I have this les mis fic idea where Grantaire is like law theory or law philosophy specialist (he went into law because he was shit at maths, as per canon, and his father wanted him to have a lucrative job) so he spends his days thinking about how people are selfish and cruel and only care about themselves, and how to stop them from doing so. He comes into conclusion that alas, nothing seems to work and therefore loses faith in humanity becoming his regular pessimistic self.

But then he meets Enjolras at some sort of law event and he's young and passionate and hopeful and golden. He's also a lawyer ofc and he's doing free legal aid in a local LGBT+ support center and truly believes he can help. And R falls for him - as he does in every universe.

All Amis are lawyers for some reason (the reason being comedy and also that law had the biggest number of students among them in The Brick). It would be fun to think about what kind of lawyer would each of them be...

Sad part is that I have finals before me and will probably lose motivation to write it before Ill have the time to do so...

welcome to my first kindreds kitchen post! on the menu: epirus :D

ill make a timeline post eventually complete with liberties taken and what versions of events ill be using etc. but for now heres a primary post abt the people and places :]

intro lol:

after several very humble trips to wiki and other places lol what ive gathered thus far is following the sack of troy neo and a few others (will post abt them) with him sail to epirus; northwest greece

now my experience living port/ coastal cities is pretty limited, i only have the week we spent in turkiye over a year or two ago in july (i.e humid af :') england was much cooler in the early 2000s and still not much to go off of. anyways) its also mountainous of which i have a bit more knowledge; the capital here is said to be built on 7 mountains lol (amman is pretty high and uneven, my city is much flatter).

my parents' villages are valley-y and hilly respectively, and afaik the agriculture is somewhat similar across the mediterranean so olive trees my beloved will be *everywhere*, and to set the scene somewhat ill eventually edit with pictures and links to more specific stuff so we can all vibe together :]

anyhows all this to say i plan on writing a lot about the landscapes and flora of the region, *cries in undone research* ft. lots of botanical stuff (will write about that seperately bc what flower language do i even use lol) so it matters we all have a good idea of where we is :D

now as for the palace his dumbass highness resides in its based off of the beautiful ioannina castle (guys its so pretty and the ruins are captivating still also the history gfdsdf ive added all of it to my list of places to visit :D!!), an ancient fortress beside the lake pamvotis

will post more stuff and general layout later (this is still a draft lol. also i have *so* much research to do still lmao) but for the time being theres the main castle that houses the main hall, throne room, office all that jazz, whereas the other lil building is the living quarters of the others (bar neo whose chambers are at the heart of the main building) based on this picture btw (for now). no idea what everyhting else is tho

monarchy (very briefly):

now as i understand it the people lived in small villages (somehwaht right up my alley lol) as opposed to the city states characteristic of the time, anyhows my idea is that neo comes to unite them and they make him their ruler.. and heres a fascinating tidbit:

Plutarch mentions an interesting cultural element of the Epirotes regarding the Greek hero Achilles. In his biography of King Pyrrhus, he states that Achilles "had a divine status in Epirus and in the local dialect he was called Aspetos" (meaning "unspeakable" or "unspeakably great" in Homeric Greek). wiki lol

i like the idea of the epirotes not (necessarily) obeying out of real respect & devotion for their king (neo son of achilles) but something akin to fear of the divine or even cultish worship. its a neat angle i think and it definately inflates his ego lol. which will be decimated dw.

land stuff and geography lol:

Most of Epirus lies on the windward side of the Pindus, and the prevailing winds from the Ionian Sea make the region the rainiest in mainland Greece

Epirus is heavily forested, mainly by coniferous species. The fauna in Epirus is especially rich and features species such as bears, wolves, foxes, deer, and lynxes.

The only significant lake in Epirus is Lake Pamvotis, on whose shores lies the city of Ioannina, the region's largest and traditionally most important city.

good time to mention (i will write more later in his own post) but for anyone about to read for themselves: the pyrrhus/ neo son of achilles is the ancestor of the later pyrhus/ neo of epirus **as i understand it** so alexander the great is not his grandson (via olympias his daughter) but rather his descendent. he has 3 sons (by andromache) who themselves kickstart tribes that inhabited epirus.

tl;dr the neo im writing about is not to be confused for his descendants of the same name

Ranking my study-spaces

Desk (10/10)

It’s a classic. I have my stuff there. It’s comfortable enough. I literally created this space so I could study there

Armchair (7/10)

Mostly do my reading and work on the laptop here, because I obviously can’t write per hand without a desk. It’s great for when I’ve been sitting at my desk too long and need to sit differently

Self build balcony bench/couch (8/10)

Basically the same as the Armchair but it gets a bonus because it’s outside

Kitchen table (5/10)

I don’t like it that much, because it’s not as comfy, but I sometimes study there with my roommate when we both need someone too keep us accountable

Bed (4/10)

I try not to study in bed too much, because you’re not supposed to do that because then your brain doesn’t connect that place with resting and you’ll have trouble falling asleep or something. When I have cramps and work to do it’s helpful tho. (And I like the aesthetic of studying at the end of my bed like I’m in a movie)

Coffee-shop (7/10)

Honestly depends on my mood. Sometimes it’s a bit too much distraction.

Library (9/10)

Also depends on my mood but it’s definitely helpful to have a place where everyone is also working. (During exam season I basically treat the library as my 9to5 lol)
