Hello! While searching for any HNMPL content on Tumblr, I found your old post where you mentioned differences between various productions, and I was wondering if you could go into more details about what changed between some of the different adaptations? I can't seem to find much information about that and I'm so curious!

Anon virtual cinnamon roll to you because I never see people on tumblr wanting to talk about spanish language musicals.

It takes very little to get me talking about that show. It is unironically one of my all time favorites despite a lot of people here acting like it isn't cool to say that. And I have been low key mapping what has changed in it for over a decade. So I know way too much about this topic in particular.

With the caveat that I have only watched the mexican versions. Mostly the revival more times than I want to admit, the 2006 proshot and the 2021 streams. So what I know from the spanish versions comes from old clips that are generally not available anymore, a little press and wikipedia. You can roughly split it into six versions (well seven according to me).

Original spanish production (2005)

Original mexican production (2006)

Mexican proshot (2006?)

Spanish revival (2013)

First and second mexican revivals (on and off between 2014 and 2018)

Second mexican revival (2020) and lockdown era streams (2021)

The first two are as far as I know the same with some names changed and jokes adapted for Mexico. Panchi became Chakas, Anselmo became Venancio and Ana lost the Anuca nickname. Idk if there was an explanation on why at the time but the very easy guess is a mix of making things work with mexican spanish and culture and trying to avoid some jokes on the names. (You can trust Mexico to mock spain, whether its fair or warranted is not for me to figure out). From the few photos available a few costumes were changed too but in general it was the same thing.

Then the mexican production got a proshot in late 2006 (I think). It was basically the same but a couple of scenes were altered to be filmed backstage and in act 2 Mecano member/co-composer/then director Nacho Cano made a special appearance during El Siete de Septiembre. That one is available in youtube as Hoy No Me Puedo Levantar 2005 (the year is wrong and its annoying because the show didn't premiere in CDMX until 2006).

From what I've been able to find it ran on and off in Spain for a few years and then launched a tour in 2008. And the mexican production ran until mid 2007, both mostly unchanged.

In 2013 after a ton of backstage drama the spanish revival opened. It was technically a new production, but it kept the basic stage setup and a lot of the visual language. And if we are talking about changes this is where the fun starts. To me it had good changes, bad changes and necessary changes.

The necessary. The original libretto feels very episodic. And in a way it makes sense, show is setup as if Mario was narrating the story to the audience. So things being setup like "the day we left our town" "the day we got a makeover" "the day we got high and Colate's girlfriend showed up" makes sense. But the scenes feel a little disconnected from each other. The revival version feels more like a single story that builds on itself. Some songs were cut and some were changed, jukebox shows tend to suffer from having at least one song feel forced and HNMPL had like five (still has a few that dont work if you think about it), so taking out some things makes the story flow better.

Wikipedia has a good list of the changes, but to me the highlights are: The contest becomes Rulé centric and the song changes from No Controles to Cruz de Navajas. The subplots become a lot more connected with the main story. A few characters feel more like real people and less like cartoon characters, Patricia is still intense and Guillermo is still efeminate but both show a lot more depth and are capable of becoming serious if the situation demands it. Malena switches from an over the top kinda clownish character to a femme fatale type which is a lot more believable as a ruthless producer that Mario falls for. Me cole en una fiesta thankfully becomes only Guillermo's number, he deserves that moment. Also the harmonies became a lot better.

The bad: it becomes a little gimicky, the show has always used projections and screens, but for this production they went a little overboard with it alternating between backdrops and full on concert style graphics pretty much every other scene. To me It feels distracting. Also design has always been [year it premiered] does sexy 80s, and they have never been scared of using the hot dancers wearing little clothing thing to sell, but this production took it a little too far, it looks too modern to me. The historical context was never adressed in depth but for the revival it blends into the background, I don't want the military onstage or anything but the show is set in Madrid in the 80s because it was a decade of massive social and political change that set the stage for a story like this to happen.

In 2014 the mexican revival opened (and this one I saw way too many times starting at previews so I literally witnessed the changes as they happened). It was basically a mix of the spanish revival with some elements of the original.

Costume design was the revival one with a few changes, set kept the same format of raised platform in the back, balconies to the sides and setpieces rolling into the stage from the back, but they changed the concert like aesthetics for simulating black brick and tower like blocks on the sides that roll in and out to represent different spaces. They kept the animated graphics and backdrops but limited those to two smaller screens on the back for most of the show (still feels distracting but not as much). Direction and choreo is mostly revival, but on some scenes they bring back the original one. Biggest one being the opening where Spain did beds coming down from the top of the stage (there is a video of this one in youtube) and Mexico went back to the three beds onstage.

There is a little more character development. María is now an aspiring actress who doesn't become famous but builds a career by the end, in the end her main role is still love interest, but this feels like a nice counterpart to Mario's meteoric rise and makes her feel more like a person. Guillermo is now an aspiring filmaker already deeply involved in the artistic scene which creates a better explanation on why the characters suddenly know everyone. There is a lot more focus in Venancio having a bar after leaving the music industry as the basically no one else has any plan aside from becoming a famous musician. Chakas is now the one who sings el uno el dos el tres, and that is a great choice, he has been the comic relief for most of the show, but also a core characteristic is him putting his friends above all so being the one who understands what Mario's actions mean makes a ton of sense. Afaik the Maria being an actress thing is a mexican addition the other three could be from the spanish revival but I haven't been able to find confirmation.

Cruz de navajas becomes the contest song, it didnt fit in its original spot and it doesn't really fit there either, but it is the song that namedrops the leads so it has to go in.

The mexican revival did a few breaks, went on tour, and announced closing followed by a "surprise" extension multiple times between 2014 and 2017. Then take an almost year long break only to return for a "final season for real and then never again" return in 2018 (spoiler it was not the final one).

Show stayed mostly the same through this but a few changes happened. Tu, Lía and El uno el dos el tres came and went a few times, iirc No hay marcha en Nueva York had a short return after being cut for the revival. The Guillermo has a crush on Mario plot was mostly dropped. The ensemble was reduced a few times and by the end it did feel small.

Also here is where they started with the stunt casting. And results were very mixed, some people who started in theater and later became famous as singers and some celebrities who could sing but weren't necessarily right for the roles. I do have thoughts on a lot of them, but the short version is who was good and who was bad is not necessarily who you would expect.

Officially the show didn't come back until early 2020, but there is something I say counts in here. There was a school production in mid 2019 directed by the mexican production resident director, and there were a few interesting changes. At the time it was a well known rumor that GOU (mexican producer) was trying to get the rights for the show to do another revival. Everyone knows that every musical theater school in here does a production of HNMPL (usually unlicensed), but this was licensed and had the mexican director involved. It is not hard to guess that those changes were authorized and a low key workshop for future productions. Changes I remember were: Changing the second half of Me cole en una fiesta for a different song and making a literal pride parade, it made no sense but it was so much fun to watch. The contest song was switched to a kinda metal version of Las curvas de esa chica. There was a pregnancy plot for Patricia, Ana and Colate's daughter appeared onstage which so far had only happened in the spanish revival, and there was an attempt to make Malena a more sympathetic character. Aside from some libretto edits most of that never showed up in later proffesional productions.

Early 2020 a short return season was announced. It had like two weeks of shows before lockdown and then it got two livestreamed shows. I don't like it. They made a lot of changes to cater to their singer leads and show becomes weird.

They cut Una rosa es una rosa and La fuerza del destino. Edited basically every scene that required Mario to dance so he didnt have to, changed a few scenes to include very artsy dance for reasons (and then included Maria in some of them for the streamed version). Costumes were based in the revival design but in a doing inspired looks way. It was not 80s and it was very concert. They tuned up the screen graphics to a concert style to the point where there were lyrics for some songs in there. Can you tell I don't like this version?

- maybe im a hopeless romantic, maybe it's the disconnected world, maybe it's your writing (most definitely) but it just feels like this fic itself, not the story, is from a different time in the best possible way. it's just so raw and honest and while these days picture perfect writing is wonderful, your way of passing on images and scenes to readers makes it feel like more than just an picture box, idk how else to describe it but i felt so many things while reading n that's how yk a piece of writing is good: if u question ur life after it lol

A/N: My first request, thank you anon! I hope you like it - I haven’t written much action before so I hope it’s a good one. This is sorta a bit of canon divergence, I guess - I kinda went ‘lol bye Ulaz’ in this one so apologies for the inaccuracy. Thank you so much for requesting!

Escape - Shiro x Reader

“y/n.”  

Your eyes drifted to the man beside you, who was tensed and ready to spring from his crouch at any moment, focusing intently on the passing Galra drone patrols. The two of you remained hidden, concealed by the shadows for now.

“Are we really doing this?���

Anxiety laced the tone of his voice, and you completely understood why. If you were caught right now - so close to the end of this Hell - you would both be killed, or worse. For all you knew, any sessions with the druids were certainly worse than death.  

Moving slowly, you took one of his palms in your own - the flesh and blood one, warm and calloused and human , rather than the Galra attachment he’d been given - and gave it a light squeeze. Smiling, though you doubted it was anything close to a convincing smile, you nodded once before turning to face the corridor. You inhaled deeply, before releasing a shaky breath. There were slight tremors in your hands, though you’d never admit to them.  

Everything had built up and come down to these precious few minutes.  

You had been assigned onto the Kerberos mission alongside Shiro, Matt and Sam as an engineer; in case anything broke on the ship, you were supposedly the one to fix it. Not that your skills had really been used, once the four of you were all abducted by aliens. While Sam and Matt had ended up being sent to a labour camp, you and Shiro were regularly fighting in the arena - Shiro more regularly than you, obviously. You were no Champion, but you managed to scrape through each fight you were tossed about - barely. Each one still came inches away from taking your life.  

Which was getting to be a problem. Shiro was the Champion, an undisputed fighter that still hadn’t lost a match, and his bouts in the arena were eagerly anticipated by the audiences they were displayed to. Your fighting technique was scrappy, barely winning the fights using whatever underhand tactics you could manage to sneak in - and the Galra who took pleasure in seeing violence were beginning to be less than entertained. You knew that soon enough, you’d be shoved into that arena with a robeast a hundred times more powerful than you, and by that point your only purpose would be to die in an “entertaining” way.  

So, you’d put that brain of yours into gear. On any occasion you’d been escorted from your cell to the arena, you paid extra attention to your surroundings. Over time, you’d formed a reliable mental map of the corridors, knowing the layout off by heart.  

After raising the idea to Shiro - who expressed concern for the risks, but agreed on the grounds that you were most likely going to die if you were stuck here much longer - the two of you formed a solid plan - one that would hopefully get the both of you out. You’d also made the agreement that if one of you was unable to get out safely, the other would still try their hardest to escape.  

Not that you were really planning on holding up your end of the deal, and you doubted Shiro was either, but… it was something. The two of you were… well. You didn’t really know what you were, if you were entirely honest. Shiro meant the universe to you, and you were definitely past the point of “just friends”, but it wasn’t as if there were many opportunities to go out on dates whilst being imprisoned by aliens. There weren’t any definite, clear boundaries - it was less of a line between ‘friends’ and ‘lovers’, and more like the blurry, messy grey scribble that appeared on your orbiter development plans after you’d rejected them.  

Only one thing was certain; you were trying your damn hardest to get that man out of there alive, even if you died in the process.

Which led you back here; crouched in the shadows, retracing your steps in your mental map whilst Shiro tapped the wall of the corridor, timing the sentries’ steps carefully. At what he deemed to be the right moment, he grabbed your hand and the two of you made your way down the corridor quickly, pausing again at a safe spot.  

Well. “Safe” wasn’t exactly an adjective that applied anywhere here, but close enough.  

This pattern - waiting, moving, waiting, moving, waiting, moving - continued for a while. Occasionally, Shiro’s hand would move to grip yours and would squeeze tightly, as if making sure you were still standing next to him. The action was reassuring for both parties, calming your rapid heart rate if only a slight amount.  

Of course, neither of you expected it to be this simple the whole way. When you were close to the hangar, where the escape pods resided, the concentration of sentries patrolling increased dramatically, and there was no easy way of getting through them. Feeling a slight tug on your tattered shirt, you crouched next to Shiro as you both observed the room ahead.  

“We need to plan this one out carefully,” Shiro whispered. “If we split up and stick to the sides of the room then we should be fine until -”

A sharp buzz cut him off as a beam of magic sliced the air directly over your heads. Turning to face the source, your heart sank at the view of multiple druids gathering in the space behind you. Not only that, but the magic attack had attracted the attention of the sentries ahead too, leaving you surrounded.

“Did you really think it would be so easy as to just stroll out of this ship?”  

The blood in your veins ran cold.  

Haggar.  

Shiro gripped your wrist tightly, his breath audibly quickening in your ears. “Stay with me,” you muttered under your breath, drawing yourself closer to him. “What’s our plan?”  

To your dismay, the man stood beside you was frozen and pale, struggling to form words. “I - I don’t - I -”  

You didn’t fault him for it. How could you? Shiro hadn’t spoken about what had happened to him while at the mercy of the druids, led by Haggar, but you gathered enough to know that whatever had occurred had been traumatic.  

Squeezing his hand once, you drew to the side, readying yourself for the onslaught of attacks. As the first shots began to fire, Shiro snapped to attention, as the two of you stood prepared for a battle you were almost certainly going to lose.  

“You get into the escape pod. I’ll hold them off!”  And God, you almost rolled your eyes. Because as intelligent and quick-witted as this man was, sometimes he just didn’t get it .

“You really think I’m going to leave you here alone?” you yelled across the hall, as Shiro decked a sentry in the face (well… did sentries have faces? Helmet) and took its gun. Turning to face you, he yelled as he began shooting.  

“Only one of us can get out of here safely. And that one is going to be you.”

Oh, for -  

“Shiro, do you remember that old song I got you to listen to back on Earth?”  You lunged for a sentry as he responded, kicking its leg out from under it and yanking as hard as you could to pull the head from its shoulders. You succeeded, sparks flying from the disconnected wires.  

“You mean the Fall Out Boy one?”  

“Yup! We’re goin’ down swingin’.”  

Although you could sense his exasperation from across the room, Shiro didn’t argue, simply continued firing at the druids from within the horde of enemies you stood in. Returning to the task at hand, you began working with the wiring of another fallen sentry, pulling its arm off to whack another drone that got too close for comfort.

“The sentries all operate off one order, like a hivemind, so if I disconnect one…” you shouted over the din, “… then I should be able to disable the whole lot!”  

After some trial and error - which was stressful with a bunch of robots trying to grab and shoot at you, though Shiro was doing a good job of covering - you found the right set of wires to pull, and the sentries all dropped at once.  

For one moment, everything was still. You and Shiro stared at each other in the stillness, before -  

You ran. The druids followed.  

Meeting in the middle of the room, Shiro threw you a gun, and the two of you began firing at the advancing druids while retreating closer and closer to the pod.  

“You are outnumbered!” Haggar, again, screaming at the two of you. Tightening your hold on the gun, you continued firing back at the druids. While their magic attacks were more damaging, they took longer to fire - leaving you gaps to shoot while their defenses were down. You couldn’t help but yell as one of the beams of light singed the very top of your hair, though.  

“She’s preparing something big,” Shiro told you, eyes not leaving the enemy. “She’s confident, she’s got something up her sleeve.”  

Glancing upwards, you could see he was right. Haggar was building a magic attack that appeared no different from the others you were currently dodging, but the smirk on her face told you that something was unique. Who knew what that attack would do; it could be more advanced, designed to be impossible to miss - it could cause irreparable damage to both of you.  

Her attack was building, gathering strength - in a last, desperate move, you grabbed Shiro and dived the rest of the short distance to the pod, the two of you landing on the floor inside with a hard smack. The pod closed just before the beam of magic could hit you both, and the two of you were released into space.  

It was as if every muscle in your body had relaxed at once. Leaning backwards, you reached for Shiro’s hand once more. He gripped it as if it were a lifering, and you pretended not to notice his shaking as he brought his head to rest against his knees.  

Eventually his head rose as he smiled tiredly, dark grey eyes meeting yours.

“y/n… we made it.”    

Rising from the floor, you led him to the window of the pod, where the view of the stars awaited.  

“That’s right,” you murmured, a smile pulling at the edges of your mouth as you wrapped an arm around his torso. “We made it.”  

It was far from over. Haggar was still alive, you had no idea where you were going, and both of you were left with an abundance of mental and physical scars.  But, as you felt the cool sensation of Shiro’s lips against your temple whilst the two of you watched the stars, you were fairly content with how things turned out.

Episode 2 - "Fuck I’m on the cursed tribe" ~Moth

dennis is very sneaky. we all had a tribe call and he said he'd come later but he was actually doing the hunt challenge. like that's totally fair, it's just even afterward he acted as if he was not really focusing on it either. im going to play the game assuming he has something, just in case.

Dhsjdjsjskksks. First tribal done. We just finished the taboo challenge ... A good bonding experience with my tribe. However, I have a feeling we lost. 😂😂😂😂😂😂 The fact that I was the guesser. Rip. 

I filmed confessionals but my internet got disconnected hahaha so that's neat. Hopefully there will be youtube videos here soon, but new update Jodi and I are in alliances with Dennis and brayden separately which I think would be hilarious if they were also in am alliance together. And it will be funny it my internet is still out for the challenge tomorrow since I'm the guesser 😆 whoops

So this is the beginning of round 2 and here are my thoughts. Might purposely not be helpful in the taboo challenge lol but i have to do it in a way that doesn't show im throwing it? tbh i say this now but when i start playing the urge to win comes in ugh but i just wanna vote one of these people out. I also took a stroll through the wiki page for this org and i love that some of these people (esp brayden and amy) have played before and their stats are there like yassss give me ammunition yassss!!!! anywho i dont care if we win or lose tomorrow i think i set myself up nicely within the tribe and i still really dont think any of these people won the hunt challenge on my tribe but again who knowssss. if we lose the logic would probably be go for josh or ginny aka the least active people buttt i dont think so like i don't wanna go the boring route. i need to keep josh close to get to merge with him we have friends on the other tribeeeeeee so i need them to survive and i need him and i to survive till we swap or merge to link up. im also trying to win a hunt challenge but my god y'all have me fucked up!!!!!!!!! i guess we shall see what happens tomorrowwwwww

It was nice sitting the challenge out, I'm busy tomorrow and the fact that they could complete it is good for me. Also, if we lose, nobody can blame me for the loss. Only drawback is it appears to me some people can be getting close by bonding over funny things in a game. I have to go back and see who may be close, I don't think I'm next on the chopping block, but I'm definitely not in control. To me, I do not need to be number one on this tribe, I just need to survive the next tribal and hopefully make it to the swap at 14 or 15.

HEY SO KIND OF A LOT OF DEVELOPMENTS TO MY GAME we didn't lose first challenge!! thats great. whatever. no tribal. I've been trying to connect with fellow tribemates but overall we're all pretty quiet. I did have a small 30 minute call with Jay where we kinda connected on somewhat of a game level. I kinda get the vibe that he may not fully trust me or he might see my as a threat, but I want to work with him. I also really like Anastasia and Elle, I think I can connect with them more on a more genuine level. Perfect scenario for me would be setting up a trio alliance of Me + Elle + Anastasia, and then having Jay on the side as my actual #1. idk if I can pull that off, but that was my plan heading into round 2 BUT. AS ROUND 2 STARTED, MY GAY ASS WON THE HUNT CHALLENGE. AMAZING. idk HOW I managed it because like?? I finished and found the hidden link within like 20 minutes? Statistically very unlikely BUT I'm so glad I did it. I WON A SAFETY WITHOUT POWER. It's kinda like a hidden immunity idol, except slightly worse because I can't actually partake in tribal at all. we went ahead and competed in the Taboo challenge last night and boy it was kinda rough. We lost a LOTTA points because we kept accidentally saying forbidden words (I lost us 2 points, woops). But we ended up with a semi decent score. Elle did an amazing job guessing. I really hope we can pull this out. SO YEAH SORRY THATS KIND OF A LOT. OVERALL I FEEL LIKE IM IN A DECENT POSITION, WAY BETTER NOW THAT I HAVE A SWP. I wanna further my position in the game with some allies now. That's my next biggest goal. toodles!!!

So I've figured out that Amy is a comp beast based on us discussing our old seasons and how she did in those: she always talks down her abilities because she's worried she's being painted as a big challenge threat, but I don't think she realizes that doesn't matter to me at all. Ultimately, I think she needed to be at tonight's challenge more than me, so I decided it's ok to sit out since I'm sitting out only because somebody has to, not because I don't want to play. In tribal challenges, it means she'll help keep us winning tribal immunity, and further down the line, if anything, I'll be using her as my "Ken" and if she wins everything, it'll keep immunity away from people I want out. 

I think I did much better in Taboo than I did in endurance, so I'm happy about that. Hopefully my performance this round can help me redeem myself with my tribemates.

So! We did the Taboo challenge and got second place, probs wouldve got first if we didnt get deductions but also we did so good so whatever 😂. I definitely kinda pushed for us to do the challenge last night bc it's Dylan's birthday and I didn't want to have to like, be anywhere specifically today 😅. But yeah we did super good and now I'm gonna go talk to ppl bc I've been gone all day lol

SO. Here’s the rundown: We lost. Again. Pushing for Shaad to go. Moth, Jared, and Danny all agree with him going. So far I’m getting good vibes with everyone. Danny says he gets along with Jared well and doesn’t talk to Moth that much. Plus, Jared, Moth and I have that little alliance. Jared and I also get along well. Worried for Moth as she doesn’t seem to message a lot. This tribal... I’m feeling safe. I might even make an alliance with Jared, Danny and I. Worst case scenario for next challenge we lose and Moth goes. 

Yay we won again! Anyways, Dennis messaged me tonight talking about how everybody else knows each other from playing Stings games before. He said he checked the series wiki and got freaked out and told me that we're two newbies amongst vets. While he's telling the truth, I'm actually not too panicked because 1) I actually checked out the wiki before he told me about it and 2) I have pretty decent relationship with Amy to incentivize her to keep me around. I worked tightly with Amy for the specific reason that I knew she'll have others to work with, and for her to keep me as a loyal number. I also know that she was runner up of another series and she already recognizes the target on her, so I doubt she wants to risk me putting a bigger one. WOW FOR ONCE I'M NOT THE FLAMING TARGET I LIKE THIS

So, tbh I've done some research about some previous seasons and I noticed Moth and Jessica have played together before. Moth still has not talked to me but Jessica has been overly friendly. I know they have a group message with Jared and I know he can be the split vote between what happens in our tribal tomorrow. Jared claims he has voted for Moth but we will truly see tomorrow. But honestly, if he chooses us, then Jessica is next unless the tribe swap or merge has happened.

That im one of the strongest competitors on my tribe, Dennis feels like he is on the outs, but that connects us so i can pull him in as an ally.

Phantom

Jodi: Jodi remains at the top of the tribe for much of the same reason as last round. Now, she is even in two alliances with no one wanting to come for her nor do they see her as playing both alliances. Hopefully Jodi’s quick alliance making and constant worrying will help strengthen her defenses in the later rounds to come when people will be looking at her more closely.

Amy: Amy is still playing that stellar UTR game. No one seems to register her as a threat despite their access to the wiki and her performance in the challenge. Her social game is just too strong. Additionally, her greater willingness to work with Dennis than Jodi’s willingness to work with him may provide some good allies for Amy if she ever wants to distance herself from Jodi.

Brayden: Brayden rises in the rankings from last round as he has become more closely aligned with Amy and Jodi. The trio seem to see themselves as the only “active” ones on their tribe and are very quick to bond. Additionally, unlike Dennis, Brayden is not viewed with suspicion by either Jodi or Amy. They definitely feel more like a core alliance than they did with Dennis. Furthermore, Brayden is poised to get the people he wants gone out of this game. He is targeting Josh and Dennis which are good targets, especially the latter. All it takes is for Brayden to push a little for Dennis and I am sure the two girls will take the bait. Finally, Brayden’s connection with Ginnifer is very beneficial since he seems to be the only one willing to work with her at the moment. This gives him a very easy ally and Ginnifer doesn’t have much of a choice besides working closely with him. It is certainly an easy number for Brayden if he ever wanted to backstab Jodi or Amy in the future.

Josh: What lands Josh here is that he performed well in the challenge and is easy to like. Interacting with Josh on calls is always a pleasure. However, by not being part of that main trio, he is in danger of being voted out on a whim. Despite that, he seems to be, in my eyes, the least likely out of the bottom 3 to be voted out. Additionally, there is paranoia around people’s “experience” with ORGs surrounding these bottom 3 from others (despite the fact that the top 3 is composed of 2 people with ORG experience). Josh gets this heat the least.

Dennis: Dennis is in real danger if this tribe goes to tribal council. If Brayden pushes hard enough, Jodi can be easily swayed into turning on Dennis. He needs to back off with the strategy talk and just be more social. What saves him from last is that he is in that alliance with Jodi and Amy. This might make Jodi hesitant about targeting Dennis so soon as she may see him as a number. Additionally, Amy does seem keen on keeping Dennis around for a little while which would help his longevity. Hopefully Dennis can realize people’s perceptions of him before it is too late considering that he gives great confessionals and is one of my favorite players this season.

Ginnifer: Ginnifer may be on the bottom, but she definitely has a chance at avoiding being voted out. Most talk around Ginny is about how she is hard to socialize with, but I am sure, when the strategic game starts becoming more important, she can navigate out of this position. After all, she does have Brayden advocating for her which can definitely help. She would need to push for Dennis if she wants to survive until the swap at this point.

Fools

Jared: He takes the number 1 spot on this tribe as he is working with both “sides.” He is serving as the perfect double agent for Danny and Shaad. Additionally, he is making the smart move of getting rid of an obvious duo wherein he was the third wheel of that alliance. He has a great strategic mind on his shoulders, but is it too early for him to show that off? Regardless, he has earned this top spot by avoiding the target cleanly and betraying his allies perfectly. Jared is definitely a contender for the winner spot as he has shown some excellent gameplay these past two rounds.

Danny: Danny has done well in avoiding the target this round as well. He seems to be more sociable and active than Shaad which is the main reason that he is not the one getting Jessica’s and Moth’s vote. Additionally, he was the one that brought Jessica’s and Moth’s pre-existing relationship to Jared’s attention which caused this flip to happen in the first place. Finally, Danny made an excellent move by pairing himself with Jared as this duo could be something fearsome to go up against in the future. The cards are being laid out for a force to be reckoned with and I am excited to see what Danny will do in the future.

Shaad: It is hard to tell if Shaad did anything himself to avoid being voted out, but, regardless, he did something right by aligning with Danny and Jared instead of ratting to Jessica and Moth. In fact, even if he does rat, he will still land himself at number 3. He is not going to get voted out here, and has an established alliance moving forward. And now that he is putting more focus on the game, I am happily anticipating what he can accomplish now.

Jessica: Jessica is being blindsided tonight. However, at the very least, she is not the one going. Her performance in challenges have helped her avoid the target for the time being. Here we can see that the boys weren’t inactive, they were just inactive with her which spells doom for Jessica if this tribe goes to tribal council again. Unfortunately, the boys found out about her prior connection with Moth. The only thing Jessica could have done was to distance herself from Moth at the beginning of the game, but that seemed unlikely since people were inactive with her. I hope Jessica is able to survive until a swap because it would be devastating to see her go so early.

Moth: There is nothing Moth did that landed them here. It was just an unfortunate circumstance wherein they are targeted because of a prior connection. Additionally, I doubt Moth is going to see this coming.

S.E.E.S.

Colin: With an advantage in his hands and him being the most popular bachelor on his tribe, Colin is quick to make allies and his allies like it that way. It feels as if everyone wants to ally with Colin. His activity in the earlier stages of the game have definitely born fruit.

Elle: Similar to Colin, everyone wants to work with Elle. Her social game is just that strong. Nothing much else to say besides what I said before, but the challenge definitely helped raise Elle’s standings in the tribe.

Anastasia: Similar to last round. Nothing much to say.

Jay: He is keeping out of the spotlight which is good.

Babs: No developments. Still viewed in the same way though has noticeably been less unhinged in the tribe chat.

Jennifer: Still the same as last time: seemingly inactive and might be targeted for it.

I loved the dynamic between them, and I might be wrong, but I REALLY liked the hint of them suddenly not being equals, but this making them bond/understand each other even more than before? Also for focusing on Elros’ sadness more than Elrond’s! And I didn’t notice at first, but do I detect name puns? “implacable as the stars’ map in the night…in the foam of Elros’s wake…”

AND I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE WOULD SEE THOSE PUNS….well tbh given that Part I of that fic is just one solid metaphor idk if that was a reasonable expectation. It’s also one of those ‘writing fic is so much better than meta!’ things, because Elros’s name was easy, and was doubly ‘YES’ after I found out -ros specifically means ‘foam in the wake of a boat or ship’ not just foam in general, but for the longest time I was wondering how to get Elrond’s name to resonate with him in a meaningful out-of-universe way (I’m sure he was an astronomer along with 38462 other things that would cause someone to become identified primarily as a loremaster above all his other stuff, but you know, something that related the night sky to him), but then I was just writing that passage and it came out easy as snapping.

And yes lol, the ‘suddenly not being equals’ thing is definitely one of my favorite elements of their relationship as I like to imagine it :) I definitely do see it as kinda like…Elros for most of his youth being more kind of lost and unsatisfied and troubled, out of the two of them, and everything - his sense of belonging and his leadership talents and everything - really coming together for him when he takes up with the Edain, but this not exactly being an easy thing to come to terms with because I tend to see young E&E as fairly codependent due to having no one but each other who both really understands them and who they can totally trust.

I’m also very glad you liked that I focused mostly on Elros’s sadness! I’ve been longing for ages for more stuff about Elros’s feelings about his sibling relationship when there’s so much (lazily-done dfjhgjdg) content for the vice-versa. And I’ve been especially forever feeling a disconnect from most fandom in the severity and all-encompassing-ness I see in the desolation and blighting and torment and weight of sorrows and cares inherent in the end-stage of the Edain of the first age, (as well as ‘human’ nature in general (as described in the Athrabeth)), and THAT (along with very estel-not-amdir hope) is the thing that for me is most strongly characteristic of the Edain at this historical period. I see it as very important for a person who identifies himself with the Edain and who would be suited to understand and value their history and ease/lead them into the strange new and completely and utterly different era of early Numenor, which is as far from post-Bragollach Beleriand as is possible to get.

I think they got a real point. How you can suffer and be in pain with a “lie”, a fiction, but also how you can feel joy and hope out of the same lie/fiction.The dillema of fiction, of experimenting with taboo topics, in this example the killing, and questioning how much it plays a part into the reality side.

But in this case, it’s going to another level. Like questioning human existence in SOMA. If you take a real human mind and place it in a robotic body, can it still be called a human existence? Can humans scanned and preserved in a “fiction” still be called human?

I really enjoyed the story. The extra effort they put on CGs really enrichened everything. I’m not sure how I feel about the big big big plot twist yet. I guess it’s something to slowly digest over time. Can’t say this is my favorite.
