Intern magazine This lecture was from an employee from intern magazine, a magazine aimed at young creatives. We were encouraged to think about our career and what we will do at the end of our degree. "I resented to the idea of commiting to a 'career'". I understand this quote as I dont see how people are so set on one idea for their entire life. He was inspired by Boat magazine, the first real independent magazine he had seen. Jt was a lot more visual, cheaper and accessible. It was a small format with more stories that could be dipped in and out of. He looked to the Boat magazine as the materials were luxurious, the paper was thicker and not glossy, it felt special. However he had no background or relevant qualifications or skills, so he decided to do an internship. Perhaps inspiring the title of his magazine. There is a trial element to them however the experience is precious. Domus was the first magazine he went with, not an independent magazine and based on architecture he had no idea how the trial would go. The internship was two months in Milan. This encourages me to not miss opportunities even if I have no knowledge of the subject. Then he spent 7 months in London with Boat. After 9 months of no pay, he decided to make his own magazine. The magazine believes young people are the future, to empower and invest in young people and then using that skill and creativity to make content for young people. Some elements include fashion designers work and photography, they take creative work and publish it into their magazine to highlight young talent, all people are payed, maybe because he can sympathise. People online will publish your work, even doing something interesting yourself will grab attention, he disagrees with unpaid work. Jessica Walsh, famous graphic design in New York. Also works for the magazine, she agrees with unpaid internships, but believes a balance is necessary. Kick start is how he got noticed. Page to crowd fund, clock in corner to prompt.
