Youtuber Chaomix has recently made a video talking about his headcanon that Sonic is aroace. Pretty sure that's your headcanon, too, right? Thoughts?

Yeah, you're right, I also hc Sonic as aroace (specifically, non-amorous/non-partnering too)

It's nice seeing someone else share my hc! Some of the comments are a bit more scummy and amatonormative (seriously. It squicks me so bad whenever others justify aspec peoples existence by stating "but they can still love!" Not all aspecs do, fun fact!) But the video itself thankfully doesn't fall into any of those pitfalls

The video about sums up my feelings about it. Sonic throughout the games only ever really looks uncomfortable with romantic advances, and is too independent and free spirited to care about love. There's strong canon subtext that suggests that Sonic doesn't experience romantic or sexual attraction, and as someone who's aroace myself, it means a lot to me knowing that my favorite boy shares my sexuality

I also really care about the idea that Sonic is non-amorous as well, as hey! that's me! and it makes a lot of sense for his character. I don't think he'd ever want to "settle down", even well past his 30s, or whatever age it is people around you start getting weird about being single. Seeing him travel the world on his own, or find joy in spending a majority of his time by himself, means a lot to me, y'know?

Overall, it's great to see people acknowledge aspec identities more and more. Especially during Pride Month ^^

#while we're here ill j talk about some of the other characters and aspec headcanons #i hc Shadow as a loveless aroace bc it makes me happy. ive argued previously that he def feels SOME sort of attraction towards Sonic #but i dont really see it as romantic or sexual. its more rivaltic lmao #im also loveless. i dont vibe with the word love that much and strongly believe that no one needs ANY relationship to complete them #(including platonic! solidarity for aplatonic people)#oh i also see Shadow as someone whos aplatonic as well. sega doesnt want him having friends after all :P #i think itd be funny if Rouge was alloace and Knuckles was aroallo. that kind of relationship feels like a sinking ship but hey #itd be quite the fascinating relationship to explore #tails is some sort of aspec. i personally dont like seeing him shipped #and ofc Eggman is aroallo
