she could hear the waves of the sea as though she were right beside it, the sand between her toes and the warmth of the sun on her porcelain skin. eyes were fixated on the waves ebbing and flowing, crashing again and again at the walls of king's landing. they have been doing so for thousands of years. they would do so a thousand more.

it wasn't until the muffled noise -- someone speaking -- finally cut through the relief of the water and her fingers twitched, the queen finally turning and snapping herself back into the moment. "is something the matter?" her heart was not beating out of time, skin not yet clammy. perils were not here, not in this moment at least. she could take a small comfort in that.
