(although, not something we really see in canon, far as i can tell. but it makes sense imo). but it does end up making him mostly a vessel for understanding and acceptance that taako as the subject receives. and i just find dynamics more interesting as reciprocal relationships. they're more compelling when both sides are putting in effort and building the relationship and doing things that are usually difficult for them yk?

in the scenes we see of the two of them together, taako is largely VERY kind to barry. verbally kind to him, even, which is very unusual for taako. and i think that's just as interesting. as much as it's compelling for barry to be gentle with taako, it seems like taako also makes efforts to be gentle with barry. to an extent that i really can't think of many other characters he's as outwardly kind to? not only caring, of course, there's a lot of characters he clearly cares for, nor honest, he does have quite a few moments of honesty, but the only other instances i can really think of him being verbally kind to somebody is when he comforts lup over the phoenix fire gauntlet, and when he talks to ren outside refuge. and even those are more analogous, i think, to his and barry's beach conversation, than to this little random but very sincere moment.
