hope maia gets to live but.

BAT: 6/10. i can never tell if we’re meant to care about him or not tbh. anyway if he does go down it’s probably with maia. and this would be kind of a fun callback in the worst way possible—he’s the dj at pandemonium in city of bones! getting killed off in the first book of the final series would be very full circle. would be shades of killing off jordan all over again though so who knows

MARYSE: 7/10. more likely to be the necessary lightwood sacrifice than isabelle BUT we saw her executed in thule already and like…not sure if you can kill her off again and have it work. and also i don’t think readers will care if she dies? presumably this death is being done for shock factor. idk. that said yeah the odds aren’t super in her favour

ALINE: 7/10. i actually think she perfectly hits the criteria for this kind of death—we’ve technically known her since city of glass but she only really became relevant in TDA, it will undoubtedly traumatise all the blackthorns and either cause division or bring them closer together, killing her off in book 1 allows for a whole ‘helen overcoming grief’ storyline. lowkey aline if i were you i’d be sleeping with one eye open

JIA: 8/10. gets one more point than aline because she’s a former consul and her death would be very ‘barbara lightwood’-y of being close to home for the blackthorns but not TOO close. scraped her way onto this list through a single line of dialogue in city of glass though so maybe splitting hairs

TESSA: 3/10. ‘but tessa doesn’t get introduced until the infernal devices’ wrong. she has an unnamed cameo at the end of city of glass. and can you imagine the shock factor. the subversion of her outliving jem. so very cassandra. i don’t think she’d actually do it but it isn’t IMPOSSIBLE and it would devastate kit.

George-Hebry reincarnation? I'm very intrigued 👀

Oh my God this one, I'm gonna have to do a lot of character study on show George if I wanna get this one right

I think the idea started with seeing a post in passing on Weibo on someone saying that George reincarnated as Henry and getting to be loved instead of used and be used, so the core idea isn't an original idea from me

But it did get me thinking about possible parallels

I have a similarly structured fic planned out but not written for my other fandom: Shadowhunters, for Raphael Santigo -> Rafael Lightwood-Bane, but the idea is reincarnation is a second chance of some sort

So in George and Henry's case, the basis is that Henry is George's second chance, one where things are opposite: genuinely loving immediate family with adoring parents, being told to suppress his sexuality instead of flaunting it, having power given to him instead of fighting then being corrupted by it, getting to experience true love without alternative motives

I need to watch it with an analytical lens, but I feel like George from the first episode, although kind of petulant, is a starry-eyed good kid who believes in die-hard romances and love before all. That transparent heart was polluted inch by inch until it was black.

Now look at Henry, someone who wants and believes in die-hard romance and one true love, just thinking he can't have it.

So what if the starry-eyed kid George used to be actually got to grow up without having that part of him twisted?

This is more a character study in the form of a fic more than anything. The structure will kind of be George's story first, then Henry's story phrased as paralleling lines of George's.

Something else about this fic that I thought about is that how movie Henry still has his middle name "George Edward James", but now has the surname "Stuart", the same name as the King who loved George more than the world. Something something taking your spouse's surname something something symbolism.

Also there's a contrast/ parallel to be drawn with the meaning of their names:

George, the impoverished boy who rose the power to the point where he was the de facto ruler of the kingdom: Farmer

Henry, the prince born into power but being so careful with it, wanting to do actual good with it: Ruler

James: May God Protect Him

Alexander: Protector of Man

I don't know maybe it's just me but I'm a sucker for poetic paralleling shit like this

25 [F4A] Desperately hunting for the Hunger Games, Fourth Wing and other fandoms!

Hi there! I’m a female writer aged 25 seeking other adult (18+) writers to work with. I’m advanced literate and super friendly. I love gushing about characters, discussing aesthetics and sharing music and muse that suits our story and vibe. I do enjoy chatting ooc but it isn’t a must for me! Just please be patient and kind as I am slightly neurodiverse and I do have mild dyslexia. Though I do check replies for spelling errors sometimes, mistakes do happen!

I’m looking for some awesome and exciting fandom adventures across a range of works. Books, musicals and movies/tv shows, I do ask that if you dm, please have a good knowledge of your chosen fandom. Please also be an experienced roleplayer as well. I’m looking for those of you who use third person, past tense and detail. I typically write around 5-6 paras as a minimum and would love it if you can match!

I can double but at the moment all of my roleplays are doubles. If you’re seeking doubles please be respectful and ask nicely, please don’t be offended if I say no. I’m looking for oc x canon pairing ships and I’ll list everything I’m looking for below. The characters in the below list are who I am looking for to pair with my oc, I am not looking to play them.

Anyone in this list is who I ship with, for some fandoms I may be willing to choose alternate ships. But if I have to rewrite my oc or do anything extra to make it work, doubles will likely be a no. As doubles should be fifty fifty and equal for both ocs in the story! I am specifically searching for what is listed below, if your fandom isn’t listed then I’m very sorry but I’m not interested. Fourth Wing- Oc x Liam, Oc x Xaden I could even consider Bodhi or Dain- but I have loose plot ideas for these two. I am however new to this fandom and currently reading book three. I’d still appreciate people being respectful if asking for this fandom. However my muse is high and I’d love to do something with this.

MCU- I would be looking for Bucky or Steve primarily. But I do have other ships and would be open to looking at them. But Bucky and Steve would be my main pairings for this verse! I have also just started Agent Carter and would love to explore this part of the verse too.

ACOTAR- I have too many pairings to list. But I’d be looking for a Cassian mainly, I’d love to find someone who’s read the fifth book as that’s what I’ve based a bunch of my oc’s lore surrounding him off of. I could also work with Rhysand or Azriel.

Shadowhunters- This really depends on the era. I’ve read all of The Mortal Instruments and would be looking for oc x Jace or oc x Julian Blackthorn- era dependant of course.

Hunger Games- Oc x Haymitch, Oc x Finnick, Oc x Gale, and oc x Coriolanus. I have also read all the original trilogy and TBOSAS many times. I have however just started Sunrise on the Reaping.

Percy Jackson- Oc x Luke, Oc x Charles Beckendorf and Oc x Frank, Oc x Leo Valdez.

With the angstiest ENDING? (I'm a HEA stan, so hold on, this'll take a second.) Probably Learning to Say Goodbye - which has an open/hopeful ending.

HAPPIEST ending? All of them. Oh man. I don't even know. What do you consider the happiest ending? The Titanic AU - Make It Count (which has the happiest possible ending)? Hopefully - My Hope of the Endless series? (And that's just in the Sandman fandom!)

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I have, yup! I tend not to as a whole, but it has definitely happened!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Oh yes. What kind? Uh. Well. Everything from the schmoopiest first time possible to all-orifices fucking with magical tentacles, sooo? All of it?

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I HAVE WRITTEN SO MANY AND WILL WRITE SO MANY MORE. The craziest crossover I ever wrote is a 5-fandom crossover - set in the Sandman universe. I pulled in characters from the Hades Game, Supernatural, Shadowhunters, and Good Omens in and had all of them face off against Hell! The War for the Dreaming

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Unfortunately, yes, multiple times. I wish that on no person.

Yup!!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

A great many, in multiple fandoms!! Shout out to awesome co-authors who keep me sane!!

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Omg I can't pick a FAVORITE. I've had so many over the years, I don't know if I ever could truly pick a favorite. Malec probably comes pretty damn close though, all things considered.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Candy Coated Nightmare. I want to finish it from the perspective of wanting to finish the story - but when the original creator of the gif story quit the fandom due to their work being stolen and stopped the project - finishing the story without them didn't seem right. So while I want to finish it to finish the story - I never will.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I've learned how to hack my ADHD brain and trigger hyperfocus whenever I want using a writing software. Which means I can write very obscene amounts of words, very quickly. (Also experience - I've been doing this for 23+ years now.)

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Editing and research. I hate editing, so none of my fics receive more than a cursory read-through at best. And having to heavily research a fic is what kills my enthusiasm for it faster than anything else, so I avoid it at all costs and make up things as I go along whenever that is an option.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Love the idea - but i think you gotta use the AO3 feature that allows you to put the translation when you click/hover over it!

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Wheeew, we're going back to 2004, okay. Gundam Wing was my first ever fandom I wrote for.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

How the hell am I supposed to pick? I love Make It Count because that fic (all 120k) wrote itself. I love Together We Soar because it was the first long fic I wrote myself. (Long for me, anyways.) I love Alexander is Endlessly Surprising because I wrote 2 full sets of the Oldest Game and I thought I did an AWESOME job. I love The War for the Dreaming because it was an insane undertaking and I managed it. I love Magnus Bane: Certified BAMF because it introduced my favorite OC of all time - Oberon Onyx. So many more I could name, but I'll leave it there, at least for now!

The Shadowhunters Mini Bang 2025 is a collaborative fandom event that combines fandom talents! Writers create never-before-seen fic that artists will find inspiration in and together, they create magic.

You must be a part of the Malec Discord Server to participate. You must be over 16 to participate and over 18 to create explicit works.

The schedule as it currently stands is below. This schedule is subject to change depending on the situation. You will be notified of any changes.

Rules:

You must be part of the Malec Discord Server to participate in this event. 

You must be over 16 to participate and over 18 to create explicit works.

All content must be brand new and never before posted to any forum. All content must be polished and finished. No unfinished works or WIPs that you plan on continuing later will be accepted. Works that are added chapters/continuations of previously published works are not permitted unless they can be viewed/read as a standalone. 

Plagiarism and AI content will not be tolerated. All content must be the creator’s own original work. 

Writers are asked not to talk about their projects until after claims with anyone participating in this event to keep beta/artist claims fair. 

All content must focus on Shadowhunters universe characters (show and/or book verse.)

All Shadowhunters characters/ships are accepted. OCs/borrowed characters will be accepted as minor characters. 

AUs and crossovers are accepted as long as the Shadowhunters characters are the main focus.

Content of any rating and subject matter is accepted, but participants must make sure to include any relevant warnings throughout the entire event (I.e. warnings for betas/artists during matching) and properly tag their work. 

No blatantly hateful content of any kind. 

All participants are required to check-in with moderators at least twice throughout the event. All check-ins are integral to continuing to participate in the event. 

All participants must communicate readily with their assigned partners and vice versa. This is a collaborative effort. All participants must be open to the ideas of their partners. 

When you sign up for this event you are making a commitment to yourself, the mods, and your future partners to meet all posted deadlines and to communicate with the mods and your partners regularly. What fandoms do you write in?

Lately Dead Boy Detective, Kinnporsche, Love in the air, Shadowhunters, Glee there're other fandom I've few words jotted down but nowhere near finished stories

How many words have you published in 2024? around 96K as of today which is better than last year so I'll take that as a win, also on the bright side the year is not over yet...

What is your greatest achievement this year?

Surviving another year? Possibly not committing murder actually starting getting through the process and subtly send a FU to all of my mother's hopes of ever making a cute porcelain doll in gowns and frills out of me

What are your top three fics you’ve written this year? Every change you make (it's one small act of destruction) (Dead Boy Detectives, Payneland, canon divergence) marked as incomplete despite previously being marked as complete due to me caving into the wish of expanding this scenario even more, namely the NN didn't open a portal to Hell for Charles, no deal was made, so Charles ended up meeting most of the Endless on his quest to get to Edwin Put those glasses on, they'll see us as we have never been (Dead Boy Detectives, Charles & Edwin, pre-canon) The origin of their disguises and my take on why Edwin's is a woman and Charles' is a white man The next steps in the same old and dark world (Repo! The Genetic Opera, Graverobber/Shilo, post canon) Only het pair I've ever written, it was an assignment but I actually loved all the research and the final result. Basically what happens to Shilo after the end of the movie and how she ends up and grow in a relationship with the Graverobber

What have you learned? That spending time with chosen family helps me recharge. That I can get very attached to new friends especially when their freaks matches my freaks that most people will always see what they want to see, no matter how much a person is sweet kind, if they have a different idea of them that's what will stick. That love doesn't equal trust, I know my parents love me, but I've finally accepted that it doesn't mean I can actually trust them

What fic did you want to do but never made it off the ground?

At the moment historical/reverse verse where Charles is the one from the early 1900s and Edwin is from the 80s

Did you beta any fics? Any favs you want to shout out?

I do not beta for others, mostly because i'm a vibe checker/plothole poker kind of beta and the majority of beta needs fall under the spelling and grammar checks. In reverse most of my words are not betaed unless they are gifts or assignments (namely if I'm taking part in an event and want to make sure the receiver gets something they can enjoy with minimum amount of human errors)

What ideas are percolating for next year?

Hmmm difficult question the one, I hope to return to the mood of writing more in the SH Winged Protector series, there's lot of worldbuilding and lore going on in there and I love it, though I'm having trouble returning to the SH fandom. I have some thoughts of playing around with more rare-pairs in the DBD, I'm enjoying playing with cricketcat I would like to see more D/s themed stories so probably that will be something I'll dabble in Next year's Kadam week (even if I haven't yet posted this year's stories T_T)

About Adaptations

Ok, I have a couple of thought posts on RWRB written that I want to post (My entry on the movie in my handwritten movie+book journal is already 22 pages long and I’m not even close to being done, I just love it so damn much), but I feel like I need to preface all my thoughts by explaining how I feel about adaptations so my thoughts make more sense and certain groups of people don’t come at me with pitchforks or something.

Plus I just think it’s a fun mindset to have for fandoms that have different representations!

Some of the fandom/franchises I’ve been in that impacted me the most have adaptations, and more often than not the adaptation’s fandom is the first one I approach: MCU/ Marvel Comics, Shadowhunters TV/ The Shadowhunter Chronicles, and well now, RWRB and RWRB Movie.

Getting into Marvel actually helped me create this system a lot because it's sort of part of their lore, and that’s also when I started reading fanfics.

See, the way I understand these different stories with the same core, is that they are alternate universes of each other. The main characters are fixed beings, and the shared events in both timelines are fixed events. All differences are divergences in the timeline.

Granted in our reality, differences in adaptations have their own reason such as constraints in visual media, casting limitations, scriptwriters with different visions etc, but treating them as legit other worlds, and seeing them as a network of different universes helps me enjoy all of them a lot more. That way I don’t mind the changes made that much, as long as within its own universe, it’s consistent and meaningful. (ex: if significant events that happen on a character are removed but the character’s traits that are supposed from the said event don’t change, we have a problem)

And some fun bonuses of that are:

1, when something in the adaptation is directly from the original source material, like a line, or a significant object, it makes me giddy because it feels like these two different worlds are connected by some wonderful magic

2, if there are things in the original source material that isn’t in the adaptation but they don’t conflict with what’s in the adaptation, at the very least in my mind, I add it into the adaptation universe (I do this especially when writing fanfics)

3, when I’m drawing fanart or picturing the book characters, I blend the appearances of the original material with the adaptation, ex: for Shadowhunters, when I draw book Alec, I draw him with blue eyes and black hair from the books, but add in the eyebrow scar and rune placements from Matt Daddario’s portrayal in the TV show; for RWRB when I picture the book version of Alex and Henry, I still see Taylor Zeker Perez and Nicholas Galitzine just with some difference: the book’s height difference (Ha, sorry Taylor), Nick with shorter blonde (like Prince Robert from Cinderella 2021 length) and blue eyes, Taylor looking more like he did as Marco in the Kissing Booth 2 with shorter hair but a longer fringe

I don't know why, I just find the sort of idea of "xxx stays the same across universes" really endearing.

Anyways, yeah. I get the want for book accuracy since the idea of adaptation is “seeing the book come to life”, but sometimes it’s just not that doable. Thinking like this makes it a lot more fun for me, and honestly, I just want to be happy when I’m watching/reading stuff, and this does that.
