The office was quiet, save for the hum of the lights and the distant tapping of keyboards. Deku sat on the edge of his desk, still nursing a scratch on his cheek, while Bakugou leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, eyes on the ceiling.

“I think I’m gonna propose,” Bakugou said, casual as anything.

Deku choked on his energy drink. “To who??”

Bakugou blinked at him. “To my girlfriend?”

“You have a girlfriend??”

“...Yeah?” Bakugou frowned. “You’ve met her, haven’t you?”

“NO??”

Bakugou tilted his head like this was somehow his fault. “Huh. Thought you did.”

“You never mentioned her before! When did this happen??”

Bakugou shrugged. “Middle school.”

Deku went still. “What?”

“We’ve been dating since middle school,” Bakugou said, offhand. “Told her I liked her after I blew up some kid who called her useless. She said she already knew.”

Deku’s soul briefly left his body.

Bakugou kept talking like this was all very normal. “She used to help me with my homework. Smart as hell. Always carried extra snacks in her bag. Hated when I picked fights, but let me get away with it anyway. She’s—” he cut himself off, ears going slightly red. “Whatever. She’s awesome.”

Deku’s eye twitched. “Kacchan.”

“What?”

“She’s quirkless.”

“...Yeah?”

“YOU’VE BEEN DATING A QUIRKLESS GIRL SINCE MIDDLE SCHOOL—WHILE BULLYING ME FOR BEING QUIRKLESS—??”

Bakugou winced. “Okay, first of all—”

“NO.” Deku stood up like his brain had snapped in half. “You used to shove my notebooks in the dirt for existing and then go hold hands with your little quirkless girlfriend?? What kind of—what double standard—”

“I didn’t shove your notebooks for being quirkless! I shoved them because you were annoying as shit!”

“YOU CALLED ME A USELESS DEKU—WHILE YOU WERE IN LOVE WITH A QUIRKLESS GIRL—”

“Don’t call her that,” Bakugou snapped, sharp. “She’s not useless.”

Deku froze. “I wasn’t—!”

Bakugou sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “I know. Just don’t like that word near her.”

Deku stared, mouth opening and closing like a dying fish. “You... you were defending her back then, too?”

Bakugou looked away. “I didn’t get it. Not all the way. But she never made me feel like I was better. Or worse. She just… treated me like I was worth something, without having to prove it.”

Silence fell.

Deku sat back down, slowly, brain still rebooting.

After a long beat, he said, “You’re telling me you’ve been in a long-term, secret, emotionally fulfilling relationship for ten years—with a quirkless civilian—and you never thought to mention it once??”

Bakugou scoffed. “It’s not a secret, you nerd. I just don’t go around broadcasting my business like it’s a damn podcast.”

Deku stared into the void.

Bakugou shrugged. “You wanna meet her?”

izuku's anxious sitting at his desk with you right beside him almost breaking the pencil in half and it was a mechanical pencil. he was holding back because he didn't want to frighten you but he just couldn't sit here while you're looking so cute.

he wanted to say he loved how cute you looked so bad but he was worried that maybe it'd make you uncomfortable since you weren't saying i love you to him yet.

that had been getting to him a lot lately and he didn't know how to handle it without talking to you. he knew how you were and didn't want to make it worse. see izuku himself was a fairly shy person, well not so much as he was in middle school but he understood you and your feelings but not enough for it to not bother him!

"ohhh! i get it now!" you exclaimed leaning back in your chair. your sudden loud speech snapped izuku out of his thoughts and he smiled at you sweetly with a hum escaping him.

you gave him a grin "thanks izu! i love you, i don't know what i'd do without you." you spoke without thinking and immediately closed your eyes out of embarrassment at what he'd say in response. you didn't think about what you were saying, you just said the first thing that came to mind...when you heard a loud bang, you opened your eyes and looked at your boyfriend with wide eyes.

izu's face was planted on the desk and he was letting out a hum that didn't seem positive or anything; more like he was a kettle on the stove. "oh uhm...are you okay?" you hesitantly asked going to reach for him but he snapped up before you could touch him. izuku's face was bright red and it looked like he was burning up "i love you too!" he shouted with a smile on his face clearly happy that you finally said that. you were a bit weirded out but at least he was happy.

KATSUKI BAKUGOU

oh please don't even get me started on katsuki...

like izu, he was really upset about you not saying you love him especially when he said it to you first and you didn't say it back

but unlike izuku, he could give less than a fuck about not wanting to talk to you about it

the only thing that stopped him from doing that was that denki told him that he'd probably hurt your feelings like that and that was the last thing he wanted to do so for once, he shut up

but his aggression was fairly obvious because every time he said he loved you with that frown on his face, it'd get deeper when you didn't say it back and just smiled at him

katsuki felt like he'd actually blow up a building if you took longer to say it.

"what the hell are you doing up there!?" katsuki shouted from down below in the training area while you stood on one of the buildings looking for denki who was supposed to be your other partner.

you looked down at the masked boy very cautiously i might add and just nervously gave him an 'uh' showing you didn't know. katsuki grunted in frustration as he looked around to see if there was any one from the other team around to make sure that you guys didn't lose. he was already beginning to sweat just from pure anger.

when the class was splitting up to go to the locker rooms for costume changes, katsuki had told you he loved you and that he'd see you on the grounds but...you didn't say it back. you just laughed a bit showing that you were growing embarrassed and gave him a very small peck on his cheek.

see katsuki did appreciate that but he wanted an 'i love you' back not a kiss especially not a little baby kiss to the cheek that one of his cousins would give him but again, he stayed silent and just grumbled under his breath in the lockerroom. he was already pissed off from that but now denki was nowhere to be found? that dumb fucker was probably lost.

little did the both of you know, he was behind you planning on surprising you which was not the best idea considering you were almost dangling over the edge of a building right now. "boo!" denki shouted in your ear making you jump and lose your footing. you slipped and fell off the edge of the building with a yelp drawing your boyfriend's attention.

he was quick to blast up into the air and catch you in his arms before you even slightly neared the ground "oh my god! i love you so much 'suki!" you said in desperation as you wrapped your arms around him and clutched onto him in fear that you'd fall. katsuki would never drop you but he almost did when he heard you finally say it back to him.

"ha! i thought you'd never say it!" katsuki shouted with a grin on his face as he landed on the ground, your face still stuffed in his shoulder. you hadn't even realized what you said until he just pointed it out "oh..." you muttered feeling embarrassment creep up on you as your boyfriend put you on the ground. you put your palms to your face to cover you hot face but the blonde grabbed your hands and forcefully pulled them away from your face "stop that shit! if you think i don't love you back, i do." katsuki said muttering the last part a little lower because denki was shouting apologies from the top of the building and could probably hear a few things.

katsuki had a bit to learn about embarrassment when saying that kind of stuff too.

SHOTO TODOROKI

he'll actually just sit there silent probably dying inside

shoto has had his fair share of not getting told i love you or getting a sort of warped kind of love so you not saying i love you isn't something relatively new to him

but he still hates it.

he can't even begin to explain the ache in his chest when ou don't say it back to him, not like he'd ever explain it to anyone

unlike both of the other boys, he's extremely patient and no matter how he feels, he won't throw small tantrums over you not saying it and will just wait

but as he waited, he got more needy for hearing those three words

"sho..." you whined dragging out the o in your boyfriend's name while you tried to get up from under the many blankets shoto had you bundled under. he had the whole work for you.

thermometer on the bedside desk and cold medicine right next to it while you continuously sneezed and coughed in bed. you had gotten sick recently and your darling two-toned-haired boyfriend had been there for every step! making you food, running your baths, just being a complete sweetheart.

shoto, by default, was a sweet boyfriend but he had been a little extra kind lately in hopes that you'd tell him that you loved him for all of his efforts of going out of his way for you. he didn't know what was going on in your brain but he clearly knew you well because that was what you were planning to do.

telling the boy that you loved him would be the perfect way to express your gratitude to him for all he's done throughout your sickness that was caused by your stupidity of going to the market in the cold night after getting out of the shower "coming, my love." shoto said waddling into the room with a bowl of steaming ramen on the small wooden table he had in his hands to make it easier for you to eat in bed. he was really playing the house husband role.

"here, the broth will make you feel better. i promise." the boy said setting the table on the bed just above your legs while kneeling to the ground, you smiled at the todoroki boy deciding that this was the perfect time to tell him that you loved him.

with a blow toward the scalding bowl, you uttered the words quietly "i love you sho." you grew shy after saying that not knowing how he'd respond and his silence ate you alive. you grabbed your chopsticks as you kept your head down to avoid eye contact "sorry, just ignore it–" "no." he interrupted your excuse almost making you knock the bowl over with now fast your body turned to look at him again.

sho's cheeks were flushed a light pink "i love you too. just didn't expect you to say that." he said chuckling lightly with a smile on his face. it might've been true that he wished for you to say it now but it still surprised him.

in a good way though... "can i have a kiss?" you asked smiling back at your boyfriend who still gave you a close-eyed grin, sho stood to his feet "no. you will get me sick." he replied in a monotone before beginning to walk away muttering how he was going to get you something to drink.

you whined loudly throwing your head back. "sho....!"

A grunt leaves your mouth when the incessant banging on your front door finally wakes you up, “I’m coming!” you yell, yet the banging doesn’t stop.

With a deep breath, you pull the covers away and get up. You give a peek towards the clock on your bedside table before sleepily running towards the annoying knocks. It’s fucking 5 a.m.… Who the hell could be this awake to make such a noise at this hour?

You pull open the door a bit forcefully, clearly annoyed.

Bakugou Katsuki stands there, a hoodie concealing his person and a black mask over half of his face that also helps the disguise. All big and bulky, almost the size of your door, looking delicious, as always. Fuck, you’re still in the slumber of sleep if you’re allowing this thoughts of him in your mind, in front of him.

He rips the mask down so he can say, well, bark in annoyance, “It’s fucking ridiculus!”

It’s a yell. At five in the morning.

He stomps inside your apartment like he owns it, and you snort a bit while closing the door, “Well, good and aggressive morning to you too, buddy.”

“No, you don’t fuckin’ get it…” He sounds desperate and annoyed beyond his own comprehension, pulling off the hood that’s over his head and walking from side to side in your small living room.

You frown, arms crossing over your chest, and keep silent. He doesn’t look at you as he walks back and forth, his hands opening and closing in fists at his sides.

“It’s fucking ridiculus! You are fucking ridiculus!”

You sigh, a hand sliding through your face. You’re still too sleepy for this right now. “How it’s my fault—”

“No, shut up! I’m fucking trying— It’s just annoying and ridiculus and, and… agh!,” the growl he lets out would have been considered drop-panties if it wasn’t for the annoyance you actually feel at the moment.

However, you decide to take another deep breath. It’s Bakugou Katsuki; this is not the first time you have witnessed a scene like this one, where he doesn’t know how to put into words what he’s feeling.

Being friends with this grumpy mountain for years already has taught you how to deal with him 90% of the time. The other 10%... well, that’s when Midoriya becomes your fairy godmother and saves the day. But even though you don’t know what's going on right now with Bakugou, you decide to wait a bit before calling Izuku-Godmother.

He keeps walking, fuming with stress and nerves. And you wait. That has always been Izuku’s advice. “Wait until he feels completely ready to say whatever he needs to say”.

There has been a moment in life —you honestly don’t know when that moment has been— in which Bakugou decided that you were worthy of trust, of him feeling completely okay in talking his mind out in your presence. Not that the bastard hasn't done that before, he has always been blunt and direct in his words since the very first day you met. But now, he also spoke about his feelings and troubles, and whatever went on his mind to you. He trusted you. He trusts you with his life, and you know that. Being partners in the same Pro Hero agency for years has given both of you that kind of relationship. One where you could also trust in him and tell him anything, and he’ll try and help you with whatever you need, after speaking his opinion out, even the bad ones.

Right now, you can’t quite sense whether whatever he needs to tell you is good or bad. So again, you simply wait.

As you watch him come and go like a lion trapped in a cage, he suddenly walks directly at you. You aren’t afraid of him; you have never been, and that wasn’t going to start today. You trust him with your life, too. However, his sudden moves do surprise you. So as he walks forward at you, you walk backwards until you feel the wall on your back. Bakugou stands centimeters from you, body surprisingly close to yours. The only times he has been this close to you willingly have been during training times and fights with villains. He has always kept his distance. Yet, now, there’s barely space between you. He invades even your breath. Your senses. His towering form envelops everything.

And when your eyes travel up, directly at his, you feel your knees almost give up and succumb at the intensity in those ruby orbs. You feel trapped in them, completely at his mercy. Whatever he might ask of you, you would have complied, said yes. However, you weren’t expecting what he said next.

“It’s fuckin’ ridiculous how much I feel for you.”

You pull up an eyebrow, a bit confused. He groans, shaking his head.

“You are in my fuckin’ head all the time. I can’t— Fuck! I can’t go to sleep without knowing you’re home and okay. I can’t even fuckin’ start my day without knowing you have already had your stupid breakfast!” Now, your eyebrows are pulled up in surprise, but you stay quiet and listen to him. “I can’t concentrate on my missions if I know you’re somewhere else on yours, because I need… Damn it! I need you by my side. Need to know you’re safe.” 

He takes a moment to breathe in deeply, before saying, “It’s fuckin’ ridiculous how much I need you.”

“Katsuki—”

He growls, exhaling the breath he just took in, as if he has just been punched in the guts, legs giving in a bit, and forehead pressing against yours as his eyes close. “No. Don’t say my name like that… I’m— I feel… ridiculously weak.”

His left forearm rests over the wall as his body presses closer, if that’s even possible. But it is. His breath collides against your face and mixes with your own. His smell surrounds all your senses, invading your head quite profoundly. And you can’t think of anything else that isn’t him.

How many times have you dreamt about this moment? How many fantasies in your head had him as the protagonist? You have definitely lost count already.

You still can’t believe that this is happening. That Bakugou Katsuki is actually confessing to you like this. Never in a million years could you have expected that this day would come.

That’s why the first thing you do after another moment of silence filled with loud breathing is touch him. You need to feel that this is real, that he is actually there and not a product of your imagination. Both your hands softly grab Katsuki’s face, fingers caressing the smooth, freshly shaved skin of his cheeks. Your left thumb finds his scar, and you trace its path delicately, caringly, lovingly. Yes, he is here. He is real. This is happening.

His breath trembles, just as his other hand travels to the back of your head to hold you. And it’s like that, how you have your first kiss with your long-time friend.

It’s not heated or passionate. Quite the contrary. It’s a feather-light touch of lips that made you feel warm and safe.

He pulls back just a bit to look at you, and the fire his eyes hold melts you completely. Because even though it is the first time your lips are meeting, you both immediately know that it won't be the last.

izuku was a nice guy. maybe a bit too nice-- it always confused you. because all through high school he was the sweetest thing-- blushing, stuttering, a little ditzy sometimes and a new level of awkward that you weren't sure was even possible-- but the guy currently tossing pebbles at your window? how is he the same guy that literally almost passed out when you bumped into his shoulder in the 9th grade? this had been happening for weeks. the curly haired boy would show up at the home you rented with another friend of yours and toss little pebbles from the garden in front of your house against your window. and when you finally did open the window, the conversation would dry out a little too quickly for his liking, and you'd dismiss him in that fake sweet tone of yours. izuku doesn't know why he's chasing after you. he knows you were never interested in him more than a silly little high school crush. you both were well in your twenties by now, him with an office job and you with your teaching job. you two reached out a year or so after graduation and caught up, making izuku realize that he had shoved some intense feelings to the back of his psyche, and you were doing great with your newly rewarded promotion at your job. why was he still clinging to this one sided pining? it should've shifted to the next stage by now-- he should atleast dislike you, hate you even. even if you never get to hear the confession he's been rehearsing since that first lunch together months ago, even if you continue to deny him a chance of even hearing him out-- he should hate you. a lot. and yet he doesn't. because at his heart, izuku was a nice guy. too nice.

one thing you learned about katsuki was that he was an honest drunk. a brash and shameless honest drunk, but still honest. you don't always go out for drinks with him and the crew-- you don't care too much for the bar scene and you can never keep up with the boys (denki and kirishima always peer pressure you) but sometimes you tag along and you manage to have a good time. tonight, the number of people still awake has dwindled down drastically. sero was slumped forward against the table, denki was asleep leaning with his back against the wall with kirishima also asleep on his shoulder. only you and katsuki were awake. awake is put loosely, since the blonde keeps blinking slowly at you, rocking just the slightest bit where he sits and leaning into his arm propped up on the table. you've mirrored his position, only half as drunk as he was-- your eyes are lazily tracing the scars along his face and exposed skin of his arms. you don't even know what you two were talking about. at this point, you were sure you were mumbling nonsense, but it didn't matter. katsuki watched you like you were the most interesting thing in existence, drunken starry eyes idly tracked your every move. his cheeks were a nice rosy color-- either from the alcohol or how you were very obviously and shamelessly checking him out right in front of him. "'m gonna go home soon," you slur your words, your free hand traces the circle of condensation that your glass leaves when you move it. katsuki watches your finger for just a moment too long before his eyes snap up to yours. "don't," he mumbles, but you hear him just fine. like your ears have a specific tuning for his particular timbre. you lean in the slightest bit and pretend to not hear how katsuki's breath hitches. "have patrol tomorrow," you manage to get out while you hold his gaze. drunk katsuki also pouts. "don't leave me," if you were sober, you would've been shocked at how sincere and tender his voice sounded. "please?" you rarely ever hear him use that word. "'suki-" the alcohol doesn't allow you to say his full name, but he latches onto the portion that he hears and scoots the slightest bit closer towards you. in this intimate distance, you can see the glaze in his eyes, a carnelian warmth the spreads to your cheeks and down your spine. for once in your life you can see the vulnerablility clear in his eyes. katsuki is not a desperate guy, atleast when he's sober. you can hear the clear want in his voice when he speaks again, inching closer to close the distance, his nose bumping gently into yours. "don't make me go home alone." katsuki is a very honest drunk.

"wish we could've spent my last night alive alone," touya mutters as he leans back onto open palms, the concrete a numb chill against his skin. his eyes are focused forward, and so are yours. you don't pay any mind to the security guard who is standing just a little ways off to the side, gun drawn but ready to aim at the man next to you at a moments notice. you know there's no need for the weapon, but to them-- the commission, the public; the whole country-- they need it. they are the ones who don't trust him. you only hum in response, curling more into the warmth of his side and continue to watch the sky as it changed colors. you've given yourself to touya years ago. complete devotion, unwavering love-- support while he recovered after the war and help during his time in rehab. you've given him so much, only for it all to be ripped apart and scrubbed clean with a single piece of paper. if he were the protagonist of this story, he would've gotten a happy ending. he would've been able to complete his time in rehab and come out a different man, one who was willing to love his family and be able to live a normal life with the love he claimed for himself. but touya todoroki was not the protagonist. he was the villain, a villain who caused immeasurable damage and caused chaos and pain-- and villains always get bad endings. you had hoped that touya's good behavior would've been rewarded. every time you were granted visitation time he promised you he would give you the life he always wanted to give you-- he would give you that and more. he hadn't always been the best at giving, but rehab was making it possible for him. touya's good behavior was rewarded with an execution date. a measly two simple lines for any last requests-- (it was the only time he was sent to solitary, he bitched up a storm about making sure he got what he wrote on that paper) and a list with boxes for him to check which meal he would like to have before he died. and he gave you what he had always wanted to give you in one day. all of him, his soul, mind-- he couldn't give you his body since that would be taken by his family to be buried unfortunately, but they would never get his last thoughts or memories from him. those were yours. those were always you. you gave yourself to touya years ago. in return, he gave you his last day alive.

late. again. to be fair, keigo don't do it on purpose. he's a busy man, things slip from his mind. and yes, it's shitty that he forgets about certain things when it pertains to you-- but you knew what you were signing up for when the two of you started dating. you knew what was going to happen when he rose through the rankings and gained the number three spot so early, and then got to number two all of a sudden. you knew that. there's a harsh mix of emotions swirling in your gut. the straw in your drink has been chewed to the point where you could no longer drink out of it. the leather material you've been sitting on for the past forty-five minutes has grown uncomfortably warm. keigo, no-- hawks-- had gotten too cozy with telling you little white lies. you know him too well to see right through the mask he puts on to 'protect' you, the act-- as you would call it-- and you were wondering what was going to be your last straw. sitting here, by yourself at the cafe you met him at-- waiting for him. it was supposed to be a lunch date, he promised you he'd make it there even though you knew it was a lie. you knew it was a lie and you're still sitting in the same spot, and still waiting. you've already wasted enough time waiting for him, why not just a couple more pathetic minutes wiping away tears? why not waste just a few more moments wishing you would've grown up before meeting him? because if you had, you would not have made such a good home for yourself at rock bottom.

when tomura spaces out, everyone just doesn't mention it. especially as of late, he's been zoning out and barely there-- at the league's bar more often than not with a glass of whiskey that he does not take a drink out of. he leaves it out on the bar most of the time and doesn't clean it-- kurogiri cleans up after him. like always. it's been rough since you left. the group struggled heavily; even if some didn't want to admit it. it's been taking twice longer than normal to perk up in the mornings when it was usually you who got him up with the coffee he likes, toga is more quiet than usual, and dabi doesn't buy cigarettes as often as he used to due to not having to share them with you. re-destro hasn't been reaching out as often. it's not like tomura minds it-- he's been wanting the space. and most meetings have been going the same; tomura shows up, usually with another member of the league-- and leaves with no progress on either end. it's not until tomura shows up with compress one day that re-destro snaps. going off about how something needed to change, something needed to happen-- he was fed up with how slow tomura had been acting the past few months. tomura and compress listened silently, almost like children getting scolded for having their hand in the cookie jar until your name is brought up. compress felt like he was watching in slow motion as tomura tensed, rising to his feet with a finger pointed scathingly towards the ginger. tomura's eyes flashed something dangerous-- something deadly. he looked like he was about five seconds from jumping the table and grabbing re-destro by the throat. compress reached a hand out to the fabric of tomura's pants-- but tomura was seething. "keep their name out of your mouth." tomura jerked away from compress' touch. he took the first few short steps before pausing again, his eyes still keenly trained on the man in front of him. "don't ever," his voice was practically spitting venom, "talk about them again. your mouth is nowhere near worthy enough to speak it." tomura's eyes were wild-- bright and on alert. like a feral animal being caged against it's will, choosing to fight instead of flee. this time, he was choosing to fight. whenever it came to you, he always backed down. ran from the situation that was bluntly put in front of him. denied it through and through until he couldn't lift his head from lack of sleep or drinking too much. the entire time he blamed you. the black hole of the group. sucking all the motivation and spirit the second you left. no, you were just a planet stuck in orbit; finally breaking free. tomura was the black hole.

He’ll definitely be the one to dump you, you’re in an argument and it’s getting heated of course he’ll never lay hands on you, but you’re both having a yelling match, and he’s not in the losing mood. He’s not even listening to what you said he’s just responding with “Shut the fuck up” “you always do this” and finally he snaps and pulls out the “I don’t even know why I’m with you anymore.” Card and obviously that hurts you, he knows it did. He knows that’ll shut you up so he feels like he won, obviously he has to always be the best right? Wrong. Because after realizing that you guys broke up he felt something jab him mentally, he felt differently, he felt like he lost. And that’s one of the worst feelings Bakugou had, he knew he won the match but frankly he lost the war. He thought he won that night with you, but this is the hardest loss he’s ever took

Will you get back together???

Yes. Now although it was hard you and Bakugou ended up talking things out and suggested therapy and with a lot of convincing he agreed, and that helped you guys relationship a lot as instead of him blurting shit out he just stepped out and when he was cooled down he’d talk it out with you.

Deku:

you dump him, he keeps putting himself into dangerous situations and getting himself hurt and it’s saddening to see the boy you love endanger himself. You know he wants to be a hero, you just couldn’t stand by and watch, and it’s not like you could help, you’re quirkless. Deku told you, you can be a hero countless times but you know he’s bluffing he didn’t stand a chance before All Might. “Izuku, I can’t just stand by and watch you hurt yourself!!” You said, and he just looked at you, “(name) what’re you talking about…?” He asked and you sighed “I can’t stand by and watch you injure yourself!! I just can’t! Either you drop the heroism or I’m leaving izuku.” You said, hoping he’ll choose you, “(Name) please… you know this is my dream to be a hero.. I’m living my dream! Saving lives with a smile!!” He said and you scoffed “Saving everyone but who’s saving you!! I can’t-! I can’t watch this. We’re done.” You said and you watched him tear up a bit.. After that night Izuku started to care less and less about himself taking more hours to distract himself. He was attached to you, and 2 years later he still wonders what would’ve happened if he chose you…

Will you get back together??

Yes, it took him to lose his quirk for you to eventually come back, sadly enough he went back to you. He needed comfort he needed YOUR comfort and that he received, just like before. One lose one gain

He cheats on you, you’re at a party one night and well you go home early something about that party made you feel odd, he was acting dry with you like he didn’t even know you, at times. You felt uncomfortable, people were looking at you funny and your bird brain of a boyfriend left you all by yourself, where was he going again? No clue. So you just left, he didn’t realize you were even gone… sat up all night waiting for him to drunkenly walk in that door, but it didn’t happen. You even had everything to take care of him at arms reach, Advil, water, etc. yet he didn’t come home, so you fell asleep on the couch. Hoping to see him when you arise, he wasn’t there. You open insta and figure out why he wasn’t home, he was with someone else. And that hurt. Bad. You dumped him over text and grabbed important stuff and left the house, once he came home and saw the text he was confused at first, until he looked in the mirror and saw hickeys on his neck, not from you?? in a way he dumps you?? Well you see being a underground hero and a teacher is hard now being a boyfriend is also hard, you see one of the issues he had is he had to work a lot of overtime and you were just a headache at times for him, you always assumed he was lying about overtime due to cheating situations u had in the past (hawks) but trust and believe he can barely handle you why would he want another person nagging him. He cancelled a lot of date nights when he was free because he just wants to rest when he’s not working, he does a lot.

You weren’t happy by this outcome so just like Deku you wanted him to stop, but also like deku he was not planning too. And you kept nagging and pushing and he finally broke up with you, said you needed better, said he wasn’t providing enough which was true but you loved him… but he didn’t love you. LOLL

• Okay so. I need to fangirl and mention that I LOVE the fact that Katsuki is a versatile fucking mf. Like you can interpret him romantic or aromantic, loud or quiet, cocky or shy, and he fits all of those hcs. We love a multifaceted king in this house.

• Getting into the real thing, Katsuki SCREAMS "uninterested in romantic relationships" to me. Like, he's way too obsessed with becoming the no.1 and competing with Izuku to even think about having a serious relationship, romantic or otherwise.

• I can't decide on how reader and Katsuki met, but it feels like a 'strangers to qpp' or 'childhood friends to qpp' situation. Either ways I think the first step was always catching his eye.

First meet

• Lmao okay I always imagine reader not being from UA. Maybe an artistic reader who's pursuing Designing or Philosophy (haha mad self insert here). They have their creative hobbies, maybe a painting class or ceramics making.

• This is during the beginning of Katsuki's Pro Hero years. Let's say 25-ish. He's had some time to explore his feelings and has come to the conclusion that they're complicated. He likes the idea of being in a relationship but doesn't really want to, ykwim?

• Like sure having a romantic partner sounds pretty cool and he'd love to have someone like that but the whole thought of meeting someone and having to date gives him the ick. He'd much rather stay at home and make himself a 5-star michelin-level spicy dish. Plus he has friends who love to badger him a bit too much so he's never lonely.

• So him being active in the dating pool seems unlikely. He's just... there. Just doing his own thing. Like a "if The One walks into my life I'll pursue them but I'm not putting any efforts to find them."

• I imagine him and reader meeting during a ceramics class. Shouto forced him and Izuku to try it out for once. He could only say no so many times.

• Barely gives your face one glance before forgetting about it. Focuses on making the perfect mug. Gets mad when he can barely shape it well.

• You probably notice him first. Like everyone else in the room, you recognise the three Pros but decide to give them their space. They deserve to feel like normal people, after all.

• Post-class, when everyone's going around admiring each other's mugs, you observe Dynamight's mug. It's decent, for a first-timer. You compliment him, and his only response is a 'tch.'

Becoming friends

• I think he'd end up enjoying ceramics. The meditative lull of focusing on the clay, pinching it, shaping it, giving it a wonderful form. He ends up signing up full-time.

• You end up making conversations here and there. It's short and polite. You've understood he's not a very talkative person during class.

• Post class he may be upto talking, but it's only limited to actual conversations. The second someone tries to make small talk with him, he's out of the building.

• I feel like the main thing that helps bonding with him is having a similar sense of humor. Like, one day your pot falls apart mid-session, and you mutter, "fucking– wonky pigeon-looking ass" and hear the loudest snort from behind you.

• You whip your head around and see him still focusing on his pot, just with a smirk on his face. Congrats, you just earned friendship points.

• From then on, things get easier. His mouth loosens up. At first, it's just cursing things together. That shitty convenience store downstairs, stupid Pro Heroes, nerve-grating traffic, anything and everything. The shared exhilaration of raging, and the feral grins help him open up more and more.

Getting together

• All the chatting turns into exchanged phone numbers, into meet ups. You genuinely look forward to seeing him in class, as does he. Everybody around him notices LMAO. It pisses him off but he can't help the flutters his stomach gives just thinking about you.

• I think you give him a small existential crisis. 25 years of thinking he's just not interested in people like that, and you turn it around in a couple months? And the annoying part is he can't figure out if his feelings are romantic or platonic. He doesn't want a relationship with you, but this feeling in his chest is way too intense for a friendship, right??

• I think he only confides in Izuku and his parents. They encourage him to confide in you, so he does. While correcting and rephrasing himself like a thousand times. He's clearly confused and unsure, but you accept it gracefully, and the two of you begin to do some research.

• Queer Platonic Relationships, the search engine says.

• Hmm. You look at each other. Worth a try.

QPPs

• Treats it like a mission. He absolutely HAS to see your face and hear your voice at least thrice a week, or he's making a sour face during hero work. Video calls are a norm now.

• Looooooves yapping. I feel like, now that he considers you his best friend (half a point ahead of Kirishima) (debatable if Izuku is in competition), he feels it's his birthright to call you at any time of the day and start complaining about things. Stupid villain was too weak for his tastes? You'll hear about it before seeing it on the news.

• Hates your other best friends. He met them, and was sporting a constant frown after one of them decided to flex their seniority over him. Doesn't like that someone knows his partner better than him, even if it's irrational.

• Secretly, doesn't hate them so much. He gets formal advice on how to treat you right (and some blackmail pics, if they hit it off well).

• You absolutely have to meet his friends too. They all love you, tho not all of them understand the nature of your relationship.

• [A/N: This is honestly making me want to write bkdk qpr. Or a bkdk x reader throuple qpr]

• I hc him as a physical touch and quality time person, so best believe he knows your address and spends his free days in your house. If you have a roommate or your parents around, he doesn't care and will shamelessly make himself at home. (he'll help your parents cook)

• Loves your presence. He's his own person, and admires and appreciates that you're your own. Loves when y'all do your own thing while sitting in the same room.

• Genuinely loves your relationship. He loves not being tied down by romance, but also have someone he can call 'his person.' Would die for you.

The Epilogue to the Epilogue

Sweet mercy Hori, end your story! I've already had to two other ending analysis post of your story, each one with less content then the last. What is, the next ending going to come via your Twitter sketches? I never thought an author would be brave enough to pull off what amounts to a hat trick to end their manga, but here we are.

All joking aside, the final fan book was released for My Hero Academia not to long ago. Normally, I don't care to talk about these. However, since there are a lot of things cleared up about the world and story with this, I figured I would talk about it. And since it's so mostly filled with random facts and a few pages of panels, these will mostly boil down to notes about it. These will be divided into groups.

For the sake of this, I am using the translations provided by aitaikimochi and shibuyasmash on Twitter.

Other:

-I'm actually mad that the United States got a new Number 1 pro hero and it wasn't Captain Celebrity. Christopher Skyline did not go through his whole mini-arc in Vigilantes just to be forgotten about here. Man overshadowed by a character that's just a name.

-The fact that Hori worked with real medical professionals on whether or not Bakugou could survive getting his heart exploded is so fascinating to me. Especially about how it was done the way it was to be as realistic as possible.

-Hori saying "Use your imagination" is not the proper translation. He's not calling people illiterate, nor is he saying that it's up to reader interoperation. He's just telling people to go and take a look at the volume for the answer. Which still seems like conformation. It's just not as bitter as either side seems to think it is.

Villains:

-Giving All For One a name at all is weird to me. Calling himself Zen is weirder. Having it tie back to his dead, prostitutes mother and her alias is about as weird as you can get for me on this.

-I honestly disappointed when we found about Tomura's real Quirk. It was just some random Quirk All For One used when flying around. Like, it makes sense to manifest that way given how "Float" works, but it feels like it anti climax to find out about it in a fan book.

-I like how this book goes on to push how much the LOV was slumming in. Going with pre-packaged food and entraining themselves by playing cards. It does make me wonder if Spinner and Tomura brought a rig to play games with each other all the time.

-Hori described what Gentle and La Brava does as "I guess it's kind of like Google". Hori, what does that even mean? I feel like I need a little more context then that. Are they some weird conglomerate of tech stuff? If it is, that seems kind of like an odd place for them to end up.

-It's interesting to see Hori talk about the back and fourth about killing off Toga. While I could see the arguments for keeping her alive, I still ultimately agree with the idea of killing her being the better option. I just think that alternative doesn't have the same impact.

Heroes:

-I'm a little mix on All Might being called the "Best Hero Ever." This feels like a compromise for All Might and Izuku with their achievements, but you could still have made their titles more distinct.. I would have preferred something like the "Greatest Pro Hero".

-Saying that All Might's highest speed is Mach 10 is kind of insane given everything we've seen. I prefer to think that's just his highest recorded speed. Like there was some charity event to see how fast he went and that's the number they recorded.

-I am a little disappointed that Aizawa cutting his hair was just an artistic choice. Because there is that whole symbolism of hair carrying memories that people talked about and it gets cut once that lingering memory of Oboro is gone. Just makes it feel less special.

-It's really odd to me that we don't have any kind of ending comment with Endeavor. Again, I always thought that his ending was the most open ended and hoped that we would have gotten something out of Hori for this book. It's a shame to say the least.

-Actually, there really aren't a lot of notes on the other pro heroes. Besides a few of the main stay teachers, the only one to get mentioend is Miruko. Who, I have to say, I could not care less about what she is doing now that the series is Miruko. She's still fighting? Wow, how riveting.

Other Students:

-There's some fun trivia. Koda liking bunnies, but being scared of Miruko is one of the funniest pieces of trivia in this entire franchise. And I have to wonder if Sero's bit about the mustache was inspired by the Spiderverse movies and the one that Miles grew out for that.

-It's interesting that Jiro is able to focus so much on her music career in spite of still bein a hero. While it could just be because heroes have more time to do stuff, it makes me wonder just how much work you have to do to be considered a hero and to keep your job as one.

-I have to know what Kirishima's "manly calendars" are. Is it just Kirishima doing differently manly things? Stuff like lifting big weights, breaking stuff with power tools, and working on big pick up trucks? I don't care what it takes. We need this available to us.

-The fact that Mina's horns grow with her Quirk is interesting. I just assumed they were there for aesthetics and didn't have any real function with her Quirk. It makes me wonder what kind of connections they have to her ability to produce the acid.

-I'm not a shipper, but I find it funny that Hori told everyone that Denki and Jiro aren't together in Chapter 431. Only to go on about how Jiro and Momo spend lots of time together and are "SUPER close friends". He has to be doing that intentionally. I don't know why, but he has to be.

-The idea of Bakugou and Monoma becoming closer is interesting. I actually thought there was a lot of overlap with their characters. I kind of wish we would have gotten more out of them in the main story. Maybe some new, minor rivalry that Bakugou can throw himself into.

Main Cast:

-The fact that there can be heroes with the same name is very odd. Or that Tensei can even be counted as a hero since he can't exactly do hero work. Maybe he's acting as a sidekick for Tenya, working as the one helping his little brother from the sidelines.

-You know, I wouldn't have had "Shoto goes into urban planning" on my bingo card, but here we are. Though it is still humorous how socially inept he still is. The fact that people faint at his smile must be very worrying to him. Probably makes him think his smile is cursed.

-The fact that Bakugou still gets babied by the other pro heroes. It's like they look at that train wreck of a kid that's killing his reputation with every interview. And they decide that he needs some kind of mentor figure right there and then to keep him on the right path.

-What's that? Ochako was the one who put a positive twist on Deku? Was the one always supporting him? Even has the nickname of "Deku's Cheer Capitan?" Wow, it's almost like she's important to Izuku's growth and play a major role in him gaining confidence.

-So not only did Izuku stay a Top 100 without doing any hero work, he shot up to the fourth spot on his first day back. To everyone who says he was forgotten about, I want you to send a hand written apology for all the terrible takes you had and you appalling ignorance.

-Not only is Izuku still teaching, but apparently he's teaching hero history and regular history. Though I can only imagine that his entire classes would just be him yammering on about all the smallest details of history. Once again proving he's just like me, for real.

One Shot-Review:

Yeah, there isn't a lot to say about this one. It's nice to see Eri and see her happy after everything she's gone through. It's a good way of showing that even deviations who can't control their Quirk can still live in this world. And it's cute that she has her own thing going on outside of hero work. It does solidify Izuku's place in the world after he lost "One For All". That people still adore and look up to him. Something that I greatly appreciate after the last two ending chapters. I like that look we get a proper look at Izuku's costume, or at least the back of it with the cape. Plus having him dunk on Bakugou after all these years is still nice to see. Izuku was out of the race for years and he's still a higher rank then you. Yet I really don't think it adds that much to the overall story. Eri's story wasn't really something that needed completion. That tiny bit of her living a normal life was more then enough to finish off her story. This kind of just feels like it's a section of a secret, missing Chapter 430.5 where we got updates on all the other characters we didn't see as much. I'm glad we have it, I just don't think we need it.

Which kind of sums up my feelings for a lot of this fan book. Sure, none of the fan books have been earth shattering in terms of the content they provide. Yet this one feels pretty dull in comparison to everything else. There are a few highs, like the bits talking about Toga or getting more information on Izuku. It's why I didn't feel that compelled to talk about some of the characters with this, especially the students. A lot of their content is just say something really innocuous about their lives as heroes. Which I do like to read about. It's cute to hear things like Denki getting into issues because someone yelled a name at him. I just think that there should have been something a little more interesting for one of the last pieces of content for the story. These could have been the chance to go all out with the details of the story Hori wanted to talk about, but didn't have time to discuss. Or at least don't repeat information we already know.

I think that there’s a fundamental misunderstanding of what exactly is…happening with Izuku’s character. Specifically in regards to chapter 425.

I’m glad that a lot more people generally recognize that Izuku is not a character that can be read at a surface level, given that he’s both a repressed person with built up emotion of basically everything and also a very glaringly HUGELY unreliable narrator, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I agree with the ways I’ve seen this most recent chapter spoken about.

I see posts, comments, etc with ideas like “Izuku don’t suppress your emotions! Open up with people! It’ll be okay I promise!” When that’s fundamentally not what is happening here.

There’s always always ALWAYS been a distinct difference in character throughout horikoshi’s writing when he is showing that a character is:

A—Avoiding emotions, thoughts, ideas less than ideal for them. Not opening up when they probably should about their problems given that they’ve been handed the space to do so. Just genuinely not acknowledging, feeling, or expressing emotions that they don’t want.

B—Reflecting on the ways they feel about the world, themselves, or other people given their new perspective on a situation. Not outright reaching out to others to talk about these problems/feelings, but instead waiting until the moment they feel they have the most confidence to do so with their new outlook on their own life.

And genuinely, guys, to grab your BkDk attention rn, this is the exact reason why Ochako’s reflection on her feelings for Izuku and thereafter decision to pull away from them WAS NEVER GOING TO END IN OCHAKO EXPLODING WITH HER LOVE FOR HIM.

This was another common interpretation I saw of Ochako and Izuocha for a long time. That because she pushed these feelings away, they were somehow going to explode in this unbelievable way and she would “get the boy” because of it. That her arc would surround accepting her romantic feelings and that she can’t just push away how she feels for a career.

But yk. That didn’t happen. At all. Nowhere close even.

The same kind of goes for Katsuki, allmight, etc. They all had moments in their arc where it was spent genuinely reflecting, and the only reason we as the audience never connected it in the same ways we do ochako or Izuku was ALWAYS BECAUSE the narrative showed their inner thoughts while doing so (mostly because Allmight’s arc after losing OFA and Katsuki’s arc on what it means to be a hero were so intrinsically tied, both starting at the same time and ending at the same time during the final war. And because they were so tied this caused their own reflections, development, and thought process to be broadcasted to us frequently throughout their arcs… to each other. They also somewhat shared aspects with Izuku, but these were cherry picked more often than not, like dvk2 for example).

To us Katsuki never seemed to be.. idk, suppressing his anger in any way because we were always told what he was doing and why (side note: this is why I’ve always thought arguments against Katsuki were so weird, bc unlike characters like endeavor or Ochako he wasn’t like… hiding who he was and how he was changing. Ever. Like the audience knows at all times past basically season 3 what Katsuki is thinking and doing. Like how do you watch this happen, stare me dead in the eye, and tell me how much of a terrible and awful teenage boy he is. Like damn I didn’t think we were this dumb. This is also my theory as to why he’s most popular, his arc is very… in your face if that makes sense). Katsuki’s entire mini arc on reflecting his mistakes and his childhood and his future is spent TELLING YOU that it’s what he’s doing. (I’m referring mostly to the endeavor internship arc, the provisional license exam makeup, and basically everything in the war arc related to him leading up to bakugou Katsuki rising here)

And see, Horikoshi will stare you dead in the eye, tell you “this girl has taken into consideration that she doesn’t want to waste her time training her career focusing on a boy because he kinda caught her fancy”, and y’all will still say that this will explode in her face.

Y’all this is a series about learning how to manage emotions, maturity in relationship to one’s emotions, how to feel an emotion, but in a way that is helpful. Horikoshi isn’t telling you “go buck wild, feel everything all the time and always express it”, in fact he explores why you DONT do that! Through Toga or Shigaraki, they show how grief and anger can genuinely consume you. But he also shows why you shouldn’t just put everything in a box to never look at or acknowledge, or why you shouldn’t just let your grief destroy the world around you, or pretending that some emotions simply don’t exist.

I can’t say this enough, so let me say it now, mha is about the extremes of your psyche. That you should control something, but not too much. Everything can be harmful. Everything can be good.

Izuku is not controlling too much, he’s expressing just enough.

I LOVE shaming this dickhead at all times in all my posts. I love saying he’s an ignorant dipshit with a weird amount of distaste for a girl who just confessed to him. I’ve joked that chapter 348 is basically an entire chapter spent on Izuku calling Himiko a mean dyke. And yet I also believe he’s doing nothing WRONG here.

In fact, I’ll even say that this moment right here?

ISNT EVEN IZUKU DOING THE SOCIALLY APPROPRIATE THING ABOUT IT! But he’s still TRYING to reach out to someone he thinks MIGHT be able to understand. (And frankly, this moment is far deeper than what it’s being made out to be, to me it reads more like an unrequited friendship that Izuku both desires and has thought of them to have, while simultaneously showing the distance Ochako has successfully wedged between them for her own sake. Maybe it was always there though, maybe in weird, miscommunicated Horikoshi fashion, this is a representation of how Ochako always read all those “fun friend hangouts” as a little more than that, and without those feelings the friendship never really held any substance to her in the first place. Where Izuku saw his first real friend at UA, she saw little more than acquaintance)

Simultaneously, Izuku is genuinely reflecting on what it means for the world to change, to be a hero, to live after loss—and trying and failing to gain the connection he desires from individuals who can not and will not afford him that.

Izuku is ready for the world to change, a few select characters are also ready for the world to change (mirio, for example), but not nearly enough are. So maybe I’ll have to take this back if I’m proven wrong and I accidentally looked into this far past what everyone else did for no reason, but I genuinely believe with moments like this

That Izuku has come forward with that aspect of his character development. He’s reflecting on his new beliefs, not repressing his emotions for them.

you had gotten your quirk around age four like everyone else but you had gotten the quirk angel wich meant you had gotten a small pair of white wings,heightened senses,and a thing called holy white light as you liked to call it,it was a lethal power.the power was a high concentration of pure energy from your plams,the level of power, shape, and destruction could be controlled! when you had gotten this power as a kid you had started to stand out more the wings making you more alone. meaning amongst other kids you were more quite and shy.many kids had talked about you,they whispered rude names,giggling when you walked by, you really had no mind for them though,the only person who didnt do this was izuku midoriya he was a little green haired boy who was kind and actually saw you as a person not as a quirk.so you guys became friends and hanged out at the park from time to time.that was until you had to move away for a few years for training.

by the time you came back you were in the last year of middle school.it felt weird being back in your childhood neighborhood let alone with all new people.you were sitting in front of your vanity finishing up your make up look for the day,you had already gotten dressed in your school uniform,you were contemplating if you you actually wanted to be back it was odd.everything changed you had changed your still somewhat quite, but your wings had growned,they were now bigger, stronger, you could use them in new ways,and they were well beautiful,you maintained them well.

“y/n come on its time for school” your mother shouted from downstairs.you grabbed your bag,not after checking fifteen times if you had everything.you walked out of your room and down the stairs to see your parents in the living room,watching whatever was on the news.they quickly glanced at you.you waved them goodbye and walked out the door.you started this short walk to school the wind slightly blowing,the sun awake shining down on everything.your grabbed your headphones and put them in playing your playlist.you continued to walk until you reached the front of the school everyone laughing,talking, socializing.

you felt out of place.it was like everyone knew each other already.it was hard trying to ignore the feeling of everyone looking at you,you werent that hard to miss! you had hoped to see one person that green haired boy from your childhood.some random group of kids came up to you while you were walking.they just had started asking you questions when you had heard someone yelling.you quickly looked behind you to see who was yelling only to be met with the loudest guy ever.he was in the hallway yelling something about extras being in his way when he had shoved past you,you scoffed at this who does this guy think that he is? you quickly sent one of your feathers flying after him just to poke him in the back and side a few times.he had stopped dead in his tracks.you quickly retrated the feather back to wing.

“who did that” silence nothing but silence filled the hallway.he turned to face you.he grabbed the collar of your shirt pinning you against the wall.

“i bet it was you huh?”

“so what if it was?”

he scoffed at this “dont think because you’re new here that you’re all that.you’re nothing but a damn extra.”

your back was on fire,the feeling of your wings being smothered against the wall was not a good feeling.he soon dropped you though not without looking you up and down,scoffing then spitting on your shoes of course.you had just gotten these shoes too! after that everyone slowly had faded away from the hallway, you had went to the bathroom to get that guys nasty spit off your shoe,because of this you had been a little late to class,unfortunately for you when you had walked in through the doors of class,everyone had turned to see why the door was opening,you saw him.that raging blonde from before,but on the upperhand you saw those big green eyes from your childhood,you would recognize them anywhere.it was izuku! the teacher called you to the front so you could introduce yourself.you shuffled to the front.

“i’m y/n l/n,and you guys can see what my quirk is” some scattered applause came from around the room. “you can take a seat behind bakugou, and next to midoriya”you made your way back to the seat your teacher had called out.his name was bakugou huh? you did not like him.after what felt like five hundred years of torture the class was finally over.you packed up your stuff and izuku started talking to you.

“hey y/n! its been a minute huh? i see you’ve improved your quirk! your wings look so good have only they improved or has other stuff improved too? where did you go when you disappeared for all those years? i missed you! it was so lonely with out you! you know-”

“izuku! you’re rambling again i see old habits die hard huh? ill tell you everything at lunch just show me where the canteen is.”

“yeah right!”

little did you know,bakugou was listening in on your conversation not on purpose of course i mean who would want to listen to you two extras talk? but he soon grew curious how did you know some random qurikless loser like deku? your quirk looked somewhat powerful and you werent sacred to stick up to him and stand your ground. so it all circled back to the question

how did you know stupid deku?

you and bakugou had more interactions,well more like arguments and bickering,but you never took them to heart and neither did he! its just how you guys worked.sometimes he would push you,shove you,take a book or two out of your bag and hide them somewhere stupid,you would repay the favor.one day though while you were zoning out during class until you heard your name “lastly bakugou and… l/n will be partners for the project” you nearly fell out of your seat! partners!? and worse a project!? for what! you weren’t even paying attention to what the teacher was saying. bakugou turned around and made eye contact with you.

“lets go we need to plan this shitty project”

“uhm right..”

“do you even know what were doing?”

“no…i was zoned out…”

“were doing a project each others quirks and stuff.”

“oh yeah right…why does this have to be a partnered up project though”

“the teacher wants us to get as much information on each others quirks and compare them”

“oh okay that makes sense..anyways! do you want to come to my house or yours”

“mine obviously,its a friday so you can come over today”

“okay but we have to stop at my house first so i can get some stuff”

“tch whatever” and with that he walked off

you continued on with your normal classes.much to your dismay the day soon came to end meaning you had to meet up with bakugou and do this stupid project.you walking out of the school when you heard his footsteps you didnt say anything,you didnt really have to.you guys had a silent walk to your house.when you arrived you unlocked the door and stepped inside you let him in too,it was odd seeing him in your house, but you payed it no mind.

“hey uhm you can help yourself to anything in the fridge,if you get bored you can go in my room or the living room”

“i thought we were going to my place you idiot”

“we are dont worry i just want to shower and change,wont take long i swear” you said saluting him

“tch better not”

he helped himself to a glass of water and stayed downstairs in the living room.after a bit you came down the stairs,you were changed out of the school uniform in more casual clothes now you had a bag probably filled with stuff for the project.

“okay we can go now!”

he got up from the couch and led the way to his house.surprisingly he didnt live that far from you.he opened the door to his house and you were welcomed with the smell of something amazing.his house was actually quite nice you didn’t even expect the house to even be in tact considering his personality,but hey lets look on the bright side!

“hag were home” he shouted towards the kitchen “my moms going to want to talk to you so do that first and ill be waiting in my room” he walked off

“hi dear! are you one of katsuki’s friends?”

“sure you can say that! we just got partnered for a project is all”

“well thats just lovely! please be patient with him i know he can be a pain in the ass”

“of course mrs.bakugou”

you walked around the house,the walls adorned with family pictures,and vacations.you saw his door and knocked lightly against the wooden material.you walked in and you met with his huge room,posters of bands hanged all around,a huge bed in the corner,you know typical stuff for katsuki.

“lets get the stupid project over with”

you guys had brainstormed,and worked together for hours comparing your quirks,but also talking about how they could work together.when you guys weren’t talking about the project you talk about your guys music taste,your dreams to be a hero,it turned out you had more in common than you thought and maybe katsuki wasnt that bad after all.the sun outside of his window had set, turning from a bright afternoon to a shaded evening.you didn’t even realize the time until his mom had called for dinner and invited you to the table,i mean who were to decline the food smelled heavenly and she was much better company than katsuki so why not! at dinner mrs.bakugou brought up how late it was and if you would be staying the night, okay this one you had to decline no way you were staying the night here!…except she insisted and said she had a spare room for guests that was never used and you could leave in the morning. wouldnt be to bad right?after dinner you helped mrs.bakugou wash up and put dishes away.then you headed to the guest room to sleep.

so the next morning after you woke up you said your thanks to everyone and headed home.as you were on your way home though you ran into izuku! you guys started chatting it up talking about school and some recent drama he had heard.until he invited you to hang out in the park you guys always went to as kids,of course you said yes you finally had time to catch up with your friend! after a while izuku had walked you home and told you he would talk to you at school.

the weekend eneded faster then you would have liked but whatever,the boring classes came back except this time you and katsuki actually talked all week,you could say you guys were at least acquaintances now it was weird at first,but you had grown to like his presence and personality.It was finally friday,and today was the day everyone enrolled into high schools you had enrolled in UA of course! after you turned your paper into the teacher you grabbed your stuff and left,after realizing you had left your phone you went back to class to grab it when you heard two voices no maybe three? who knows you opend the door to see katsuki and his two goons hovering over izuku no had noticed you had walked in except for izuku his eyes latched onto yours silently begging for help.

“what the hell do you think your doing katsuki”your voice broke the laughter, all three of them had turned to look at you.

“teaching this nerd his place…did you know he enrolled in UA? how pathetic is that”

“you have no business telling anyone that”

“dont tell me you actually like this nerd! we all know you hang out with him out of pity”

“i hang out with him because he is my friend, something you would know nothing about”

“your just as stupid as him if you thought we were friends”

“i guess so just get the hell out of here katsuki! and dont talk to me again”you stared right in his eyes,he thought you were joking at first but seeing your face he knew you were serious

“whatever your nerd just like him”

him and his goons had walked out of the classroom.you turned to so izuku he was lightly scratched,and tears threatened to fall you said nothing just helping him up and walking him to the nurses office.good thing this would be one of the last weeks of school,you and izuku could be freed from this place and could enjoy the summer.

the summer finally rolled around you and izuku hanging out more,but you were also a little concerned he seemed to be training harder than ever,but so were you.exams for UA came in no time it seemed,you and izuku stayed strong as ever,katsuki being a fuzzy memory in your mind. till you saw him at the exams he seemed to he the same old person loud,rude,but under all of that he was still a decent person,but you had stood your ground by leaving him alone and him being just as hard headed didnt bother to talk to you.you seemed fine chatting it up and being best friends with izuku.if he hated izuku he definitely hated him now.katsuki didnt know why he had grown to not mind your presence maybe it was the way you werent scared of him,maybe the way you fought back,he didn’t know nor care he just knew he hated you hanging out with izuku.all three of you guys had made it into UA not surprise there though.the school year went on and it seemed like you were always with izuku,katsuki tried talking to you sure but you were true to your word and didnt talk to him,he hated a lot of stuff but this,you ignoring him and izuku taking the spotlight in your life really took the cake.so he started picking on izuku more now,you didnt know of course otherwise you would have put a stop to it immediately.

you found out though izuku had been more distant,appering with more bruises,and he wouldn’t tell you? he was being really suspicious. you were walking around UA campus when you heard some commotion near the fountain you walked over there to see no other than katsuki and izuku,it looked like he was being cornered once again,obviously you rushed over there.

“katsuki what on earth is happening”his head turned at the sound of your voice you finally noticed him of course you payed him some mind when it came to being at izuku’s rescue.

“so now you decide to talk to me?”

“izuku can you leave clearly me an katsuki need to talk”and with that he scurried off

“so what did you have to say to me?”

“…thought you didnt want to talk to me”his voice raspy

“i dont,but you obviously have something say so spit it out,dont think i haven’t noticed you looking at me and whispering”

“why are you always with him?”

“who?…izuku? its because he is my friend”

“and im not? it seems like your always with him and to his rescue,people have been assuming you’re dating”

“so? why are bringing this up”

“because you’re always spending time with him! you left me for him!”

“katsuki…”

“no! you dont ever want to pay me the slightest bit of mind its like you forgot me..but i couldn’t forget you no matter how hard i tried..but i just cant..” hes looking at you now,eyes desperate

“i could never forget you katsuki…why dont we have a fresh start at us being friends again? we have enough time right?”

“right.”

Bakugou is a prideful, arrogant person. He holds himself to the highest standard; he is the best and everyone else is simply below him. Everything he has ever done was in pursuit of being number one, shining above the rest. He has to have a perfect victory, he has to be a perfect student, he has to win to save.

He pushes and pushes and won’t let anyone see his weaknesses or his insecurities. He can never lose, he can never fail, he can never show that he regrets or hesitates or that he hasn’t thought everything through. He must never be vulnerable in every sense of the word.

Then why is he standing in the rain.

To apologize shouldn’t be a sacrifice, but it is for Bakugou. To pour his feelings, to admit his wrong, to let down all of the walls he has built and be vulnerable. And in front of his whole class.

He is willing to sacrifice his pride, to fully sacrifice any superiority he could have, to bare his soul and even risk rejection. Because he knows Midoriya is more important. Because he wants him to come home, he wants him to know his true feelings, because he wants things to change. 

Because Midoriya has changed him. Midoriya has opened his eyes; by showing him he’s allowed to be open, that his feelings should be expressed, that he has so much to learn, and so much of that was learned through Midoriya just existing.

He isn’t sacrificing his safety frivolously because he’s expected to as a hero; he is doing it because he has grown. He is doing it because he has finally admitted to himself that he wants Midoriya to be with him and safe.

So I will sacrifice this for you. Not because it will change anything, as much as I want that I know that I can’t just fix all the wrong with just this. And I am willing to do as much as it takes to earn your forgiveness. But I don’t need that from you, not now and not ever if you don’t want that, I just need you to rest. I did so much wrong. And I am sorry for everything. You don’t have to do this alone. Lean on us. You are so strong and being supported doesn’t discount that. You’ve taught me that. 

I hate the rain. But I will brave it for you. 

He would do everything in his power, admit so many things, just to get Midoriya to take care of himself. We see him being the most vulnerable he has ever been in front of people that aren’t Midoriya. He does so much completely out of character, all in pursuit of being there for Midoriya. 

For Izuku.

He finally gets over himself and finally tells Midoriya the feelings he has felt for so long.

He lets go of this idea he is inherently better and finally acknowledges that his hatred for Midoriya has always been about his own shortcomings and insecurities. But he still wants to be better, they are still rivals. He isn’t going to sacrifice that part of him because that is just who he is; he is still going to push to number one.

But now it’s different.

There is verbal and vocal acceptance and respect. Before it was unspoken; their relationship had changed ever since Ground Beta. They were proper rivals, with mutual respect and care, they were actively making each other better.

But Bakugo finally verbalizes it and tells Midoriya, not only is he sorry, but he wants to actually have a proper friendship; he wants to continue to become better and earn his forgiveness. He wants them to push each other to be better, he wants to continue to fight for the top spot, he still wants to be the best.

But when did it become something else? 

When was the turning point when it started to shift from wanting to surpass Midoriya and be the best, to wanting to keep up with Midoriya and stay by his side?

Bakugou has already sacrificed himself for Midoriya before. His body moved on its own; with no hesitation, he would save Midoriya. He has already risked his life for him. But there is a layer to it that I don’t think people talk about. 

He tells Midoriya he shouldn’t try to win this on his own. 

He disguises his concern with an insistence that he’s in it to fight for himself when he initially joins the battle. But it is to fight by Midoriya’s side and support him.

But taking the hit for Midoriya, jumping in the way isn’t just support. This is sacrifice. This is giving yourself to ensure the safety of someone. And it was second nature. 

There are two reasons and both are a sacrifice of something in the moment.

It is knowing someone is so valuable, so great, in all senses of the word, that they must be protected. Bakugou is sacrificing his body and admitting that Midoriya needs to stay alive, for personal reasons and/or for the world. He needs Midoriya to be okay, Midoriya can’t fight alone and Bakugou will do anything to make sure he will be okay. 

But the sacrifice of ideology. 

With every development, he has relinquished parts of himself. When he sacrifices himself he is not only sacrificing his body but is admitting that he can’t do this on his own; he needs Midoriya too. This isn’t him wanting to be better than Midoriya, it’s him wanting to do it together.

Midoriya changed him.

He doesn’t die for Midoriya. He wakes up and just as his last thought was Midoriya, so was his first as he woke up. He runs to his side. People are dragging him back, trying to have him rest, knowing before he even said anything that he would lose his mind over Midoriya’s situation. 

Everyone sees how Bakugou feels about Midoriya.

He sacrifices himself because Midoriya can not die on him. Midoriya has to stay alive. Midoriya has to keep fighting. 

There can not be a world that doesn’t have him in it.

This is the culmination of what has been developing ever since the final exam where Bakugou finally works with Midoriya; the day that win to save, save to win was noticed. Then furthered after Ground Beta where they finally talked to each other and something changed within them both.

But the final sacrifice is the culmination of Bakugou’s character.

He knows what this decision will mean. Everyone screams for him not to. He knows that he is going to die. He knows he will not win this fight.

This isn’t dying for the cause. This isn’t just a hero complex. This is because he can help Midoriya and he will. This is for Izuku.

I will sacrifice myself for you. To give you more time, to give you even the slightest chance of winning. I will sacrifice myself for you because you are who can win. I am going to die. I am going to die and in my final thoughts, I will ask if I will still be able to be by your side.

It is no longer can I beat you. It is no longer can I surpass you. It is can I still catch up to you. It is can I still even be equal to you. He has already sacrificed the idea that he could beat Midoriya, that isn’t what he wants anymore. What he wants is to stay here with him.

I will sacrifice everything I am. I have wanted to be the best. All my life I have wanted to surpass you and everyone around me. But you. I will let that go for you. I let it go in my mind for so long now and I have never wanted to admit it. Is it even possible? Is it even possible for me to catch up to you? Is it even possible for me to stay by your side. I can’t be that anymore. I am sacrificing even that now. I will never be number one now. I will never become the person I always dreamed to be. I will never surpass you. I am forever sacrificing that now. I will die here.  

But can I still be with you?

The sacrifice of his life is him fully relinquishing everything he is, admitting that he can’t keep up, losing all of the progress he has made, letting go of everything that made up his character.

And the last thing on his mind is if he can still be able to be by Midoriya’s side.

He won’t let him go again.
