sci-fi series following the remnants of humanity across generations as they try to survive on the planets they’ve terraformed

as conflict on earth increases, a scientist releases a nanovirus intended to rapidly evolve monkeys onto a planet they’ve terraformed, which instead infects a species of jumping spiders, creating a complex society

while a classicist of old earth from an ark of humans who’ve spent generations trying to find an another planet to call home, is intermittently woken up in order to translate communications between them and the spider planet they’ve been warned away from, as it is their only option

IN BOOK 2, a ship from the eventual spider-and-human society travel to a distant system that was occupied by another remnant of humanity, a crew terraforming a planet who also let loose their own experiments, creating an octopus society - but the planet was already occupied by true alien life, which caused things to go wrong...

IN BOOK 3, they travel to yet another colony of humans after detecting fragments of signals, and enter their small settlement to try and understand what’s going on

I don't want to go to bed without trying to rip a Dr.Strangeglove model from the game first even if it seems like I will be running into some complications and possibly deadends but I fear I can feel some sleepiness creeping up on me, espeically after I had to get pulled away from intensely staring at my computer and lost some of my momentum. And I also worry that getting home tomorrow from workI won't have the same amount of energy for continuing this.I mean I still have some time left before I would like to go to bed but... i am getting closer to walking a fine line....

every eye exam ive ever been to has been the most embarrassing moment of my life. i have this thing where i believe everything im doing is wrong the moment i walk in despite going to eye appointments consistently since 8 years old. what do you mean you changed the slide to just one letter whose gargantuan width fills the whole screen after i hesitantly read a single letter from a list of three huge letters on the screen. <- he means i can’t see. (i still couldn’t read the gargantuan letter)

maaaaaan. and now my pc is stuck in a bios loop. tells me it cannot find any bootable devices. checked the cables and everything seems alright?? trying to repair start up thru USB windows installation next but I have a deep dread in me that this could be worse :(

You know what, I'm going to add to this after all. Ray tracing is a gimmick and infamous for how intensive it is on hardware where it updates in real time, such as in video games. Before it was considered at all feasible outside rendering CGI, there were other methods of simulating light that were far easier for hardware to handle and, honestly, the difference between them (I can't remember what the name of the algorithm is) and ray tracing is minimal.

Adding to the problem is video card manufacturers pushing it while not increasing the VRAM on cards that are now expected to handle ray tracing, NPC scripts/AI, all other graphics, and stream encoding at the same time. GPUs have not seen a meaningful increase in VRAM in years despite the push of 4k graphics and ray tracing.

Oh and handling generating in-between frames to increase FPS/hide poor optimisation and up-scaling from 1080p to 4k or 8k. Sometimes both at the same time (in addition to the rest).

Further compounding it is consoles using stripped down versions of GPUs but not allowing users to upgrade them or other hardware. At least not in an easy way that doesn't void the warranty.

There's only so much that can be off-loaded to other components and it is a Choice™ to decide not to include an option to disable features that minimally improve the graphics (I specify graphics since more than one game has been released where turning off ray tracing wasn't the first thing recommended to turn off if you wanted to hit 30+ FPS) but can and do overwhelm GPUs.

Mandatory Ray Tracing should be banned in games. Genuinely absurd to think the majority of consumers are running high performing RTX graphics cards.
