The Sunny Bay Gossip Page (Popstar!LoliRock AU)
Trigger Warning: SA Mentioned, Boy Mom, Patriarchy, Religious Psychosis
Episode 3: Former Member of Oracle, Janette, Leaves Social Media After Waves of Criticism Concerning Her Parenting Style - September 23, 2010
As of September 23, 2010, Janette, former member of Oracle and songwriter, has nine kids that she gave birth to and two that she adopted:
Jodan/DJ Ezra, her first child, born in 2001
Auriana, her first daughter, born in 2003
Dami, her first adopted child, born in 2003 and adopted in 2004
Malia, Vanessa, Chiquita, and Lori, her first set of quadruplets born in 2005
Nouri and Angela, her first set of twins born in 2007
Camilla, her second adopted child, born in 2007 and adopted in 2008
Shennay, her youngest, born in March 2010
Back in the group "Oracle," Janette was known for having a motherly/nurturing spirit. She always took care of her members and friends. In an old interview that we digged up, she even mentioned wanting lots of kids.
Most people said that she was just full of love and kids were fantastic. She was helping families who were unable to raise their kids (Dami and Camilla), but others also looked into her background.
Orange Village is not a village. Actually, it's far from being a village. It is the most bustling city in terms of entertainment. All the stars are made in Sunny Bay, but all their shows happen in Orange Village. The reason why it is known as a village, though, is because it was previously very conservative.
It's only 50 years ago that the city council denounced its religious institution, the Paradisia, for teaching women that their sole purpose was to give birth. The institution was also denounced for aiding sexual assault on women and making men keep all their female family members at home or in entertainment houses/circuses.
Some families still follow these strict rules up till now, obviously. Old habits die hard. And it seems as though Janette was raised in this environment.
Janette comes from a wealthy family of entertainers. Her mother was the most successful. She was the main act, a dancer of the Volta Acts. She had 9 other kids aside from Janette. Some of Janette's home training and religious teachings still remained in her as she grew older. She had made it her mission to have as many kids as possible.
Janette had Jodan, Auriana, and adopted Dami out of wedlock with her boyfriend at the time. Then she got married in 2004. As of 2005, she had been posting blogs on Facebook on her parenting style. This involved making all her kids have hobbies, endorse the Paradisia, and solve conflict through conversation. All of this seem normal.
Then, in September 2009, she posts a video of herself on a walk with Jodan. He was speaking on how he wanted to get into music. She applauded him before saying:
"And your sisters will be the dancers, right? After all, the girls have to be the sheep"
Jodan then said he wanted his sisters to dance.
Some people saw it as a wholesome moment, but others saw it as a harmful message to instil in an eight year old who did not know any better. Comparing his sisters to sheep. She seemed so comfortable in this message, too, which alerted netizens that she may have been instilling this message in her kids for a long time.
Some people then investigated deeper into her previous content and claims online and saw cracks. These are just a few instances:
In 2004, right after successfully completing the adoption of Dami, she posted how she might need to love her son harder since he has more sisters.
In 2005, after giving birth to the quadruplets, she was captured by TMZ, holding Jodan's hands when one of her babies was clearly crying and she did not try to comfort her.
In 2005, still, she posted several pictures of her daughters and Jodan with captions like: "Jodan and his cheerleaders," "Jodan and his girls," "Jodan and Co"
In early 2010, she posted a video of her telling Auriana to change shirt because it was "too revealing" and Jodan was around.
Some netizens say that haters are overreacting and that it was just some instances. The majority of people, however, saw it as Janette instilling the principle that men were above women or those to control women. On September 15, 2010, she posted an apology on Facebook and said that she would try to be a better parent.
On September 23, 2010, she deletes her Facebook account.
