Knocked over , lost bad. Iftart 31.3.2023
---------- Forwarded message --------- >
I am so unsettled with all that is happening, discombobulated....is the word. I feel as if truly everything around me is falling to pieces. Each day I feel that this country is becoming more and more like Nazi Germany. This morning when I got up and looked at the headlines of the Time of Israel I just felt like going back to bed and pulling the blankets over my head. I can't seem to settle down to anything.
Amongst other things, on the personal level, I lost my little bag with the ID and credit card. This is no time to be without an ID with all the demonstrations going on and I went the next day to apply for a new one at the Ministry of the Interior. This was on Sunday when I was with Daphne. Last night a man phoned from the Dan Panorama and said that one of their visitors, Sheldon Wolff, had found the bag on the ground and brought it to him. He left his card in the bag so I have just written to thank him.
Today I was up at 5 to go to the checkpoint. We took bedding and clothes which I had got from one of the women here and also all sorts of good things. Kamal, our driver, is such a good person and after our last visit he and his family collected money and took meat and all sorts of other products to the family on the first day of Ramadan. We also gave Kamal money and my friend, Shlomit, with whom I go to the DCO also gave but that we gave to Kamal as we do not want to set a precedent and he said that he and his family would help to buy new clothes for the children.
But then it turned out that the man from the hotel would only be there in the afternoon and I also had an appointment for a CT and then there is a demonstration this evening that I want to go to. The weather is bitterly cold and it took two buses to the hotel there and back so I cancelled the CT. I feel so disorganized but the situation is so tense that I wanted the old ID even if it is no longer valid as a backup with the receipt for the new one.
What can I say about what is happening here.
Right-wing activists accost, threaten ‘leftist’ drivers at 2 kibbutz entrances
Crowd burns tires, throws stones, demands community residents praise Netanyahu, Ben Gvir in order to get home, in the latest in a series of aggressive acts by government supporters
https://www.timesofisrael.com/right-wing-activists-accost-threaten-leftist-drivers-at-2-kibbutz-entrances/
And the PDF at the bottom is also terrifying. What is not said there is that the police can go to any house under the pretext that they are looking for arms and I am sure that it will be used also for any activist whom they wish to frighten. And now that Netanyahu has given Ben Gvir the go ahead for his stormtroopers militia I can just imagine how that law will be used. And also this statement with the remark at the end
National guard will target ‘lack of governance,’ terror, nationalistic and organized crime and illegal firearms proliferation; demonstrators protest plan
But last night seven of us went down to friends in Hebron to join them in a meal after the end of Ramadan for the day. It was rather funny as someone mentioned that we were two peoples sitting in different time. Israel has gone over to daylight saving which I dislike as I always mention when we do and the Palestinians have remained in real time. Not for political reasons but to make life easier. At the end of Ramadan they will go over to summer time but until then they will remain with the old clock as that way
they have one hour less to fast.
We drove all the way to Hebron in pouring rain. We are so welcomed by all the family. It will be very sad next Ramadan and I hope they will invite us as the couple that are close to them are leaving for Germany. We did not speak about it. It is a very painful subject.
When we left we each left with a plate of food. This is enough for me for an army so tomorrow Saturday I have invited people to come and share with me for lunch,
I think when I get back from the demonstration tonight.....and I just realised that I can not use Gett with the credit card system so I have to make sure to have enough money on me. I am definitely taking a taxi. I just feel too tired and tense to take a bus in this weather and at night. In fact what I would really like to do now is to take a double vodka and two sleeping pills and get into bed. I don't think I have ever felt so shaky. I have the heating on but still feel cold.
The previous night was not so happy. It was freezing cold ...in fact I put on three layers which I never do. I was very tired and felt very listless but this was a demonstration against the proposed stormtrooper law of Ben Gvir. Everything was quiet..Some of those on the right were standing with signs which said that the Torah is more important than democracy but no one bothered to speak to them. As I always say if it were the other way around anyone on the left doing such a thing at a rally of the right would be torn to pieces. As it is one the ladies I know said that that when she was walking back from the Knesset she found herself with a group of those and they started throwing water at her. The police saw this and did nothing!
We were only about 200 and they hemmed us in with police bars. I try to keep to where is it quiet but it does not always work. Suddenly some policemen came running to where I was leaning and pulled the bars back. I started to try to get out of their way and one of them as he came past pushed me.... not intentionally but they come in with such force they do not look at what they are doing and I went staggering, eventually landing on my back. Immediately a group of people surrounded me and helped me get up. I was not hurt but my ass was sore this morning. One young woman stuck with me and then said that a reporter from Ha'aretz wanted to speak to someone. Aft first I said not and then she said it is important that we all speak up, especially the old people like you. So I did and then she offered to drive me home. At first because it was completely out of her way but she insisted and I was so cold and tired and tense after this week that I gratefully accepted.
Today I went to see Tar instead of going to Sheikh Jarrar. I was suitably punished . I am thinking of whom is the person I loathe most of all and will tell them to go and see an absolutely wonderful movie
Shabbat Shalom
