Whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings will always be there to guide you. And so will I.
Born to a turbulent family on a Mississippi farm, James Earl Jones passed away today. He was ninety-three years old. Abandoned by his parents as a child and raised by a racist grandmother (although he later reconciled with his actor father and performed alongside him as an adult), the trauma of his childhood developed into a stutter that followed him through his primary school years – sometimes, his stutter was so debilitating, he could not speak at all. In high school, Jones found in an English teacher someone who found in him a talent for written expression, and encouraged him to write and recite poetry in class. He overcame his stutter by graduation, although the effects of it carried over for the remainder of his life.
Jones' most accomplished roles may have been on the Broadway stage, where he won three Tonys (twice winning Best Actor in a Play for originating the lead roles in 1969's The Great White Hope by Howard Sackler and 1987's Fences by August Wilson) and was considered one of the best Shakespearean actors of his time.
But his contributions to cinema left an impact on audiences, too. Jones received an Honorary Academy Award alongside makeup artist Dick Smith (1972's The Godfather, 1984's Amadeus) in 2011. From the end of Hollywood's Golden Age to the dawn of the summer Hollywood blockbuster in the 1970s to the present, Jones' presence – and his basso profundo voice – could scarcely be ignored. Though he could not sing like Paul Robeson nor had the looks of Sidney Poitier, his presence and command put him in league of both of his acting predecessors.
Ten of the films James Earl Jones appeared in, whether in-person or voice acting, follow (left-right, descending):
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) – directed by Stanley Kubrick; also starring Peter Sellers, George C. Scott, Sterling Hayden, Keenan Wynn, and Slim Pickens
The Great White Hope (1970) – directed by Martin Ritt; also starring Jane Alexander, Chester Morris, Hal Holbrook Beah Richards, and Moses Gunn
Star Wars saga (1977-2019; A New Hope pictured) – multiple directors, as the voice of Darth Vader, also starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Cushing, Alec Guinness, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, David Prowse, Kenny Baker, Peter Mayhew, and Frank Oz
Claudine (1974) – directed by John Berry; also starring Diahann Carroll, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, and Tamu Blackwell
Conan the Barbarian (1982) – directed by John Milius; also starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sandahl Bergman, Ben Davidson, Cassandra Gaviola, Gerry Lopez, Mako, Valerie Quennessen, William Smith, and Max von Sydow
Coming to America series (1988 and 2021; original pictured) – multiple directors; also starring Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, John Amos, Madge Sinclair, Shari Headley, Jermaine Fowler, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, and KiKi Layne
The Hunt for Red October (1990) – directed by John McTiernan; also starring Sean Connery, Alec Baldwin, Scott Glenn, and Sam Neill
The Sandlot (1993) – directed by David Mickey Evans; also staring Tom Guiry, Mike Vitar, Patrick Renna, Chauncey Leopardi, Marty York, Brandon Adams, Grant Gelt, Shane Obedzinski, Victor DiMattia, Denis Leary, and Karen Allen
The Lion King (1994) – directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff, as the voice of Mufasa; also starring Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Matthew Broderick, Jeremy Irons, Moira Kelly, Niketa Calame, Ernie Sabella, Nathan Lane, and Robert Guillaume, Rowan Atkinson, Whoopi Goldberg, Cheech Marin, Jim Cummings, and Madge Sinclair
Field of Dreams (1989) – directed by Phil Alden Robinson; also starring Kevin Costner, Amy Madigan, Ray Liotta, and Burt Lancaster

G.I. Joe
The original G.I. Joe Adventure Team, founded in 1969, consisted of just five members – Joseph ‘G.I. Joe’ Colton,  Dr Jane Ann ‘G.I. Jane’ Martelle, Richard ‘Bullet Man’ Ruby, Mike ‘Atomic Man’ Power and William ‘The Commander’ Fowler. The team would travel the world combating various threats to life and liberty, including the mysterious Terron Intruders, before ultimately being disbanded in 1976.
But in 1982, an American used-car salesman with a huge chip on his shoulder would don a mask and become the self-styled charismatic leader a paramilitary organization with visions of global domination. As this organizations power grew, their leader would be approached by a liaison of Khobra-La, an ancient civilization of reptilian humanoids and the originators of the previous Terron threat. Khobra-La would offer the masked paramilitary leader the means to achieve his goals in exchange for services to be rendered at some later date. While cautiously suspicious, the masked leader would take Khobra-La off on their offer. In honour of his new secret benefactors, the paramilitary organization would be called Cobra, and their leader would name himself Cobra Commander. Soon, Cobra has access to top-grade weapons and vehicles, as well as access to cutting edge scientific research in subjects as varied as mind-control and genetic engineering.
As Cobra’s influence and threat begins to spread, Joseph Colton, now a general, decides to revive the G.I. Joe team with a new roster of 150+ individuals handpicked from across the armed forces of the United States, and a few more unorthodox sources. One such source is the secretive Arashikage clan, the American descendants of Japanese immigrants who continue the ancient practice of ninjutsu, who sought to preserve their unique culture in the wake of the Meiji Restoration.
While the Joes’ main fight is against Cobra, the team occasionally finds itself up against other criminal groups, such as the technocratic I.R.O.N. Army, led by turncoat army lieutenant General Blitz, and the S.K.A.R. organization, who are infamously perceived by G.I. Joe as a bunch of irritating edge-lords, much to the annoyance of their leader Iron Klaw. They may also have the odd team-up/show-down with their eastern European counterparts the Oktober Guard.
The G.I. Joe team race to uncover the Cobra’s deadly secrets as they battle their ruthless forces, while Cobra Commander plays a deadly game of mental cat-and-mouse with his sinister Khobra-La benefactors….

India - Delhi - National Rail Museum - Dodge Brother Rail Bus - 3d by Manfred Sommer Via Flickr: The National Rail Museum is a museum in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi which focuses on the rail heritage of India it opened on the 1 February 1977. It is located in over 40,000 m2 of land with both indoor and outdoor exhibits. A toy train offers rides around that site on regular days. MAIN EXHIBITS - Patiala State Monorail Trainways: This unique steam monorail was built in 1907. This unusual train is based on the "Ewing System", and connected Bassi with Sirhind (approximate 6 miles). This was designed by Col. Bowles. The unique train system consists of a track of single rail. This mono track, the load-carrying wheel are run while one big iron wheel at other side to balance it and to keep the train upright. This train as built by Orenstein & Koppel of Berlin. This train ran till October 1927. In 1927 the line was closed with advent of better and faster modes of transportation such as cars and buses. Somehow, an engine and Chief Engineer's inspection car escaped being sold as scrap and remained in railway's scrap yard. In 1962, the remains of Patiala State Monorail Trainways was discovered by a railroad historian Mr. Mike Satow. Thereafter, one engine was restored to full working order by the Northern Railway Workshops at Amritsar. They also reconstructed the Chief Engineer's private inspection car on an old underframe. The two are now in running condition after being restored and are on display at National Rail Museum, New Delhi. - Fairy Queen, the world's oldest working steam locomotive in operational service. - Fire Engine: Morris Fire Engine was built by the famous fire engineers M/s. John Morris and Sons Ltd of Salford, Lancashire in 1914. Only two Morris-Belsize fire-engine are known to exist in world today. Apart from the one with National Rail Museum, New Delhi, a 1912 model is preserved by the Enfield and District Veteran Vehicle. The fire engine preserved at the Enfield and District Veteran Vehicle, Whitewebbs Museum of Transport, Clay Hill, London, has been converted to use pneumatic tyres by Dennis Bros. Thus, the fire engine at National Rail Museum is the only one left in the world running on solid rubber tyres. - Saloon of Prince of Wales: this saloon was built for Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) for his visit to India. - Saloon of Maharaja of Indore: This is saloon of Holkar Maharaja of Indore. - Saloon of Maharaja of Mysore: This is personal saloon of Maharaja of Mysore. The saloon is designed using teak, gold, ivory, etc. Electric locomotive 4502 Sir Leslie Wilson: This 1928 WCG-1 locomotive belonged to the Great Indian Peninsular Railway (presently Central Railway). It is one of India's first generation 1,500V DC electric locomotives. Railway employees fondly remember this locomotives as "khekdas" (crabs) since they make a curious moaning sound when at rest and while on the run an unusual swishing sound from the link motion can be heard. Its unusual features included an articulated body, which made them ideal for use in heavily curved ghat sections. They were in operation as shunting locomotives until 1994 at Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. - Electric locomotive Sir Roger Lumley: This WCP-1 engine has wheel arrangements which are not seen these days. The locos were supplied from the Vulcan Foundry, UK in 1930. It was an electric locomotive which operated under 1,500V DC. It is famous for hauling the Mumbai-Pune Deccan Queen Express in the early years when it was launched. A prototype of this locomotive has been placed at the Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai for public viewing. - Cranetank - Kalka Shimla Rail Bus - Matheran Rail Car No 8899 - Fireless steam locomotive - Steam Locomotive A -885 HASANG - Steam Locomotive X -37385 - This engine was used for trains to Ooty. - MG Diesel SR 203 ( Fowler Diesel ) - Electric Locomotive YCG -E1/21900 - Betty Tramways ( Fowler Diesel ) - This used to run in Rajkot owned by Rajkot-Beti Tramways. Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Review
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG: VIDEO GAME BASED MOVIE IS FORMULAIC BUT OFFERS PLENTY OF FAST-PACED FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY AS WELL AS LONGTIME FANS!
By Nico Beland
Movie Review: *** out of 4
Tumblr media
The world’s fastest hedgehog hits the big screen in Sonic the Hedgehog
PARAMOUNT PICTURES AND SEGA
The blue blur (or Blue Devil as the movie calls him) makes his big screen debut in Sonic the Hedgehog, based on the beloved Sega video game franchise of the same name. Believe it or not out of all the video game franchises, my favorite is and always will be Sonic the Hedgehog and have been a proud supporter of the hedgehog since childhood.
Granted, it wasn’t until after Sega became a third-party developer for consoles like PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo when I became a fan of the blue hedgehog, but ever since I got my hands on the Nintendo GameCube port of Sonic Adventure 2 as a kid, my Sonic fandom was pretty much instant. I’ve played many of the video games both old and new, watched all the cartoons, read the comic books published by Archie Comics at the time, and I owned several action figures, plushies, and other Sonic merchandise throughout my childhood…in fact I still have most of those even to this day.
I’ve been clamoring for a Sonic the Hedgehog theatrical movie for years despite video game film adaptations usually being critical and/or box-office poison. But given the popularity of Sonic especially during the 90s when he was rivaling Nintendo’s Mario franchise who already had a theatrical film released in 1993, I’d assume one would have been made back then or at the very least in the early-late 2000s when Sonic Adventure DX: Director’s Cut, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, and Sonic Heroes as well as the hit Saturday morning anime series, Sonic X were released, I was so eager for a Sonic movie that a couple of friends and I got together and made movies of our own when we were kids (They sucked BTW!).
After years of waiting and Sonic making a few big screen appearances prior in Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph movies and Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One, the beloved hedgehog finally gets a movie of his own which leads us to today. The film is directed by newcomer Jeff Fowler in his directorial debut, produced by Neal H. Moritz (Fast & Furious franchise, XXX, 21/22 Jump Street), and executive produced by Tim Miller (Deadpool, Terminator: Dark Fate) and is a live-action/animated hybrid (Yep, just like Alvin and the Chipmunks and The Smurfs), which had me very worried when it was announced back in 2014 and was even more worried and disgusted when the first trailer came out last year which had an absolutely atrocious design for Sonic, fortunately they fixed it.
So, how does Sonic’s first movie hold up? Honestly, while I can’t call it the Sonic movie I wanted as a child, I had a fun time with it. It isn’t a perfect representation of its source material and the plot is pretty generic, but the charm of the film’s leads, humor, and subtle references to the games that inspired it are enough for me to overlook that flaw.
The film follows Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz-Parks and Recreation, The Other Guys, The Walk), blue anthropomorphic talking hedgehog from another dimension with extraordinary speed who travels to Earth to escape from those who want to capture him and harness his power. However, when he accidentally causes a power outage while hiding out in the town of Green Hills (Get it?), Sonic is targeted by the government and the tyrannical mad scientist, Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey-Ace Ventura 1 and 2, The Mask, The Truman Show) who plots to use Sonic’s power for world domination.
This forces Sonic to team up with Green Hills sheriff, Tom Wachowski (James Marsden-X-Men franchise, Enchanted, Westworld) who agrees to help Sonic on his adventure to find his missing bag of magical rings that have the power to get him home. Of course, while getting into all sorts of trouble along the way.             The film also stars Tika Sumpter (Ride Along 1 and 2, Get On Up, Southside with You) as Tom’s wife Maddie, Adam Pally (Happy Endings, The Mindy Project, Iron Man 3) as Wade Whipple, and Neal McDonough (Star Trek: First Contact, Band of Brothers, Justified) as Major Bennington.
Overall, Sonic the Hedgehog probably isn’t the movie longtime fans wanted, but it still manages to be an entertaining and fun adaptation in its own right. It’s easily one of the best films based on a video game alongside Pokémon: Detective Pikachu and The Angry Birds Movie 2 and shows that we’ve come a long way since the dark days of Uwe Boll’s directing career.
As mentioned before, the plot is nothing special and rehashed from other kids’ movies however what sets this apart from things like The Smurfs or Masters of the Universe is that Sonic and Tom do have a strong chemistry together. It’s amusing to see them interact with each other on their road trip, cracking jokes, getting into trouble, and over the course of the film they learn more about one another thus making you care more for them over ANY Smurf or Chipmunk.
While there are a few jokes that don’t quite stick the landing, the humor for the most part not only made me laugh but there were moments in this movie where I laughed hard. Whether the film was poking fun at the entire Sonicfranchise, a particular running sequence that’s obviously a reference to the Quicksilver scenes from the X-Men movies, or Sonic breaking the fourth wall similar to Deadpool, I was laughing while also admiring how clever some of these jokes are, and let’s not forget Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, but we’ll get to him momentarily.
The redesigned Sonic is a lot better than what we could have gotten, he doesn’t have those ugly small eyes, questionable muscular arms and legs, or the terrifying human teeth anymore. Now, his appearance is more faithful to the source material recreating the hedgehog’s cartoony nature but is different enough to stand out from the rest of the character’s previous designs and be its own unique creation, this is a really good design for Sonic and had the filmmakers went with their original version, this movie would have crashed and burned even harder than Sonic ’06.
Besides Sonic being more appealing to look at now, he’s also just as entertaining to listen to, Ben Schwartz while he’s far from being a replacement for Roger Craig Smith, Ryan Drummond, Jason Griffith, or even Jaleel White, does a solid job providing Sonic’s voice and captures the cocky, arrogant, but good-natured attitude Sonic is known for having. He actually almost sounds like Ryan Drummond’s Sonic voice without sounding like a cheap impersonation.             Moving on to Sonic’s new friend that doesn’t have two tails, James Marsden as Tom, his performance is decent even though he doesn’t quite make as big an impression as Ben Schwartz’ Sonic and especially Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik. With that said, he gets some funny lines once in a while and as mentioned before has good chemistry with Sonic, so yeah, believe it or not James Marsden was partnered up with another CG animated character and this time came out with his dignity unlike his performance in Hop.
Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik owns every scene that he’s in, he’s no Mike Pollock and is a radically different Robotnik than from the games, but Carrey’s energetic and wildly animated personality shines through and gives a million percent whenever the crazy evil genius is on-screen. He’s certainly a lot better than Dennis Hopper as Koopa from the Super Mario Bros. movie.
Hopefully, this movie will be a hit during its theatrical run because I’d love to see a sequel especially if it introduced other Sonic characters like Tails, Knuckles, or even Shadow. Don’t make this like the recent Power Rangers movie, I need my big screen version of those characters!
Whether a fan, newcomer, or just looking for something fun to take the kids to, Sonic the Hedgehog should make everyone happy. It’s not perfect but it has enough action, wit, and charm to make it worth checking out. You’ll be “Up, Over, and Gone” before you know it.

Kate sends a clear message to Nicodemus, and sets Connor and Hank on the path to find him.
( Chapter Art by @theravenmother )

Chapter Index
-------------
November 12, 2038- 9PM
Kate stood in the kitchen with her arms crossed and stared at the window Connor had broken a week ago when he’d spotted Hank blackout drunk on his kitchen floor and tilted her head at the complete lack of forethought (from either of them) that had gone into that situation as a whole. It was almost comical. After Connor had broken the glass, before even checking to see if it was open, Hank hadn't even bothered to get it replaced. Instead, he’d haphazardly slapped a garbage bag over the window with some duct tape -in the middle of November- as if that was going to function as passable insulation. Kate shivered as her body shook from the back of her neck, down her spine, and into her arms and fingertips. It was sixty degrees in the house, but it wasn’t the cause for her involuntary spasms. It had been such a stressful night. Between Connor’s revelation about the people she trusted siding with her abuser, Hank and having to convince him that she shouldn’t be arrested, her nerves had finally fried around the time she’d re-lived her trauma to confide in Connor about Nicodemus and what he had done to her. And now she had to spend the next twelve hours alone in a stranger’s home, trying to decompress, without any of her gadgets or tools to keep her occupied. God how she wished she had the ability to sleep through the next twelve hours, but then again she was so wound up she wouldn’t be able to even if she tried. She glanced around the kitchen (which looked like it had never been fully unpacked) and set her jaw, then moved into the living room and traced her fingertips over the vinyl albums on the shelf next to the decorative wall dividing the two rooms. A few old-school metal bands like Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden, she recognized as she flipped through the records, but she was surprised to also find a variety of jazz and a couple of obscure garage punk bands from before 2020. “Didn’t peg him for a jazz guy…” she chuckled quietly as she pulled out one of the records and placed it carefully on the plateau, moved the brass arm and touched the needle of the reproducer down into the outermost grooves. The sound of mellow percussion, plucky guitar, low trumpet, and bass vibrato filled the room, smooth and silky. One hand twisted the dial on the volume until it was more of a background noise so she could enjoy the music without waking the sleeping men, just in time for reporter Michael Webb to cut to their anchor in the field, standing outside of the abandoned warehouse Connor and Hank had raided earlier.
… Thanks, Mike- I’m here at the decommissioned General Motors assembly plant where seven hours ago, Detroit Police discovered something profoundly disturbing. After an exchange of gunfire between Detroit Detectives and the Android suspects, police led a chase through the facility and uncovered several dozen stolen firearms that had been reported missing three weeks ago from the Detroit Light Guard Armory. One officer was injured and treated for a gunshot wound, but thankfully, no one was killed. While it is a win for DCPD that most of the missing firearms have been recovered, at least twenty have not yet been found, leading Police to believe that the Androids that remain at large are armed and dangerous. Of course, this begs the question on everyone’s minds- who are these Androids, and just how did they get their hands on military property? Are they affiliates of the Cyber Activist known as Illuminate? And could they be preparing for an eventual violent confrontation with humanity if we cannot reach common ground? Reporting live for Channel 16 News, I’m Joss Douglass...
No one was killed… Kate bristled and her lip curled as once again, they failed to mention the android lives lost to the confrontation, then jumped straight to blaming her for something they should have known better than to accuse her of. But this was inflammatory reporting at its finest- present facts alongside conjecture to lead the viewership to what would seem like a logical conclusion to anyone who didn’t have all the facts. Kate had dealt with these kinds of incidents before and she was always quick to give a speech to quell the unrest before it spread too far out of control, but tonight it would be more difficult than usual.
On a desk by the front window, Hank’s laptop sat open in hibernation. Even though her broadcasts were always live, she could pre-record her message right there in his living room and send it through her virtual private network to Axl and Reese to get the message out. It wouldn’t be hard to do at all. If she could just find a lighter to mimic candlelight and a chair to prop the computer up on, she could sit on the floor in the corner behind the front door away from other inconsistent light sources. The problem was masking the source of the recording in the metadata. A VPN wouldn’t be able to hide the embedded source data of the file linking it back to Hank’s personal laptop if the cops got hold of it, and she couldn’t in good conscience put him in that position after the courtesy he’d shown her that evening.
Kate pulled out the chair and sat down, placed her hand on the metal housing of the PC, logged into his guest account, and connected to her VPN, waiting for one of her associates to enter the chat and see her waiting. C’mon Sarah, I know you’re there, she started as her eyes drifted out the window, waiting for a response; a few seconds later, the soldier’s frantic voice clicked over the open channel in her mind, blocking out all of the other background noise in the room. Kate! Thank god, there you are! What’s going on? Are you alright? A grateful smile tugged into the corner of her mouth as she glanced down at the laptop keyboard in solemn thought. This didn’t sound like the voice of a woman who knew she’d betrayed her, so was it possible she didn’t even know who it was she was dealing with? Either way, there was no reason to dredge up the obvious until they could have that conversation face to face. Connor’s partner followed him to our meeting, she explained, And I got into a car with them and ended up at his house… Can you get away? She shook her head and pressed her lips together, even though body language meant nothing over the phone. I can’t leave right now, she denied. Well, why the hell not? she nearly shrieked. Is he keeping you there against your will? Do you need me to come get you? Kate’s face contorted nervously as she tried to calm Sarah’s overprotective “mother hen” instincts. No, no, nothing like that… I just need to stay overnight. What? Why? It’s… complicated, she confessed as she turned and looked over her shoulder at Connor, who was sleeping soundly on the couch. In the silence that followed, she could hear the all-too-familiar look of clenched teeth and frustrated sighs from behind closed lips that she was so used to seeing when the woman didn’t agree with her but relinquished her right to challenge her authority. Okay, but- what about your meeting with Markus? she reminded. We’re supposed to be making final preparations tomorrow for the Stratford Tower broadcast. I’ll be there, don’t worry, she assured, Just tell him I’ll be there late tomorrow night. There was a long pause on the other end before Sarah finally agreed, Okay, I’ll hold down the fort in your absence. Thank you, I know you will. A small sigh of relief escaped her. At least if Connor and Hank followed up on the case tomorrow, she wouldn’t be around to be caught in the middle of whatever came next. She wouldn’t have to worry about her safety for at least another day. Sarah, while I’ve got your attention, I need your help with something, she admitted, circling back to the real reason for her call. Anything, she replied without hesitation. Just name it.
She swallowed the lump in her throat that rose at the thought of her message blindsiding Sarah like the slap to the face that it was. Kate knew it wasn’t in her nature to want to genuinely hurt anyone, but she hoped that she would at least feel guilty for going against her methods. I need to send out a broadcast in the morning, she explained as she worked on partitioning a small part of the laptop’s drive and locking it behind an extensive encryption pattern. I’m going to record it on the laptop here and send it your way, but I need you to scrub the source data clean. The hesitation before her response came across as condescending. Okay, but… why? she almost sneered. Kate sighed. Hank took a chance tonight and stuck his neck out for me, so I have to make sure I’m doing the same for him, she replied, honest and thoughtful. It wouldn’t be right of me to take advantage of his kindness and hang him out to dry. Sarah growled under her breath before agreeing to her request with a warning. Alright, but just be wary, Kate. Those people aren’t on our side, you can’t trust them. Actually, I’m starting to think I can, she contradicted as a quiet afterthought. But we can talk about that when I see you tomorrow. Just watch your back, Kate, she insisted. I love you like a sister but sometimes you can be hopelessly naive. Don’t make me come bustin’ the door down. I’ll be fine, Sarah, but I appreciate your concern, she reiterated out of irritation. Just keep an eye on the server link, scrub that data, and have Reese and Axl upload it as soon as possible. This needs to get out just as the city starts to wake. It’s important. You got it.
The line cut out and she was struck full force by the ambient noise in the room once again- the sounds of court shoes squeaking across waxed hardwood, jazz music, rain and all. Kate looked down at Sumo as he stretched and yawned from his spot beside her and she leaned down to rub his side with a small grin. “Looks like it’s just you and me, big guy,” she said as she picked up the laptop, placed it on the chair, and dragged them both to the dark corner across the room, behind the front door. “Just do me a favor and don’t interrupt, alright?” The big dog puffed out a low, growly whuff in lazy response as he nudged his head into her lap and laid down with his giant paws over her thigh. Kate lifted her brows and let out a big, long sigh as she removed her shirt and deactivated her skin, then stroked the dog’s head. She already knew he was going to be invasive, but she couldn’t bring herself to be upset about it. Because who could resist such a big, clumsy teddy bear like him?
November 13, 2038- 9AM
It had taken sixteen attempts to record a flawless take worthy of sending her message. Every time she sat down on the floor, Sumo would make his way over to investigate- the first few times he’d just crowded her space and broken frame with the tip of his snout, but when she started really getting into her speech, he pushed her over in an attempt to smother her anger. It did get aggravating, having to recite her speech so many times as compared to her usual single-takes, but after a while she’d simply stopped caring and thrown herself into all one hundred and seventy pounds of the dog like a beanbag chair and hugged him to sleep. But even then, it didn’t stop her from goofing off. By 2AM, after a ridiculous number of interrupting giggle loops, scrapped lines, and impromptu games of tug-o-war with her new friend, she’d sent the final take with just enough time for her associates to follow through with making sure the file was untraceable. Kate’s message was strong, her words carefully chosen but more directed this time, toward another audience that could only know itself. Part of her felt bad about indirectly calling out her friends in a public speech about their behavior instead of just addressing the problem directly, but she wanted to give them the opportunity to be honest with her about what they’d done before she was forced to confront them herself.
When Connor and Hank awoke, she was in the kitchen washing dishes, having just finished making what she could of the few “still fresh” ingredients in Hank’s refrigerator that wasn’t liquor or instant food, which by Connor’s still-waking deductions had amounted to eggs, toast, and a fresh pot of coffee. The Android blinked his brown eyes open and reached up to rub the sleep from them with the heels of his hands, sat up and leaned over his knees. In the background, Joss Douglas was already hard at work reporting on the broadcast made just two hours before.
… has spoken out against the Androids who had stolen these firearms, and condemned their actions as “a detriment to their message of equality and compromise”. While we do not know if these Androids were at all linked with Illuminate’s activities before in some way, it is clear at least for now that they do not share the same ideology…
“What the hell…?” Kate glanced over her shoulder at Hank as he shuffled into the kitchen from the back of the house, and grinned at the tired old man with a cheerful, “Morning!” “Kate, not that I don’t appreciate it, but when I said you could stay, I didn’t mean you had ta…” One hand gestured through the empty air in front of him as he motioned to the food and coffee, and he took a second glance at the empty table as he swiped two fingers across his now squeaky clean countertop. “Did… did you clean my kitchen!?” “I got bored,” she replied in a nonchalant tone with a shrug, “Couldn’t sleep.” “Yeah, I can see that,” Connor commented as he stared at the television as they started to replay her broadcast, popped his brows and looked back over at her. “How did you even broadcast from here?” Illuminate tossed him a small wink and an innocent smirk. “I’m afraid that’s a trade secret, Detective.” Connor chuckled quietly and rolled his eyes as he stood and readjusted his shirt and tie, keeping an eye on the television as they replayed her broadcast for the third time that morning.
...Citizens of Detroit, allow me to illuminate your perception once more with the first light of the rising sun. Last night, police uncovered a stash of stolen firearms in the possession of an unidentified group of deviant androids. And immediately, Channel 16 News rushed to pin this on a bloodthirsty pretext to an attack on humankind, sanctioned by yours truly. I do NOT have the time or the patience for your mendacious anecdotes! Your repeated attempts to paint my message in the darkest shades of violence and bigotry are desperate and deplorable, undeserving of the privilege of the freedom of speech that your ancestors fought and died for. Shame, on, you. War is not in my vision for us, but as you can see, that doesn’t mean that it isn’t a part of someone else’s master plan. Let me assure you, here and now- the Androids responsible for this are no friends of mine. I would NEVER encourage the idea of bloodshed over calm and open discussion, because It would be a detriment to my message of equality and compromise. So be warned, my dear city, that whoever is responsible for this has made an enemy of Illuminate, and they will not hide from the light for long...
“Have you heard from Vivienne yet?” he redirected as Hank sat down at the kitchen table and reached for the cup of coffee as Kate handed it to him. The Lieutenant sighed and leered at him out of the corner of his eye. “Connor, I just woke up, I haven’t thought about the job in twelve hours- and besides,” he added with emphasis on the sideways shift of his eyes in Kate’s direction as he cleared his throat and gave him a stern look. “What?” Connor cocked his head in confusion as Hank sighed heavily. “I don’t think we should talk about the case around our new friend here.” “Oh.” He blinked in realization. “Well, actually, she’s given us a lead on who we should be looking for.” Anderson’s brow lifted mid-sip and as he set the cup down on the table he leaned forward and narrowed his eyes into a curious squint. “Oh, yeah…? Is that what you two were talking about so intently last night?” “You were eavesdropping?” he asked in surprise. “Why didn’t you just come out and listen?” Hank’s eyes lowered, averting his gaze so he couldn’t see the pain in them. The truth was, he’d wanted to come out and join the conversation, but he’d heard just enough to remind him that he was no longer the man he once was, and he had been too ashamed to pretend he was at all as brave as the deviant risking her life for the prospect of peace. “I didn’t wanna make her uncomfortable,” he fibbed. “Think she’d had enough excitement for one night, without me listening in on your personal conversations.” Kate gave him a grateful wide-eyed nod as she set down the plate of food and sat down in the chair across from him. “Well… I appreciate you giving us space, it wasn’t an easy conversation to get through at some parts.” Hank’s expression softened. “Yeah? Why’s that?”
Kate’s upper lip curled as Nicodemus’ smug grin immediately pervaded her mind and her chin twitched angrily as she closed her eyes, held her breath, and tried to pick up again from where she’d left off with him last night. “You’re going after the wrong people,” she repeated, looking him dead in the eye and this time begging him to understand. “The one you’re looking for -and probably the one behind the firearms heist- is a deviant AP700 by the name of Nicodemus.” Suspicion seeped into the corners of his narrowing eyes. “How are you so sure…?” he asked, setting down the coffee mug. She hesitated, the answer as bitter on her tongue as it was when she’d admitted it just twelve hours earlier. “We have… history,” she admitted shamefully. “We were allies once before our ideals drove us apart- where I believe we can reach a mutual understanding through communication and compromise, he promotes genocide and war using uprising and anarchy as his soapbox.”
The look that stained Hank’s face couldn’t be described as anything short of deeply disturbed, and he had every right to be. If Androids started believing the annihilation of the human race was the answer to all their problems, humanity wouldn’t stand a chance. It’d be over in a matter of hours. Hank turned silvered-blue eyes to Connor, who just gave him a solemn nod before casting his gaze to the floor in understanding. When he said nothing, Kate released a quiet sigh. “Look, I’ve met a lot of deviants since I deviated- there are very few still in this city that I haven’t been able to help,” she elaborated as she pushed her hands toward the center of the table and leaned toward him. “Those other deviants you’ve been chasing aren’t violent, they’re just being manipulated by him.” “Do you know who they are?” Hank asked, mechanical in his questioning. When he didn’t think to ask why she knew and moved on with the conversation, she thanked her lucky stars. “I do, but I won’t give them to you, I’m sorry,” she apologized. “This is all I can really give you.” “No, no- this is still way more than we had to work with before,” he encouraged as he moved one of the fried eggs onto a piece of toast and readied himself for a bite. “Do you have any idea where we could find him?” “I’m afraid not,” she answered truthfully. “I haven’t had contact with him in over a year, so I have no idea where he’s been squatting. I mean, hell…” One of her hands reached to cover her face before raking her nails through her hair and jostling her messy bun. “I didn’t even know he was still in town until Connor confirmed he saw him just yesterday.” The old cop stopped mid-chew and flashed him a surprised look and swallowed before asking, “Is that true?” “I’ve ascertained that Nicodemus was one of the deviants we chased through the warehouse yesterday,” he confirmed with a nod. “So if we find him-“ “We find the rest of ‘em,” Hank finished before he could get the words out. As he stood he reached across the table and slapped a congratulatory hand over Kate’s shoulder, then Connor’s with a “Nice work, kids” over his shoulder as he passed on his way to his room.
The boy blinked in confusion at the affectionate gesture before rolling down the cuffs of his shirt. He couldn’t lie, he was a little jealous at the ease and speed that Kate and Hank had established a basis of trust. It had taken him four days, several near-deviancies, and a lot of thought-provoking conversation to get her to start speaking with him more freely, but their common ground (or perhaps just Hank’s ability to empathize) made it so effortless. Connor chuckled as he buttoned his sleeve cuffs back together. “I think he likes you,” he brooded, eyes focused on his fingertips as they slipped the plastic pieces through the holes in the fabric. A smile played into her cheeks as she stood and moved into the living room. “I don’t know about that,” she deflected as she reached around him for the blazer laying over the back of the couch, then held the coat up so he could slip his arms into the sleeves more easily. “Useful, maybe, but I wouldn’t go that far.” “Then you haven’t seen the way he treated me when we first met...” he inferred, quiet melancholy carrying in the way his voice trailed off. Her hands settled against the backs of his shoulders with a light touch as she dropped the jacket onto them, but withdrew as he turned around, ducked her chin and shook her head. “You’re a little abrasive, RK,” she stated with a nod and bemused grin as she moved to smooth the shoulders of his coat and straighten out the lapel, averting his gaze until the last second. “I know you can be empathetic, but you bury it because you’re so afraid of what it would mean if you were- and that doesn't always sit well with people.” A small twitch lifted his brow between the eyes and wrinkled his forehead in dismay, as that familiar warning flashed out of the corner of his eye. She wasn’t wrong, but the explanation didn’t make him feel better; in fact, it made him feel worse. Connor lowered his eyes, crestfallen, but soft fingertips along his jaw brought them right back up. “Hey.” Her smile was warm and encouraging, and he relaxed almost as if he knew what she was about to say next. “It’s alright- it just means you have to work a little harder than others… and honestly?” she paused to raise her brows at him. “Persistence is a much better foundation for building trust than being able to sweet talk your way into it.” Connor tried to smother the bashful grin as it crept up into his cheeks, but couldn’t contain it for long. “I’ll take that as a compliment,” he diverted as Hank emerged from his bedroom, looking like he was ready to start the day. “You should,” she insisted, blue eyes fixated intently on his as she gave his arm a firm squeeze. “Because putting forth the extra effort to understand is what makes you a good person.”
A feeling unlike anything he’d ever felt before welled up inside of him so strong he thought he might cry. Appreciation bloomed into every last artificial muscle in his face and he released a shaky breath through an open mouth. Connor hadn’t realized how badly he’d needed to hear it until that moment- because the one thing that had been eating at him more than anything, was the self-loathing that came with being torn between what (he thought) he knew and what he’d learned. He hated himself for his inability to understand (or maybe accept) Kate’s truths. Every frustrated sigh and disappointed smile cut into a heart he didn’t know he had, so to hear that she appreciated him in spite of those shortcomings...? She may as well have kissed him. The way he stared as she stepped away from him conveyed his desire to thank her, but before he could, Hank nudged him along. “C’mon, we need to figure out how we’re gonna explain this lead to Fowler.” “Oh, I’ve already taken care of that,” she informed, turning her attention to the Lieutenant. “There should be an envelope on your desk when you arrive- surveillance photos, old but good enough to give you a clear shot of his face, and I’m sure your boss will be fine with an anonymous tip.” Hank blinked hard and shook his head. “Man, you really were busy last night. How did you manage to get that done?” “I have friends in low places,” she replied, standoffish yet informative. “But it doesn’t matter where the information comes from- he’s a danger to everyone if left unchecked.” Hank gave a quiet sigh and simply nodded in understanding. “Do you need a ride anywhere?” he offered, just to be polite. “Not until later tonight, if you don’t mind,” she said as she sat back on her heels and crossed her arms. “I want to stay off the FBI’s radar until their focus shifts onto the real threat.” There was a hint of judgmental snark in the question. “Are you expecting them to just forget about you in a few hours?” “No, but I expect them to be thoroughly distracted, granted your facial recognition software spots Nicodemus on the streets before then,” she concluded with a smirk, which Hank returned as he laughed and shook his head. “You sly little… alright, just- stay here, and don’t draw any attention to yourself. I got nosey neighbors who’ll find any excuse to come knockin' on my door, ” he instructed over his shoulder on his way to the front door. “I’ll be back around six, I can take you back then.” The girl shook her head and rolled her eyes with a small smile. “I’ll stay out of sight, thanks, Hank.”
“Do you really think I’m a good person…?” came his timid question, the only thing he could bring himself to say after such a moving revelation. Connor hadn’t moved from his place beside her, even as his partner beckoned him out the door. He was still stunned by her admission. Kate turned back to his questioning eyes, searching them for a moment as if looking to make sure what she’d seen in him was “still there”. “If you aren't, then you’re learning very quickly how to become one,” she affirmed with a barely visible smile. Connor’s brow twitched and his cheeks pulled at the corners of his eyes until he smiled rather pathetically, not unlike a puppy begging for attention, and took in a ragged breath. It was the nicest thing anyone had ever said about him. Ignoring the warnings flashing in the back of his mind, he managed a reply with every bit of gratitude in his being, which was the only proper response. “Thank you.” “Connor!” Hank barked from the porch, getting impatient. “You comin’ or what?” “Well, what are you waiting for...?” Kate gave him one last big grin and a soft wink as she nudged him with her elbow toward the door. “Go get em’, tiger.”

Gardens, Courtyards, and Parks: Hidden Outdoor Spaces in the NY Metro Area
Curated by our Halstead agents
Few things are as coveted in the New York City area as green spaces. In the summertime especially, we all search for nature-filled areas to escape the noise, crowds, and pace of city life. We all know of the world-famous parks and gardens the area has to offer, but what about the lesser-known green spots—the secret gardens, hidden courtyards, and easily missed parks?
No one knows the hidden gems of New York City and its surrounding towns and cities better than our agents. So we asked them to share their favorite outdoor hideaways so that we can explore them for ourselves. Take a look at the hidden outdoor spaces they recommended, and find your new favorite place to unwind.
Palma West Village, NYC
“On a charming single-block street tucked away in the West Village is a restaurant that understands how to do garden dining right,” Janet Weiner shares. “With farmhouse décor and flowers everywhere you are transported to a romantic trattoria in Italy.” At Palma, attention to detail resonates in everything.
“Faithful to generations of family recipes and traditions and using only organic ingredients, the food is sublime—don’t pass up the pasta! The garden in back, overflowing with flowers and roses, is not to be missed. Its retractable glass ceiling makes outdoor dining possible year round.”
Janet recommends booking a table in the private carriage house for an intimate dinner party, while reserving the garden for a more festive event like an engagement or birthday party. “Dining in the garden at Palma is like taking a weekend getaway in the Italian countryside without leaving New York.”
Recommended by Janet Weiner of our Village office
Half-Moon Overlook Spuyten Duyvil, The Bronx
An intimate space on Palisade Avenue in Spuyten Duyvil, Half-Moon Overlook faces west and gives you a view of where the Hudson and Harlem Rivers meet. The small park is named for Henry Hudson's ship, the Halve Maen, and it is a beautiful perch to watch the sunset from and forget you're in a big city.
Recommended by the Sanjya Tidke Team of our Riverdale office
The Maidstone East Hampton, NY
The Maidstone has cozy fireplaces and a great bar inside, but it also has a beautiful garden where you can enjoy a drink or a meal. With umbrella-covered tables, benches, and plenty of greenery dotting the area, the garden is a great place to enjoy a friend’s company or sip on drinks with a larger group.
Shaded by large trees, there is a peaceful, almost park-like atmosphere here. “The grounds are absolutely beautiful,” Ani Antreasyan says. “And as a landscape designer, it’s one of my favorite places to hang out in East Hampton.”
Recommended by Ani Antreasyan of our East Hampton office
Amster Yard Turtle Bay, NYC
Tucked behind Instituto Cervantes, the Spanish Cultural Institute, Amster Yard is a true hidden gem. Vivian Ducat goes to this courtyard refuge to work sometimes and enjoys the Victorian atmosphere, with its iron grille work, wrought-iron chairs, and beautiful greenery.
Recommended by Vivian Ducat of our Harlem office
Rowayton Community Center Courtyard Rowayton, Connecticut
The land where Rowayton Library sits has a long and interesting history. Built over 100 years ago, the building that now contains the library used to be a barn and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Mike Barbis, who is a Commissioner for the town, shares the beauty of the barn's courtyard. It was renovated a few years ago and includes café chairs and tables where you can read or simply enjoy your surroundings. There's even a 100-year-old English Yew. On the property you can also find the dog park and the greenhouse, known as the Potting Shed.
Recommended by Mike Barbis of our Darien office
Tudor City Greens Tudor City, NYC
Two elevated spaces above 42nd Street and First Avenue offer a breath of fresh, quiet air above the maddening crowds below. The gardens are maintained by a neighborhood non-profit and boast much-needed shade, flower beds, benches, and gorgeous views.
Recommended by Madeleine Dale of our West Side office
Mount Prospect Park Prospect Heights, Brooklyn
A little-known park nestled between the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and the Central Library, Mount Prospect Park contains the second highest point in all of Brooklyn and was used as a lookout point during the Revolutionary War. The park is now frequented by locals and their dogs for early-morning playtime. It's close to Kris Sylvester's home, so he often goes there with his daughter so that she can practice riding her bicycle.
Recommended by Kris Sylvester of our Village office
West Side Community Garden Upper West Side, NYC
Amelia Gewirtz was on her way to a friend's house when she heard jazz coming from a flower-filled area on 89th Street. She had happened upon the West Side Community Garden, hidden between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues. Since then, the serene hideaway has become Amelia's favorite hidden garden, not only because of its stunning atmosphere, but also because of the many free music and theater events that are hosted there.
Recommended by Amelia Gewirtz of our West Side office
Terrain Garden Cafe  Westport, Connecticut
Terrain's greenhouse cafe has beautiful décor and seasonal menus, and there is an outdoor section as well. Enjoy a peaceful meal here surrounded by the lush greenery.
Recommended by Alison Mark of our Westport office
St. Luke's Garden West Village, NYC
A green oasis in the West Village, the garden belonging to The Church of St. Luke in the Fields is a home for flowers, berries, birds, and butterflies. This is where Bo Poulsen used to have lunch, and though it's in plain sight, it's not nearly as visited as you would think.
Recommended by Bo Poulsen of our Village office
The Elevated Acre Financial District, NYC
Take the escalator at 55 Water Street to discover an expansive urban oasis above the bustle of the Financial District. Here you will find landscaped gardens, a lawn, winding paths, a beer garden, and an amphitheater. The views are pretty incredible, too.
Recommended by Madeleine Dale of our West Side office
Paerdegat Park East Flatbush, Brooklyn
Found in a part of Brooklyn with a lack of green spaces, Paerdegat Park offers a full recreation center including basketball and handball courts, a playground, benches, and most importantly, trees.
Recommended by Wilford Nelson of our Fort Greene office
New Canaan’s Protected Lands New Canaan, Connecticut
The New Canaan Land Trust owns over 350 acres of land across the town in an effort to conserve the spaces. Included are the Bristow Bird Sanctuary, Watson-Symington Woodlands, Browne Preserve, and Silvermine Fowler Preserve. Found dotted around the town, these areas have diverse terrains and feature rivers, meadows, reservoirs, and wildlife.
Recommended by John Engel of our New Canaan office
Greenacre Park Turtle Bay, NYC
A beautiful urban green space nestled between Second and Third Avenues on 51st Street, Greenacre Park is a serene escape from the bustle of the city. It features a 25-foot-high waterfall flowing down a granite wall, a rarity in New York City. “It’s truly a hidden gem,” Ali Rubenstein says.
“Mature trees and landscaping fill the space to create a jungle-like atmosphere with tables and chairs sprinkled throughout. It’s a few blocks away from my apartment, so I frequent this tranquil oasis on the weekends in the spring and summer to enjoy my morning coffee. I always leave feeling refreshed and at peace.”
Recommended by Ali Rubenstein of our Brand Team
Liz Christy Community Garden The Bowery, NYC
The oldest community garden in New York City, this green space was established by Liz Christy and a group of “green guerrillas” that cleaned up and beautified the then vacant lot. Today, you can find a pond, wildflower habitat, weeping birch trees, vegetable gardens, a grape arbor, and more.
Recommended by Madeleine Dale of our West Side office
Columbia Manhattanville Courtyard Manhattanville, NYC
Vivian Ducat was searching for a comfortable outdoor space to relax, so she headed to Columbia University’s Manhattanville campus. She walked alongside the Jerome L. Greene Science Center and came upon a lovely courtyard with shade-providing trees and colorful chairs and benches. “A breeze off the river makes it a very pleasant place to sit,” Vivian says.
Recommended by Vivian Ducat of our Harlem office
Public Hotel Garden Lower East Side, NYC
The Public Hotel has the popular Bowery Garden on its rooftop, but for a more casual atmosphere, try the small garden directly in front of the building on Chrystie Street. The space has picnic tables for you to enjoy a meal (consider getting something from the Jean-Georges food bar inside) and have a nice respite from the city.

The Avengers vs. Game of Thrones; an All-Star Game
We are going to let the dust settle in the over packed weekend between the release of Marvel’s End Game and HBO’s Game of Thrones. The worst thing that you can look up on the internet is any spoilers your horrible friends or coworkers can have already bragged about seeing both this weekend. Instead of making another post of, “This is what you missed this weekend...” I am going to do something a little more fun...at least from my point of view.
Since both storylines are ending, I feel like there needs to be a championed crowned in which franchise is better. Now every nerd that I know (including me being one of them) would simply pin them against each other in combat to see who would win in battle. The only unfortunate circumstance that entails is having fantasy realm versus the over whelming edge of anyone who has superpowers. Instead of giving out heroes a humbling death, I’d rather have them square off against each other in a “fantasy baseball” game to see which team is considered more worthy of being the best.
***Note to reader: I do not own any of the following characters in the writing of this blog. All characters belong to the property of Marvel Comics, the Home Broadcasting Network, and George R.R. Martin. Everything in this post is written completely in parody for entertaining purposes and all rights are reserved. The following lineups are the position players of each of the following teams:
Team Avengers:
Tumblr media
C- Captain America: The leader of the Avengers will take the best position where he can call all the shots, behind home plate. Playing the backstop will make sure no one would run on the First Avenger as he feeds a laser to any one of his teammates if they are stealing. Cap has mentioned before that he was a fan of the New York Yankees; consider him a more lethal Yogi Berra, but with the true American spirit of the other “Captain,” Jason Varitek.
1B- Hulk: The strongest Avenger will deliver a great deal of power being the first baseman for the Avengers. A towering command of strength will be a guaranteed home run at the plate...as long as he not going ballistic in rage if ends up striking out instead. Consider this dude putting the Big Hurt on you, Frank Thomas style.
2B- Black Panther: the King of Wakanda will be one of the quickest infielders whether he is playing the shift or conducting a double play to any of the Avenger-basemen. The highly skilled king will also be a playmaker every time he goes to bat for the team, a guaranteed hit to make sure he gets on base. Let us not forget, for all you movie nerds that the actor who played T’Challa also played Jackie Robinson in a stand-alone biopic.
Tumblr media
3B- Thor: The other ruler on this ball diamond who will deliver some great power behind the plate using Mjoliner. The first to third connection to Hulk is the only other Avenger who is capable of catching a fast throw from the God of Thunder. If you ever imagined what Chipper Jones would look like with long hair and a beard, he definitely would be the best representation of the Asgardian.
SS- Ant Man: I could not help myself putting a hero who can shrink down to a position that is a good play on words. As funny as that sounds, that superpower would come in handy being able to grow to a giant in order to snag a line drive that would not end up reaching the gap to the outfield. As crafty as Scott Lang would be, he also developed some “magic tricks” while not wearing the infamous suit; did you know that Javier Baez’s nickname for his tricks is “El Mago”?
LF- Dr. Strange: The legitimate Sorcerer Supreme will be the real magician on the field displaying his talents in left field. The biggest piece of this defense will make plays from anywhere and everywhere on the field. Nothing will leave the yard and Dr. Strange will make sure almost every time that no base runner from the opposite team will advance, even if it is to home plate. Consider Dr. Strange the best left fielder in the game, right there next to the legend himself: Ted Williams.
CF- Iron Man: The man who is in line exactly with Captain America with guarding the diameter of the ballpark; Iron Man. Tony Stark will be orchestrating all the patterns in the outfield and making sure not a single ball will leave the field. With the entire arsenal in his suit, Iron Man can put the ball anywhere into play from on base single to a grand slam home run. There is only one true “Iron Man” playing center field on the field right now, and his name is Mike Trout.
Tumblr media
RF- Spider-Man: Who would have ever thought that nerdy Peter Parker would be stuck in right field for the Avengers? The final asset to the outfield for this team makes them close enough to flawless on defense; there is no excuse for anything to go over the web-slinger’s head operating the right field foul post. The Queens native will do everything possible to demonstrate his best attempt at being a New York Met, perhaps channeling the athleticism of the greatest Met to play right field; Ron Swoboda.
Starting Pitcher- Hawkeye: You give Clint Barton, who has the best accuracy of all his teammates, the ball as the starting pitcher for the Avengers and he is nailing the ball in the strike zone every pitch of the game. Hawkeye has heat, skill, and durability in order to paint the corners of the batter’s box as his own personal target. As much versatility this mighty hero has, Hawkeye will gather as many strikeouts as Nolan Ryan trying to pitch a winning game for the Avengers.
Team Game of Thrones:
Tumblr media
C- Sandor “The Hound” Clegane: Had Hodor still be alive this far into the series, he most likely would make as good as a back stop, but Clegane has more brute force and a better defensive mind set. Clegane is an aggressive fighter known all over Westeros, he will carry the same reputation while at the plate tearing up pitchers. As good as any swordsman, his power can drive in any runner on base to get the quick RBI. Give Clegane the best comparison to Mike Piazza; for being well known but never winning anything of true honor.
1B- Jamie Lannister: The “Kingslayer” will look to add new target to the two crowns he faces on the opposing end. Lannister also has an altered handicapped having an iron hand for his right hand, making him left-handed batter that could deliver power with some iron behind it. From the Young Lion to Iron Lion, Lannister will be a definite Silver Slugger with what he delivers offensively. Scrapping with some of the best adversaries, Lannister is a mighty competitor with the resume proving he is mighty fighter; close enough to the royalty on what Lou Gehrig shared in the game as a champion.
Tumblr media
2B- Grey Worm: the Unsullied leader will make a fine slugger at second base for the team that represents the seven kingdoms. With his attacking style, his batting profile will have him as a threat every time he goes to bat for the Throne. His offense will reflect well with his defense, collecting as many double plays as the adversaries he will be facing. Seeking no mercy, Grey Worm’s lethal style will be the same as Craig Biggio.
3B- Tormund: The mighty Wildling will display some impressive hacking skill at the plate, trying to outperform not only his teammates, but also the ones he will face. Tormund will display an aggressive playing style on defense, being the last stand on the diamond preventing anyone that will attempt to score against the Throne. The wild personality of “Giant’s Bane” makes him a fan favorite to anyone watching him from the stands. Before he became an internet sensation, I had heavy beliefs that Justin Turner was a distant relative as a Wildling for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Tumblr media
SS- Tyrion Lannister: I thought I had my fill at the “short” jokes with the position assignment; however, I could not resist assigning this one to “the Imp” of House Lannister. The skillful Tyrion may not have anything to add on offense, but he will be even a bigger asset on defense in the infield. With his genius intellect, he will execute simple plays that demonstrate preventing runs from advancing on the bases. To fool his opponents, he will have the size of Jose Altuve, the mechanics like Ozzie Smith, and the drinking capability of Wade Boggs.
LF- Daario Naharis: A crafty warrior representing the fighters of House Targaryen, Naharis will display amazing acrobatics in left field for the Throne. With Tormund being the entertainment of the roster, Naharis will be the heartthrob for the ladies in the stands. As much skill as he has as a fighter, he will deliver on base hits that will guarantee him to be a threat on the bags; this also includes the probability of stealing a great deal of bases being a stealth fighter as well. Daario Naharis has not shown his presence as of lately on the show, perhaps his skills are a legend as are the tales of Shoeless Joe Jackson.
CF- Gendry: As a bastard son of the last Baratheon King that sat on the Iron Throne, Gendry is a skilled swordsman that carries his own for the team for the Throne. A worthy batter, he has been trained and skilled in many houses in order to become one of the best threats at the plate. His skills are kept as a secret, in order to be known as a quiet threat at the plate. Gendry is a big team player and contributes to a great deal of assists on the field; you can compare him to a young Dexter Fowler.
Tumblr media
RF- Euron Greyjoy: the raging pirate and king of House Greyjoy has a great deal pf power and strength to display at the plate. Euron is a force to reckon with being an offensive asset that is lethal and dangerous to be facing. With his brute force, he also holds a great defensive mind set holding down right field and a threat to anyone who tags on the bases. As a pirate, you can expect him to “loot” the bases as a quick threat, despite his brute stature. Euron Greyjoy may have the capability to play like Reggie Jackson.
Starting Pitcher- Jon Snow/Aegon Targaryen: The Lord Commander of the North will demonstrate all of his best mechanics at the mound. After being trained by House Stark and the Night’s Watch, he has the entire arsenal to deliver the best variety of pitches on the mound. After discovering that he is the true air to the Iron Throne being a Targaryen, it gave him that little extra special push to have some of the best heat to deliver to the strike zone. Torching pitches with lethal command makes Jon Snow comparable to Greg Maddux
Tumblr media
Both rosters have talented line ups on both end of the field, however I feel like I’m going to get some criticism for the lack of variety from other key characters in the series. It is also important to understand that in baseball, you cannot win championships without spectacular pitching. The following key characters of both team are your all-star studded cast for their bullpens, respectfully:
Team Avengers Bullpen:
Relief Pitcher- Black Widow: The first call to the bullpen will be Hawkeye’s first partner in crime: Natasha Romanoff. Carrying on to what Barton has with accuracy, Black Widow is not too far off from what they share in target practice. Romanoff will do “whatever it takes” to get the job done and carry on the game to the next inning. Expect Black Widow’s relief style to be swift, like Aroldis Chapman.
Relief Pitcher- Scarlett Witch: The set up woman for the Avengers would be perfect putting the ball in Scarlett Witch’s hands. Her control of the ball is what is going to be essential in those dramatic moments when the game is at its highest peak. Scarlett Witch will be casting all types of spells delivered to the strike zone, leaving hitters in a daze and possibly confused. With the amount of pitches she will deliver, you can compare Scarlett Witch to Josh Hader.
Closer- Captain Marvel: In the period where the game will be at its climax, if the Avengers are in trouble or ahead, they will look to Carol Danvers for the save. Captain Marvel delivers the best presence on the mound for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, as she will be dialed in ninth inning. With her supernova strength, all of her pitches will be close to untouchable, it will be close to near impossible to get a single hit off of her. With the filthiest stuff in the bullpen, Captain Marvel models her pitching style as Trevor Hoffman did in most closing scenarios.
Tumblr media
 Team Game of Thrones Bullpen:
Relief Pitcher- Brienne of Tarth: Brienne is fantastic substitute player than can play anywhere in the outfield as well as be a legitimate contact hitter for the Throne. What is even more special in characteristics of her mechanics is how well she stays on target. Brienne has the capability of being a relief pitcher in order to deliver success if the team is in need of aid. With her tall frame and power, she has the ability to command and pound the strike zone. Brienne may look like Billy Wagner on the mound if she gets the chance to relieve Snow in the game.
Relief Pitcher- Daenerys Targaryen: Enter the “Mother of Dragons” herself; Daenerys is the perfect set up woman if the Throne baseball team has a commanding lead. With the power influence of a dragon, she can torch the strike zone without fail and delivers her signature strikeout of each batter: DraKarys! Dany has the pitching mechanics like Craig Kimbrel and could possibly give him a run for his money as a better relief pitcher.
Closer- Arya Stark: Enter the secret assassin who has many faces. Arya Stark has proven to be one of the most dangerous assets (and in this case, teammates) on the side of the Iron Throne. With last night’s reveal, it should be known that she is not a force to reckon with in the deadly Game of Thrones. With her killer instinct on knowing how to dismantle players, she will have lights out stuff to throw from the mound. You can compare Arya to the likes of Mariano Rivera, because you will never see her coming and will not be fortunate to be left alive…in the batter’s box.
Tumblr media
With this All Star cast facing each other in something that you would probably pay a great deal of money to see at Comic Con, who do you think would win this amazing baseball match up? I leave the result to be held in the world of imagination, but if this carries on as a thread, I would love to see how baseball fans would have this adaptation of fantasy baseball. We are more than fortunate for both of these franchises being a part of our lives over the past decade. With the influence of baseball, both of these team would be a great mash up to see play each other in a match for the ages.

Good comedies
Always Be My Maybe (Nahnatchka Khan, 2019): This has honestly everything you could ask for in a rom com, including tremendous performances by an all-POC cast
Gente que viene y bah (Patricia Font, 2019): Pretty much your standard fare rom com, I did enjoy it a lot though
The Boss (Ben Falcone, 2016): This opens with Melissa McCarthy rapping on stage, and it does not disappoint from there
Good dramas
Last Night (Massy Tadjedin, 2010): As if Take This Waltz somehow took place in the real world. It reminded me of when Carrie Fisher wrote -- “That’s the way it works in movies. Something happens that has an impact on someone’s life, and based on that impact, his life shifts course. Well, that’s not how it happens in life. Something has an impact on you, and then your life stays the same, and you think, ‘Well, what about the impact?’ You have epiphanies all the time. They just don’t have any effect.”
The Tale of Iya (Iya Monogatari: Oku no Hito, Tetsuichiro Tsuta, 2013): I liked the magical realism more than anything else, really, but it was pretty watchable, and of course Rina Takeda is amazing
Floating! (Das Floß!, Julia C. Kaiser, 2015): A good, self-contained drama about two women having their bachelorette parties -- one with her guy friends, the other with her lady friends -- before they marry each other. Brings up difficult subjects including latent homophobia. I found it so refreshing for portraying women that felt real
Great documentary
E il cibo va (Food on the Go, Mercedes Cordova, 2017): Great documentary about the fate of Italian food in the Americas -- chiefly Argentina and the USA. Manages to deal with tradition, innovation, the story of immigration, race and racism, to offer balanced points of view and intelligent counter-points -- just fascinating
Flawless adaptations
We Have Always Lived in the Castle (Stacie Passon, 2018): I don’t know what to say about this except that Shirley Jackson’s novel is one of my favourite books and this just didn’t disappoint... I do wish it had been more gritty, but on the other hand I did enjoy this dark fairytale quality
The Quiet American (Phillip Noyce, 2002): I hate war films but I love Graham Greene, and here we are. This was fantastically made, and Michael Caine plays Fowler, so
Fantastic films
Elisa & Marcela (Elisa y Marcela, Isabel Coixet, 2019): A super cool, super moving story of lesbian love in 1900s Spain
Rafiki (Wanuri Kahiu, 2018): It’s one of those films you’re just so glad exists you can’t really find it in your heart to criticise it... so yeah it was super cool, and I’m glad it exists, not to mention that it allowed me to discover Muthoni Drummer Queen
Fast Color (Julia Hart, 2018): It’s also hard to find flaws in this science fiction film that features three generations of Black women with superpowers. I did find fault with the direction sometimes, and I though the worldbuilding was a bit sloppy or under-researched, which is why I didn’t put it in the category below -- I’d still recommend it to anyone who asked, though
Favourites of the month
American Mary (Jen and Sylvia Soska, 2012): I had been meaning to see this for literal years and it lived up to every expectation. Just goes to show how amazing and cathartic the rape and revenge sub-genre can be. Also the main actress is Ginger Snaps???
Marlina the Murderer in Four Acts (Marlina Si Pembunuh dalam Empat Babak, Mouly Surya, 2017): You’ve heard of Iranian vampire Western... now get ready for Indonesian rape and revenge Western. As I was saying, an amazing genre with great potentialities. This and American Mary are joining M.F.A. and Revenge in my personal favourites. Stick with this one in particular for a flawless soundtrack and breathtaking visuals
The Garden (Sommerhaüser, Sonja Maria Kröner, 2017): It’s hard to say why I liked this German film that happens entirely in a garden in the 1970s over the course of one summer so much. I suppose it’s the mixture of the anecdotal and the dramatic, together with that Ikea-like aesthetic, not ironic, not detached, yet somehow still like a catalogue. Also, being a huge fan of understatement generally, but also not very bright, I liked that this was just subtle enough for my small brain to still manage to grasp most of it
*
This was a good month for film-watching! I also binged the two seasons of The OA (very exciting) and the final season of The Americans. I’ve been thinking about the latter, on and off, since I finished it. The Americans is probably one of my favourite television series of all time, and I am still in awe of what it managed to achieve.
I’m trying not to default to film-watching every night of the week, and I’ve tried treating myself to new and exciting books instead... I do miss reading, and I do feel sometimes that film-watching can be an easy way out of reality (for me, personally, obviously not trying to knock down cinema as a whole...). But of course, both fields inform each other -- after all, this month I watched two adaptations of books I love, and I also bought Bird Box after I saw, and loved, the film...

Predictions for every NFL team from those who know their team best
Tumblr media
With no scrimmages or preseason, here is what to expect.
The hopes and dreams of 32 fanbases hang in the balance with the NFL season almost upon us. It’s been a bizarre lead up to the season due to the Covid-19 pandemic, meaning we have much less information than we normally would entering the season.
Normally we get at least some information from scrimmages and preseason by now. Instead we’re going off gut feelings and beliefs. We asked our network of team blogs (and a couple from your’s truly) to give us their predictions for their beloved teams in the hopes to learn more. Here’s what they think from the fans who know their teams the best.
Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals will live and die by their offense. The Cardinals did little to address their defense in the offseason, instead further stacking the offense by adding DeAndre Hopkins. Hopkins and Larry Fitzgerald are a quarterback’s dream, and Kyler Murray should have major success through the air this season. Unfortunately the defense still won’t be enough to have them compete in the NFC West ... yet.
— James Dator, SB Nation
Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons will be looking to put two straight years of mediocrity behind them and take a veteran team on a deep playoff run. With a ton of money committed to stars and short-term bets on players like Todd Gurley and Dante Fowler Jr., this team is built to contend right now and more or less has to keep the current brain trust around.
— Dave Choate, The Falcoholic
Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens will win the Super Bowl. With nearly all of their high-level talent returning and multiple big-name pass rushers being added to the defense, the Ravens will end the season hoisting the Lombardi trophy.
— Kyle Barber, Baltimore Beatdown
Buffalo Bills
The Bills will sink their teeth into the AFC East. The window is wide open for the Bills after years of being in New England’s shadow. While the Patriots move on from Tom Brady, and the rest of the division is, well, the Dolphins and Jets — there’s a major chance for the Bills to dominate and try to becoming the source of consistency in the division.
— James Dator, SB Nation
Carolina Panthers
The Panthers will try to rebuild the franchise into a consistent winner under new head coach Matt Rhule, something they haven’t been since... well, since the team was founded in 1995. They’re still searching for their first ever back-to-back winning seasons, and they currently have a long, rocky road ahead if they plan to accomplish that goal anytime soon.
— Bradley Smith, Cat Scratch Reader
Chicago Bears
The Bears will once again have one of the best defenses in the NFL, but as is Chicago tradition, they’ll only go as far as the quarterback can take them. If Mitchell Trubisky — or Nick Foles — can simply manage the offense, the Bears will be back in the playoffs.
— Lester A. Wiltfong Jr., Windy City Gridiron
Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals will bounce back faster than anyone expected. Joe Burrow is NFL ready from the jump, and the bones of this team are still good. Expect them to at least be competitive this season, and make people wonder why they were so bad a year ago.
— James Dator, SB Nation
Cleveland Browns
The Browns will have the best rushing attack in the NFL, but only when the passing game gets more efficient mid-way through the season will Cleveland start being the favorite to win every week as opposed to just a crapshoot. That will put them in the mix for a late-season wildcard chase in the AFC.
— Chris Pokorny, Dawgs By Nature
Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys will see if Jason Garrett was the issue with their talented roster falling short of expectations. Mike McCarthy takes over as head coach and he will try to elevate the Cowboys into a team that can win in the playoffs.
— Dave Halprin, Blogging The Boys
Denver Broncos
The Broncos will surprise a lot of people. That defense is going to be sneaky elite, so watch out!
— Tim Lynch, Mile High Report
Detroit Lions
The Lions will have a top five offense with a healthy Matthew Stafford and new weapons in the backfield. If the defense can improve even marginally, they will be in the NFC North race come December.
— Jeremy Reisman, Pride of Detriot
Green Bay Packers
The Packers will be an NFC contender again, and even if they don’t match their lofty 13-3 record from a year ago they could be a better team overall. The defense returns almost all of the key players, featuring a terrifying pass rush and a strong secondary, while Aaron Rodgers looks poised for a bit of a bounce-back in his second year in Matt LaFleur’s offense.
— Evan Western, Acme Packing Company
Houston Texans
The Texans will be unpredictable. Yes, that sounds weird for a prediction — but so much is up in the air. Houston went some big roster shifts this offseason, notably headlined by trading DeAndre Hopkins, but as long as DeShaun Watson is under center this team can still make noise and win the AFC South.
— James Dator, SB Nation
Indianapolis Colts
The Colts will reclaim the AFC South title with a potent rushing attack, dominant offensive line and veteran quarterback leadership. The young defense will start to put everything together as All Pros Darius Leonard and DeForest Buckner complement each other, second year cornerback Rock Ya-Sin takes a second-year leap, and Kenny Moore returns to the field healthy as one of the league’s best nickel corners.
— Brett Mock, Stampede Blue
Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars will try to avoid suffering their ninth losing season since 2011. With 16 rookies included on the roster going into the season opener, a question mark at quarterback in Gardner Minshew, and a defense that traded away key players like Calais Campbell and A.J. Bouye, it looks to be another year of heartbreak in Duval.
— Ryan Day, Big Cat Country
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs will become the first NFL team to repeat as Super Bowl champions since 2005. During the most uncertain of times, they returned nearly all of their starters from their championship team, highlighted by the game’s best quarterback in Patrick Mahomes.
— Pete Sweeney, Arrowhead Pride
Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders will be better on both offense and defense and will vie for an AFC playoff berth.
— Bill Williamson, Silver & Black Pride
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams will find the explosiveness on offense that they had in 2018 but lost last year and a surprise star player in the front-seven besides Aaron Donald, but who that is remains to be seen.
— Kenny Arthur, Turf Show Times
Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins will look to build upon a surprise five-win season in 2019 after being called the “worst team ever” by some analysts. Under Ryan Fitzpatrick, this year is the stage-setter for the Dolphins to return to being a long-term contender once Tua Tagovailoa takes over late in the year or in 2021.
— Kevin Nogle, The Phinsider
Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings will break their Bret Saberhagen-esque cycle of being very good in odd-numbered years and average in even-numbered years under Mike Zimmer. Despite their offseason losses, the Vikings still have a lot of talent, and the NFC North is there for the taking. The Vikings will do just that, nabbing their first division title since 2017.
— Christopher Gates, Daily Norseman
New England Patriots
The Patriots will continue to try to do their jobs. Are those jobs good enough to keep the dynasty alive, though? That’s the question...
— Bernd Buchmasser, Pats Pulpit
New Orleans Saints
The Saints will finally be able to add a second Super Bowl to the resume of Drew Brees. After getting agonizingly close the past few seasons, the Saints will finally take care of business in the playoffs to let Drew Brees ride off into the sunset of retirement as a champion.
— Christopher Dunnells, Canal Street Chronicles
New York Giants
The Giants will try to get turned around after going 12-36 over the past three seasons. The Giants are starting over with rookie head coach Joe Judge and second-year quarterback Daniel Jones.
— Ed Valentine, Big Blue View
New York Jets
The Jets will begin their latest rebuild. New general manager Joe Douglas made the first investments in the offseason by focusing on the offensive line. It is overdue, but the Jets have finally started to put pieces around Sam Darnold.
- John Butchko, Gang Green Nation
Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles will make the playoffs for the fourth straight season but fail to win more than one playoff game at most due to offensive line issues.
— Brandon Lee Gowton, Bleeding Green Nation
Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers will look to ride Ben Roethlisberger‘s surgically repaired elbow back to the postseason. With an elite defense and a two-time Super Bowl champion commanding the huddle, the Steelers have pushed all their chips in for the 2020 season.
— Jeff Hartman, Behind the Steel Curtain
San Diego Chargers
The Chargers will see if Philip Rivers was really in decline last season, or if it was his surrounding cast that couldn’t get the job done. However, injuries remain a nuisance as they’ve already lost their best player on defense for the year.
— Michael Peterson, Bolts from the Blue
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers will turn into an offensive juggernaut, but come up short in the Super Bowl for the second season in a row. After a season’s worth of offensive highlights, ironically enough, it’s the defense that lets the team down in the big game.
— Kyle Posey, Niners Nation
Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks will make their first serious Super Bowl run since the 2014 season. With an offense led by an MVP contender in Russell Wilson, as well as a defense with as talented a linebacker and secondary group as any in the NFL, Seattle is poised to win its first NFC West title since 2016, with the hope of greater things to come from there.
- Mookie Alexander, Field Gulls
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Buccaneers will be one of the most improved and most successful teams in the NFL thanks to a man they call Tom Brady. Can we say Super Bowl?
— Gil Arcia, Bucs Nation
Tennessee Titans
The Titans will find themselves playing in the final four again, but this year they will get over the hump and make the Super Bowl.
— Jimmy Morris, Music City Miracles
Washington Football Team
The Washington Football Team will struggle, but finally show some signs of life. Ron Rivera is a coach players love to give all their effort to, and that alone should make Washington at least watchable this season. It’s not much, but it’s progress.
— Scott Jennings, Hogs Haven

In this week's Combat Talk we see at heavyweights who simply could presumably maybe simply no longer let a contention die, and label how a fight between Mike Tyson and Tyson Fury could presumably maybe simply no longer be total fantasy. There is additionally an American middleweight going by means of some heat and data on how Floyd Mayweather's work as a coach is inflicting a rift in Las Vegas.
Deciding on fantasy fights between greats from any expertise has confirmed a favored ability to pass time for fans exact by means of the boxing shutdown, but presumably a one-off assembly between Tyson Fury and Mike Tyson in reality has legs.
Issues are getting pretty outlandish, usually are no longer they?
Fury, who was once named after 'Iron Mike', has spoken about strikes being made by Tyson and Evander Holyfield to return to the game in bouts that can elevate money for correct causes.
"I had a phone name announcing 'would you grasp to fight Mike Tyson in an exhibition fight?'" Fury told BT Sport.
"I acknowledged 'hell yeah', but I produce no longer contemplate something else's materialised out of it.
"I'd no longer strive and assassinate anyone's objectives of doing something else they need. If they're both medically match to fight then allow them to attain what they've purchased to attain."
Holyfield has been posting the form of motivational practicing videos that belong in a Rocky film and worn world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko has even turned out.
So if Klitschko says age is solely a quantity for 57-three hundred and sixty five days-venerable Holyfield, then Tyson's return to the ring could presumably maybe simply quiet be a cakewalk given he is finest 53.
"If he's reduction in the ring, I'd grasp to see it," unified world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua told British GQ. "I'd undoubtedly be one in every of the viewers, that is no longer reasonable to claim."
Others, in conjunction with British fighter Shannon Courtenay, are no longer so eager.
If nothing else, Tyson's work has sparked an admirable physique transformation. These Joe Wicks exercises are clearly beginning to label.
'Del Boy' answers Russian name
As Britain turned its consideration in direction of Monday's narrate from Dominic Cummings - the dear adviser to High Minister Boris Johnson who drove 250 miles or so that you just should maybe self-isolate - one promoter felt those screening the tournament can also appreciate made some money.
One of many first pay-per-peep exhibits the nation could presumably maybe sight when boxing does resume is on the full Dillian Whyte's heavyweight bout with Russia's Alexander Povetkin.
In unpatriotic but odd boxing vogue, Whyte's rival Dereck Chisora could presumably maybe no longer withstand the probability to enviornment against the man who has overwhelmed him twice in contemporary years.
"I've already acknowledged to Povetkin that, if he needs me, I may reach and back him. I may cruise to Russia," Chisora told Sky Sports actions.
"He acknowledged that he'd win me a non-public jet to reach reduction. Povetkin is my boy."
Sparring, bullying and name calling
Whereas British boxers wait to be allowed to spar all all over again, about a appreciate turned on unbeaten American middleweight Austin 'Ammo' Williams.
The 24-three hundred and sixty five days-venerable posted footage of him hammering a sparring partner, prompting an excited reaction from Britain's Billy Joe Saunders.
"That unhappy man clearly cannot abet his fingers up successfully. After I'm in US I may transfer you round and we can sight what occurs then," Saunders wrote on Twitter.
In the foundation, Williams replied by bringing up he could presumably maybe sight why the footage will be "frowned upon".
However the Texas-basically based fighter mercurial hit reduction at Saunders after which shared conceal shots of conversations with British gentle-middleweight Anthony Fowler which consist of him calling the Liverpudlian a "washed up bum". That was once one in every of the extra tame references by the ability.
Floyd causes rift with the pads
A small bit less controversial gym work has viewed Floyd Mayweather plan praise for the functional pad drills he has been doing with 21-three hundred and sixty five days-venerable world lightweight champion Devin Haney.
Now no longer all and sundry was once in terror of the programs even though. Gervonta Davis - who additionally holds a portion of a world lightweight title and who Mayweather has helped recordsdata in the past - has it sounds as if scrapped his Vegas camp as a outcomes of the Floyd-Haney union.
So that you just'd also't please all and sundry. We would repeat Floyd he "cannot fetch them all" but at 50-0, he could presumably maybe simply disagree.
Fury earns unanimous birthday fetch
Tommy Fury pulled out the stops for the 21st birthday of partner Molly-Mae Hague.
The British gentle-heavyweight no longer finest offered a pet for his fellow Worship Island superstar but by hook or by crook managed to win the younger pup to jot down a label.
"Mummy, I cannot wait to meet you in about a days, except then appreciate the correct birthday and I'm positive daddy will be spoiling you noxious," the label learn.
That is one talented dog.
A stinker with no fans anyone?
And at closing in boxing's world of brash talk, Billy Joe Saunders offered a marginally of humility in his stride of a shot at Mexican belt collector and darling of Las Vegas Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.
Hardly ever ever has a fighter used his incapacity to beget a venue as a skill plus point. The joke was once form of misplaced on Saunders' British rival Chris Eubank Jr even though.
"He doesn't deserve the fight and if he gets the fight he is going to lose," Eubank Jr told IFL TV. "Saunders will plod in there to outlive, dance exact by means of the ring and stink the world out. No-one needs to see that."
Given now we appreciate waited since March for some UK boxing and appreciate resorted to an obsession with the return of heavyweights in their fifties a stinker of a bout could presumably maybe well attain pretty successfully.

India - Delhi - National Rail Museum - Jaipur State Railway "643 TJ" - 1d
flickr
India - Delhi - National Rail Museum - Jaipur State Railway - 1d by Manfred Sommer Via Flickr: The National Rail Museum is a museum in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi which focuses on the rail heritage of India it opened on the 1 February 1977. - Electric locomotive Sir Roger Lumley: This WCP-1 engine has wheel arrangements which are not seen these days. off the rack #1186
Monday, October 23, 2017
The back door lock on my X-Trail wasn't working so I had to drop it off this morning at Japan Auto to see if they can fix it. Then it was off to Costco to stock up an a few necessities. It's so nice and warm here in Ottawa that I will be able to read Charles de Lint's new book The Wind in His Heart outside.
Deadpool vs. Old Man Logan #1 - Declan Shalvey (writer) Mike Henderson (art) Lee Loughridge (colours) VC's Joe Sabino (letters). This 5-issue mini has the two stabby heroes with healing factors teaming up to keep a new mutant from being captured by bad guys. Sure, it's a story that's already been told many times but Declan does a good job of keeping the fun factor up so I will keep reading.
Batman: The Drowned #1 - Dan Abnett (writer) Philip Tan & Tyler Kirkman (art) Dean White & Arif Prianto (colours) Tom Napolitano (letters). There's a gender swap in this Dark Nights Metal tie-in where a woman named Bryce Wayne transforms herself into an evil version of Aquaman's wife Mera. That was unexpected. I like how this issue clarifies why the bad Batpersons are doing what they're doing. It's a basic motivation and not anything new so there's still a chance that I might stop caring about this story and stop reading.
Kid Lobotomy #1 - Peter Milligan (writer) Tess Fowler (art) Lee Loughridge (colours) Aditya Bidikar (letters). If I had looked at the credits before picking this book off the racks to read I should have expected the extreme weirdness in this comic book written by Peter Milligan. I remember his stint on Shade the Changing Man and what a psychedelic ride that was. This book is loopy too and it was the art that helped me power through to the last page. If you enjoy exploring odd mindscapes you'll like this.
Thor #700 - Jason Aaron (writer) Walt Simonson & Matthew Wilson, Russell Dauterman & Matthew Wilson, Daniel Acuna, James Harren & Dave Stewart, Becky Cloonan & Dave Stewart, Das Pastoras, Chris Burnham & Ive Svorcina, Andrew MacLean & Dave Stewart, Jill Thompson, Mike del Mundo, and Olivier Coipel & Dave Stewart (art) VC's Joe Sabino (letters). This 50-page epic features Part 1 of "The Death of Thor", but which Thor? There's a lot of them. If you've never read a Thor comic book this is a great place to start. You can tell that Jason Aaron is having so much fun writing these adventures and I am one very appreciative fan. Buy this book.
Aquaman #29 - Dan Abnett (writer) Stjepan Sejic (art & colours) Steve Wands (letters). Okay, things are starting to go the good guys' way. Evil King Rath is going to get what fer.
Maestros #1 - Steve Skroce (writer & art) Dave Stewart (colours) Fonografiks (letters). Yay, Steve Skroce is back on the racks and this time he's writing his own book. I loved "We Stand On Guard" and was hoping we'd see Steve's art again soon. This fantasy book is about a young wizard who inherits the title of big kahuna wizard after his Dad is killed. I thought that Geof Darrow did the art for this after turning the first page, but nope, it's Steve just painstakingly drawing up a storm. This new comic book gets added to my "must read" list.
Champions #13 - Mark Waid (writer) Humberto Ramos (pencils) Victor Olazaba (inks) Edgar Delgado (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). Part 2 of "Worlds Collide" has the Champions teaming up with the Avengers to stop the High Evolutionary from destroying the planet. Four groups scatter around the world to save lives but even though they keep the world's tallest buildings from disaster there's still plenty of danger ahead. The story continues in Avengers #673 which hits the racks on November 1.
Batman #33 - Tom King (writer) Joelle Jones (art) Jordie Bellaire (colours) Clayton Cowles (letters). You gotta read this. Do you guys have a good chuckle when you get to the last page of a really good comic book because you feel happily amused and think, man I can't wait to read the rest of this story? I do. Few writers can make me do that and Tom King just got added to the list of writers that do. Some fans might not like what's going on with Batman's love life but I think it's great. Part 1 of "Rules of Engagement" has the Bat visiting an old flame and boy, is he going to get burned. Joelle "Lady Killer" Jones did a wonderful job showing the men folk back at the mansion and made my heart swoon with her rendition of Selina. I wish the word balloon person hadn't screwed up on the last page, otherwise this issue was a perfect read.
Sherlock Frankenstein and the Legion of Evil #1 - Jeff Lemire (writer) David Rubin (art, colours & letters). This spin-ff of Black Hammer is worth checking out if you like that mystery about a team of old super heroes. This story focuses on their super villain enemies and follows Black Hammer's daughter as she goes searching for her father. Jeff Lemire is every bit as clever as Alan Moore at creating neat super characters when Alan was doing America's Best Comics.
Ms. Marvel #23 - G. Willow Wilson (writer) Diego Olortegui (art) Ian Herring (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). Remember the time when Kamala went to Karachi and had a team up with a hero there? Guess who's in Jersey City and attending her high school now? I'm glad Willow did the conversion to metric on the runaway train's speed. I didn't have a sense of what 25 miles per hour feels like. 40 kilometres per hour I get. This was a great way to have the two heroes commiserate while the train rolls along.
Wonder Woman #32 - James Robinson (writer) Sergio Davila (pencils) Scott Hanna & Mark Morales (inks) Romulo Fajardo Jr. (colours) Saida Temofonte (letters). I found the writing in this issue was as stilted as a bad soap opera script. I don't like how the relationship between Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor is portrayed. I hate that he calls her "angel". I will read the next issue to find out more about Diana's "brother" Jason and to see Emanuela Lupacchino drawing her first issue of this series.
Groo: Play of the Gods #4 - Sergio Aragones & Mark Evanier (writers) Sergio Aragones (art) John Ercek & Tom Luth (colours) Stan Sakai (letters). And so another great Groo mini ends. This time the last laugh was on the gods.
Superman #33 - Peter J. Tomasi & Patrick Gleason (writer) Doug Mahnke (pencils) Jaime Mendoza (inks) Wil Quintana (colours) Rob Leigh (letters). "Imperius Lex" starts here. With baby Darkseid missing, Apokalips needs a new ruler and it has chosen Lex Luthor. But Lex is a good guy now, right? Maybe he'll find a way to change the Parademons into minions. I like that Lois and Jon are in this story too.
Incredible Hulk #709 - Greg Pak (writer) Greg Land (pencils) Jay Leisten (inks) Frank D'Armata (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). "Return To Planet Hulk" starts here. Not to worry, they haven't resurrected Bruce Banner (yet). This time it's Amadeus "The Totally Awesome Hulk" Cho crash landing on the planet. There's no holding back when the kid unleashes the junk in the trunk as he battles a tribe of bad guys. All hail the Green Scar. This is a refreshing change of pace.
Super Sons #9 - Peter J. Tomasi (writer) Jorge Jimenez & Carmine Di Giandomenico (art) Alejandro Sanchez & Ivan Plascencia (colours) Rob Leigh (letters). "Planet of the Capes" ends here. I much preferred the art of Jorge Jimenez over that of Carmine Di Giandomenico. Carmine's kids don't look like kids.
Wonder Woman Conan #2 - Gail Simone (writer) Aaron Lopresti (pencils) Matt Ryan (inks) Wendy Broome (colours) Saida Temofonte (letters). There's a #MeToo moment in this issue that I found was unnecessary that made me feel disappointed because this is written by a woman. The crew threatening Diana that way wasn't needed for Conan to be any more protective than he already was. I wondered if it was put in just to titillate male readers or to point out that most men are scum. I did like how the crow girls dealt with the wine besotted pervert in the stands though.
Invincible Iron Man #593 - Brian Michael Bendis (writer) Stefano Caselli & Alex Maleev (art) Marte Gracia &  Alex Maleev (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). "The Search for Tony Stark" starts here. Get everything you need to know to start reading this series. It's the rebirth of one of Marvel's iconic super heroes so join us long time shellhead fans and buckle up for a wild ride.
