#intro to 2020 challenge

With the popularity of Nezha 2, I wanted to give recommendations for other donghua but also to help clarify some Nezha 2019 vs Nezha Reborn (2020) confusion. For best viewing pleasure of any of the new Nezha adaptations, I highly recommend watching or skimming through Nezha 1979. It adds an extra layer to the 2019 and 2020 versions.

They are different movies with different plots! Nezha 2019 takes place in a more traditional past whereas Nezha Reborn is a Steampunk reimagining of Nezha 1979 and the original Nezha Myth.

Nezha 2019's studio Coloroom also produced Jiang Ziya, also based on Investiture of the Gods. God of Three Eyes was a slated addition that follows Erlang Shen but I have not seen news about it. Monkey King is Back is also the same studio and I would say kicked off the revitalization of animated movies based on myths. You can watch the intro scene and skip the rest.

Nezha Reborn has a cinematic sequel with Yang Jian which follows Er Lang Shen/Lotus lantern myths in the steampunk setting.

★I would recommend the classic Lotus Lantern which follows Sanshengmu and her son Chen Xiang who goes on a hero's journey to defeat Erlang Shen who is evil in this movie.

★I love Butterfly Lovers, it follows the myth of Zhu Yingtai who wants to be a scholar, dresses up as a man to do so. She meets Liang Shanbo and they really hit it off as they study and Zhu Yingtai falls in love, reveals her identity, and then the end :) . This particular movie has three musical numbers that are all great in my biased opinion.

Little Door Gods plays on the idea that people used to keep images of two door gods pasted on their doors but with cultural progression and economic slumps, the gods are at risk of being obsolete.

White Snake. I have no words for White Snake, I didn't like them but you might like them. It is a romance between a Snake Spirit and a Human.

★ 30,000 Miles from Chang'An. Stunning movie, I loved the heavy art inspirations for the proportions of everything. Follows the life of Gao Shi and his crossroads with the burgeoning poet Li Bai.

My little area! Can't go wrong with any of these movies I think.

Big Fish and Begonia was a big hit, especially for the historical round house representation. Zhou Shen propelled to fame and OST career with this movie.

★ Dahufa is a weird movie! The less you know the better, honestly just strap in for the ride. This one is a bit violent.

Legend of Hei follows a black cat, Hei which is a prequel movie to the animated series with a similar name. He is trying to find a home but encounters humans and monsters along the way that cause him trouble.

I am who I am is about a group of misfits who overcome challenges and become Lion Dancers. The only movie that I included that isn't that fantastical but extremely touching.

around 2020, joel used a camera account for timelapses! it was called lazybeans26 --- before each timelapse he would say "take it away lazy beans!!!" (correct me if this is wrong please" --- however since the beating minecraft with shared account/tag team challenge (mid/late 2023) the account was changed to be PiglinMyNose (solidaritygaming/goodtimeswithscar shared account) for the video. the account is still in use, and appears to be occasionally used for joel's hermitcraft intros.

Media Day | Platonic!Aitana Bonmati x Reader

Words: 1.2k Summary: everyone hates when you two get paired up on media day – please I know they didn’t score against Wolfsburg in the particular game mentioned, pretend they did Requested by @onandkfk - i'm sorry this isn't as good as i was hoping it to be but i hope you like it!

Media days could be tough. Interviewers or challenges could be awkward and sometimes you just don’t click with the people around you. Obviously all of the team worked well with each other, but if there were bad vibes from the visitors it threatened to ruin everything.

That’s why you and Aitana paired up whenever you could. And people hated it.

The two of you were rather respectful, reserved in comparison to the general Barcelona Femení image. Well that was before you discovered how much you enjoyed each other’s company.

You joined Barcelona from Atletico Madrid in 2020 as somewhat of a ‘child prodigy’. It left a sour taste in many people’s (fans) mouths, leaving one of Barca’s biggest rivals of the time only to join the ‘enemy’. You were too nervous to put yourself out there in a team like Barcelona, not knowing many of them despite having just had your first national team, so the first week or so was rather lonely. When not training, your head was buried in a book with headphones perched over your ears, or homework resting on your lap.

Eventually Aitana extended a hand to you in training, taking you under her wing. Being 16 at the time, you became basically stitched to her side. Jona tried to separate you when he first became head coach, despite having been witnessing your sibling like relationship as assistant coach for months beforehand, but quickly found there was no use. You worked well with everyone, often spending time with Mapi and Alexia or Clàudia when Aitana had something else to do, but you always found your way back to her at the end of the day.

It was a similar situation on media days. Everyone got paired up or rotated between a few people, you and Aitana included, but you always managed to find a way to pair up or sit and watch each other for majority of the day.

“Please don’t pair me up with them again Jona, please. Put Keira with them, it’s like a group of siblings when they’re together.” You let out a giggle as Patri begs to be switched out for the game.

“It’s just a little ‘who knows who better’ challenge, how bad can it be?” a hand lands sympathetically on her shoulder before he takes his leave for a press conference about tomorrow’s UWCL game against Benfica.

The midfielder takes a seat to the left of Aitana, and jokingly wipes her hands against her shorts.

“Estoy muy nervosa entre estas dos��� (I’m very nervous between these two) she lets out a breathy laugh, looking down the lens of the camera as a silent plea of help as our voices muddle together in protest.

“¿Por qué? ¡Nosotras somos como ángeles Patri!” (Why? We are like angels Patri!)

“No hay razón para estar!” (there is no reason to be!)

“You will find a way to traumatise me I swear. But let’s get this over with!”

“… and Aitana Bonmatí?” laughs break out from the whole crew, including you and Patri, as Aitana’s face twists in confusion toward you.

“I thought you were saying both… let’s go again.” A chuckle slips out before you try to redo the intro.

“Hi! I am Patri Guijarro.”

“I’m Y/N L/N”

“And Aita-” she cuts herself off and begins to laugh again, falling against your side.

“Qué poco profesional, verdad?” (so unprofessional right?) you stare directly into the camera before looking for a joking confirmation from Patri and the camera crew, who all nod in agreement.

“Sí, stick to fútbol.” You pat her on the back before trying the introduction again. Four more times.

“What was Y/N’s first start for Barcelona? And when?” you send Aitana a playful look as Patri reads the question off the card.

“You better know this Tana or we may have a problem. We had our first link up on the pitch during this game, it was a banger goal.”

“No I know. Of course I know.” She scribbles something down on the whiteboard.

“3, 2, 1. Times up, I hope you know the answer for your own sake Aitana.” Patri glances over at the older girl’s board and snickers.

“Ay she got it wrong heh? She has very poor memory.”

“I do not! Stop lying to everyone.”

“Okay okay Aitana what did you write?” shamefully, she flips her board around.

“Real Madrid, January 2021.” Your mouth falls open and your eyes bulge out of your head.

“Tana! My first start was against Wolfsburg in the UWCL semi-final in August 2020. You lobbed the ball from the mid-line and I headed it straight passed the goalie. I can’t believe you don’t remember that! Your age really is making you forget things.” A poor replication of a solemn expression is plastered on your face while Aitana tries defends herself.

“I have many of your achievements and milestones to remember hermanita! It is hard when you are such a successful player.” Despite Aitana referring to you has her little sister for quite some time, it manages to pull at your heart.

“I suppose I can excuse it this once.” With a roll of your eyes, you move onto the next question.

“How many major trophies does Aitana have? Country, club and junior and senior teams combined.”

“Dios mío, which ones doesn’t she have? You know I have to deep search our apartment once a week for her Ballon D’or so I can put it on display because she’s too modest to let everyone know how good she is?”

“It gets hidden right beside your 4 ‘TOTY’ player trophies from since you were 16.”

“I told you I would display them if we got a cat and you said ‘no I’m allergic’ so who’s fault is it really?”

“I cannot control my allergies, you bring half of Mapi’s cat back every time you visit them anyway, there is no need for our own cat.”

“I hate you.”

“Hermanita you say that every time I say no and yet you still make Miguelitos once a week because you found out they’re my favourite dessert.”

“Are you calling me a pushover Tana?”

“I’m not… not saying that.”

“Culo.” (ass) Aitana gasps dramatically and places a hand over her heart.

“You wound me Y/N.” you poke your tongue out at her then turn back to your whiteboard, writing down the answer.

“There is no way she knows this.”

“You doubt me Aitana?”

“Yo tambien para ser honesta.” (me too to be honest) the girls laugh to each other as they wait for you to finish with your suspiciously long answer for the question at hand. You don’t waste time in turning the board around to show the two midfielders and the cameras.

Jaws drop as they all read your answer.

“Thirty-one, and she named each of them. Aitana you need to step up your knowledge, this is crazy impressive.”

“How on earth do you know all that?”

“I care deeply about my friends, so much so that I’d get them a cat if they asked.” You glare at each other as Patri tries to end the video.

“Our winner is Y/N, with 5/5 questions right. Aitana you only got 3/5, you are a bad friend.”

“You tell her Patri!”

“What do I need to do to make the boasting end?”

“Make me fabada when we get home.”

“You hate me.”

“And yet you’ll still make it for me as I make your Miguelitos, so either both of us win or lose.”

“Bien hermanita.” She sighs but gives me a smile despite it.

“Gracias… loser.”

After the answer about the camping trip spooning I received three asks which I will show here one after the other, because I think it is easier to have all data in one place instead of answering every mail separately.

Thank you for providing specific episodes. So I rewatched all of them and I believe that unless they have a pattern of super cold camping fails happening to them and all their close friends, then it is the same incident described a little differently over time. From my side, I will also add again the Cuddle Queen GMMore, which also belongs to the campingspoon!lore.

Like Anon said, Rhett mentions their friend Mike (they even show a picture of him from afar on a mountain / no face shown), having to spend the night on the top of a mountain and it being super cold so he had to spoon his hiking friend. Link chimes in to clarify they were also switching every hour, so they were regularly changing who was the big and who was the little spoon.

Rhett and Link are masked and taste instant noodles. Link says that he remembered their flavour from the last time he ate them, which was when they had a near-death camping experience and they were huddling and spooning three other guys. He then mentions it again and says "I am spooning three other guys", so I believe it was four men overall and not five. Even covered with the mask, you can still see Rhett's face fall at this. He defensively says: "I don't think we almost died. We just almost embarrassed ourselves. It was just very very cold."

Rhett asks Cuddle Queen Jean about emergency cuddles and especially about the two friends of theirs spooning and switching regularly and never facing each other, so it's exactly what he also said back in 2014. He gives however more information and he just looks very amused about it and kinda way too excited to tell Jean about something that happened six years ago to someone else, apparently. Anyway, let's see the dialogue:

Rhett: We had a friend who was hiking one day at a time and he and his buddy got stranded out in the cold when hiking. C.Q.Jean: Did this really happen? R: This really happened. Link: Yes, it really happened. R: And they got lost and they were on the side of the cliff and they had to spoon each other on and off. Big spoon, little spoon, alternating all night long to stay warm and they were just like - C.Q.J: And they were beloveds? Or were they platonic friends? R: No they were just like kinda had gotten to know each other two weeks ago, they were just kinda like have been working together for a little bit and then the next thing they're spooning all night with each other.

C.Q.J: So, one word for that; awkward. R: Ha! Right, yeah... L: When it's a survival situation, that's not, did that count as cuddling? C.Q.J: Ah well you know the peace that I am talking about, that feel-good cuddle chemical stuff only happens when people feel safe, comfortable and at ease. And in both of those scenarios we're talking about emergencies where people are having adrenaline coursing through their system and fear and discomfort. Rhett was talking about a specific incident with specific people, so it seems like he was speaking from a place of knowledge when he implied that the people engaged in this emergency situation might have become more than friends. Did their old friend Mike form a romantic relationship with that other guy? Hmmm....

In the intro of the episode Link tells a scripted joke that he trusts Rhett would make room for him on that board door from the Titanic in order to spoon and both keep their warmth and survive. Then he asks Rhett whether he remembers when their trust was first established. Rhett laconically replies "Probably the first time we spooned" and laughs a little. Link shakes his head and asks: "You're talking about that camping survival situation?" but Rhett does not answer to this.

Verdict: Unless this survival situation has happened to their entire social circle, then we're just talking about one single incident, in which Rhett, Link, Mike and another (newer) friend were present. My assumption is that just like how back in the college days their mates always took for granted that Rhett and Link will sleep in the same bed together because they're so close friends, similarly they were separated in two duos and spooned all night, one duo being Rhett and Link and the other being Mike and that other friend. Rhett did not want to mention themselves when he first brought it up in 2014, out of fear it would be taken the right the wrong way. To the Anon doubting he would scapegoat Mike, well he probably did. Maybe Mike does not watch the show or maybe even if he confronted Rhett about this, Rhett would justify this with the argument that nobody knows who Mike is anyway, whereas they are public personas and there would be assumptions made about them by the fans. When Link impulsively reveals one year later that they were part of this group, a moody Rhett defends their choice as an act of great need ("it just was very very cold"), sort of a no-homo reaction. Then when Rhett wants Jean's opinion about it, he once more excludes himself and Link and does not name Mike either. I doubt he was fully honest about Mike and the other person barely knowing each other. He just tries to make this as vague and secretive as possible but he seems very amused and interested in what Jean will say about it. In the end, he unquestionably implies that the two people who went through this situation (either the Mike and friend duo, or their duo) had become more than best friends. One year later, Rhett either jokes or states that they have spooned more than once (since there was a first time spoon) and Link's mind immediately goes to the dangerous camping trip, so he confirmed that they have spooned in a camping emergency and 99% it is that one same incident, except Rhett always tries to hide they were there cuddling too and Link always proves him a liar.

What's certain is that this has made an impact on them. If we combine this with the "or more"... well things fall into place, no? As for the first Anon who asked when this must have happened, well I initially hypothesized 2014-early 2015 but this data points to prior to early 2014. But in my opinion not way before that and likely after they moved to California, so around 2012 - early 2014. It could have happened in late 2013, after the newsical kiss and when the weather was getting cold. Let's not forget Link in late 2015 said he had not eaten noodles since then and so it must have been closer to 2014 than 2012. Then again he might not eat noodles at all IDK

BTW: There was one episode in which for the needs of the game Link was pretending he forgot his sleeping bag and they had to get crammed to the same one. Don't hold me to it but I remember Rhett sort of implied Link had done that in real life. But I am not sure I remember correctly, just to be clear.

g. Which section was most difficult to write? Weirdly, chapter 12—the one with Nate's birthday—was kind of challenging! I think because I had the start of the intro, a post-it note of a summary, and basically nothing else written months before I came back to it and finished it; I also had much more ambitious plans for trying something ~creative~ with formatting to try incorporating actual poems + marginalia snippets, but realized too late how much more futzing that would've required and I was just. ready to be done with the chapter already lol.

h. Which section was the easiest to write? Both of the Ludington chapters happened very quickly and fluidly; another section that's come together super easily (except for one specific bit lol) is an upcoming Chicago chapter that I'm very excited about and have had the hardest time not entirely spoiling via wip snippets on here haha

9. Which of your fics did you spend the least amount of time writing?

Assuming a reliable memory, it's a toss-up between 'you were a kindness' and 'are you lightning?'—each one was started and posted in a single evening.

g. Which section was most difficult to write? Very little of 'kindness' gave me trouble, really! Maybe just generally deciding on the scope of the fic as a whole? For 'lightning', I *think* the ending was the only section where I spent noticeable time fiddling with wording (but also this fic is from 2020 and was written in a fugue state at like, 2am, so who's to say whether that's remotely accurate lmao).

h. Which section was the easiest to write? for 'kindness', definitely the beginning: I had such a clear mental image of the opening scene for that one. for 'lightning'...Holland's inner monologue probably lol.

I'm watching Long Way Up now and I've tried to pace myself, but I'm already half way through the season already.

I don't know how I completely missed this in 2020 when it came out, but I think it was completely off my radar.

Anyway, the nostalgia hit immediately. The same intro song, the same team with Russ, David and even Claudio getting back. I mean, I haven't seen those guys for like 20 years. In Ewan McGregor's case it's different, I watched him in movies since then.

The main challenge in Long Way Up is having to do this trip starting from all down in South America, traveling 13,000 miles to get to LA, all while using electric motorbikes. Just the stress of not having enough power, to have the cold weather factoring in, not good enough charging stations and so. As much as the benefits are obviously there, the lack of infrastructure needed to get through can really make things difficult. But so far, there weren't big bumps in the road and the overall morale is up, but I guess the experience really plays a big part in it.

NaKniCroMo Day 1 - Introduce yourself!

Hello, and, again, welcome to the Aperture Sci-- Wait, wrong intro.

Hi everyone! Guess what day it is! That's right, the first day of March! For those not in the know, that means it's the first day of National Knit and Crochet Month! (yes that's a crafty spin-off of a certain other month long productivity challenge but we're not going to talk about that right now)

I've been following the @naknicromo (click for the uh. technically extant official blog) shenanigans since... gosh, 2018? My first official event was in 2019, that much I know. I couldn't even crochet back then! But now I've also been privileged to work with the original team behind the concept as a discord mod since mid-2020 and have had the utmost joy of taking the lead with the project since 2022. It's a passion project for sure, I love it here.

Aside from that, hi! I'm Tass, I'm in my 30s, and I'm a knitter, crocheter, cross-stitcher, and occasional-sewist. I'm super looking forward to diving into my March project (which kind of came out of nowhere, I'll be honest) and I can't wait to see what everyone else is working on too!

𓂃 ⠀⠀⠀ THE  HISTORY  OF  PRODUCE  101  ! 

❝  for  those  kpop  fans  that  haven’t  heard  about  the  PRODUCE  101  franchise  (  which  i’m  still  wondering  because  everyone  knows  about  it  at  this  point  ),  the  franchise  started  back  in  2016  as  a  female  survival  show,  where  one  hundred  and  one  female  trainees  (  hence  the  “one-oh-one”  in  the  show’s  name  )  battled  against  each  other  for  one  of  the  eleven  available  spots  in  a  girl  group  that  would  debut  following  the  last  episode  of  the  show.  the  trainees  would  do  challenges  in  each  episode,  showcasing  their  talents  and  abilities.  by  the  end  of  each  episode,  a  certain  amount  of  trainees  would  pass  into  the  next  round,  while  others  would  simply  be  kicked  out.  terrible  to  be  in  that  position  of  each  episode,  i  know,  but  something  about  this  show  intrigued  people.  oh,  and  before  i  forget,  the  viewers  get  to  decide  which  of  the  trainees  would  go  forward  in  the  show,  despite  it  having  judges  for  each  aspect  (  singing,  rapping  and  dancing  ),  but  before  you  gasp,  remember  that  fact  for  later. 

as  the  years  went  by,  so  did  the  show's  seasons,  up  until  2019,  when  this  video’s  point  begins  too.  for  some  reason,  the  fourth  season  was  named  PRODUCE  X  101,  and  it  was  for  the  male  trainees  to  compete  against  each  other  while  the  creators  of  it  could  sit  back  and  watch  it  all  go  down.  the  show  has  many  controversies,  but  for  now,  we’ll  focus  on  only  one,  or  at  least  try  to. 

the  produce  franchise  was  notorious  for  debuting  strong  project  groups  like  I.O.I,  WANNA  ONE  and  IZ*ONE,  so  people  expected  the  same  for  fourth  season  winners  X1,  only  in  their  case,  everything  ended  in  shambles  only  a  couple  of  months  later.  X1  was  supposed  to  promote  as  a  group  for  two  and  a  half  years  just  like  the  other  three  groups,  yet  they  only  managed  to  release  one  album  (  the  debut  album  )  called  EMERGENCY:  QUANTUM  LEAP.  debuting  in  august  2019,  the  group  promoted  the  title  track  FLASH  as  much  as  possible,  but  with  the  allegations  their  creator  show  received,  they  disbanded  the  following  year  in  january.  what  a  kick  to  2020,  am  i  right?  now  i’m  not  saying  it’s  mnet’s  fault,  but  i  am  one  hundred  per  cent  saying  precisely  that  because  in  july  of  2019  (  before  x1  even  had  a  chance  to  breathe  as  a  group  ),  an  investigation  started  due  to  suspicion  of  voting  manipulations.  ❞

𓂃 ⠀⠀⠀ THE  VOTING  MANIPULATION  SCANDAL(?)  ! 

❝  remember  when  i  said  that  you  need  to  recall  that  everything  was  decided  by  the  public?  well,  here’s  where  it  all  comes  together.  as  mnet  explained  in  the  first  season,  everything  was  selected  by  the  fans,  from  the  ranks  to  the  final  lineup  that  would  happily  debut.  turns  out  that  mnet  lied  and  wanted  to  change  the  trainees’  positions  as  they  wished  to,  which  was  quite  dumb  of  them  because  they  couldn’t  hide  it  well  enough  and  outed  themselves.  of  course,  the  culprits  were  arrested,  but  too  late,  in  my  opinion.  after  the  scandal  broke  out,  X1  could  do  nothing  but  (  not  so  )  silently  disband,  which  angered  fans  because,  unlike  them,  IZ*ONE  continued  promotions  as  if  nothing  had  happened.  if  you  asked  me  personally,  it  was  fucked  up  from  the  company’s  side  to  abandon  X1  and  only  focus  on  their  sister  group,  but  that’s  another  story  we’re  not  concentrating  on  right  now. 

i  think  i  speak  for  everyone  when  i  say  that  the  fourth  season  was  the  last  straw  because  it’s  when  the  manipulated  ranks  started  to  show.  just  by  releasing  the  total  number  of  votes  following  the  end  of  the  final  episode  of  PRODUCE  X  101,  fans  began  noticing  inconsistencies  for  each  trainee  featured.  every  contestant's  final  vote  was  a  multiple  of  7,494.442,  which,  if  divided  by  the  remaining  trainees,  is  impossible  because  of  how  similar  the  number  was,  and  it  didn’t  mathematically  vary  from  each  contestant.  it  was  on  december  5th  when  it  was  confirmed  that  the  votes  for  IZ*ONE  and  X1  (  and  possibly  I.O.I  and  WANNA  ONE  )  were  manipulated,  making  this  worse  for  the  fans  supporting  them  from  the  start.

to  make  things  worse,  november  18,  2020,  was  when  the  court  released  a  list  of  trainees  that  were  fucked  up  by  the  manipulations,  our  dear  HERO  being  one  of  them.  ❞

𓂃 ⠀⠀⠀ WHO  IS  HERO  AND  WHY  IS  HE  IMPORTANT  ? 

❝  so,  after  all,  everyone  must  wonder  WHO  THE  FUCK  IS  HERO,  why  and  how  is  he  included  in  this  video.  well,  you  will  know  if  you  wait  just  a  few  seconds.

HERO,  full  name  KWON  EUIWOONG,  was  one  of  the  most  known  contestants  of  the  PRODUCE  101  franchise.  not  much  is  known  about  his  past;  he  did  mention  that  he  didn’t  plan  on  becoming  an  idol  at  first  but  was  later  encouraged  by  his  friend  to  try.  his  final  rank  was  SEVEN  in  the  last  episode,  and  throughout  the  show,  his  levels  were  consistently  high  and  never  got  under  fifth  place.  need  i  remind  you  that  EUIWOONG  has  been  the  fans’  favourite  from  the  start  due  to  his  calm  nature  and  talent  in  singing  and  dancing  (  i  would  say  in  rapping,  too,  but  he  admitted  he  felt  insecure  in  that  aspect  back  then  ).  so  imagine,  to  fans’  shock,  when  he  was  called  onto  the  podium  as  the  group's  SEVENTH  member  instead  of  a  higher  number.

despite  that,  fans  supported  him  along  with  the  group,  which  some  would  say  was  a  mistake  due  to  the  d-word  (  disbandment  )  of  X1.  like  avatar  aang,  he  vanished  from  the  public  and  left  everyone  in  shambles.  he  successfully  avoided  cameras  and  dispatch  for  a  year  and  a  few  months,  which  didn’t  go  well  on  social  media.  back  then,  when  his  fans  were  unnamed  (  now  called  ODDITIES  ),  they  would  boycott  the  company  and  demand  to  know  what  was  going  on  with  their  idol.  and  as  usual,  boycotts  never  worked  for  companies  like  MIGHTY  DEVIL  and  GLASSHOUSE;  it  went  nowhere,  and  their  questions  weren’t  answered.  twitter  almost  went  up  in  flames,  and  everyone  was  seen  posting  the  same  sentence  over  and  over  again:  WHO  KNEW  THIS  WOULD  BE  THE  LAST  TIME  WE  HEAR  OF  X1  AND  HERO  FOR  A  WHILE  (  spoiler  alert:  everyone  knew,  they  just  didn’t  want  to  admit  it  ).

when  the  list  came  out,  fans  could  see  KWON  EUIWOONG  being  mentioned  in  it,  showing  that  he  was  initially  supposed  to  be  in  SECOND  place  and  not  SEVENTH  like  it  was  established  in  the  end.  pissed  and  thirsty  for  revenge,  his  fans  refused  to  support  their  sister  group,  IZ*ONE  and  flooded  the  mnet’s  comment  section  with  negative  words  and  threats.  this,  of  course,  went  almost  unnoticed  by  other  fandoms,  but  it  was  mentioned  a  couple  of  times  when  talking  about  the  whole  shitshow. 

i’m  mentioning  only  HERO  in  this  video  because,  unlike  other  trainees  whose  ranks  went  from  low  to  high,  EUIWOONG’s  went  the  other  way  around,  which  is  the  first  time  that  happened,  from  my  knowledge.  not  only  that,  but  everyone  knew  he  was  too  good  for  SEVENTH  place,  with  his  talents  and  being  named  the  ACE  OF  X1,  but  no  one  had  proof  of  it  until  the  ranks  were  released.  ❞

𓂃 ⠀⠀⠀ WHERE  IS  HERO  AND  WHAT  IS  HE  DOING  NOW  ? 

❝  the  hiatus  and  disappearance  of  HERO  was  hurtful  to  his  fans  and  other  idols.  his  previous  members  would  say  they  missed  him  and  wish  to  see  him  perform  again,  indicating  he  wasn’t  interacting  with  them  in  private.  for  some  time,  i  thought  that  was  it  for  EUIWOONG’s  career  and  was  ready  to  give  up  when  all  of  a  sudden,  it  was  like  a  blessing  from  the  angels.  the  july  of  2021  started  terrifically  for  us  because  MIGHTY  DEVIL  finally  had  the  balls  to  release  the  news  about  HERO. 

you  might  be  wondering  how  did  the  company  announce  his  return?  well,  they  technically  didn’t;  they  released  his  debut  single  one  day  and  went,  ‘oh,  here  he  is  lol’.  it’s  badass,  in  my  opinion,  because  there  wasn’t  any  pity  shown,  just  a  short  and  straightforward  debut  single  (  which  received  high  praises  and  30m  views  in  the  first  twenty-four  hours,  might  i  add  ),  bringing  attention  to  him  and  waking  up  his  old  fans.

i  know  that  he  just  debuted  (  again  ),  and  i’m  posting  this  way  too  early  (  and  on  his  birthday,  happy  birthday,  hero!  ),  but  i  am  sure  that  he  will  be  okay  and  be  able  to  showcase  his  abilities  as  best  as  he  can.  he’s  still  the  ace,  but  this  time  not  only  of  X1  but  the  whole  industry,  and  he  can  only  go  up  from  here.

Pandemic Postcards

Open vs Bristol

If you’ve been following my reviews of the quarter-finals, you’ll know that I’ve been mining my archives for funny Paxman quips about the ‘labyrinthine’ nature of the double-elimination double-qualification format. You’ll also know that I haven’t found as many as I thought I was going to. Memory plays tricks on us, which is also the theme of my replacement intro because the series I was looking back over was from 2019/20.

The first QF was on 3rd Feb 2020, and was entirely in the style of the novel Ducks, Newburyport.

The second QF was on 10th Feb 2020 and featured reigning Only Connect 3rd placer Ian Wang.

The third QF was on 17th Feb 2020 and there was still nothing strange going on.

And then something happened that meant I didn’t write a review for a month… and then I returned with a 5-part special episode from the early days of the Covid pandemic.

What better thing to do, when forced to stay at home during the outbreak of a global virus that threatens not only millions of peoples lives but the very fabric of society as we know it, than catch up on watching and writing about the quiz show whose previous four episodes you had missed for various reasons, all of which seem frivolous following the outbreak of a global virus that threatens not only millions of peoples lives but the very fabric of society as we know it.

Also, I kept seeing that Twitter meme about Shakespeare having written King Lear during the plague quarantine and fancied getting involved.

When the next post was out we were in lockdown for the first time.

What is going on? When I wrote the last blog it was pretty clear that we were in a dire situation, but the inaction of the Government left it feeling like we were in some kind of limbo state, just waiting for the disaster to hit us. But then action was taken. Lockdown.

We now know exactly what we have to do (was going to list the ‘Stay Home’ instructions here, but if you’re getting your lockdown lowdown from a University Challenge blog then frankly there’s no hope for you anyway), but it still feels really surreal.

And the week after that, I was learning what the word furlough meant and how to pronounce it.

Furlough is one of those words that makes you understand how infuriating it must be to learn English as a foriegn language. Its a fairly rare word, so many native speakers won’t have known which of the ‘ough’ sounds should follow the ‘furl’ (as in rough, cough, through, plough and though etc). Is it fur-loh, fur-low, fur-luff, fur-loff or fur-loo? For me it seemed right that furlough should be fur-low, to rhyme with cow, but then furloughed to rhyme with though.

Reading these back, the strangest thing is that they are from five years ago. It doesn’t feel possible that so much time can have passed, but it must have.

It’s also clear that the pre-recorded episodes of University Challenge were a great source of comfort to me at that time, punctuating the week in a way that nothing else was. It still does this for me, though with fewer global-virus-related implications.

Here’s your first starter for ten.

Warner kicks things off for Bristol with harpies, and they took a full set of bonuses on words featuring the sequence O-C-H. They started their previous match with a string of ten starters, ending with a pretty monstrous 290–35 win over Exeter.

This match wouldn’t be entirely in their favour like that one, with Westermann opening Open’s account with Judith Butler on the second starter.

Another for Warner keeps Bristol ahead, but no one recognises Anna Karenina’s family tree on the first picture starter. Warner’s third wins the picture bonuses and they take two, missing The Golovylov Family by Mikhail Soltykov-Shchedrin, which is so much harder than all the other family tree questions.

Back-to-back starters for Westermann keep Open within ten points, but they’d be in the lead if they could manage more than a single bonus every time.

No one gets the music starter, so Warner wins Bristol the bonuses with a replacement on the Sea of Azoz. A rapid buzz of 2014 from Payne gives Open another opportunity to close the gap and Westermann’s fourth ties the game at 75-each. One more for Warner nudged Bristol in front, but a pair of picture bonuses swung things back towards Open who took the lead for the first time in the match

Unfortunately for them and for viewers hoping for a close finish, Bristol pulled away at this point, ending the match with a 50–0 run to put one foot in the semi-finals.

On Pointless, some Pointless answers are more Pointless than others. As in, there are some which wouldn’t be Pointless if 101 people were asked rather than 100, and some which would still be Pointless is 1000 people were asked. That Golovylov question feels like it would fall into the second of these categories — would any of the teams on this year’s University Challenge have got it right?

Doesn’t matter for Bristol, who will now face one of Warwick, Darwin and Christ’s for direct passage into the last four.

my shifting journey <3

Hi besties!

I mentioned in my intro that my shifting journey is a bit more complicated than most people experience. I just want to explain my journey so far. If you're curious, keep reading!

TLDR: I have shifted, but I've never experienced my shifts as they're happening. My mind and spirit team blocked me from fully experiencing it as I wasn't ready - but I have tons of memories from my times shifting!

2020 I first heard about shifting in early November. I actually have a TikTok draft from my very first shifting attempt - November 17, 2020. I was incredibly misguided and ill-informed about shifting at the time. My first script was for a Hogwarts DR. At the time, I thought shifting was just another term for lucid dreaming, so I thought I would be going to the exact plot of the movies / books without any adjustments. I saw myself as a fourth year Slytherin (ew considering I was 20 at the time and fourth years are normally 14-15). Thankfully, I had a very incorrect understanding of shifting, so I never shifted to that DR.

2021 In the beginning of 2021, I started sharing my shifting journey on TikTok and met a lot of really lovely people! I had a much better understanding of the concept of shifting, so I scripted new DRs (some of which I still use to this day) and started truly trying to shift. I spent that year learning a lot about different spiritual beliefs regarding shifting, some scientific knowledge that applies to shifting, and my own personal feelings and beliefs. I still didn't shift this year, but I was starting to feel much more optimistic and confident in my ability to shift.

2022 This was by far the most eventful year of my shifting journey thus far. In 2022, I started channeling, started doing tarot readings, and had a circle of friends who were helping me through a lot of my doubts and questions. My memory is terrible, so I'm not sure exactly what month, but I also started fully shifting this year! However, my brain and my spirit team weren't confident that I was fully ready for the experience. So I was shifting multiple times a week to several different DRs, but I would wake up the morning after a shift with only a vague recollection of what had happened. It wasn't until August that I put the pieces together and realized that I had been shifting. At the time, I was channeling my DR's Colin Bridgerton and my DR's Aleksander Morozova, and they both confirmed my experience as well. I also had tarot readings and channelings done by my friends at the time that confirmed what I already knew - I was shifting but not fully experiencing it. The end of 2022 was incredibly challenging for me personally, so that's when I started losing my drive for shifting.

2023 I was still fairly committed to shifting for most of this year. I would make attempts multiple times a week, I was still channeling some, and shifting was still the most important thing in my life. However, towards the middle of the year, CR things came up, I started doubting my abilities, and shifting fell to the wayside. I was still posting on TikTok and I have always believed in shifting, but my desire to make concentrated attempts was practically gone.

2024 I didn't try to shift very often last year. I tried to get back into posting from January to April, but in April, several of my videos went viral. This led to an influx of hate comments, anti-shifters, and generally a lot of bad attention. This caused me to stop posting and honestly to stop thinking about shifting much at all. As I said before, I've always believed in shifting, but it wasn't until December that I decided to jump back in fully.

Going Forward I am fully committed to relearning and recommitting to shifting this year! I plan to start from my basic beliefs and try different methods as soon as I feel fully confident again. In the meantime, I'm excited to talk about my DRs, meet more shifters, and learn as much as I can.
