As someone who’s read (half of) Young Justice ‘98, I agree with the wish that people would stop simplifying the team down to the “core four” (Tim, Kon, Bart, and Cassie). But I wish this even more as someone who’s read loves Cissie and doesn’t give a shit about Cassie.

Cissie is my favorite of the girls and if we’re talking solely about the YJ’98 comics, probably my favorite character, period. I like her backstory and drama with her mom, I like her dynamics with the team, I like her unique motivation/perspective on heroism, I wish we got to see her actually interact with the arrowfam (Roy specifically), and although the story of her retirement is probably my favorite part of YJ’98 and it’s great for her character, I kind of resent it because I wish we got to see more of her.

Meanwhile, Cassie… is just kind of fine for me. I don’t want this to turn into a Cassie-bashing thing, but I just don’t think she brought enough to the comics (that I’ve read so far, I’ve heard she gets more attention later on) to stand out. And the two things she really brought to the table—her relationship with the Wonder Girl mantle and her relationship with her mom—were done more interestingly with Tim and Cissie anyways (in my opinion). It doesn’t help that she tends to be sidelined in favor of the boys or written out of character in fanworks too.

So I find it pretty frustrating that the only girl that’s included in most YJ fan-content (that I’ve seen) is also the girl I care the least about. Meanwhile, my favorite of the girls almost exclusively only gets to make an appearance in ship content where she usually isn’t the focus and doesn’t get that much characterization.
