Misty Quigley Headcanons

Misty Quigley Headcanons/thoughts bc idk if i am her or im in love with her

Friends and I agree Misty gives off raised by grandparents energy (I mean this as a compliment, some may not tho idk) and ik they mention her parents vaguely here and there but I could totally see her parents passing sometime while she was young like in elementary school, or being unable to care for her for some reason, and her grandparents taking over as her guardians

Very bad at games like pictionary or charades. Good or at least decent at chess, but somehow god tier at checkers

Has tried to be one of those people that wears cool, funky glasses, but ultimately reverts back to her standard pair cuz they just suit her better 

Ate strawberry lip gloss as a kid

In the wilderness, she does in fact have favorite foods even though she knows she shouldn’t be picky. But whenever they manage to gather more of the berries she likes, she always sneaks a little more than she should.

Took several tries to get the bob length hair to work for her, but she was determined. Took her way too long to realize she had to ditch the bangs for the side swoop. Now she hasn’t changed her hair since she got it right. 

Not big on shoes for fashion. She sticks to her crocs for work, and for everything else she mostly chooses to wear comfy sneakers she’s had for years. Has other shoes for appropriate occasions, but sticks to what she knows if she has the choice. If she’s ever adventurous in her fashion it is just about any other article of clothes. 

Not sure this qualifies as a headcanon since its just a general short person experience, but all her pajama pants are way too long on her. She’s also picky about dresses (generally doesn’t like to wear them) since they tend to be at odd lengths for her too. Rolls her jeans, giving her a permanent retro look even when that isn’t the trend. 

Was never into makeup because she didn’t feel like she was good at it, at least until Jackie helped her get ready for doomcoming that one time. Since then, she’s liked to experiment with it here and there. She likes sparkly highlighter and blue eyeshadow, and even as an adult has a fondness for these though she doesn’t really wear them anymore. 

Has been a size 5 shoe since she was 11. Has had a pair of pink converse almost as long. 

Not big on physical books once audiobooks/e-readers become an option 

Wanted the animals to like her in the wilderness but of course they end up preferring Akilah. She still sometimes liked to stop by and talk to the bunnies though, when nobody was around to hear. 

Before the crash, and honestly even during and after, she’s a very big daydreamer. I think generally Misty is someone who’s very aware of her surroundings, observant, attentive, but when she’s at home or in any sort of waiting period, or like in line for something, she absolutely drifts off to whatever fantasy or subject has captured her mind as of late. She’s got an active brain, I think it works a mile a minute and she can drop in and out of her daydreams in a snap

Speaking of snap, she always uses outdated slang. But like. Really outdated. Similarly, she says a lot of those white people-isms, especially when she’s young (ex. “News flash buddy,” “you’re barking up the wrong tree,” “whoopsie daisy” etc)

you know what? i’m gonna say it. euphoria’s usage of the word ‘retarded’ is so outdated especially for a show that’s always on the nose with it’s politics. maddy isn’t a character from a 2000s teen drama film, and it doesn’t make her anymore edgy or cool for saying everyone is “fucking retarded”. of course no one cares enough to say anything about it because no one gives a real shit about disabled people. i get the show isn’t afraid of using offensive language, but every time any other slur was used, it was meant to make you cringe and feel uncomfortable. when maddy calls something out as retarded, it’s seen as ‘iconic’. not only does this dialogue just make her character feel outdated, but it’s also unnecessarily edgy and adds nothing, and could easily be replaced with any other word. instead, it adds an actual stigma to an already stigmatized group. it’s so frustrating to see people requote that in gifs or screencaps not giving a shit about how it effects a minority, caring more about how ‘relatable’ it is. fucking yuck

god. long post as i port over some twitter thoughts but. im catching up on tuc2 and i just don't want to gloss over the fact that d20 wrote a white woman becoming the chosen one of a culturally asian tradition and organisation. like it was already :/ in the first season but tuc2 making it clear that sofie made said organisation change bc they were doing things wrong makes it feel worse lol!

it's easy to not understand the full ramifications bc dnd is a theatre of the mind and i don't have to physically see a white woman at the head of an organisation with explicitly asian roots but i don't want to and can't ignore what they've made text here. deeply sucks as an asian woman to have to watch asian people be, if not villainised, distrusted and implied to be wrong for wanting to hold onto a tradition that a white woman is trying to change/improve upon, even if said tradition is outdated

like if sofie WAS asian everything would be fine bc asian media often has that trend of change vs tradition and seeing a young asian immigrant woman in america work to change the harmful parts of her culture and embrace change would've been everything to me. and ik we can't exactly retcon it now and im not saying we allow emily to suddenly play an asian woman but like. instead we just got a deeply uncomfortable and harmful narrative about white saviourism where two white people are at the forefront of a fight about asian tradition

sonic hasn’t really been written out of character, atleast for me - he’s kind, compassionate, etc, and ik you’re gonna say ‘But he’s too forgiving!!!’ yet, in the games, he could have permanently offed metal sonic, chaos, even EGGMAN, but he didn’t because he’s not a fucking killer

As demonstrated here, just because Eggman always manages to survive doesn’t mean Sonic is considerate towards Eggman’s wellbeing. Sonic might not go out of his way to kill the doctor, but he’s clearly not too fussed about whether he survives or not. If he dies, well, that’s that. If he doesn’t, well, more adventures for him.

As for other villains, Sonic is hardly bloodthirsty, but he’s perfectly willing to kill if he has no other choice, or doom his enemy to an even worse fate. Just ask Erazor Djinn.

shadow’s characterization sucks but that can be chalked up to executive meddling

If mandates alone are the reason for Shadow’s characterization in IDW, how come he never comes close to that level of assholishness in Forces, TSR, or the Sonic Channel stories?

eggman is actually still a very menacing threat, in my opinion at least. if he was canonically nothing more then a big joke then the whole tinker conflict most likely wouldn’t have been a thing, bc everyone wouldn’t have cared and just went 'ehhh eggman doesnt do anything menacing anyway it’s fine’. and, besides, eggman has had some VERY threatening and scary moments in the idw comics, specifically the metal virus saga.

Yeah... early on.

Early on, Eggman was built up as a threat that the characters seemed to take seriously, and that continued into the start of the zombot arc... Then during that arc, Eggman suddenly dropped his IQ points in order to justify Starline’s betrayal and the Deadly Six muscling their way into the plot, and things haven’t quite been the same since then. Despite being Sonic’s arch-enemy, he’s been treated like a filler villain, appearing infrequently compared to Starline and Zavok, and Sonic continues to insist that Tinker is the real person, despite Tinker being nothing more than a false identity during the doctor’s amnesiac state.

The heroes may not necessarily be throwing potshots at Eggman, but the comic is. The WRITERS are throwing potshots at him via Starline’s constant insistence that he’s superior, and Surge’s smug dismissal of his work and jobbing Metal Sonic. Ian Flynn himself has said in no uncertain terms that Eggman never has a solid plan... which is simply untrue, as a lot of pivotal moments in the games would never have happened if Eggman wasn’t capable of planning.

SPEAKING of, that’s a case of eggman losing control of yet another powerful force! LIKE HE IS PRONE TO DO! Cubot literally LAMPSHADES it! Eggman/Robotnik/whatever you call him has character flaws, his unwillingness to tread old ground and his obsession with sonic being the main ones.

Lampshading is not a substitute for good writing.

Eggman losing control got old a long time ago, and the comic lampshading it was already groanworthy even before the zombot arc revived it. Said lampshading was also arguably outdated, since Eggman in the games has had a much better track record from Colours onward, with the Zeti being the only real example of him losing control since then... which wasn’t even his fault, since if Sonic hadn’t knocked the Conch out of his hand, he would have kept them under his control easily.

The only way the lampshade is relevant in a post-2010 context is to bring the trend back in full force and regularity... which is exactly what the comic ended up doing.

No one is saying Eggman can’t or doesn’t have flaws. He’s immature. He’s overconfident. He’s arrogant. He’s prone to the occasional oversight that can work to Sonic’s advantage. But you can give a villain flaws WITHOUT undermining their effectiveness, and after a dozen examples of monsters and villains dragging Eggman through the mud for the sake of earning themselves easy cred, I can’t see how this does anything good for ol’ Ivo at this point. Just because something is a tradition doesn’t make it good. IMO, it should never have become a tradition in the first place.

tl;dr, IDW doesn’t have bad characterizations (Except Shadow), you just miss archie

Plot twist: I don’t care for Archie either. It has its decent parts here and there, but I was never head over heels for it, and in fact, a major reason for my frustration with IDW is BECAUSE it’s Archie 2.0, right down to Surge being a female Scourge and Starline being reduced to a Snively 2.0

Starline is going to lose, though, right? Starline's arrogance eventually has to come crashing down on him, making all of his bluster about succeeding where Eggman failed get proven wrong. I know it sucks to wait, but it's going to happen since he is one of the bad guys. Either Sonic beats him, Eggman beats him, or his own minions betray him - possibly some combination of the three. But at the end of the day, his solo plan will blow up in his face. His claim to superiority will be wrong.

And Eggman's reputation will still be dragged through the mud regardless. And other characters were/are still mutilated in the process.

Not much of a victory if you ask me.

One of the biggest milestones one of my brand’s, Red Stripe, experienced in the last 12 months was the development of a solid global social media platform. It sounds simple, but when you are trying to make a brand global, **the nuance of trying to make your Brand relevant to consumers yet consistent to its message - on different continents, languages and cultures - is more challenging than it looks.**

The biggest mistakes you see marketers make with executing a digital-first strategy?

Saying ‘digital-first strategy’ is, in itself, the biggest mistake - because the conversation should be around being mobile-first. It’s not about serving ads to consumers on the go via mobile devices, but about creating immersive experiences that can be accessed on any device any time.  

 How is 'data-driven marketing’ evolving in your team?

**Data-driven marketing has evolved to social-insights driven marketing**. Brands are trying to use social media listening to stay relevant in their category and open up new categories of growth. Now, when we start discussing new ideas and strategies, we start the conversation with what is trending on social to see if there are insights there that can help guide our marketing strategy.

What are the big trends you see as we get into 2020? 

I believe retail brands need to pay attention to what is happening with Amazon Go. This concept of checkout-free stores is really going to disrupt the retail space and once consumers adapt to the convenience of it (which they certainly will), it will be hard to contain this disruption. Brands need to balance being intrusive and inclusive with their experiences.

Marketers make one of two fatal errors in social media marketing: they don’t measure properly, and they don’t focus enough on providing value to the customer. If you’re adding value to the lives of your audience, and measuring that exchange well, you’ll generally be pretty successful.

Approaching the ‘attribution challenge' in the omnichannel age 

**There’s a theoretical right way, and a practical way to attribution. The truth is, the “right way” is to just continue to improve and build a better mousetrap than you had before.** I used to try to force every conversation to fractional/algorithmic attribution modeling (and I still think it’s the best system overall), but even that has its flaws. Overall, identify your KPIs, ensure you’re moving those numbers in the right direction, and test into as much channel specific insight as you can.

Decide if your analysis and models will come from an internal team or from a vendor.

**Be sure to factor in brand equity and its value in generating return customers as part of your analysis if you already have equity built in your brand.** (It might be helpful to quantify brand equity to balance out what attribution models show.)

**Today’s consumers don’t trust brands, they trust people — so why not humanize your brand and start to build that trust between brand and consumer?** But how can a brand be expected to authentically change when organizations are still looking at digital as a function, not as a way of working? Putting the consumer at the heart of strategies and plans is more important than digital transformation.

What new skills have you had to develop to do your job effectively in the last few years?

BLANDINE: I am developing my ability to identify social trends that matter to my portfolio has become more important than reading a Kantar or TNS report.

ALEX: I’ve had to become a much better social copywriter. I’ve had to learn how to evaluate technology quickly. I’m constantly working on my analytics understanding. But the thing I spend the most time with is behavioral psychology. I’m always trying to understand why we make the decisions we make as consumers, and what that means for me as a marketer.

KURT: Our marketing team has had to adapt to explore new ways of communicating digitally, but also to reach larger numbers of people in new demographics. These skill adaptations include researching the viability of new technologies like Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) for B2B sales, market intelligence research, and seeking out effective new unconventional ways of reaching target audiences.

FABIO: More than simply understanding the digital platforms, today’s marketing leader must be native to digital — approaching digital as a mindset within their daily habits as well as their brand strategies. The notion of one person leading a team and everyone else executing feels outdated. To lead in a collaborative and transparent way means to lead as a pack - a concept I like to call “Pack Leadership Mindset”. I believe this principle is the future of leadership.
