Donna and OC Alec stuff (they do not like their skin)
btw RE8 Alec is scared of the elevator in Donna’s house at first, they also get stuck in the elevator with Donna and she kind of laughs at them a bit
RL Alec is always bringing donna a critter or something, and then yapping about specific critters good for growing plants. (i’m an isopod enthusiast)
(alec doodle is based on that “i saw the tv glow” scene)
(yapping story beneath the cut)
didn’t do this idea justice FUCK sorry
anyway i’m visiting my gf in a few hours so yippee!
but i’m packing rn bc i procrastinated so fuck i’m stressed (also last time someone accidentally took my luggage and i freaked out thinking i lost our sx toys and stuff 💀 dw i got it back)
i’m trying to convince my gf to cosplay as donna so idk we’ll see 🙏

did u see the new merulanella revision dropped? i have no idea whether links work in asks, so i'll mess with the url a little:
https ://doi. org/ 10.3897 /nhcm. 2.144386
I have not seen the study- probably because I am a recreational isopod enthusiast- but I am DEFINITELY having a lot of fun reading through this, I've had thoughts of merulanella species being quite different before in some ways, so I'm happy that it is being researched! also I am roughly a 1/3 through and it already feels like they're slandering verhoeff despite using the most passive language possible which I find unreasonably funny. thank you for this! I am having a very fun evening indeed!
here's the link for anyone wanting to read it too
Also if you're a recreational isopod enthusiast, which I doubt you are to be honest since the paper came out YESTERDAY, then check out @identifying-isopods-in-posts's ongoing creation of the isopod identification guide! very fun.

People who can be (easily) turned into Ant People: * Plant Gall People * Wasp Fans * Lichen Folk * Isopod Fans (If they also like the marine species ONLY) * Slime mold hobbyists * Mole rat fans? (maybe?) * People who promote "The Ediacaran" period * Cellular Automata Farmers * Simulation fans generally * Mite enthusiasts
People who can (probably) NOT be turned into Ant People: * Termite fans (there is a hostility) * Rose breeders * Outdoor electronics gadget makers

Hello again, Jay!
I'm thinking of drawing some bugs in Hollow Knight's art style. I thought I'd consult you, the resident bug enthusiast/expert about this. What bugs do you suggest that I draw? You can recommend your favourites.
I've decided to pick the Starry Night Peacock Spider and the Diabolical Ironclad Beetle (this one can apparently survive getting run over by a car). I could use some more additions to the list.

howdy haiii
those are pretty good choices if I ever had to pick any! Other than that maybe the hercules beetle or even some isopods would work nicely with what i see- you've already got perfect choices though!

Icypods are a common, harmless Creature found in tundras, glaciers, and mountain peaks. To defend themselves from predators, they curl up into a defensive ball - a behavior known as conglobating. The texture of their carapace is uniquely capable of collecting layers of ice, so when curled, they appear as an inanimate lump of snow.
Icypods are typically harmless to humans, but they can sometimes pose a minor threat to mountainous communities. Under the right conditions, they can curl up into a snowball and roll down a slope, accumulating more and more mass. When they get big and fast enough, they've been known to take out small trees and fences before being stopped by a boulder or an unfortunate mountain cabin. The icypod always emerges unscathed, if disoriented.
They're about 9 inches long, with a diameter of just about 3 inches when conglobated - about the size of a baseball. Icypods are larger than any currently known terrestrial isopods, leading some Enthusiasts to theorize that they may have a bit of deep-sea dwelling Giant Isopod in them, but modern DNA analysis techniques suggest they were formed from your regular backyard roly-poly, Armadillidium vulgare.
Podsicles are a larger variant of Icypod, formed when an adult Icypod is exposed to subzero temperatures for extended periods of time. Their carapace begins to form dense icicle-like structures, making them even more unpalatable to most predators. Podsicles have much more control over their snowball avalanche, deliberately rolling down ramps to fling themselves at high speeds to injure potential aggressors.

josh headcanons cuz yeah (these are gonna be all of them actually so anyone who cares abt my posts have prob seen these before)
multimedia artist; i think he mainly likes to use paints and charcoal, and if he's sketching he uses smudges and sharp fancy artist pencils
loves drones and cyborg related anything, especially if it's horror related, so like sci-fi horror (also is a sucker for slasher horror, i fink saw is his favorite probably)
he's got an engineer kinda streak to him. he loves making things and tampering with machinery (contrast to chris who loves tampering with electronics instead)
loves to write stories, but he keeps it hidden bc he thinks it's embarrassing
he doesn't game often, when he does though he enjoys castlevania and resident evil, and has played majority of the story games out there on playstation
he also likes survival horror in general when it comes to games. prob liked haunting ground
video essay enthusiast, josh is like that meme that's like "what happened to him" "he ate without youtube" like that's his vibe
can info dump about anything aquatic, loves the aquarium and his favorite sea creature is an isopod bc it looks so extraterrestrial
although he's afraid of spiders, he enjoys the creepy crawly if they're slimy and cool looking
has about 20 sketchbooks
breaks every pair of headphones he's ever owned and the only ones he hasn't broken are sony headphones his dad got in like 2001
made a shit ton of mix tapes in high school, it's literally all poorly exported mp3s of unheard of artists that he still indulged in till college
i don't think josh is that frequent of a drug user so from time to time he smokes weed
on that ^ topic tho he has messed with a variety of drugs
horrible decision maker: in 7th grade he chugged robitussin and had a full body rash
trans, was stealth till he came out in like college, and he doesn't gaf abt what pronouns ppl use
likes the uncanny, creepy dolls and masks and mannequins are like one of his favorite things in horror (kinda true bc of all the mannequins we see in the therapy sessions + the dolls he used to represent his friends)
his bday is january 30th (mainly bc his bday just has to be in january for his age to make sense + he's the most aquarius man i've ever seen)
used to be into sports bc his dad would play baseball with him but i think that ended up dwindling over the years and josh lost all interest in sports by high school and thought it was lame
also in high school he was in the yearbook club
he was verryyyy dorky in high school which he tried keeping to himself but it didn't mesh well with others so josh opted to be like. the guy who everyone went to for parties and booze when he got to college
while he did study psychology i also think he was interested in other science or stem courses in general while there, but he didn't pursue it
in public he dresses in a way he hopes nobody even thinks about (just super casual and normal he's like a sim) but splurges on weird clothes he finds on cheap sites
both his parents worked and were hardly home, so josh had to learn to cook if him and his sisters ever wanted to have dinner
he had a lot of jobs while in college and high school; longest place he worked at was a cafe. he also took up working at the college library but hated it and quit
he steals a lot of hannah's accessories
is mildly interested in botany
knows ASL, has EDS, and used to do ballet with his sisters at a young age. they try to get him back into it but he firmly declines.
very autistic, specifically about horror movies and filmmaking in general. he always looks for the behind the scenes footage of all his favorite horror films, and particularly enjoys the FX process
okay this is all i got i might add more to it if i remember my other headcanons (which honestly is just endless atp)
also while i do hc all of this for him, josh is still the same douche bag we see in game. i just wanted him to have more interests besides just being the horror and films guy (which i do keep in his character while headcanoning all of this)

Big Bug Appreciation Post! (1/2)
For anyone who’s been on my blog, or has interacted with me, it’s no surprise I’m a bug enthusiast. But I don’t think I’ve ever made an official bug appreciation post, and there are a lot of bugs in my state that I think are super neat, so I wanted to briefly talk about them here. Not all of them will be insects though.
Unfortunately, I won’t be putting in any isopods or roaches because my state doesn’t have a whole lot of those guys that I would consider “particularly special.” But just note that I do appreciate isopods and roaches, and think that they have a great impact on their natural environments.
Anyway, onto the bugs!
Blue-Winged Wasp

These babes usually hang out in the dog fennel near my yard, and I think they’re very pretty wasps. Their wings are an iridescent blue (hence the name), and their yellow spots are quite cute. They're also relatively chill, so you can stand pretty close to them and they wouldn’t care.
2. Common Paper Wasp

They’re everywhere, but I’d be lying if I said they weren’t pretty either. I think that they have a really neat color palette and super cool pattern to them. I’ve had personal experience with them, and I’ve always made sure that when I went on my balcony, that I didn’t present as a threat to them. Overall, I enjoyed sitting with these pretty critters.
3. Giant Leopard Moth

They look like snow leopards! Ironically enough, similar to how snow leopards are closely related to tigers, leopard moths are closely related to tiger moths (in fact, they’re in the same family). I raised one of these guys. His name was Napoleon, and he was the fanciest little guy 🩵.
4. Amber Snail

It’s usually stated online that amber snails are a pretty rare species. So I think it was pretty neat how I once found five or six on my mom’s calla lilies. They’re very tiny and very adorable, ‘nuff said.
5. Golden Sill Orb Weaver

A huge species of orb weaver that I think is absolutely gorgeous. These gals can get big, and I mean BIG. But no matter the size, it’s always a treat to see them during walks into the woods.
6. Agapostemon Sweat Bee

Agapostemon is actually just a genus of sweat bee, and I’ve personally come across at least two species. All I really need to say about these guys is that they’re metallic green bees, and the ones that live near my house are surprisingly mega chill (I still wouldn’t hold one tho lol).
7. Bee Fly

Maybe not as cute as their Japanese relatives, but they’re still whimsical little fairy creatures that I would absolutely pet in a heartbeat (if given the chance).
8. Flatback Millipede

I just wanted to bring up how metal I think these guys are. 10/10, absolutely fire little guys 🔥🔥🔥.
9. Eastern Pondhawk

They’re everywhere in the local pond and I love them. They’re one of my favorite examples of dimorphism because of how cool the females look (they’re the green ones). But sometimes it can be hard to distinguish a male and a female because younger males are more green. Still, they’re cool bugs.
10. Violet Dancer

In my opinion, one of the prettiest species of damselflies. I’ve encountered one of these before (at a swamp). They’re just as vibrant as in the pictures 💜.
11. Ebony Jewelwing

Another beautiful damselfly! This time, on a larger scale. These can also be found in swamps, and their metallic green color is super cool.
12. Swallowtails (Just in General)

(Pipevine Swallowtail in the picture)
Swallowtails are my state’s official butterfly, and the reason for that is pretty simple: They’re literally everywhere. The most common is the Eastern Tiger, but there are other species, such as: The Black Swallowtail, Zebra Swallowtail, Pipevine Swallowtail, and probably even more. Another neat thing about them is that they’re in the same family as the world’s largest butterfly species: The Queen Alexandra’s Birdwing. So there’s some fun lil trivia for ya 👍.
13. Golden Northern Bumblebee

They’re very friend-shaped, and also very big. In fact, some of them can get bigger than carpenter bees. They don’t visit very often, but I really like them.
14. Variegated Fritillary

A very close relative of the gulf fritillary. In fact, I found caterpillars of both species eating passion vine together.

You can usually tell them apart pretty easily since Variegated caterpillars are lined with white dots. Also, fun fact: Their spines are non-stinging and completely harmless in general.
15. Larger Elm Leaf Beetle

Super friend-shaped, and extremely lightweight (you will barely feel them on your hand). They're pretty easy to handle since they’re very docile. But they’re considered pests to certain plants, so they’re not very liked by gardeners.
16. Golden Tortoise Beetle

Also friend-shaped, but very tiny and super skittish. One really interesting thing about them is that their larvae use their own feces as a shield. So, yeah, that’s a thing that they do.
17. Imperial Moth

A close relative of the Luna Moth (they’re in the same family). They might not be the most extravagant moths, but they have a rustic charm to them, and they remind me of bananas. Also, they’re fluffy, so they’re automatically cute.
18. Pink-Striped Oakworm Moth

A much smaller relative of the Luna Moth (also in the same family). These babes are nocturnal and absolutely adorable.
19. Antlion

Despite being shaped like a damselfly, these fellas are more closely related to lacewings and mantidflies. You may recognize their name, and that’s because the most notable thing about antlions is their larvae (also called “doodlebugs”).

Y’know, these silly lil guys. The ones that make pit traps to eat their favorite food: Ants. They're funky. I love them.
20. Spring Fishfly

I just think they’re cool. They come from water.
21. Woolly Apple Aphid

Adorable, fluffy, whimsical fairy creatures. I had the pleasure of holding one once. You can’t even feel them on your finger.
22. Red Velvet Ant/ Cow Killer

Despite her name, she’s not actually an ant. She’s a type of wasp in the family Mutilidae, where females are wingless. These wasps (specifically the males) are called “cow killers” because of a myth that said their stings were so powerful, they could kill a cow. This isn’t true tho.
23. Crane Fly

They look like giant mosquitoes, but fear not! They won’t hurt you! In fact, one of their nicknames is “mosquito eater.” But they don’t actually eat mosquitoes. At least, the adults don’t. They don’t even have the proper mouthparts to do that. Instead, Crane Flies feed on nectar, which makes them minor pollinators. So while they can get everywhere once they spawn, they’re not actually that big of a problem. And they’re super frail, so please be gentle if you want to hold them🤎.
24. Two-Spotted Longhorn Bee

Absolutely adorable! They don’t visit very often, but when they do, they like to visit the sage in the garden. I usually find them frequently the same plants as the Leafcutter bees.
25. Giant Water Bug

One of the coolest dudes ever. You’ll always find them anywhere wet, but please know that they can get BIG. They won’t charge after you, but they will bite if they feel threatened, and it will hurt. I’ve encountered these funky guys before, and I just admire them from a good distance.
26. Promachus Robber Flies

Promachus is also just a genus of robber fly (I don’t know how many species live in my state tho). I just think they look cool. And they’re good for pest control 👍.
27. Common Checkered Skipper

Cute little babies that are slightly blue. I have one in my bug collection.
28. Long-Tailed Skipper

Another cute little baby. And also blue! These things are pretty common in the garden, and I’m always happy to see them.
Reached the image count limit. I’ll post the second part in a bit.
