Im very uninterested in the question of is Philip Marlowe secretly gay and in denial because lets be real hes not that interesting as a character outside the fact that going back to the source to a lot of these male power fantasies does reveal more about masculinity than their copies, and are often slightly more tolerable and human than you'd assume. This whole "gay person in denial" thing is also fairly uninteresting to me & i feel like it buys into a type of gay power fantasy of homosexuality as the silent majority while ignoring how much men fuck and how situational homosexual desire is.

That being said, these books do trade in homosexual desire or revel in male beauty in a way that's pretty compelling ngl

also kicking my feet so excitedly at the Sparrow and Scary interactions cause it's such a weird specific little thing but I've actually wanted so badly for these two to interact again *but softer now* ever since their confrontation in episode 18 (but never dreamed that we'd actually get it!) and I just absolutely adore the greater significance of Sparrow having been unable to stop Lark from being manipulated and made so much worse by Willy, taking too long to step in and stop Hero's training from fucking her up, but then being I think fairly easily the adult who has put the most effort into actively intervening when things are clearly not going well for Scary (even if it didn't come out right the first time) and he's changing and he's growing and he's learning and he's still a love wolf after all this time and I love him and I love him and I love him and-

marlowe thought she was used to the attention that came with proximity to the hawthorne's, but tonight brought it to an entirely new level. she knew rowan having someone on his arm would cause a bit of a stir, but the narrative of the mysterious masked woman had spread throughout the museum like a wildfire within an hour. it felt like all eyes were on her and she's worried that she's fucked up her longest standing friendship by blindsiding valentine with her attendance. and to be honest? she can't really say why she kept it a secret from her friend. she'd been focused on keeping it a secret so his parents wouldn't find out and intercept her before she'd even stepped out of his car.

hence, the decision to beeline it to the bar was a no-brainer the second rowan got whisked away from her by his father with a regretful look tossed over his shoulder. freshly topped off wine glass in hand, she feels her poker face starting to slip. she's always been told she wears her heart on her sleeve. ❝ it's all so sanctimonious isn't it? seems like everyone's so wrapped up in judging what everyone else is doing that even the dance floor feels robotic. ❞ the words aren't said to anyone in particular, they just explode out of her. a silent reminder to start taking smaller sips of the stuffy bordeaux.

feeling multiple pairs of eyes on her, she remembers herself. she doesn't want to make things harder on the hawthornes now that she's thrust into the spotlight alongside them. running a hand over her forehead, she plasters on a meager smile. god who knew that masks could be so sweaty? ❝ sorry, everyone, as you were. ❞ immediately she turns her attention to a well-dressed man nearby to zone in on something other than the unwanted attention. ❝ you're dressed impeccably. i love the mask! ❞

Iris blinked, the weight of his words sinking in like a stone in a still pond. Her mind raced, caught somewhere between utter disbelief and a thrill that shot through her like electricity. He wouldn’t mind? Was she imagining the way his voice softened at the end, or the way his gaze lingered just a second too long on hers?

Her lips parted, searching for a response, but for the first time in what felt like forever, words failed her. That didn’t happen often. She was good with words, sharp with them even—but right now? Her brain short-circuited.

“I…” Her voice caught, her cheeks flushing an even deeper shade of pink as she shifted her weight nervously. Was he serious? Was he teasing? Or was this some dangerous middle ground where she could embarrass herself even more?

Her fingers drummed against the package in her hands, betraying her inner turmoil. Finally, she managed a shaky laugh, her head tilting to the side as she gave him a look that was equal parts daring and cautious. “And what if it was a flirt?” she said, her tone lighter now, a playful lilt threading through her words. “What exactly would you do about it?”

Her heart pounded as soon as the words left her mouth, but she didn’t let her gaze falter. She couldn’t. Not when he looked at her like that—as if she was the only person in the room.

Iris let out a soft laugh, her fingers wrapping tighter around the strap of her leather satchel slung across her shoulder. “Do you really want me to list all the reasons?” Her tone was teasing but firm, her sharp gray-blue eyes meeting Isaac's without a trace of wavering. She tilted her head slightly, taking in the confident smirk he wore so well. He was attractive—too attractive—and he knew it.

“I’m sure you’ve got a whole fan club who’d be thrilled to take you up on the offer,” she continued, her voice light and steady. “But I’m not auditioning to be part of it.” She stepped back, putting some distance between them, though her expression remained friendly, even amused.

“Besides,” she added, glancing at her watch as if to emphasize her point, “I’ve got work to do, and wasting time on someone who thinks persistence is a substitute for connection isn’t really my thing.”

Open: Female, Male,  Nonbinary Connection: Friend, coworker, stranger. Anyone you think works.  Plot: Isaac has been trying to seduce your muse but they are not interested. Where this goes is up to you.

Isaac was used to getting anyone that he wanted. It wasn’t often that he went out and returned home without someone else to join him in bed. That is why he found this whole situation so frustrating. He knew he had a bit of a reputation of being  a player, but usually that worked in his favor. “Come on, tell me why you don’t want to come to my place.”

There's a collective sigh and sharp sucking of teeth from the other two. The tallest of which, the one with a noticeable collar of spikes around the neck, already nods along. "Yeah, guess the latest track wasn't half bad," Hyeonwoo concedes, seemingly more interested in getting a cigarette lit than give a well-rounded compliment.

"Barely," says the third, already visibly irritated yet apprehensive at the same time. "Simon, c'mon, man. We're starving." We as in just him, technically. The other two hardly ate, but insisted on tagging along on breaks.
